I don’t think I have ever truly appreciated how beautiful the scenery is in Donegal. I recently paid a visit to Glenveagh castle and even though I have been there many times, it still takes my breath away. Last year over one hundred thousand people visited the castle, and I have no doubt that everyone of them would agree that it is beautiful. The castle was completed in 1873 by the Landlord John George Adair. Adair was infamous for evicting over 244 tenants from his land which was the biggest eviction in Irish history. There have been a number of famous visitors to the castle, Bing Crosby, Greta Garbot, Grace Kelly, Pulitzer, Percy French. The list goes on and on.. Not only can you take a guided tour of the castle, but there are also 34 acres of landscaped gardens and nature to explore. If you are an animal lover you also have the chance to spot a golden eagle or a red deer.So If you havn’t visited this great place before, shame on you! Next time you have a free day I suggest you make a trip. It’s a great family day out. If you have visited it- go back, as it’s the sort of place you can appreciate time and time again.
