My health is being threatened. All through our lives we deal with circumstances that threaten our we

My health is being threatened.

All through our lives we deal with circumstances that threaten our welfare. One of these is poor health. There are many variables to consider when pursuing the best possible treatments and causes.

Unfortunately, we are not always given the correct remedy, or advice from those in the medical field. Many times we are given routine prescriptions to try and ward off symptoms, but then are still left with wondering what is causing the sickness in the first place. Too often the symptoms reappear at a later date, and we go through the cycle all over again.

This is the second time in my life I am battling a parasite infection. The first time around (ten years ago ) I was to told that the extreme joint pain and fatigue I was experiencing was due to rheumetoid arthritis and to just take daily aspirin.

I decided not to accept that diagnosis and put my problem to prayer to the “Great Physician” – our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was “He” who led me to discover the cause and solution to my sickness. The cause was a parasite infection and the solution was the herbal cleanse and rebuild treatment that addressed the removal of the parasites from my body. My joint pain disappeared, and the other bonus was that my asthmatic allergies disappeared as well.

“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray……..and the prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise him up.” (James 5: 13-17)

Sandhigata vata is a concept explained in the context of Vata Vyadhi by all the authors of Ayurvedic

Sandhigata vata is a concept explained in the context of Vata Vyadhi by all the authors of Ayurvedic treatises.

What is it and how it occurs?

“Hatvaa Sandhigataan sandheen shoola aatopau karoti cha..

Vaatapoorna dhriti sparshaha shotaha sandhigate anile..

Prasaarana aacunchanayoho pravrittishcha savedana”

It is a painful manifestation of the joints of the body. It occurs when the vitiated vayu on entering and getting localised in the joints of the body, destroys them-thereby producing pain(shoola) and swelling with sounds(aatopa). The movements like extension(prasarana) and flexion(aakunchana) at the joints become difficult(kricchra) and painful. The joint in this condition looks like a bag filled up with air and is swollen up.

Samprapti or etiopathogenesis of sandhigata vata:

As any disease this too undergoes 6 stages of pathogenesis before it gets manifested in its full form. They are-

Sanchaya: The vata which gets disturbed due to the intake of incompatible food and activities which specifically disturb it, gradually gets accumulated in the Pakwashaya or the large gut which is the main site of vata.

Prakopa: The vata getting accumulated gets further vitiated in the pakwashaya itself.

Prasara: The vitiated vata now tends to spread to its other sites and also other places in the body after attaining a point of saturation

Sthana Samsraya: While traversing all through the body the vata having a tendency to occupy and getting localised in the dhatus or the weakened or susceptible tissues attacks the joints in this case. The sthana or the site for localization is already kept prepared suitable for the vata to get occupied in the form of dhatu kshaya or the weakening of the local tissues thus diminishing the local defences. The dhatus weakened are asthi(bone and the related joints) & mamsa(flesh i.e muscles and the other soft tissues around the joints). The rasa rakta or the blood circulation and nutrition of the mentioned tissues are anyhow hampered. The kapha(sleshaka) which is responsible for the integrety of the joints and easy moments of the joints gets diminished. It further undergoes kshaya or decrease when it gets into contact with the morbid vata. Thus the integrity of the joints are lost and they give way. In this stage of pathogenesis a few symptoms are manifested in a feeble or weaker form indicating the manifestation of a future disease. These symptoms are called poorvaroopas or prodromal symptoms which include symptoms like mild pain in the joints, mild stiffness and slight swelling. The same symptoms get clearly and markedly manifested in the next stage called vyakta avastha.

Vyakta: After localisation of the morbid doshas in the dhatus or tissues in the previous stage of pathogenesis, the signs and symptoms which were feeble gets clearly and markedly manifested in this stage giving rise to the disease proper. On the basis of these clearly manifested symptoms or the roopas as they are called in ayurveda…the disease is named in the stage of vyakta. Due to the manifestation of symptoms like sandhi shoola(pain), aatopa(swelling and crepitus) & krichra prasarana aacunchana(difficulty in making movements at the afflicted joints)…. this disease is named as Sandhigata vata.

Bheda: This is a stage of complications. If the disease is not managed or treated well or due to the negligence of the disease in its initial condition…like any other disease…Sandhigata Vata too will land up with complications worsening the prognosis of the disease. Complications may include permanent structural and functional destruction of the joint or joints affected, pain and stiffness, swelling getting severe and not getting well with any form of treatment, permanent loss of movements making one crippled and dependant etc.

Due to its closer proximity the Sandhigata Vata can be compared to the present explanation of Osteo-Arthritis…which is a painful, disabling and crippling form of arthritis.

The crux of the explanation of the pathogenesis in steps of the disease indicates that if diagnosed and dealt with properly in the initial condition itself…Sandhigata vata can be treated effectively. We can prevent the further damage to the joints, help in their recovery, easen the pain, vanish the swelling, improve the circulation and nutrition and circulation of the joints and make movements easy for a person if we attend to the problem very early. Like wise regular abhyangam(massage), swedana(steaming), good exercise, good food and a planned living style can help avoiding the onset of Sandhigata vata or osteo arthritis and enable one to live with healthy painless joints….

The treatments and preventive aspects of Sandhigata Vata holds good in the management of osteo arthritis also.

4get running because running will eventually damage your joints, & 20 years into the future, you may need a hip transplant. The joints are not designed to take a lot of force, therefore running is dangerous. Walking for an hour daily is the best exercise to do. 4get about the gym/working out, walking will burn the fat cells & your definition will be visible as a result. Diet is not really that important, you can live on junk food & be thin/slim providing you go for walks daily – that’s the way it works with me. You burn more fat when walking compared to running, plus it is not intense, & it helps you sleep better thanks to the fresh air. Only run in emergencies.

Janu Vasti..a treatment of ayurveda…provides a simple and still very effective relief of Pain

Janu Vasti..a treatment of ayurveda…provides a simple and still very effective relief of Pain Knee especially that which is caused due to Osteo Arthritis. It relieves pain and stiffness and easens movements at the knee joint. Meanwhile it also strengthens the joint, muscles and soft tissues around, improves circulation and enables you to resume back your work and activities.

What is Janu Vasti and how it is done?

It is a simple procedure in which a compartment of flour (black gram powder) is constructed around the painful knee joint, adhered with the same flour and kept in position. Medicated oil which is prescribed by the doctor so as to suit the condition is made luke warm and poured into the compartment. The procedure is carried out for 30 to 40 minutes. After the prescribed time of therapy both the oil and flour are removed from contact. As per the choice of the physician, the procedure shall be followed by a hot water fomentation or a Patra Pinda Sweda(Leaves of medicinal plants are tied in a cloth in the form of a bolus; heated to tolerable heat on a pan kept on the stove and applied to the painful part) is given. This gives an ashtonishing relief for those suffering from knee pain arthritis or osteo arthritis knee which has not been under control since many days or months. It is usually done in a course of 5 to 7 days as required or as prescribed. They may be repeated giving short intervals particularly in those who have repetitive joint pains so as to have a constant and sustained effect.

Where it should not be done?

*Rheumatoid Arthritis of the knee joint.

*Pain associated with fracture and dislocation.

In conditions of pain knee or osteo arthritis knee of mild to moderate severity, or frequent joint pains or in the work patterns or jobs which demand standing for long time or walking for long distances, the jonts will give way early due to constant and repetitive stress and strain. In such conditions Janu Vasti can be taken as a preventive treatment also. It helps avoid the joint related problems and keeps your joints healthy. In such conditions a course of treatment might not be required. As per the suggestion of the doctor Janu Vasti prophylactically can be taken for a couple of days at the week ends, repeating it once in every 2 to 3 months.

According to ayurveda persons who have healthy bones and skeletal system are known as “asthi sarapurusha”. These persons will have strong bones, teeth and nails. They will be very strong, active and enthusiastic.

Minerals like Calcium, phosphorous, magnesium along with protein and collagen help to build bones. Vitamin D is needed to make bones strong. Hormonal imbalances, increased intake of proteins, salt and stimulants interrupt bone building. Stress and prescription drugs also disrupt the process of bone building. Deficiency of these nutrients leads to osteoporosis, inflammation of joints (arthritis) and painful joints.
Dificiency of vitamin D leads to painful joints, stiff neck, hairloss and bone loss.

• Exposing skin to sunrays makes vitamin D available to body. Oysters, cottage cheese and eggs contain small amount of vitamin D.
• Vitamin C encourages collagen production. Hence adequate intake of citrus food helps to supplement Vitamin C .
• Cereals, legumes, Leafy greens and yellow, orange, and red vegetables supply good amounts of calcium.
• Dry fruits, Nuts , seeds (sunflower, black sesame and pumpkin seeds) and their oils are abundant with vitamins and minerals as well as healthy essential fatty acids such as omega-3-and-6 .
• Regular exercise helps to build strong bones and reduce calcium loss. It makes joints stronger and healthy.
• Stress reducing techniques like yoga and meditation help to reduce calcium depletion.
• Avoid excess intake of coffee, tea, cola etc.
• Try to maintain normal weight and avoid getting overweight

Dhatwagni and bhutagni (vayu, agneya and prithvi) bring about hardness and heaviness to these nutrients which form asthi or bone.

Functions of asthi according to ayurveda: In nature we observe that trees are supported by strong solid stems. Same way human body is supported by strong bones. All muscles (mamsa), tendons and ligaments are attached to asthis (bones). Asthi supports these structures and gives shape to our body.

Asthi Vriddhi Laxana: When asthi dhatu increases more than normal , it leads to formation of adhyasthi (hypertrophy of bone) and adhidanta (formation of extra teeth).

Comment in: * Ann Rheum Dis. 2008 Jan;67(1):1-4.

http://ard.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/67/1/26

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is associated with a form of spondyloarthropathy in 10-30% of cases. A major feature of psoriatic arthritis is enthesitis. In some patients with psoriasis the presence of enthesitis could be underdiagnosed.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the presence of lower limbs entheseal abnormalities in patients with chronic plaque psoriasis without signs and symptoms of psoriatic arthritis. METHODS: Thirty patients with psoriasis and 30 controls underwent ultrasonographic evaluation of Achilles, quadriceps, patellar entheses and plantar aponeurosis. Ultrasonographic findings were scored according to the Glasgow Ultrasound Enthesitis Scoring System (GUESS).

RESULTS: Mean GUESS score was significantly higher in patients with psoriasis as compared with controls: 7.9 (0.6) vs 2.9 (0.3); p<0.0001. In particular, the thickness of all tendons examined was significant higher in cases than in controls (p<0.0001), as well as the number of enthesophytes in all sites examined. In both cases and controls, the GUESS score was directly correlated with age (r = 0.22; p = 0.008), body mass index (r = 0.23, p = 0.0067) and waist circumference (r = 0.17; p = 0.02). In contrast, the GUESS score was not correlated with the duration and severity of psoriasis according to the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (r = 0.03; p = 0.8) and body surface area involvement (r = 0.07; p = 0.6).

CONCLUSIONS: Entheseal abnormalities can be documented by ultrasonography in clinically asymptomatic patients with psoriasis. These findings could be related to a subclinical entheseal psoriatic inflammation. We suggest close follow-up of patients with psoriasis with entheseal abnormalities for early diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis.

HORSETAIL
Equisetum arvense
Horsetail is said to be one of the oldest recorded plants on earth, discovered approximately 600 million years ago. It is rich in the trace element silica which aids in the absorption of calcium, and is a basic element in the growth and repair of bone and tissue (strengthening bones, hair, nails and teeth). Herbalists claim it is useful in the repair and regeneration of the damaged connective tissue disorders. Another long standing use of horsetail has been as mild treatment in the prevention and treatment of kidney stone formation, bacterial and inflammatory disorders of the lower urinary tract, and as a diuretic. Horsetail has been a traditional treatment for allergies, pulmonary tuberculosis, cystitis, kidney stones, water retention, fevers, eye diseases, gout and rheumatism.

IRISH MOSS
Chondrus crispus
Harvested from the water off the European coast, Irish moss is actually a seaweed. Rich in proteins, iodine and other substances, many herbalists also considers it is excellent “nutritive tonic”, and traditionally it has been prescribed for ulcers, dysentery (infectious diarrhea) and the other gastrointestinal disorders. Contemporary herbalists consider it a valuable soothing agent (demulcent) for dry coughs, bronchitis, tuberculosis and other upper respiratory tract ailments. It is also thought to help in the treatment and alleviation of peptic and duodenal ulcers. Considered to have anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, blood-pressure lowering, and other potentially beneficial properties, Irish moss is also thought to have healing properties beneficial in treating ulcers and other problems relating to the digestive system.

LAVENDER
Lavandula angustifolia
In an age of extremes lavender is essentially able to produce a balancing and harmonizing effect, by having a pronounced regulating effect on the nervous system. Stress has long been known to deplete the immune system, and can be the cause, or the precipitating agent, for all types of illness and disease. With this in mind, lavender is thought to have a restorative effect in cases of a weakened nervous system and have a calming effect on those prone to be stressed or agitated. For years herbalists have used the calming effects of lavender to treat nervousness, anxiety, worry and depression. Lavender is used as a symptomatic treatment of stress-related conditions. It has been used for insomnia, headaches, and immune as well as digestive problems.

LICORICE
Glycyrrhiza glabra
Long ago, in China, licorice acquired the name of “The Great Detoxifier”. They believed that continuous consumption of licorice root would help to rid the body of poisons and could contribute to the body’s blood building efforts. It has since been used in many Chinese prescriptions treating dry coughs and lung disorders, asthma, sore throats, laryngitis, ulcers, as well as inflammation of the urinary and intestinal tracts. It is sad that licorice root increases vital energy, and that it is able to strengthen digestive and metabolic function. It is believed that licorice root “harmonizes” the ingredients in an herbal formulation and eliminates any harshness, thus promoting smooth activity of the herbs. Licorice is useful in the treatment of peptic ulcers, abdominal colic, stomach inflammation, colitis, and has been used as an expectorant in cases of bronchitis.

Trifolium pratense
Red clover is rich in isoflavones, including genistein and biochanin A (an antioxidant which protects against cells aging). Used as an antibiotic, it has been used in fighting bacterial infections and dealing with kidney and liver diseases. Over the years it has been tried with some success as a tumor and cancer remedy (for breast and prostate cancer in particular). Red clover has also been used as a treatment for skin disorders, such as eczema and psoriasis, as it claims to cleanse the blood. Herbalists also recommend red clover for reducing uncomfortable menopausal symptoms, and improving overall health, including its use as an expectorant to clear chest congestion caused by coughs, colds, asthma and bronchitis.

“A properly designed exercise program can not only decrease your pain, but also increase your flexibility and overall fitness” – The Arthritis Society

If you have arthritis then you are probably familiar with the pain, stiffness and inflammation that accompanies it. While it mostly affects the hips, knees and spine it can be found in any weight bearing joint of the body. Most people affected by arthritis “learn to live” with the pain and loss of mobility but you don’t have to be one of them. The following is a list of the most important things you can do to take control of your symptoms and alleviate the pain for good:

1) lose weight (cardio)

When we walk, run, jump etc. we are putting strain on our joints. It’s pretty simple: the more weight you’re carrying around the more strain you are putting on those joints. According to The Arthritis Society being even 10 lbs overweight can put you at increased risk of developing arthritis in your knees. Along with helping you lose weight exercise, especially cardio helps get synovial fluid (the fluid in your joints) back to the affected joints, nourishing them and allowing for better mobility. Walking and swimming are the most joint friendly cardiovascular exercises you can engage in.

2) tone up (weights/machines)

The main purpose of the ligaments and cartilage surrounding our joints is for stability. Basically they keep our bones (and organs) in place. When those structures are broken down through wear and tear our second line of defense is our muscles. By acting as a “shock absorber” muscles also help relieve some of the pressure being put on your joints decreasing the pain and inflammation in the area. Many exercises can help reduce the symptoms associated with arthritis. However, there are some exercises that should be avoided or done with caution. For this reason it is extremely important that you seek the advice of a certified fitness professional or post rehab conditioning specialist that can help you design a safe and effective strength training program.

3) loosen up (stretching)

You know what they say “save the best for last”? Well in this case it’s not just a cliché. Stretching helps maintain joint function decreasing the loss of mobility due to swelling and inflammation. If you’re not doing it, START! You’ll notice how much better your joints feel after following a simple stretching program for a few weeks.

Ageless Xtra has helped me live a pain free life! I used to have aches and pains that I just accepted as normal for growing old. (LOL! I am only 46) little did I know that when my niece and nephew introduced me to this, that it actually would go away. I was just interested in the business model of the company. I had heard many testimonies and new the scientific studies backed it up. This is a patented product that no one has except Univera and we can’t make medical claims I can only tell you what it has done for me. When you buy the product they have a 90 day money back guarantee which is also appealing. It has a propriety botanical blend of botanical ingredients developed from decades of research. It promotes vital energy, mental clarity, manages stress and promotes joint comfort and flexibility. It has the antioxidants of 10 servings of fruits and vegetables which I would never get on my own! I like the mini bottles because I am on the go and can take them everywhere I go. They are also available in a concentrate which you keep at home. I usually have a shot glass for that and take a couple shots a day. I will be talking about the company more tomorrow but for today I just want people to be healthy!

Ever wake up in the morning and find your self looking like a human ‘S’? Oh yea. Fun stu

Ever wake up in the morning and find your self looking like a human ‘S’? Oh yea. Fun stuff, huh? Well, I just wanted to remind all of you lovelies…this is NOT necessarily about some age thang. And don’t even try tellin’ me otherwise. Cuz I know better. Case is point:

When I was a younger lass, I was very athletic. In fact, I’ve always been very athletic, until about 2 years ago. That’s when the Kosmic Kween decided it was time for me to slow down. But I’ll spare ya that part. It’s not important. Prior to that experience, I’d always kept myself strong and lithe. Mostly because I couldn’t bare the idea of becoming a flabby old woman. Not to mention my very stubborn ’self-reliant’ nature. I like being able to do stuff for myself.

Anyway, somewhere around (the age of) 21 I had a major snafu coming off a diving board. Sent my back into all kinds of spasms that got steadily worse as the days wore on. After multiple trips to various MDs (who wanted nothing more than to slice me open), I ended up going to see a chiropractor. Turns out my spine was (and had been for years) not at all straight. Scoliosis was the term used. The reason I’d never had any trouble with it was because I’d always been so active and the muscles in my back were strong, thereby lending to keeping my spine from pinching those nerves. But it was around this same time that I’d taken my first ’sedentary’ job. As in, I sat at a desk rather than running around a dining room. This then lent to those strong back muscles not being so strong. Which in turn led to my spine pinching nerves. Again…I was only 21 when this started.

Now, the good news is that once I learned about all that, I made it a point to keep those back muscles strong so I wouldn’t have to experience this drop-you-to-your-knees kind of pain. And I did that for all these many years. Never had much of a problem with it after that.

I’m tellin’ ya this so you’ll stop using age as an excuse for ‘falling apart’. It just ain’t so! I don’t care how many trips around the sun you’ve made. You can keep your body strong and avoid all that crap that folks like to say ‘happens’ because you’re gettin’ old.

I call bullshit.

Manual dexterity is the ability to make coordinated hand and finger movements, but if you have arthritis of the hand, your dexterity may be compromised. Here are 5 simple tips you can follow that can help improve your condition. But, don’t wait. Those who act early will see the best results.

Exercise
Range of Motion: You can improve your flexibility, maintain joint movement and relieve stiffness with passive, range of motion exercises (allowing someone else to move your joints for you).
Weights:Try strengthening exercises using light weights to help maintain or increase your muscle strength. This will protect the joints that are affected by arthritis.
Aerobic: Aerobic exercise that works the cardiovascular system is always beneficial, not only for fitness, but to improve overall body functions.

Loosen Your Grip
Tight gripping can cause excess strain on the joints. When using a grasping tool, find one with large handles and keep a loose grip when possible. Use both hands to grasp objects, not just the fingers. Find a lightweight ergonomic pen that does not require tight gripping to use.

Try Hot Therapy
Hot therapy such as paraffin baths or hot packs can help to relieve hand pain because it increases circulation and relaxes the muscles.

Stabilize the Hand
Splinting the wrist and hand area provides rest your joints in a comfortable position. This can decrease pain and inflammation. Look to this solution when you want to provide a stable environment for completing strenuous tasks.

Take it Slow
Repetitive motion can lead to pain. Avoid starting an activity you cannot stop. Take jobs slowly and pace yourself.

Dogs are more than just pets – they are members of the family. Spending countless hours playing with them as they run, jump and nuzzle their way into your heart never ceases to put a smile on your face. You do everything you can to make sure your four-legged family members are given the best care possible, but strenuous activities, old age and obesity can often lead to canine osteoarthritis.

This chronic, degenerative joint disease is caused by deterioration and progressive inflammation of the soft tissue, bone and cartilage in your pup’s joints. Stiffness, joint pain, and mobility problems are all common symptoms. We all want our dogs to hold onto the energy and vitality they had as puppies, so it’s distressing to see them have trouble walking or whimper in pain.

A study conducted in Finland at the University of Helsinki, showed that omega-3 supplements derived from the green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) were effective in reducing chronic pain due to moderate to severe osteoarthritis. Unlike pharmaceutical treatments, there were no side-effects.

Mussel Dog™ is an effective supplement derived from New Zealand’s green lipped mussel that does not have any known side effects. This highly effective source of omega-3s has 30 essential fatty acids, so the supplement is more potent than salmon or flaxseed oil.

A pet brings love and happiness into a home, so it is never easy to see your four-legged friend in pain. Unfortunately, as dogs age their cartilage progressively wears down and the result can be very painful. Twenty percent of dogs over the age of seven will experience these debilitating symptoms which are associated with canine degenerative joint disease.

The New Zealand Veterinary Journal featured a study about the efficacy of a Perna canaliculus extract, which is more commonly known as the New Zealand green-lipped mussel, on arthritic symptoms in dogs. Eighty-one dogs with mild-to-moderate degenerative joint disease were examined in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

The perna canaliculus supplement had a beneficial effect on the pain and other symptoms dogs exhibited that were presumptively diagnosed with mild-to-moderate degenerative joint disease. Although long-term treatment maybe required before progress in the disease is noticeable, the beneficial effects of the supplement were apparent.

Most pet caregivers take the responsibility of caring for a pet seriously. After all, they offer puppy kisses, loving greetings when their owners come home, and endless hours of entertainment. Products like Mussel Dog™, which is an extract of the New Zealand green-lipped mussel, is just one way you can help ensure your dog is getting the nutrition he needs.

Another benefit of massage is the simple contact with another human being. Some seniors rarely see other people. For others, the hurried hugs of busy grandchildren, caregivers, or doctors, rarely fills the need for the healing power of human touch. Sometimes even that touching hurts. The doctor investigates the most recent area of pain. The grandchild who moves too quickly for comfort and strains arthritic joints – the tired caregiver rushing to accomplish a task, rather than taking the time to nurture a bond. Massage therapists are trained to understand the needs of a variety of clients. When trying to find one, ask about their techniques and the ages of their regular clients. Don’t just make an appointment for mom or dad without doing a bit of research. Also, make sure the therapist knows of underlying conditions and medications. There may be some areas that should not be stimulated with massage due to certain conditions. * A word of caution – make sure the person receiving the massage can tolerate touch. One woman, plagued by peripheral neuropathy becomes nervous even thinking of being touched because of the pain it causes. Don’t push the issue, just consider it if the senior you are caring for can tolerate it.
