Anche quest’anno di motomondiale si è concluso. Tre campioni del mondo, uno spagnolo nelle 125, Julian Simon, uno Giapponese nella 250 Hiroshi Aoeyama e il solito Valentino Rossi.

L’ultimo mondiale da decidere a Valencia era quello delle 250. Primi giri molto belli, con Simoncelli che parte male, recupera e va in prima posizione, mentre dietro Aoyama fa di tutto per perdere, va lungo, rientra 11esimo (posizione minima per laurearsi campione matematicamente),  e poi rimonta fino alla settima posizione. Intanto Simoncelli cade e non vince neanche l’ultima gara di sempre delle quarto di litro.

Dall’anno prossimo si cambia, si passa alla Moto 2, una di quelle cose che non capisci e che forse non capirai mai. Intendiamoci, maari le gare saranno anche migliori, con più equilibrio e forse spettacolo, ma il regolamento di qualcosa di sportivo dovrebbe essere all’insegna dello sport…

In poche parole le moto saranno 600 derivate di serie, con motori uguali, monogomma, telai simili e soprattutto cambi non estraibili, solo qualche mappatura da scegliere. In pratica nessuno modificherà la moto, e addio alla scuola per il successivo salto di qualità, per la massima serie.
I piloti saranno niente più che piloti, con il rammarico di andare sempre più verso strade già viste con due ruote in più, verso regolamenti sempre più assurdi e con piloti che somigliano sempre più a giocatori di videogame.

Meno male che limitano i costi, ma anche lì coi sarebbe molto da ridire, molti credono che si andrà a spendere di più, esattamente come in MotoGp, dove le limitazione dei motori non solo non si addice a prototipi che in quanto tali necessitano del miglior sviluppo possibile e continuo, ma la spesa e la ricerca sarà da oggi indirizzata all’affidabilità.

Non sarebbe meglio togliere un po’ di elettronic – tranne quella per la sicurezza si intende – limitare le mappature e fare in modo che gli ultimi giri sembrino gli ultimi e non i primi?, con gomme finite e non nuove? Con piloti che sanno sviluppare la moto, gestire il polso destro e non solo piegare e dare gas.

Guardatevi la gara di Phillip Island del 2001, “vecchie” 2 tempi 500cc, altra era, altro spettacolo. Capirete meglio…

Se acabó lo que se daba: el Mundial de Motociclismo 2009 ha terminado. La verdad es que parece que fue ayer cuando comenzó (y este blog con él), pero ya no veremos más carreras hasta la primavera del año que viene, y eso es mucho tiempo. Afortunadamente, el Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana nos ha dejado un magnífico sabor de boca: triplete de ganadores españoles.

Además, se decidió el último título que aún no tenía dueño: el de 250 c.c., que fue a parar a manos del japonés Hiroshi Aoyama, quien tendría que sufrir de lo lindo para conseguirlo a pesar de tenerlo a priori muy fácil.

Pero hagamos un repaso a las tres carreras:

125 C.C:

Julián Simón, que ya se adjudicó matemáticamente el título de campeón hace dos grandes premios, no ha dejado títere con cabeza, pues después de aquello, ganó también en Malasia y ha vuelto a vencer en su casa, en Valencia.

El piloto de Villacañas (creo que se escribe así), se marcó una gran persecución tras su compañero de equipo Bradley Smith, escapándose ambos del resto de corredores. Sin embargo, lejos de adelantarle, estuvo casi toda la carrera a 1 segundo de distancia, hasta que el inglés cometió un error y Simón aprovechó la ocasión. Después se sucedieron algunos adelantamientos muy entretenidos, pero el español se hizo finalmente con la victoria.

Tras la carrera, Julián Simón aseguró que, de no haber cometido su rival aquel error, era muy probable que no le hubiese podido ganar; un detalle de humildad que le honra. Lo cierto es que Julito ha cerrado una excelente temporada (pese a cometer alguna estupidez), siendo el líder más sólido de las tres categorías.

Julián Simón venía de correr la temporada pasada en la categoría de 250 c.c. con poco éxito, y este año tomó la difícil decisión de volver a 125 c.c. a luchar por el título. Y ahora es suyo. Esto demuestra que dar un paso atrás en la vida no tiene por qué significar una derrota.

Finalmente, la clasificación de 125 c.c. ha quedado así:

250 C.C:

En Honda ayer sudaron tinta. Su piloto, Hiroshi Aoyama, sólo necesitaba acabar la última carrera de la temporada siendo undécimo para hacerse con el título. Sin embargo, la situación, a priori tan fácil de resolver, bordeó por momentos el desastre absoluto.

En vez de tomarse la carrera con cierto relax, Aoyama quiso llevarse el campeonato celebrándolo desde el podio -lo cual le honra- pero en el camino, luchando contra pilotos que no tenían nada que perder, estuvo a punto de irse al suelo en una preciosa y larga excursión por la gravilla, que salvó de milagro. Por suerte para él, pudo volver al asfalto ¡el 11º!, a un pelo de regalar el mundial.

La situación fue muy tensa durante algunas vueltas porque su único rival real, Marco Simoncelli, iba en cabeza, y si alguien adelantaba al japonés, el mundial se iba para Italia. Sin embargo, el ritmo de Aoyama era suficientemente fuerte como para que ningún otro piloto pudiera ni soñar adelantarle en esas posiciones, y además, Simoncelli terminó cayéndose, con lo que automáticamente se decidió el campeonato. Al final, el japonés pasó en séptima posición por meta.

Total, que con mucho sufrimiento, pero Honda ha ganado el último Camponato del Mundo de 250 c.c., aunque realmente deberíamos decir que lo ha ganado Hiroshi Aoyama, porque lo ha hecho sin ningún apoyo desde fábrica y con una moto claramente inferior a las Aprilia, y que no evoluciona desde hace siglos, con lo que su título tiene aún más mérito.

Mención especial también para Héctor Barberá, que ha firmado una gran final de temporada, consiguiendo la victoria en Valencia, lo que le ha valido para acabar subcampeón de 250 c.c.

MotoGP:

Y en la categoría reina se vieron mucho detalles interesantes y mucho pilotos intentando demostrar cosas.

En primer lugar tenemos a Pedrosa, que ganó la carrera y de paso, el tercer puesto en la clasificación general, lo cual le dará ánimos para la siguiente temporada. Ha hecho un buen final de año, pero que no se alegre demasiado, que aún tienen que mejorar bastante para llegar al nivel de Yamaha.

En segundo lugar, tenemos a Rossi y Lorenzo, que entraron por este orden por meta. Lorenzo intentó acercarse lo suficiente como para adelantar a Valentino hacia el final de carrera, pero no fue posible. Il dottore sigue estando un paso por delante de todos. Ya veremos el año que viene.

Casey Stoner también intentaba reafirmarse con otra victoria, después de hacer segundo y primero en los dos últimos grandes premios. El australiano pretendía demostrar que, de no haberse perdido tres carreras por enfermedad en esta temporada, otro gallo les hubiera cantado a Rossi, Lorenzo y Pedrosa. Y es verdad. Sin embargo, cometió un error estúpido el domingo, y tras conseguir la pole, se cayó de la moto en la vuelta de calentamiento, lo que le impidió tomar la salida. Finalmente ha quedado cuarto en la clasificación.

Más atrás hemos visto cómo Toni Elías se despedía de Moto GP con un sexto puesto, que le coloca a la postre en séptima posición en el mundial, que no está nada mal. Lástima que no obtuviera mejores resultados un poco antes. Le echaremos de menos en la categoría reina, aunque le seguiremos viendo en Moto2.

Colin Edwards, el tejano en el que nadie se fija, pero que siempre está ahí, acabó cuarto en Valencia y ha conseguido una meritoria quinta posición en la clasificación final del campeonato; un premio a la constancia. Y Nicky Hayden, que parece que ha conseguido llevarse mejor con la Ducati a final de temporada, acabó quinto en Valencia.

Otro hombre que captó la atención del público fue Ben Spies, flamante campeón del Mundial de Superbikes, que vino a probar sobre una Yamaha satélite lo que era correr en Moto GP, pues el año que viene estará en la parrilla. Y no lo hizo mal: 7º, por delante de la otra Honda oficial de Dovizioso y muy por encima del poco afortunado James Toseland (12º), que también fue campeón de Superbikes. Eso sí, Spies estuvo lejos de igualar la humillación a la que sometió hace dos años Troy Bayliss a todos los pilotos de MotoGP, ganado la última carrera de la temporada de un modo aplastante (aunque iba sobre una Ducati oficial, todo hay que decirlo…).

En fin, qué penita, esto se ha acabado. Así ha quedado la tabla de puntos para la reflexión:

Y colorín, colorado… el campeonato ha terminado. Pronto colgaré un post repasando lo que ha sido esta temporada 2009 bajo mi perspectiva personal, y hablaré de Moto2, y de todo lo que podemos esperar de esta nueva categoría el año que viene.

Hasta entonces, os dejo un par de imágenes que a mí me parecen muy interesantes. Son de una gala de entrega de premios de la FIM (Federación Internacional de Motociclismo) que hubo ayer por la tarde, donde se galardonó a los pilotos más destacados de la temporada. A mí me parecen muy bonitas.

Al fin y al cabo, ellos nos han entretenido (a los que seguimos apasionadamente este deporte) durante muchas horas en este año, y es curioso verles vestidos “de calle”, sin decenas de logotipos rodeando sus cuerpos.

125cc: Champion Julián Simón wins again

125cc world champion Julian Simon won his sixth race of the 2009 season at Sepang after a superb battle with his Aspar Aprilia team-mate Bradley Smith.

Just like last week’s Australian Grand Prix, the Malaysian event came down to a last lap contest between the duo, from which Simon emerged victorious, although second secured the runner-up spot in the standings for Smith.

Simon had dropped as low as fifth on the opening lap, as Efren Vazquez burst through from ninth on the grid to battle with polesiter Marc Marquez.

The two Spaniards swapped the lead repeatedly while Simon picked his way back up to third, before passing the two leaders at consecutive corners on lap two.

Smith needed a couple more laps to get past Marquez and Vazquez, by which time Simon was a second clear, but a series of fastest laps from the Briton meant that the two Aspar Aprilias were together at the front and a comfortable 4s ahead of their rivals approaching half-distance.

At first Smith – riding with a broken bone in his foot following his qualifying crash – patiently stalked Simon, before diving ahead into the final corner on lap 13.

But despite his best efforts, Smith could not break away, and relinquished the lead again three laps later when he ran slightly wide.

He charged back onto Simon’s tail and was side by side with the Spaniard into Turn 9 on the last lap, but Simon held the inside and then resisted another attempt from Smith at the final corner that saw both drift wide.

Pol Espargaro surged forward from 11th on the grid to take third, emerging at the head of what had been a nine-bike battle for the final podium spot. With Simone Corsi crashing out of fourth two laps from the flag, Sergio Gadea, Nico Terol and Sandro Cortese chased Espargaro home.

Marquez and Vazquez both retired – the former suffering an engine problem and the latter falling at the last corner.

Jonas Folger had been charging through this group until making contact with Marquez on lap nine as he tried to go around the outside of the KTM at Turn 1.

The other significant crash happened on the first lap, when Danny Webb fell into the path of Stefan Bradl, taking both out. Bradl was uninjured while Webb reported leg pain.

250cc: Hiroshi Aoyama wins and now is closer to title

Hiroshi Aoyama brought himself to the brink of the 250cc world championship by defeating title rival Marco Simoncelli in an epic Sepang race.

With Simoncelli pushed down to third behind Hector Barbera in a frantic last lap, Aoyama’s championship lead is back up to 17 points, with just 25 available at the Valencia finale.

The title fight is now a two-way contest, with second not sufficient to keep Barbera in contention, and fellow long-shot Alvaro Bautista crashing for the third straight race when running fourth early on.

Aoyama lost the lead to second place qualifier Jules Cluzel off the line, while Simoncelli quickly made progress from his disappointing eighth on the grid.

When Aoyama slid wide in a failed move on Cluzel on lap two, he slipped to fourth and found Simoncelli right on his tail – and then ahead of him as the Italian sliced inside his title rival at Turn 2.

The duo then picked through to the front of the field together, with Aoyama all over the back of Simoncelli. The Scot Honda went down the inside into the last corner on lap six, but Simoncelli had a better exit and eased Aoyama out over the kerbs, letting Cluzel get back between them.

Aoyama was soon back on Simoncelli’s tail and repeated his hairpin pass at half-distance. Simoncelli drafted back through on the straight, Aoyama outbraked him again into Turn 1, and then Simoncelli nipped back down the inside at Turn 2.

Two laps later Aoyama surprised Simoncelli into Turn 9 and reclaimed the lead. Simoncelli again fought back on the pits straight and again the pair went through Turns 1 and 2 side by side, inches apart. But this time Aoyama got back ahead as they accelerated through the Turn 3 kink, resisted Simoncelli’s retaliation at Turn 5, and then finally made a break.

A string of new lap records took Aoyama into a comfortable lead, while Simoncelli had his hands full fending off Barbera, who slipped ahead at the final corner at one point only to run very wide.

Barbera stepped up his attack on the last lap, getting alongside on the dash to the line and taking the flag in a dead-heat with Simoncelli. They could not be split on video evidence so Barbera was awarded the place because his fastest lap was quicker than the Italian’s.

Cluzel crashed out at half-distance. As well as the Frenchman and Bautista, other riders to fall while in the top ten included Mike di Meglio and Mattia Pasini.

Thomas Luthi recovered from a first lap wobble to fight through to fourth, with Hector Faubel beating Ratthapark Wilairot and Alex Debon to fifth.

MotoGP: Casey Stoner wins and Valentino Rossi is champion

Valentino Rossi claimed his seventh MotoGP title and his ninth world championship in total by fighting back to third in a wet Malaysian Grand Prix dominated by Casey Stoner.

While Stoner (Ducati) blitzed the field from the outset, Rossi had to recover from a first corner error that dropped him to the foot of the top ten to take third behind Dani Pedrosa’s Honda.

Rossi’s title rival and Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo had to start last and recovering to fourth was insufficient to prolong the championship fight.

The race was delayed by nearly 40 minutes due to a massive downpour, and although the rain eased considerably, the track was never ready for slick tyres.

Lorenzo was demoted to the back of the field when he had to change to his spare bike and failed to get out of the pitlane in time to join the grid.

But it looked like he would swiftly overcome this setback, for while Lorenzo immediately gained ground off the line, Rossi ran wide at the first corner and dropped from first to eighth – right in front of his flying team-mate. Both Lorenzo and Marco Melandri then passed the cautious Rossi before the opening lap was over, and it took several failed attempts before Rossi was able to re-pass the Hayate Kawasaki.

Lorenzo picked his way past Loris Capirossi (Suzuki), Nicky Hayden (Ducati) and Toni Elias (Gresini Honda) – overtaking Hayden three times in total as the American kept fighting back – but Rossi was shadowing his every move, and that was no good for the Spaniard, who needed a lot of bikes between them.

Although following Lorenzo to the flag would have guaranteed the title for Rossi, he was not prepared to do that and overtook his team-mate to move into fourth on lap eight.

Up front, Stoner soon passed Pedrosa for the lead and then stormed away at 2s per lap in the first half of the race, before backing off and cruising to a brilliant second victory in seven days.

Pedrosa came under pressure from his team-mate Andrea Dovizioso until the Italian crashed at Turn 5 late on, allowing Rossi to celebrate his championship victory from the podium.

Randy de Puniet was the only other rider to crash out in the difficult conditions. The LCR Honda rider had a vicious high speed high side while running fifth on lap two but escaped serious injury.

Hayden completed the top five ahead of Suzuki’s Chris Vermeulen, who lived up to his wet weather ace reputation by steadily advancing from his initial 14th place.

His team-mate Capirossi went in the opposite direction, before recovering to ninth behind Elias and Melandri, and just in front of Pramac Ducati pair Mika Kallio and Aleix Espargaro, and Alex de Angelis (Gresini Honda).

James Toseland’s awful weekend got worse as he finished a distant last, but his Tech 3 Yamaha team-mate Colin Edwards also floundered with his wet settings and trailed home 13th.

MotoGP: Casey Stoner vence e Valentino Rossi é campeão

Valentino Rossi foi terceiro no GP da Malásia, atrás do vencedor Casey Stoner e de Dani Pedrosa, e assim pôde festejar o seu 7º título na categoria-rainha do motociclismo, e 9º nas várias categorias.

Depois da ausência, Casey Stoner ficou em 2º no Estoril e venceu na semana passada na Austrália. Comprovando o regresso em grande forma, o australiano venceu novamente na Malásia, desta feita com cerca de 15 segundos para os seus adversários.

Dani Pedrosa foi o 2º, à frente de Valentino Rossi, que encerrou o pódio.

A corrida iniciou-se com a pista molhada, e foi atrasada em cerca de 35 minutos devido a um forte aguaceiro. Jorge Lorenzo teve problemas logo aí, visto que na volta de reconhecimento a moto do espanhol teve um problema que fez com que não se pudesse juntar à grelha de partida a tempo, partindo de último depois de se ter qualificado em segundo.

Valentino Rossi partiu da pole position, mas uma má partida “atirou” com o italiano para décimo. No final, Jorge Lorenzo foi quarto e Valentino Rossi terceiro, posições que garantiam desde logo a conquista do título por parte do italiano.

Para terminar no 2º posto, Dani Pedrosa teve que manter a pressão sobre o seu colega de equipa, Andrea Dovizioso, mas o italiano caiu na curva 5 à 7ª volta, “dando” mais tranquilidade a Dani Pedrosa e permitindo a festa do título a Valentino Rossi.

No 5º posto ficou Nicky Hayden, na frente de um Chris Vermeulen que comprovou a sua reputação de “mestre” nas corridas à chuva, subindo do 14º posto até ao 6º posto final.

No 7º posto ficou Toni Elias, na frente de Marco Melandri. Em 8º ficou o colega de equipa de Chris Vermeulen na Suzkuki, Loris Capirossi, que perdeu posições antes de chegar ao 9º posto. Atrás de si, e a completar o top-10, ficou Mika Kallio, que terminou cerca de um segundo à frente do seu colega de equipa na Pramac Ducati, Aleix Espargaro, que ficou com o 11º posto.

A legkisebb géposztályban a spanyol Julian Simon nyerte meg a maláj nagydíjat az angol Bradley Smith, és a spanyol Pol Esperago előtt.

A 125 kcm-nél már korábban eldőlt, hogy a spanyol Julian Simon nyerte meg az idei vb-sorozatot. A Maláj nagydíjat a friss bajnok Simon végzett az élen, a második a fiatal angol Bradley Smith, és a harmadik helyen a spanyol Pol Esparago futott be.

Egy futam van még hátra az idei 2009-es világbajnoki sorozatból, ahol Valenciában rendezik meg.

Se nos acaba la fiesta. Este fin de semana se han decidido los campeonatos de 125 c.c. y el de Fórmula 1 (que no es objeto de este blog, pero también lo sigo), y además, el de Moto GP está prácticamente adjudicado.

Afortunadamente, ahí tenemos a Julián Simón, que se trae para España el primer (y seguramente, el único) título de motociclismo de la temporada.

Así pues, vamos a dar un repaso rápido a lo acontecido. Así han quedado las cosas:

125 C.C.

Ayer todo parecía indicar que Julián Simón se iba a tener que esperar a otra carrera para ganar su campeonato. No salió bien y en las primeras vueltas se rodeó de un nutrido grupo de pilotos muy agresivos, y teniendo en cuenta que en sus condiciones no le compensaba arriesgar lo más mínimo, pues todos pensamos que no se iba a decidir nada hasta la siguiente cita mundialista.

Sin embargo, en el transcurrir de las vueltas, mientras la atención se centraba en los pilotos que se iban turnando el liderazgo, Simón y Bradley Smith (su inmediato perseguidor en la clasificación, y compañero de equipo) se fueron abriendo paso silenciosamente hasta colocarse en cabeza, donde abrieron un hueco de varios segundos respecto al resto.

Smith iba primero y Simón, muy cerca, y la lógica indicaba que no era necesario para el español arriesgar para llevarse el campeonato, porque en esas posiciones, el título ya era suyo. Sin embargo, los pilotos de verdad quieren ganar venciendo, y así lo hizo Julián Simón, que fue detrás del inglés el resto de la carrera para asestarle un hachazo en la última vuelta, en una curva en la que nadie se lo esperaba.

Y así, finalmente, conquistó el título mundial desde lo más alto del podio, como lo hacen los grandes.

¡Que viene “el coco”, que viene “el coco”! Y ¿quién es “el coco”? Pues el coco se apellida Simoncelli, corre como un demonio, y aunque no es el chico más respetuoso en pista, le echa muchos huevos al asunto.

Pues sí, aunque muchos le descartaban a principio de temporada en la lucha por el título al haberse perdido varias carreras por lesión, resulta que los demás no aprovecharon semejante ventaja, y ahora el coco les va a comer. Ya está 2º en la clasificación, superando a Bautista, y a sólo 12 puntos del japonés Aoyama.

Lo del japonés es bastante triste. Como no cambie drásticamente (o él o la moto, o todo junto), va a perder un campeonato que tenía en bandeja, y a los jefecillos de Honda, que pretendían adjudicarse el último campeonato del mundo de 250 c.c. de la historia (habiendo ignorado a su equipo en la categoría durante los últimos años…), pues se les va a caer el castillo de naipes.

Hiroshi Aoyama terminó 7º, cuando la carrera se detuvo por bandera roja al suceder un duro accidente de Roberto Locatelli. Aún tiene la suerte de depender de sí mismo para ganar, pero no por mucho tiempo…

Y lo de Bautista no es menos deprimente. Salió 10º en la parrilla de salida y, para variar, arrancó mal. Total, que tuvo que marcarse la enésima remontada para llegar a la cabeza de carrera, que está muy bien y tiene mérito, pero es que así no se puede ganar un campeonato. ¿Por qué? Pues porque luego pasa lo que pasa. Te pones tercero, tienes que hacer un esfuerzo extra si pretendes ganar, pero tus neumáticos te dicen: “Chaval, sigue corriendo tú, que nosotros nos vamos”, y sales rodando por los suelos. Normal.

En fin, que si nadie lo remedia, Marco Simoncelli les robará a todos el campeonato. Con un par.

Moto GP:

Desde luego, si me llego a despertar de madrugada para ver esta carrera y luego resulta que Jorge Lorenzo besa el suelo en la primera curva, regalando el campeonato a Rossi, me suicido. Menos mal que existen las repeticiones en TVE y pude deprimirme igualmente, aunque con unas horitas más de sueño en el cuerpo.

Jorge nos ha fallado. Nada más salir, chocó con Nicky Hayden, lo que le descolocó para entrar en la curva de final de meta y se fue al suelo. Se lesionó un dedo y se dio un golpe fuerte en la nariz. Son cosas de las carreras, pero en estas circunstancias hay que ir con más cuidado, que es mejor llevarse sólo 10 puntos que tirar tus opciones por la borda.

La carrera la lideró en todo momento Casey Stoner, con Rossi de perseguidor y Pedrosa tercero a mucha distancia de ellos. Valentino no quiso hacer el tonto otra vez y, sabiendo que Lorenzo estaba out, prefirió los 20 puntos de la segunda plaza que jugársela a ver si podía con Stoner. Pero el australiano estaba muy fuerte y corría en casa. Además no tenía nada que perder, y sí mucha moral que recuperar, por lo que enfrentarse a él no podía salir bien.

Por lo tanto, así acabaron: Stoner, Rossi, y Pedrosa ¡a 20 segundos! (muy fuerte…) Además, a pesar de estar varias carreras sin disputar, Stoner recupera la tercera plaza de la clasificación, que nunca debió perder. Y Honda debería replantearse qué demonios llevan haciendo los últimos años en Moto GP.

Y con esto y un bizcocho… pues otro campeonato prácticamente liquidado.

Con 50 puntos en juego y 38 de ventaja, es casi imposible que a Valentino se le pueda escapar este mundial.

Julián Simón se adjudicó la victoria en el circuito de Phillip Island con ocasión del Gran Premio de Australia de 125cc y logró el título de la categoría como los grandes campeones, con triunfo incluido y no por ello menos trabajado.

Desde el momento en que se apagó el semáforo rojo se pudo percibir que sería una carrera complicada para conseguir el título mundial, pero el piloto de Villacañas cumplió impecablemente con su estrategia y supo esperar el momento oportuno para aprovechar su oportunidad mientras el primero en marcar

el ritmo era el autor del mejor tiempo de entrenamientos, Pol Espargaró.

Simón no perdió los nervios a pesar de la discreta salida que realizó y mientras por delante Espargaró comenzó marcando el ritmo, a su estela se pusieron prácticamente todos los protagonistas de la categoría en esta carrera. El doble vencedor de las últimas carreras tiró con fuerza al frente de la cabeza pero tras su estela se colocaron Nicolás Terol, Bradley Smith, Simone Corsi, Andrea Iannone o Efrén Vázquez, con Sandro Cortese un poco más atrás pero recuperando terreno a ritmo de vuelta rápida

Jorge Lorenzo, alias “Asimo” (apodo que recibe el famoso robot experimental de Honda) por la nueva decoración de su mono, ha vencido sin discusión en el circuito de Estoril, lo que le sitúa a sólo 18 puntos del líder, Valentino Rossi, quien estuvo muy descafeinado en la carrera, terminando 4º.

Ni la vuelta de Stoner a los circuitos, ni las ganas de Pedrosa ni el propio dottore pudieron molestarle siquiera en su marcha hacia la meta.

En primer lugar debo disculparme ante aquellos que siguen el blog, pues la falta de tiempo me impidió colgar los horarios de este Gran Premio, y además llevo un cierto retraso con algunas novedades candentes, que muy pronto subsanaré.

Al margen de esto, vamos con el resumen de lo que fue la carrera de Estoril:

En 125 C.C. todos esperaban el triunfo que convertiría al lider de la clasificación, Julián Simón, en campeón del mundo. De hecho, el piloto trasladó allí a todos sus familiares y amigos para apoyarle. Sin embargo, esto no sucedió.

La carrera fue muy competida, con continuos cambios de líder, destacando la de Nico Terol cuando peleaba en el grupo de cabeza, la del maleducado Andrea Iannone (empujando a los asistentes del circuito que se preocupaban por su estado) y la del propio Julián Simón, que, no obstante, pudo continuar y pasar por meta 13º, retrasando por tanto la celebración del título para próximas citas.

Lo cierto es que el campeonato es suyo, y, salvo desastre absoluto, sólo es una cuestión de tiempo que acabe en sus manos.

El justo ganador de la carrera fue el joven piloto de Derbi, Pol Espargaró, quien, de no ser por la maniobra suicida de Iannone en Misano -que acabó con ambos por tierra-, ya estaría celebrando su segunda victoria consecutiva. Gracioso fue ver a Karlos Arguiñano -patrocinador del equipo- en el podio acompañando al piloto.

Meritorio papel también el de Sandro Cortese, que acabó segundo, obteniendo así el mejor resultado de su carrera.

En 250 C.C. Álvaro Bautista tenía una oportunidad de oro para ponerse líder de la clasificación por delante de Hiroshi Aoyama (o al menos, acercarse mucho). De hecho, por primera vez en muchas carreras salió bien y pronto se puso en cabeza. Además, el japonés no parecía tener el día muy inspirado y estaba perdiendo posiciones preocupantemente.

Sin embargo, la alegría nos duró poco, pues en esta ocasión la mecánica le jugó una mala pasada al español, y el motor gripó a las pocas vueltas, haciendo saltar a Bautista por los aires.

Y como a río revuelto, ganancia de pescadores, llegó el “armador” Simoncelli y se llevó la carrera con facilidad, acercándose a dos puntos de Álvaro Bautista en la clasificación.

Por detrás, Mike Di Meglio y Héctor Barberá (que salía desde la pole) se disputaron durante toda la carrera el segundo puesto. Al final, entraron los dos por meta con exactamente el mismo tiempo (yo no lo he visto en la vida), y hubo una cierta confusión para saber quién era segundo y quién tercero, pero se declaró a Di Meglio vencedor de entre los dos por haber hecho la vuelta más rápida. 4º llegó Aoyama, que, de momento, sigue líder.

La cara de Barberá en el podio es todo un poema.

Y en Moto GP volvimos a ver al Lorenzo que más nos gusta, rematando un fin de semana de entrenamientos perfecto. Hay que aclarar que el aspecto de su mono con apariencia de astronauta, se debe a una promoción de Fiat del nuevo modelo Punto EVO, aunque algunas mentes maliciosas lo apodaron “Asimo”, ya he explicado por qué.

Rossi llegó ¡a 23 segundos del primero! Tras la carrera declaró que tenía problemas de agarre en la rueda trasera, y es posible que fuera verdad porque es francamente extraño verle fuera del podio.

Casey Stoner volvió al Mundial con ganas de demostrar que no se le había olvidado eso de montar en moto, y desde luego que lo hizo ante todos, aunque no pudo ni acercarse al ritmo de Jorge Lorenzo. Afortunadamente el australiano se encuentra ya recuperado de sea-lo-que-sea que tuviera (nadie tiene muy claro qué le pasaba…), y puede convertirse en el juez -junto con Pedrosa- que decida quién va a ser campeón. Así pues, Casey fue segundo y Pedrosa, tercero.

Más atrás, Toni Elías dio una lección, quedando con su Honda “satélite” por delante de la otra oficial, pilotada por Andrea Dovizioso, y también de la Ducati “pata negra” de Hayden. Finalmente el español fue sexto. ¡Qué lástima que se vaya a quedar sin moto para el año que viene seguramente!

“…Norman Ernest Borlaug (March 25, 1914 – September 12, 2009)[1] was an American agronomist, humanitarian, and Nobel laureate, and has been called the father of the Green Revolution.[2] Borlaug was one of only five people to have won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal.[3] He was also a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor. Borlaug’s discoveries have been estimated to have saved over 245 million lives worldwide.[4]

Borlaug received his Ph.D. degree in plant pathology and genetics from the University of Minnesota in 1942. He took up an agricultural research position in Mexico, where he developed semi-dwarf high-yield, disease-resistant wheat varieties.

During the mid-20th century, Borlaug led the introduction of these high-yielding varieties combined with modern agricultural production techniques to Mexico, Pakistan, and India. As a result, Mexico became a net exporter of wheat by 1963. Between 1965 and 1970, wheat yields nearly doubled in Pakistan and India, greatly improving the food security in those nations. These collective increases in yield have been labeled the Green Revolution, and Borlaug is often credited with saving over a billion people from starvation.[5] He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 in recognition of his contributions to world peace through increasing food supply.

Later in his life, he helped apply these methods of increasing food production to Asia and Africa. Borlaug continually advocated the use of his methods and biotechnology to decrease world famine. His work faced environmental and socioeconomic criticisms, including charges that his methods have created dependence on monoculture crops, unsustainable farming practices, heavy indebtedness among subsistence farmers, and high levels of cancer among those who work with agriculture chemicals. “…Today, many of Julian Simon’s views on population and natural resources are so triumphant that they are almost mainstream. No one can rationally look at the evidence today and still claim, for example, that we are running out of food or energy. But those who did not know Julian or of his writings in the 1970s and early 1980s cannot fully appreciate how viciously he was attacked—from both the left and the right. Paul Ehrlich once snarled that Simon’s writings proved that “the one thing the earth will never run out of is imbeciles.” A famous professor at the University of Wisconsin wrote, “Julian Simon could be dismissed as a simpleminded nut case, if his ideas weren’t so dangerous.”

To this day I remain convinced that the endless ad hominem attacks were a result of the fact that—try as they would—Simon’s critics never once succeeded in puncturing holes in his data or his theories. What ultimately vindicated his theories was that the doomsayers’ predictions of global famine, $100 a barrel oil, nuclear winter, catastrophic depletion of the ozone layer, falling living standards, and so on were all discredited by events. For example, the year 2000 is almost upon us, and we can now see that the direction in which virtually every trend of human welfare has moved has been precisely the opposite of that predicted by Global 2000. By now Simon and Kahn’s contrarian conclusions in The Resourceful Earth look amazingly prescient.

The ultimate embarrassment for the Malthusians was when Paul Ehrlich bet Simon $1,000 in 1980 that five resources (of Ehrlich’s choosing) would be more expensive in 10 years. Ehrlich lost: 10 years later every one of the resources had declined in price by an average of 40 percent.

Julian Simon loved good news. And the good news of his life is that, today, the great bogeyman of our time, Malthusianism, has, like communism, been relegated to the dustbin of history with the only remaining believers to be found on the faculties of American universities. The tragedy is that it is the Paul Ehrlichs of the world who still write the textbooks that mislead our children with wrongheaded ideas. And it was Paul Ehrlich, not Julian Simon, who won the MacArthur Foundation’s “genius award.” …”

Durante la mañana de hoy ha tenido lugar en el circuito segoviano Kartpetania un entrenamiento muy especial dad la presencia de la figura actual líder del mundial de motociclismo en categoría de 125 cc, Julian Simón, y uno de los españoles con más proyección y más futuro dentro del motociclismo internacional.

De izda. a dcha. Padre Julian Simón, el piloto Jesús Gil, el piloto Isaac Martín, el piloto Julian Simón, el piloto Ignacio, el gerente del circuito Javier Diez

La cita que se inició a las 9:30 horas tuvo la presencia de dos pilotos segovianos, el actual líder del Campeonato de Velocidad Motocex, Isaac Martín y el ex piloto del Trofeo de Velocidad RACE , Ignacio, que rodaron en excelentes tiempos, incluso el piloto mundialista, Simón, marcó la vuelta rápida del circuito con 56´´6 mejorando en 3 décimas el mejor tiempo del circuito marcado por el subcampeón del Campeonato de España de Supermotard 08, Jhony Hernández, y Martín igualo el tiempo del colombiano en 56´´9.

Con la presencia de Simón, el circuito segoviano, va adquiriendo grandes pilotos que han pasado por sus instalaciones como ya lo hiciese el también piloto mundialista, Álvaro Bautista, al igual que lo hiciera Roldán Rodriguez.

I was reading Reason magazine’s online Hit & Run forum, minding everyone else’s business, when I ran across a story on New York Times columnist and resident anencephalic, Thomas Friedman, waxing positively amorous over the oligarchs of Red China (yep, it still gets the adjective from me). Several commenters averred as how a little totalitarianism can come in handy when fighting global warming, the “greatest threat” to the planet.

But it’s not, of course. The greatest threat comes from people who believe governments and rent-seeking scientists who devise clever computer models to “prove” that This, That, and/or The Other Thing is The Greatest Threat. Doesn’t anyone read H. L. Mencken anymore? You know, the constant stream of “gremlins” by which the government scares people into accepting its protection, for just a smidgen (more) of liberty. Come on! Let’s make a deal!

Government, quite clearly, is a protection racket.

At any rate—that’s right, whether slow or fast—those same kind of computer models and that same kind of thinking led that tenured moron Paul Ehrlich to predict, in his 1970s screed The Population Bomb, death by starvation for 50 to 100 million people—and he meant Americans, in the 1980s! To this day he’s still a hero of the hero-besotted left. Unbelievable. Even after Julian Simon serially kicked his flabby ass with that sequence of commodity bets. (Don’t remember that? Never heard about it? That’s why there’s Google.)

Perhaps we should call it the Malthus Syndrome, that tendency to freeze science, facts, and trends and project them into the future. This entirely leaves out human imagination and inventiveness, as well as some highly effective skullduggery and manipulation.

I’ve noticed that even in the Skeptical Inquirer—as well as Skeptic, edited by the libertarian Michael Shermer—such ideologues are rarely skeptical of their own biases, pet peeves, and lovingly tended dogmas. I love the mags, as they thoroughly debunk the Sylvia Brownes of the world along with recovered memories, Bigfoot, UFOs, and moral panics. That said, the majority of the writers and readers (judging from the great letters sections) are run-of-the-mill, doctrinaire, control-tripping collectivists who really, honestly, sincerely know how to run your life better than you do. So, gosh darn it, will you kindly get out of the way and let Friedman & Co. get on with the job of Saving The Planet!

I can’t remember where I heard it (if you know, tell me so; I think it may have been sci-fi) but it went something like this: “Whenever I hear that a nation has ‘progressed past the need for material things’ and achieved a state of ‘peace and plenty’—I always wonder where the death camps are.”

The Morning Run

Jorge Lorenzo cut Rossi’s lead to half after winning the Indianapolis MotoGP. Seperate crashes involving Rossi and Pedrosa earlier in the race put both of them out of contention, though Pedrosa did manage a 10th place finish. Starting 2nd on the grid, Lorenzo capitalised on his rivals’ mistakes to stay in contention for the MotoGP title. Meanwhile, 250 cc championship leader Aoyama came in a close second to the Italian Simoncelli to maintain his overall lead in the championship. The Italian will go into the history books as the only driver to have ever won a 250 race at the Indianapolis circuit as the race last year was cancelled last year due and bad weather and the class change is due next year. The 125 cc class saw a maiden winner in Pol Espargaro (Derbi Racing). The Spainard converted his front row start to a chequered flag thanks to some brilliant riding at the brickyard. Con la caída de Jorge Lorenzo (segunda consecutiva, tras la de Donington) se nos ha acabado el Mundial. Al menos, el de Moto G.P.

Con Rossi a 50 puntos de ventaja sobre Lorenzo, y con sólo 6 carreras restantes (300 puntos en juego), las matemáticas nos dirán que aún se le puede vencer, pero la experiencia y la lógica nos dice que es misión imposible…

En 125 c.c. venció justamente un Nico Terol que ya venía mereciendo subirse a lo más alto del podio desde hace tiempo, y esta vez lo ha conseguido. Ya tenía ganas yo de ver ganar a este chaval, que a mí particularmente es el que más me gusta de la categoría.

En segunda posición entró Julián Simón, quien -inteligentemente- no arriesgó más de la cuenta intentando ganar, y se afianza así aún más en su liderato, siendo un más que probable campeón del Mundial de 125c.c.

En 250 c.c., Álvaro Bautista consiguió acercarse en 3 puntitos al líder, Hiroshi Aoyama, quedando tercero y cuarto respectivamente, pero a mí me pareció un resultado un poco pobre, cuando debería haber ganado. Sin embargo, esto lo hizo una vez más Marco Simoncelli, y si no fuera porque empezó muy mal a temporada, otro gallo les cantaría a los otros dos… Y que no se confíen, que ya se acerca peligrosamente, y si en el caso de Jorge Lorenzo en Moto GP yo decía que es casi imposible, en este caso sí pienso que puede pillarles. Ya veremos.

Desde luego, 250 c.c. va a acabar siendo la categoría que más emoción va a mantener hasta el final de temporada.

El detalle más tonto de la temporada se lo ha marcado también Bautista, quien haciendo un caballito al pasar por meta, se cayó hacia atrás destrozando la moto. Va a tener que afinar un poquito más si pretende ganar el campeonato. Y yo que pensaba que esto sólo les pasaba a los macarras…

Por cierto, que el año que viene Bautista correrá en Moto GP vestido de azul celeste para el equipo Rizzla Suzuki, sustituyendo a Vermeulen. Ha preferido esto (subir de categoría en un equipo oficial) a seguir con el Team Aspar, que también tendrá su equipo en la categoría reina, pero con una moto Ducati “satélite”. Él sabrá lo que hace.

Y en Moto GP ya sabemos lo que ha ocurrido. Cuando vi caer a Lorenzo lo único que pensé fue: “A la mierda el campeonato…”. Y puede que me equivoque, pero mucho me temo que ya hemos visto este año todo lo que teníamos que ver en Moto GP. A Valentino Rossi sólo le queda pasearse por las seis carreras que restan, sin ni siquiera tener la presión de ganar. Aunque él es un tío con la velocidad en las venas, y no le gusta perder ni a las chapas, por lo que seguro que seguirá dando espectáculo sólo porque sí. Además, seguro que le atrae la idea de seguir sumando triunfos para llegar a batir la marca de 122 victorias de Giacomo Agostini. Por ahora va por 102. Y lo batirá, seguro.

Al margen de esto, comentar que una vez más Pedrosa fue de más a menos, que no estuvo a la altura a pesar de encontrarse un segundo puesto de rebote, aunque a una eternidad de Rossi.

Punto y aparte para Toni Elías, que brilló con su tercer puesto por delante de Dovizioso y su Honda oficial, dado que está buscando un hueco en la parrilla del año que viene. Y yo creo que se merece un puesto, pero una reflexión: ¿por qué no ocurría esto a principio de temporada? Siempre veo estas mismas situaciones a mitad de campeonato en los pilotos que están “en el aire”. ¿Culpa de las fábricas o de los pilotos?

Y la cagada del día fue de Mika Kallio, quien sustituía a Casey Stoner en el equipo oficial Ducati, e intentando no hacer un papel demasiado patético, embistió al pobre Marco Melandri que le estaba humillando con su “HayateRacingdelahostia”…
