The intro to the new book “Full Metal Jackie Certified: The 50 Most Influential Heavy Metal Songs Of The ’80s And The True Stories Behind Their Lyrics” describes the joy of vinyl — in a time before the Internet — with perfect sentiment.

“Listening to a metal album used to be an event. Without the digital availability of information on the Internet, hearing an album for the first time was the single source of make-believe, a direct connection to the imagination. Fans would slit the shrink wrap and carefully slide the vinyl LP from the cardboard cover. The paper sleeve would rest in cross-legged laps while the listener absorbed the lyrics, word for word, studying them and staring at the photographs and artwork to make the songs come alive in their mind’s eye.”

Of course, this could be describing any album. And the experience is just not the same with a new CD.

There is also a foreward by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine. Who could be a better person to describe those metal times than Dave Mustaine? Maybe Lars Ulrich. But, post-Napster, it comes out better from Dave Mustaine.

One other thing: that’s a fantastic photo by Mark Weiss of Rob Halford and KK Downing on the cover (cropped, of course, just right) of Full Metal Jackie Certified.

You’re in for surprise
You’re in for a shock
In London town streets
When there’s darkness and fog
When you least expect me
And you turn your back
I’ll attack

I smile when I’m sneaking
Through shadows by the wall
I laugh when I’m creeping
But you won’t hear me at all

All hear my warning
Never turn your back
On the ripper

You’ll soon shake with fear
Never knowing if I’m near
I’m sly and I’m shameless
Nocturnal and nameless
Except for “The Ripper”
Or if you like “Jack The Knife”

Any back alley street
Is where we’ll probably meet
Underneath a gas lamp
Where the air’s cold and damp
I’m a nasty surprise
I’m a devil in disguise
I’m a footstep at night
I’m a scream of the fright

All hear my warning
Never turn your back
On the ripper…the ripper….the ripper

The Ripper Judas Priest 1976

Comment: The Ripper: One of the classical heavy metal songs and texts. The point of view-technique is used. An unobservant listener could identify with the aggressivity in sentences as

“When there’s darkness and fog
When you least expect me
And you turn your back
I’ll attack”

But when read properly it is obvious that the lyrics is meant to tell a scary story from the madmans perspective. Rob Halford plays the role of the infamous Jack the Ripper.

Und Kulle will endlich mal “Boogie for George” live hören.

Rev. Danny

Lovin’ ’til the morning, then I’m gone, I’m gone

I searched online for Myanmar metal stuff last night and found a forum. With great expectations, I clicked on the link.

What I found?

They were talking about… nu-metal??? Yes, nu-metal. Frigging hell mallcore stuff like Slipknot and Marilyn Manson. There were even people who mentioned Linkin Park and Flyleaf.

Seriously! There was nothing on it but mallcore. -.-

Next one was a blog. He was talking about Slipknot and how much he likes them and on another blog was an article on Myanmar metal scene and the author was talking about Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium. Frigging Metalcore.

EVERYTHING HERE IS JUST NU-METAL AND METALCORE????????????

-________-

Why can’t they just get out of this whole mallcore thing??? Why won’t they step deeper into the depths? WHY?????

There were even some people who said,”Slipknot is Death Metal”. Ya, go die. It pisses me off when I hear people saying crap like that.

Mallcore, Nu-metal, Metalcore, BFMV, A7X, Marilyn Manson, BMTH, blah blah blah and it goes on and on and on in a never finishing mallcore whirlpool. This is what’s happening in Myanmar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This should end.

Metal albums aren’t that rare anymore. You can pretty much buy them here. (Last week I got Black Sabbath:The Dio Years and Megadeth’s Endgame.) Or you can download them via Mediafire or 4shared (which I usually do).

Still people are still drowning in the mallcore whirlpool… labeling themselves “metalheads” with Slipknot songs in their mp3 players.

It’s time to ditch out mallcore people! Ditch it out and explore into the depths of Metal!

Compare it! Compare and listen! Compare Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Bring Me the Horizon, Atreyu (and whatever mallcore/metalcore/nu-metal stuff) to Iron Maiden, Death, Mayhem, Children Of Bodom, Judas Priest, (old) In Flames, Slayer, Dio, Black Sabbath, Kamelot, Gorgoroth, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Dark Tranquillity, Behemoth, Amon Amarth, Amorphis, Sonata Arctica, Opeth, Deicide, HammerFall, Moonspell, Venom, Testament, Morbid Angel, Candlemass, Exodus, My Dying Bride, Datkthrone, etc. Compare mallcore/nu-metal/metalcore to Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Progressive Metal, Power Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Blackened Death Metal, Traditional Heavy Metal, Symphonic Metal, Gothic Metal, etc. AND SEE THE DIFFERENCE!

Men OK, i Idol 2009 hade man lyckats pricka in två av världens näst sämsta låtar i kärlekstemat; To be with you av Mr. Big och Always med Bon Jovi.

Grupo: The Rolling Stones

Grupo: Judas Priest

Inspiracion: The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest’ de Bob Dylan

Grupo: The Pretenders

Inspiracion: The Great Pretender’ de Platters

Grupo: Jet

Inspiracion: ‘Jet’ de Paul McCartney and Wings

Los responsables de ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’ suenan a todo menos a Beatles.

Grupo: Godsmack

Inspiracion: God Smack’ de Alice in Chains

"Metal. The darkest, most brutal genre of all." Ahh, metal. Where would we be without you?

"Metal. The darkest, most brutal genre of all."

Ahh, metal. Where would we be without you? To be honest, metal has been a far more influential genre than a lot of people give it credit for, which is very surprising, considering how silly a genre it can be. At times, it’s multitude of subgenres can make it seem like it has identity issues too. Does it want to be brutal and hard to listen to, or does it want to be soaring and epic? Not to mention the break-off arms of the genre, like Industrial and 80s glam metal. Still, there seems to be a consensus around a group of fans as to what makes “true metal” and Gama Bomb seem to hit this, with a big dollop of fun.

Ok, so what should “true metal” have? For this, we look back to the 70s, and bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. Dark, fantastical themes, soaring vocals reaching into the giddy heights of falsetto, massive guitar distortion and a heavy bass presence all make metal the genre we recognise. Gama Bomb have all this in droves, and combine it all with the brutal speed of thrash.

One thing that turns a lot of people off metal is the perceived seriousness of it all. Metal is seen as a big, boys only club, where blood, death and destruction are discussed at eardrum destroying volume. Gama Bomb, on the other hand, are anything but serious (but may still break your eardrums). I could try and describe their brand of fun to you, but just let me give you a sample of their song titles, and some choice lyrics from them and let you work it out for yourself. It’s better this way, I promise:

New Eliminators of Atlantis B.C.: centurions/of a second breed/robots/powered by piston steam/

Three Witches: and now you’ve no balls/eyeballs that is

Escape From Scarecrow Mountain: come on honey/stop acting funny/let’s get romantic/ow!

Mussolini Mosh: the slippery slope to genocide/but we know your legs won’t let it slide

Return To Blood Castle: the lord of the manor’s been up to no good/and now he must pay

Now, tell me you can take this band seriously. Don’t worry if you can’t, I very much doubt they want to be taken seriously. This is an album of silly fun, playing on the stereotypical expectations of metal. Musically, it’s not amazing, but very little metal ever is. For instance, I’m pretty sure this whole album is in the same key, as there have been numerous times when I’ve not realised when one song ended and another began. Also, there’s not as much of the guitar virtuosity some other bands have either. Though it isn’t completely absent, as seen in songs such as Polterghost, for instance, it is a lot more subdued than hat you would get from power metal bands such as Dragonforce. The rest of the band seems to be there just to play bloody fast, and create a good mood to hold up the really enjoyable narratives of the vocals. If you love metal, you’ll love this album, so feel free to add a point to my score at the bottom of this review for yourselves, metalheads. If your not a metal fan, it’s still worth a look, even just for a good laugh at the sillyness of it all.

7/10

Standout tracks:

New Eliminators Of Atlantis B.C

Mummy Invasion

We Respect You

Biography

Marilyn Manson miss Daisy Berkowitz

The Long Hard Road Out of Hell ทำให้คนสงสัยว่าเขาได้ขายวิญญานและจิตใจให้แก Satan แล้วหรือ Mechanical Animals ที่เกิดในปี 1998 เป็น Tour ที่มีผลทำให้เขาเสื่อมความนิยมลงไป และ 1 ปีต่อมา เขาได้ทำ the live Last Tour on Earth โดยให้ชื่อว่า Jason Ankeny

Marilyn Manson paint Water colors Drawing

The Golden Age Of Grotesque

Ben Goins and Andrew Howard, Twisted Method

Yesterday was my birthday and it was celebrated mildly. The two high points were first Amber showing up unannoinced with a very nice chrysal vase. She knows I have a thing for all sorts chystal. It’s all over my house and I have a small fortune in antique German and pre world war 2 Czeck chrystal beads.

I didn’t ever think I’d be glad to see her again, but I was. We had dinner and she left. I’m suppossed to call her today but I kind of fear what may become of it. She lies and hurts me, but she holds a place in my heart no one else ever has. I don’t know what I’ll do.

Right now cheap ass Steel Reserve beer, 8.1% alcohol, and Judas Priest are filling my day. The other event of the night was me sparring with my Neighbor and his 20 year old guitar playing son. It was fun but I’m sore all over. I was quite drunk, so I don’t recall which one of them did it, but one of them layed a nasty kick to my knee and it doesn’t like moving too much today, but I know they have their wounds too, Ive also got a bruise across the top of my foot so I know I landed a very painfull shot on one of them.

Now two Priest songs, the first I’ll call Amber’s Love Bites, the second was a song I obsessed on after my now deceased friend broke my young heart. We almost put it back together last year, but Amber asked me to stop talking to her and I stupidly did and now she’s gone forever.

Enough of that I don’t want to think too much, the Fates and Furies do as they please, now those jams.

I’m sure the tunes can give you an idea of how old my birthday yesterday made me, but I often chop six or seven years off of it and never act my age. Time for another cheap beer.

Crowley”, do madman Ozzy Osbourne.

MySpace do Burn Down: http://www.myspace.com.br/burndownmetal

MySpace do Tempestt: http://www.myspace.com/tempesttbrasil

A partir daí, somente clássicos:

Believe (do último álbum solo de Ripper, Play My Game)

And… You Will Die (música da banda oficial do Ripper, Beyond Fear)

Starting Over (também do álbum solo, Play My Game)

The Green Manalish (outra do Judas Priest)

Flight of Icarus (Iron Maiden)

Symptom of the Universe (Black Sabbath)

Breaking the Law (Judas Priest)

Living After Midnight (Judas Priest)

"What is my name?" - RIPPER!

Why did he pick Nov. 21st? Who knows. Why listen to the album for 524 straight days to begin with?

Thank God he’s stopping though. No one should be listening to something that many times. Not even a good album.

And who has proof that he didn’t skip a day? Who was supervising his “record”? His dog Clarence?

But Bartek wants it to be known that he will still listen to the album (even though — c’mon — he could probably just hum the whole thing).

“Let it be known this does not mean “Nostradamus” will never be played again. I love this record. It will still get a couple of plays a week. How could anyone possibly get tired of a masterpiece? I may miss not playing it everyday but all great things must come to end.”

Yes. “Let it be known.” Proust had his one madeleine cookie. Bartek has an entire Judas Priest concept album.

Brutal Legend is the latest from one of the most recognizable developer names in the industry: Tim S

Brutal Legend is the latest from one of the most recognizable developer names in the industry: Tim Schafer. After creating several legendary titles for the likes of Lucasarts, Schafer started his own company, Double Fine. Their first game: Psychoanuts, the tale of a boy in a summer camp for psychic kids who saves the day when a lurking evil attacks the camp and its counselors. It is a well-crafted platformer, but really stood out in the areas of plot, character, level design, and overall concept execution. Schafer and co. packed Psychonauts full of memorable dialogue and kept the game play fresh (if not a little infuriating) at every turn. Though its sales weren’t huge, Psychonauts became one of the most talked-about titles of the last generation, even going so far as to be released as one of the earliest fully downloadable titles from Xbox Live.

Brutal Legend, the second game from Double Fine, is touted as a heavy metal epic, set in a world where everything, from the pseudo-RTS stage battles to the animals that roam the landscape, is inspired by the music genre. Once again, Schafer scores with an insane level of depth in world design. The term “fully realized” almost doesn’t do it justice. There are landmarks, the creation story, various factions of people, metal-inspired beasts, and so forth. One of the game’s greatest pleasures is just driving around in The Deuce (your car, also known as the Druid Plow), listening to “Kill the Orcs” by 3 Inches of Blood, and seeing the world that splays before you. Schafer captures all the epic excitement of metal without delving into kitsch or irony, and this is one of the game’s greatest accomplishments.

The down side is that, while the back story, characters, and world are all up to snuff, the rest of the game spread itself too thin. To be sure, this is a good game, but it’s not a great game. It borders on very good, but fall just shy. When you finish the all-to-short story mode (4-6 hours), you’ll wonder why this wasn’t the heavy metal Legend of Zelda adventure it seemed it was to become. There are other problems here, but, on the gameplay side of things, Brutal Legend falls short. Yes, you’ll have fun, but unless you’re here for the multiplayer, you’ll likely feel letdown.

The premise is this: Eddie Riggs, a roadie voiced by Jack Black, dies in an on-stage accident while saving a teeny-bopper metal band from disaster. Via the power of his Motorhead logo-esque belt buckle, he is transported to a world under siege. The human population is ultimately oppressed by emperor Doviculus (voiced by the always slimy Tim Curry) and a legion or two of other foes. Riggs, with the help of a bevy of fantastic characters voiced by the likes of metal greats Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy Killmeister, Lars Halford, and Lita Ford, will uncover the past of this world while setting themselves and their troops free. It’s a simple and compelling story and it’s a shame it’s not longer. There are three major stages to the game and there is literally no working up to the final battle after defeating the second major army. The narrative just skips to the third act. In its favor, though, are plenty of humorous, quotable moments with Riggs and co. that are pure Schafer that anyone can appreciate. After playing the game, the word “decapitation” will take on a new resonance.

Brutal Legend features several major types of gameplay: action/beat’em up, driving and racing, and an action/real time strategy combination, which is the crux of the major battles in the game. These all work well-enough, though they’re nothing revelatory. When these gameplay elements are used in relation to the main story, they work well, whether you’re in The Deuce and escorting your tour bus to the next location or taking on the next faction of baddies with your army, Ironheade. The RTS controls feel a little broad, and some more preciseness would have been nice, but once the game has thrown out a few battles, it’s a comfortable and fun experience. The difference here is that, as the leader of your army, you fight in battle as well and utilize special double team attacks with each of your factions to take down enemy troops and ultimately destroy their stage. Rather than typical RTS resources like money and building materials, you battle for control of fan geysers, and then spend the resulting deluge of fans on troops.

In multiplayer, each of the three factions varies and has their own strengths, making for a different experience with each army. Schafer’s humor and design really shines during not only the cut-scenes, but in the action/RTS segments, as well. Schafer has said that the game was originally designed as a pure RTS, and it’s not surprising. This element of the game play is the most fully developed.

As for powering up Eddie, there are a number of side missions to engage in, from racing an ugly demon, to ambushing bad guys, to hunting down the metal beasts of the land. Unfortunately, this is where the game takes a nose dive. The side missions are almost entirely repetitive and turn tedious after a few repetitions. What’s worse is that they are only loosely tied to the main narrative and do nothing to advance the story or the lore of the main game, as the best side missions do in games like Fallout 3. Its here that one of the game’s biggest stumbling blocks occur. The other major problem is that the game doesn’t fully train the player to accomplish certain major tasks that aren’t always essential, but sometimes they are, as with a few of the major battles. You’re just suddenly expected to know to take down a tower or target a certain position with the game only giving slight hints, or directly telling you via a ribbon of text at the bottom of the screen that you’re supposed to be reading mid-battle. Not so efficient. Other power-up quests are mostly search-and-find quests for various metal-related items. Searching for all 120 bound serpents gets pretty tedious.

There are other problems that could be addressed, but they are small, and the bulk of the problems with Brutal Legend seem to lie in that it spread itself too thin on the game play and story length in favor of sculpting an amazing world. Brutal Legend is a very welcome and unique experience and is definitely worth a play through and some time spent in the multiplayer. It’s just a shame Schafer didn’t go with the other half of his strength in crafting a memorable and touching narrative. Brutal Legend contains elements of all the things Schafer does so well, but it sacrificed story and game play for multiplayer and world design. It’s far from being bad, but it’s short of being great.

To re-cap and add a few small things:

-positive
-fully-realized and highly detailed world
-creation story behind the world is a compelling compendium of metal-based twistings of traditional creation stories
-varied factions for multi-player. Each very enjoyable to learn and use strengths.
-creative maps
-strong story
-killer voice acting
-sincere, yet fun, tribute to metal
-nice mix of multiple game styles: action, RTS, driving. Doesn’t quite reach its potential in any, though. Comes closest in RTS.

-Negative
-very short campaign mode
-game doesn’t do a good job of training you on some essential actions, both for side quests and main battles. Story mode feels like a training ground for multiplayer.
-side quests are repetitive and can become tedious.
