Meet Megan Lewis – Firespinner and Juggler

Megan has been juggling and firespinning for about two years now.  She joined the Purple Mermaid Circus Society as a “fresher” at the University of Birmingham. The Society is made up of students and residents of Birmingham, UK who have an interest in learning, practicing and performing circus skills.

Exactly WHAT is firespinning?  Firespinning is pretty much exactly what it sounds like – spinning fire! You use either poi (two wicks on the end of a length of chain held in each hand) or a staff with a wick on either end. The wick is soaked in paraffin and set on fire. You then spin your staff or poi to create fantastic visual displays. 

One of our members also makes fire frisbees. They’re basically just juggling hoops with a wick suspended in the centre. They’re not quite as dangerous as they sound and are a lot of fun once you get the hang of catching them!  

Firespinning

Do you wear a costume when firespinning?  We’re not usually in costume; firespinning ruins clothes far too easily for that! Some people have nicknames that they put on their circus shirts or hoodies, but that’s really just a society thing. They’re often related to any committee positions a person holds – the person in charge of the equipment is known as the “Ball Holder,” the treasurer is “Embezzler.”  When I was the Society president, I was referred to as “Ring Leader.”

O.K., now that you have survived firespinning, how about we look at something a little less dangerous. I have always wanted to learn how to juggle, and I didn’t know of anywhere in my home town where I could learn. Prior to going to the uni, I did some research to learn what societies were available.  As soon as I saw that there was a circus society, I knew that I had to join!

I personally can juggle only three balls or clubs at the moment, but we have members who can successfully juggle up to six or seven.

I am pretty certain that you don’t juggle and firespin in your house, so where DO you practice?  We have weekly meetings at university where we can practice whatever circus skill we wish, maybe learn something new and have a drink in the bar afterwards. We take safety very seriously though – no firespinning whilst under the influence!

And once you are done practicing… The society gets hired regularly to spin and juggle for university events; we are usually the half time show at the American Football matches!  We also do a lot of “goodwill gigs” for fundraising and charity events. I was the president last year which included organizing Ballring, our annual circus convention that we hold at the university. This included games, workshops and both amateur and professional shows. We’ve also had a team on the UK quiz show, “Eggheads.” We didn’t win anything, but it was so much fun.

Your other hobby is customizing “My Little Ponies.”  Please explain. “My Little Ponies” are children’s toys that were first popular in the 1980s. They’ve enjoyed a recent revival though, with Hasbro redesigning and re-launching the brand. I really enjoy customizing them when I have the time and usually take commissions for particular designs.  This includes changing their hair, painting them and sculpting additional parts such as wings or tails.

Have you always been creative?  I have always loved creating things. When I was a child, we were allowed to draw on the walls of our playroom and encouraged to do things like play with clay and paints. By the time I was in high school, I drew almost non-stop. I ended up doing a one-year art course at college, followed by a year of a Jewelry and Silversmithing degree. When I felt that I could no longer continue in such a structured environment where everything I made had to have some kind of meaning, I switched to an Ancient History major and started making jewelry for my own pleasure. When it became apparent that other people like what I was creating, I decided to open Eirel and turn my hobby into a business.

Once I graduate I’m planning on looking for a career in book publishing. I’m a compulsive reader and find the industry a fascinating one! Of course, I’ll keep the jewelry going. Who knows, one day I may manage to give up my day job!

It’s been a busy week and a fun one too! Unfortunately i’ve not been able to get pictures, since i was busy performing. Briefly i conducted a few birthday parties and was also at Yishun Bottle Tree Park for a family day.

One of the parties that i hosted was a Hannah Montana party yet again! You might have recalled my blogging about the last Hannah Montana party, but this time round there were new Hannah Montana games and it was a blast. The birthday girl Tiera was pretty shy, but i think she enjoyed herself tremendously as did I!

She also received a poster from me after we played the games! Tiera’s grandmother revealed to me that Tiera had actually attended a disco party but did not like it – hence her’s was a rock themed party. I was really glad that she enjoyed herself!

Recently especially since i have had so many request, i have developed my own set of Hannah Montana games and they seem to be serving me pretty well.

I’ve got some exciting news coming up soon so keep a lookout!

I think I’ve mentioned that my headform is named Marla.

Marla has cheered me up through my slow confrontations with the truth. She deserves fresh looks and so this morning, while I was supposed to be working I gave into an impulse to hit the thrift store. I found a nice afro wig and it looks smashing on Marla.

She has a certain gravitas here, no? In that, she reflects the philosophical tendencies of her creator.

I have been pondering the push and pull of the disparate elements of my big fat yod. Here are the results.

Expect the unexpected. Roll with the punches and surf the cha cha changes. Understand that everything about my life is a free form performance and, despite my efforts to nail it into place, ever shall it be.

Oh, how I have tortured myself. How long have I waiting to become settled into a groove? How greatly have I longed for everything to lock into place, to finally get it, to have arrived at the peak of the mountain from which I can clearly glimpse my destiny?

Nuh uh! Not going to happen. It’s always going to be a smorgasbord of improvisation. I am tasked with occasionally bringing something into focus from the vague or confusing shouts from the audience of synchronicity.

I do have Gemini rising and have learned to juggle pretty well by now. For the fleeting periods of calm focus I am thankful. Now roll, Jojo.

Talvez alguns não saibam, mas existem vários métodos de sedução, cada um com uma teoria diferente da outra.
Pode ser que você não se adapte muito bem ao Mystery Method, e pode escolher algum outro método, como a SpeedSeduction, Juggler Method, Double Your Dating, SwinggCat, entre outros. Nesse post vou explicar cada método, e você escolhe ao que melhor se adaptar.




Mystery Method

O Mystery Method é um método de sedução popularizado por Erik von Markovik, vulgo ‘Mystery’, e uma equipe de aproximadamente 15 instrutores profissionais do Mystery Method. O Mystery Method Corporation, agora conhecido como Love Systems, publicou o livro chamado The Mystery Method: How to get Beautiful Women into bed em 2006.

O Mystery é o maior PUA do mundo, mas não é um cara fora do normal, um dia ele já foi um nerd e jogador de RPG, sem contar que só perdeu a virgindade aos 21 anos.

O Mystery Method é praticamente a base de tudo na sedução atual e é o método mais utilizado no mundo Pick-Up. O método é baseado na aproximação indireta, ignorando o “alvo” (a mulher que você quer), jogando negs (coisas que você fala para abaixar a auto-estima da mulher) e demonstrando valor superior. O processo inteiro (desde a abordagem até levar a mulher para a cama) é dividido em três fases: Atração, Conforto e Sedução.

Essas três fases são divididas em mais três: Atração (A1, A2, A3), Conforto (C1, C2, C3), Sedução (S1, S2, S3).

A1 – Abertura
A2 – Interesse da mulher para o homem
A3 – Interesse do homem para a mulher

C1 – Conversação
C2 – Conexão
C3 – Intimidade

S1 – Preliminares
S2 – RUM (Resistência de Último Minuto)
S3 – Sexo

Em A1, tudo o que você precisa é abrir o grupo de mulheres, e o jeito mais usado é com o opener de opinião. Opener, como o nome diz, é um abridor para a interação com a mulher.

Em A2, você escolhe o alvo e passa a dar atenção aos obstáculos (as outras mulheres no grupo), não dá atenção ao alvo e joga negs, para abaixar a auto-estima dela.

Em A3, ela já estará interessada por você, então ela tem que investir na relação. Ela começará a demonstrar que tem um valor superior, se qualificando para você. É nesse ponto que você começa a dar sinais de que está interessado nela, os famosos Indicadores de Interesse (IDI).

Em C1, você e o alvo começam a conversar mais intimamente e cresce a sensação de conforto e conexão.

Em C2, ambas as partes têm a sensação de que há algo acontecendo. Há uma conexão, vocês se beijam, essa fase pode durar vários encontros, várias horas.

Em C3, vocês vão para o lugar onde ocorre a sedução (provavelmente a sua casa), os beijos quentes fazem com que vocês vão até o seu quarto.

Em S1, vocês começam a escalação física para o sexo. Se isso acontecer muito cedo, pode causar a resistência de último minuto (RUM).

Em S2, é o ponto sem volta antes do sexo acontecer, normalmente é um momento de muita tensão para a mulher.

Em S3, é onde o sexo acontece. Se você quiser que isso se repita, se quiser um relacionamento duradouro, é necessário que isso aconteça várias vezes.

De uma maneira muuuito resumida, é isso.




SpeedSeduction

Na década de 1980, ao lado de R. Don Steele, outro guru do romance começou a vender seus conselhos amorosos e se tornou um profissional do ofício. O nome dele é Ross Jeffries, conhecido mundialmente por sua técnica do “Speed Seduction”, que, segundo ele, é uma estratégia eficiente, totalmente diferente de qualquer outra que existe no mercado.

Jeffries, nascido em Los Angeles, na Califórnia, no ano de 1958, teve diversos empregos, incluindo assistente de marketing e redator de comédia. Mas sua vida mudou quando leu o livro “Frogs into Princes: Neuro Linguistic Programming”, de Richard Bandler e John Grinder. A partir daí, Jeffries se tornou obcecado com a programação neurolingüística e dedicou seus dias ao estudo desta ciência.

A programação neurolingüística é um modelo de comunicação interpessoal baseado no estudo subjetivo da língua, comunicação e mudança pessoal. Bandler e Grinder realizaram o estudo para descobrir e desvendar os padrões sucessivos de comportamento de três psicoterapeutas renomados e distingui-los de outras pessoas menos brilhantes.

Logo, Jeffries resolveu unir sua nova paixão pela ciência da programação à sua dificuldade de interagir com mulheres desconhecidas. Daí surgiu a “Speed Seduction”, uma técnica criada para reformular sua vida amorosa e ajudar outros homens com a mesma dificuldade em conhecer mulheres.

Ross Jeffries

A “Speed Seduction” tem o objetivo de ajudar os homens a entenderem as mulheres, suas motivações e sua psicologia. Ela consiste na idéia de que as pessoas sentem as emoções contidas em uma estória ou em um padrão lingüístico. E através da utilização de palavras com ambigüidade fonética, as mulheres podem ser colocadas em um estado de provocação sexual.

A importância de Jeffries na criação da comunidade da sedução é imensa. Seu primeiro livro,”How to Get the Women You Desire Into Bed”, gerou grande repercussão e originou uma série de comunidades de discussão, que trocavam idéias sobre a obra de Jeffries e ainda servia para troca de conselhos de relacionamentos.

Jeffries também é muito respeitado na comunidade. Muitos dos maiores PUAs, os grandes especialistas amorosos do mundo, como David DeAngelo e Neil Strauss, foram seus alunos.

Ainda existem boatos de que Frank T. J. Mackey, o personagem interpretado por Tom Cruise no filme “Magnólia”, de Paul Thomas Anderson, foi baseado em Jeffries.

Double Your Dating

Durante grande parte das décadas de 1980 e 1990, Ross Jeffries , com sua “Speed Seduction ” foi o principal especialista amoroso do mundo. Porém, a partir do final dos anos 90, outros gurus da sedução começaram a elaborar suas teorias e dividiram a luz do holofote com Jeffries. David DeAngelo , pupilo de Jeffries, foi um dos principais nomes desta época.

David DeAngelo

Eben W. Pagan , conhecido pelo nome artístico David DeAngelo , é um dos PUAs mais influentes da comunidade da sedução , e também é fundador da “Double Your Dating ” , companhia que funciona através da internet, fornecendo dicas para homens de histórico amoroso fracassado.

DeAngelo já trabalhou como corretor de imóveis, mas foi no campo de dicas amorosas que realmente se interessou. Para desenvolver sua habilidade de conquistar mulheres desconhecidas, ele buscou conselhos de estudiosos das técnicas hipnóticas e da programação neurolinguística, elemento característico da obra de Jeffries.

Em 2000, por razões ainda misteriosas ao público, DeAngelo rompeu relações com Jeffries e iniciou uma nova etapa em sua carreira, com sua própria visão e novos conceitos. Desde então lançou diversos produtos com o seu nome, se tornando um dos principais nomes da comunidade da sedução.

O que DeAngelo prega em seus ensinos é que o comportamento social humano se assemelha ao comportamento de outras espécies. E segundo DeAngelo, as mulheres são atraídas pelo comportamento do homem, enquanto homens se interessam principalmente pela aparência das mulheres.

Os métodos de sedução elaborados pelo autor costumam se mostrar eficientes, independente da aparência física do homem que os utiliza.

A principal ferramenta da técnica de DeAngelo é conhecida como “Cocky Comedy” , uma combinação de humor e arrogância na hora de flertar. O autor acredita que este recurso pode indicar inteligência e até ser considerado um desafio para as mulheres. Mas é necessário equilibrar os dois lados: quando o humor ou a arrogância atuam sozinhos, não conseguem dar conta do trabalho.

Juggler Method

Wayne Elise, também conhecido como Juggler , é um dos nomes mais confiáveis e respeitados da sociedade dos “PUA” . O guru da sedução  é conhecido mundialmente por ter fundado uma das maiores empresas do ramo, a “Charisma Arts ” , por ensinar a “ciência do carisma” e por apoiar uma conduta mais natural de aproximação, que o diferencia da maioria dos técnicos da sedução.

Elise recebeu o apelido de “Juggler” porque passou grande parte da sua vida trabalhando como malabarista de rua, o que o ajudou em muito a construir uma personalidade carismática que serviu como base de sua futura profissão.

Já na profissão de conselheiro da sedução , Juggler foi o segundo guru – depois de Mystery – da história da comunidade da sedução a promover oficinas para homens que buscam melhorar suas habilidades com mulheres . Nas oficinas, os homens são encorajados a fazer contato com mulheres desconhecidas e, após tentativas, na maioria, fracassadas, seus desempenhos são avaliados pelos ténicos da sedução, que fazem críticas construtivas.

Juggler se diferencia da maioria dos “PUA” pois acredita numa conduta mais natural de aproximação. Ele não quer saber de cantadas e atitudes pré-programas e ensaiadas. Para conquistar uma mulher , Juggler diz que o homem precisa ser ele mesmo nas mais diversas situações. Assim, existe a grande possibilidade de haver uma conexão genuína entre as duas pessoas e um maior entendimento do mundo feminino.

Os serviços de Juggler não são requisitados apenas no mundo da sedução . Diversos profissionais da indústria do entretenimento, como comediantes, músicos e apresentadores de programas de auditório buscam os serviços de Juggler para aprimorarem suas habilidades de conexão com a platéia.

Juggler também é personagem do livro “O Jogo: A Bíbila da Sedução ” , de Neil Strauss , e ainda escreveu um capítulo, onde ressalta a importância do “seja você mesmo” . Segundo ele, a autoconfiança é a coisa mais sexy que alguém pode exibir ao sexo oposto. Em 2006, Juggler apresentou o programa “Seduction School” , da BBC.

Para SwinggCat, o comportamento masculino tem de ser modificado: homens não podem mais correr atrás das mulheres. (Nota MundoPUA: o livro do SwinggCat se chama ‘Real World Seduction‘)

Os seguidores de SwinggCat, um dos PUAs mais polêmicos da atualidade, não correm atrás das mulheres que desejam e se concentram exclusivamente no processo de auto valorização. Para este guru da sedução, as mulheres não devem ser colocadas em pedestais. Agora, os homens acumulam valor e se tornam uma espécie de prêmio, potencial alvo de consumo para as mulheres.

SwinggCat estudou muito o trabalho de Ross Jeffries, um dos pioneiros da comunidade da sedução, quando iniciou sua jornada no mundo do pick-up. Mas em pouco tempo, construiu seus próprios mecanismos de atração e se tornou um dos mais famosos PUAs da atualidade.

A questão do valor tem grande importância na obra de Swinggcat. Para ele, as mulheres sempre admiram seus parceiros, na maioria das vezes, por algum traço de sua personalidade. E se o homem começar a idolatrar a mulher e colocá-la num pedestal, logo, ela vai perceber que está no comando. A partir daí, a mulher vai sentir que sua relação perdeu a graça e vai buscar alguém mais competitivo.

Para aumentar o valor do homem, são necessárias qualidades. Com elas, o homem se torna uma espécie de prêmio para as mulheres. SwinggCat acredita que quanto mais virtudes o homem tiver a seu favor, maior será o seu possível nível de atração. Estas virtudes podem ser financeiras, realizações, fluência em diferentes idiomas e até lugares para os quais o homem já viajou.

E se você quer seguir os ensinamentos de SwinggCat, além de parar de correr atrás de mulheres, também vai ter de parar de elogiá-las. A maioria dos homens elogia a mulher que deseja. SwinggCat recomenda que seu aluno não faça o mesmo. Para ele, quanto mais bela for a mulher, menos o homem deve elogiá-la. Assim, é criado um elevado nível de tensão e atração.

Go ahead. Laugh. Your health may depend upon it. People need to laugh more, especially when one considers the state of the world today. Flip through the channels on the television, listen to the radio while driving your car, surf the internet and you will be sure to hear stories of fighting in the Middle East, a kidnapped child, or the horrible economic state of the world. Hearing the news can raise stress levels and create havoc in a person’s immune system. Daily living also takes its toll on the body and its immune system. Working, maintaining healthy relationships, carpooling, running errands, taking care of your family, and cleaning your house can wear a person ragged. The antidote ? A good, healthy laugh. The importance of laughter is becoming more and more recognized as doctors and scientists perform more studies linking laughter to increased health and vitality. It is more important than ever in today’s stress filled society to have a good laugh. The health benefits of laughter are numerous.

A person who laughs will have a stronger immune system. Laughing strengthens your bodies’ defenses against invading germs and bacteria. A person who laughs frequently will experience less colds and other viruses than his or her non-laughing counterpart. And if a person who laughs often does become ill, the duration of the sickness is shorter. So go ahead and laugh more; it will keep sicknesses at bay.

Dr. Miller with the University of Maryland recommends “that you try to laugh on a regular basis.” Dr. Miller and others from the University of Maryland performed an experiment that clearly links laughter and the healthy widening of blood vessels. In this study, some participants watched a movie that made them laugh and others watched a stressful movie. The participants who laughed experienced increased blood flow through their veins. Conversely, the people who watched the non-laughing movie had a decreased flow of blood through their constricted veins. According to the study, laughing often could result in fewer heart attacks and strokes.

Laughing will make you feel good. When we laugh, powerful chemicals called endorphins are produced and released into our bodies. Endorphins are natural morphine-like compounds that block pain, both physical and mental. If you’re looking for a safe, healthy high, laughter may be your answer.

If you are experiencing lethargy or depression, laughing just may be what the doctor orders. Coffee and energy drinks may create an artificial boost in energy levels and feelings of elation, however, this effect is temporary and detrimental to your body and spirit.
