Nu har jag redigerat lite bilder från winterjam och jag måstet bara säga att det var sjukt kul där igår!

Jag kom fram till mig tre viktiga saker igår.

1. Drick inte 6Red Bull på tom mage, när man blir hypad av en!
2. Det är sjukt svårt att fota på kvällen med blixtar! Jag har egentligen vetat det ett tag, men jag har fortfarande problem med det. Det är svårt att veta hur mycket man ska ställa in blixtarna osv. Antingen blir åkaren ljus och allt annat mörkt eller tvärt om! Helt klart en sak jag behöver träna på! Porträtt bilderna är jag dock rätt nöjd med.
3. Titta så du har med dig alla kameragrejer innan du går! Jag fick springa en bra bit tillbaka för att hämta mitt stativ…

God, I dunno where to start to be honest.. Do you guys know kya bamba? Ah, alright! On Saturday evening I was organizing the official raiders party at besame mucho. It was the second edtion and it was even crazier than last year. For the guys who were there: On behalf of raiders.ch and salomon I really wanna thank you again for joining us! It’s great to see the whole community gathering.. Here just some impressions:

We had about 700 people in there watching the movie Everyday is a Saturday and partying to the dubplates of Kya Bamba. Insane night, next year again!

On Sunday the finals and superfinals were going down and the biggest dream came true: Elias ranking 2nd at Freestyle.ch! His jumps including flat 5 bow’n'arrow, flat 5 double japan and sw dub cork 10 led him into the superfinals where he did a sweeeeeeet sw dub cork 10 with a GUITAR GRAB.. Sammy Carlson, winning the freestyle.ch with an awesome performance in front of Elias, Andreas and Jon, was more than happy about his succes. However, Elias 2nd place is a milestone in the current development of his carreer and the whole development of Swiss freeski in general. WE CAN KEEP UP WITH THE WORLD and the circle of trust including Elias, Dave, Nico, DM, Andri and Jonas will prove it soon again. Unfortunately the two other members of the cot, Andri & Nico didn’t make it to the finals although they convinced me of their skills once more! Andri doing such a sick sw 7 octo and a clean switch 12 and Nico with plenty of style pulling an awesome bio 9 and flat 5 with a shifty – a pleasure to watch..

With the snow fast receding on the mountains of the Alpes Maritimes it is perhaps untimely to be talking of skiing and snowboarding but one of the reasons we write in this blog is to enthuse people of all ages of the wonder and beauty of the great outdoors so they will get off their fat asses and go and try ‘it’ for themselves. We don’t mind whether it is a ski or snowboard, a bike or base jumping, a surf board or scuba, a hang glider or a mountain to jump off or climb – the important thing to us is that you get out there and give it a go.

Look – the fact is there are far too many of us who do the square root of sweet fanny adams (whoever she was?) other than sit on our over extended backsides drinking some sugarised soda and munching on candy. Tick tock, tick tock, tick………..oh, oh the clock has stopped and there you go – just another number, another statistic for those bespectacled boffins who count and interpret numbers and tell us that we are an obese society dying too young because we have too much cholesterol in our systems.

We were therefore pleased to see that the Winter X games and ESPN have won the award presented by the National Ski Areas Association for bringing the thrill and excitement of skiing and snowboarding into the living rooms of millions of television viewers worldwide. The NSAA Industry Impact Award recognizes significant contributions made to the ski industry by an individual, business, or other entity.

Here’s some video actiom from m21d95 of the men’s super pipe final held at Aspen, Colorado in 2008, including Shaun White.

“We’d be remiss if we didn’t formally recognize the impact that the ESPN Winter X Games has made on the ski industry,” said NSAA President Michael Berry. “There is little doubt that the exciting action that these games deliver into the homes of viewers both young and old has caused them to pick themselves up off of their couch, and give skiing and snowboarding a try for themselves. Clearly the industry as a whole has benefited greatly from ESPN’s exposure.”

The Winter X Games have been held every January for 13 years. Debuting at Snow Summit, Calif., the event has subsequently been held at Mount Snow, Vt., Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Colo., and finally Aspen/Snowmass, where it’s remained for the past eight years.

We add our congratulations to Winter X games and ESPN and find it somewhat ironical that the award is being made on Marco Island, Florida on Thursday. Maybe the NSAA  too – like the Alpes Maritimes – have had enough snow for one year!!

A couple years ago, in 2006, there was a freestyle snowmobile event called Red Bull Fuel and Fury. Each riders competing was teamed up with a filmer and their goal was too make the best possible 5 minutes or so video in one week. This took place in Alaska. At the end of the event, video were judged and prizes were awarded to the best teams. The videos were quite good and the I think the fan enjoyed them (at least I did).

Last year, a similar event was created in the freestyle ski world or freeski world if you prefer. Jon Olsson, a professionnal freeskier is the one who created this event he named ”Jon Olsson Super Session” (JOSS). This year was the 2nd edition of this event. Based on their country, skiers were teamed 2 by 2 plus a professionnal filmer and they had to create the best video they could in one week or so. The result is 6 or so high high quality videos with good music, style, amazing camera angles, some eye candy for the fans. Here are links to these videos. No matter if you like freeski or not, you can just admire the quality and the originality of these vids.

Each time I look at these videos, I wish I could see something similar in the snowmobile world. Something with style and quality, some newschool stuff. What’s your opinion about that?

A good friend of mine, Andreas Amble, is attending JOSS right now. He is working with Friflyt Magazine, a Norwegian ski and snowboard magazine. Andreas is a very smart man. He knows that people want to see what’s going on at JOSS. If you’ve been checking Jon Olsson’s videoblog,  josupersessions.com,  Jacob Wester’s blog, or the Newschoolers.com blog, you would know that everyone at JOSS seems to be a little hush hush on showing the goods.

This is were Andreas comes in. Check out his edit from Trysil, Norway and the Sweet Rumble. It may not be the most professional video but it gives you a great idea of what is going down.

Det här älskar jag. Det är lagom skrytigt och färgstarkt. Det är faktiskt alldeles lagom på alla sätt. Inte för jante, inte för excentriskt.

Jon Olsson is pretty much the man. This guy just gains more and more popularity each year, vaulting him to a level of celebrity status that has yet to be passed in the ski world. I mean he drives a Lambo with a rocket box for pete’s pots. In the past, Jon has thrown together an event called the Jon Olsson Invitational, where some of the top riders in the world come to compete in what is basically a massive and epic big air comp. Despite its inauguration nearly three years ago, JOI was substituted in 2008 with a new comp; a comp where the format was not a one-day throwdown, but an extensive and impressive 7 day ski-party. In its place came the Jon Olsson Super Sessions.

Enough said. Anyways...

JOSS is a week long JOI, where riders are to produce their own bangin’ 5 minute video and photo slideshow, obtained from 5 meaty features across Sweden. Best edit = 1st place. 2008 Marked the first JOSS, and in the end it was so successful, its return was inevitable. Here the world laid its eyes on skiing so fantastic, snowboarders dropped their planks and swapped sides, babies stopped crying, and the element of invitational competitions would change for eternity. Here is a fantastic video summarizing the week of JOSS last year. I highly suggest watching this if I am making no sense so far.

Last year’s winner, Sammy Carlson, produced a segment so sick it hurts my eyes to watch it again.

This year’s format for JOSS is slightly different, however the principal is still the same. Instead of individuals, teams were made up, each consisting of 2 riders from the same country, 2 filmers and a photographer. Here are the teams for this year:

Here in the northern hemisphere we are caught in between a rock and a hard place – on Wednesday we looked up into the azur skies and for the first time this year we saw arrivals from the south – swallows and house martins whirled in the blustery skies and we smiled at the thought of the impending arrival of summer and the warmth – it has been a cold, long, hard and wet winter.

On the other hand and determined not to let go of the winter we decided to head for the mountains the next day. No more than a two hour drive from where we live we headed up the Var valley from Nice and toward Valberg in the Mercantour – part of the Alpes Maritimes range. Perhaps the snow was not as perfect as what we had experienced in January and February but it was still in plentiful supply – something you could not say about  people. It was as though the lifts, pistes and restaurants had been reserved exclusively for us. Wide open mountains, clinging to their winter hue, sugared and yet warm.

It was fabulous to have the freedom to go where we wanted and when we wanted and without having to wear all the goretexed, insulated, waterproofed, windproofed paraphernalia that is so necessary in January. Probably the best day of the winter and as we left we thought it would probably be the last time this year – yes it is time to put the kit away.

But it has been an AB FAB year and as a reminder of the fun that has been had in the mountains we found this excellent video of some truly extreme skiing put together by adsaru which will hopefully give us all some happy memories.

With the arrival of the swallows it is likely that our attention will be drawn toward extremes found in and on the water and don’t forget that Formula 1 kicks off its 2009 season in Melbourne this weekend – oh and also that the clocks move forward an hour - at least in France! for once being caught between the rock and the hard place doesn’t seem so bad.

En del av er har kanske stött på en lite annorlunda Lamborghini Gallardo, antingen i Stockholm, Åre eller Monaco, Kamouflage-målad med takbox. Förvisso kan det ha vart en tid sedan, då han nu har sålt den. Men inte sviker hans hjärta Lamborghini. Nej då, den gamla Gallardon byttes ut mot storebror Murcielago. Denna gång är den svart/mörk grå mattlackad och återigen med takbox på plats. Denna gång får jag säga att han lyckats riktigt bra, mattlackat passar sig ypperligt bra på Lamborghinis nya bilar.

Spending the day inside is a little bit relaxing, a little bit shitty. Especially watching this. It happened a while ago, but Jon is always in season.

For those of you who caught the X Games ski big air, you will know what I’m talking about. If not, this is a good summary of the night for skiers.

For the first time ever in the X Games, the judging of the big air, both snowboard and ski, was to be done not by a panel of judges, but by the public viewing the event. The votes would be measured by text messages received from the viewing audience. I’m guessing you can see where this is going…

In the snowboard category, Travis Rice, being the sole American competitor in the event, had little to worry about that night, claiming “America’s got my back”. And right he was. An entirely American crowd of teenage boys and girls showed little to no compassion for Rice’s competition, clearly the better side. This article explains how the prejudiced judging went down.

On the ski side, it was the same. Simon Dumont, the lone American, had little to do but show up in order to get his gold medal. The degree of difficulty and execution of his tricks were nothing compared to that of his competitors. In the Jan 24th episode (Big air practice) of Jon Olsson’s videoblog, he predicts Simon will win the contest with a superman double front flip, clearly a crowd pleaser. Sure enough, despite PK Hunder’s amazing double 12’s, and Jon’s switch double 10 (with afterbang thank you), Simon walked away with the gold. Here is another good summary of this debatable topic.

Anyways thought I’d share that with you. Nonetheless, Simon was kind enough to donate his winnings to his injured friend Riley Poor, which in the end was a very thoughtful move. Perhaps a new judging system is to be thought of?

I currently am searching for a petition of some sort showcasing the redundancy of this text-based voting system and will share when found.

Så var det dags för årets City Jam i Härnösand den 31.1. Samma datum som syrrans lilltjej fyller år. Jag var där förra året och blev positivt inspirerad av alla dessa hoppande och jammande ungdomar. Förresen så tycker jag man kan samla alla goa initiativ som sker i landers kommuner på en egen hemsida. Där finns uppslag för en C upsats.

Det kommer att byggas ett hopp mitt i city och just nu är det nästan 30 anmälda i skidkateogorin. Det är min vän Lina Dahlbom och den driftige ynglingen Robin som håller i det hela. Hey gang,

I was just browsing around recently and came across the Videoblog of Jon Olsson. This guy has been around for ages and still proves to be one of the best park skiers ever (specializing in varied aspects, of course).  This little videoblog he runs has been going strong for almost 2 years, although his new website is set up for videos dating back to only a few months ago (Why Jon?) He keeps his updates fresh and frequent, varying from park lapping, to comps, to training and so forth. He even went back to his routes and took up racing again. If that doesn’t stir up the mix then I don’t know what will. Check him out!

On a side note, for those of you who know the story of his pro model skis: first the blondes, then the brunette, then…
