If you are a fan of the UK rap/ Urban scene than take a look at some of the guys who helped paved the way for the young ones of today. Who is your favourite and have a reminded you of some you may have forgotten. It has been one hell of a struggle to get this type of music to the mainstream and I am proud of the movement. I do not rate every single one of the acts , however, I give credit where its due, some are not around in the game today but still Happy Larry salutes you!!! Enjoy.

Iceberg Slim:

He tried to impersonate an American and it simply did not work. To be fair he was one of the earliest rappers from the UK I remember trying to get big. It never happened but HappyLarry will always remember Iceberg Slim.

So Solid:

Regardless of what anyone thinks of these guys you cannot deny they were the first ones to do it big and rep it big for the UK scene. I believe their problems were controversy and the media who hated them. I know they have released a new song but it will flop the time has now passed, but HappyLarry still says I salute you ‘So Solid’.

Dizze Rascal

‘Roll Deep’ must hate this guy, lol.Another guy you can hate if you want but cannot deny his achievements. His first album that went big titled ‘Boy In Da Corner’ was a major success with tracks such as ‘I Luv U’, ‘Fix up, Look sharpe’ and ‘Jus a Rascal’. He has managed to survive the times because he has evolved to using beats which are good if you like Ibiza in ‘Holiday’ and ‘Bonkers’. That’s how you survive.

Kano:

I don’t know what to say he came out on fire and had a hype when he dropped ‘P’s & Q’s’ and still had it by the time of ‘Brown eyes’ but past his first album I always saw him slipping. He has talent but doe’s not have the right team marketing him the way he needs to be, lose the street and get some big features may have brought him back. Unfortunately I think it is too late now. Shout out to Kano.

Black Twang

I did like a couple of his song sand he was cool, but he never had the material or image to really take the game by a storm. He is a local rapper who had some love but that’s about it but still I respected his efforts. Big Up Black Twang. The biggest thing that came out of his career was helping Estelle get out there because she is Hollywood now, right?

Wiley

Unfortunately for Wiley he was too slow to catch on to the game. It took him how many years to realise that the mainstream market would never accept the stuff he was doing and that he looked far to hood. By the time of ‘Rolex’ he was hiding away but It was too little too late. Still no hate here, just respect for another victim of the game.

Ms Dynamite

Ever since her affiliation with ‘So Solid’ she looked like a shining star in my eyes. Her flow at the time was simply crazy, I had never heard a chick get down like that at the time. Suddenly she tried to go Lauryn Hill on us, which was cool because she enjoyed success from it. Her problem was preaching too much and then not following what she was telling others. A silly mistake that cost her great success, still RIP Ms Dynamite.

Estelle

In my opinion very lucky to have gone so big. If she could not sing she would have been gone, but well done for her achievements so far I believe it wont last long if she keeps trying to rep UK too much. Just stop trying to represent UK on tracks so much and you should be cool.

Roots Manuva

A victim of his own artistic integrity. He never really tried to commercialize and that is the only reason why he never made it big. A shame because he is my favourite of them all. But like he said ‘I made a little cash’ so it’s not all bad. I salute you Roots Manuva.

N Dubz

These guys know what they are doing, the whole thing works although I think they are repeating themselves a bit too much. In regards to the second album sounding like an extension of the first, watch out because the game can be cruel. Keep it moving N- Dubz.

Tinchy Stryder

In my opinion the least talented of the whole group but it does not matter he is doing well. Some how his team have managed to get Taio Cruz and Amelle (of the sugababes) on his tracks , amazing. Well done Tinchy.

Chipmunk

This guy is dangerous. He is only 17 I think but he has a bright future, the girls love him and he has a tight flow for a young one. If he keeps his eye on the ball he could be the first to take it to America – I cant explain why but something says he could do it if he just keeps improving. Plus lets hope puberty works out for him.

Oxide and Neutrino

I never did like these guys but again I respect those who were doing it. These guys did it so fair play, HappyLarry takes off his hat.

The Streets

White Boy decides to talk on the track and his group go big. Great stuff, I have all the albums excluding the last which sounded like a pile of crap. But they did and they were original I loved that, however, time has taken its toll and the interest in them is fading.  I salute ‘The Streets’.

Big Brovaz

You guys had it all it was perfect. Than you boy whatever his name is had to get himself in the paper for a weed addiction. In my opinion the dumbest reason to lose your lifestyle, but never mind two of the girls have gone clear so half of you are still successful.

Sway

Apparently he claims to be number one in UK. One look at this video will tell you a different story. He had a buzz in the beginning and I even liked some stuff almost but an album, but he is lacking that X factor to really go far. None the less he has done well to get this far. We salute U Sway!

Giggs

By far the coldest Uk rapper I have heard. I am not a fan of the content of his music but at the same time kind of like the gritty sound. He will never make it big on a commercial level for obvious reasons but still a lot of the scene has love for him (road guys).

Just heard ‘Brown Eyes’ for the first time in a while. Its one of them songs that even though its old you can always listen to it

Så er vi igang med bogstavet K, og først (på trods af denne blog ) kunne jeg ikke komme i tanke om en eneste sportsgren der begyndte med K…KIDS-Volley.

I Danmark er kids-volley en af de hurtigst voksende sportsgrene både inden for børn og teen. I den klub, hvor jeg underviser, har vi på Level 4 28 børn tilmeldt, mod ca 10 sidste år. Det er volleyball udviklet for børn, så der kommer gang i spillet.

Vores erfaring siger os, at voksne også kan have glæde af nogle børneøvelser. Vi har f.eks. om nogle uger juleafslutning, her vil vi spille et Level 2 åben stævne, hvor forældre og søskende kan deltage, og vi blander holdene. Der plejer at være rigtig meget sjov med det.

Det ser da både lidt for spændende ud – jeg tænker på haj billedet, men også meget flot ud – her tænker jeg på de to andre billeder.

Og jeg må indrømme, at jeg tidligere på ugen da jeg søgte, fandt et billede hvor de spillede bold imens de roede kajak. Det så sjovt ud. Det kunne jeg godt tænke mig at prøve.

Da jeg var helt ung, var jeg 2 gange på kano tur oppe i Sverige.  Den ene gang startede vi ved Bengtsfors, den anden gang kan jeg ikke huske bynavnet, men vi sejlede igennem Bengtsfors. Det var en superskøn ferieform, men vi var også heldige med vejret. Høj sol, 20-25 graders varme, og en støvregn ved 16:00 tiden hver dag, hvilket passede os fint, for vi var jo helt svedige af al den sol.

The movie ended up falling apart, but the sketches are still available for sale, and they are fucking gorgeous, my personal favorite being the Harkonnen Flagship (which looks remarkably similar to a preposterously elaborate bong).
- It’s amazing, but you take a girl who’s on the wrong side of the attractive Mendoza line, throw her in a Princess Leia slave girl outfit, and a guy’ll at least take a second look. It’s a scientific fact.
- Oh. My. God. This is…why? How much money did this company spend to create the world’s most advanced robot vagina? Look, a little blurb by me isn’t going to do this thing justice, so just go to the site and check this ridiculousness out. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
- This is pretty cool: stereomood claims to be able to tailor a streaming playlist for you according to your mood, and you know what? It’s actually pretty accurate.
- One of the crazy things about living on your own as a guy is finding new uses for supposedly specialized devices. Example: in the last few days, I have seen waffle iron recipes ranging from pizza pockets to bacon and 90-second cookies.
- So Peter Jackson (he of Lord of the Rings fame) and Neil Blomkamp, the guy who wrote District 9, were working on a Halo movie in 2002 when various studio/funding issues caused the whole project to get dropped. Which was stupid, in my opinion, because a well-executed Halo movie would be an easy choice for biggest movie of the year, but whatever. On the plus side, even though the movie got shelved, an 8-minute short film was used as a sort of extended commercial, and here it is in all its glory:

There is a great interview that Solomon Nda-Isaiah and Kucha E. Jeremiah did with Hausa film and music star Sani Danja in this week’s Sunday Leadership. Since I can’t find the online version of the article, I will post a photo of the hard copy here and a few excerpts from the interview. This article comes from Leadership Sunday, November 29, 2009. In the article Sani Danja talks about his music and film career, his activites as a Glo ambassador, and his opinions on the recent actions of the Kano State government on Hausa filmmakers.

When being asked about the reasons he decided to relocate to Abuja, although having offices in both Abuja and Kano, Danja says

“The thing is, there are so many rules and regulations guiding the industry in Kano. They are numerous; we have been stopped from doing any shooting or film-related activities in Kano for like six months and now they are telling us that you’ll have to get an office, have a minimum capital of N2.5m, employ a secretary, and the rest. There are so many things. If you sum up everything, it would be close to N8 or N10m. Somebody that has been stopped from work for like six months, where do you expect him to get such money? Even if we were allowed to do the movie, how much do we get out of it? It is but chicken change, yet we pay taxes. We pay government tax, yet they have never built anything to support us. They have never contributed anything to the filming business.

In response to the management of two offices in Abuja and Kano, he replies:

There’s always division of labour in a company. You have other people who look after different aspects of a company but most of my operations are directed from Kano. My parents have taught me obedience. I don’t want to fight the government. If the government says it doesn’t want this, I’ll have to stay aside. There are other states ready to welcome us. They want us to come and are always ready to open their doors to us. We don’t sell our products alone in Kano, we sell it all over the world. Everywhere you go, you see our products. Not only in Kano, Kaduna, Abuja, or Niger, they are everywhere, so for us to be stopped in one place is not a problem. You have to boost your own image. Because we want to live peacefully with everybody, that is why we had to acquire two offices, to broaden our horizons.

When asked if he had any advice for the government on disciplinary measures against filmmakers, Danja says:

First of all, they’ll have to look at it from this angle; filming is a business, and in every business, when you invest your money, you’ll think of better ways to get your money back. They should have it at the back of their minds that moviemakers have invested in their movies. One cannot be an investor while another comes to forcefully direct him on what to do. It is very impossible. If you want to direct somebody or tell him what to do in his own business, invest in the business.

As the government, they have the money and they can invest to boost the industry, they can afford to spend on every producer (at least twenty to thirty million) then tell the producer: “this is the type of film we want you to produce and we would pay you”. But in a situation where the government does not do that and you take pains to invest in the business, and they come tell you: “remove this, do this and that,” that would be impossible to obey. You have spent a lot of money, running into millions of naira, and at the end of the day, someone sits somewhere to tell you to: “Remove this. We don’t want this and that.” Those could be interesting parts that make your movie sell. How do you think that would work? I would advise the government to think again. They should know that these are people who acquire the resources invested in the business independently. They didn’t go to bother anybody or steal. They do this to keep their soul and body going, and they pay taxes to the government at the end of the day. I think the government needs to support us so that we would bring more money to them. We can be made role models for others who have already engaged or wish to engage themselves in one dubious act or the other to know that it is not only by engaging in criminal acts that you can make it in life. There are legitimate ways to better one’s life.

The government should not just sit down, creating rules and laws that would cripple our activities at the end of the day, without minding the effect it would have on us. If the son to any of the government officials were involved in something like this, they would have thought of better ways to handle it. The worst part of it is that any of our members who happens to make any mistake would be sentenced to jail. For example, if you record an album they don’t like, they won’t even try you. All they would do is to jail you or frustrate you by refusing to renew your revenue. They take you to jail without trial in the end. It is inhuman. We are not criminals. Even in armed robbery cases, they grant them bail. Here we are, honourably engaging in legitimate business. [...]

Afinal, estamos falando de nada mais nada menos que um dos jogos de videogame mais violentos da década de 90, ainda existente até os dias atuais, após inúmeras novas versões, chamado Mortal Kombat! Prepare-se para a batalha…

Se você, assim como eu (no bom sentido), gastou sua preciosa e curta infância, horas e horas em frente à TV, com os dedos doídos e calejados de tanto esfregar o joystick, desafiando os amigos e treinando aquele novo Fatality que vc acabou de ler na revista, continue lendo pois certamente você irá gostar desse post! Caso naum tenha a menor idéia sobre o que esse doido, que aqui escreve, se refere, continue lendo tb, afinal se você está aqui é pq naum tem PN melhor pra fazer agora, não é mesmo!? E aposto que irá se divertir…

O principal sucesso do Mortal Kombat na década de 90 não se deu apenas pela boa jogabilidade do console (o que inclui rancar o coração ou a cabeça de seu adversário, queimá-lo vivo, ou o explodir, dentre outros), lançado originalmente para Super Nintendo (ê saudades!), mas principalmente pelo realismo dos gráficos! Tudo isso graças à estratégia inovadora da Midway de utilizar Atores Reais (é isso mesmo!) e não apenas aqueles personagens tortos, computadorizados e, consequentemente, escrotos (quem já jogou Oscar sabe exatamente do que estou me referindo).

Quando a Midway resolveu fazer o jogo e anunciou a procura por profissionais de perfil atlético e com bom domínio de artes marciais para interpretarem os personagens, houve mais inscrições que o bbb e ídolos, juntos! Confiram alguns testes que o blog Amor Com Humor teve acesso exclusivo e lhes trazem em primeira mão, mostrando o quão árduo foi o processo de escolha!

Que tal conhecermos agora alguns dos escolhidos?! Começarei por um dos principais personagens: Sub-Zero, o homem de gelo! Interpretado pelo modelo, fisiculturista, personal trainer, ex-policial e ator (o que o google naum faz, não?!) John Turk, que também caracterizou demais personagens do jogo, como Shang Tsung, Sub-Zero Clássico, Scorpion, Reptile, Smoke, Rain, Ermac, Noob Saibot e Chameleon!

De acordo com o site Mortal Kombat Secrets (www.mksecrets.net), de onde as imagens foram tiradas, para os personagens que utilizavam o mesmo modelo de roupa, variando apenas a cor, a vestimenta era única, ou seja, esse vermelho são-paulino que o John usa na foto acima, e todo o truque era realizado no computador.

Demais atores também merecem destaque, dentre eles, Lia Montelongo (Sindel e Sareena), John Parrish (Jax Briggs) e Richard Divizio (Kano, Baraka, Kabal, Quan Chi).

Na segunda fileira, mas não menos importantes, Sal Divita (Nightwolf, Cyrax, Sektor e Cyber-Smoke), Tony Marquez (Kung Lao) e Brian Glynn (Shao Kahn).

Ocupando a terceira e última fileira, só as meninas, iniciando pela boneca de borracha (sim, os 4 braços não eram reais! kkkkkk) Sheeva, Becky Gable (Mileena, Kitana, Jade e Khameleon) e Kerri Hoskins (musa da Playboy e Sonya Blade).

Agora que já foram apresentados, que tal um pouco de ação?!

Trabalhar com atores reais nem sempre gera bons resultados…afinal eles são imprevisíveis! Imagine, por exemplo, se o Todo Poderoso Shao Khan resolvesse “sair um pouco do script”…o que será que aconteceria?!?!?

Quando criança, você certamente já se deparou com aquele jogo chato de passar, naum é mesmo?! Por acaso alguém se lembra, da época do Nintendinho, em que  Mário tinha que salvar a Princesa do Donkey Kong, que por sua vez tacava barris e naum o deixava subir as escadas? Que tal resolvermos esse problema de modo rápido?! Quer saber como?! Fácil…experimente só trocar o Mário pelo Scorpion…=P

Terror Dactel к этому же столу приготовил медленный раскачанный электро-гитарами трек. SINGER Silvar is more street rapper than pop princess . . . but Cheryl Cole will really get under his skin if he loses a bet.

Stephen Elms – better known as Silvar – entered a £50 wager and the odds of him losing seemed like a long shot.

Yet his group on the social networking site Facebook – named “10,000 members and I will get Cheryl Cole tattooed on me” – has attracted much attention.

With just days left before the bet expires, more than 3,500 Facebookers have logged on and joined the group.

And now Stephen is worried he might have to fulfil his promise . . . having a 6in portrait of Geordie icon Cheryl emblazoned across his left forearm.

Last night 22-year-old Silvar, from Byker, Newcastle, said: “It could be worse, I could have promised to get an image of Simon Cowell done instead.

“It was a bet with me and another rapper called Okan who is originally from Azerbaijan. We said whoever got 10,000 members in their Facebook group first would hand over £50.

“He did something rubbish and hasn’t really got any members in his group.

“But mine has attracted quite a lot of attention and it’s looking like I’m going to win the bet, which unfortunately means I’m going to have to get the tattoo of Cheryl Cole.”

Silvar, who is signed to Newcastle-based record label RazeOne, is no stranger to tattoos. He already has his name etched into his skin and an image of a microphone and cable branded across his arms.

But his ink ensemble could soon be accompanied by a head-to-toe image of Newcastle-born X-Factor star Cheryl.

He said: “It wouldn’t be ideal. It’s not something that I grew up wanting, but it might be quite funny and people might see me in the street and say, “Hey, that’s the guy with Cheryl Cole tattooed on him”.

“I don’t really mind though, it will all be cool.”

London-born Silva came to Tyneside when he was just 17 to pursue a career as a Rugby League player with Gateshead Thunder.

But now, five years later, the budding fly-half is touring the North East and showcasing his rapping skills.

Last week he teamed up with MOBO and Brit Award-nominated rapper Kano to perform inside Newcastle’s Tup Tup Palace.

As for Cheryl, she looks like she will achieve lasting fame without having to be inked on to anyone’s body. As well as her membership of Girls Aloud and her role as an X Factor judge, she has also built a burgeoning solo singing career that saw her reach number one in the singles chart last week.

Johan Hugo of Radioclit and The Very Best produced the above track with terry lynn. there’s a whole free EP floating somewhere on the net if you’re interested. there are a few goodies on there, but the single is the best (mp3 below). its a good party jam and the electro-reggae dancehall fusion is pretty fresh even if the whole MIA wannabe thing isn’t. my other favorite track here would be the Very Best track with Kano, Julia. at first the chorus sounds too sunny for the dirty synth bass and atonal blips and scrapes but it grows on you and ultimately makes the song a keeper. the british rap of Kano is obviously lacking at points, but it helps the sound, and you just gotta love his promise to “never Chris Brown” his girl: a true gentleman.

Perhaps in a reference to bloggers like us talking about the superiority of vintage Kano over contemporary Kano, Kano drops a message about our propensity to say “he used to be the shit.” Message received and currently being processed. I do admire the line Kano drops about people pestering him about older material:
