I just read Howard Bryants article “LeBron’s Miscalculation about numbers” at ESPN and it disgusted me so much I started a blog…

Howard Bryant’s article suggests that LeBron was out of line to suggest that Michael Jordan’s #23 jersey should be retired by the NBA they way MLB retired Jackie Robinson’s and the NHL retired Wayne Gretzky’s. He goes on to state that “at best… well meaning but ill considered, even unconsidered” and “at worst, a heinous example of how the king of sunglasses-indoors, friend-of-usher crowd has no historical perspective” he goes on to suggest that LeBron James’s thinking is “morally empty and narcissistic”.

The premise for his argument is that for a league to retire a number the way MLB retired Jackie Robinsons is a slight to Jackie Robinson and what he did for African-Americans in the USA. He concluded his argument accusing LeBron’s generation (also my generation) of having no respect for history and that if he changed his reading habits (as opposed to his number) he might just learn something.

First of all, I find it horrendous that in an article that calls attention to the mistreatment of African-Americans in the USA, you make “at best” unreferenced and “at worst” made up generalisations about an entire generation. Howard Bryant, in the future I think it would be wise to avoid voicing your own unfounded prejudices against any groups within society when heralding a positive impact on racism in America.

Now to the crux, why not Jordan? Sure Bill has the championships, Wilt scored 100, Oscar averaged a triple-double and Bird and Magic had the rivalry, but when you consider the statistical domination, the individual accolades, the team accolades, even the highlight reels; it is difficult to make the GOAT argument for any other player. If being the greatest is still not enough to qualify one for league wide number retirement, keep reading.

Now Howard Bryant, often there is a generalisation that Americans are lacking in knowledge when it comes to the affairs of the rest of the world. I want to make it clear that I don’t subscribe to such broad generalisations, I do however, think that YOU are lacking in this regard. Meet Hussein. Hussein is a bedouin from Southern Jordan who works at Dana Nature Reserve. If South Africa is the cradle of the civilizations, Jerusalem is the heart of all pilgrimage. Housing major religions (Muslims, Jews, Orthodox Christians, etc) in a walled city no bigger than the Vatican, it is almost as if you were living inside the Bible. Part of the trip is going to Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were uncovered (Dan Brown must’ve been here and gotten hold of the scrolls). For those who could take the challenge, climbing Egypt’s Mt. Sinai is one of the greatest. The top is a haven for photographers especially with their DSLRs. A vantage point whether it is Sunrise, noon or Sunset. The oohhs and aahhhs doesn’t stop there and continues with the Pyramids and Sphinx. A recent report by Dutch researchers calls attention to the relation of the irrigation, especially that in the Zerqa River triangle of Jordan, to population and the nature of the communities.

You can make major discoveries by walking across a field and picking up every loose item you find. Dutch researcher Eva Kaptijn succeeded in discovering – based on 100,000 finds – that the Zerqa Valley in Jordan had been successively inhabited and irrigated for more than 13,000 years. But it was not just communities that built irrigation systems: the irrigation systems also built communities.

Archaeologist Eva Kaptijn has given up digging in favour of gathering. With her colleagues, she has been applying an intensive field exploration technique: 15 metres apart, the researchers would walk forward for 50 metres. On the outward leg, they’d pick up all the earthenware and, on the way back, all of the other material. This resulted in more than 100,000 finds, varying from about 13,000 years to just a few decades old. Based on further research on the finds and where they were located, Kaptijn succeeded in working out the extent of habitation in the Zerqa Valley in Jordan over the past millennia.

The Zerqa River is known as the Jabbok in the Bible. It is probably best known as the place where Jacob met with Esau as he returned from Paddan Aram, and where his name was changed to Israel (Genesis 32).

The same night he arose and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. (Genesis 32:22 ESV)

Jordan utilizes the water of the Jabbok (Zerqa) for irrigatation, especially in the Jordan Valley. This photo which I made last year shows the Jabbok a few miles from the Jordan Valley. The mountains are in the Biblical land of Gilead. Before the river reaches this point much of the water has been caught in reservoirs for use by the Jordanians.

Katie Price Quits I’m A Celebrity Jungle

31 year old Katie Price (Jordan), quit the popular series of I’m A Celebrity Jungle. Katie claimed that she had enough of being tortured by the viewers of this renowned show and having to face the exhausting Bushtucker Trials every day. This well known model was nominated for the seventh trial but, she refused even to take part in it. She was selected along with Joe Bugner for the ghastly Bad Pit trial but she commented “Someone else has to do it. I am just not doing it anymore.” Katie was given around 3, 50,000£ just to return back to the show but, she could last in the jungle for just eight days. Till now it is not known what actually will happen to the amount she got to be back on the show. But, she says that she doesn’t care anymore for the money or the show and she also said “Others in there do. I don’t. I’ve got money. I have just done a big book tour. This isn’t about the money anyway.”

Phil and Gray say “Katie is not a quitter but, after all this it is clear enough. After quitting the jungle, Jordan was shifted to a luxury Versace hotel on the Gold Coast of Australia but, she refused to speak to the press or to tell the reason why she left the show. As per her spokes person she might do a live chat on I’m A Celebrity Jungle tonight with the hosts of the show – Ant and Dec and she will also explain her sudden walk out from the show.

Now Jordan is out and anyway Alex Reid is also planning to propose her for marriage so we need to see what will Katie prefer – back to I’m A Celebrity Jungle with daunting trials or a ring by Alex.

What is it? and also does it differ from boys to girls? yeah i think so..

Guys in Jordan dream of many things:
1- Cool gf while in school that he wouldnt mind shower her with gifts and mobile prepaid cards.
2- cool car to brag among his friends.
3- good job that never comes and the one they find sucks their blood and preferably in the gulf. aka Dubai.
4- Marriage, although he knows it will suck the hell out of him but he’s happy somehow. because his mother won’t nag anymore, his dad would think his son became a man, finally! and sex. then all his dreams come to an end!! a black end.
5- The ultimate dream, that would be a perfect substitute for all the above is to move out of Jordan. Having the Jordanian dream somewhere else. aka USA!
most of guys dream or “don’t mind” the American citizenship. especially teenagers and a little older than teens. “bedna nfee3!! bedna nshoof el denya!! bedna masare!!” anyway, they have a point i think.. what they gonna do here? fight with the routine?

Girls dreams are way easier and simpler!!
1- good grades n good school
2- fix herself a rich boy so he can get her gifts to brag among her friends.
3- getting engaged just to wake up and see a ring in her finger!
4- get married in a fancy hotel hall.. fancy car.. fancy home and stupid husband!
5- ultimate dream is having a happy marriage! a fairy-tale!! well, there is a happy marriage i think, when one realize that there’s also downs just like there are ups. which is not the topic here..

Of course this is not all… some have other dreams too.. like dreaming at night :p nah.. you know what i mean..

If getting Freeview means I let any more of Piers Morgan, Amanda Holden, Jordan, Kirsty and Phil or Heston Blumenthal into my home then I’ll stick with analogue, thankyouverymuch. Add Vernon Kay and Anton Du Beke to that roster and I’ll gladly blow up the transmitter and a take a shotgun to my own face.

FTC FTW!

Katie Price has quit the TV show I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here after protesting she was repeatedly selected for bushtucker trials. The glamour model’s shock exit came after she refused to take part in today’s planned trial, having been nominated to face yet another test. She now believes that by doing this she has proved to the public that she is genuine and that she did not care about winning. She was paid £350,000 for her, all but brief, appearance on the programme.

those being “amateur karaoke weekly” and ”I’m not even a celebrity… what am i doing here?!?!”

So it would appear that weekly amateur karaoke thing is going to hit the skids in the same way Big Brother has after this years utter chaos with talks of microphone fixers making sure people couldn’t hear how bad Deadwood were during Queen week (not such a bad thing really) and as many deadlocks as smacked up guests (whitney and robbie amongst them)… just seems to be a cowell related lesson into how to rinse more money out of an already skint public and the ever gullible advertiser…

and as for that jungle thingy, Katie Price is wondering why the public is constantly voting her into the hell of the bush-tucker trials? well Ms Price… either read any copy of Bleat magazine from the last six months or watch any of the god-awful repeats of “katie and peter” and watch yourself embarrassing, berating and belittling a man so far ahead of you in the likability, personality and parenting stakes… and you will come to realise that the whole country thinks you are a massive bitch with as much charisma as those insects you’ve been cramming down your throat…

And as for Ant, Dec & Dermot… show some balls outside of you pay packet… bunch of puppets…

So, Jordan’s left I’m A Celebrity and many would say good riddance.  But I for one will miss her.

I know, I know.  Katie Price knew what she was getting herself into when she signed up for I’m a Celebrity. She was hardly the nation’s sweetheart when she went into the jungle,

Katie found the pressure of the trials too much

famed for pushing the boundaries of human suffering.  But I think the British public should give her a break.

Yes, her split with Peter Andre may not have shown her in the best light.  But unlike Peter, who seems to have been told to stare wistfully into the distance and talk about his kids every few seconds, Katie did what any self-respecting celeb would do.  She went to Ibiza, got trashed and nabbed herself a cross-dressing, cage-fighting boyfriend.  Ask yourself this question:  if all celebrities were like this, would the world not be a far better place?

And like all true celebs, she has an alter ego.  Beyonce has Sasha.  Jennifer Lopez has J-Lo.  Katie has Jordan.  By day she is Katie,  the average, stay-at-home type, but at night she becomes Jordan, the surgery addict who likes to play with the notions of human decency and taste.  She is almost like a modern day superhero.  And to top it all off, she is willing to eat a kangeroo anus to win favour with the British public.  If that isn’t true star quality, I don’t know what is.

No, I’d keep an eye on Stuart instead.  His dazzlingly white teeth and chiselled jaw may have blinded a few people, but I just don’t trust him.  Look at how long he was prepared to stand holding water in a tube to escape nominations.  People who have the capacity to hold water in tubes for hours can never be trusted.  And after all that, he moaned about his immunity and claimed he was “taking one for the team”.  Unless he has an unusual fetish for saving water, something doesn’t quite add up, methinks…
