This is the new single from Craig David’s new album Signed, Sealed, Delivered. It samples the Four Tops classic Motown hit  Standing In The Shadows, apparently he is doing a whole album of them (not sure what to make of that). I think this has the ability to reach the higher realms of the chart, considering its Euro-Dance beat and of course Craig David’s effortlessly sick vocals.

Craig David is so insanely underrated it beggars belief. If you look at this current generation of R&B singers or singers period, not many can touch him in terms of talent, he has the ability to spit-sing, harmonise and freestyle yet still make it look easy. He is easily one of the most multi-talented artists this country is ever going to produce.

People seem to overlook his talent and achievements, he was the youngest male solo artist to reach no.1, he went platinum in the U.S and sold over 13 million albums worldwide, yet some U.K artists think they are something special when their album goes gold (ahem, Chipmunk).

This is the same guy that Elton John described as the ‘Best singer in England’, Kano said he is ‘one of the great U.K artists of our generation‘, even Diddy and Lil Wayne said he was the ish.

So it ain’t like he got no pedigree, he just needs the British public to support him more, rather than ridicule because it is ‘cool’ to do so and his LABEL NEED TO RELEASE THE RIGHT TRACKS, how tracks like Eeenie Meenie, Hypnotic, She’s On Fire and Kinda Girl were not released is beyond me. If there any doubters of his ability just check his cover of Michael Jackson’s Human Nature.

Noi Siamo Tifosi – has been described as a 1982 VHS Italian love affair between Blondie, Sylvester, Kano, Grace Jones. The founding member, electronic DJ/Producer Harris Robotis, wanted to share his love of vintage sounds, mirror balls and anything golden. This helped form and shape the direction of what started as a solo studio project into the electrifying live disco band We:Are:Fans.

With early label interest We:Are:Fans’ debut EP in due for release early 2010, Robotis and his newly recruited band are currently busy in the studio writing and recording live handclaps, maracas and triangles for their full length disco explosion.

After only a handful of shows, this summer We:Are:Fans’ mirror ball is set to spin with the band making their debut festival appearance at Hot Barbeque in January 2010

The Kano model is a theory of product development and customer satisfaction developed in the 80’s by Professor Noriaki Kano which classifies customer preferences into five categories:

• Attractive
• One-Dimensional
• Must-Be
• Indifferent
• Reverse

These categories have been translated into English using various different names (delighters/exciters, satisfiers, dissatisfiers, etc.), but all refer to the original articles written by Kano.

The Kano model offers some insight into the product attributes which are perceived to be important to customers. The purpose of the tool is to support product specification and discussion through better development team understanding. Kano’s model focuses on differentiating product features, as opposed to focusing initially on customer needs. Kano also produced a methodology for mapping consumer responses to questionnaires onto his model.

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) makes use of the Kano model in terms of the structuring of the Comprehensive QFD matrices. Mixing Kano types in QFD matrices can lead to distortions in the customer weighting of product characteristics. For instance, mixing Must-Be product characteristics –such as cost, reliability, workmanship, safety, and technologies used in the product–in the initial House of Quality will usually result in completely filled rows and columns with high correlation values. Other Comprehensive QFD techniques using additional matrices are used to avoid such issues. Kano’s model provides the insights into the dynamics of customer preferences to understand these methodology dynamics.

Sooo I haven’t really posted much on here for a while…but I guess that’s for the better, ’cause I’ve just hit a load of hot tracks. I’ve been getting into the more garage/UK funky side of dubstep these days, a lot of it verges into house and techno but it’s still all really about rhythm. I was fuckin’ around on the internet earlier and stumbled into the recent Gilles Peterson Radio 1 show where he had Thom Yorke as a guest. Surprisingly, Yorke was quite relaxed and chatty – he seems like the temperamental sort usually. Anyway, Yorke and Peterson picked so many chooons, some of them from Mad Decent/Stones Throw/Warp/Hyperdub, some jazz, some Can, and a bit more leftfield dubstep, which was great! Yorke talked about collaborations with Madvillain, which sounds pretty interesting. He didn’t have much to say, but I could tell Gilles was excited about the prospect, but Thom wasn’t giving anything away.

Anyway, this reminded me I’d recently acquired a new remix of Radiohead by the up-and-coming mystery, SBTRKT. I think Gilles had him in the studio a couple of weeks ago but I missed that show…the tracklisting looks good, so if anyone can get hold of it gimme a heads up! Anyway, the SBTRKT track is only a white label I think, so it’s simply called “Right Place”. It uses a lot of interesting layering techniques in the intro, then gets it’s a shuffly riddim that would storm the decks any club any night. So see what you think, probably a good set-ender, right?

And yeah, yesterday, a new track from the brand spanking GORILLAZ album surfaced. This one features the wonderful Mr. MOS DEF, as well as soul legend Bobby Womack, and is quite a sombre, 80’s-inspired affair (which sounds bad, but for a throwback it works surprisingly well). Hopefully the new album will be pretty fucking diverse, and so it should be – contributors this time include the usual De La Soul, members of The Clash, Gruff Rhys (of Super Furry Animals), Mark E Smith (of The Fall), Lou Reed, more from Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Kano and Bashy. The contrast of the last few should be interesting – two rappers from the US of very different styles, and two rappers from the UK of slightly different leanings. I really hope this one doesn’t disappoint – then again the last album took a while to sink in…

Also new out is some new material from JOY ORBISON. I was tempted to lead with this, but that would be too obvious. Everybody loves the stuff this guy does. He seems like a bit of a shy horse…I think he was supposed to play at the NYE night I went to @ Plan B in Brixton but must’ve copped out or something (though we still got Tayo and Oneman, and more)! But yeah, this new stuff does not disappoint. I would put the lead track up, but I thought you’d be more interested in the B-side, as I’m sure the other track (“The Shrew Would Have Cushioned the Blow”) will be all over the blogs soon. Also, I managed to find a few rarities of his so I’ll pop one of those up too…

As I was talking about Madvillain before, thought I might check you a very new remix of the head single from Born Like This – “Gazzillion Ear”. And no, it’s not the Thom Yorke remix everyone’s heard, or that one with Kanye West (fuck him! What is he doing? Trying to ruin good music again). It’s by a producer from Philly called DR WHO DAT?, aka Jneiro Jarel (who produced some John Robinson stuff) and it’s pretty smoking hot. If I can get hold of the remix by Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio, I’ll be sure to put that up soon too!

“Gazzillion Ear” (Dr Who Dat? Remix) – DOOM (zshare)

Another thing to drop in the last couple of days was the new FOUR TET LP, which is genius. I’m sure people will catch on and realise this is going to be one of the best albums of the year. I hope it does stand its ground that long – releasing stuff this time of the year is a bit of a flaw in my opinion. The track I found most interesting is a gradual, scathing beaut with female harmonies, 8-bit rhythm and the trademark Hebden percussion. It’s all cut up like a Clark track too, which is awesome. Have atcha!

Anyway, as I set out to put up dance music, I’ll come back to it…I’ve recently noticed a young producer called JULIO BASHMORE, and he makes quite interesting stuff. He’s clearly realised what’s ‘hot’ at the moment, and drawn it all together in his sound. And yeah, it works. It fucking works. The best example is in his remix of the surprise new single from Buraka Som Sistema, as you can hear below. And I suggest you do, before you look like a douche. I also suggest you buy the Buraka Som Sistema Fabriclive.49 too. Or I will fight you.

More interesting producers keep popping up too – one who seems a little harder to discover is this guy called MELÉ. He’s on Sounds of Sumo, and…I dunno…his tracks are all pretty bangin’, but this one stuck out for me. It seems all these high-profile producers try quite hard to produce a track like this, and this guy’s just come out of the blue with his first release (or so I know) and it’s stonkin’. Woah.

“Bingo” – Melé (zshare)

The remixes of El Guincho have been a long time coming, but they’re finally here. I’ve only heard another one, but the most tricky so far is by continental soundsystem AL HACA. Their beats are a reminder you can still make slow-style, simple tempo rhythms that don’t have to be dubstep, dark techno etc. I can’t think who else is like that. They hit it better than Poirier or Zomby in a way. It’s quite interesting. It’s moody, but still tribal. This remix does seem quite dark at times, but give it a try!

Okay, I said I’d switch back to dance music…well…I lied I guess…my last feature is on a band I don’t know much about, but I’ve seen them crop up with a song or two every now and then. Their name stuck out for me, with its Spaghetti Western style, which is ironic considering when I heard this track it reminded me of Ennio Morricone’s off-kilter riffs and signatures. And the song’s lovely in its own right. The vocals are a little like Simon & Garfunkel or Crosby, Stills & Nash, or a choir of Beck clones. I love how the track crackles along like a fried egg. Powerful stuff.

As you’ve been so patient, I’ll give you some more cheeky dancy stuff. The first is one I myself found hard to find, so thought I’d help some people out – MARTYN’s genius remix of one of my favourite tunes by Flying Lotus. Then there’s a new D’n'B-esque tune by RESO, and a pretty fit remix of Fever Ray from SCUBA. I thought I’d end things with L-Vis 1990’s mate BOK BOK, who makes pretty crazy shit too, but doesn’t usually quite get the coverage (probably due to the fact he’s not signed to Mad Decent)…

One of UK’S most valuable artists, KANO, came hard with his new music video “MORE THAN ONE WAY” produced by DUTCH OUTFIT NOISIA, accompanied by a children’s choir. The video was directed by Emil Nava , who also directed Tinchy Stryder’s “You Are Not Alone” and Sugababes “Get Sexy” videos. Also responsible was John Perez, Director of Photography, who worked on videos such as Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida“, Jay-Z’s “Empire State Of Mind“).

According to KANO’s representatives, “MORE THAN ONE WAY” “is intended as a winter warmer to keep the home fires burning brightly ahead of further material and the new Kano album. BBC Radio 1 have already dubbed the new single as “The Hottest Song In The World ” (Zane Lowe) and “The Hottest Record In The Streets” (Tim Westwood).

The video conveys “an inspirational message to fans and followers over a sparse, atmospheric beat. The video for the song was shot at night on the River Thames during early December.”

KANO’s representatives also stated that the British rapper’s new album is “due out this spring and promises to be a significant milestone in the career of the London-born lyricist. At present, production credits include, ghetto-pop duo Radioclit (Santigold, MIA, The Very Best), Berlin’s electro-house upstart Boys Noize (Feist, A Trak, Bloc Party), purveyors of synthetic soul, Hot Chip, as well as long-term collaborators Mikey J and songwriter/producer Fraser T Smith.”

UK rapper kano has reponded to the TimesOnline article posted on Sunday which described him as a “foul-mouthed rapper”

Speaking to The Guardian, he said:

The Sunday Times wrote a negative piece about my involvement in promoting the diploma, trying to paint me as the stereotypical “bad-boy rapper”. The piece was full of mistakes. For one thing, I’m not helping Ed Balls, I’m helping the future of our youth, and if it wasn’t about that then I wouldn’t be involved. “Foul-mouthed” or not, I’m doing more for my community than a lot of others. This scheme could potentially change a young person’s future for the better, so how could you be against that?

Just thought I’d reappear in the world just to ensure I don’t fall away from the blog for too long and also to stall before I do review some stuff which I kind of need to listen to first. So I just thought I’d post 2 lovely motivational and heart-warming videos from 2 of my favourite UK acts.

Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip – Get Better

As usual with these guys, this song carries a wonderful message and the combination of le Sac’s chirpy beats and Scroobius Pips ingenious poetic monologue makes for an excellent track. The video is similarly heart-warming and carries a nice message of hope for the youth of today, well I reckon anyway. If you don’t know le sac and Pip very well, I urge you to check them out and then you can get yourself as excited as I am about their new album due out in March I believe.

Kano – More Than One Way

Another inspirational track and video for the younger generation. I believe Kano has got government support and is championing a campaign for new students to get diplomas. In fact this song is available for free off a government based website (http://yp.direct.gov.uk/diplomas/kano/) which also has plenty of info on the subject.

What wonderful human beings these guys are. Shows there’s still some people proud and hopeful and backing the young generation.

Kano’s single “More Than One Way” is available to download for FREE and is in support of The Diploma. It is a part of a major project aimed at kids to make them aware of available Diplomas and ultimately positively promote education.

The concept of the advert is great! I hope it does inspire the kids to get an education. The advert reminds me of Jay-Z’s “Girls Girls Girls” music video outro. Big up Kano for the positivity! Let’s all just ignore the ignorant writer who wrote the rubbish about him in the Guardian

Kano recently dropped the video for his single ‘More Than One Way’. Nobody can deny that its a positive single and that Kano’s highlighting a number of alternatives to typical ghetto get rich quick lifestyles. See video below…

Off the back of this, he then, with the support of Ed Balls (The Schools Secretary), went and made this small advert highlighting diploma’s.

Then, off the back of that, Jack Grimston from the Times writes this article. Entitle ‘Fould-mouthed rapper Kano helps Ed Balls promote school diplomas’.

I feel unable to understand how this makes any sense? Kano does something positive – yet get slated by Jack Grimston.

Looking at this tool’s other articles, I see nothing positive, encouraging or uplifting young people further into education – so what gives him the right to go off on one at Kano?

Who else is going to reach these youts in the street. Ed Balls – NO, Jack Grimston – NO, Gordon Brown – NO. How about someone young and ‘hip’ like David Cameron? or maybe even David Miliband?…….No I thought not.

I still feel this guy is the UK’s best export. His flow, delivery, originality – everything is on point. Hopefully in 2010 he can make some moves.

However  the TimesOnline has chosen to promote the scheme in a negative light…

Foul-mouthed rapper Kano helps Ed Balls to promote school diplomas

The schools secretary, Ed Balls, has enlisted a rapper famous for his violent and obscenity-strewn lyrics to promote diplomas, Labour’s alternatives to GCSEs and A-levels.

Kano, a “grime” star who sprang to fame in 2005, has produced a new song and video, released for free download today, which pupils studying for the qualifications have helped to produce. The song, More Than One Way, has been featured by the Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe in his “hottest record in the world today” slot.

The song’s lyrics are mild by Kano’s standards — although it does include a reference to Gordon Ramsay and “The F Word” — but the choice of Kano, 24, is likely to prove controversial given his previous work such as Ghetto Kid.

That included lines such as: “Don’t f*** with me / I’ve got my knife and I could get a nine milli [9mm pistol] / And niggas know I’m blowin’ up shows like a terrorist.”

Balls’s choice of Kano, born Kane Brett Robinson in East Ham, east London, is an unlikely embracing by the Establishment of a form of music once seen as the preserve of alienated black youth.

The author of this Times Online article, Jack Grimston, is obviously hung up on the historical image of the ‘rapper’.

Street life is the common theme in 90% of rap lyrics worldwide, but artists of all genres write contentious lyrics. However, when an artist steps out of their box and does something positive, why is it necessary to bring up old lyrics, and how is it fair to call them foul-mouthed in a headline? Lyrics are a part of a musicians artistic expression and not necessarily a reflection of a normal conversation with that person.

The only way this headline could be justified was if Kano used profanity in the actual song the video is promoting.  Mr Grimston should know that even mentioning a reference to Gordon Ramsey and ‘The f Word’ is reaching!

Madonna, George Michael, Bono etc have all shown what they are like in real life by swearing on live radio or TV in the past, yet somehow the foul-mouthed tag eludes them…

When are we going to stop being aghast, shocked etc when a white journalist makes these unfair comparisons and just call it what it is – Racism. The same racism that makes UK journalists call people like Chris Brown and Sisqo rappers! Coz all rappers look alike!

Last year a journalist made unfair comments about the gay lifestyle and received so many complaints she had to resign.

There have been a load of twitter talk about this but only 2 comments on the actual article, what’s the point of moaning among ourselves?
