“I won’t lose as long as I have the Guren MK. II ( Makenai… Atashi no.. Guren Nishiki nara!! ) ” Kallen Kouzuki – Code Geass Episode 10

Alright!! After 3 long weeks of waiting, Guren Nishiki Royal Coating Version is finally arrived.
Thanks to moncikoma-San from KG for getting me this from Japan (thank you very very much Bro!!)

For you who doesnt know yet, Guren Nishiki is a Knightframe ( in Gundam, it’s called mobile suit ) from Code Geass, the best anime series EVER!! ( Love it so much more than any Gundam Series ).

I personally think it’s the BEST design ever created for mecha, and this Guren Royal Coating Version from BANDAI is the BEST I’ve ever seen. There are other Guren Nishiki and they don’t look good as this neither do they offer many movement with the model kit, so I’d say this is DEFINITELY a must have for Code Geass lovers or Guren Nishiki lovers to be exact.

There’s a place for the cockpit and you get a small Kallen figure unpainted that you can put inside the cockpit. Absolutely COOL!!

It’s worth every penny for this model kit. If I’m not mistaken, there are two other Gurren MK. II, the price difference is not that much but the details and features are DEFINITELY a dissappointment compared to this.

It took a really long time to built it but it’s worth it…

One year after the release of the “sleeping mode” duet in February 2008 with C.C. in the bed and Kallen who has her head in the clounds, Alpha x Omega produced a fanservice duet with Kallen as bunny girl and Shirley as a swimsuit maid.

I’ve just checked while writing this review : the figure is available on Hobby Link Japan and Hobby Search.

The box and the content.

The packaging

The box has the shape of a cube (25 cm x 18 cm x 17 cm). It has a wide window. Like most of figures made by Alter, the cardboard is rather thin. The window and the thin cardboard make this box a bit fragile/light -> if you use to stack up your boxes to keep them, do not put this one at the bottom.

The box has too much “empty space”… boxes of the figures of Mahō Shōjo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS by Alter are in the same spirit. In my opinion, the base could have been kept vertically and then the width could have been decreased.

The content: the thermoformed blisters have the figure, the base and the optionnal headband. Oh there is also a sheet of paper with instructions in the case where people would not know that it has to be put on the head:

The base is a transparent disk with the logo of the Black Knights in relief. I think it is nicer than Kallen Stadtfeld’s one but it is useless because the figure can stand without it:

The figure

I will not explain again where the figure comes from. I already talked about the anime Code Geass in another review.

The clothes

If you did not yet finish to watch (or did not yet start watching) the first season of Code Geass, you could think that it is a fanservice version that have nothing to do with the original serie. You would be mistaken! … Kallen as bunny girl has been seen in an episode of the 2nd season!

In fact it was the 2nd bunny girl that I bought. The 1st one was the Haruhi Metamo 1.5 (she was able to change the color of her cloth according to the temperature). This bunny figure has all the exact details of the one that is in the anime: the knots near the hips, the sleeves, the neck, the bunny tail, the removable headband with the bunny ears, the activation key of the Guren.

The stance

The stance is unusual and so it can disturb: Kallen is on her knees and looks like dodging bullets. Her right hand is hiding the Guren key in her breasts.

The figure lays on 4 points (2 knees and 2 shoes): it is harder to produce because all this 4 points have to be in the same plane. If it is not the case there is a point to compensate: that is the case when you have a table with 4 legs. If one is too short, you have to steady it with papersheets. Do not worry, you will not have to use papersheets with Kallen: Alter Alpha x Omega did a great job and the 4 points are in the same plane!

The face expresses a kind of determination… I remind you she is in “rebel mode”. That is why the name is Kouzuki (the Japenese name) and not Stadtfeld.

The quality

I find that the sculpting is really good: we can see the shape of the collarbones, the scapulas, the creases on the cloth, etc… the paint of Guren activation key is not dribbling too much.

I said for Kallen Stadtfeld that the joint between the two hairs parts was too seeable. Kallen Bunny’s hair is similar because it has two parts… but it has something more clever ^.^ the bunny ears headband can hide it

The painting is excellent : no dribbling, there are some color variations which reveal irregular shapes (example: the creases, the seams, etc…). Nonetheless the color of the nail polish (light-pink) is not contrasting so much with the color of her skin… nevermind, the rest is perfect

Conclusion

This figure is contrasting with the “Kallen Stadtfeld” version more particularly for the stance and what it expresses. Well… if I had to have only one, I don’t know which one I should keep.
She is technically gorgeous: I have nothing to complain about the quality. Alter AxO is at the top.
I have the feeling that people do not like her so much (the proof is that she’s still available). I can understand it because the stance is not usual and the fanservice can get on nerves (for example, I hate fanserv in Evangelion). Maybe the “Code Geass figures” budgets have been cut by the G.E.M. figure of Zero Lelouch.
So she’s my 2nd Kallen while I have not any figure of C.C. And yet I prefer C.C. (she is in my anime harem) >_< I am still waiting for a C.C. that I would like. Alpha x Omega, please hear my praying and release a gothic loli C.C. !!!

La boîte, le contenu.

Le packaging

La boîte a un forme de cube (25 cm x 18 cm x 17 cm). Elle comporte une large fenêtre. Comme pour la plupart des figurines produites par Alter, le carton de la boîte est plutôt fin. La fenêtre et la finesse du carton fragilisent la structure de la boîte -> si vous rangez vos boîtes en faisant des piles, ne mettez pas celle-ci en bas.

Je trouve que la boîte comporte beaucoup de “vide”… un peu comme les boîtes des figurines de Mahō Shōjo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS par Alter. Le socle aurait pu être placé verticalement ce qui aurait pu faire diminuer la largeur de la boîte.

Le contenu : les 2 coques thermoformées renferment le socle, la figurine et le serre-tête optionnel. Ah il y a aussi une petite notice pour ceux qui n’auraient pas compris que ça se mettait sur la tête :

Le socle est un disque transparent avec le logo de l’Ordre des Chevaliers Noirs en relief. Je le trouve plus joli que le celui de Kallen Stadtfeld, mais il est superflu car la figurine peut tenir sans le socle :

La figurine

Je ne rererereprésenterai pas l’anime de Code Geass. Cela a été fait dans une autre review… et je pense que qu’avec les licences acquises par Kaze et Tonkam, la popularité de cet anime va grandir.

La tenue

Si vous n’avez pas terminé de regarder (ou pas commencé) la 1ère saison de Code Geass, vous pourriez vous dire qu’il s’agit d’une version pour le fanservice uniquement, quelque chose qui n’a strictement rien à voir avec la série originale… que nenni ! … Kallen en bunny apparaît bien dans un épisode de la saison 2 !

C’est en fait la 2ème Bunny que j’ai achetée, la première étant la Metamo 1.5 de Haruhi (elle change de couleur en fonction de la température). Cette bunny est vraiment fidèle à ce que l’on voit dans l’anime, tous les détails du costume sont présents : les noeuds au niveau des hanches, les manches, le col, la queue de lapin, le serre-tête avec les oreilles de lapin amovible, la clé d’activation du Guren.

La pose

Il s’agit d’une pose plutôt inhabituelle et qui peut éventuellement déplaire : Kallen est à genoux et donne l’impression d’éviter une balle. Sa main droite cache la clé du Guren au niveau de sa poitrine.

La figurine a 4 points d’appui : les 2 genoux et les 2 chaussures. C’est hyperstatique ! Une mauvaise finition aurait fait que l’un des points d’appui soit légèrement au dessus du sol (un peu comme si vous étiez sur une table d’examen à 4 pieds et qu’il faille caler un pied avec du papier), mais ça n’est pas le cas : les 4 points sont bien dans le même plan. Bravo Alter Alpha x Omega !

Le visage exprime une certaine détermination… rappelons qu’elle est en mode rebel (d’où le nom Kouzuki, nom japonais, et non pas Stadtfeld).

Les finitions

Je trouve que les sculptures sont vraiment bien réalisées : on arrive à voir la forme des clavicules, les omoplates, les plis des vêtements, etc… la clé d’activation du Guren n’est pas trop grossière.

J’évoquais pour Kallen Stadtfeld le joint au niveau de la chevelure (puisque la chevelure est réalisée en 2 parties) qui est visible : on a ici l’astuce avec le serre-tête qui se fixe au niveau du joint et peut ainsi le cacher

Le travail de peinture est excellent : pas de bavure, des touches de couleur différente pour mettre en relief certaine formes irrégulière (exemple : un pli, les contours d’une omoplate). La couleur du vernis (rose clair) ne contraste pas trop avec la couleur de la peau de Kallen… mais ça m’est égal.

Conclusion

La figurine contraste avec la version “Kallen Stadtfeld” surtout en terme de pose et d’expression. Si je devais n’en garder qu’une… et bien je ne sais pas.
Elle est techniquement parfaite : je n’ai rien à redire sur la qualité, Alter AxO est au top.
J’ai quand même l’impression que cette figurine est un peu boudée (puisqu’elle est encore dispo). Je le conçois car la pose n’est pas “commode” et le fanservice a parfois tendance à agacer (à titre d’exemple, les différentes version fanserv d’Asuka et Rei d’Evangelion m’énerve)… et puis je pense que les budgets figurine Code Geass ont pu largement être amputés par la figurine G.E.M de Lelouch.
C’est donc ma 2ème Kallen, alors mon compteur de figurines de C.C. est toujours à 0. Je préfère pourtant C.C. (présente dans mon harem d’anime) en tant que personnage >_< J’attends toujours qu’une C.C. qui me plaise sorte. Alpha x Omega, entendez mes prières, je souhaiterais un C.C. gothic loli !!!

Az idei nyár elég tartalmasra sikeredett, ezért sajnálatos módon nem lettem kész a Kallen cp-vel, de őszintén szólva, valahogy nem is voltam annyira szomorú, mint vártam. Egyrészt már egy hete alig aludtam, éjjel-nappal varrtam, másrészt az időhiány miatt kicsit összecsapottnak éreztem a munkámat, ezért szombat este megbeszéltem magammal, hogy majd 2010 SakuraConon első nap nem Black Knight Uniformos Kallen, hanem továbbra is Rebel Outfites Kallen leszek. Ennek még az a nagy előnye, hogy nagyrészt már kész van a cosplay (bár elég valószínűnek tartom, hogy a felsőt újrakezdem, mert nagyon nem tetszik), és több időm jut majd a vasárnapira, ami egyébként is egy időigényes darabnak mutatkozik. Most, hogy ezt a részét tisztáztam, jöjjön az igazi élménybeszámolós rész.

Háromnapos, vagy pénteki jegyet sajnos Ryuu nem tudott szerezni (ami azért vicces, mert ugyanabban a boltban egy órával később másik ismerősöm már tudott venni mindkettőt – gondolom az új szállítmány kicsit később jött), ezért a Matsuriról lemaradtam. Ennek több okból nem örültem: a különböző finomságokra nagyon pályáztam, és a programokkal is szemezgettem már egy ideje, de c’est la vie.

Szombat: Az előző conos tapasztalatok után, gondoltam, megint ugyanazon az oldalon lesz a sor. Tévedtem. ^^”  Úgy néz ki, minden évben máshova tologatják a tömeget, de most már legalább nincs abszolút káosz, mint egy évvel ezelőtt (sőt, ami azt illeti, egész kultúrált sort sikerült összehozni). Már 9-kor a PeCsánál voltunk, ezért viszonylag elől voltunk, de a sor végét nem láttuk (szvsz elég vicces volt, ahogy össze-vissza kigyózott, de lehet, hogy csak előjött a szadista énem). Egy Gintokit láttam, amit betudtam Junchinak, de nem mennék biztosra. A táblás rajongókat/őrülteket továbbra is gázkamrába zárnám, de én megint csak a “halkan is lehet szeretni”-elmélet híve vagyok, tehát az elvakult fangörlséget nem tudom teljesen átérezni. -_- A “free hug” táblásoknak pedig tényleg nem ártana egy kis verés, amiután előbb vagy utóbb csak feladnák a hippi-mozgalmukat. (Ryuu fogalmazta meg jól a dolgot: “Ezek azok az emberek, akik még életükben nem beszéltek/léptek kapcsolatba egy fiúval, fórumokon kívül.”  ‘Nuff said. ) Amin még jót röhögtem, az egy yaoi-táblás lányka volt, akinek nem tűnt fel, hogy körök óta fordítva viszi a táblát (lol).

Amint beértünk, letámadtuk a mangakisszát, és a szokásos kölcsönzés-kaja-pia-vásárlás programba kezdtünk bele. Sushit kivételesen nem vettem, mert Ryuu csinált két doboznyit a szülinapomra (dobozonként kb. 30 maki volt), és azzal bőven jóllaktam. Vásárlást illetően gazdagabb lettem egy leárazott Vándorló Palota dvd-vel, aminek nagy rajongója vagyok (de úgy általánosságban a Ghibli-fanok egyikének tartom magam, erről majd egy későbbi animés bejegyzésben írok), tehát örültem, mint majom a farkának. Amit viszont sajnálok, hogy nincs angol szinkron és felirat hozzá.

Kipróbáltam az aloe verás-almás Pokkát is, aminek meg kellett szokni az ízét, de finom volt. (Még mindig röhögnöm kell azon, hogy Japánban sikeresen feltalálták a teát, amit rágni kell, pedig már párszor ittam Pokkát. ) Úgy dél körül végeztem a Nana 4. kötetével, és eszünkbe jutott, hogy megnézzük Ryuu fanartját bent. Eléggé meglepett minket, amikor sehol se találtuk, pedig biztos, hogy időben beküldte. o_O Ez egy kisebb csalódás volt, de hamar túltettük magunkat rajta, hála a nagy lelkesedésünknek. A mostani rajz egyébként egy Toradorás fanart lett volna, de jövőre összehozunk egy szép kis cg-t is, aminek a színezés része rám jut majd.

Mindenesetre megtaláltam az általám várt legjobb cosplayt, Howlt, Erda alakításában. Nem szokásom fangirlködni (én legalább csendben teszem >_>), de áááááh. Nem gondoltam, hogy csalódni fogok, és nem is! Komolyan imádom Howlt, és Erda cosplaye minden conos fájdalmamért kárpótolt. Szóval köszönöm, köszönöm, köszönöm neki. (Egyébként a Hichigo cpjét is láttam, és az is nagyon jól sikerült, de lévén nem vagyok Bleach-rajongó, azt nem tudtam annyira értékelni, mint a Vándorló Palotásat. Ettől függetlenül ő volt a legjobb Hollow Ichigo, akit eddig láttam, tehát csak gratulálni tudok.)

A 2. kedvenc cosplayerem a Joker lett, a nevetése valami hihetetlenül jó volt. Minket is letámadott a “Megmersz csókolni?”-felirattal, amit valahogy viccesnek találtam, de lehet, hogy már mindent elnéztem a sok visual kei- és yaoi-fangirl után. ^^

Később még Beryllel is összefutottam, de csak én ismertem meg, tekintve, hogy nem voltam cosplayben. Azt hittem, meglepődött, de hazaérve kiderült, hogy nem is, aminek örülök. Sajnos a pár soros bemutatkozás után be is állt a kínos csend, ezért hagytam pózolni (nem akartalak ám zavarni, Beryl ^~^), és visszadöcögtem a saját társaságomhoz.

Délután relatíve sokat “kockoltunk”, és életemben először Wiiztem is. Vicces volt fénykardozni (höhö, megint nem tudott elverni egyik fiú sem ~), és 100%, hogy nagyon hülyén néztem ki, de igazából nem érdekelt. Később még, ha jól tudom, Tekkeneztünk is, de Ryuu Yodával volt, és Yoda KICSI. o_O Csak rúgdosni tudtam a kétméteres karakteremmel, tehát abban lealázott. (“Hagytam nyerni.”) Volt még valami nagyon fanservice, de egyben lányos wtf-játék is, de az hamar sztornó lett.

Az amv-vetítésről sajnos lemaradtam, mert úgy kb. 3 körül le is léptem, mert még abban a tévhitben éltem, hogy sikerül másnapra befejezni Kallen ruháját. Éjfél körül már kezdtem nagyon elfáradni, ezért hülyébbnél hülyébb ötleteim támadtak (többek között eszembe jutott, hogy gyorsan össze tudnék hozni egy random school girlt, de úgy néztem volna ki, mint egy Shugo Charás Amu és egy visual kei-es keveréke, tehát hamar visszatértem a valóságba).

A vasárnapi napról külön bejegyzést írok, mert már ez is kicsit sok lett. ^^” (De, ismerve magamat, értelmesebbnek látom részletesen leírni a dolgokat, tekintve, hogy az emlékezetem egy aranyhalé, és valahogy meg kell örökíteni a dolgokat.)

I received a package from Hobbylink Japan today.

I bet you are wondering why I labeled this as a shipping rant from the above photo. Well this package was sent via ems and cost me almost $50 for shipping which is understandable, what isn’t acceptable is this..


Now if this was SAL I would be more understanding, this would still be the worst damage via shipping but I would at least somewhat understand that you get what you pay for but in this case I paid quite a bit for a shipping and got damaged merchandise.

Two of the other boxes were slightly damaged, if the Belldandy figure hadn’t been damaged I probably wouldn’t have brought it up but at this point I am feeling a bit nit-picky.

I emailed HLJ with pictures within ten minutes of opening the package as I was pretty upset about the condition of the Belldandy figure box, I have yet to receive a response will update this post if I do receive a response.

On the bright side my Joker & Be@rbrick arrived in immaculate condition.

Edit: HLJ just wrote back basically told me to piss off, said to take the package to the post office and try to do a claim through them because it wasn’t HLJ’s responsibility as it was merely “cosmetic damage”, the fact that the box was poorly packaged by them is now apparently the USPS’s fault (their were only two bags of air and the box everything was shipped in was pretty oversized for what was actually in it). It was not packaged as well as any of the other packages we have ever got from HLJ and that is why stuff got damaged during shipping. I am strongly considering cancelling my remaining preorders with them.

Egy valamivel nem számoltam, amikor nekiestem a cosplay-készítésnek: egész nyáron alig voltam itthon, és amikor itt tartózkodtam, intenzív japán tanfolyamra jártam, tehát egész nap tanultam. Augusztus elején már kezdett tisztázódni bennem, hogy amint hazaérek, 24 órás műszakokban kell majd dolgoznom Kallen ruháján, de még ez se lombozott le. Ami az eddigi kiszabott részeket illeti, az angol tutorial alapján soha az életben nem lehet egy nadrágot összehozni. Próbáltam kielemezni, hogy az írók mire is gondolhattak, amikor azt a cikket írták, de minden agyi tevékenység teljesen feleslegesnek bizonyult, ezért inkább feladtam.

E helyett elmentem megint az I Love Textilbe, és vettem egy árnyalattal sötétebb anyagot, mert ami eddig volt, az sehogysem illett a képbe (nem tudom, mire gondoltam, amikor megvettem…). Jó pár félreszabás és nagy mennyiségű kitartás után, józan paraszti ésszel sikerült egy nadrágot varrnom, tehát most örülök, mint majom a farkának. Rengeteget kellett rajta igazítani, és biztos látszik is majd rajta, hogy kezdő vagyok, de ennek ellenére nagyon megérte.

Az anyagról annyit tudni kell, hogy csillog, tehát a belsejével kellett dolgoznom, ami meg ugye (szerencsére) nem. Képen nem néz ki túl szimmetrikusnak és a gyűrött részek is érdekesen mutatnak, de élőben tényleg jobb.

Ami már megvan, az a paróka, amit ugye alapból Kallenre terveztek, és elég mutatós. A színe a képen világosabb volt, de őszintén szólva nagyon örülök, hogy igazából jóval sötétebb.

Továbbá sikeresen szereztem egy fehér övet 29 Ft-ért, de a fém részeket még le kell festeni.

Aminek még nagyon örültem, az a különböző extrák (zipzár, tépőzár, gombok) beszerzése volt: vidéken voltam egy-két hétig, és tényleg mindent olcsóbban lehet megvenni. 1 méter tépzárat konkrétan 500 Ft alatt kaptam, aminél olcsóbbat Pesten még nem láttam.

Még van 5 napom, hogy befejezzem, remélhetőleg időben sikerül legyártani a tervezett cosplayt.

Holy crapp! First post ever!! I finally decided to put this blog to use. Well, first thing’s first: WTF?!
That was my reaction when I caught my little sister watching Yu-Gi-Oh 5d’s. I’m good with Yu-Gi-Oh. I’m a fan actually. But how many freaking times can they remake this series? The first Yu-Gi-Oh series was pretty good, with Yugi, Yami, and Seto. THEN, they had to go and make another series, GX, which practically made me hate the entire series altogether. This is the equivalent to Pokemon, where they continuously try to create new worlds and more Pokemon. And is it just me, or does Ash never age?

Anyways, back to my original point. So my sister is watching Yu-Gi-Oh, big whoop, and I’m horrified that she’s watching that crap. But It’s Saturday, I’m bored, there’s nothing on TV, so I start watching too. I chuckle at the retarded motorcycle card battles and laugh at the outrageously spikey hair. Then, I saw the abomination:

 I smirked. “Twain? Good? Those words repel each other.”

Elora scowled. “He’s bad at school because he sees no reason in having to go to college when he could be studying for his Shield of Merlin.” She smiled crookedly. “Platinum edition.”

“No way!” Kallen beamed. “Oh, give him luck from me. Man, that’s one high standard.”

“Helloo? Has anyone noticed I am here?”

 “Mandy, a Platinum Edition Shield of Merlin means you’re one of the top supernaturals in the world. He’ll be defending among the likes of Veronique and Lucifer!”

 “I’m not interested in that idiot. I’ve had my time of him,” I muttered.

 “Don’t be harsh, Mands, that guy’s a…well, he’s a bloody genius,” Kallen said.

 Elora smiled, satisfied.

A little snippet about a supernatural school they are going to. Twain is an old enemy of Mandy’s, but also Elora’s boyfriend. Kallen is Mandy’s boyfriend so she’s annoyed he’s sticking up for Twain. Lol.

A cosplay-időszakok, magyarul (főleg) a conok környékén, valószínűleg több ilyen témájú bejegyzés lesz, tekintve, hogy én is lelkesen készülődöm az első cp-mre. Mielőtt bárminek nekikezdtem volna, összeírtam a lehetséges karaktereket, és elég hosszú lista kerekedett a dologból, de végül Ku Fiyu (Kiddy Grade 2) és Kallen (Code Geass) között döntöttem. A végeredmény Kallen lett, ami nem feltétlenül a legokosabb ötlet, tekintve, hogy egy szoknyát szvsz jóval könnyebb megvarrni, mint Kallen összeeszkabált ruháját, de ez az anyag megvétele után már teljesen lényegtelen volt.

Az első lista után egyből következett egy második is, a boltok neveivel és címeivel, amelyekbe érdemes lehetett benézni. (Ebben nagy segítség volt a cosplay.hu egyik cikke.) Ryuu-val el is indultunk a WestEndtől a Jászai Mari tér fele, de már az első sarkon egy textilboltba botlottunk. Nem volt betervezve, de oda is benéztünk, és kelletlenül tapasztaltuk, hogy az árak az egekben vannak, és mégcsak nem is a legjobb minőségért, ezért egyből mentünk is tovább az I Love Textil-be (Budapest, Szent István krt. 2.), ahol gyakorlatilag minden anyag 390 Ft/méter áron elég elérhetőnek bizonyult, ráadásul a választék is nagyon széles. Szerencsére már korábban összeagyaltuk, hogy milyen színből, anyagból mennyi kéne, és ez alapján kb. fél óra nézelődés után a kevés műbőrön kívül mindent sikerült megvennem. (A boltban volt műbőr, de különféle mintákkal, ami éppenséggel nem illene túlságosan Kallenhez.)

Szabásmintákat valamelyik Burda boltban akartam nézni, de valahogy nem jutott rá idő, és kedv sem, ezért s.k. szabásmintával kellett dolgoznom, ami szvsz elég jól sikerült eddig. Még csak a nadrág részei vannak készen, de azokkal is megszenvedtem. Először angol tutorialokat nézegettem, azok alapján készítettem egy vázlatot, amit később a ruhának megfelelően alakítgattam, az inch-eket átváltottam, és a méreteimet behelyettesítettem a különböző részekhez. A kelleténél valószínűleg jóval több ráhagyást hagytam, de inkább legyen több, mint kevesebb, később még úgyis át lehet szabni a részeket.

Először kartonra rajzoltam őket, de a kivágás után rá kellett jönnöm, hogy a vastagsága miatt nem tudom rátűzni az anyagra, ezért újságpapírral kellett ugyanezt eljátszanom, azzal a különbséggel, hogy így már minden simán ment. Több órát szenvedtem magával a szabással, de végre túl vagyok a kezdeteken, és szépen, lassan elkezdhetek varrni. A felső rész kiszabásával valószínűleg ugyanennyit fogok szenvedni, de remélhetőleg már könnyebb lesz.

A képen a szobámban lévő teljes káosz és pusztítás látható. (Pár óra múlva már nem így nézett ki. ˇ~ˇ”) A többi anyag az ágyamon lévő zacskóban pihen, a földön karton, szétvágott újságpapír, vázlat, sima- és szabóolló, és minden egyéb feltétlenül szükséges kiegészítő, mint például egy macska fekszik.

So all in all about 20 new anime figures, 7 new dolls and a Joker statue not bad.

I haven’t been buying as many figures outside of preorders. Partially because after all these years I am running out of stuff that I don’t own that I still want. I think that is partially what is drawing me more and more to the dollfies if for no other reason then to have the thrill of the hunt again ^^;

Oddly I haven’t yet purchased this past month’s pullips :O I really don’t care for Neo Angelique all that much plus I was saving up for the new DD so I figured they could wait a little while. I have Angelique coming from HLJ now, I haven’t ordered the dal yet and I am not even going to bother with the taeyang. A bit of apathy as I near the 200 mark I guess ^^; On a somewhat related note I feel I am okay with blythes for a while at the moment unless I find a jaw dropping deal on My Little Candy.. I eventually want more but right now I am happy with who I have and I have full shelf.

At the moment, there is a picture contest on Tsuki-board: its theme is “music” (rather broad) and it ends at June 20th. It is the 1st contest on the website.
As moderator, I couldn’t take part in this contest (I will have to evaluate the competitors)… but I was finally allowed by boss to show a pic (see the picture above)… but I can’t win anyway =/ I would like to explain some stuff about this picture…

Il y a actuellement un concours d’image/photo sur le Tsuki-board : c’est le premier. Il a pour thème la musique et prend fin le 20 juin.
En tant que modérateur, je ne pouvais pas participer (j’aurais le rôle de juge pour définir les gagnants)… mais j’ai finalement été autorisé par le boss de réaliser une image pour l’occasion sans toutefois vraiment participer (voir image ci-dessus) Je voulais faire une sorte de making of…

J’avais envie de “participer” au concours car ça aurait été un peu un challenge, l’occasion de faire marcher mes méninges et de mobiliser ma créativité (mes dernières semaines étaient plutôt moroses… démotivation, etc…).
Lorsque je me suis mis à réfléchir ce que je pourrais faire, j’ai d’abord regarder l’aperçu de
l’aperçu de l’ensemble de ma collection… j’avais l’impression d’être mal barré xD

The first thing that I did when I told myself what I could do was to watch the thumbnails of my collection… and I felt it would be hard xD

Je cherchais lesquelles de mes figurines avaient un instrument de musique : j’avais focalisé sur la Myth Cloth de Pandore (Saint Seiya) avec sa jolie harpe en ayant déjà quelques idées en tête… puis en parcourant avec nonchalance mes photos, ma photo en contre-jour de Kallen Stadtfeld (photo ci-dessous) me rappela les pub d’ipod Voici un lien si vous ne connaissez pas: pub ipod shuffle… et il y en a plein d’autres.
I was looking for figure who had a music instrument : I was focused on Pandora’s Myth Cloth (Saint Seiya) who had a beautiful harp having already some ideas through my head. By browing my own pics, my blacklight pic with Kallen (the picture below) reminded me the ipod ads Here is a link but there are many others: ipod shuffle’s ad.

Cette figurine aurait pu faire l’affaire pour la pub ipod, mais je voulais varier et prendre une autre figurine… au final, j’ai laissé une Kallen pour en choisir une autre : la version Bunny girl d’Alpha x Omega que j’avais récemment reçue. J’ai donc pris une photo en contre-jour (à l’arrache) :
Well I directly thought that Kallen Stadtfeld uniform school by AxO could make the ipod ad… but I wanted to use another fig… I didn’t search a lot because I immediately thought of Kallen Kouzuki Bunny version by AxO (another Kallen). I received her shortly so I wanted her to be my model =3 So I took a blacklight pic :

Then I had to make some image editing to get the clean silhouette. I also had to choose which ipod I would make her use: I thought of the pink ipod nano chromatic… because pink matched with the color of the figure. I also pasted pictures to know what would be nicer to display (from left to right : the logo of the Black Knights, the cover of the OP2 of Code Geass R2, the cover of the 1st OST). Then I had to edit the picture because the fingers were not holding to ipod.
Il m’a ensuite fallu faire de la retouche d’image pour avoir un silhouette propre. J’ai également choisi le modèle d’ipod que Kallen tiendrait : j’ai jeté mon dévolu sur l’ipod nano chromatique rose car la couleur correspondait avec celle de la figurine. J’ai collé certaines images sur l’écran de l’ipod pour avoir un aperçu de ce que je ferais au final: de gauche à droite, il y a l’insigne des Chevaliers Noirs, la jaquette de l’OP2 de Code Geass R2 et la jaquette de l’OST 1). J’ai également eu à faire de la retouche d’image pour refermer la main de Kallen sur l’ipod.

Lors du tracé du cordon de l’écouteur (avec des courbes de Béziers définis avec les tangentes), je me demandais si le mini-jack se branchait en haut ou en bas de l’ipod… j’ai eu la réponse à la FNAC en demandant à un conseiller rayon: les nanos ont le jack en bas car l’écran prend déjà la place (les nanos sont vraiment fins).
While drawing the cable of the earphones (with Béziers curves), I was wondering if the mini-jack plug was on the bottom or on the top. I got the answer at a shop: at the bottom for the nanos because the screen already “uses the thickness” on the top.

Après coup, j’me suis rendu compte que mon image ressemblait beaucoup à l’apparence de la boîte de la figurine >_< M’enfin, le travail sur Apple était assez important aussi. D’ailleurs pour le slogan… je crois que finalement c’est une déclaration d’amour pour Kallen xD
After that I realized that my pictures looked like the appearance of the box =/ Anyway there is the work on Apple that was long. For the slogan, I guess I finally felt in love with Kallen xD

Well, after hour upon hour of hard work Kallen is complete. Working on a garage kit was enjoyable; at times stressful and frustrating but ultimately very rewarding. I’m extremely pleased with the result and it’s something I can proudly display and remember, “I made that.” I’d definitely go through the process again if I found a sculpt I liked as much as this one, but for now I think it’s time for a break from such consuming efforts. I would recommend trying a garage kit to anyone looking to expand their collection with a more personal touch. I have a few tips on painting and assembling, but first here’s the finished product! I’ll make a few other points before the rest of the photos. I used Humbrol enamel paints. I decided on enamel because it’s self-levelling, which makes it great for hand brushing. It smoothes itself to an even coat so you can’t see the brush strokes once it’s dry. The down side is that, from what I’ve heard, it takes longer to dry. As a result it’s probably more prone to getting bits of dust and so on stuck in it while it’s drying but most noticeable debris was pretty easy to manage, and the levelling seemed to work with touch-ups as well so they’d sort of fade into the main coat. That was a real plus with the amount of little touch-ups I did.

For assembly I used epoxy glue. It’s stronger than super glue and doesn’t become brittle over time, so it’s longer-lasting as well. It comes in a couple of different strengths, each with their own setting time. To start with I tried the maximum strength stuff, but the 45+ minute setting time was ridiculously unmanageable. I held Kallen’s right leg on the join for about half an hour (timed roughly by, fittingly, watching an episode of Code Geass) and it still wasn’t remotely adhered. Not wanting to have to hold each join together myself for an hour each, I rushed out and got the 5 minute stuff which worked perfectly. Don’t be fooled by the huge difference in setting time, all the joins seem plenty strong enough and it made the whole process much more comfortable and so much less time consuming.

This is a very short entry that actually represents a lot of work. Hours of painting has led to this and I’m quite happy with the results. I even like my colours more than the reference picture! I think they’re more true to the anime. There are some imperfections but they’re quite minor, mostly the sort of things you might expect from even some figures bought pre-painted. All that remains is assembly, and I’m very excited to have a finished product quite soon.

I started painting Kallen today and things are still going very well. The colours are looking great with the first coat; I’m especially happy with the hair colour. I made my own mix to try and get the same colour as the actual anime. There seem to be many different interpretations of Kallen’s hair colour but I wanted to stay true to the anime itself, and I’m pleased with the result so far. I still need to do base coats for her skin, sleeves, shoes and belt, then it’s on to giving everything a second coat and detailing (buttons, eyes etc).

I managed to get Kallen primed this evening so that, hopefully, I can start painting tomorrow. Primer is like a base coat that goes onto the resin to make sure that your actual paint work adheres properly, as some paints won’t stick to the resin properly if you paint straight onto it. I managed to get a spray primer so it was really easy and relatively quick to do. As long as you make sure to keep the spray can the recommended distance away and spray across the pieces rather than just pointing it straight at them, it seems to give a nice even layer. I’m really pleased with how this kit is coming along and can’t wait to start painting!

Ready to be painted! The real fun begins.

After about a week and half of waiting to find the time, I have started work on my 1/8 scale figure of Kallen Kouzuki from Code Geass. Kallen is one of my favourite characters in Code Geass, but I’ve found that figures of her in any of her combat outfits seem to be a little rare. When I saw this one on eBay, I loved it right away and the price was very good… then I saw that it was a garage kit. For those not in the know, that means it comes unassembled and unpainted. At first I was wary: I’d not done one before, would I be up to it? After thinking about it for a while, I decided that I’d like to give it a shot. Even if the outcome isn’t as good as I might hope, at least I’ll have had the experience of working on something like this. Here’s hoping Kallen does turn out well though, because aside from wanting something nice to display proudly in my collection, I’ll be keep you up to date with my progress here and it’d be a little embarrassing to mess up too badly at any point!

Having completed the first couple of steps in the construction process, I can gladly say things are going well so far! I managed to remove all the flash – excess resin left over from the casting process – and smooth out the surfaces nicely, I’ve given all the pieces a good clean to prepare the surface for painting, and it all seems to fit together quite well in dry tests. I may not have any experience with garage kits, but from what I’ve read about others it seems like this is a very well-cast kit. Flash was minimal and easy to remove, there are no significant seam lines to get rid of and all the parts seem like they’ll fit together just right without the need for any puttying. I couldn’t be any luckier, because I’m not sure how well I would have done if I’d needed to do any significant modifications.

I only ran into two problems while removing the flash. First, the tip of one the peaks of hair came off. I was worried at first but it was such a small piece that I was able to easily re-shape the peak, so now it looks fine… just a tiny bit shorter, though I don’t think you’d notice if I didn’t tell you. Second, her fringe comes as its own piece which is quite thin. I knew removing the flash would be hard as soon as I saw it. Sure enough, I quickly snapped the piece, but luck was on my side once again. It split perfectly in the center where the two sides meet, which made removing the flash incredibly easy. After test fitting, I really don’t think you’ll even be able to tell it split once it’s painted; nor would it matter if you could because it’s where her hair parts anyway. For this step I used a small pair of pliers to cut off the main chunk of flash, a large file for lowering the remainder and finally a small nail file to sand down the last of the flash and clean up the surrounding surface. These tools seemed to work just fine!

My main concern was with cleaning the parts. There are some pretty small pieces here and I was scared of losing some. They’re all pretty integral to ensuring Kallen looks right, so was as careful as I could be and thankfully all pieces are still present. For cleaning I used a mixture of dishwashing liquid, dishwashing powder and a relatively small amount of water. I scrubbed each piece with this mixture pretty thoroughly with an old tooth brush, making sure to get into every area. I’ve heard that cleaning is really important to ensure that any chemicals left over from casting are removed so that your paints and glue will adhere to the kit properly. After each piece had been scrubbbed it was left in water while I did the rest, then I scrubbed all the pieces again with regular water to make sure all the detergent was gone. I left everything sitting in water for another few minutes then dried each piece with a towel. Just to be sure of dryness, the kit is sitting on the windowsill as I write this.

Phew! No pieces missing, all nice and clean, ready for priming.

Now, off to buy primer, paints and glue! Hopefully it won’t be too long before I’m able to work on the kit again. I’d like to point out that while I’m taking tips from a variety of sources, I’m largely following Cody Kwok’s advice as well as just figuring things out of myself (that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?).
