I searched online for Myanmar metal stuff last night and found a forum. With great expectations, I clicked on the link.

What I found?

They were talking about… nu-metal??? Yes, nu-metal. Frigging hell mallcore stuff like Slipknot and Marilyn Manson. There were even people who mentioned Linkin Park and Flyleaf.

Seriously! There was nothing on it but mallcore. -.-

Next one was a blog. He was talking about Slipknot and how much he likes them and on another blog was an article on Myanmar metal scene and the author was talking about Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium. Frigging Metalcore.

Why can’t they just get out of this whole mallcore thing??? Why won’t they step deeper into the depths? WHY?????

There were even some people who said,”Slipknot is Death Metal”. Ya, go die. It pisses me off when I hear people saying crap like that.

Mallcore, Nu-metal, Metalcore, BFMV, A7X, Marilyn Manson, BMTH, blah blah blah and it goes on and on and on in a never finishing mallcore whirlpool. This is what’s happening  in Myanmar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Metal albums aren’t that rare anymore. You can pretty much buy them here. (Last week I got Black Sabbath:The Dio Years and Megadeth’s Endgame.) Or you can download them via Mediafire or 4shared (which I usually do).

Still people are still drowning in the mallcore whirlpool… labeling themselves “metalheads” with Slipknot songs in their mp3 players.

It’s time to ditch out mallcore people! Ditch it out and explore into the depths of Metal!

Compare it! Compare and listen! Compare Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Bring Me the Horizon, Atreyu (and whatever mallcore/metalcore/nu-metal stuff) to Iron Maiden, Death, Mayhem, Children Of Bodom, Judas Priest, (old) In Flames, Slayer, Dio, Black Sabbath, Kamelot, Gorgoroth, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Dark Tranquillity, Behemoth, Amon Amarth, Amorphis, Sonata Arctica, Opeth, Deicide, HammerFall, Moonspell, Venom, Testament, Morbid Angel, Candlemass, Exodus, My Dying Bride, Datkthrone, etc. Compare mallcore/nu-metal/metalcore to Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Progressive Metal, Power Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Blackened Death Metal, Traditional Heavy Metal, Symphonic Metal, Gothic Metal, etc. AND SEE THE DIFFERENCE!

… en Wallonie! Pas moins de 3 annonces de concert ont attiré mon attention cette semaine dont 2 par des affichages le long de la nationale que j’emprunte chaque matin pour aller travailler. Il y a d’abord la venue de Jorn Lande le 4 décembre dans la ferme du Biéreau à Louvain-La-Neuve (à côté de chez moi), ensuite celle de Kamelot au Coliseum de Charleroi le jeudi 25 mars 2010, et enfin le festival Power Prog and Metal Fest à Mons le 10 avril 2010 avec parmi les invités, de beaux noms de la scène progressive européenne tels que les groupes italiens DGM et Astra, les allemands de Dreamscape et d’Ivanohé, les norvégiens de Pagan’s Mind. Aux dernières nouvelles, Adagio aurait également rejoint l’affiche.

C’est évidemment la venue de Kamelot qui me parait le plus intéressante dans la mesure où ils nous présenteront certainement leur nouvel album. De plus, j’ai dernièrement regardé leur DVD “One Cold Winter’s Night”, concert enregistré à Oslo en 2006 pour la tournée de l’album “Black Halo”. Malgré une scène un peu exigue à mon avis, leur prestation est remarquable. Le chanteur Roy Khan est magistral, les différents duos avec des chanteuses et notamment Simone Simons d’Epica sur le titre “The Haunting” sont superbes. Les musiciens m’ont impressionné et principalement le claviériste qui démontre sur son solo toute sa maitrise technique et mélodique héritée de son apprentissage classique. On est donc en droit d’en attendre énormément de ce concert, il reste juste à espérer que la salle bénéficie d’une bonne qualité acoustique.

En fait j’ai connu cette salle du Coliséum lorsque celui-ci était encore un cinéma il y a… plus de 30 ans! J’habitais Charleroi pendant ma jeunesse mais à mon époque, il ne s’y passait absolument rien en concert. Comme les temps ont bien changé…

Sans doute que mon ami Paul S., grand fan de Kamelot aussi, se rendra au concert. C’est une belle occasion à ne pas manquer.

Le festival à Mons nous offre aussi une affiche alléchante. J’adore en effet DGM et Dreamscape. Ces derniers devraient également présenter leur nouvel album à cette occasion avec le(s) nouveau(x) chanteur(s) dont Titta Tani l’ancien de DGM.

Quant à Jorn, j’ai un doute  concernant la salle de la ferme du Biéreau. En effet, celle-ci est assez étroite et parsemée de colonnes, et je ne sais pas si son acoustique convient pour un groupe de rock.

Okay since I am going in about Myanmar Metal scene and all that stuff, I think I should list up some metal genres and bands I listen to.

I like Melodeath, Thrash, Power, Death, Black, Progressive, Speed, Symphonic, Gothic, Traditional Heavy, and even Metalcore… well almost all metal genres. And I am big fan of Children of Bodom, Judas Priest and Metallica. I also like Iced Earth, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Iron Maiden, Kamelot, Vanishing Point, DragonForce, Cannibal Corpse, Apocalyptica, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, Opeth, Kreator, Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth, Nightwish, Exodus, Megadeth, Slayer, and so on. As for -core, As I Lay Dying, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall and I Killed the Prom Queen. Okay enough for the list. Let’s get to the point.

Metal scene in Myanmar…

To say the truth, whenever I think of it, it makes me frown.

Well, I’ll say an example. There are ten metal fans from Myanmar. Among those ten, five have only listened to nu-metal and -core bands and have never heard of bands like Iron Maiden. (You can refer to those “metal fans” as “so-called”s if you want).

If you meet someone in Myanmar who claims to like metal, ask him what he listens to. Most likely, he will begin talks about Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Slipknot and/or Marilyn Manson. I’ve met some dudes who say,”Slipknot is Death Metal, so heavy!!!” and I was like “WTF was that!???”. When I show them Iron Maiden, they gave me something like “Is this even metal?”. There are also some people who say,”Metallica ain’t good. They ain’t heavy. blah blah blah”. If they want to listen to all that screaming, go listen to screamo.

Also, they are some people who’ve only listened to Slipknot and Marilyn Manson and think they’ve listened to true metal. And they blabber stuff like,”Metal is just screaming out and they don’t need to care about lyrics, blah blah blah.” Imagine how much I got pissed off. Metal is one of the music genres which has various and really lyrical themes. The themes range from Religion, Mythology, Philosophy, Politics to Society, Personal Struggles, Suffering and Love. There are also loads of concept albums (e.g-Kamelot’s Epica, Black Halo, Iced Earth’s Something Wicked Saga).

And another thing, metal isn’t all about being heavy. Try listening to bands like Vanishing Point, Kamelot, Nightwish, etc. Also, there are ballads like The Unforgiven, The Unforgiven II, etc by Metallica and A Tout Le Monde by Megadeth. What I want to say is,”Don’t blabber if you really haven’t listened to metal.”

One more thing, metal fanbase here still isn’t really big and mostly those “metalheads” listen to nu and -core. I used to like nu-metal. But I stopped listening to it, once I got in touch with Melodeath, Thrash, Power, Death, etc. Try it out. Compare nu to other metal genres. There, you will see the difference.

As for Metalcore, I still listen to it. I enjoy listening to bands like As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, I Killed the Prom Queen, etc. I used to be a big fan of Bullet For My Valentine. Even now, I listen to some of their songs. What I want to say here is just because they’ve listened to those -core bands, they act like they’ve listened to true metal. Some don’t even know AILD or KSE.

This shouldn’t happen.

To all those “so-called” “metalheads” in Myanmar, if you really like metal, explore! Go in depths! Don’t just stop with nu or -core. The bad thing here is, you can’t buy much metal CDs. About half of the albums I have were downloaded.

The underground metal bands here mostly play metalcore. Well, I like All Else I Fail and Last Day of Beethoven for metalcore. For other metal genres, I’d list Yakkhadeva, Architect of Misery and Book of Death. I also wish I could see more underground metal bands that create other metal genres than metalcore.

I guess, Metal scene in Myanmar will take some time to become like Hip Hop or Punk scenes which are currently growing rapidly.

But anyway,

Otra y tal vez la mejor o mas importante banda griega, Firewind destaca por un bien logrado heavy/power metal, ha participa en importantes giras con Dragonforce y es un autentico referente de su país. Creo y puedo recomendar al lector de este post el álbum “Alliance” del 2006.

The Black Halo is the seventh full-length album produced by metal band Kamelot. It was released on March 15, 2005, through Steamhammer Records. It is a concept album loosely based on Goethe’s Faust. Continuing the story introduced in Epica, it is the second and final record in Kamelot’s two-part concept about Ariel. It features guest appearances by Simone Simons (Epica), Shagrath (Dimmu Borgir), Jens Johansson (Stratovarius), and several others. The album was released on vinyl in the spring of 2009, along with Ghost Opera^[1][2][3].

Kamelot es un grupo de origen principalmente estadounidense perteneciente al género del power metal con un toque más melódico, es una de las bandas estadounidenses nacidas en la camada de 1990. Sus giras se han extendido a lo largo de los 5 continentes en los últimos años

Kamelot es quizás de mis bandas preferidas, no así sus videos, de todos ellos rescato únicamente “the haunting”, los demás, a pesar de su buena edición y dirección, creo que no llaman mucho la atención debido en parte a que los temas que eligen no son de lo mejor de esta banda, y justamente en sus últimos cd´s es donde más vídeos han creado, donde también, al menos para mi gusto, sus temas dejan mucho que desear en comparación con álbumes como Karma o Epica. De todas formas les dejo algunos de estos trabajos, haber que les parece. Si aún no conoces esta banda, presta especial atención a la magnifica y impecable entonación, singular de KAN, su vocalista…
