I passed my kiiro-obi grading some two weeks ago, and just yesterday was presented with my prize! With the new rank comes a size-up of my belt length, and the trailing tails were difficult to get used to. But oh man, is it ever a power trip! I’m also very thankful for the mellow colour, as the majority of yellow-belts in my dojo have stop-traffic-neon-yellow.

My study of jujitsu has helped me greatly in the writing of TETHERED ROMANCE, and you wouldn’t believe how – in a novel that’s centered around a male geisha in Tokugawa era Japan. I’ve had to choreograph many a fight scene for my samurai in training Seishin, and knowing I can act it out first by doing one of my jujitsu katas has been quite the experience. I’ve often heard it said, “Writers are just shy actors”, and it’s very true considering that I act out most of what I write while no one is looking.

Happy Canada day to my fellow Canadians! Three days late but better late than not at all. I was celebrating in the rain with some friends, and in the evening caught a show at the Planetarium. What an experience! I was really amazed by the show, it was so fascinating. Space, stars. planets – how mind boggling. It presented me with an excellent foundation of research for my up-and-coming novel A KILL FEE.

A arte
