Cashmere jumpers are a winter must have. To keep warm, everyone should have one of these sweaters.

Cashmere jumpers are a winter must have. To keep warm, everyone should have one of these sweaters. The jumper style is becoming more and more trendy. People are wearing them over leggings and pairing them with cute knee high boots. If you are looking for something different this winter, consider a jumper. But, don’t think about buying the cotton jumpers. Cotton jumpers, while cute, will not keep you warm. With temperatures below 40 degrees, only cashmere will keep you warm. Wool is a good alternative, but it is not a comfortable material to wear. Even though you wear a jumper over a t-shirt or sweater, you can still feel the wool. When you move around, you can feel it on your body and it can rub against your legs or arms. Therefore, look for cashmere instead.

A great color for a jumper is black or white or something neutral like grey. This will allow you to match everyone with that jumper. You won’t have to worry about the striped shirt or the bright red or orange sweater that you have. Instead, you can easily throw the jumper over to make a complete outfit. Plus, a neutral color won’t stand out too much and you can have fun with the things you pair it with. Bright, fun accessories, different colored socks, even fun scarves. Mixing and matching accessories is a lot easier and cheaper than changing jumpers.

Cashmere jumpers are made by many different designers these days. They are much more trendy and fitted and you will find them in all sorts of price ranges. Look in department stores and search online for the ideal jumper for you. Make sure that the one you find isn’t too long and that it comes up above your knees. You don’t want the item to weigh you down. You can also add a belt to make it look more fitted and flattering on your body.

Ha. So yesterday was pretty good. Monique and I went to our cousin’s baptism. Which actually was boring and uncomfortable. There something about being in a room of 100 Arabic and not a lick of English spoken that rubs me the wrong way. But, at least we had fun getting all dressed up and taking pictures.

Then, we went to alvaro’s party. Which was awesome. Hah(: first we were just hanging out and talking and stuff. And then, I gave a go at Mexican dancing and I decided that if I am going to marry a Mexican man, I should learn how to dance. Since I can already speak Spanish. Kinda. Sorta. Hah
But then it got late and we got coooold. So we brought like ten blankets in his jumper (yes, he had a jumper at his 18th birthday party) and attempted to spend the night in there. It lasted until like 3, but it was just tooo tooo TOO cold. Brrrrrr.

And his brother Andy is oh so funny. Ha. That was way tooo funny. He made me forget how cold I was and remember I had to pee. And that look he gave Monique (or shall I say Shaniqua) was oh so classic. I will NEVER forget that.

Oh and Alvaro, I’m still angry at you for telling you-know-who that he could you-know-what. Ew. If you knew I would say no, why didn’t you just tell him for me

I’m thinking about going to waterpolo practice tomorrow. But, I’m not really sure about it. Hm :\

Well okay bye.

Part 2 of the baby product reviews. Most of these are for 6 months and up…but some of them will fall into the gap between 3-6 months.

Exersaucer: We had one given to us. It is the Baby Einstein’s one. Lexi loves it. It is the thing that is most entertaining to her. She will play with it the longest out of anything.

Kick n Drive: Made by Fisher Price. Lexi had this before the exersaucer. It was great because all she had to do was kick her feet to make the lights come on and the music play. Once she got a little older she realized it also had toys up top that she could pull to make the lights and music come on.

Teething Tablets/Drops: Most of these products are homeopathic, so there is no worry about what your baby in ingesting. The teething tablets worked great, but are kind of hard to make sure they stay at the front of the mouth and don’t get swallowed whole. The drops were great for times when she didn’t want me to hold my finger in her mouth to rub orajel on there.

Dex Babyfood Processor: This is the food processor I bought to make babyfood. I absolutely love it. It works wonderfully. As long as you have the right amount of liquid in the container it works great. It’s super fast. I like the fact that it’s a small container so it’s easier to scrape everything out of it and clean it up.

Gerber baby spoons: I prefer the ones that turn white when they get too hot. Just so you don’t burn baby’s mouth after microwaving something. I bought some other “Munchkin” brand spoons. They are too deep so Lexi can’t get everything out of them.

Bumbo: We love our bumbo seat! Lexi was pretty small when she first started sitting in it. It gave the alternative for her to have somewhere to sit up instead of laying on the floor or in the bouncy seat. Now that she’s a little bigger we take it with us when we go out to eat. We just sit her in it right there on the table. She can eat or play with her toys, and it keeps her way more satisfied than if she was sitting in the carseat the whole time.

Toys: Toys are kinda up to your own taste. Lexi has just now gotten interested in toys. She will play with “link a doos” all day long. She has a couple of rattles that she really likes. She enjoys anything she can get in her mouth. While playing with her cousins this week I discovered they had a ball that had lights and music that she really liked. She played on her belly for a long time just staring at it. So, that will be something I will have to look into.

Jumper: We’re still looking into what kind of jumper we want to get. There is the type that you hang in the doorway or the separate ones that are about the size of an exersaucer. We’ll probably be leaning towards the doorway one because we have a limited amount of space here. But, it will all depend on how hard it is to take it on and off the doorway.

Highchair: Once again, this all depends on your taste. Lexi does fine for the most part eating in her bouncy seat or the bumbo seat. We do have a highchair. It’s just one that hooks onto your regular dining room chair. I opted for that vs a stand alone high chair because of the lack of space here. We have used the highchair a few times and Lexi likes it fine. It sits quite a bit higher than our other chairs though, so I have to hold my arm up really high to feed her while she’s in it. So, most of the time I just feed her in the bouncy seat.

Well, that’s all I can think of for now. If I think of anything else I’ll be sure to update! I hope these are helpful tips for you all!

edit: I added some pics to help show what I’m talking about.

I have just come from the madness of Melbourne CBD, roads are blocked, tram routes diverted, people

I have just come from the madness of Melbourne CBD, roads are blocked, tram routes diverted, people everywhere, all because of the Myer Christmas Parade.
Christmas? It’s only 14th of bloody November!
Trees and decorations are up and invites to work Christmas parties are flowing in. Is it just me or is Christmas getting earlier each year?
Anyway…talking of Christmas or “the holidays” as Americans put it, I grabbed a copy of IK Holiday Gifts recently. I am not really planning to knit gifts this Xmas but something about this issue grabbed my attention. I think it was mainly this pattern, Tapestry Mittens.. Of course, it’s 30 degrees here today and I want to knit mittens! But ever since knitting the Selbu Modern hat, I have been a little smitten with fair isle. I walk to work each day and some mittens would be quite useful in those cold Melbourne morns. This issue has 57 patterns, which is pretty good value and lots of nice socks and other little patterns like scarfs.
But check out this for a jumper to mentally scar the children in your life!
It’s a bit Bridget Jones Christmas jumper, innit?

I am also quite taken with the Tilted Slouch hat. There are also a bunch of blokey jumpers but not to my blokes tastes.

There is also a few Christmas decorations, but I will talk about knitted Xmas decorations next time….

Those of you who were unfortunate enough to do 218 last year, also known as ‘The Roland’

Those of you who were unfortunate enough to do 218 last year, also known as ‘The Roland’, will remember the somewhat legendary Zara Zaddy. Also known as Zaddy, The Zadster, that old hag etc etc. You may also remember that same jumper she wore, week in, week out, with that dreadful pattern. Well, as it happens, my cirefe teacher also wore a jumper strikingly similar to that modelled by Zaddy. It was scary, and quite funny. She has, and infact most of this country have, the worst dress sense in the world. She has previously worn brown sans-culottes with pink socks, totally defeating the object of sans-culottes. She also had a knitted pink jumper on to match. Bleugh. And these ‘harem’ pants, as I belive they’re called. They are vile. So vile that I wonder what they would do if they had to straddle a bollard. Quite simply: they would die.

Anyway, on a more “something to put in my journal” note, yesterday in Cirefe, the debate topic was all about ‘jeudi soir à Rennes’. Thursdays here are when most of the student population [that is to say, most of the population of Rennes] go out. This is because most of them bugger off home for the weekend on Friday, so Thursday is the logical night to go out. Despite bars having to shut at 1am. This country doesn’t make sense sometimes. I don’t do this Thursday thing; I have an 8h15 start on Friday. Something I skived again today. Oops.

originally published in the middlebury campus Jumper, the latest offering from indie-director turned

originally published in the middlebury campus

Jumper, the latest offering from indie-director turned big budget schlock merchant Doug Liman, is a mess. The story, adapted from Steven Gould’s novel, is about David Rice (Hayden Christenson, exuding all the charisma of a bowl of dehydrated potato flakes) who, at the age of thirteen, discovers he can teleport after he falls into a frozen river only to find himself moments later in Ann Arbor, Michigan’s public library. He is a Jumper, part of an elite group of people who can teleport anywhere on the planet. Wait a second; doesn’t that make him a teleporter, though? It really doesn’t matter, this film doesn’t quibble over details (or plot or characters for that matter). Anyway, Jumpers are at war with the Paladins, religious fanatics who will stop at nothing to rid the world of Jumpers. Roland (Samuel L. Jackson) is one of these Paladins. He becomes obsessed with stopping our intrepid young hero, no matter what. That about does it for plot.

I will give Jumper credit for being a little daring with its main character. It doesn’t take the easy way by portraying David as a superhero who feels a need to help others with his remarkable power. In fact the film even jokes at this possibility early on when we are shown a TV report about people being trapped in a flood. David watches this with a coy smile plastered on his mug as he grabs an umbrella and teleports off to London to hook up with a girl he meets in bar, whom he then leaves in the middle of the London night to ensure he is back in his own bed by midnight. What a guy. The problem that presents itself is that this doesn’t quite go far enough. David isn’t mean enough to be an anti-hero, nor is he magnanimous enough to be a hero. He is just a self-centered, bland, brat.

This could be the performance of Hayden Christenson, (proving that it wasn’t entirely George Lucas’ fault the young Darth Vader was a whiny bore) who is so soul crushingly wooden he makes dead trees look lively by comparison. Or the fault might lie in the dialog put into the characters’ mouths. “I don’t need you to tell me everything; just don’t lie to me,” David’s girlfriend (The O.C.’s Rachael Bilson) says with the conviction of an eighth grader reading Macbeth.

In the end, though, the entire film feels flat. As a thriller it doesn’t thrill. The action sequences aren’t particularly exciting because they mostly involve people teleporting away from one another. Liman, whose skill as a director is creating action set pieces, creates action set pieces that lack in action. He fails to build any kind of tension or the sense of mortal danger that is necessary for an action film. If the characters get into trouble the audience knows they can just teleport away. They try to solve this by giving the Paladins electronically charged Billy clubs that render a Jumper unable to teleport, but of course these clubs stop working on our protagonists during the films climax.

The film fails at romance, too. Christenson and Bilson have absolutely zero chemistry. This leaves the audience shifting uncomfortably as the usually vivacious Bilson flounders while valiantly trying to light a spark inside the dullard.

The whole film feels like everyone, stars and filmmakers alike, were sleepwalking through the production. Liman’s pacing is sluggish and the ending feels less like an ending and more like a sigh of futility. Even Samuel L. Jackson, a man who oozes cool out of his pores like sweat, is stiff, awkward, and oddly subdued as he delivers lines like, “There are always consequences,” with laughable seriousness. He doesn’t bring the manic energy necessary to make the part worth remembering. It is a problem that plagues the entire film; no one brings any kind of energy, thus rendering the entire film not worth remembering. Or seeing, for that matter.
