Controversial Los Angeles Laker star Ron Artest is caught up in an investigation of welfare fraud against his sister Latoya Holmes-Ivey.

Police and housing authorities raided the home Latoya Holmes-Ivey and her three children rent at 336 E. Burgess Ave. Wednesday morning.

Holmes-Ivey is suspected of receiving federal housing assistance, as well as other social services, while receiving financial assistance from her millionaire basketball/rapper brother, and not reporting it.

That is welfare fraud, and is a criminal offense.

A tip came from a former CPA that handled Ron Artest financial affairs a Tennessee-based accounting firm called TriStar Sports and Entertainment.

According to court documents, the ex-employee sent an e-mail to the Housing and Urban Development Office in Indianapolis claiming that TriStar, under the direction of Artest, was using one of his bank accounts to pay all of Holmes-Ivey’s bills.

The man requested to remain anonymous, saying that he could not, in good conscience, fail to report such an ethics infraction.

Ron Artest may want to check the wording in that non-disclosure form that I am certain the former accountant signed, as the accounting firm’s reputation has got to be destroyed by this leak. Confidentiality between their clients is key to their business.

If the former CPA did sign a non-disclosure form, then his disclosure of this information, even if it is to be found true, will be admissible in court, and will be the reason that all charges will be dropped.

Housing authorities said that if the allegations are true, Holmes-Ivey would have used at least $34,000 in taxpayer money she was not entitled to. According to court documents, the ex-employee sent an e-mail to the Housing and Urban Development Office in Indianapolis claiming that TriStar, under the direction of Artest, was using one of his bank accounts to pay all of Holmes-Ivey’s bills.

Housing authorities said that if the allegations are true, Holmes-Ivey would have used at least $34,000 in taxpayer money she was not entitled to.

Note that the investigation and any future charges will be against Holmes-Ivey and NOT Ron Artest. It is the responsibility of the benefactor of Federal aide to report any income or gifts to the Welfare department so they can determine if the individual is actually in need at that time.

The neighbors of Holmes-Ivey said they were skeptical of her, because she used to brag about who her brother was.

“I never understood why she was on assistance because of that, when she told me he was her brother,” said Marcia Taylor. “The people who do need the assistance don’t get it, when the people who don’t need it get a lot of time.”

Dusan Sekic aka Duca is a producer of electronic music from Belgrade, Serbia.

His story began at his age of 12 when he started going to Belgrade techno events and clubbing soon became his way of life. Since his first party he has had a little doubt about what he wanted to do in his life. Around that time he began collecting his first music making gear and started creating some loops and melodies of his own.

Year 2004 was the turning point for this young artist as he finally made his debut release. He dabbled into everything – from acid trance through techno to goa trance – only to reach progressive house and techno, which are the genres he is most into these days. At 2007 he made contact with renowned label Tribal Vision Records, soon became one of their artists and in September 2008 released there his debut album entitled After Dark. The album was an instant success and Duca became well-known name on the progressive and techno scene.

During the last couple of years he has released a big amount of singles and EPs on number of top progressive/techno labels such as Flow / Flow Vinyl, Iboga, Spiral Trax, Lo Kik and many others. He has performed worldwide with his live and DJ sets, including countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Israel, Czech Republic, Germany or Switzerland. He has been much honored to be part of Sao Paulo’s Virada Cultural line-up and considers this festival to be the pinnacle of his career.

Last night I watched in miserable anticipation as a tired, desperate woman purposely worked her way

Last night I watched in miserable anticipation as a tired, desperate woman purposely worked her way to the edge of a cliff, her face blank, her tattered clothing blowing in the wind, and with every intentional step her resolve had no choice but to strengthen. I held a vague notion of what she was about to do, and these thoughts I kept vague only because I feared losing all semblance of my innocence. Despite my efforts, I wanted to yell out to her, I wanted to talk her out of it. She would’ve been all right, she just needed to be made to understand what was going on.
Damn it. I could see the white of her eyes.

I failed to comprehend what might have been going through her mind as she moved closer to the edge. I wanted her to share with me everything that she was feeling, I tried my best to imagine the flash of instances reeling closer to the end, as if rewinding her entire existence readying it for the next person to take her spot. In an instant my time to put myself in her position had run out. Was she maybe considering memories and regrets now billowing through her mind? Where was her family and was she thinking of them? Was her committing suicide selfish?
To me the entire act seemed senseless and I was even a bit surprised to realize that I was angry at this woman for what she was about to do. I was angry at a woman who died in July of 1944.

World War II is taking place on the strategic battlefield of Saipan, an island south of Japan in the Pacific Ocean. Japan has now lost crucial fighting numbers in their last Banzai rush, and by their hand will have indirectly caused the death of thousands of Japanese civilians on the island. July 8 bore witness to one of the most inhuman, desperate acts of war so far. Saipan’s civilians, believing propaganda provided by the Japanese military, veritable lies telling how the captured would be raped, tortured, and slaughtered by allied forces, saw a better option in taking their lives. This falsity of news caused the mass delusion of Saipan island, which then led to the mass suicides off Marpi Point.

Arriving at the edge, stoic in stature, her face emotionless, it almost seemed she was mesmerized by the ocean below, as if eager to dive in and join her brothers and sisters awaiting her at the bottom. But there was no ocean awaiting her jump, her family waited for her, though not necessarily by choice. At the bottom of the 200-foot drop you would find the end result of desperation and misunderstanding, their entrails freeing themselves, an entire sea of corpses laid to waste with the nearby sea ebbing off their stiffened bodies. In the background were the pleads of allied soldiers and interpreters begging everyone to stop and reconsider, the amplified voices promising food, water, shelter, safety, but nearly everyone within earshot would rather opt for the cliffs themselves, their own absurd pride leading them hand in hand straight to their deaths.

Nothing helps.
She jumps without giving it a second thought and the hopes we had for her suddenly plummet faster than we can react.
This isn’t the first time I watch someone die, and I’m certain it won’t be the last. Unlike anything else, death does not become any easier over time.

Each suicide carries its own story, and these stories then become the disconcerting haze proliferating the scene. To have to watch these parents slit their children’s wrists before helping them jump off the cliff, to have to watch the body of a boy float face-down in the nearby sea, followed by the body of a woman, which in turn is followed by the body of a man. There are families that have huddled close together only to pull the pin on a grenade held close to their chests, parents who think they are doing their children a favor by drowning them shortly before drowning themselves in the contrasting beauty and warmth of the Pacific Ocean.

This is the reality of war. There is nothing glamorous about war. It’s not an experience any human being could ever begin to forget, and only trying to erase these memories would lead to insanity. Countless lives are lost every day on the field of battle. Out there, lives that had no reason to dissipate leave us, and on the home front, there are lives that will never see the disastrous consequences of mortar fire, IEDs, or mass suicides off an American cliff.
Unlucky are those facing off with the great American military.

As I consider everything, I feel guilty being thankful.

Blondie was the most commercially successful band to emerge from the much vaunted punk/new wave movement of the late ’70s. The group was formed in New York City in August 1974 by singer Deborah Harry (b. July 1, 1945, Miami), formerly of Wind in the Willows, and guitarist Chris Stein (b. Jan. 5, 1950, Brooklyn) out of the remnants of Harry’s previous group, the Stilettos. The lineup fluctuated over the next year. Drummer Clement Burke (b. Nov. 24, 1955, New York) joined in May 1975. Bassist Gary Valentine joined in August. In October, keyboard player James Destri (b. Apr. 13, 1954) joined, to complete the initial permanent lineup. They released their first album, Blondie, on Private Stock Records in December 1976. In July 1977, Valentine was replaced by Frank Infante.

In August, Chrysalis Records bought their contract from Private Stock and in October reissued Blondie and released the second album, Plastic Letters. Blondie expanded to a sextet in November with the addition of bassist Nigel Harrison (born Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, England), as Infante switched to guitar. Blondie broke commercially in the U.K. in March 1978, when their cover of Randy and the Rainbows’ 1963 hit “Denise,” renamed “Denis,” became a Top Ten hit, as did Plastic Letters, followed by a second U.K. Top Ten, “(I’m Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear.” Blondie turned to U.K. producer/songwriter Mike Chapman for their third album, Parallel Lines, which was released in September 1978 and eventually broke them worldwide. “Picture This” became a U.K. Top 40 hit, and “Hanging on the Telephone” made the U.K. Top Ten, but it was the album’s third single, the disco-influenced “Heart of Glass,” that took Blondie to #1 in both the U.K. and the U.S. “Sunday Girl” hit #1 in the U.K. in May, and “One Way or Another” hit the U.S. Top 40 in August. Blondie followed with their fourth album, Eat to the Beat, in October. Its first single, “Dreaming,” went Top Ten in the U.K., Top 40 in the U.S. The second U.K. single, “Union City Blue,” went Top 40. In March 1980, the third U.K. single from Eat to the Beat, “Atomic,” became the group’s third British #1. (It later made the U.S. Top 40.)

Meanwhile, Harry was collaborating with German disco producer Giorgio Moroder on “Call Me,” the theme from the movie American Gigolo. It became Blondie’s second transatlantic chart topper. Blondie’s fifth album, Autoamerican, was released in November 1980, and its first single was the reggaeish tune “The Tide Is High,” which went to #1 in the U.S. and U.K. The second single was the rap-oriented “Rapture,” which topped the U.S. pop charts and went Top Ten in the U.K. But the band’s eclectic style reflected a diminished participation by its members – Infante sued, charging that he wasn’t being used on the records, though he settled and stayed in the lineup. But in 1981, the members of Blondie worked on individual projects, notably Harry’s gold-selling solo album, KooKoo. The Best of Blondie was released in the fall of the year. The Hunter, Blondie’s sixth and last new album, was released in July 1982, preceded by the single “Island of Lost Souls,” a Top 40 hit in the U.S. and U.K. “War Child” also became a Top 40 hit in the U.K., but The Hunter was a commercial disappointment. At the same time, Stein became seriously ill with the genetic disease pemphigus. As a result, Blondie broke up in October 1982, with Deborah Harry launching a part-time solo career while caring for Stein, who eventually recovered. In 1998, the original line-up of Harry, Stein, Destri and Burke reunited to tour Europe, their first series of dates in 16 years; a new LP, No Exit, followed early the next year.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy arriving at the TV show ‘Vivement Dimanche’ in Paris, France on November 4, 2009

Bio from the French Magazine Paris Match

Though the French profess a certain disdain for Sarkozy’s unpresidential style, they clearly cannot get enough. “Carla has led many lives,” the noted journalist Christine Ockrent, whose companion, Bernard Kouchner, is the French foreign minister, tells me. “She’s a kind of alpha female. She was never a courtesan like Pamela Harriman—she was more like a female Don Juan.” Carla Bruni is no stranger to privilege.

In the opening scene of her sister Valeria’s semi-autobiographical film, It’s Easier for a Camel … , the female protagonist goes to church to confess, “I am rich—I am very, very rich.” Bruni was born into one of the industrial dynasties in Turin. The family fortune came from the ceat company, which produced electrical cable. Alberto Bruni-Tedeschi, the patriarch, however, was as much a composer and art collector as a capitalist. “He could converse on anything from A to Z,” says a family friend.

Carla’s extroverted mother, Marisa, who appears in Valeria’s films, was a concert pianist. Carla, Valeria, and their brother, Virginio, grew up on a vast estate outside the city. Carla studied piano, violin, and guitar. “Ours were not the kind of parents who would spend time with children,” she tells me. But neither, she adds, were they interested “in the power of money. Maybe because my parents were artists.

I remember that every time my father had to choose between increasing his business and going to the museum he would go to the museum, and I think that was transmitted to us.” In 1975, when the Red Brigades were kidnapping wealthy individuals, Carla’s family moved to Paris, where she attended an Italian school and received a French baccalaureate. Her parents expected her to continue her studies, but she soon tired of the 37 Métro stops it took to get to classes on art and architecture, and she couldn’t wait to be on her own. So when her brother’s girlfriend, a model, told her to try modeling, she made her move. “What I wanted was to be free, independent of my parents,” says Carla. “Modeling is a fast-acting job—right away you get to work, and you learn in two or three months by working.” That became her pattern: take on a big challenge, learn fast, and land on top.

Carla Bruni Sarkozy on the web

Though its bugging from time to time since its launch thanks to high traffic, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy website,carlabrunisarkozy.org, made its ranks within a bunch of other highly read political news websites.Among them the artistically acclaimed Segoléne Royal’s website, she was a presidential candidate for 2007.Club Villepin.fr, the former Prime Minister website and Elysée twitter account ..etc

A start with bugs and media coverage, discovering a design with pastel colors, clean, inspiring glossy upscale, the French quickly drawn the parallel with “ Your desired Future’ Ségoléne Royal website which has caused an overnight media firestorm. But not so fast, the comparison stoped at the design similarities, Segolene Royal being a left -wing politician as opposed to Carla Bruni Sarkozy whom married a right- wing politician.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy performs during the Mandela Day

While the singer has already a site dedicated to her albums, this new portal, created by Zeni, the agency’s Web Keyrus group, leans on her other hats – each with its own color code: Ambassador activities for the Global Funds against AIDS, those of her foundation which are aimed to “facilitate access to culture, education and knowledge to fight against social inequalities, and Finally, Carla, first lady.

It gives a homepage where we can pretty much find everything from an article listing the “10 things to know about AIDS,” to another on the culture in prison or the story of her day with Michelle Obama in Pittsburgh and an interview with Jean-Paul Gautier, etc..

“In many parts of the world, when one hears the name” Carla “, it is likely to be Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. But since December 15, 2007, where she was seen with the president, its has dramatically increased, she’s more popular as ever.

This is a video of me (sitting in the lawn chair at the start) and my little brother, Mathew (behind

This is a video of me (sitting in the lawn chair at the start) and my little brother, Mathew (behind the shed yelling bear noises at the start).
I posted this video on YouTube about July 2008 (the summer before ninth grade, I believe. I was thirteen, Mathew was … nine, I think?).
It was about a year and a half ago, I believe. It feels like it was longer, though.
There’s been a lot that’s happened since then.

I started high school.
I won an art award.
I went through 9 exams.
I went camping at a beautiful provincial park with the student’s council.
I gained like, 10 of some of my best friends in the world at pathfinders.
I got a facebook account.
I got a blog.
I’ve attempted to finish writing several novels.
I got an iPod.
I went ‘out west’ for the third time in my life.
I visited Vancouver for the first time in my life.
I dipped my feet in the Pacific ocean.
I went to my first high school dance.
I went to Niagara Falls on a (geography class) field trip with some really great people and got in trouble with the teachers because we brought too much sugary pop and chips for our own good and all had sugar rushes at midnight.
I had the time of my life in Dinner Theatre.
I discovered a secret passageway in my school’s proproom hidden behind shelves.
I invented the word ‘AWESOMAZING’.
I’ve made a zillion more people laugh.
I joined my city’s youth council.
I met the mayor.
I discovered Twilight a few weeks after the above video was filmed.
I’ve come to terms with myself. (I am not so ashamed of who I am anymore. Because I am awesomazing.)
I spent a night in a haunted hotel.
I contacted a ghost. (One of my BFF’s birthday party. Her place was haunted so we pretended to be like TAPS.)
I sang ‘Tomorrow’ (from Annie) at the top of my lungs in the middle of a forest while cleaning an outhouse.
I sang ‘Tomorrow’ (from Annie) at the top of my lungs in the middle of a forest with some of my very best friends.
I have learned that everything has flaws but that doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful and perfect by all means.
My kitten turned three years old.
I discovered that I truly would prefer world peace over all the money in the world anyday.
I have done way more than I ever thought I would and today it has occured to me that the past two years of my life have been worth every second, and I wouldn’t change anything at all.
I really truly wouldn’t.
