Eyebrows have been raised as rapper Kanye West appears to have leaked the titled of his sixth studio album that is due for release on June 18. The artist posted (via Kim Kardashian’s Instagram feed) an image of a demo disk with the word ‘Yeezus’ written on a post-it, sparking speculation this will be the name of his latest record. A combination of ‘Yeezy’ – a nickname for the ‘Love Lockdown’ rapper – and ‘Jesus’, it would seem the musician’s ego is still running away with him as he views himself as something of a musical Messiah. Combine this with the fact there is a track on the upcoming release titled ‘I Am God’ and the world should probably brace itself for a whole new string of self-proclaimed rants. But what ridiculous things has the rapper already contributed to the universe?

10 – Sore loser

During the 2004 American Music Awards and at an early point in his career, the ‘808s & Heartbreaks’ star found it difficult to believe that he hadn’t been recognised as the Best New Artist and gave a sour response when he lost out to country singer Gretchen Wilson. ‘I felt like I was definitely robbed… I was the best new artist this year,’ he told People magazine after the event.

9 – Ego out of check

The rapper has rubbed people up the wrong way for a multitude of reasons – and bigging up himself is certainly not a good way to try to win over new fans. The world convulsed in 2008 when he appointed himself ‘the voice’ of his generation. ‘I realise that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation of this decade, I will be the loudest voice,’ he proclaimed – without a hint of irony.

8 – No need to apologise

Kanye seized a moment to blast then-president George Bush for his actions over the devastation of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina in 2002. During a live relief broadcast, Kanye rounded on the former President saying ‘George Bush doesn’t care about black people,’ highlighting the fact there was a slow response to the natural disaster, with black victims being accused of being looters as they searched for resources to survive on. But the rapper sensationally took his words back in 2010 when he said ‘I would tell George Bush in my moment of frustration, I didn’t have the grounds to call him a racist.’

 7 – Defended Chris Brown

Everyone knows the details of the altercation between Rihanna and Chris Brown that night in 2009 as they headed to the annual Grammy Awards. The world was horrified by images of bruised Riri. But Kanye was quick to offer Chris some support during a taping of a VH1 Storytellers special asking, ‘Can’t we give Chris a break?… I know I make mistakes in life.’ But the controversy didn’t end there as he seemed to go on to defend O.J Simpson. ‘O.J. Simpson, amazing. Is he not? What he did, when he did, what he did. Was he not amazing, though?’ he asked to baffled onlookers. The statements were, unsurprisingly, not aired on the TV special.

6 – It’s a fix!

Taking a pop at music stars during an Awards show is a bit of a pass time for the ‘Stronger’ singer. In 2008 he turned on Britney Spears and Jared Leto when they scooped gongs at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool and seemed to suggest the awards were fixed. ‘Britney Spears over Rihanna? Are you serious?’  he ranted after the show, adding: ‘I mean f****** Jared Leto? He’s my boy but he shouldn’t have won over some of  those other artists.’ The rapper picked up the Ultimate Urban Award at the same event, but didn’t seem to complain when he was handed that honour.

5 – Fishsticks

The rapper demonstrated a severe lack of humour when Southpark lampooned him in an episode titled ‘Fishsticks’. His character on the show failed to understand a cheap joke that took America by storm, but he couldn’t admit to not getting the joke seemingly due to his own self-appointed ‘genius’ status. Spectacularly the real life Kanye failed to see the funny side, releasing a statement on his blog that the episode ‘hurt my feelings.’ Baffled by his response, show creator Trey Parker said ‘It was like, dude, we just said you were a gay fish. What are you talking about? It was so dumb.’ Quite.

4 – Friend!

British teen Steven Holmes didn’t know what hit him in 2010 when West chose him as the first person he would follow on Twitter. Back when the rapper only had 500,000 followers (he is now just shy of 10 million) he singled out the teenager from the Midlands to be ‘the chosen one’ as his first followee. ‘You are the chosen one dun dun dun dun’ the Gold Digger singer said, leaving Holmes as surprised as the rest of the world to be followed by the music mega star and unprepared for the barrage of interest that followed. However, Kanye chose wrongly as Steven later confessed ‘The funny thing is I like his music but I’m not his biggest fan.’

3 – Swiftly speaking

Jaws dropped at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when the misguided rap star invaded the stage while Taylor Swift accepted her award for Best Female Video for ‘You Belong With Me’. Grabbing the microphone from the country star he went on to proclaim that Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’ was more deserving of the accolade – cutting Swift off mid-acceptance speech. Beyonce looked mortified, the crowds booed, everyone from 50 Cent to Adam Lambert blasted the rapper for his ignorance and President Barack Obama branded him ‘a jackass’.

2 – Still apologising

After a severe backlash from his Swift acceptance speech diss, Kanye did the right thing and apologised to the cute blonde pop star. But then… he wouldn’t stop apologising. Even a year later he was still banging on about the incident that everyone would rather just forget as he tried to grovel to the ‘Love Story’ singer. ‘When I woke up from the crazy nightmare I looked in the mirror and said GROW UP KANYE,’ he said during a Twitter rant, speaking about himself in the third person. He went on to compare himself to the misunderstood witch in hit musical Wicked, to saying he would ‘never ever again in a million years do that.’ Meanwhile everyone else in the world began to wish he would just shut up.

1 – God complex

While the track ‘I Am God’ on his upcoming album wasn’t suggestion enough that the rapper has a delusional vision of himself, he’s happily put us in our place in the past. ‘God chose me,’ he said in 2009 during one of his most cringe-worthy statements to date. ‘He made a path for me. I am God’s vessel. But my greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live.’ Oh ‘Nye. Did the Lord not tell you how to use Sky +? We’re sure you could figure out how to record one of your television performances to watch back at your own convenience.

June 18th is the release date for Kanye’s sixth studio album, Yeezus. You can preorder it on his website.

Following Kanye’s since-deleted “June 18″ tweet (and a slew of non-confirmation confirmations), Kim Kardashian appeared to confirm the release date and title with an Instagram photo showing the album’s packaging yesterday.

Leading up to his SNL performances, West appeared apathetic. In episode promos, he seemed dead-eyed and uninterested alongside host Ben Affleck, having already made his thoughts about SNL fairly clear at a surprise show earlier this week, announcing that he wouldn’t be doing any skits on the show (“Hell nah, I ain’t doin no motherf***ing SNL skits. This is my godd*** life. This ain’t no motherf***ing joke).

“Ladies and gentlemen, here he is, the man you came to see: Kanye West,” Ben Affleck, host of the episode, announced before Kanye launched into “Black Skinhead” (performance below). The primal screams Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter mentioned being a thing on West’s new album? He’s right, and they can be found on this atmospheric new song, which sounds to sample Marilyn Manson’s “Beautiful People.” “Pardon me getting my scream on,” he shouted over intense strings, driving drums and images of barking dogs. “Black Skinhead” started and ended with a stamp carrying the words “NOT FOR SALE” projected onto the back wall of the SNL stage. Following the performance, West posted a photo of the full lyrics to “Black Skinhead” on his Twitter.

Both performances had sparse lighting, the silhouettes of West’s backing musicians only vaguely present against the backdrop of a continuously-changing video screen. The trend continued on “New Slaves,” which found West sounding even angrier than he does in the recorded version premiered Friday. The song, which simultaneously references racism and consumerism, moved on with growing intensity, Kanye practically shouting the lines by the end. Watch below.

West also snuck a little something by the NBC censors, with the n-word slipping through in both songs during the east coast airing of SNL. (Both performances aired after midnight, so it’s less likely there will be fines.)

The rapper last performed on the show in October 2010, showing off “Power” and “Runaway” from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. With “Power”‘s chant of “F*** SNL and the whole cast,” one would think West wouldn’t be invited back to the comedy show all too often, and yet here he was again. “Power” and “Runaway” were two of the most talked-about musical numbers on the show in recent memory, and “Black Skinhead” and “New Slaves” may just have eclipsed them.

If there was any doubt about West’s newest album, which is widely rumored to drop June 18, being downright controversial and certainly full of intrigue, his performances on SNL nixed those notions. This ain’t your happy-go-lucky Kanye West. If anything, he’s got more to say than ever before.

A day after premiering “New Slaves” in cities across the world, Kanye West closed out the season of “Saturday Night Live” with a bang, performing new material from his upcoming album Yeezus, due June 18.

For his first performance of the evening, the G.O.O.D. Music chief channeled his inner rock star in a leather studded jacket while debuting a socially-charged song called “Black Skinhead” (view the lyrics here and here).

He returned later in the show, wearing a black scoop-neck shirt, to perform “New Slaves,” which he debuted via projection screens on buildings across the globe. The studio version of the song features Frank Ocean.

And here’s New Slaves which he also performed. Overall the performance is pretty freaky, from what he’s wearing to the visuals behind him.

I really don’t know what to make of it, but it means that we get a new Kanye Album eventually which of course is dope.

Kanye West has conquered the music industry with five critically and popularly successful albums, now he’s apparently moving on to the experimental phase of his career. But that doesn’t mean he still can’t drop a few bars about Kim Kardashian from time to time!

Kanye West Performs New Songs On ‘SNL’

The 35-year-old rapper took the Saturday Night Live stage with attitude, busting out two aggressive new songs — “Black Skinhead” and “New Slaves” — in front of a bright screen that was flashing stark vintage graphics. The projector created a strobe light effect, fiercely switching between ghoulish faces and graphics that said things like “Not For Sale.”

It was a brand new look — the Andy Warhol version of Kanye West.

Behind all the ambience though was the music. As his band churned out dark vibes music, Kanye spit racially charged verses, and even touched on his interracial relationship with Kim. “They see a black man with a white woman/At the top floor they gone come to kill King Kong,” Kanye rapped on “Black Skinhead.”

We love Yeezy’s charged energy on stage, but we hope he puts on a nicer face for his newborn baby!

Kanye West’s New Album Title: ‘Yeezus’

Kanye had a quite a weekend. Besides starring on SNL, the title of his album was also released. Kanye will continue to take on the form of a deity with the album title, Yeezus – yes, a clever combination of Yeezy and Jesus.

The title was first reported by the hip-hop site, Rap-Up, but Kim Kardashian herself confirmed it by posting a picture of the album cover on her Instagram.

“#Yeezus #RedYeezy’s #SNL #Tonight #NewSlaves #YeezySeason #Donda #June18,” Kim tweeted along with the photo. What a supportive girlfriend!

Kanye’s “New Slaves” video had an unusual premiere by being broadcast on 66 buildings. MTV reports on May 18 that Kanye West’s new music video was projected on the exterior walls of the buildings. West announced the idea to his Twitter followers, and his website provided a list of cities around the world that would get the video.

“New Slaves” will be part of an upcoming album from Kanye, so he is trying to get publicity by premiering it in an unusual way. West may be trying to separate his brand fromKim Kardashian. The music video was shown in Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, Sydney, Los Angeles, Miami, Toronto, Berlin, London and Paris. Featuring an enormous image of Kanye’s head, the projections appeared in multiple locations in some cities.

Kanye West deleted his previous tweets that seemed to indicate his new album would be released on June 18. He left one post on his account that announced the video premiere but did not mention the album release date. It will be the sixth album from the rapper, and the title has not been revealed.

An intense performance of his new Yeezus tracks “Black Skinhead” and “New Slaves” (posted below) reminded us why we like angry Kanye better than Kardashian Kanye. Hader’s Weekend Update sketch, posted after the jump, also ruled the evening. Host Ben Affleck was there? There was no pomp for the five-timer, just Bobby Moynihan in a ratty tee with the number five on it. Affleck’s wife, Jennifer Garner, stopped by for a few jokes during the opening monologue.
