What’s been pissing me off lately is the feeling that art no longer has a true impact on society. On everyone, not just collectors, sellers, buyers and critics, but on regular non-art folk. Well, the Leuphana University, Rik Reinking and the city of Lüneburg, Germany certainly challenged my mindset.

Lüneburg took it to the next level. The city is over 1000 years old and is so quaint and beautiful that you feel like you’re in Disneyland without the kitsch. So, Rik and the Leuphana University did some brainstorming and organising over a year and what they came up with is total insanity: First week of the new school year. 1 – 9 October 2009. 1,200 freshmen, 35 international street artists, 30 film experts and 360 video clips…

Rik and the Leuphana had invited 35 street artists to conquer 35 huge walls in the center of Lüneburg. To name just a few artists: Daniel Man, TILT, DAIM, Herakut, Brad Downey, Herbert Baglione, ZEVS, Pius Portmann, Boxi, Victor Ash, Swoon, Faith 47, etc. Fuck me. All the first year students assisted the artists with their work. The students were grouped into teams of four and each team was given a video camera with the assignment of making a ninety second film about the event. These films were then judged by experts and ‘graded’. You will find everything in detail here.

Anyway. They took it to the next level. It was extraordinary. The organisation was meticulous. As mentioned in a previous post, I was invited to be exhibited in the town hall where Rik was exhibiting a selection of his collection, curated by the students. I was picked up by a limousine at Hamburg airport and chauffeured to the university compound. There I met Rik and Holm Keller, chancellor of the university. Wicked guy and extremely passionate about the project. Then a big press conference right away with tons of media, interviews and back showing… Pretty wild. Then followed a guided media tour around the city. Lüneburg was on fire, even though it was relentlessly pouring with rain. There were groups of students with cameras running around everywhere, yellow and blue cranes with working artists on them had taken over the city center. Everyone was discussing it. Old, young, rich, poor. Many loved it, many hated it. Full frontal art confrontation. It was out of this world. There was no way to escape the omnipresence of it all. It was the real thing. The artworks were stunning, the artists were humble and full of praise for the other artists pieces. No competition, just passion and devotion. Then I had lunch with Rik and headed to my excellent hotel. At night was the opening in the town hall (previous entry) and a superb reception afterwards.

I feel so honoured that I was allowed to take part in this event. I was there for two days, but they resparked my fire for art. I think that Lüneburg was very courageous to do something like this. The whole thing was like an invasion. A surreal and colorful flash. The contrast between street art in this ancient city was marvellous. Like those silly soccer Champion’s League events, something like this should be done every year in cities around the world. Being a follower is easy, but real innovation is a tough gig. Especially in unknown territory. A bold art step was made in Lüneburg and I really hope that it was a precedent to many more celebrations of this kind.

Sungguh aneh seseorang yang mengaku dirinya baik, namun menyimpan benci dan antipati yang luar biasa. Bukankah setiap orang dan peristiwa yang datang adalah petunjuk bagimu?
Mengapa tak berterimakasih saja? Kalau memang tak nyaman, tinggalkan saja. Untuk apa menyiksa diri? Bukankah hidup ini pilihan? Dan mengapa harus pergi sembari menyimpan amarah dan sakit hati? Apakah benar dia sama sekali tak ada baiknya untukmu?

Bagaimana aku ingin diperlakukan orang lain? Begitulah aku memperlakukan orang lain.

Three women kidnapped an 18-year-old man in Chitungwiza and forced him to be intimate with one of them at a cathedral in Harare’s city centre on Tuesday,

On Tuesday, the man’s employer sent him on an errand to Makoni Shopping Centre

As he made his way to the bustling shopping centre at around 3pm, a cream Toyota Corolla suddenly pulled beside him, three women got out and bundled him into the vehicle before driving to Harare’s Roman Catholic Cathedral along Fourth Street where they locked him in a room.

At around 8pm, one of the women returned and forced the man to be intimate with her, sources say.

Afterwards, it is alleged the daring woman phoned the wife of the man’s employer and told her that the victim was safe and they should not worry about his whereabouts.

The following morning at around 7am, the three women forced the young man into their vehicle and drove to Machipisa Shopping Centre where they dumped him.

The man made a report at Machipisa Police Station. No arrests had been made and police were hunting for the suspects.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau, confirmed the incident and said investigations were in progress.

How often do we find ourselves value things and people not by how much they are worth, but by what they represent…

Let’s talk about LIFE..

Bukankah hidup ini hanya tinggal dijalani saja? mengikuti alur yang sudah diciptakan Tuhan dan tinggal menjalaninya saja?

Sungguhkah hidup hanya tinggal menjalani? Well, as far as I can see… I planned my life beautifully.. menyelesaikan pendidikan yang direncanakan ibuku, menjalani pekerjaan yang kupilih sendiri untuk ’sembuh’.

Ya, sudah lama aku sakit.. Schizophrenia, bukankah orang sembuh dengan caranya masing-masing? dan pada waktu yang tepat?

Life was a torture, but stil… something that didn’t kill you, will make you stronger… it’s glad to let you know..

Tak ada yang dapat menghalangiku karena aku tau apapun yang kulakukan adalah benar. ‘Sesungguhnya rencana-KU amat teguh’.

Apa yang menjadikanku seperti sekarang? adalah keteguhan pendirian yang takkan pernah tergoyahkan. Baik dan burukku, masa lalu dan masa depanku, sakit dan kemenanganku adalah karenamu ibu.. sungguh picik bila kumenafikkan itu semua.. dan takkan pernah kecil hatiku untuk semua pengorbananmu.

Dan adalah jalan hidupku menjadi kebahagiaanku dan kebanggaanmu, tak ada yang mampu kupersembahkan selain itu, telah aku tau artinya bertarung nyawa melahirkanku ke muka bumi.

It’s over.

I’m finished trying to run, finished trying to control, and finished trying to be independent. Trying to be a grown-up. Let fate fall where it may, and I guess I’m leaning against the old fallback of “if God wills it.”

But seriously. At this point, if God wills it, I’ll be one intensely blessed grateful dumb shit.

I’m done.

I’m done with pretending that I’m an adult. I’m not, okay? So get over it and leave me alone. I’m struggling to get into a college that I know I’m not prepared for in a competitive world that’s waiting with eager, dripping jaws to eat me alive. I’m not ready.

I’m through.

I’m through sitting back and letting my hundreds of responsibilities run amok over me. It’s partially my fault through disorganization, partially my fault through neglect. I’m doing so much I can’t focus on the important things. If something doesn’t go, I will. I’ll go insane. So I’m through being trampled by my own many loves and passions, and I’m through being choked and hung by the dramas of my friends and school life. I’ve got to distance myself from it, before it gets me. If I don’t focus, and work my ass off on the thing that is most important, I won’t get anywhere. Ever.

It’s over.

So it’s over, kids, and here I am typing as a shakily resolute and keenly terrified individual who’s not grown up and who’s ready to practice and who really just wants to stay home and love her life and her family in peace.

But Time and Nature won’t allow it. So ready or not, I’m out in less than a year. If I go to a shitty school, well hey, that’s my own fault. Goodbye, Eastman. Nice looking at your name on the website, C.I.M. I wish I would have been good enough. I’m sorry for wasting your time, Heather. I’m deeply sorry, Mrs. Ripley.

What happens, happens. If I can’t contact anyone and have them be my savior with my transcript and SAT score report today, then I am fucked. And who can or will help me, the irresponsible procrastinator who is falsely deluding herself that she can make it in the vicious world of music?

I just want to sing. And that will probably never happen now, because I’m a fucking retard.

So guess what.

This week’s design is a part of the Crossover blog. The design comes from Ha Ha’s Shirt Shop. It’s called Sinner. It may seem like a simple design. But there is a lot to it if you get to thinking about it.

The truth is that we all where this shirt whether we own it or not. Romans 3:23 says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Some are proud of their sin and revel in it. Others realize that their sins will be what keeps them from entering heaven if they die without a payment for them. Being a sinner means that you rebel against God. It means that you transgress His Law and actively work against Him. This is hard to take for some because we all like to think that we’re good; or at least not as bad as the next guy. The truth is, even the most righteous thing that we could ever do would look like trash when compared to God.

It is only because of Jesus’ life, death on the cross, and resurrection from the dead that we can enter heaven. God has done it all for us. He made the way for us to be reconciled (before anything was ever created!), He came down to live perfectly, and He died on the cross in our place. He rose from the dead and now sits at God’s right hand. He even gives us the ability to repent and have faith in Him!

If you are living in your sins, please understand that while this may be enjoyable for a time (scripture says this), eventually, it will lead to your death. If you haven’t repented of your sins, please take some time over this long holiday weekend to give thanks to God for what He’s done and to repent of the sins that you’ve committed against Him.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday urged his visiting Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to find a “just solution” with the West to Tehran’s contested nuclear program.

Lula, speaking in a joint media conference with Ahmadinejad, reiterated that Brazil backed Iran’s declared quest for “peaceful nuclear energy in full respect of international accords.”

He appealed to Ahmadinejad to “continue contacts with interested countries for a just and balanced solution on the nuclear issue in Iran.”

Ahmadinejad, for his part, voiced support for Brazil’s bid to one day become a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Brazil is to take one of the non-permanent seats — those without the power of veto — in 2010 and 2011.

“We support a reformed UN Security Council and for Brazil to have a permanent seat,” he said.

He argued the council “has failed over the past 60 years because of the veto power of a small number of countries, a source of insecurity for several countries in the world.”

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

The United States and Europe are leading an international campaign against Iran’s nuclear program, amid suspicions the Islamic state is trying to build a nuclear arsenal under cover of a pursuit of atomic energy.

Iran on Monday reinforced its rejection of a UN-brokered deal that would call for Russia and France to enrich its uranium, with a senior official saying no nuclear reactor fuel would leave Iran.

Lula has repeatedly backed Tehran’s nuclear program, and said he opposed international sanctions on Iran.

Ahmadinejad’s visit to Brazil was the key leg of a five-nation tour to sympathetic Latin American and African seen backing Tehran’s vision of a new world order in which the United States is not dominant.

The itinerary began in Gambia, and after Brazil was to continue with Bolivia, Venezuela and Senegal.

Lula, a moderate leftist wary of US influence in the world, has reached out to Iran as part of a broader strategy to implicate Brazil in seeking peace in the Middle East.

In his weekly radio broadcast on Monday, he said: “You can’t move forward by isolating Iran. If Iran is an important player in all this discord, it’s important that someone sits down with Iran, talks with Iran and tries to establish a point of balance, so that we can return to a degree of normality in the Middle East.”

Days before receiving Ahmadinejad, Lula made a point of welcoming visits by Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

On Monday, he announced he would travel to Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian Territories in March next year.

The Iranian president was accompanied by a 300-strong delegation, half of which were Iranian businessmen working towards Tehran’s goal of lifting bilateral trade with Brazil from one billion dollars today to 15 billion dollars in the future.

Several protests over his visit have taken place, notably one on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, where 1,000 members of Jewish, anti-racist and gay rights groups rallied against Ahmadinejad’s tirades.

Sao Paulo’s governor, Jose Serra, who is seen as the leading potential candidate in presidential elections in October next year that will select Lula’s successor, called Ahmadinejad’s visit “undesirable.”

“Democracy and human rights are indivisible and have to be defended in every part of the world,” he wrote in an opinion piece published in the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper.

After his 24-hour Brazilian leg, Ahmadinejad was to depart for Bolivia for talks with his counterpart Evo Morales, then on to Venezuela to see his “friend” Hugo Chavez. Both Morales and Chavez are strongly critical of the United States.
