Bigot of the Week. (Hiiyaa!)

As the Bigoted Ship of Fools sets sail to Chick-Fil-A, we see Mike Huckabee as the captain and Rick Santorum as Cruise Director.  The gaggle of chicken-peckin’ bigots form the ghastly crew eagerly swallowing hate.  Ms. Piggy is NOT PLEASED!

As though it were not bad enough that the bigot Huckabee decided to whore himself out to Chick-Fil-A after he learned that decent people were boycotting the tainted poultry, Rick Santorum felt there was not enough crazy in the seasoning and had to add his voice of hate. Ever since Dan Cathy, the king of the rancid rooster, made his recent remarks regarding the LGBTQ community, the full scope of his company’s toxic toil has come to light. Chick-Fil-A and the Cathy family have donated millions of dollars to companies that are not just anti-equality, but that are registered hate groups. Let them put their money where they will; millions of potential customers will gladly do the same!

Huckabee has called for “Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day” on August 1; Santorum got all man-on-sandwich excited and engaged in premature mastication, tweeting from one of the restaurants earlier this week. It seems likely that the appearance of this putrid poultry pair will put diners off their feed.

Three cheers to the Jim Henson Co. for ending all relations with Chick-Fil-A. Three jeers to the chain for telling staff to pretend that Muppet toys were pulled for “safety concerns.” Cheers also to Boston Mayor Tom Menino, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel, Chicago Alderman Joe Moreno, and Philadelphia Councilman James Kenney for questioning how Bigot-Fil-A “values” fit with their cities’ non-discrimination policies. Let’s chop this bigoted chain back down to its original size, the Dwarf House.

 Now “His Honor” is issuing the same “values doctrine” to a fast food restaurant that claims to be managed in “biblically based principles” that include closing on Sundays, operating debt free and devoting a percentage of their profits back to their community.

 OMG!! Sounds like trouble in the Windy City! What did this restaurant do to create such a firestorm?

 Well, it seems a gentleman by the name of Dan Cathy, the president of a highly successful franchise based restaurant chain called Chick-fil-A admitted to a reporter that he believed in the biblical definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman.

 You would have thought that Mr. Cathy had threatened to throw anyone eating in a Chick-fil-A restaurant out on their ear if they even mentioned gay marriage while in  one of their estasblishments.

 The media hounds and bottom feeders such as The Huffington Post immediately reported that Chick-fil-A executives gave millions of dollars to “gay hate groups”.

 This would include such organizations as The Winshape Foundation, a Christian based institution supporting Berry College, whose students sign a pledge to abstain from alcohol and drugs while donating free time to community service.

 The Winshape Foundation also builds foster homes for orphans and sponsors mission trips both in the U.S. and Internationally.

 Obviously this is a very diabolical and hate filled company.

 As a result of the incredibly hostile and homophobic admission by Mr. Cathy, Rahm Emanuel and his Alderman stooge Joe Moreno are promising to nix any chance Chick-fil-A might have at opening a new restaurant in Logan’s Square.

 Never mind that businesses are leaving the overtaxed, politically corrupt Chicago jungle by the busload, how about the fact that “gay marriage” the hot button in this political firestorm is still illegal in Illinois!

 Other then perhaps San Francisco, have you ever heard of a mayor attempting to halt the opening of a restaurant because the owners Christian beliefs are IN accordance with current local laws?

 Insane!

 In the meantime, the Chick-fil-A at the Loyola Water Tower continues enjoying large crowds while both employing and serving gay people and anyone else who is hungry or in need of a job.

 Unfortunately, in the dark little world of Rahm Emanuel and his hand puppet Joe Moreno, the “values” of Chick-fil-A conflicts with the values of Chicago.

 Expect about 15-20 more shootings in Chicago tonight.

 Values, Priorities; Mayor Emanuel doesn’t appear to know much about either.

As we know, if you don’t think or believe in the same things Liberals do, you’re attacked, shouted down and in the Chic-fil-A gay marriage fiasco, you may be denied building permits to operate your business. Liberals are sooo tolerant…if you share their beliefs.

A Chicago alderman wants to kill Chick-fil-A’s plans to build a restaurant in his increasingly trendy Northwest Side ward because the fast-food chain’s top executive vocally opposes gay marriage.

Ald.Proco “Joe” Moreno announced this week that he will block Chick-fil-A’s effort to build its second Chicago store, which would be in the Logan Square neighborhood, following company President Dan Cathy’s remarks last week that he was “guilty as charged” for supporting the biblical definition of marriage as between a man and woman.

“If you are discriminating against a segment of the community, I don’t want you in the 1st Ward,” Moreno told the Tribune on Tuesday.

Moreno stated his position in strong terms, referring to Cathy’s “bigoted, homophobic comments” in a proposed opinion page piece that an aide also sent to Tribune reporters. “Because of this man’s ignorance, I will now be denying Chick-fil-A’s permit to open a restaurant in the 1st Ward.”

Wonder if Moreno voted for Obama who had the same stance on gay marriage up until a few months ago?  Speaking of Obama, his 9-fingered pal, and Chicago Mayor, Rahm Emanuel also is on the attack free speech bandwagon.

Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday said he supports a Chicago alderman’s plan to block the opening of a new Chick-fil-A location in the city because the president opposes gay marriage.

Alderman Proco “Joe” Moreno told the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday he is against the fast food chain opening a store in his neighborhood and that he would deny the restaurant a permit in the 1st Ward. Emanuel told the Tribune in a statement he agreed with Moreno, noting “Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values.”

“They disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents,” Emanuel said. “This would be a bad investment, since it would be empty.”

I don’t recall Rahm bashing Obama for having the same stance. Emanuel won’t accept the free speech of Chic-fil-A but he does accept it from racist, anti-Semitic Louis Farrahkhan.  Boston’s Mayor is also on the “let’s violate free speech’ bandwagon:

“Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion,” Menino told the Herald yesterday.

“That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.”

Meino won’t welcome Chic-fil-A, but had no problems welcoming the filth that is Occupy. Their free speech about anarchy and wanting free stuff at the expense of taxpayers is duly just.

So liberals want everyone to bow down and changed their beliefs or face the penalty of having your free speech punished. They want to deny building permits to a private business due to the owner’s stance on gay marriage, not due to discrimination against gays.Chic-fil-A’s CEO holds the same belief  their liberal prince, Obama, held up until a few months ago. Talk about hypocrisy. That’s a violation of the 1st Amendment.

To all the hypocritical liberal politicians and foaming mouth gay advocates: Don’t eat at Chic-fil-A. It’s really that simply. I’m sure all the individuals who support traditional family values and marriage will happily eat at Chic-fil-A.

I’m sure Rahm and the alderman will gladly welcome Chic-fil-A once they receive a little bribe money in the form of campaign donations. It’s the Chicago-way after all.

A Chicago alderman announced this week that he plans to block Chick-fil-A’s plans to open a new restaurant in the district he represents following recent anti-gay marriage remarks made by the chain’s president.

“If you are discriminating against a segment of the community, I don’t want you in the 1st Ward,” Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno told the Chicago Tribune Tuesday of the controversial chain’s plan to open a new restaurant in the 2500 block of North Elston Avenue.

Moreno’s opposition to College Park, GeorgiaD-based chicken chain also has the support of Mayor Rahm Emanuel who told the Tribune in a statement that “Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values. They disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents. This would be a bad investment, since it would be empty.”

Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy’s recent interview with the Baptist Press has put the chain’s long-held opposition to marriage equality back in the spotlight. When asked to explain his franchise’s “support of the traditional family,” Cathy said he was “guilty as charged” and that his position “might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”

The remarks caused the Jim Henson Company, the company behind “The Muppets” and “Fraggle Rock,” to sever its ties with Chick-fil-A. The controversy also prompted Boston Mayor Thomas Menino to vow to block the franchise from opening any restaurants in his city.

The franchise’s expansion into the Chicago market last year, via the opening of a new downtown restaurant at 30 E. Chicago Ave., was met by opposition by LGBT activists. Marriage equality advocates protested at the location of the new restaurant and distributed “coupons” detailing the company’s history of “homo/transphobia … topped with workplace inequality” to passersby. The coupons were titled “Reserve your FREE Bigot-fil-A Deluxe.”

While a number of aldermen and Mayor Rahm Emanuel were discussing the possibility of decriminalizing marijuana Wednesday, First Ward alderman Joe Moreno went a step further, becoming one of the few Chicago city officials to openly argue that the real solution is legalization.

“Legalize it, control it, and tax it,” Moreno says. “Regulate it as a controlled substance. How many people do you know who have overdosed on marijuana? It doesn’t happen. The effects of alcohol are much worse.”

Moreno’s comments came during a City Council meeting buzzing with so much talk about marijuana policy that it was possible to get a pot-debate contact high just from walking through council chambers.

Earlier, 25th Ward alderman Danny Solis introduced a proposed ordinance that would make possession of 10 grams of pot or less punishable with a $200 fine and 10 days of community service, though police could still arrest offenders.

The ordinance cites data Ben Joravsky and I reported on the racial disparities and costs of current policies: blacks account for 78 percent of those arrested, 89 percent of those convicted, and 92 percent of those jailed for pot possession in Chicago. And even though about 90 percent of these cases are tossed out of court, they cost us 84,000 police hours and $78 million a year.

Moreno signed on as a supporter of Solis’s proposal. Though he doesn’t think it’s the ultimate answer, Moreno says it’s a way to start the conversation about reform. “I think we’re being very pragmatic,” he says.

Moreno joins his council colleague Walter Burnett Jr., alderman of the 27th Ward, in arguing that legalization should at least be part of the discussion. Solis says he doesn’t disagree.

“I think I’m being realistic—I think this will add to the debate on legalizing marijuana,” Solis says. “But I’m not ready to take a position on that now myself.”

Solis was also pushing the measure as a means of raising revenues for the city. As an argument in favor of his proposal, Solis circulated data showing how Chicago’s 200,000 low-level pot arrests since 2001 broke down by ward. While 529 arrests were made during that time in the 43rd Ward, centered in Lincoln Park, there were 12,270 in the 28th Ward, in Garfield Park and Austin. (You can see all the figures here.)

In other words, if the law changes how busts are processed but not where they’re made, the new revenue stream will flow primarily out of black neighborhoods.

That concerns 21st Ward alderman Howard Brookins Jr., the chairman of the black caucus. But Brookins says pot tickets would still be an improvement over the current policy. “I can’t believe how many people are getting arrested,” he says.

The proposal could get a hearing as soon as late November or early December.

Not even Mayor Rahm Emanuel could stay away from marijuana Wednesday. Reporters asked him about it during his post-meeting press conference.

“I’m banning it for all reporters,” the mayor said. He appeared to be joking. The reporters in the room laughed.

But he didn’t appear to be joking when he said he had been thinking about pot for several weeks.

(Chicago, IL) – March 21, 2012. Races for Chicago Democratic Ward Committeemen witnessed two incumbent upsets out of ten contested seats where incumbents were running and saw four new faces enter the committeemen ranks.

There were four open seats up for grabs and 36 uncontested seats.

The biggest upset was in the closet race located in the 29^th ward. Alderman Deborah Graham won with 51.46% (3,021) of the vote, narrowly defeating U.S. Rep. Danny Davis who took 48.53% (2,848) of the vote.

A Democratic Ward Committeeman also flipped in the 1^st ward in a three-way contest. Alderman Joe Moreno won a decisive victory over the incumbent committeeman Jesse Ruben.

With 3,292 ballots cast, Moreno won with 56.87% (1,872) of the vote over seat-holder Ruben who came in with only 16.25% (535) of the vote.  Anne Shaw, also a challenger, received 26.88% (885) of the vote.

In the other nine contested races, the incumbent won.

A key City Council committee Monday signed off on a $3.6 million settlement in a lawsuit filed by a man who spent nearly 10 years in prison for an attack on a woman who later said she made a mistake when she identified him as her assailant.

Robert Wilson had sought $9.9 million, a figure reflecting the nine years and nine months he spent behind bars on an attempted murder conviction before he was released in 2006, said Leslie Darling, an attorney for the city. Wilson, who alleged that his confession to the crime was coerced, was pardoned in 2008 by Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

“I think he deserves $10 million,” said Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno, 1st. “In this case, I think approving the $3.6 million is a cost-saving measure and quite prudent.”

If the deals are approved, Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration will have settled nine cases involving alleged police misconduct for a total of $9.4 million since September. All the alleged misconduct — ranging from improper response to medical needs to railroading innocent defendants — occurred during the 22-year tenure of former Mayor Richard Daley.

Of course the 800 pound gorilla in the room is Jon Burge.  The fallout from this corrupt cop’s actions have only begun to spill.  And lest we forget who was the Cook County State’s Attorney while Burge was running roughshod over the South Side?  Ya, none other than Da Mare himself, Richard Daley.

Our children’s children will pay for the corruption of the Daley years.  And yet history will probably be kind to him.  It’s a very sad state of affairs.

It’s primary season and the race is on. That’s according to an e-letter sent today by The People for Emanuel “Chris” Welch. The committee’s been fundraising for Proviso District 209 School Board President Chris Welch’s bid for the state’s 7th District House seat.

The e-letter states that the March 20 Democratic primary for state rep is going to be a “costly race.” But it also notes that Welch’s recent fundraising prowess “outpaces” his competitors who are also vying for the 7th District seat Karen Yarbrough is vacating to run for Cook County Recorder of Deeds.

Citing records filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections for the quarterly fundraising period between July 1 and Sept. 30, the letter states that Welch raised $48,477. It also notes that, at the beginning of that period, he had $9,748 on hand. So, at the end of the filing period he had $58,225, according to the state board of elections.
The fundraising reports state that Welch got significant financial support from the heads of several Proviso Township towns, including Forest Park, something that is also noted in the e-letter.

For instance, Mayor Anthony Calderone gave Welch $500 of his own money.

“The only thing I will say is I’m definitely going to support Chris Welch in his efforts to be our next state representative,” said Calderone, when asked about his support. Calderone is a political rival of Forest Park Commissioner Rory Hoskins, who is also running for the seat.

Welch also received money from other powerful mayors like Cicero’s Larry Dominick, Melrose Park’s Ron Serpico, Broadview’s Sherman Jones, as well as Hillside Village President Joseph Tamburino.

Dominick’s campaign committee transferred $1,000 into Welch’s account, Serpico’s contributed $1,000, Jones donated $500 and Tamburino gave him $250.

The Town of Cicero is currently under federal investigation for personnel practices that might have led to racial and sex discrimination, among other things, in its hiring. What’s more, Dominick is personally facing two separate sexual harassment lawsuits.

Other political bigwigs have also given to Welch, either individually, or through their committees. That list includes former Cook County Commissioner Joe Moreno ($500), 16th District Cook County Commissioner and McCook Mayor Jeffrey Tobolski ($250) and 13th District State Sen. Kwame Raoul ($1,000).

Proviso District 209 officials and employees, current and former, are also part of the list of donors. D209 board member Kevin McDermott, who was part of a 2009 lawsuit against Welch, but later dropped out, gave him $250. Milton Patch, former Proviso East principal and current D209 athletics and activities coordinator, gave Welch $200.

Tony Valente, who took over as Proviso East principal this school year, donated $500 to the committee. TM Kennedy & Associates, a public relations corporation owned by D209 spokeswoman TaQuoya Kennedy, also gave Welch $250.

Meanwhile, Welch’s brother, Billy Welch, a custodian at the district’s schools, contributed $1,000.

The e-letter also boasts that Welch’s committee has significantly more money than his competitors.

One of those competitors is Hoskins. The e-letter states Hoskins’ committee, Citizens for Hoskins, is a “distant second in fundraising behind Welch.”

At the end of the same filing period, Hoskins had $7,765. Most of his contributions have come from members of the public, and those folks have given in much smaller amounts. The only contributions Hoskins has received from elected officials are a pair of $150 donations from Cook County Judge Raymond Mitchell and Cathy McDermott, Forest Park Park District board member.

Marty Tellalian, a former village commissioner who ran unsuccessfully for mayor earlier this year, also gave Hoskins $750. Tellalian and Hoskins are friends and ran alongside each other in this year’s local election.

“I’m going to people who know me and making a case to people,” Hoskins said. “The race is more about ideas and a track record than it is about checks from special interests.”

Hoskins would not discuss any campaign ideas or talking points during the brief conversation with the Forest Park Review.

“As we move forward, I’d be happy to share more information with you,” he said.

Welch was willing to discuss some issues, however. He said residents have told him that they want the next state representative to have strong relationships with local politicians and elected officials down in Springfield – attributes Welch said he has.

“I am the most experienced of the candidates. I am the most tested. And, I am a homegrown candidate. I have lived in the 7th District my entire life,” Welch said.

Welch also said that in the 7th District, like many other places, people want more jobs and safer communities.

Another thing he said he would focus on is supporting legislation that would change how public schools are funded, so there isn’t such a heavy reliance on property taxes, and poorer districts aren’t at a disadvantage. Instead, Welch said, the Illinois State Board of Education should be allowed to use a formula that combines revenue from sales tax and income tax to give to public schools.

Welch has three fundraisers scheduled for the month of November, one of which is at the Maywood Racetrack, his committee’s e-letter says.

“My message is being heard, as is evidenced by the fundraising efforts,” Welch said. “And that support continues.”

I know I have. This, however, made me hit the breaking point:

This isn’t our car, but one of these orange slips of papers was on our windshield this morning. Our wounds still fresh from a parking ticket Joe got last weekend while ordering chicken wings, we burst into a fury upon first glance of our windshield.

Upon further inspection, we realized this was actually a flyer about voting Alderman Moreno out of office next Tuesday. It just happened to be designed too similarly to a parking ticket.

Insult to injury: February is spelled incorrectly.

Well, I suppose this advertisement worked—it got our attention, albeit in a negative way.

It seems karma is coming back to me for writing all of those “official” looking direct mail letters back in the day.
