Candace Mills went to Goodbye Blue Monday to hear Legs McNeil talk with Mickey Leigh (Joey Ramone’s brother) about their new book, I Slept With Joey Ramone: A Family Memoir. Candace told Legs she liked his book on porn, The Other Hollywood: The Uncensored Oral History of the Porn Film Industry, and the question turned into a short conversation about sex with dogs, and McNeil’s penis.

Legs McNeil: Yeah. You.

Hi. I wanted to start by saying that I loved your porn book. Could not put it down.

Legs: Oh yeah?

Yeah.

Legs: What did you like most about the book?

Well, I liked the part about Linda Lovelace fucking a dog.

Legs: You did?

I did.

Legs: So, you like fucking dogs? What kind? Irish Wolfhounds? Labs?

Guess if I had to choose, I’d choose an Irish Wolfhound.

Legs: We should talk later.

Sure. I do have a question.

Legs: 15 inches.

Mickey Leigh: Folded over.

Wow. Impressive. Well, I was really going to ask what large hurdles did you two have to jump in getting this book out.

If you are prodding, looking, searching and asking around for a really great and cool Christmas albu

If you are prodding, looking, searching and asking around for a really great and cool Christmas album to buy, your search is over. Joey Ramone Christmas Spirit… In My House is a true Punk Rock gem. The late and legendary Joey Ramone has always captivated me with his trademark Punk Rock vocals. He had such an easy going delivery with his voice, yet it also contained the required toughness, swagger and Punk attitude that came out so naturally for Joey. Don’t Worry About Me, Spirit In My House and What A Wonderful World are three Punk Rock classics from Joey Ramone’s solo work. What A Wonderful World is covered here with remarkable, inspired spirit that flows over you like a wave of Punk Rock joy. These three songs can be enjoyed all year long, heck, this EP is so good I will listen to these Christmas songs all year long too! After I here Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), I feel like I never want to hear another vocalist sing this song again, Joey Ramone sings it that incredible, for me.

Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight) is Joey Ramone singing a ballad while not straying away from his trademark vocals, I get a real kick out of this song with it’s 1950’s Rock and Roll vibe happening. This song isn’t sappy either. Spirit In My House is the hardest song on this EP, the grooves are strong and the beat is contagious. Ronnie Spector lends her vocals on Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), while the ever legendary Marky Ramone is a special guest on What A Wonderful World. I am going to listen to this EP probably constantly throughout this holiday season, I am looking forward to each listen. I absolutely cannot exhaust myself from hearing these songs limitless times. All fans of the Ramones and Punk Rock need to own this EP. Fans of all other Rock genres need to lend an ear to what Joey Ramone created here and add this brilliant work to their Christmas music collection and enjoy it all year long too.

Based on the excited reaction my ten year old twin daughters showed, as they listened to this Joey Ramone EP today, it is safe to say his Punk/Rock and Roll legacy will live on for generations to come. I have never seen my daughters dance around and get as happy to music, like this, since they listened to Misfits Project 1950! It was a terrific sight to see, coupled with the feeling of knowing my daughters love some of the music I listen to as well.

* Christmas Spirit… In My House was released on December 10, 2002, on the label Sanctuary (USA).

* Don’t Worry About Me, Spirit In My House and What A Wonderful World are also on the Joey Ramone studio album – Don’t Worry About Me, (released on February 19, 2002).

* What A Wonderful World - was written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss. The first recording was sung by the timeless legend – Louis Armstrong, being released in 1968 as a single.

one of Mr. Rock's many infamous photographs...

I love photography. When I try to scan my head for the images by one photographer that ring most deeply within me — many artists names come to mind. But, I think the one photographer who most grabbed my imagination is Mick Rock.

I mean, aside from the real artistry one can see in his “simple” images — he managed to be in the right place at the right time so often. A sort of alchemy. He even manged to create a cool image for Carly Simon! …Not that she isn’t cool, but you know what I mean. The cover to “Come Upstairs” does not match the music one will hear on that disc. Yet, his images of David Bowie, Queen, Blondie and Iggy — all of those images capture the look of the sound that those artists put forward.

If you’re wondering I was looking at my copy of two of books of collected photographs this morning. I felt a yearning to post something about his work.

Time to clean up the house, tidy the garage, finish some yard work and maybe wash and vacuum the car. Watch some College and/or NFL Football this weekend too. What are some music listening suggestions I may have for the weekend? Thank you for asking. Heavy Metal and/or all the other Metal Music genres that exist is first and foremost. Oh, may I also suggest some Punk Rock as well? Thank you for allowing me to do so. What was that? Did someone just ask me to name specifically which bands and/or albums to delve into this weekend? Gee, I feel rather honored to be suggesting to the entire world , a tidy list of great heavy bands and/or albums to choose from… uh, here it is:

The first Heavy Metal suggestion to maximize your listening enjoyment is -

LONG LIVE BLACKIE LAWLESS

Here is a Hard Rock favorite of mine, Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow. Man On The Silver Mountain is an unreal great song, it never fails to give me the psyched out chills each time I listen to it. Released back in 1975, Ronnie James Dio on lead vocals makes this album a standout for Rainbow… with Ritchie Blackmore on guitar you cannot go wrong here.

Alright, since I feel like it, I will suggest an Old School Punk Rock Band and just one current Punk Rock Band. However, that is it. Then I’m done. Either take it or be uncool and don’t.

Ramones. Enough said about that. Man, if you do not own any Ramones by now… BUY SOME RAMONES THIS WEEKEND!!! Any greatest hits will suffice for the beginner Ramones fan – heck, I have a greatest hits from them… this one:

Now, I cannot get enough of this new album from The Casualties. we are all we have was released on August 25, 2009. The Casualties know their Punk roots and it comes out loud and Punk clear through their Punk songs. Yeah it does. Give ‘em a listen this weekend.

O.k., here is one more Heavy Metal suggestion for your listening enjoyment, guaranteed to Rock your weekend! If this album doesn’t do it for you… go listen to some Jim Nabors, (you know, the Gomer Pyle dude who actually sang and made records).

The two cover songs of Cat Scratch Fever and Hellraiser are enormously incredible on this March Or Die album. Motorhead is the elixir of all great things about Rock and Roll.

Now, as I stated a few sentences ago… if this Motorhead album or any other suggestions on this Heavy Metal and Punk Rock list are of no interest to you and/or bother you in any sort of way, this is what you should be listening to instead -

WARNING: LISTENING TO JIM NABORS MAY CAUSE SEVERE CONSTIPATION

Biopic de los Ramones en proceso por Steven Zeitchik y Matthew Belloni, The Hollywood Reporter

Biopic de los Ramones en proceso

por Steven Zeitchik y Matthew Belloni, The Hollywood Reporter – Octubre 01, 2009

Fox Searchlight “quiere estar sedado”

Hey, Ho, Let’s Go!

Hey, Ho, Let’s Go!

Poisoned Heart: I Married Dee Dee Ramone (The Ramones Years)
Junio 2009, Vera “Ramone” King

I Slept with Joey Ramone – A Family Memoir
Diciembre 2009, Mickey Leigh

Lobotomy: Surviving the Ramones
Septiembre 2000, Dee Dee Ramone

On the Road with the Ramones (Revisited Edition)
Diciembre 2003/Septiembre 2007 Monte Melnick, Frank Meyer

Ramones: An American Band
Mayo 1993, Jim Bressman

Dr. Chud’s X-Ward is a Horror Punk Rock Band that I am listening to… just in time for Halloween season too. If Punk Rock or any genre of Punk is your flavor, this band will make your upper lip curl with horror glee. Horror Punk, with Dr. Chud’s X-Ward as an example, is just a few morbid steps removed from Metal Music itself… in my Metal opinion. If the lyrics and images of a band and their songs are creepy, plus the music is hard and heavy, then it is all relative… and I am listening with a sinister Metal grin on my face. Dr. Chud’s X-Ward’s self titled album was released in 2004 and is readily available on itunes. This is where I bought my Dr. Chud’s X-Ward songs, this album and/or CD is not the easiest to find at retail anywhere, a huge Metal kudos to itunes for making available, this cool Horror Punk Band. I purchased Dr. Chud’s X-Ward all along realizing, in horror, that it took almost a full five years to finally nail down this bands songs. Well, now Dr. Chud’s X-Ward is in my collection of Punk, Horror Punk that is.

As any fan of the Misfits knows, Dr. Chud was the drummer during the late 1990’s for this important and iconic Punk Rock Band. My adoration for the Misfits goes beyond just listening to their Punk Rock Music. I am forever searching out for music that the former members of the Misfits put out, Dr. Chud’s X-Ward is a fitting example. (Danzig is a gigantic example, of course). My favorite Dr. Chud’s X-Ward song is Heavy Metal, man this song is cool… it Rocks period. Spiderbaby is another choice track to hook your claws into. Goodbye is worth a few hundred listens or so, very melodic this Horror Punk song is. Take a look below for some cool Dr. Chud’s X-Ward facts – you just might find that this info will serve you right.

Dr. Chud’s X-Ward info for the Horror Punk brain:

* Chud stands for: “Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Drummer”

* Dr. Chud was of course, the drummer for the Misfits… on the albums American Psycho (1997), Famous Monsters (1999) and Cuts From The Crypt (2001).

* Dr. Chud has also recently played drums for/toured with Horror Punk Bands Blitzkid (2008-09) and Gorgeous Frankenstein (2008).

* Dr. Chud’s X-Ward self titled album was released in 2004.

* Dr. Chud played drums on the late Joey Ramone solo album Don’t Worry About Me, (2001).

* www.myspace.com/xward

You can hear Dr. Chud’s X-Ward songs streaming on their myspace page – it is worth a thousand horror listens. If you are a Punk Rock, Metal Music fan or just a fan of Rock and Roll, give yourself a treat this Halloween season and buy one or all of Dr. Chud’s X-Ward’s Horror Punk songs… you won’t regret it… that is my Metal guarantee.

Listen to Maria Bartiromo prove how stupid she is this morning on MSNBC.

I almost hurt myself laughing so hard. I had to rewind the TV just to hear it again. Watch the goofy little laugh she puts on after Rep. Weiner explains that you have to be 65 to be eligible for Medicare. “Come on, you have a better health plan than anyone else…” What???LOL. What is she talking about? Nice cover up Maria. Did you do the same in school with your teachers when you got bad grades or on the playground when the kids picked on you to play grab-ass again? Yeah, I’m sure it worked then but today is different.

Maria, this makes twice in a just few weeks you have gotta slammed on National TV on the same subject. Remember when you were debating Matt Taibbi, my new favorite columnist (check out his article on Goldman Sachs) from Rolling Stone. Why didn’t you just do some homework.? Read a book. Ask some questions instead of relying on the same “The U.K. health system refuses to provide one cancer drug b/c of its high cost”. How is that an answer Maria? But to use it twice? Is that all you got? Because maybe you should ask the Pharmaceutical Cos. why their drugs cost so much? Especially the ones that extend life at the end? Did nature conveniently make ingredients in those drugs tougher to produce? But that would be too tough of a story for you to report on. It might get your bosses angry at GE.

Joey Ramone is puking in his coffin b/c you have become such a mess. I’m sure Joey would do anything to take back his song about you.

Maria, you’re with the big kids now. And yes, we are smarter, brighter and some of us are even better looking than you now that you are no longer the young, thin hottie reporting from the NYSE on CNBC in 1993. Those days are over and sadly you are over. We no need you to look at. Now you just disgusting. During the last 15 years you should should have been hitting the books. Giving some respect to your fortunate situation. But you didn’t. You thought your looks were gonna continue to advance your career. Sorry Maria we can always find a younger hotter you to read the news. Ba-Bye.

On a side note…

I can’t believe the Health-care debate today. Frankly I’m just a little pissed off at just about everything in the discussion I hear and read daily. That is, the ignorance, the selfishness, the greed, and who could forget the lies. If you are not for Single Payer Health Care, including you Obama, then FU-K YOU!!! You are just a selfish human being taking up space. But that’s for another day. Today we just laugh at Maria.

.
The first decade of the century is gonna be over in 2 months; I think Grabbag is the only band that’s putting something out between now and then, so it’s safe to assume that the best punk records of the decade have been released already. I’m not putting any Stza Crack/Casualties bullshit in here either. I know that will raise some eyebrows, because this blog is based in Jacksonville. The asshole of culture

30. The Delaware Octopus(2009)-House Boat
An album made by 30 year olds for 30 year olds. Grath Madden continues his attack on working life, false hope and girls in here and it makes for the most depressing but catchy album you’ll ever hear. Check out Grath and Ace’s old band, the Steinways, if you’re into this. You can follow the different stages of depression they’ve gone through for the last 5 years with the entire discography.

29. Hanging Out(2008)- Kepi Ghoulie
Divorcing his wife and breaking up the Groovie Ghoulies may have saved Kepi Ghoulie’s career.

28. Sex, Love and Rock n Roll(2004)-Social Distortion
I’m trying not to put too many “nostalgia picks” on here, but Mike Ness can still lay it down like he could when he made Mommy’s Little Monster. Except instead of writing about youthful rebellion and drugs he writes about his mid-life crisis.

27. On the Move(2007)-The Leftovers
I would’ve ranked this higher, but Ben Weasel produced this album. Fuck that guy.

26. S/T-Tragedy
There is no new age d-beat band better than Tragedy.

25. Ain’t it Funny…-Pretty Boy Thorson and the Fallen Angels
I had my country/folk punk pick narrowed down to to the F’n A’s and Johnny Hobo, but I flipped a coin and landed on PBT. Just kidding. I don’t listen to anyone as gay as Johnny Hobo.

24. Total Entertainment(2003)-Pansy Division
East Bay queercore at its finest, Pansy Division is still corrupting America’s youth after some 20 odd years. The only reason I’m involved in punk is the hope that I’ll get them to play “He Whipped My Ass in Tennis (Then I Fucked His Ass in Bed!)” while opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd at Freebird one day.

23. Hospitals(2006)-Off With Their Heads
I usually don’t put EPs on these kinds of lists, but there is just too much awesome packed into this one.

22. Learn the Hard Way(2008)-the Copyrights
Fast, aggressive and melodic from start to finish, this is one of those albums that makes you feel like you’ve been working out for 45 minutes when it’s over.

21. Bedroom Disasters(2004)-The Reatards
Jay Reatard was basically punk rock Jesus before he sold his soul to Matador for coke money.

20. S/T(2008)-The Dopamines
The hit on this album is a love song about a dog. No further explanation necessary.

19. Versus God(2000)-Dillinger Four
Erik Funk can do things with melodies that John Lennon could only do tripping on acid. This band completely changed punk when all we had was NOFX/Rancid/Weasel ripoffs.

18. Missed the Boat(2006)-The Steinways
So many nerd and dork anthems on this album. Music’s consumed by ego and these guys have none. Something as carefree and fun as Missed the Boat is really refreshing in an industry this full of shit.

17. Goodbye Cool World (2006)-Bomb the Music Industry
I’d call it the ska album of the decade, but Jeff Rosentock branches out too much for this to be a ska album. It’s the punk rock, not-gay White Album.

16. S/T(2003)-Limp Wrist
Definitely my favorite hardcore album of the last 10 years. If you don’t like this album, you are a closet homosexual who’s doing anything and everything to curb suspicion. The Nile isn’t just a river in Egypt.

15. Too Much Guitar(2002)-The Reigning Sound
Greg Oblivian is one of those rare revival artists who can make every garage rock band from the 60’s sound like the Strokes.

14. What’s For Dinner?(2006)-The King Khan and BBQ Show
Same can be said for Mark Sultan. If you wanna make pop-oriented, melodic garage rock and have no idea where to start, get this.

13. Mutiny Pop(2007)-The Copyrights
Hopeless trailer park trash and punk anthem after hopeless trailer park trash and punk anthem. It’s a shame they don’t play much fo this album live anymore.

12. Dream Homes(2009)-Dear Landlord
The long awaited debut album of this punk rock supergroup lived up to the hype. Anthem after anthem for everyone who drinks too much, works too little and wonders where the fuck they went wrong in life.

11. Sultanic Verses(2007)-Mark Sultan
Did I use the John Lennon/Acid analogy already? I’m too lazy to think of another one.

10. Don’t Worry About Me(2002)-Joey Ramone
Who would’ve thought the guy who wrote all those fun, catchy pop songs in the Ramones could put out something as dark and touching as this?

9. Gorilla Marketing(2008)-The Steinways
The Steinways took the light hearted, free spirited, fun formula they had with Missed The Boat and built on it in Gorilla Marketing. Shame they broke up a few months after the release, they were really finding their niche.

8. Situationist Comedy(2002)-Dillinger Four
You notice how all those bands that sound like Dillinger Four came out after 2002? That’s not a coincidence.

7. Upstairs/Downstairs (2008)-The Ergs!
The Ergs! are probably the most musically talented punk band I’ve ever heard. They were experimenting on this album and, while it’s a great listen, it shows.

6. D.F.F.D.(2001)-The Dictators
After the Ramones did “Too Tough to Die”, all of the CBGB era bands kinda fell into mediocrity. When everyone thought that scene was finished, the Dictators reunited and put out their best album. This is probably the last landmark album this generation will ever put out.

5. Blood Visions(2006)-Jay Reatard
Jay broke up the Reatards, stopped screaming, started singing and started listening to the Adverts a lot. It was actually a pretty good idea. I haven’t found anything as original as Blood Visions released in the last 10 years.

4. Time Bomb High School(2005)-The Reigning Sound
Probably the defining garage punk album of the decade. It has the raw, lo-fi sound the original garage rock bands, the aggressiveness punk added to it, and the melody-oriented sound of the newer generation.

3. Dorkrockcorkrod(2003)-The Ergs!
This album changed pop punk. Mikey Erg could’ve put out complete shit for the rest of his life after this album and he’d still be recognized as one of the greatest songwriters to ever grace us ingrates.

2. C I V I L W A R(2008)-Dillinger Four
After bands establish their sound, many times they’ll branch out of their genre and try new things. Or, they’ll stick to what they know, hone their craft and put out albums which can likely never be replicated. D4 did the latter.

1. Guitar Romantic(2003)-The Exploding Hearts

It’s hard for me to describe the Exploding Hearts. Powerpop won’t do it. Pop Punk won’t do it. Not even flat out “punk”, as subjective as it is, can describe them. They take every quality of every melody based underground genre from before
1980 and blend it into their own sound. You could say they started a new genre, except genres usually consist of more than one band, and no one else is talented enough to touch these guys.
