One man, a guitar, and a sampling machine. That is all that there was on stage and that was all Ed Sheeran needed to absolutely rock Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Ed Sheeran is a shy looking kinda guy with a thick crop of ginger hair and loveable face. His style is, well non-apparent, kinda scruffy, standing on stage in a simple jeans and jumper – no designer labels, skinny jeans or checked shirts in sight. To be fair he looks like anything but a singer.

However, when this guy starts to sing… man you listen. His voice is super-smooth, like a spoonful of clear warm honey, singing in a fast melodic style, similar to that of Craig David in his heyday, and it can be hauntingly beautiful at times (indeed, the girl in front of me said he gave her goosebumps at one point). The songs are a fusion of R&B and folk which creates a refreshing sound; mixing the excitement of R&B with the honesty of Folk music.

The way he creates the music, using his voice to beat box drum beats or sing (and then loop) harmonies to create backing oozed raw talent and a keen ear (it would intriguing to hear him play with a full band to see how this alters the music).

Diverse song-writing completes the picture; from a cheeky song about ‘evenings in on the sofa with the missus,’ to a heartfelt tale of his move to London to follow his dreams (The City) or merrily rapping about marijuana (You Need Me) his writing doesn’t bore and is sprinkled with generous doses of humour.

This was his biggest gig to date he told us, and it showed as he started off gingerly. However, he soon grew in confidence as he said, looking starry-eyed, he used to dream about playing Shepherd’s Bush Empire while watching other artists here, and started to live in the moment. And by the end of the show he was orchestrating a sing-a-long complete with complimentary vocals as he split the Empire into two harmony groups! There are very few established artists brave enough to do this, let alone people playing there for the first time.

As the set ended to rapturous applause little Ed seemed taken back by it all. For a moment he seemed stunned, not knowing whether to pack up or enjoy the moment. Then, with the cheesiest of grins, he ran along the front row hi-fiving everyone as if he’d just scored the winning goal in a cup final. And that moment really summed him up, he’s the good guy living his dream and you cannot help but root for him.

So, I just thought I would share my absoloualy-doutaly favorite songs right now. You ready???

So, I just thought I would share my absoloualy-doutaly favorite songs right now.

You ready?????????

Wait!

First we need to play a really quick game of Red Light/Green Light.

GREEN LIGHT

(you better be running)

(still running)

(Stop gasping for breath, it has only been like 4 seconds)

RED LIGHT.

Ok, I feel better now that that is out of my system.

My Most Favoritist Songs: ( right now. Not like forever, but just at this moment in time. Like last week my favorite food was broccoli and this week it’s peach marmalade. That kind of thing.)

Animal by Miike Snow

I am not normally really gung-ho about people who add random letters to their name, BUT I am willing to overlook that because this song is so good.

It’s mmhmm mhhmm GOOD!

Impossible by: Shout Out Louds

“I don’t want to wake up knowing I don’t have a future.”

Damn straight, I really don’t want to wake up and find out I don’t have a future. It’s all well and good for me to eat ramen and hot dogs for every meal NOW, but at some point it would be cool to be, you know, successful.

Embers by: Just Jack

Ok, so I did first hear this song on Gossip Girl (please don’t make fun) but it was being used so well in the show that I just feel in love with it. I love the clapping rhythm. I just like to clap, although I am not a big fan of high fives. Especially if a guy is giving them, those things hurt my dainty little china doll hands.

Well.. not really dainty.

I digress so here is the video.

And last, because I have a BIT of an obsession with 80s New Wave….

Obsession by: Animotion

So gooodddd. Doesn’t it just make you want to wear spandex and scrunchies. Ahh I love you 80s. I. Love. YOU.

P.S. check out the hair on the girl and that Blue dress is rocking.

“Like a butterfly, a wild butterfly I will collect you and capture you.”

HAHAH

Personally I would want him to be a little more like Will Smith if I was going to sleep with him. Not that I would.

Sleep with anyone that is.

<3 Keep Blabbing

I’m feeling a little stressed tonite…Jack came down with a runny nose and a high fever t

I’m feeling a little stressed tonite…Jack came down with a runny nose and a high fever this afternoon. I spoke to the pediatrician and he asked me to bring Jack in. He looked Jack over and thankfully said it didn’t appear to an infection. He said it was most likely a virus (a cold) but if he still has a fever by Sunday or Monday to call back. The pediatrician was very reassuring (he must know I’m a new mom!) and told me fevers are just the body’s natural way of fighting the infection and to not get alarmed if my son’s temperature is high. All I can do is keep him comfortable and give him Motrin or Tylenol to help fight the fever. He also recommend warm baths (not cool) to help.

The reason I’m so concerned is that Jack came down with a cold a few weeks ago and this week his runny nose and congestion finally seemed to stop. It figures that he got sick again! To top it all off, my husband is overseas on a business trip and apparently has the flu. When he left for his trip on Tuesday, he was on antibiotic for a sinus infection. Unfortunately he hasn’t been able to break his fever and the doctor he spoke with where he is told him it’s the flu and that he can’t travel until he’s rested and feeling better. I’m worried because we don’t know if it’s the swine flu and Jack was around him before my husband left for his trip. My poor boys

All I know is that I need to stay healthy! When I was leaving Jack’s pediatrician tonite, I told the nurse I was going home to take Airborne. I’m sure it’s just in my mind, but I swear that stuff works! The nurse just looked at me like I was crazy – turns out she has never heard of Airborne before! I found it interesting (and kind of ironic) that someone who works in the medical field has never even heard of Airborne. I guess that’s because it’s not “conventional” medicine!

Let me preface this by saying I love my son more than anything. He’s the best thing that

Let me preface this by saying I love my son more than anything. He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I love being a mom. AND YET…I have a confession to make. Now, if you’re one of those perfect parents who thinks every moment with your child is pure bliss and every thing they do is perfect and wonderful, stop reading. For the other 99% of us parents who go through moments of “How did I get here?!” read on…

My confession is that I get impatient sometimes with Jack, I get aggravated by something he does. It’s not anything shocking, but somewhere, someone is gasping. “I can’t believe she said that! What kind of mother is she?” And to that I say I’m a great mother, the best mother for Jack. But I’m human. And what human never gets impatient, or frustrated, even with their own children? I think part of being a good mother is admitting my faults and weaknesses. Having a child makes you want to be a better person. And for me that means not trying to live up to some idealized Donna Reed image of what a mother should be! If I got frustrated, but never admitted it to anyone for fear of what they would think of me, does that make me a better mother? No. I don’t think so. Some day, when Jack is old enough to care, I”ll tell him all of this and he and I will probably laugh about it. And some day when he has kids of his own, he’ll get frustrated by the same things I did when he was a baby. It’s the cycle of life!

The reason I’m writing this is because the last few nights have been rough with Jack. He came down with a cold over the weekend and I slept with him on the couch one night. We were at my in-laws when he first got sick and my husband spent half the night on a futon with Jack because he was so congested. And to top it off the poor little guy is teething. I discovered this morning that his third tooth cut through!

My husband put Jack to bed last night but he was really restless. I checked on him before I went to bed like I do every night and as soon as I walked into his room, I smelled it. He had pooped, I couldn’t even believe it! Ugh, late night diaper changes are the WORST! For a split second, you consider pretending it never happened and leaving the room, but then of course you come to your senses and change them. So I changed him in his crib and of course he woke up just as I was finishing! I was so hoping to get out of there before he woke up! I tried to quietly leave the room, but it was too late. He was awake and he was crying. I picked him and rocked him, thinking he’d be back to sleep in a few minutes. Nope, didn’t happen. I tried to put him down, he cried again. Ugh! This is where I got frustrated! I finally crawled into bed at 12:45. I was not happy. Granted that rarely ever happens. But it was frustrating. It’s times like that when I’m not as graceful with him as I’d like and then I regret it later. My husband will tell you I tend to sigh heavily when I have to get out of bed in the middle of the night, pad to the nursery in the dark and tend to Jack. And then to add to my frustration…he had me up this morning before 6 a.m.! That also never happens…and I was frustrated yet again! I later realized his new tooth may have been the cause of all of this turmoil, but at the time I didn’t know that. This tooth has been coming for weeks, and I’ve been so preoccupied with his cold this week that I forgot all about the possibility of a tooth! So then of course my mommy guilt sets in…but mommy guilt is another topic for another day!

I will say that my frustration or impatience is short-lived. All is takes is for Jack to give me one of his big, bright smiles or laugh a big belly laugh and my heart melts and I forget whatever the heck it was I was annoyed about! That’s the magic of being a parent!

If you read my last post you know how much I like the book “The Tao of Poop” by Vivan Elisabeth Glyck. I love this book more and more every time I read another passage. A huge “Ah-ha!” moment for me was reading about how she describes our expectations of what being a parent will be like versus the reality – WAY DIFFERENT! I realized that it’s my expectations that cause me frustration. I expect, for instance, to be able to put Jack down to go to sleep so I can go to bed, but all he knows is that he is alone and he wants me to comfort him. He doesnt know what time it is or that I’m tired. I have to constantly change my expectations to match Jack’s wants and needs.

Glyck says in Chapter 1 of her book, “The fact of the matter is that expectations are the enemy of happiness. Everything in our culture, from Hallmark to Babies R Us, teaches us to expect something different than what comes plunking out of the womb. If you’re not careful these expectations can set up a wild ride for the rest of your child’s life – and yours, too. If you peer deeply into your expectations, you’ll find a whole, ready-made picture of who you hope your child will turn out to be, including his or her level of achievement in sports, in school, in professional life, and even his or her public contributions.”

If that wasn’t brilliant enough, Glyck also writes, “I learned that it’s OK to not like him [her son] every moment of every day. Moreover, I learned that when I just let him be who he is, rather than projecting my need for perfection onto him, pretty soon he ended up being the perfect little baby I longed for. I’m not sure how that happens, but I do know that whatever it is, it’s bigger than me and I should really trust it, because it works every time.” — again, another lightbulb moment for me! Here’s a published author coming out and telling the world it’s ok to have moments when you don’t love everything about your child! The moment passes and life goes on. I could not have said it any better myself. Take that, Donna Reed!

I’ve been out of commission for the last few days, but I’m back to give you some great m

I’ve been out of commission for the last few days, but I’m back to give you some great music as you prepare for hump day. It was a wild weekend of football (Trojans win, Cal loses, Raiders get smashed by the hated Broncos…) which contributed to my absence. Have no fear, though, because I’ve been saving some choice tunes for today. First up we have a little track that’s pretty hot over in the UK right now. it’s also a nice change from most of the dance music that I usually hear tearing up the UK charts. Jam one: Just Jack – The Day I Died. Enjoy….

This second tune is a classic jam, but somehow it always reminds me of the South Park episode in which the boys start a talent agency and end up taking Wing (the wife of the Chinese restaurant owner) to Los Angeles to be on American Idol. This jam kicks off the episode when it’s covered by Token in a talent show. An absolutely classic song from a legend. Jam two: Lou Rawls – You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine. Enjoy….

Lastly, we’ll switch things up one more time with a little hip hop flavor in your ear. This song really needs no introduction, it’s just classic hip hop. If you don’t like this jam, fuck you! Jam 3 – De La Soul ft. Jungle Brothers and Q-Tip – Buddy. Enjoy….

Poi non so come ho fatto. Ma ho cancellato tutti i vecchi tag. Non so come eh.

True story eh.

Vabbè si ricomincia da capo. Enjoy

Drag myself from my bed
Around 20 past 6
Get my kids up make breakfast
1 egg 2 toast 3 weetabix

and as i sit down i look up
and your standing in the doorway sun at your back
in my old brown dressing gown
Well no one can love you more than i love you now, but i

Gotta go running for the bus
Coat flying and i try not to miss it this time
but the drivers waiting and that’s strange
kids on the top deck quiet for a change
and there’s no rain and no roadworks
in the bus lane and all my hurts run away
and im smiling as i’m punching in

the day i died was the best day of my life
the day i died was the best day of my life
tell my friends and my kids and my wife
everything will be alright
the day i died was the best day of my life

now the secretaries they got a smile for me
and the in-tray on my desks almost empty
I get a memo from executive joe
saying Rob the gob is getting kicked out
for embezzling funds from the company account
and id be lying if i said i wasn’t chuffed
cos i always hated rob
and now they’ll probably offer me robs old job

and in the park at lunch
there’s no whinos on my favorite bench
none of that drunk chatter none of that pissy stench
and the scrawny little pigeons with the gammy legs
decide to dive bomb from someone else’s sandwich instead
and there’s something about the city today
like all the colors conspire to overwhelm the grey
and this close to the fire i can feel no cold
but a rainbow halo around my soul

the day i died was the best day of my life
the day i died was the best day of my life
tell my friends and my kids and my wife
everything will be alright
the day i died was the best day of my life

so i leave work get to the high street and i miss my bus
should i wait for another no i cant be arsed
i begin to walk
and rush hour crowd seem to part like the red sea
and i’m stopping at the office
20 cigarettes and a 6 pack to relax me
and as i cross back over the street
i guess i never saw that taxi
i guess i never saw that taxi

the day i died was the best day of my life
the day i died was the best day of my life
tell my friends and my kids and my wife
everything will be alright
the day i died was the best day of my life

now i got 99 red balloons floating in the summer sky
i got 99 red balloons drifting past my dreamy eyes
i got 99 red balloons floating in the summer sky
i got 99 red balloons drifting past my dying eyes

Ils ne feront même pas Guess We’ll Always Have Ny.

As Jack approaches his 1-year-birthday, I’ve been reflecting on all of the ups and downs we

As Jack approaches his 1-year-birthday, I’ve been reflecting on all of the ups and downs we’ve had in the past year. Mostly ups, but there were some downs too. Bear with me…the point of my story (if you want the abridged version, scroll to the bottom) is that as a new mother or parent it is critical to find a support network to get you through the first year!

The day after Jack came home from the hospital, we brought him to the pediatrician since we were concerned he was dehydrated. Turns out he had jaundice and we had to go back to the hospital for the billy reuben test (which we had to repeat two more times before he was in the clear, ugh). The nice thing was that my labor nurse was the one who performed the test each time, so she tried to make it as painless for us as possible. It was good to see her and we found out she was expecting so that was fun – but my husband and I were a nervous wreck taking our newborn son out into the world full of germs and potentially crazy drivers!

The next hurdle was breastfeeding, boy did I struggle with that. I took a breastfeeding class while I was pregnant, registered for a breast pump and read as much as I could about nursing – naively believing that would be enough. So sure was I that it would all go flawlessly that when my husband and I were budgeting for the baby while I was pregnant, we didn’t even consider formula costs. Looking back, I can’t believe I really thought it would all be that simple! In the hospital Jack seemed to nurse fine and I even met with a few lactation consultants to make sure I was doing ok. But once we got home, I dont know if I just lost my confidence, but it became increasingly difficult. Him latching on became excruciating, at one point I burst into tears since it felt like breaking glass…I even bled. The first two weeks after Jack was born I cried endlessly. Emotionally I was a wreck and physically I was still recuperating. Jack was 4 weeks early and I had been in labor for 48+ hours! Breastfeeding took a much harder toll on me than I expected. Looking back I doubt I was eating or drinking enough. You’re so immersed in caring for the baby you don’t care for yourself properly. I eventually met with a specialist and confirmed that my milk supply was low – which is why even after nursing for what felt like forever Jack could still down ounce upon ounce of formula! I felt totally beaten down, I couldn’t even feed my own baby! What kind of mother was I? I tried fenugreek and a host of other things to increase my milk supply but nothing seemed to be helping and when Jack was about 9 weeks old I weaned him off. I was completely depleted emotionally. His feedings had become extremely stressful for me and I just wanted to enjoy feeding my baby. I thought giving him formula would allow me to relax and finally stop worrying. Not likely….

Not long after that, when Jack was a little over 3 months old, he started screaming while taking his bottle, but he rarely ever spit up. After working with Jack’s pediatrician he diagnosed Jack with acid reflux. Once Jack was put on medication, the screaming stopped and he was able to eat normally again. But those few weeks were extremely trying and stressful. Just seeing him in so much pain was so difficult, I felt helpless.

Luckily things started getting easier after that. The trials of breastfeeding were behind us, Jack’s acid reflux was under control and we were getting longer stretches of sleep at night – life was good.

I’m sharing the difficulties of my first few months of being a mother to help other new moms out there know they are not alone. I never cried so much as those first 2 weeks after Jack was born! But I also want to credit the new moms support group at the hospital where I delivered Jack for getting me through all of that and so much more this first year. I heard about the support group while I was still pregnant and took Jack for the first time when he was just about 8 weeks old or so. I was so nervous and getting out of the house took me all morning. But I finally bundled him up (it was December) and off we went. It was a casual group led by a nurse who is also a lactation consultant at the hospital. She’s been leading the group for years and is well-known in the area. I had been nervous about feeding Jack there but once I sat down I saw other women breastfeeding so I relaxed. From the onset I could tell it was a very supportive, helpful and open group – you bring your baby, ask any questions you have and the nurse and other moms answer your questions and give you feedback. As the winter wore on, that group became my lifeline. Each week I looked forward to it and relished getting out of the house with Jack. The nights of the group I would regale my husband over dinner with stories and interesting tips and tidbits I had learned that day. I was getting an outlet for me and I thought the exposure to other babies was good for Jack. He went from being rocked in my arms in the beginning, to eventually laying on the floor on a blanket with his toys, to then sitting up, to the last time we went, crawling and cruising everywhere and playing with some of the other, older babies! Now that he’s almost 1 we dont go as often anymore what with his nap schedules and our weekly routine. But I still enjoy going every now and then and seeing all of the friendly faces. Through this support group, I’ve met many other terrific moms and we’ve continued outside of the group by getting together for walks, playdates and shopping excursions to the mall. We all stayed connected through Facebook. Jack has met many new friends that hopefully he’ll have as he grows up.

My point through all of this is that if you are a new mom, find a support group whether it be at the hospital, in your neighborhood, at your church, wherever! If you can’t find one, start one even if it’s just you and another mom friend of yours – swap houses and meet every week. Soon enough other moms will hear about it and want to join. I can’t say enough about the importance of having other women and mothers to talk to – it helped me keep my sanity and made me a much happier mom overall (particularly because my own mother isn’t alive and my mother-in-law lives in another state). Being a new mom can feel very isolating, especially in the beginning. I remember days when Jack was just weeks old and I was home with him while my husband was at work, I would feel so alone, even though I knew my family and friends were just a phone call away. The support group is great, but what is even better is the friendships it has led to and all of the fun and wonderful outings Jack and I have had a result. To all of my new moms friends – you know who you are! – you are all amazing, wonderful mothers and my life is better for knowing you!

Day 2

The loneliness of a tower crane driver.

All these things I’ve done, Jenny was a friend of mine, …

That sounds fantastic !”). Cause we love him, we have to let him go”.

Après quelques blagues, version acoustique de Green Eyes puis Death will never conquer chantée par Will.

Everything’s gonna be alright,
The day I died was the best day of my life.”

Quiet buses, no roadworks, an empty in-tray and a colleague you don’t like getting fired. Good things (mostly!), but

It's only Jack

the best day of your life? Just Jack has a habit of wandering through a lyrical story like he’s a bit bored, some of which are profound and some less so – he did “Stars in Their Eyes”, and I could never quite work out if it was profound or not. His latest song (The Day I Died) appears to be profound, yet at the same time strangely empty. With a catchy riff and a cheerful sound, it has a depressing take on what are the good things in life.

And perhaps most worrying is the lack of an idea of consequences. Life is life is life, nothing really matters, as long as the sun shines and my bus isn’t late. The not-so-hidden twist (plot spoiler!) in this song is that he gets killed by a taxi – oops. But never mind - we are asked to tell his friends, and his wife and kids, that everything is gonna be alright. It’s fine, chill out. The bus was on time.

Is it fine? But daddy is dead? Forgive me for over-reacting, but that doesn’t sound alright to me; and certainly isn’t on the same level of seriousness as the bus being late. The consequences of his death are lost in a predicable chord sequence; the musing on life and death so under-developed as to leave me thinking the song must have stopped half-way through. His theology of death leaves a little to be desired: apparently he has 99 red balloons floating in the summer sky, past his dreary eyes. Unless he was a pretty absent friend and father, I hope the consequences of his sudden death are a little more than that to them. They certainly will be to the poor taxi driver.

Aah well, maybe I am over-reacting. Maybe I should be glad that someone is at least trying to write stories in there songs. I will be singing along with everyone else, you can guarantee it. I’m all for ambience in songs, I’m all for chilled-out stories highlighting the absurdities and idiosyncrasies of modern life. Even Lily Allen manages that sometimes, weaving as she does dark, sinister lyrics (or are they also meaningless?) around tunes that sound like Telly-tubby songs. But ambience in songs like this seem so depressingly fatalistic, the hope so empty of meaning, containing about as much depth as the shallow end of an ice-cube. Like Emile Heskey, you know the potential is there it just doesn’t quite ever get there.

When discussing recently an incident at our local hospital in which an ambulance caught fire and exploded (! – it’s ok, no-one hurt…), someone spoke of ‘the burnt out shell of an ambulance’ – which sounded so like something profound I couldn’t help but use it. So, Mr Just Jack, please continue to write, please continue to tell stories; but please let’s not hear any more from the burnt out shell of your ambience, no more mediocre meanderings of little meaning; instead, give substance to your ambience, tickle us with tales of tenacity, amaze and amuse us with your anecdotes and prod and poke us with your poetry and philosophies and observations until we are uncomfortable enough to want to put something truly bland on. Suggestions welcome!

There was a big huge fight…“.

“EVERYBODY GETS DOWN ! DOWN DOWN !”

Jack is going to hate me for sharing this story when he’s old enough to read, but I can’

Jack is going to hate me for sharing this story when he’s old enough to read, but I can’t help it. *Warning* a poop story is coming, so if you’re at all squeamish or don’t like hearing about poop, then stop reading!

Let me start at the beginning. Jack had a difficult past few days. He didn’t seem like himself and was particularly whiny and needy. My husband and I weren’t sure what was wrong. Teething, perhaps? (we blame teething for just about everything these days if we can’t come up with any other logical explanation. When he was a newborn we were convinced growth spurts were the usual cause of our angst). Last night we were dining at a friend’s house and Jack was still acting off. He wasn’t able to finish all his dinner which is unlike him. Like the rest of the weekend, he would be playing fine for a bit, then start fussing and acting unhappy. Then the farting began. These were machine-gun farts. If you’re a parent (and you have to be, because why else would you read about a baby’s gas problems?!), you know what I’m talking about. I grabbed the Mylicon I keep stashed in Jacks diaper bag for just such occasions, figuring that would help (it usually does). A short while later I administered another dose. Unfortunately Mylicon didn’t seem to be doing the trick. Great. We tried to put him down for bed in his car seat like usual and he fell asleep without drinking any of his bottle, another bad sign. About an hour later he started fussing in his car seat and needless to say, we left our friend’s house before Jack woke their baby! I assumed the drive home would put Jack back to sleep. We’d get home, lay him down in his crib, he’d pass out and we’d be good for the night. Not so. He was up until about 11:45 and the only thing that seemed to help calm him down was Baby Einstein’s Lullaby video. I figured I was in for a long night. I set him up in his swing and myself on the couch with a blanket and my pillow and said goodnight wistfully to my husband as he went off to bed – our bed which is nice, soft and very comfortable. Grrrr. Jack slept ok until about 4 a.m. when he woke up, hungry of course since he’d never took his bedtime bottle. He ate and fell back to sleep until about 7 a.m. My husband got up with him and said he had a large poop. “Ah,” I told myself, “so that’s why he was so gassy last night!” I figured we were good to go. Again, I was mistaken.

I fed Jack his breakfast and not long after he finished eating, he looked zoned out in his highchair. I chalked it up to tiredness since he didn’t get the sleep he normally does. I washed some dishes, cleaned up the kitchen and chatted away to Jack, who sat quietly for the most part. By now he’d normally be babbling away or whining to get down and start moving. I went over to clean him up and put him down when the smell hit me. Mind you, I’m getting over a cold and my sense of smell is not as strong as it usually is – but boy, this was a 5-alarm stinker. Onto the changing table we go!

When I opened up his diaper, I have to say I was a little shocked! There was so much poop! How could so much come out of such a little boy? I don’t recall seeing that much poop come out of him in a very long time! Ok, first things first. Grab a wipe and start cleaning, I told myself. Here’s where I should mention, Jack likes to grab at himself (typical guy, right?) It’s normal behavior, but did I mention this poop was smeared everywhere? I go to grab a wipe, Jack grabs himself and now he’s got poop all over his hand. YIKES! This is quickly getting out of hand, literally. I try to start wiping him, but wiping just smears the mess even more. And he doesn’t want to let go of himself. So what does a frantic mother trying to clean poop off her kid do? I start laughing, hysterically, and I can’t stop. Jack starts laughing too, in between crying. To make a long story short, poop got everywhere, all over Jack and all over the changing table. I ran into the bathroom to wash my hands and start the bath (I know, I shouldn’t have left a nearly-10-month-old on the changing table, but it’s one on his pack and play and he still hasn’t figured out how to roll out of it thank goodness). Bath water running, I run back to assess the situation. If I attempt to sit Jack up and get his PJ top off, it will smear poop on Jack’s face! I grab him and do the first thing that comes to mind: plop him in, the tub water still running and I start wiping off his legs and hands. Then I take off the t-shirt carefully, wow it stinks, and throw it on the floor. I have to think his gassiness and subsequent large quantities of poop were what were bothering him over the weekend, poor boy! FYI, I’m worried he’s having some food intolerances that are causing his severe gas, so I decided to keep a food journal for the next few weeks to see if I can detect any patterns. We’ll see what I come up and I plan on talking to his pedi about it too.

What Jack may hate in 15 years is not so much hearing this poop story, but the fact that as this was happening, all I could think about was blogging about it! So yes, my son’s poop has become fodder for my mommy blog. Is that so wrong? I’d like to think that one day, when Jack has kids of his own, he’ll understand.

2007 he came out of nowhere with his fantastic single “Starz In Their Eyes” and his superb album “Overtones”. Just Jack alias Jack Allsopp is a 34 year old singer from North London, who writes excellent lyrics about life in England, the problems people have, but still with a funny side to it. He is a great storyteller and his music is a nice mixture of pop, hip hop, rap and dance.

His album “Overtones” reached number 2 in the album charts in the UK and he released “Glory Days” and “Writers Block” as further singles from the succesful album. Now he is back with his new album “All Night Cinema” which will be released by the end of August. Here is the video to the single “The Day I Died”, a song Sir Elton John is a big fan of and he helped Jack to find an actor for the bitter video :

After “Embers” sprung out of the blue in the top 40 of the UK charts last March, Just Jack or Jack Allsopp in real life also was sometimes played in my playlist too. After releasing “Embers”, he releases this Hawaiian- acoustic inspired piece titled “The Day I Died”. It may sound a bit too polished, but his lyrics are quite emotional. It doesn’t sound like a person bidding goodbye to everyone to be honest, more like a lame-arse lazy back rantings inspired by a boring day at home. I don’t know about this, but it’s making its careful way up in the charts. “All Night Cinema” was at least outstanding than this. “The Day I Died” doesn’t compare to most songs in the album that should’ve been a single or whatsoever. I suddenly thought that “Doctor Doctor” would have been a better single pick. I don’t think it’s quite moving at all. Please Jack, please don’t let this be the death of your career. Thanks.

NOTE: The single cover is as pathetic as some parts of the song were.

RELEASED: August 17, 2009
