Okay… so I lied a little. I have been secretly continuing with my nasty habit.

Example: I recently took a moment out to relapse immediatly after writing a post about how I constructively deal with relapses. 

Here’s the thing: turns out the title of my blog is more accurate than I intially thought.

I orignally attempted to stop masterbating to porn so as to stop my girlfriend from feeling like shit. I figured, ‘Okay so that habit isn’t good for the relationship and therefore I should stop.’ So I tried. I would relapse every now and again but figured, ‘Hey, that’s okay. You’re trying – that’s the main thing.’ This went on for a number of months… I continued with the habit while I learnt about it. Then I realized that I’m more fucked up than I thought.

My willpower cannot stand a chance against the beast. Over the years I’ve knitted my porn usage into a lovely comfort blanket that protects me from the twangs of life. I have a dependency on porn for satisfaction in life. I need more than willpower and ‘attempting’.

I’ve downloaded and installed two pieces of software to help protect me from my own blanky. The first is x3watch. The guys a xxxchurch.com developed the software, which provides accountability by sending a fortnightly report about my internet activities directly to my gf’s inbox. The thought of her openning her email to find that I’ve still been watching the bouncing boobs is enough to squash any moment of stupid genious.  The second piece of software I downloaded to compliment x3watch is K9 web protection. It basically works as a filter (which is why I can’t provide a link to the xxxchurch site!). By installing a filter (to which she has the password) on my laptop I’ve effectively produced a situation that means the only way I can actually watch porn is by using her laptop. All I can say at this point, given my history and whatever, is that I reckon the odds that I’ll actually log into her computer in order to avoid the blockages she has helped install on my computer to watch porn while she’s at work or something are, let’s say… unlikley.  A positive unlikley.

I’m also going to join a support group, a twelve-stepper. I’m scared, of course. My only experience with these programs to date has been in the comfort of my lounge room. I’ve seen Fight Club and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Can you imagine my expectations? Naturally I don’t want to go. ‘I’m not one of those people. They’re the ones that can’t help themselves, the ones that can’t deal with reality. I’m a go-getter. King Kong ain’t got shit on me! They’re lambs, I’m a tiger. They’re lowlifes, I’m a man. They can’t look after themselves as grown adults, I was born for this shit. They’re that left over beer that probably doesen’t even like the taste of itself, I’m that first cold sip on a warm summer day. They suck, I rule.’

Should be interesting.

*Madeleine refers to the advantage of being able to turn off the K9 filtering for the purpose of legitimate research. The filtering software from Watchdog that I referred to (in the foot note to the previous post) can be turned off, but you have to call Watchdog to do it. You can turn it back on without calling Watchdog by reinstalling the software. It’s an easy but inconvenient process.
