She made us look. Whether it was on the VMA or AMA, our eyes were cemented on the Lady GaGa show. She’s NOT the typical pop princess that we’ve become acquainted with…no Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera but she exudes the same fervor. She’s an exhibitionist and her clothes & videos are plainly her art of expression. I could see her being the ultimate dream for extraordinary designers like John Galliano or Alexander McQueen but Lady GaGa takes full claim of her flamboyant style. GaGa has been taking risks and pushing envelops since stepping on the scene and breaking barriers with her signature uniqueness. One is never bored with her radical displays and whether it’s disturbing or just down right crazy, Lady GaGa commandeers our attention!

A l’occasion des fêtes de fins d’années les grands magasins du boulevard Haussman revisitent leur vitrines pour nous présenter des décors animés toujours plus féeriques. C’est un lieu de promenade privilégié pour de nombreuses familles.

• Les Galeries Lafayette :

Du 5 novembre jusqu’au 31 décembre prochain, les vitrines des Galeries Lafayette ont pour thème la gourmandise.  On retrouve des décors en chocolat, avec des petits gâteaux, des lapins, des oursons et autres poupées de pain d’épice. Les personnages animés portent des créations de Jean Paul Gaultier, Kenzo, Marc Jacobs,  Zadig & Voltaire, Maje, Manoush.

L’inauguration des vitrines et l’illumination des façades ont eu lieu le 5 novembre en présence de l’actrice Elsa Zylberstein et Tina Kieffer, directrice en chef de Marie-Claire, voir la vidéo ici. • Printemps :

Depuis le 12 novembre les vitrines du Printemps Haussman sont placées sous le signe de la Russie. Les décors animés aux couleurs slaves et motifs folkloriques nous plongent dans une ambiance festive. On admire les quatre poupées russes couture conçues par Karl Lagerfeld pour Chanel et John Galliano et Victoire de Castellane pour Dior.

Les deux figurines créées par Chanel ont les traits de personnages célèbres et symboliques dans l’histoire de la maison : le Duc Dimitri, le grand amour de Coco Chanel et la Princesse Nadejda une amie de la créatrice, habillée d’une robe du dernier défilé Paris-Moscou en version miniature.

John Galliano et Victoire de Castellane ont imaginé pour Dior une poupée inspirée du folklore russe avec toque en fourrure, robe traditionnelle et bottines lacées. Les doigts de la poupée étant parés d’une collection de bagues multicolores.

We absolutely love these gorgeous vintage CHANEL earrings. Designed by Karl Lagerfeld in 1983, at the very start of his tenure at Chanel, these fabulous earrings are the epitome of decadence and certainly a treasure for the vintage Chanel lover. Truly an amazingly rare and beautiful find!

‘Can I help you out with that trash?’

I heard a voice over my shoulder and, sure enough, when I looked up it was Gwyneth Paltrow on a break from up-dating her website, GOOP.

I knew very well she was being ironic. Certainly, she seemed quite tickled by the notion of it. So I left my chore and invited her into my mouse house.

After I’d washed my hands I got some fish fingers out of the fridge. They can defrost together, I thought as I welcomed her warmly.

Gwynnie is a piece of alabaster perfection and she can do long and short hair, as she showed us in Sliding Doors. I asked for some beauty tips, which she surrendered gracefully.

Nevertheless, she roundly dismissed my offer to paint her nails, with a snort through her elegant nose.

‘Do you prefer Luke or Owen Wilson?’ I asked, referring to her roles in the Wes Anderson films.

‘Oh, I couldn’t possibly choose between them,’ she replied coyly.

‘I could,’ I revealed. ‘Owen. More chamomile tea?’

We went for a walk around Ravenscourt Park so she could get some air. She seemed to relax a little but I have to admit I was quite annoyed because she was wearing sunglasses so no-one knew who she was.

She told me about how she thinks shampoo gives children cancer and how she bounces on a trampoline to sculpt the fabulous skyscraper heel legs that tell the world she’s sexy even though she’s the mother of Moses and a piece of fruit.

‘And Chris- well, he’s so talented. He takes his music very seriously,’ she opened up.

‘Do you think he takes quite a lot of stuff seriously?’ I asked, trying to widen my eyes.

‘No, not at all,’ she replied very seriously. ‘Chris has got a fantastic sense of humour. Just this morning over breakfast he was saying something really funny… Now what was that?’

I let her flail around like a weighted puppy for what seemed like an eternity before blowing the whistle and diving in with a basic bacon and egg gag, at which she laughed so hard I began to wonder if she really does find Chris a bit of a card.

I could tell right from the get-go that she wasn’t going to dish the dirt- she’s not desperate enough, having been born into fame and privilege.

So I took the liberty of switching off and playing ’shag, marry, cliff’, teaming her up with Jennifer and Angelina, seeing as they all like a bit of Brad Pitt.

It was a no-brainer she was ‘marry’- hell, I’d already managed to spend a few hours in her company without really listening. The other two were easy as well: ’shag’ Jen and ‘cliff’ Angelina (playing the rules by my original understanding of them, whereby ‘cliff’ is the person you are so crazy about you would be willing to jump off one with them).

When I came round, Gwynnie was talking about Anna Wintour and I regretted not paying attention. She said Anna started inviting her to lunches with John Galliano after her Oscar win and reckoned it was because the Queen of Vogue admired her work.

I let it slide. But it got me thinking about Shakespeare in Love.

‘Joseph Fiennes is quite intense but don’t you think his eyes are too close together?’ I asked, hungry for her professional opinion.

‘I was so blessed to work with Jo. He’s a giant of an actor,’ she replied.

‘Wow. Taller than Tim Robbins?’ I asked.

I think I got the wrong end of the stick but I knew she was relieved I didn’t allude to her acceptance speech debacle.

Instead, I praised her English accent and told her she was much better than Renee Zellweger, who sounds like she’s being goosed by the President but can’t let on.

Gwynnie found this remark distasteful. Angelina had warned me that she was a cut above but did I listen? No.

‘Have some of my Mum’s fruit cake with a thin layer of Lurpak butter on it,’ I suggested as she gathered her mobile phones to leave.

In reply to which- and oh, please God, may I never feel so wrong again- she gave me a look that still sends shivers down my spine.

‘I’m not sure I get you, Sophie,’ she said eventually, as she let two bodyguards help her on with her trainers. ‘But probing characters is my vocation so I’m going to take you to bed with me for a few nights to see what I can figure out.’

O.K, I thought.

As long as you don’t mind Jennifer Aniston joining us.

Origin Assured is an initiative that approves retailers and manufacturers coming from a country where welfare regulations or standards governing fur production are in force.

The question if wearing fur is ethical or not has been a controversy since decades between the fashion industry and organizations such as PETA.
My question is: If wearing fur is unethical wouldn’t eating meat, fish and wearing leather be as unethical as wearing fur? A poll sponsored by the Vegetarian Resource Group showed that only 2.5% of the US population can be considered vegetarian. Considering the price points for fur fashion products in department stores such as Barney’s, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue it is crystal clear that the meat and fish consumption outnumbers the purchase of fur products significantly.

I’ve got a crush, and I’ve got it bad.

John Galliano… Gall-i-ahhhh-no. Here he is, channeling his inner Fabio.

 And he’s so beautiful.

 My fashion crush began with the Rachel Zoe episode where Rach and Brad go to Paris. The John Galliano fashion show, remember it? With the snow, and the models emerging from the light tunnel created with laser lights?

 And those wicked shoes?  

 (Which he’s kinda known for).

Ok, here’s my attempt to be studious and informative: He was born in Gibraltar in 1960, his father is Spanish, but he moved to London and is considered a British designer. He’s noted for his avant garde designs which translate into street-saavy pieces to be worn by normal people too. He’s been awarded all kinds of accolades from the industry.

 He’s been criticized for his designs being too antiquated, but I love his mix of history and modernity.

In 1995, he was lead designer at Givenchy. And in ‘97, when Dior was bought by LVMH, Bernard Arnault offered Galliano the House of Dior, giving the phrase “Dior’s New Look” an entirely new meaning.

 He considers Charlize Theron as his muse. (But that’s only because he’s never met me).

 History meets absurdity, meets luxury, meets theatricality. Love love love!

Katsui graduated from Central Saint Martins College after studying at Parsons The New School for Design. Yagi graduated from Doshisha University and Central Saint Martins College.
The brand, mintdesigns was launched in 2001. They have been in Tokyo Collection since ‘03 S/S. The awards they won include the Moet et Chandon New Designer’s Award in 2005. In 2007, mintdesigns garage store opened in Shibuya PARCO. They presented their collection in the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT THIS PLAY! show. In 2008, they presented the opening show at São Paulo Fashion Week for ‘09 S/S. Both designers currently hold positions as guest professors at the Faculty of Art and Design at Osaka Seikei University. In 2009 they presented their collection at the Milano Salone TOKYO FIBER ‘09.Mint Designs turned out a dainty crop of dresses featuring details such as shimmery stripes, textured fabric and quirky graphics. One frock featured a darling print of tiny Charlie Chaplins, while another showcased circular cutouts along the sides.

My friends know how fond I am of my hairdresser, Christian Miller. He has cut my hair (and the hair of countless girlfriends) over the last 5+ years. I always tell people about my first, propitious meeting with Chris. He was recommended to me by a classy and stylish former coworker when I first moved to the city. I will admit, my hair is pretty fab now, but before moving to NY I always seemed to manage to find some way to butcher it: hair dye incidents, blunt bangs, bad cuts, bar fires – you name it, my hair has been through it. When she recommended PANYC salon, I pounced. But I almost didn’t meet Chris. When I arrived at PANYC’s old location, it was not the retro-edgy establishment is it now. It was kind of small and grungy. Chris was running late. And he had bad hair. Hair that can only be described as peroxide-bleached Dumb + Dumber hair. With roots. So I was justifiably scared. In fact, I was seriously considering fleeing the premises and thinking up a million excuses. Luckily, I survived the first cut, Chris got a new haircut, and the rest is history.

I am not the only one who thinks Chris is the bee’s knees. He happens to be Orlando Pita’s first assistant. As in: Orlando Pita, hairdressing guru, stylist of the stars, he of the coveted $800 haircut, hair magician (real magic this time), whose runway curriculum vitae reads like the first fifty pages of Vogue: Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Versace, Prada, Miu Miu, Christian Dior, Valentino (he was in The Last Emperor), Gucci, Narcisco Rodriguez, Dolce & Gabbana, Proenza Schouler, Derek Lam, and John Galliano. Drool. Where was I?

Ah yes. So Chris has given me the inside scoop on Orlando’s inspired and innovative styling products: Orlando Pita Liquids for T3. My office-mates and I have long been obsessed with his dry shampoo, but to overlook the rest of the products in this range would be a mistake. And the intriguing story behind the products is exemplary of one of those ah-ha moments that creates truly meaningful products.

Orlando, whose origins are on the runway and who has been doing shows for more than 25 years, was the first to recognize the need for products that were fast, effective, and most importantly, did not damage the models’ hair. In the typically frenzied backstage environment, there is no time to properly wash and style each model’s hair; thus, their tresses are often the victim of damaging hot tools and styling products that get the job done but leave the hair in a pathetic condition. To counteract the damaging effects (putting the “care” in “hair care.” aw.), Orlando turned into an impromptu chemist/chef, wrestling with the products at hand and often mixing them (mousse + conditioner, for example) to achieve the desired results. He then took his innovation one step further and joined forces with T3 as a platform to launch his own line of products.

The products’ functionality adeptly addresses both components of styling that Orlando originally recognized as obstacles: 1. no time to wash and 2. hot hot heat + hair = . All products can be applied to dry hair – even dirty hair thanks to the dry shampoo – so they are super efficient; and, they work with the heat from blowdryers and irons. The heat from these tools actually enhances the conditioning elements of the products so styling is achieved without a hitch and the hair is left with luxurious, nourishing vitamins and proteins that leave it in better condition.

Chris described Orlando’s dedication to the line, which is manufactured in a factory in New Jersey, as total: he has spent countless hours with the chemists making sure each product functions to his exact specifications and even customized the signature scent of the collection. The first product from the line was Plump, a volumizer that leaves hair full and polished, and Chris told me one of his favorites to use is Elevate. I couldn’t agree more — it’s the only product I have ever used on my hair that has made it totally straight without sacrificing any volume or making it look flat.

So here we are today; regular gals like ourselves can easily access the products that make hair fabulous. He truly is a man of the people – when Chris asked him for some used bottles of products to review, he gifted me with my own shiny new set of every product from the line! YAY pour moi. So far other than using the dry shampoo I am obsessed with Boost, a lightweight cuticle smoother that goes on ends and works with your blowdryer’s heat to protect them from splitting.

One more thing. I know this sounds like a full-on advertisement for this line, but other than the goodies I have not received any form of payment. jk. I just think it’s a really good and smart story (and inspiring for the inventors out there!) and hope you guys do too. Below, some of my fave of Orlando’s creations.

A obra de arte terá folhas brilhantes e orquídeas nas cores prata, branco e azul, assim como cristais, dando a impressão de estar congelada. Exposta no lobby do hotel, a árvore será revelada ao público e aos hóspedes no dia 01 de dezembro de 2009. “Estamos muito animados em trabalhar nesse interessante projeto com o lendário John Galliano. Trong tất cả các BST trình diễn trong tuần lễ Spring 2010 RTW thì BST của thương hiệu John Galliano có vẻ là nổi bật đậm chất ‘ma quái’ nhất! Nói như thế vì trước đó chính hai siêu sao Hollywood là Madona và Lady Gaga đã nhiều lần gây mất hồn vía biết bao người. Chắc hẳn bạn vẫn còn nhớ sự kiện sáng sớm ngày 5/11 tại London, Lady Gaga đã diện một bộ váy ren đen hiệu Dolce & Gabbana siêu mát mẻ đi ăn sáng bất chấp trời giá lạnh đến 4ºC. Bộ váy ấy thật sự không thể so bì được với các thiết kế của thương hiệu John Galliano về độ ‘ma quái’ đâu nhé! Vẫn là chất liệu đăng ten (lace), nhưng qua sự sáng tạo mang hơi hướm ma thuật đã biến những chiếc váy hoa (floral) cùng sơ mi tay dài cao cổ trở nên khác lạ cùng những chiếc khăn ren che mặt đầy khiêu khích. Dù là những mẫu thiết kế định hướng theo xu hướng military (quân đội), ladylike (uỷ mị thục nữ), hay cocktail … thì tất cả đều được ‘trang điểm’ với phụ kiện từ nón rộng vành đến những đôi giày với kiểu dáng cứ ‘ngồ ngộ’ sẽ là bạn vô cùng thích thú.

Khoang hãy vội kết luận là ‘đẹp’ – ‘xấu’, mà hãy tập trung thật cao độ để tận hưởng những dư vị còn xót lại của mùa Halloween đầy ấn tượng vừa qua với bộ sưu tập đầy chất ‘ma quái‘ của thương hiệu thời trang John Galliano bạn nhé!

Chose promise, chose dûe, voici les vitrines du Printemps Haussmann!

On commence par les vitrines toutes rouges  made in Chanel par Mr Karl L. et ses équipes. Elle est consacrée à la Princesse Nadejda et ses petites copines qui s’amusent comme des folles dans de bien jolies poupées russes.

Ensuite allons nous promener en Sibérie, à dos de gros chat rigolo et surtout en compagnie de Victoire de Castellane pour Christian Dior. Les petites demoiselles sont adorables dans leurs robes de couleurs et leurs escarpins à talons aiguilles…

Toujours Dior, cette fois par John Galliano et son équipe, et des petites demoiselles qui se régalent dans une cuisine toute rose. En fond sonore la musique de Casse-Noisette, et si je ne me trompe pas, il s’agit de l’air de la Plum Fairy.

Et pour terminer la vitrine du Duc Dimitri qui nous a littéralement enchantés Mr Papillon et moi!

Ces quelques photos ne sont qu’un tout petit échantillon des merveilles à admirer boulevard Haussmann, les petites poupées sont magnifiques, travaillées avec un soin et un souci du détail immenses, les animations sont magiques.

Acum ceva vreme am scris un articol intitulat Chloe , pentru ca m-a inspirat o rochie vazuta intr-un magazin. Numai ca rochia accea frumoasa a fost doar o metafora pentru viata pe care mi-o doresc, pentru cel care imi va schimba universul. Vladuts a inteles asta,  si a comparat sentimentul asta, vital pentru mine, cu Football Manager-ul lui.

Multi insa mi-au reprosat ca ma las orbita de un simplu material stralucitor, ca nu poti sa ridici o textila la rang de arta.

Si atunci va intreb: Cine e John Galliano ? Un simplu croitor?

Marc Jacobs – un gay cu o obsesie ciudata pentru kilturi?

Karl Lagerfeld – un batranel care nu zambeste?

Ei sunt oamenii care imi creeaza mie zambetul, care scriu in fiecare zi un pic de istorie pe paginile aurite ale ultimului numar din Vogue, care ma fac pe mine sa am mai multa incredere in mine, atunci cand ma ia de brat Ladybag-ul meu.

Pentru mine, sunt niste genii pentru ca munca lor de zi cu zi ma transforma in fiecare dimineata, din tipa aia care vrea sa mai doarma in cea care stie ca arata genial azi! Si pentru cei care n-au stiut nici de aceasta data sa citesca printre randuri, nu ma refer la brandul care te imbraca, pentru ca trust me, si geanta aia pe care tocmai ti-ai luat-o din Obor a plecat de la una din ideile lor, sau daca nu a fost ideea  acestor 3 designeri, a fost a altora ca ei..

Morals: inainte sa iti pierzi timpul judecand/blamand industria modei pentru “superficialitatea” ei, gandeste-te cu ce esti tu mai bun decat o industrie care functioneaza de sute de ani? Esti mai bun decat oamenii care au gandit chilotii pe care ii porti acum?
