Pra não dizer que mulheres não são boas, estou fazendo a versão feminina da minha lista “Os 10 melhores atores“. Como já disse, melhor não quer dizer “mais bonita”, então não fiquem achando que vão aparecer gatonas aqui – claro que algumas são realmente bonitas, mas nem todas.

10 – Evanna Lynch. Essa mocinha é muito interessante, ao meu ver. Saindo de apenas uma garotinha estranha que adorava Harry Potter para uma atriz estranha que adora Harry Potter e que interpreta uma personagem estranha em Harry Potter, Evanna mostrou todo o seu talento como atriz atuando como a digníssima Luna Lovegood, em Harry Potter e a Ordem da Fênix, e em Harry Potter e o Enigma do Príncipe. Tendo um rosto exótico e uma beleza única, Evanna cativou milhões de espectadores – pelo menos EU – com seu jeitinho meigo e carismático.

9 – Julia Stiles. Adoro essa garota. A primeira vez que a vi foi no super conhecido “10 Coisas que odeio em você”, com o perfeito – que Deus o tenha – Heath Ledger. Ela tem um jeito de atuar tão singelo e único, e ela tem uma expressão tão perfeita que você se sente no lugar dela em quase todos os papéis que a mocinha interpreta. Sim, eu tiro meu chapéu para Julia Stiles.

8 – Maggie Smith.  Desde que assiti “O Jardim Secreto” amo essa senhora. Muito boa atriz, impressiona com seus trejeitos, sua expressão decidida, seus papéis sempre são firmes e, na minha opinião, ela os executa com precisão e vontade. Ficou mundialmente famosa como a Professora Mcgonagal, de – onde, mesmo? – Harry Potter, e, como em todos os seus papéis, mostrou que pode ser a melhor, mesmo num papel tão simples.

7 – Meryl Streep. Uma mulher que dou valor. Não assisti muitos filmes com ela, mas é incrível como ela consegue interpretar qualquer papel sem perder a pose. Hoje, ao pensar em fashion, você pensa em Meryl, depois de “O diabo veste prada”. A mulher é um gênio, e também uma das minhas atrizes favoritas, mesmo loira, cantora, tirana ou desesperada, Meryl é uma das melhores. Ah, se é.

6 – Drew Barrymore. Quem não gosta da Drew? Ela é bonita, simpática, tem um sorriso meigo e gentil, e ela atuou em E.T. É, a menininha loirinha e linda É a Drew Barrymore com 6 anos. Além desse filme super legal, a Drew tbm atuou em “As Panteras”, o que a deixou BEM famosa, já que o filme foi um arraso. Adoro a Drew simplesmente porque ela é uma boa atriz, trata as pessoas bem, é fofa e ainda por cima atuou em E.T. A Drew merece a lista, merece sim.

5 – Renee Zellweger. Sim, todos que assistiram “O diário de Bridget Jones” amam a Renee. Aqueles que assistiram “A Enfermeira Betty” também. E, incrivelmente, quem assistiu “Jerry Maguire” também! Então, a Renee tem que ser uma atriz boa, não é verdade? Eu acho que sim. A Renee é uma ótima atriz, que faz sacrificios para fazer um bom filme. Vê a Renee magrinha ai? Pois é, ela teve que engordar MUITO para fazer a nossa querida Bridget. É por isso que ela boa, porque tem que ser muito boa pra agradar todo mundo mesmo sendo gordinha. :*

4 – Molly Ringwald. Chegou a vez da ícone teen anos 80, Molly! Pra quem assistiu “A garota de rosa shocking”, “O Clube dos Cinco”, ou qualquer outro filme que essa moça tenha feito, com certeza gostou – e eu estou falando das meninas, nessa hora. A Molly era o tipo de garota que TODA menina queria ser. Criativa, decidida, e às vezes impulsiva, suas personagens sempre caracterizavam as adolescentes, ou o que elas queriam ser. A Molly ainda é atriz, claro, e lógico, ainda é MUITO boa, mas nunca, nunca vai deixar de ser nossa querida “Claire”

3 – Nicole Kidman. A super Nicole. Essa mulher, definitivamente, não existe. Não é possível que uma mulher seja tão boa atriz, tão bonita e tão … incrível. Um de meus filmes preferidos que a senhorita Kidman atuou foi o famosíssimo Moulin Rouge, onde a mesma interpreta uma prostituta que deseja ser atriz e se apaixona por um escritor. Recentemente, fez outro filme maravilhoso com o maravilhoso Hugh Jackman, chamado Australia. Muito bom, o que só mostra que ela é genial.

2 – Anne Hathaway. Fofa demais. Anne conseguiu fazer, com seu primeiro papel mais famoso, que todo mundo lhe adorasse. Ao interpretar a princesa Mia em O Diário da Princesa, uma legião de meninas desejou ser ela, enquanto outra de meninos desejou TER ela. Ou ser, quem sabe. O fato é que, mesmo depois disso, Anne ainda fez outro filme de estrondoso sucesso, o já dito “O diabo veste prada”. Sempre linda e perfeita, suas personagens são sempre interessantes e divertidas. Sim, a Anne, na minha opinião, merece o segundo lugar.

1 – Liv Tyler. Finalmente, minha diva. Todos aqui que frequentam o blog sabem que amo a Liv. Ela é uma ótima atriz, é linda, e apesar de estar meio gordinha ultimamente, ainda assim é uma moça muito bem apessoada. Depois de fazer muitos filmes que não a mostraram para o mundo, Liv despontou como a querida Arwen Undómiel, em Senhor dos Anéis. Como o esperado, Liv não decepcionou e mostrou que era uma atriz excelente e que se tornou uma das mais amadas atrizes de quase todo nerd.

Guess what’s on ABC Family tonight. The Prince & Me 3: A Royal Honeymoon!!! I cannot express how excited I am for this movie. The original The Prince & Me, with Julia Stiles and some blond guy is one of the best movies ever made. The sequel, The Prince & Me 2: The Royal Wedding, is also pretty amazing. It has the original blond guy, but be warned – a horrible new chick with bad hair. She almost makes this a bad movie. But don’t worry, the plot is just TOO amazing to be considered anything but a fantastic cinematic experience. Which is why I’m so looking forward to this movie tonight! Check it out tonight at 8 pm on ABC Family. It won’t even interfere with the season finale of Mad Men (though please, lots of repressed angst, or a royal honeymoon on the alps with lots of ball gowns? Like that’s even a serious question.).

When his child dies at birth, a husband is convinced – in order to keep his wife from being too upset – to take home a different baby that has no family.  As it turns out, this baby is the Anti-Christ.  Oops.

I have not seen the original 1976 version of this, but I have to imagine that it was better than this.  Everybody involved just seems to be on autopilot.  I can’t pinpoint anything in particular that is obviously bad, but there’s also nothing particularly good either.  Plus, there’s not much energy in anything.  Not in the acting, the music, the direction, or anything else.  Damien (Davey-Fitzpatrick) is especially dull.  They didn’t even give him much creepy to say.  I think the actor is just too young to portray any real menace or intelligence beyond his years.  He just comes off as a cute little kid trying to make mean faces.

Stiles and Schreiber are okay, but lifeless, and as usual, nay, ALWAYS, the mother is the one that sees the kid as being evil, while the husband sits by watching her go crazy, offering up helpful phrases like, “you just need some rest, honey” and “he’s just a little boy.”  I’m pretty tired of that stuff in these kinds of movies.

I guess a few scenes manage to be creepy, and a couple of them will make you jump, but there’s no overall build up of dread that would seem appropriate for the subject matter.  And speaking of that subject matter, we see Catholic church officials talking in the beginning about prophecies being fulfilled and how they believe that Armageddon is approaching soon.  They refer to it as their biggest fear, which seemed odd to me because doesn’t Armageddon also signify the second coming of Christ?  I know there’s horrible stuff associated with it also, but wouldn’t they be generally happy instead?

Regardless, none of that would matter if it was effectively scary or ominous, but it’s not.  It’s well made, but it’s boring.  Also, the final shot of the movie is just plain stupid and unnecessary.  Maybe it was the same in the original, but that doesn’t make it ok.

It’s a no-brainer:  Don’t take home strange, motherless babies from the hospital.

10 – 3 for dull acting, directing, etc – - 1.5 for some silly scenes = 5.5

Let me start by giving you the nutshell synopsis of the play as provided by Wikipedia.

Oleanna is a two-character play by David Mamet, about the power struggle between a university professor and one of his female students, who accuses him of sexual exploitation and, by doing so, spoils his chances of being accorded tenure. The play’s title, taken from a folk song, refers to a 19th-century escapist vision of utopia.

This is not only my most favorite Mamet plays but it is also in my top 5 favorite plays as of yet. I have worked on this show in undergrad, seen it in London (starring Julia Stiles and Aaron Eckhart, 2004) and now on Broadway (starring Stiles and Bill Pullman). This is a show that never gets old for me and when done right it is very intriguing. Hands down, this one was a much more powerful production that any other I have seen.

Stiles ability to appear as the vulnerable and harmless student is so deceiving that as the story unravels it is like a camouflaged lion lunging from the grass and knocking you over. Pullman starts out as the very distracted and high strung professor who is left horrified in a trap that he has unknowingly set himself up in.

Both actors gave a great performance and will have you leaving the theatre in discussion for the rest of the evening. The whole commute home between me and Lady was us talking about this production on the train and all the way to our front door (because she’s currently living with me). Major kudos to Doug Hughes for making it so enthralling.

Heads up… there is no intermission for this show but know that it is so intense (and short compared to some shows) that an intermission would ruin the intensity of the climax and revelation of the show. Trust me.

We at DBIH can only assume that our spike in traffic (and crazy commenters- see below) mean one thing: book deal. And don’t worry potential publishers, we are ready. Boy are we ready. In fact, we are so ready (!!!!) that we’ve already gotten some ideas together for merchandising DBIH. You don’t have to thank us, your money will be enough.

Firstly, the book. Clearly. It would help if it was scratch and sniff, but if it isn’t, I guess we can deal. In the book, we could include some of our favorite recipes as well as a map of our favorite locations in DC and around the world (including, but not limited to: Baked and Wired, any S$$ which serves PSLs, anywhere where Tall can buy more Burberry and Marc Jacobs, and the Circulator route that goes down K street). Obviously, this book would be a best-seller. It would clearly outsell Amy Tan and Dan Brown (fucking assholes) combined. At least when we make things up (I’m talking to you crazy-ass commenters), it’s funny.

The book would be like this, but better.

Secondofly, some kind of visual media- preferably a major motion picture, but an HBO miniseries would do (those win a shit-ton of Emmys). Playing me would be Ginnifer Goodwin. I just adore her hair. Playing Work Chucks would obviously be Drew Barrymore, in her current crazy-ass jeans+hightops incarnation. Her look is phenomenal. Dirty Hippie would be Julia Stiles circa 10 Things and @ahfdemocrat thinks he’d be Seth Cohen. I’m not sure he’s funny enough. We’re still unclear if Tall will be played by Gisele Bunchen or a gazelle- I think it could probably go either way. Once Jappy starts turning into more of a “butch” type, she can be played by Jane Lynch, a true SSR favorite. I still can’t think of who would play Chef Hooles, but it would totally be someone awesome. Chef Hooles will be played by Amy Adams, who is totally adorable and who learned how to cook for Julie and Julia!

The extreme popularity of the movie/miniseries would prompt NBC/Universal (aka Jack Donaghy) into further merchandising deals with us. DBIH would be everywhere, including a themed restaurant, preferably somewhere totally awesome in DC/London. Chef Hooles could come up with the menu, which would be closely mirrored upon DBIH favorite restaurant Figs, but we would obviously add ice cream cake and mojitos.

Just get it done (nope...I lost it. That was Batman)

The restaurant will be huge, because Chef Hooles is a great cook and we at DBIH love to eat. Yes we do.

I can just tell that people will really want to join the DBIH lifestyle. Who wouldn’t? It’s fucking amazing. We’d be willing (for a small fee, you know, a pound of flesh or so) to license a theme park ride, under a few conditions, namely that it be at Epcot. I fucking love Epcot. The ride would take average Americans (like you!) through the magical world of DBIH: SSR, Sarajevo, and Big Blue. There would be vodka watermelon for everyone and instead of uncomfy roller coaster seats like on It’s a Small World, everyone could sit in papasan chairs.

Finally, @ahfdemocrat recommended DBIH porno. This is kind of creepy. I’ll just let the suggestion come directly from him.
