CBS has announced that it will renew How I Met Your Mother for a ninth, and final, season.

So finally, in 2014, one of the biggest TV questions is going to be answered! How did Ted (Josh Radner) meet the mother of his children?

For the past 8 seasons, Ted has been telling his kids dating stories which have all been leading up to the final reveal of how he met their mother. In the process of that, we have come to know and love his ‘other family’ – Lily (Alyson Hannigan), Marshall (Jason Segel), Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), and Robin (Cobie Smulders) (who, for a while, many thought could be the actual mum)

According to digitalspy.com, “CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler said of the renewal: “Through eight years, How I Met Your Mother has mastered the art of leading-edge comedy, emotional water-cooler moments and pop culture catchphrases. We are excited… to tell the final chapter and reveal television’s most mysterious mother to some of TV’s most passionate fans.”

As sad as it is to hear that the series is coming to an end (it has one of my favourite TV ensemble casts), I can’t wait to find out how Ted met the mother of his children – and who she is!

Here’s where the story’s at in season 8

I love the genre of film loosely termed ‘American Indie’ From Mumblecore to Rom Com these low budget

I love the genre of film loosely termed ‘American Indie’ From Mumblecore to Rom Com these low budget, dialogue driven films regularly portray the lives of slightly lost 30 something creative. These remind me of my life and those of many I know, people not sure what they want in life but sure they don’t want an office job and so for now have social jobs in bars, cafés and cinemas; working on something creative on the side and never fully committing to a future goal or the idea of being a grown up. People who are really decent and intelligent but just a little lost. This is me at 25.

Liberal Arts is a refreshing film about someone ‘finding himself’. It’s hard to use the term finding oneself without sounding pretentious, I know this from recently travelling. But it does so happen that an event of any sort can help you get things into perspective. In this case the main character realises that by fooling around in relationships that can’t endure and still acting the same as during his university days (though a fairly responsible student not a crazy party student) his life won’t develop. After talking to his retiring lecturer, still young at heart, he realises the enigma of ageing, the subtleties of becoming grown up and that the act of being an adult needn’t be your enemy.

The main character played by Josh Radner is very likeable and after seeing everything nostalgically realises the importance of embracing the future rather than dwelling on the rose tinted student years. He is helped along the way by some diverse characters, a young student girl who is wise beyond her age and trying to skip ahead, a student boy who is having an awful time of the present and two lecturers who are equally unsubstantiated with their present in their own rights. This film is moving past the slacker and beginning to grasp the idea of taking responsibility and living life in an ‘age relevant’ way. You can’t live free of all responsibility but it isn’t necessary to let it weigh you down like a shackle.

Take this Waltz deals predominantly with the issues of relationship and how in this consumerist society we always want something new; the latest iPhone, a new car, a new job but that this causes a conflict when considering relationships. A relationship isn’t something that can be upgraded because whatever you upgrade to will become out of date (i.e the lust will fade) before too long. A relationship is more like learning a musical instrument and having to endure the progress and the repetition.

In this beautifully shot film Michelle Williams stumbles over this dilemma leaving her reliable and lovable long term partner for the mysterious artist across the street mainly for the reason of wanting something new. The phrase ‘even shiny things get old’ sums up this film and after a humptastic montage Williams finds herself in the same situation with the new guy, only he isn’t so much of a ‘keeper’ now the old guy is a published author and doing successfully.

I really enjoyed both these films and their ways of addressing age, time and consumerism were something that seems very much of the time. Being responsible for our actions is essential and any consequences of them are down purely to our whims, selfishness and ambition. They both show likeable normal people going through times of confusion. One has a positive ending, the other doesn’t but the morals are very strong either way. Life isn’t going to wait for anyone.

I already know the first season already, but figuring that the series could be the FRIENDS of the 21

I already know the first season already, but figuring that the series could be the FRIENDS of the 21st Century, I started to rewatch the first episodes, so that I can catch up with the show until the series finale… sometimes in two, three years.

And I was surprised to see that I was remembering the pilot much better. Watching it now let me realize that the dialog was pretty flat, the performances were really weak, especially Josh Radnor‘s. The story itself seems intriguing at first, and though the twist with Robin (Cobie Smulders) not being the mother, instead the aunt, is nice, but it already lets shine through, how the series will look like. I already know what will go o during the later seasons, but I don’t really know if I’m interested in seeing basically nothing for six straight seasons, except some character-based storylines. But then on the other hand, I just have to think of another title of the show, and it could work.

The characters were actually alright for the pilot. The cast got their pictures of how to perform their characters, and some moments were even funny. I can understand why Neil Patrick Harris might be a bit overrated in this show, because his “Suit up” is already annoying me, as well as his kickass-attitude, which seems so out of place for the group of friends he is in, and I’m almost keen to say that Radnor was the weakest link in the series, which is a complete no-go, since his character is the center of the series. So I hope my fading memories of the first season aren’t gone, because I didn’t like what I saw.

Unfortunately, multicams aren’t really funny anymore, but I was happy that the pilot had at least some nice moments. For example the second-base-sentence Lily (Alyson Hannigan) gave, or the kiss between Barney and Marshall (Jason Segel). But the rest was practically lame. Especially Ranjit (Marshall Manesh), who absolutely didn’t fit into the series. He can be the cab driver, I don’t care, but his little second with the group at the end… eyesroll-moment deluxe.

So, all in all, it was not really a great pilot. Sometimes bad acting, sometimes bad dialog, not funny at all times. I wonder why I even watched the first season years ago… 4.5/10

Dedicated to Jess Arruda and Eryn Spangler, my fellow HIMYM-obsessed friends.

Jess Arruda introduced the sitcom How I Met Your Mother to me just three short years ago. I am now just as obsessed as she is . Click here to read a post from my other blog to fill you in on the background of the show. Today, I just want to show you the fabulous, hilarious music these talented actors and actresses have produced thus far.

“Let’s Go to the Mall” by Robin Sparkles (a.k.a Cobie Smulders):

This video was revealed during an episode when Barney and Marshall were (slap) betting on why Robin hates going to malls. It turns out that she was a teenage pop star in Canada during her youth!

“You Just Got Slapped” by Marshall Erickson (a.k.a. Jason Segel):

Because Marshall won the slap bet about Robin, he earned the right to slap Barney five times throughout eternity. After his second slap (during the “Slapsgiving” episode), he played this song for his and Lily’s Thanksgiving dinner guests. (The footage shown during the show was not this video. This is a separate music video Jason Segel made.)

“Nothing Suits Me Like A Suit” by Barney Stinson (a.k.a. Neil Patrick Harris) and rest of cast:

On January 11th, 2009, the 100th episode of HIMYM finally aired! The team of writers, actors and producers wanted the show to be a doozy (!) so they crafted this song for Neil’s voice in a broadway musical style. Well done, gang!

The main actors “singing” the HIMYM theme song:

This is from a blooper reel on one of the DVD season box sets. Of course, the singing sounds terrible here, but it shows just a glimpse of the fun this cast has on set.

Well another sitcom in review. I came upon How I Met Your Mother (or HIMYM as it is affectionately referred to by fans) after watching Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog, in which Neil Patrick Harris stars as Dr. Horrible. Absolutely loved it, so I figured I would check out this show that he was in, and I was pleasantly surprised.

NPH plays Barney Stinson, fun loving, skirt chasing, funny man. But the show follows Ted Mosby (Josh Radner) as he recounts years in NYC and how he met his wife (future Ted is telling his children theses stories). The show also stars Alyson Hannigan (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Lilly Aldren, Jason Segal as Marshall Aldren, and Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbotsky, the Canadian of the bunch. But bla-bla-bla, you could get this on any wiki right?

The show is a fun and clever sit-com. The first few seasons were great both on their story and the jokes. This fourth season has been entertaining no doubt. Everybody (in the USA) loves a good Canadian Joke, making up a holiday (“Not Father’s Day) and who doesn’t like making fun of people who go Wooo!,( “”Woooo!”") or even grown men dressing as ninjas or wizzards (“Mosbius Designs”), but when it comes down to it, it feels like the show is starting to jump the shark.

Last nights episode showed that. The show used to have a cohesive plot, fun episodes, great jokes. Last nights episode was just a compilation of “pile on the ridiculous.” As Ted starts his own company in the apt. that he shares with Robin, the fact that he already hired an assistant, though entertaining, was not entirely plausible, and the whole assistant running the apt. denying Robin access to the bathroom…funny, but really? And Barney and Marshall trying to find Marshall’s “whatever-guy” looking at the food, toy, fantasty, touching, etc-guy in their office, was just ridiculously over the top, some of which you can get away with, but it just seemed like a bit much, even though I was chucking at it.

[Spoiler] The episode has Barney openly admitting that he loves Robin, well, at least to Marshall. But for Barney, ultimate player, to make that admission, was a large step, and probably preparing the way for something larger in a season finale.

Also, I know that Lilly leaving was because of Alyson’s pregnancy (she gave birth to a daughter on March 24th, 2009). But it was so fast, and a little contrived. But what can you do, you had to get her off the show somehow I guess. It just seems a bit outrages that she just took off for 4 weeks over a bad joke.

In the end I am torn. We watch these shows to laugh and hopefully we watch them for the story value. I felt like last nights story value was cheapened by the “jumping the sharkness” of the antics, without any significant redeeming story value. Did I laugh, sure, but its just not what I have come to expect from HIMYM. Still, this season has pumped out some great episodes, like “The Naked Man.”

Verdict: Not the best episode of the series. I made me laugh at points so I guess its a win. If you haven’t yet, go watch the earlier seasons. They provide better laughs and better story and character development.

Lindsay Price is playing coy about her new beau, How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor.

“I’m so shy talking about that stuff!” the Lipstick Jungle actress tells Usmagazine.com.

Check out the hottest hookups of 2008.

She did, however, admit to meeting Radnor’s mom.

“I have actually [met her], but it wasn’t a ‘situation,’” Price says. “They were in town, and they all got together.”

Price, who met Radnor when guest-starring on an episode of his CBS sitcom in 2007, says that they have “been friends for awhile, and we have mutual friends in common.”

Although the two were photographed flirting and laughing together at a Knicks-Celtics game in NYC on Friday, Price might already have plans for Valentine’s Day.

See photos of other couples getting cozy.

“There is always a regular brunch that I do with my family,” Price told Us at the Armani Exchange Kiss for a Cause event in NYC on Saturday. “It started in junior high school when it was which boy has a crush on me.

“It’s such a heightened feeling for people that are already emotional to feel lonely or ultra-romantic,” she says about the holiday. “My parents started at a pretty early age with this. We always have a champagne toast and give each other cards — it’s pretty cute.”

Take a look at other cute couples spending time together.

Will there be an extra seat for Radnor at the table?

“I don’t know, I don’t know,” Price says, smiling. “It will be a fun Valentine’s Day this year, I think.”
