We met at The Dolphin Hotel, the location for Karren and Steve’s Big Day next March.  I fell in love with the recent refurbishment, modern and stylish but respectful to the years of history that have gone before.  I am led to believe that the original Inn stood on the same site way back in 1550 – which is pretty impressive I reckon!!  I noted with happiness the high ceilings, spiral staircase and beautiful accessorising.  With a little spring in my step, we headed out into the sunshine for their pre-wedding shoot.

The boys fell in step and began chatting about, well, whatever it is that boys talk about and Karren and I did the same, lagging behind as we talked colour themes and timings for the day.  I was instantly struck by Karren’s warmth, she is one of those people that you instantly feel like you’ve known forever.  If we’d have spent any longer together, I highly suspect that I would have found myself suggesting a girly night of face packs, pedicures and chick flicks!

Having strolled into the area of French Street, we found ourselves at Tudor Hall (another gorgeous wedding venue in Southampton) and started snapping away.  I’m always conscious that the initial part of a pre-wedding shoot must be pretty daunting so we kept it as informal as possible, we chatted, walked and laughed and these two were naturals.  Steve’s previous foray into modelling(!) clearly had a positive effect, I particularly love the “peering through the undergrowth” shot.

I watched them as we photographed, quietly noting the tender moments of affection and revelling in how freely they laugh together.  Even in the moments of mickey-taking, their eyes shone as they dug each other in the ribs threatening to get the other back.  This is, without a doubt, the number one perk of my job.  These two are clearly the best of friends as well as soul mates and are going to make the perfect married couple.  I am SO excited about their special day next year!
