Juergen Teller  ha sabido traducir la esencia Marc Jacobs en sus fotografías. No en vano ha realizado las campañas de la firma desde hace diez años, siempre agregando un elemento fresco, tan característico de MJ.

Para la temporada de Primavera-Verano 2010, Teller presenta como siempre algo inesperado: la imagen de Jamie Bochert con un etéreo vestido blanco de volantes de pie en un inodoro. Bueno, ya logró entrar de cabeza a Victoria Beckam dentro de una bolsa gigante de MJ, ¿Por qué sorprendernos?

Ya queremos ver el resto de la campaña para ver la secuela de esto.

Se lembrando de Dakota Fanning fazendo sucesso bem criancinha e vendo ela num editorial da Teen Vogue como a “garota do momento” eu me surpreendi muito. Ela cresceu e ficou bonitona muito rápido!

Emilio Pucci’s latest ads benefit wholly from the photographic talent of controversial Juergen Teller and from the presence of graceful, captivating Italian model, Mariacarla Boscono. Seen here dressed in luxurious psychedelic geometric prints pulling her best upclass poses but not in the bland, obnoxious sense.

Acho ele ótimo em tudo que faz, adoro tudo que vem dele, até todas as campanhas publicitárias, todas! As propagandas têm sempre o mesmo estilo básico, mas a cada temporada a nova campanha não deixa de ser interessante. Chama muito mais a atenção uma página em branco com o nome da marca (leis da Gestalt, galera) e na outra página a foto de divulgação da coleção.
O fotógrafo que trabalha para Marc Jacobs há 11 anos é o Juergen Teller. De tantos trabalhos feitos juntos ele chegou a lançar um livro neste ano (sei que isso não é novidade, ok) com as propagandas feitas para Marc by Marc Jacobs e para Marc Jacobs.

I got the chance to meet Juergen Teller at Cafe de Flore during Paris fashion week…an interesting man he is. He is normally seen wearing trainers, running shorts and a blazer but his photography for the Fall/Winter 09/10 Self Service magazine is alluring with his use of colour and contrast. One of the shoots takes place in a castle in Germany with 500 rooms, but they could only manage to take photos in 100 of them. Make sure you check the magazine out!

Nascido em Bogotá, na Colômbia, o fotógrafo Guillermo Riveros tem feito cada vez mais sucesso agora que mora em Nova Iorque. Ele é o objeto de todo o seu trabalho, encarnando vários personagens em fotos muito provocativas e irônicas. Em suas respostas, ele fez referências à artistas de todo o tipo – ótima oportunidade para conhecer coisas novas.

Como a cidade mudou você e seu trabalho?

Nova Iorque tem uma grande influencia em mim. Ela tem um ritmo que mudou meu processo criativo. A cidade é também extremamente vibrante e cheia de pessoas diferentes, o que é inspirador para quem cria personagens. A facilidade para achar certos materiais também influenciou meu trabalho. Na Colômbia as coisas são complicadas de arranjar e você não pode simplesmente sair na rua e começar a tirar fotos, enquanto existem menos limites em Nova Iorque.

Que outros fotógrafos você admira?

Eu admiro muitos outros artistas, como Juergen Teller, Anthony Goicolea, Cindy Sherman, John Bidgood, Slava Mogutin, Nikki S. Lee e Claude Cahun. E eu amo a atitude punk de Bruce LaBruce e seu senso de humor. Ele tem uma mente única, é um rebelde intelectual. Ele influenciou muito minhas idéias sobre pornografia e arte com um zine chamado “J. D’s”, nos anos 80, que falava sobre música gay e continha desenhos lésbicos de G. B. Jones. Ele queria antagonizar as subculturas gays do movimento punk. Por isso ele teve muita influencia sobre mim desde que comecei a trabalhar com tudo isso. Eu tenho pensado nele ultimamente e como seu trabalho reflete nos nossos dias de internet. Desde filmes pornôs feitos em casa até perfis pornográficos no Facebook, Flickr, MySpace e outras plataformas desse tipo, onde a identidade gay é produzida e reproduzida. Até a “autopornografia” abre discussões sobre exposição e observação num mundo virtual, onde o limite de privado e público é invisível.

E filmes ou livros, o que influencia seu trabalho?

Essa é uma pergunta difícil. Acima de todos, meu livro e filme favorito é “O Exorcista”. Depois dele penso em diretores como Pedro Almodovar, David Lynch e John Waters. E também em autores como Michel Foucault e Judith Butler. Atualmente estou lendo “Visions of Excess”, de Georges Bataille [uma coletânea de crônicas], e “The Power of Horror”, de Julia Kristeva [um ensaio sobre a visão de Freud e Lacan sobre marginalização].

É verdade que você está trabalhando em novos sets, que serão mais baratos?

Sim, pensando na situação econômica eu quis fazer impressões menores por preços mais acessíveis para fazer meu trabalho alcançar mais gente. Se alguém estiver interessado, basta se juntar ao mailing que logo novidades vão aparecer por lá.

Não dá pra adiantar nada?

São imagens da série “Sigh Oh Nara!” [fotos dele tiradas no Japão], versões alternativas delas em tamanhos menores…

Você já veio ao Brasil ou tem alguma imagem formada do país?

Eu nunca estive no Brasil, mas adoraria. Existem muita coisas no Brasil que amo, como meus amigos e música – eu ouço Marisa Monte e Fernanda Abreu desde que eu sou criança. Há também a língua, a música me fez querer aprender português – o que não deve ser muito difícil por parecer bastante com espanhol. E eu amo comida brasileira, eu poderia comer muqueca e brigadeiro todo dia!

Ces slogans datent de 1983. A l’époque, ils étaient révolutionnaires parce qu’ils étaient l’oeuvre d’une créatrice anglaise reconnue et talentueuse, issue d’une formation prestigieuse, la Central Saint Martins College, qui voulait prendre le contre-pied des tendances de mode. 

Katharine Hamnett tient autant de Vivienne Westwood que de Stella McCartney, dans le sens qu’elle est une anti-conformiste, qui a, bien avant la vague verte des années 2000, défendu le coton bio. Elle s’est intéressée aux méthodes de fabrication des vêtements et a pris le parti de construire une marque conforme à sa vision. Ses campagnes iconoclastes nées de la collaboration avec Ellen von Unwerth, Juergen Teller et Terry Richardson ne laissent pas indifférent.

Katharine Hamnett incarne la créatrice indépendante qui n’a pas cherché l’appui d’un grand groupe au contraire de Stella McCartney avec PPR et Ali Hewson d’Edun avec LVMH. Celle qui abandonne le système de licences et se consacre à un projet de A à Z sans oublier d’apporter son soutien à des causes politiques et sociales. Je ne sais pas quel calcul est le plus avisé, entre idéalisme et pragmatisme, entre entreprise visionnaire et orientation marketing. Les visionnaires sont peu nombreux à réussir, c’est vrai, mais ils changent le monde.

Ever since my wife introduced me to his photography 5 years ago, I have been obsessed with his work. And I think a part of the appeal was in Teller’s ability to produce work that can is admired from a commercial point of view e.g. his Marc Jacob advertising campaigns and also at the same time from a artistic point of view. Ultimately there’s a thin line between the two for him because over the years he’s been able to gain the trust of commercial partners such as Marc Jacobs to produce breakthrough work on a commercial platform. Every time I see a new campaign that he’s been involved in I am stunned. He doesn’t pretend to layer his work with conspicuous sophistication nor does he need to. His photography is striking from the get go.

On the 12th September Juergen Teller was invited for a conversation with Cathy Horyn of The New York Times at the School of Visual Arts NYC. Check out the video.

Juergen Teller’s photography is rather ubiquitous. Because of his photos are featured in so many designer campaigns–Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood–it’s almost impossible to open a fashion magazine without spotting his work. What interests me about his photography (and why I chose him in particular) is just how striking it is. He focuses mainly on portraiture (especially for his fashion work) and he deals with it very bold, straight-forward way. There is a sense of humor in most of his work, but he uses it almost sinisterly, sometimes to th

e point that the photos become uncomfortable to look at. The idea of shock value is present in almost everything that he does. Particularly his use of nudity, which is used rather abrasively rather than naturally (he often photographs nude woman against a backdrop of a public setting, or vulgarly in bed, or dramatically against blank white). But, at the same time, it is never sexualized. He has been called a “merciless” photographer because he never sets out to beautiful the model. His shocking subject matter is often coupled with the use of harsh white lighting against a white backdrop. A lot of the time, his photos are over-exposed, allowing for the models skin to become the exact shade of pale as the background. This also creates a very muted color for his work though, which I think has a calming effect, allowing the photos to be viewable. The blurring of the lines between commercialism and art, between beauty and humor and discomfort, allows for him to make much social commentary with his work, as he seems to be trying to expose the sort of seediness that rests behind the fashion world.

Well, not a frenzy exactly. This week I got the September issue of Pop magazine and the latest issue of AnOther magazine.

Before I used to get a lot of magazines all of the time, because it is one of my habits, but now I am more selective. I don´t know where to keep all of my old issues, so this is why I have to be more careful, and the money spent on magazines can be spent of clothes or something more useful. But I just love, love, love glossy magazines. Anyway, Pop interested me because it featured Ed Ruscha, Juergen Teller and Tavi amongst other things. When I first read Tavi´s blog, I did not know she was that famous. I found it by a chance, and thought she was very talented and inspirational, but I soon realised that she has a lot of followers and I was late to the party. AnOther magazine I had to have, and it included lots of nice photos of people I like, and interesting articles. Though I have not read it yet, just skimmed through it.

When I took a first look, I noticed a photo of Sofia Coppola, whom I adore. Great, I though, let´s scan it and post it to I heart Sofia, and the Sofia thread at TFS. Ofcourse it was posted already, which I realised way too late. Since I took the trouble to do the scanning, I might as well post it here because it is a lovely photo of her, in my opinion of course.

I’ve been a fan of Harmony’s work for years — and it looks like he’s done it again, given this lo-fi freakfest of a trailer. And early reviews of the film are positive. Variety writes,  “Trash Humpers is a pre-fab underground manifesto to rank beside John Waters’ legendarily crass Pink Flamingos. … The result, riveting beyond all rationality, is something like Jackass, except that here the stunts are dangerous only to standards of good taste — which, of course, is precisely the point.”

Sounds awesome, albeit, a bit like Gummo: Part II.

What do you think of Men’s Vogue banning this Marc Jacobs ad? It features two guys kissing and was shooted by Juergen Teller, as usual.

Men’s Vogue (EE.UU.) no ha querido publicar la nueva campaña masculina de Marc Jacobs para el otoño, fotografiada, como de costumbre, por Juergen Teller.  Teller ha declarado que sólo pretendía ofrecer imágenes románticas y tiernas, y que le parece mucho más agresiva la campaña con una Dakota Fanning de 12 años (la cual yo uso como avatar)  que todo el mundo pubicó sin poner pegas en 2007. Opinen, por favor.

FOI CENSURADA.

O fotógrafo explicou o trabalho como sendo romântico e delicado, e que sendo assim faria total sentido em uma campanha masculina ter a imagem de um casal gay, e que sua idéia não era de ser provocante.

Vamos combinar que é Juergen Teller, Marc Jacobs e Vogue…esse tipo de pensamento tacanho nos pega completamente de surpresa considerando os três ícones que sempre quebraram paradigmas, ter uma imagem não autorizada para uma publicação.

O famoso fotógrafo Juergen Teller fotografou milhares de campanhas para Marc Jacobs ao longo dos anos.

Uma das mais polêmicas foi a campanha de inverno 2007 com Dakota Fanning, na época com 12 anos de idade . Teller disse que estava na beira de ser demais, mesmo para ele.

Causou surpresa ao saber que as fotos polêmicas de Dakota causaram menos controvérsia que as de um casal gay em cenas de romantismo apenas.

Disse: ” Muito engraçado saber que a maioria das queixas eram sobre as séries de fotos com Dick Page e James Gibbs porque eles são um casal gay. A revista Men’s Vogue simplesmente se recusou a publicar.

Dick é um amigo muito próximo e eu o conheço a 20 anos – e ele tem sido parte da família de Marc a 20 anos também. E eu gosto da idéia de ter um casal gay masculino em uma revista masculina porque acredito fazer sentido isso. E eu quis a campanha desta forma porque eu os acho muito românticos, comprometidos e gentis. Eu certamente não queria que houvesse nada provocativo de forma alguma.”

Quando uma revista de moda fashion masculina se torna homofóbica o que podemos esperar das outras?

As vendas da Men’s Vogue caíram pela metade, eles tiveram o troco. Já diz o ditado: “Aqui se faz, aqui se paga”.

Remember the guy who used to be everyone’s favorite? Yes, MARC JACOBS!

I was so excited to read that every MJ and Juergen Teller ad from 1998 – 2009 was compiled to make a Marc Jacobs super book.  What a relief, because I was so disappointed when I bought the MJ book published by Assouline.  How exciting to see pages filled with old Jessica Stam, Kim Gordon, Winona Ryder, Rachel Feinstein, and every cool girl we want to be best friends with.  I have most of these ads saved from old magazines but I am so happy to finally own the book I’ve been asking for.
