A la vista de su página web oficial cualquiera pensaría, y con razón, que no hay nada fuera de lo normal en Aerosmith, no como las visiones de fantasmas que dice haber experimentado otro veterano de mil conciertos como es Sting: felicitación de la banda con motivo del Día de Acción de Gracias, venta de camisetas, sudaderas y demás, fotografías del grupo, promoción del libro escrito por el batería Joey Kramer, calendario del tour del proyecto en solitario del guitarrista Joe Perry…

Quizás llame la atención al internauta el hecho de no encontrar muchas cosas relacionadas con la banda al completo, pero aparte de eso, todo correcto. Aún así decidimos repasar las noticias del grupo, no vaya a ser que haya algo oculto por ahí y debamos descubrirlo: El vocalista Steven Tyler y Michael J. Fox unen sus fuerzas en la lucha contra el Parkinson, nuevas fechas en la gira de Joe Perry, entrevista a Joey Kramer… nada, lo mismo de antes. Entonces qué ocurre, ¿a qué viene este mosqueo?

Pues sucede que precisamente eso es lo malo, que no aparezca nada raro. Las alarmas saltaron durante el verano cuando se canceló la última gira de los estadounidenses. La versión oficial aseguró que el motivo fue un accidente del señor Tyler, pero hubo quien insinuó que la verdad era otra. Los rumores no cesaron hasta que la notica se confirmó a comienzos de noviembre. A lo largo del mes  los medios no han parado de lanzar informaciones acerca del futuro de Aerosmith, mi correo electrónico ha recibido noticias relacionadas con ellos casi a diario, y su página web guarda silencio. Qué curioso, ¿no os parece? Pero lo mejor será que repitamos uno por uno esos correos, los capítulos de la historia que llevada a la televisión sería culebrón, así  tal vez juntos alcancemos alguna conclusión con sentido.

Primer correo, 7 de noviembre: Steven Tyler ha declarado en un medio británico que abandona la banda y en adelante continuará en solitario. Mientras tanto, el guitarrista Brad Whitford afirma que no sabe qué será de Aerosmith sin su compañero. Deja la puerta abierta a la continuación con un nuevo cantante, pero todavía no hay nada seguro.

Segundo correo, 11 de noviembre: Joe Perry confirma la marcha de la otra mitad de los “Gemelos tóxicos”, aunque desconoce si ésta será temporal o definitiva. Explica cómo Tyler no comunicó a ningún miembro de la banda sus planes y que, tal y como señaló Whitford, tampoco saben cómo seguirán adelante sin él.

Tercer correo, 12 de noviembre: el cantante se presentó por sorpresa en el camerino de Joe Perry durante el concierto que The Joe Perry Project ofreció en el Irving Plaza de Nueva York, y terminaron interpretando juntos en el escenario Walk This Way. No contento con eso, desmintió sus propias declaraciones y aseguró que  no dejaría Aerosmith.

Cuarto correo, 13 de noviembre: Pese a lo acontecido en Nueva York, Perry declara en Billboard que el grupo continuará tocando con o sin Tyler, podría pasar cualquier cosa. Aún no saben exactamente qué harán, de manera que esperan a que su compañero mueva ficha.

Quinto correo, 16 de noviembre: Tyler quiere tomarse dos años lejos de Aerosmith, pero la banda no piensa dejar de tocar durante ese tiempo según proclama Joe Perry.

Sexto correo, 21 de noviembre:  La banda insiste en que si es necesario reemplazará a Tyler. Brad Whitford va más allá y no sólo asegura que el vocalista tiene malos hábitos en la actualidad, sino que habla entre líneas acerca de consumo de droga.

I’m starting to think they should just call it a day while they still have some credibility left.

An important race relations moment occurred in 1986. It was a newly-recorded version of a song called “Walk This Way,” written by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, originally recorded by Aerosmith (1975; Toys In the Attic), but in 1986 released as a record from Aerosmith and Run-DMC. The song appeared on Run-DMC’s multi-platinum album, Raising Hell.

It’s easy to see some segment of the racial divide being brought together through this song and its subsequent music video (below), but let’s consider how disproportionately-slanted the mainstream music market of 1986 was towards the white population, and who needed who more in this pairing.

Rick Rubin, co-producer of Raising Hell and co-founder of Def Jam Records, along with Jam Master Jay, DJ of Run-DMC, conjured up and sold the idea of Run-DMC remaking the song for the Raising Hell project.

The “DMC” in Run-DMC, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, initially responded to the idea as such:

“Motherf*^ker, this is hillbilly gibberish, this is f*^king bulls*^t.” (quote from Andy Greene’s 10/15/09 Rolling Stone article on “Walk This Way”)

Prior to Rubin introducing Run-DMC to the music of Aerosmith, they didn’t know who the band was.

Rubin, trying to genuinely aid the creation of progressive art, and simultaneously bring it profitably to the masses, shared the following in the above-mentioned Rolling Stone article:

“The album needed one more element. I thought there had to be a way to present this to rock fans so people would think, ‘this really isn’t that different than the kind of music I like’.”

But who was really more in need of who? The all-white rock band, or the all-black hip hop group?

From the book Are We Not Men?: Masculine Anxiety and the Problem of African-American Identity, by Phillip Brian Harper:

“…Rolling Stone critic Mark Coleman suggested that, rather than benefiting from the ‘innovative’ quality of Aerosmith’s 1970s composition, Run-DMC’s cut actually modernized the rock band, ‘dragging guest stars Steven Tyler and Joe Perry into the Eighties, kicking and screaming’….Barry Walters (1986) has made a useful point by way of explicating Rick Rubin’s claim that his black classmates were more musically ‘progressive’ than their white counterparts: ‘The music industry treats white music as an ongoing history, and black music as just the latest thing. Many record companies will keep in print the entire catalog of white acts that don’t sell big numbers and delete product by all but the biggest-selling black acts…In other words, black kids are “progressive” because they’ve got no choice. (p. 23)’.”

Was the teaming of Run DMC and Aerosmith in the mid-80s “progressive”? There’s little question that it was. But it wasn’t all roses, and is still far from it.

This combination of musical styles, forms and audiences was a big step forward to truly bringing black and white together to appreciate, respect and enjoy their diversity, while also helping all to see that the melding of the collective creativity could be enjoyable to all.

San Francisco’s Joe Perry had a stellar game, picking up 218 yards on 20 carries and scoring 4 rushing touchdowns, compensating for a subpar performance by Niners quarterback Frankie Albert, who completed only 5 of 14 passes for a paltry 38 yards.

Bills quarterback George Ratterman, on the other hand, had a solid day, with 19 completions in 26 attempts for 3 touchdowns. Al Baldwin caught 11 of those Ratterman passes for 171 yards and a couple of scores.

The 49ers are now 6-0-1. The Bills fall to 2-5.

A Steven Tyler le buscan sustituto

La legendaria banda Aerosmith se encuentra en estos momentos en una etapa de crisis, debido a que su cantante Steven Tyler se encuentra prácticamente en el limbo, tratando de poner orden a su vida, por lo que prefirió salir de la banda, aunque existen rumores de que volvió a recaer fuertemente en las drogas.

Por su parte el guitarrista Joe Perry comenzará una gira en Canadá con su banda Joe Perry Project, abriendo para los Mötley Crüe, durante enero y febrero del 2010.

Por otro lado se habla que Aerosmith está buscando un nuevo cantante para seguir vivos, pero la historia de esta banda comprueba que cuando han tocado sin sus integrantes originales de plano son un real fracaso, aunque también la mala relación que han llevado, más sus problemas con los estupefacientes, también ha provocado que su gran nivel musical  baje a la más pura mediocridad.

Así que pensar que Aerosmith sobreviva sin Steven Tyler, cuando su voz  es prácticamente el sello del grupo, es una idea que sus fans podrían considerar ridícula  y provoca cuestionamientos serios sobre el juicio de los demás integrantes de Aerosmith. 

Aerosmith sin Tyler, sería como los Rolling Stones sin Mick Jagger  o Metallica sin James Hetfield, sin embargo ya comienzan a decirse nombres de quién podría sustituirlo y aquí les damos algunas opciones.  

Tom Keifer, quien fuera el frontman de Cinderella, podría ser un sustituto con afán de revancha, porque seguramente conoce al dedillo el material de Aerosmith. Recordemos que Tom se vestía igual de Steven Tyler y hasta tomaba de la misma forma el micrófono. Sería un renacer para este talentoso cantante y compositor, pero esto es sólo un deseo de Inquisidor71, ya que las últimas noticias que se tienen de este talentoso músico es que perdió la voz, debido a unos nódulos en sus cuerdas vocales.

John Corabi fue brevemente el cantante de Mötley Crüe, en la etapa en que esta banda quiso cambiar su sonido radicalmente, pero sin buenos resultados. A pesar de todo, la calidad de este cantante es incuestionable y podría musicalmente dar el ancho en la música de Aerosmith, pero no es tan dinámico en sus movimientos;  nadie baila como Tyler.

Chris Robinson de The Black Crowes podría ser otro candidato ideal, ya que domina esa mezcla de blues-rock con maestría. Quizás tendría que dejar de lado un poco la banda que lo ha hecho famoso para probar qué se siente subirse  al escenario con esta gran banda.

Stephen Pearcy ex cantante de Ratt, modernizó con esta banda, el hard-rock  de los años 80’s. Aunque muchos los comparaban con Def Leppard, la realidad es que su mayor influencia era Aerosmith, sólo que eran más dinámicos en las guitarras. La voz agresiva de este cantante haría un efecto interesante en la música de la banda que dirige Joe Perry.

Sebastian Bach es un intérprete que a pesar de salir de Skid Row hace varios años, ha mantenido su fama con participaciones en series de televisión y en realitys, así como con participaciones en Broadway, así como en uno que otro disco solista.

Su voz ha sido considerada una de las mejores del heavy metal, pero ahí está el problema, no se identifica mucho con el rock-blues, pero seguramente se pondría a ensayar con todo para ser adorado por los fans de Aerosmith.

Josh Todd de Buckcherry es dinámico en el escenario y tiene una voz rocanrolera de primer nivel, quizás sea el que más se adapte a las necesidades de Aerosmith. Por algo los lectores de la revista Rolling Stone lo tienen ubicado como el principal candidato para sustituir a Steven Tyler.

David Johansen quien fuera el frontman de New York Dolls también es otro candidato favorito para entrar a Aerosmith, sin embargo no creo que logre el nivel por el cual se hizo famoso. Sin embargo, si conserva su dinamismo en el escenario podría salir adelante en esta hipotética empresa.

Axl Rose fue influenciado tremendamente por Aerosmith, sino chequen su versión en vivo con los Guns N’ Roses de “Mama Kin”. Y en realidad es el único que lo veo adecuado para la música de esta banda, ya que tiene una gran voz con perfectos  agudos y graves, así como un estupendo manejo escénico. Pero si fuera invitado, su ego probablemente se lo impediría.

Cormac Neeson de la banda hard-rockera The Answer también es mencionada por algunos medios como un ideal sustituto, aunque en mi particular punto de vista no podría mantener el ritmo dramático que impone Tyler en vivo.

David Coverdale, líder de Whitesnake le cambiaría la cara a Aerosmith. Si con Jimmy Page cantó como Robert Plant, por qué no podría hacerlo como Steven Tyler, además su manejo en las vocales del blues-rock y del hard-rock es de grandes ligas.

Nota: También se menciona a David Lee Roth,  a Iggy Pop  y a un tipo que participó en American Idol, llamado Adam Lambert, pero sobre este último, a pesar de su talento, quizás su homosexualidad no sea del agrado de los legendarios Aerosmith.

Le vamos a seguir otro rato con los discos viejitos pero que son de puro hard rock y metal del buenísimo, y a petición de mi cuate el Vick que anda viviendo allá en la hermana república de Adelaide, Australia, les posteo este gran disco de mis épocas de cachondaria, obra del excéntrico Alice Cooper, un gran material llamado Trash.

Por los años que se editó Trash, el rock pesado y el metal vivían tiempos gloriosos, finales de los años 80 y principios de los 90 fueron épocas para recordar, y así como la carrera de muchas bandas ascendían como la espuma -Metallica, G’NR, Faith No More, Queensrÿche, Bon Jovi, Tesla, Winger, Megadeth entre muchas otras-, los pesos pesados provenientes de la década de los 70 daban su segundo aire, y es en este rubro donde entra el buen Alice.

Este disco estuvo plagado de participaciones estelares, ya que Alice es uno de esos tipos que se caracteriza por ser el bueno, es decir, el que conoce a toda la banda y toda la banda lo conoce y quiere echar desmadre con él, así, Trash tuvo entre sus humildes colaboradores ni más ni menos que a Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, Kip Winger, Desmond Child y Michael Anthony entre muchos otros.

De este disco la inolvidable canción es Poison, un poderoso track que abre el material y que refleja lo que pasaba en ese momento con la música de Alice Cooper, tan cambiante y poderosa como su propio autor. Y es que la intención de Trash fue el regresar a Alice a las grandes ligas del rock and roll, venga, había mucho pastel y obvio, el polémico Cooper no quería dejar los 80 sin su rebanadota.

Además viene otras grandes canciones clásicas del repertorio “cooperiano” de los siguientes años, como Bed Of Nails, Only My Heart Talkin’ y House Of Fire. En general es un gran disco con una carga sexual inminente, recuerden que en esos años la mezcla entre sexo y música vendía grandes cantidades de discos… esperen, eso pasa aún , sólo que en vez de rock es reguetón, jo.

Honestamente, y no es por sentirme bien true, pero si andas en la onda del metal, debes conocer la obra de Alice Cooper, el tipo sentó bases importantes, junto a otros grandes como Deep Purple, Kiss o Led Zeppelin, para que el heavy metal sea lo que es ahora.

Así que sin más consíguete este disco de acá, y la neta si lo vez por ahí en el RockShop o cualquier otra tienda especializada en rock, cómpratelo, te aseguro que vale la pena.

Săptămâna trecută (marţi 10 noiembrie) Steven Tyler a surprins fanii când a urcat pe scena de la Irving Plaza, New York, să cânte alături de Joe Perry Project. Pentru cei care nu cunosc ceea ce s-a întâmplat, nu este nimic deosebit cu asta, în afară de faptul că nu am menţionat numele Aerosmith în prima propoziţie. Problema constă în faptul că după concert, chitaristul Joe Perry a declarat presei că nu se va răzgândi privind despărţirea definitivă de Steven Tyler. Solistul intrase în culisele scenei în momentul în care trupa paralelă a chitaristului făcuse o pauză înainte să revină pe scenă pentru încă două bisuri. Povestea este că Steven Tyler l-a întrebat pe Joe Perry dacă nu vrea să cânte ceva împreună. Chitaristul s-a gândit că acest moment ar aduce un plus showului şi că nu-l poate refuza pe colegul lui, alături de care a cântat timp de 40 de ani în aceeaşi trupă. Steven Tyler a ales să se cânte Walk This Way de către Joe Perry Project la bis. Urcat la microfon, Steven Tyler a declarat publicului prezent că el nu va părăsi Aerosmith.

Ulterior, Joe Perry a simţit nevoia să clarifice situaţia presei şi a revenit zilele trecute explicând faptul că de fapt Steven Tyler nu a zis că părăseşte proiectul, ci doar că are nevoie de o pauză de vreo doi ani ca să se ocupe mai bine de celelalte proiecte personale. Cu două săptămâni în urmă, Joe Perry Tweet-uia faptul că este în căutarea unui nou solist cu care să poată lucra. După 40 de ani de activitate, Aerosmith nu vrea să anuleze cântări din cauza situaţiei instabile cu Steven Tyler.

Se ştie că s-a ţinut o şedinţă de trupă recent între Joe Perry şi ceilalţi muzicieni de la Aerosmith (al doilea chitarist Brad Whitford, basistul Tom Hamilton şi toboşarul Joey Kramer), unde nu s-a putut decide formaţia în unanimitate dacă să aştepte ca Steven Tyler să iasă din pasa proastă în care se află sau să se caute un nou solist cu care să ducă treaba mai departe. (Ştiţi că formula aceasta este împreună de peste 38 de ani?)!

…

Există o grămadă de bârfe pe net despre starea de sănătate şubredă a solistului. Unele bârfe pornesc chiar de la Steven Tyler, când mai intră pe Tweeter.

Joe Perry îşi duce traiul mai departe pe drumuri, în turneu cu Joe Perry Project prin State până la finalul lunii … şi după o pauză, de Sărbători, va continua cu alt traseu de cântări în a doua jumătate a lunii ianuarie.

Corrían rumores de que Steven Tyler, el artista que durante tantos años dio voz al grupo Aerosmith, había abandonado la formación sin dar más explicaciones, según declaró el guitarrista Joe Perry en una entrevista publicada por el diario Las Vegas Sun. Otros medios internacionales dijeron que la decisión llega después de haber sufrido una caída durante un concierto lesionándose el hombro

Me niego a pensar que una caída iba a ser el motivo de su huída del grupo. De hecho, Perry lo dejaba intuir al explicar que ese accidente añadió tensión a las relaciones de los miembros de Aerosmith con el cantante quien, según Perry, “no ha estado dando el 100 por ciento en esto durante mucho tiempo”.

Sin embargo, ni siquiera Perry lo tenía claro ya que el cantante no les había llamado desde que finalizaron la gira para confirmar o desmentir los rumores de que abandonaba el grupo, algo que no es novedoso en la trayectoria del grupo según explicaba Perry bastante dolido.

El caso es que el grupo ya se estaba planteando sustituirle, según la revista Classic Rock. Al parecer, el grupo va a mantener unas reuniones para determinar el camino a seguir de la banda y se planteará seriamente si sustituir al cantante, pero, claro, no es fácil sustituir a alguien como Tyler.

De hecho, así lo indicaba Brad Whitford para la misma revista, “no sé cómo quedaría otro cantante, dependería mucho de a quién podríamos conseguir y a quién le gustaría hacerlo”.

Ahora sabemos la verdad.  Aerosmith no se ha quedado sin cantante. Tyler afirmó que se trataba de una maniobra publicitaria de la discográfica para sacar el disco en solitario de Joe Perry. De hecho, el grupo entero se subió al escenario en un concierto en Fillmore de Nueva York de Joe Perry y Tyler afirmó: “no voy a dejar Aerosmith”.

How I came to own this is another one of those “stories.”
You know a friend of a friend of a friend…..
Here goes.
A close friend of mine and one of the top Rock and Roll memorabilia dealers in the country, Jeff Gold of Recordmecca was contacted by an individual looking to sell an unusual item.
A hand drawned shirt made for Steven Tyler of Aerosmith back in the early 70’s.
Jeff checked out his story, the background, how he got it, etc….by the way, you won’t find anyone more interested in provenance and backup than Jeff.

Since Aerosmith memorabilia wasn’t exactly his thing, he called and offered the shirt to me.

I spoke directly with the owner and he supplied me with enough information and backup for me to feel comfortable buying this piece.

It it to the best of my knowledge the earliest clothing item belonging to Steven Tyler’s in existence.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry says estranged singer Steven Tyler’s surprise guest appearance at his Joe Perry Project concert Tuesday night (Nov. 10) in New York “really didn’t change anything in my mind” about the status of their band.

Tyler joined Perry and company for an encore rendition of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way,” telling fans before the song that “I want you to know that I’m not leaving Aerosmith.”

Now, Perry tells Billboard.com that Tyler “never said he was leaving the band” but further explains that the singer “said he wanted two years off to do his other projects,” which is where things become problematic.

“Aerosmith wants to work,” says Perry, who Tweeted earlier in the week that the band was “positively looking for a new singer to work with.” He adds, “the band’s been playing together for 40 years. It’s a really powerful rock band, and I don’t want to see it just go to waste and I don’t think any of the other guys do, either. We’re gonna work and we’re gonna do something — I’m not exactly sure what yet, but the band’s too good to let it sit around. We’re not going to wait for Steven.”

Perry says he’s had one conference call during the past week with bandmates Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer, but they have not made any firm decisions about anything — including working with another singer while Tyler is pursuing his outside endeavors. “We’re waiting for things to kind of settle down, and then we’ll figure out what we’re gonna do. Anything is possible,” the guitarist says.

Perry also says that Tyler’s appearance at Irving Plaza on Tuesday caught him completely by surprise. Tyler, he says, appeared backstage just as the Project was taking its encore break. “He was really the last person I expected,” Perry recalls, “and then I saw him. He said, ‘How ya doin’? What’s going on? What songs are you playing — anything good or what?’ I said, ‘Well, we’ve got a couple more to go…You want to come and sit in with the band?’ and he said ‘Yeah’ and…[chose] ‘Walk This Way.’”

“I was really blown away that he came to the show,” says Perry, “but he showed up and was really anxious to come and sit in and play, so I figured, what the hell? He’s been my partner for 40 years, and I figured I’d let him have some fun and…give the fans an extra treat.”

As for spreading Internet rumors about Tyler’s health, Perry says that the singer “came and went so fast I didn’t even get a chance to check him out that much…We read the Tweets and the different bits of gossip here and there, but that’s stuff you need to talk to Steven about.”

Perry says the Project, meanwhile, will be on the road throughout the month and then plan to resume touring in late January, though he expects to be speaking to the other Aerosmith members in the near future about their potential plans.

Há muito tempo que não se sabe bem ao certo o destino do Aerosmith, mas, para piorar, nessa semana soube-se que nem mesmo os próprios membros do grupo sabem ao certo o que acontecerá com a banda no próximo ano.

Desde que sofreu uma queda no palco em um show na Dacota do Sul, nos Estados Unidos, e teve alguns ferimentos, parece que o vocalista Steven Tyler tem a usado como um pretexto para não voltar para a banda. E deu certo.

Não seria exagero dizer que num período de uma semana, o Aerosmith se desfez e voltou, no mínimo, duas vezes. Mas os próprios fatos fazem isso não soar como um choque até para o fã mais otimista. O guitarrista Joe Perry já possui um trabalho paralelo, o “Joe Perry Project”, e está muito empenhado na sua turnê. Ao mesmo tempo, o baterista Joey Kramer arrumou tempo para escrever um livro em que conta sua vida no Aerosmith, nas clínicas de reabilitação, com as drogas, bebidas etc.

Mas, tão logo, na mesma semana em que Perry anunciou que a banda continuaria mesmo sem Tyler — se é que isso é possível — o vocalista, que não tinha contato com qualquer membro do grupo desde seu acidente, rapidamente reapareceu para garantir sua vaga de frontman. Isso aconteceu em um show do projeto de Joe Perry, aonde ele diz: “Eu apenas desejo que Nova Iorque saiba, eu não estou saindo do Aerosmith”. Abaixo, o vídeo mencionado.

Caso o grupo realmente continue tocando ano que vem, ao menos um show já está garantido. Em 2007, eles tinham uma apresentação marcada na Ilha de Mauí, no Havaí, e, segundo alguns fãs, a banda a cancelou por motivos financeiros: no lugar, foram tocar em Chicago e em Oahu, também no Havaí, mas para um seleto grupo de empresários do setor automobilístico. Por isso, centenas de pessoas que compraram entradas abriram um processo contra a banda, que, para não ter que pagar uma indenização milionária, tocará de graça para os fãs.

Apparently Aerosmith are considering replacing Steven Tyler for their next tour as Tyler allegedly wants a two year break. Now not to undermine the musical talents of Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer, they are all very capable musicians, however Tyler is quintessential to the success of Aerosmith. It is out of Tyler’s colossal mouth the sound of Aerosmith comes howling. It is the shriek of Tyler’s voice and the swagger of his hips that ensures the continued existence of Aerosmith. Any other vocalist, no matter how gifted, performing “Dude Look Like a Lady” or the classics “Walk This Way” and “Janies Got A Gun” would be appalling.
