Knowing if the opposite sex has interest in you is something very difficult for one or the other to explain, but with my video tutorial and this article should help those of you who have the same vague questions of “Does he/she like me?”

Girls:

• If a guy likes you, HE WILL CONTACT YOU! I see this a whole lot about a guy not responding back to the girl’s phone calls or texts. If he doesn’t respond, he isn’t interested in you. Sorry. That means, you need to move on from this guy and not waste any more of your time.  IMPORTANT! GIRLS, do not call or text a guy continuously if he does not respond to you. I see this a whole lot where girls will continue to call or text a guy even if they don’t respond. It’s only making you look bad and really pulling the guy away from you. It shows your needy and clingy.
• If a guy responds to your texts within the same day or 2 days, he’s interested. My boyfriend texted me the same night we met and told me to have a wonderful evening, hoping I made it in safely and to hopefully hang out with me soon. If a guy offers to hang out with just YOU and HIM, he likes you.

Overall, just let the guy do the work… that is what their supposed to do, right?! 

Guys:

• If she shows interest by talking a lot to you, smiling or texting back to you quickly. She likes you, so don’t ask, DO SOMETHING! Like the guy on Zombieland said, “Nut up, or shut up!” and that is exactly what you need to do. Man up, and go talk to her. The squeaky wheel always gets the grease. It will also show girls that you are a confident, mature guy.
• If she ditches you countless times, she’s just not interested in you… sorry! I have been known to do this because I know the guy likes me and I don’t like him. If he continues to bother me about going out, I continue to make excuses and ditch. If i’m interested in a guy, I will make sure to take the very first opportunity to go out on a date with him!

The “Friends” Category:

I’ve also seen a lot on Y! Answers about when a girl/guy says they want to be friends, what do I do? Well, you don’t try asking them out… That’s for sure! Obviously you have already given them clear signals that made them tell you right away that they are not interest and want to be friends. So, don’t make it even more awkward and bring it up again. They were nice enough to let you know and obviously care about your friendship. Now, it’s whether or not YOU want to take on the relationship as “just friends” or move on from being friends (because you only wanted to be friends to like them and hopefully date).

I want Jack but he’s not mine and I’m not getting a third chance . I know I’ll probably end up being his friend and talking to him even though I know I’m going to regret it and hate myself for it . So, it’s less than a month until I come home! While I could not be more excited, it’s also a little sad because Josh will not be making the trip with me. He comes home a little over a week after me and since we’ve been married it will be the longest we have been apart. I think the longest we’ve been apart before was when he was in Africa. I think we handle the distance well, it’s just not something I look forward to. Plus he’ll be returning to Grenada in January a lot earlier than I am so again I’ll end up missing him.

I guess I shouldn’t complain. I mean I really shouldn’t expect to have both the things that I want right now. I want to be home ( although I do love the beach here ) and I want to have more time with my husband. However, school takes away all of that. I know things aren’t going to get any easier when he starts residency either. It’s hard. I love Josh so much and while we spend a lot of time in the same apartment, he’s almost always studying so it’s not exactly husband and wife time together.

Earlier tonight was great though. He took a break from studying and watched my favorite movie with me, Just Friends. It’s actually one of the first movies we saw together at the theater when we started dating. It was just nice to have that relaxing kind of time with him. I hate that he’s so stressed out and there’s nothing I can do. I clean and I cook and try to make sure the house is somewhat accessible for him to find what he needs. He has so many papers lying about, it’s easy for him to lose a few now and then. But all this doesn’t really help him. I can’t study for him. Even if I could I doubt he’d want me to.

On a happier note, I honestly can’t wait for Christmas. Josh and I are so poor so presents will probably either suck or be non-existent for some people from us. And I apologize in advance. We’ll probably only be able to get things for our immediate families. I just want to see some snow. And not just that I want to drive in some snow! Man, I just want to drive period. I miss my car. I miss going on 695 and just listening to music while I cruised. And I miss the music! Never again will I complain about Baltimore’s radio stations. After months of only steel drums and club songs I’m ready to hear some overproduced and overplayed rock and pop.

I went to Limes twice this week. I feel bad because I really want to help out but I just have a lot of trouble with the children touching me. They’re so sweet but they don’t have a great idea of personal space. Part of the reason I’m doing it is to help me surround myself with things that I have problems with. Some days I’m fine and don’t even think about it. This week was definitely hard. I had to force myself to go the second day and I feel bad because a little sat on my lap and I just had to move her off of me.

I’m usually better with the orphans because they just look so lost for love. It’s easier to push it to the back of my head.

Still though, I was feeling bad about that but then I went to the movies with Heather and Julia last night. We saw the remake of Fame ( I don’t recommend anyone see it sorry ) and I realized that just because I’m not doing as well as I’d like with certain things I’m doing better with others. I used to not even be able to sit through a movie in the theater. I didn’t even go to the theater for the longest time! Since meeting Josh though I’ve loved it. I still fidget a bit but I enjoy the experience. I can’t believe how cheap it is to go to the movies here. It’s basically 3$ US. Candy is maybe 80 cents. I don’t think I’ve had Skittles that cheap since I was in elementary school.

Anyway, everybody keep Josh in their thoughts. He’s having more issues with his laptop and while he also has mine to use it’s very frustrating for  him because he already has all his work and files on his.

PS, I found out the other day that the owner of that sweet dog that’s been hanging out around our apartment all the time ( Bella ) gave her up. The dog that came with her is getting adopted by the girl downstairs but nobody seems to want Bella and it breaks my heart. She has the saddest eyes you will ever see on a dog. I wish Josh and I could take her in but we’d have to bring her back on breaks with us and I couldn’t put a dog through that kind of travel. We also can’t afford a pet right now. But still, it breaks my heart. She really is the sweetest.

Just friends. Only friends. Nothin’ is ever gonna happen beyond friendship. We’re never, ever going to have sex. Get it? Just friends.

How do you go about telling a guy post-date that while there is friendship potential, but absolutely no chemistry or physical attraction (at least on your part)? Did we already sacrifice the friendship bit by suggesting the possibility of more by being on a “date”? Should you just come out and tell him that he’s an interesting person, but not your romantic type?

On Saturday I went out on a “thing,” which translates to me not really wanting to go out on a date, but wanting to get out of the house. We met for coffee. I made sure to show up early so there was no uncomfortable who’s buying the coffee moment. I even was careful to go with the unkempt look: no make-up, hair hastily pulled back, a baggy sweater, and Chucks. And The Triathlete shows up and he’s dorky, but athletic; socially awkward, but a lot of similar interests. Immediately I’m thinking this is someone I could catch the odd movie with, BUT the entire time I’m making eyes at a guy across the room and thinking of this other guy I had a date with.

Of course The Triathlete is interested and took notes of all the movies, books, music, etc. that I mentioned. He texted me the following day and I waited 24-hours to reply. He then texted back to check my plans for the weekend and I really ought to text back indicating that I’ll need a rain check. And now I want to tell him that he’s an interesting guy and I’d like to be friends with him. (Just friends.)

So I’ve recently learned that two of my guy friends, were only “friends” because they thought if they stuck around long enough I’d eventually fuck them. Or so it seems, as they have both blocked me out of their lives in some form when they realized that I was serious about Mr. B.

I, personally, don’t think I led either of them on. Actually, I know I didn’t lead one of them on, because I had in the past used the phrase “nothing is ever going to happen between us,” word-for-word. I told him again. And then again. And then again. And then this last time, when I guess he finally got it.

The thing is, I don’t think it’s as simple as “women and men cannot be just friends.” I know this isn’t true, I know they can be, and are. I just choose the wrong men to befriend, as I seem to be better at it than they are. It’s possible that it is a gender difference, that women generally don’t have to try as hard to get sex, and when a guy puts all this supposed effort into getting close to a woman and then doesn’t get any, maybe to him it’s a waste of time.

As it stands, I think I can feel more led on than they can. I feel that I beat the delusional dead horse with the 2×4, while they pretended to be something they weren’t.

I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in a long time.

Poor Ryan Reynolds, the guy tries so hard to impress a girl and everything keeps going wrong.

Chris Marquette did a hilarious job playing the bratty brother who constantly fights with Ryan.

In reality throughout the movie, he’s such a jerk and your kind of happy when the bad things happen to him.

But then you want him to wake up and smell the coffee and learn to be himself again.

The guy she really likes in the first place.

I’d have to say awesome directing, editing and dialog in the movie. The producer should make more funny comedies like this one, it was perfect!

Last week I wrote about the friend zone, that tricky little no-man’s land where people who are deemed unfit to date , but cool enough to keep around, are sent by those who will not date them.  For those in the friend zone who still have feelings for the one who cast them aside, there is one situation that is feared above all others  – meeting your former flame’s new significant other.  Those in the friend zone like to think that, were they ever to find themselves in this situation, they would handle it with grace and aplomb, proving that they are the bigger person.  However, more likely, you wind up  standing on a street corner, cigarette in hand, realizing your life has become a Taylor Swift song as you scream to your friend on the other end of the line, “This is my nightmare!”  before confessing everything to your former flame.

I should know, because that is what happened to me Friday night.  Ever since the night more than 7 months ago when this guy told me that, while he wasn’t interested in dating me anymore, he hoped we could still be friends, I have tried steadfastly and sincerely to convince myself that I was perfectly fine with the arrangement.  I talked to him and hung out with him, traded dating war stories with him, and thought that, even if things hadn’t worked out exactly the way I wanted them to, on some level, they were working.  I had gotten a new friend out of the deal, and new friends aren’t easy to come by either these days.  I even knew about the new girl, and could deal with that – or so I thought.  Turns out I could only deal with her so long as I was only hearing about her secondhand, and not sitting face-to-face at a bar with her.

Suddenly the lid that I had kept so neatly screwed on all the emotions bottled up inside me popped, and everything came pouring out.  While I luckily kept it together long enough to not make a scene in the bar, I did wind up confessing my feelings the next day.  He had no idea any of this was going on, either because I’m a better actress than I think I am, or because he’s not  particularly perceptive (most likely a combination of both.)  At any rate, a sort of stalemate has been called while I try to figure out what the hell to do with my life.

The fact is, though, that in this situation, there is no perfect solution.  I could gather up what’s left of my dignity, and walk away, but then I lose a friend (and whatever I think of this guy in a romantic sense, I do believe that he is a good, true friend).  I could put my big-girl panties on and deal with it, continuing to be a good friend to him while I wait for the time when my feelings finally cool to a reasonable temperature, not matter how difficult it is.  I could pray for the day when he looks at me and sees someone who could be more than a friend, although I think it would be in vain, not because I don’t believe in prayer, but because I don’t believe people change.  No matter what the movies and storybooks and Taylor Swift tells us, once someone puts you in the friend zone, you stay there.  It’s like the Indian caste system; you can’t move up, only down.

There are those who may say that I put myself in this position; that I should have told this guy “Peace out” when I had the chance, rather than hanging on to the promise of what might have been.  However, I honestly thought I had moved on.  There are those who may say that I shouldn’t have let him know he got to me; that, when placed in the friend zone, it’s better to bear one’s inner turmoil with a dignified and aloof fashion.  Unfortunately, I like to bear my inner turmoil in a spectacularly open, dramatic, undignified, messy fashion.

At this point, what’s done is done, and there’s little use in looking at what happened and wishing I had done things differently.  Like all of those friends before me who have found themselves in this position, I can only look ahead, and choose the course of action that is best for me – whatever that may be.

Har inte haft mascara på svinlänge nu. Bara puder eller fondation nu som gäller för mig. Och vad det beror på, ja det kan väl vara allt från slöhet till inget intresse? Men nu när vintern är på ingång så får jag väl fräscha upp sminkväskan lite, för det är ju inga problem? Hähä!

Saturday night in DC was a good night for staying home and avoiding the miserable weather.  It definitely put a damper on enthusiastic statements like, “It’s my birthday everyone, let’s go out and celebrate!”  It had been raining all day and it was a dreary day better suited for staying home and watching movies.  But if you can’t tolerate some bad weather on a friend’s birthday, how much of a friend are you, really? 

It was my friend Leah’s birthday and she invited everyone to a bar in Dupont Circle to celebrate.  It’s interesting how a group of strangers can get together – only knowing one or two people in the group – and end up having spectacular chemistry.  Later in the evening another group claimed the pool table next to ours.  One of the girls was wearing a sash that said, “Birthday Girl” and donned a paper tiara letting the world know two important details: that it was her 21st birthday, and that she was drunk enough to be seen in public wearing a ridiculous paper tiara.  It was an ensemble in the true spirit of the 21st birthday.

It wasn’t long before the two birthday girls began chatting, taking pictures together and sharing a bond that I imagine only a Libra would understand.  When Leah went to the bathroom, I told the rest of her friends, “I feel like we have failed her.  That other girl is walking around like she’s Miss America!  What did we do for Leah?  Bought her a shot?  I’m starting to think we dropped the ball.” 

Of course I was speaking facetiously.  Leah is a decade past her 21st birthday and is not the kind of person to care to aspire to be the center of attention.  She works very hard volunteering her time and energy to raise money for Cancer research.  She has an event coming up this week and one of her friends suggested we do something special for her at the event.  Not enough to take the spotlight away from the cause she’s worked so hard for, but something uniquely for her.  We haven’t yet decided if we’ll get a cake or pitch in for a spa treatment or what form it will take.  But we’ll come up with something to take care of this girl who has done so much to take care of other people. 

Saturday night I finally made it home to my warm, comfy bed; and I felt pretty warm and cozy on the inside, too.  This is one of those things that I love about being single that I don’t experience so much when I’m in a relationship.  None of us have any commitments or expectations, but we are getting together to do something nice for a friend.  Out of genuine affection.  This is something that I think you start to lose when you put so much of yourself into one relationship.  Birthdays and holidays and anniversaries come around and you always try to do something special – with varying degrees of effort depending on the individual. 

I am not suggesting that all gifts between couples are routine and obligatory.  What I am celebrating is the beauty of a gesture where there is no repercussions if you show up empty-handed, no expectation of getting something in return.  Just a genuine, unexpected demonstration that someone has touched your life and made it a little bit better.  It doesn’t make a difference if you are single, attached, married, divorced or widowed; people go out of their way to do nice things for other people all the time.  Yet, I can only speak for myself when I say that it feels so much more rewarding when I focus on relationships with friends and family, or even coworkers who make my job a little bit better just by being there every day.  These are the people in life that rarely ever know how much of a difference they make in our lives.  It is a wonderful feeling to pool your resources with others and let someone know they are appreciated.

Every once in a while, a gal will meet a guy that she knows likes her as a person as well as romantically, however, he refuses to make it happen… He refuses to take that extra step to start something up between them and see how it goes. This is when a gal finds herself trapped in the dreaded Friends Zone!!! :O”

1. The Holidays Are Coming Up And He’s Broke.

Having a significant other generally means that you have to get them a gift for their birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s Day. If he’s broke and legitimately cannot afford a gift for you, he may hold off on the boyfriend/girlfriend status because not getting you a gift will make him seem cheap and embarassing, and he would rather be single than be called cheap.

2. Your Friendship or Business Is More Important

Keep your eyes on the prize!!! You don’t want to jack you career advancement because your now-ex-girlfriend doesn’t want to see your grill around the office. Bite the bullet on this one and get PizAID!!! You can pull a lot more chicks with the money you’ll be getting from this one.

Also, if you expect a certain level of coolness and mental compatibility, close homegirls are hard to find. Beleedat! It’s TOTALLY not worth it to alienate a great gal because she’s sour that y’all aren’t hooking up anymore. But hey… I mean if she begs you, you might just have to do her that solid and hit her off, NAH MEEN?

3. HE Can’t Handle It

A brotha stands to potentially lose some Cool Points if he hooks up with a chick that’s TOO FOYINE and then all that “King Of My Castle” trash he’s been talking about women for YEARS suddenly evaporates into thin air. He might have to take a pass on this one in order to maintain his Social Cred.

4. You’re Way Hotter Than Him and He’s Insecure That You’ll Leave Him

Guys really do think that way. He would rather not date you than date you and be dumped by you. Because then he would be that douchebag that got dumped by the hot girl. And it would hurt his self esteem and image for longer than you would probably be dating. He’s gotta look out for himself in this situation. That’s why you see so many good looking guys with not so good looking girls. They are confident that she’ll stick around. It’s hard being hot. I know…

5. You’re Damaged Goods (Bros Before Hoes)

Well you brought this upon yourself, what can I say? If you’re trying to hook up with a guy or date him, DO NOT.. I repeat.. DO NOT hook up, date, sleep around, flirt, text, his friends. Contrary to what you may think, guys DO talk and they will talk about that girl (YOU) who is trying to play them like they were born yesterday. So be wise and most importantly, choose wisely. One stupid drunken hook up could curse your future forever.
