They say opposites attract, but seeing a beautiful woman with an unattractive man never fails to attract comment. Think Christine Aguilera and Jordan Bratman; Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett; Jay-Z and Beyonce; Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson; Woody Allen and Mia Farrow, and the newly married Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard.

While some of these couples – like Julia and Lyle – didn’t last long – others like Christine and Jordan appear to have the relationship game sussed.

Christina recently gushed to E! News, “”Jordan just continuously…just makes me fall deeper and deeper in love with him every day. He just exudes such love…and [is] such a great father to Max (their toddler son) that it just makes me the happiest woman alive.”

Jordan keeps his woman happy by surprising her with balloons, leaving love notes, and maintaining a tradition known as Naked Sundays, where the couple spends the day totally naked.

Massive amounts of pampering no doubt help Christine and Jordan bond, but the beauty gap may also have something to do with it.

A 2008 study found that found that married couples communicate more positively when wives are more attractive than their husbands. (Conversely both spouses behaved more negatively when the husband was more attractive than the wife.)

Previous research has shown that people seeks relationships with others who are judged to be attractive. The research wanted to see if the benefits of looking good lasted into marriage.

Benefits of Looking Good

The University of Florida study was an effort to answer the questions “are the benefits of attractiveness limited to formative stages of new relationships?”

Researchers examined 82 couples in the first six months of their marriages. Spouses reported their marital satisfaction and were rated by trained observers regarding their levels of attractiveness and the positivity of the interactions with each other.

Researchers found “both spouses tended to behave more positively when wives were more attractive than their husbands.” Both spouses behaved “more negatively when husbands were more attractive than their wives,” according to the study.

“Certainly, physical attractiveness is not the only thing that matters to marriage,” says lead researcher Associate Professor James McNulty. “At a more general level, the study suggests that spouses will behave more positively when their partners meet the desires that are important to them.”

As we said, Christine knows pampering – just feeling appreciated – certainly helps.

Okay, I am writing a biography of Christina Aguilera. When I first received the assignment from my agent, I said just that — “huh?” Well, not out loud of course. My children were agog that their 50-something mother was writing about Christina Aguilera.

“Mom, do you know who she is? She’s only like the biggest star/singer out there today!” said Sam, age 23.

I am embarassed to say that I’d heard her name and that was about it. I didn’t know a single one of her songs, and I couldn’t pick her out of a lineup. Christina, Britany, Mariah, Madonna — they’re all the same, so I thought. Wrong.

Well, I’m into this now for about a month and I have “met” one of the most amazing women I’ve ever known. Forget the fact that she’s 27, she can teach women of any age a myriad of things. As I read about her, I sink deeper into her circle of admirers. I see a young woman who knows what she wants and goes after it, a young woman who knows herself and is not afraid to present it, a woman who works hard and doesn’t expect things to be handed on a silver platter, a woman who celebrates her sexuality, a young mother who has scaled back her incredible career to care for her baby, and finally, a wife who puts her marriage before the addictive lures of Hollywood and the entertainment biz.

Which brings me to the main point of this post. A few years ago, when Christina was a guest on the Ellen DeGeneres show, Ellen asked her how she keeps her marriage alive. She openly answered that on Sundays, she and her husband, Jordan Bratman, spend the entire day naked. They even cook naked, she said. Talk about adding some spice to love, life, and lasagna!!

SIR SEAN Connery has admitted not being able to speak to his wife is the secret behind his happy marriage.

The former Bond star has been married to French wife Micheline for over 30 years, but still cannot speak a word in her native tongue.

And the 78 year-old screen legend insists the language barrier does not stop the pair from having heated arguments – instead claiming their tiffs keep their relationship strong.

He said: “I don’t speak a word of French but often think that what should be a handicap is actually a godsend.

“She may only be half my size but she’s got a few snappy comebacks. We’re total opposites – that’s what has kept us together all these years.”

Connery’s latest screen role sees him appearing alongside Olympic hero Chris Hoy and musicians Sandi Thom and Eddi Reader in the recently released Homecoming Scotland 2009 advert.

The ad sees various Scottish celebs singing a line each from Dougie McLean’s anthem Caledonia – although Sir Sean decided in the end to speak his line.

Filmed to entice those with Scottish ancestry to visit their homeland during 2009, the £200,000 advertising campaign has been branded “a waste of money”.

Former First Minister Jack McConnell recently slammed Alex Salmond for “hijacking the campaign for his own personal crusade”.

He said: “The First Minister and the SNP are more interested in publicising themselves and Scottish identity in Scotland than in promoting Scotland as a destination to those who live elsewhere.

“The whole Homecoming idea – which we began five years ago – was to increase tourism and promote Scotland, leading to more jobs. We wanted those with Scottish ancestors to consider returning.

“This advertising campaign is a waste of money. The first minister has been hijacking the campaign for his own personal crusade. Scotland should be outraged. I am.”

Connery is not the first celebrity to reveal the secrets to his happy marriage.

American pop star Christina Aguilera has been married to marketing executive Jordan Bratman for three years and credits the couple’s “naked Sundays” for keeping her relationship fresh.

She said: “We have something called naked Sundays. You have to keep marriage alive, spice it up. We don’t need to go anywhere, we’re just with each other. We do everything naked. We even cook naked.”

With the credit crunch It is not only the stock market that’s plummeting these days.  After showing off her impressive post-baby cleavage throughout the year, new mum Christina Aguilera appears to have deflated somewhat in recent weeks.  Compared to her generous bosoms earlier this year, Aguilera’s cleavage now looks positively shrunken.

We all know that your boobs go bigger during breast feeding and it is inevitable when a woman stops they boobs will disappear, especially when you are “petite” as Christina is.  Being in the spot light as she is, the pressure is there to lose that weight and get back shape as quickly as possible because we all know how judgemental the press can be and how they love to take those photos that the celebrities will squirm about.

The 27-year-old singer showed off her modest curves during a night out with husband Jordan Bratman in Hollywood a couple of weeks ago.

Dressed in a plunging black halterneck maxi dress and a crochet cardigan, Aguilera looked stunning at the launch of the L’Agence Clothing and the Fashion Rules board game at Fred Segal.

A likely reason behind her reduced chest could be she has stopped breast-feeding her 10-month-old son Max Liron.   As recent as September, when Aguilera was visiting London, she was still cutting a busty figure. The Genie In A Bottle singer revealed she had started breast-feeding Max the day he was born in January and she was in ‘awe’ of the process.  She said: ‘(The first time) it was magical. It’s amazing: Your body is this supplier of food. I’m in awe of it.’

Aguilera put on 40 pounds while pregnant with Max and went up two shoes sizes.  She said ‘My stomach was really where I carried my weight. Toward the end of my pregnancy, I felt really big – I gained about 40 pounds, which is a lot for my size.  ‘My hips also changed significantly. And my feet grew from a size five-and-a-half to a size seven in flats.’

The singer quickly lost the pregnancy weight through breast-feeding, but her chest remained large.  She said: ‘I think they say that when you’re breastfeeding, you know, your weight kind of slims down.   ‘It’s a little easier. It’s like a workout within itself. It’s very tiring actually and you find yourself snacking more often. ‘Thank God my feet went back to normal. I would have been so depressed if I had to get rid of my shoe collection.’

On Thursday, Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz became proud parents of a baby boy, whom they named Bronx Mowgli. Yes, Bronx Mowgli. Urban Jungle. Now, this is an interior design blog, so I’ll reserve judgment on this kid’s moniker (see The Daily Beast for hipster names to avoid) and, instead, celebrate little Bronx’s birth with cheers/jeers (or the baby equivalent, gurgle/poop) to the rooms of fellow celebrity babies.

For her child’s jungle theme, Pressly bought custom pieces and commissioned an artist to paint panels inspired by The Jungle Book. The stuffed giraffe and other stuffed animals are from FAO Schwarz.

Although the room is very heavily themed (talk about beating it into the ground) and the child can enjoy nightmares associated with giant African predators looming over him each night, the sleigh crib seems climb proof, and the slats are close enough together so the baby’s head can’t get stuck.

Jessica Alba

Part mod, part Victorian vintage, Alba keeps all that baby stuff to a minimum, and instead, plays up the child’s future cool factor when the crib is no longer needed. Much of the furniture in this room is designed with sustainability in mind.

There sure is a lot of pink in there, but surprisingly, it’s not overly frilly. The juxtaposition of the ornate light fixtures and the British invasion LOVE print make this room just right for a baby who’s a future It-Girl.

A simple, calm space makes up Shields’ room design, created by Wendy Bellissimo. Not totally made up already, this room can be re-designed as her kid gets her own personality.

Well, it looks like a real (the window), usable (the hamper) room, but SNOOZE…

For her twins, Lopez mastered a space that is as glamorous as she is. We can’t confirm it, but all of these pieces were probably custom made, hand sewn, and finished with the tears of an angel.

Let’s cut to the chase here, what kind of room is this for a baby (besides baby Liberace)? If I were a kid, I’d be terrified to spit-up in here, and my nanny would probably get fired if J-Lo ever found out I did.

The Nintendo inspired wall decals were Aguilera’s husband’s idea. In this large space, the baby’s crib is front and center, and offers the child a 360 view of all the wonder that’s in the room.

Is that giant moon made of metal? For the child’s safety, I pray not. I get the whole whimsical/celestial thing, but it’s a whole lotta look going on.

VERDICT: gurgle for Jordan Bratman’s input, poop for Christina Aguilera’s design (like I’d ever trust her to dress anything)

Peet readily admits she’s a big copycat, but she claims this was all organic inspiration. The “Funny Girl’ poster is the centerpiece for her child’s room, and the textiles, clean lines, and lack of “nursery” elements come from a Scandinavian design aesthetic.

How cute is that owl? This room is perfect for a privileged but street-smart kid from New York who uses only “Toms of Maine” toothpaste.

I got this photo from typing in “Britney Spears nursery” into a search engine, and according to the website, the picture is from a German publication that received a tour of her home. If it’s actually Spears’ nursery for her firstborn, it looks like she bought everything from QVC’s porcelain doll showcase hour.

Scary. Like, on a Michael Jackson level.
