<title><![CDATA[Mindful Monday: Charter for Compassion (Karuna)]]></title>

<p>I&#8217;ve had the pleasure and privilege of working on a document/concept exploring a set of universal rights for horses for an international organization for horses&#8217; welfare. This is in its nascent stages and I&#8217;m constantly thinking, &#8220;how should this be communicated? How can I write this so that it is compelling, emotionally accessible and easy to implement worldwide?&#8221;</p>
<p>Wonder and it shall be delivered!</p>
<p>Into my inbox last week popped a flawless example of how to enumerate the absolute compassionate approach to other beings. Compassion (<em>karuna</em> in Sanskrit and Pali) is the foundation of mindful living and Buddhist practice. How timely then that this wonderful link should arrive just as I approach this task with new vigor.</p>

<blockquote><p>The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect. It is also necessary in both public and private life to refrain consistently and empathically from inflicting pain. To act or speak violently out of spite, chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others &#8211; even our enemies &#8211; is a denial of our common humanity. We acknowledge that we have failed to live compassionately and that some have even increased the sum of human misery in the name of religion.<br />
We therefore call upon all men and women ~ to restore compassion to the centre of morality and religion ~ to return to the ancient principle that any interpretation of scripture that breeds violence, hatred or disdain is illegitimate ~ to ensure that youth are given accurate and respectful information about other traditions, religions and cultures ~ to encourage a positive appreciation of cultural and religious diversity ~ to cultivate an informed empathy with the suffering of all human beings, even those regarded as enemies.<br />
We urgently need to make compassion a clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world. Rooted in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can break down political, dogmatic, ideological and religious boundaries. Born of our deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to a fulfilled humanity.<br />
It is the path to enlightenment, and indispensible to the creation of a just economy and a peaceful global community.</p></blockquote>

E&#8217; la karuna ad ispirare un bell&#8217;evento  che si terrà <strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">dal 13 al 21 ottobre al Centro Botanico di Milano</span></strong> (via Cesare Correnti n° 10, orario 10-19,45,  ingresso libero). <span style="color:#ff0000;"><span style="color:#000000;">Si intitola</span><strong> Un mandala di sabbia per il Ladakh</strong></span> ed è organizzato dall&#8217;Associazione <strong><a href="http://www.aevo.org/">Ascolta e Vivi Onlus</a> </strong>per uno scopo benefico: <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>aiutare i bambini sordi del Ladakh</strong></span>, una regione settentrionale dell&#8217;India in grande maggioranza buddhista.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Monaci buddhisti del Monastero di Gaden Jangtse daranno vita alla cerimonia costruendo il Mandala del Buddha della Compassione. Una rappresentazione che verrà realizzata con sabbie colorate e poi distrutta al termine della cerimonia. Questo evento sarà accompagnato da un&#8217;<strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">esposizione di tangka</span></strong> (dipinti su tessuto, sete o carta, tipici della tradizione tibeto-himalayana),  da una <strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">mostra fotografica</span></strong> curata dall’associazione Ascolta e Vivi e dall’<strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">intervento di alcuni esperti di cultura buddhista</span></strong>.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:#ff0000;">Il Mandala </span>è una complessa struttura geometrica che rappresenta simbolicamente l’ambiente e gli esseri che lo abitano; secondo la tradizione tibetana la costruzione del Mandala diffonde energia di benessere e salute nell’ambiente circostante. Durante la cerimonia di creazione del Mandala, i monaci ne disegnano i contorni su un piano di legno e poi, con un lavoro di estrema concentrazione, lo ricoprono in ogni sua parte con sabbia finissima colorata, delineandone i minimi particolari. I colori usati, bianco, giallo, rosso, verde e blu rappresentano rispettivamente acqua, terra, fuoco, aria e spazio.<br />
Al termine della costruzione il Mandala viene tradizionalmente dissolto e le sabbie versate in un fiume, a simboleggiare la natura impermanente di tutte le cose e il distacco da esse (concetti centrali nel buddhismo).</p>

Today is an ultra-auspicious day for all Caitanya Vaisnavas. It is the day celebrated as the birthday of Brindavaneshvari Sri Radhey and also Sri Bisakha Sakhi. I wasn&#8217;t sure what I should write. This day is overwhelmingly important and nothing will seem adequate as a proper glorification of our life and soul, our Svamini, Sri Radharani. A verse from <em>Radha Rasa Sudhanidhi</em> by Sri Prabodhananda Saraswatipada caught my attention and I will post that along with commentary from Madhusudan Das, Prabhupad Ananda Gopal Goswami, and Sri Ananta Das Pandit the Mahant of Sri Radhakund and attempt to glorify Her is this way. Surely by the grace of guru and Nitai we will one day attain the position of Her nitya-dasi serving Her and Shyam in the kunjas of Braja.</p>

<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">(1)Sri Radha is vaidagdhya sindhuH, an ocean of cleverness. This means rasa pANDitya, She is learned in the science of rasa. She even teaches rasika zekhara, the king of reliShers, Sri Krishna expertise in erotic rasa. Sri Krishna Himself admits in Caitanya Caritamrta: rAdhikAra prema &#8211; guru; Ami &#8211; ziSya naTa; sadA AmA nAna nRtye nAcAye udbhaTa “Radhika’s love is the teacher and I am the dancing pupil. She always causes Me to dance different wonderful dances!” She is the teacher of arts.</div>

<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">Kundalata told Gargi: &#8220;O Devi! What more can I say about the artful expertise of Sri Radhika? She is the teacher by example of making pictures of mineral pigments (Sri Visvanath Cakravartipada writes in his Ananda candrikA commentary on this verse: AcArya na tu kadAcid api kasyacic chiSya&#8230;.evaM sarvatra jJeyam. &#8220;The word acarya here means that She did not learn this science from anyone, it was spontaneously manifest to Her.&#8221;) She is expert is cooking, She can even stifle Krishna in verbal battle. She is very learned in stringing flower garlands, She is expert in teaching the Suka and Sari parrots how to recite beautiful verses. She can defeat even the unconquerable Ajita in a game of dice, and She has a keen intelligence.&#8221; Because of Her cleverness She is compared here with the ocean of Sweet Water (the seventh of the cosmic oceans).</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">(2)Sri Radha is the only ocean of anurAga. anurAga means mahabhAva. anurAga is ever-fresh and ever-astonishing. Srimati thinks Krishna’s sweetness is ever fresh and She always has more taste for His sweetness, so She always reliShes it. With the statement that Radharani is the only ocean of anurAga rasa is meant that when anurAga increases, it becomes mahabhAva and that when, mahabhAva increases it is called mAdana mahabhAva. Sri Radharani is the only one who has this mAdana mahabhAva and She is the fountainhead of all mahabhAva, just as the ocean is the fountainhead of all the rivers and ponds. The other gopis are Her phalanx that help Her to complete Krsna&#8217;s relishing of prema rasa. Just as milk becomes thick kSIra when it is boiled down, anuraga turns into mahabhAva when it becomes ‘thick’ (intensified). Therefore the anurAga-ocean is compared to the ocean of milk (the sixth of the cosmic oceans).</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">(3)Sri Radha is the ocean of vAtsalya. vAtsalya means love for the poor and the fallen. Just as Sri Radha is an inexhaustible storehouse of erotic rasa, She is also a great ocean of vAtsalya-affection. The writers of the rasa zAstra say that the vAtsalya rasa is not compatible with the madhurya rasa, but Radharani makes them compatible in some situations. For instance, She gives the greatest bliss to rasika ziromaNi Sri Krishna and Her girlfriends and maidservants when She gives this ‘motherly’ affection to Krishna while He takes His meal. Sri Radha’s vAtsalya towards Her girlfriends is also most wonderful. She is always controlled by their affection. Sri Rupa Goswamipada gives the following example in his Ujjvala Nilamani (rAdhA prakAraNa 34):</div>

<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">Sri Radha had a quarrel with Sri Krishna, but now She regrets it (kalahAnrarita bhAva). She is once more eager to meet Him, but in order to show that She is under the fll control of her girlfriends, She tells Vrinda: &#8220;O sakhi Vrnde! Tell this prince of Braja that I am controlled by my girlfriends! Why does He waste His words on Me? We are proud girls it is not proper for Him to stay in our abodes! Tell Him that He better fearfull flee! Doesn&#8217;t He know the prowess of my friend Lalita?&#8221; With these words sakhI vatsalA Sri Radha pleases Her girlfriends and gives a hidden instruction to Shyamasundar to come and meet Her at the same time. Sri Radha&#8217;s vAtsalya towards Her maidservants is incomparable! The maidservants are always showered by the waves from the ocean of Her motherly affection. She always keeps them by Her side, calling them, &#8220;My Rupa Manjari, My Rati Manjari, with strong feelings of mineness. Because there is a lot of the essential part of affection in the vAtsalya-ocean, just as yoghurt is the essence of milk, this ocean can be compared the ocean of yoghurt (the fifth of the cosmic oceans).</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">(4)Sri Radha is the ocean of deep compassion, always showering Her devotees with the nectar stream of Her mercy. Those who have been touched by the nectar of that compassion, can testify. Sri Raghunath Das Gosvami says: karuNA vidravad dehA – “Her body melts with compassion”. Normally, a person’s heart melts with compassion, but only in Radharani’s case Her whole body melts with compassion. She always bathes in streams of ambrosial compassion, and because Krishna accepted Her mood when He became Gaura Mahaprabhu, Mahaprabhu is so merciful! Mahaprabhu does not consider who is qualified or unqualified, who is from which caste or from which asrama. He gives prema without making such distinctions! That is ‘a body melting with compassion’! It is Radha’s storehouse of compassion, not Krishna’s! In Braja-lila the storehouse of Radha’s mercy remained hidden and closed, but when Mahaprabhu accepted the mood and complexion of Sri Radha, it became manifest to the world! Mahaprabhu showed the people of the world how the body can melt with compassion, because He assumed Sn Radha’s merciful mood. Because Radhika’s body melts with compassion, it can be compared to the ocean of clarified butter (the fourth of the cosmic oceans).</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">(5)Sri Radha is the ocean of lavaNnya. Sri Rupa Gosvami defines lAvaNya as follows in his Ujjvala Nilamani:</div>

<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">pratibhAti yad aGgeSu lAvaNyam tad ihocyate &#124;&#124;</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">“The luster that gushes out of each bodily limb like the luster shining out from inside pearls, is called lAvaNya.” Srimati is the ocean of lAvaNya, or elegance. The fishlike eyes of Sri Krishna, who is called lAvaNya sAra (the essence of lAvaNya, or elegance) in Srimad Bhagavat (10.44.14), never get tired of swimming in the ocean of Sri Radha’s lAvaNya. Indeed, His desire to swim in that ocean simply increases! Sripada Bilvamangala Thakura said in Krishna Karnamrtam (3): lAvAnyAmRta vIci lolita dRSaM – “Krishna’s eyes billow on the waves of nectarean lAvaNya.” Sri Krishna Das Kaviraja writes in his sAraGga RaGgadA commentary on this verse: zrI rAdhAyA evA lAvanyAmRta vIcibhir lolite satRSNIkRte dRzau yasya tam “Sri Krishna’s eyes have become very thirsty after the nectar waves of Sri Radha’s lAvaNya.” Because Krishna is intoxicated by seeing Radha’s lAvaNya and Her maidservants and girlfriends are intoxicated by seeing Krishna looking at Radhika like this. The practicing devotees should also forget everything related to this world or the next world and become intoxicated by worshiping the lotus feet of that Sri Radha! The ocean of lAvaNya is compared to the ocean of wine (the third of the cosmic oceans).</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">(6)Sri Radha is the ocean of amRta cchabi rUpa. She is the very form of glowing nectar and Her form is like a vast ocean. She is mahAbhAva personified and mahabhAva is compared to nectar. It is the deepest possible love for Krishna, and Radha’s form reveals this beauty and tastefulness to the utmost, therefore She is the amRtacchabi rUpa sindhu. She keeps Syamasundara immersed in the waves of the ocean of Her pastimes when She meets Him. When the waves of mAdana rasa swell in the ocean of Sri Radha’s pastimes even Sri Krishna, the transcendental youthful Cupid of Brindavan does not dare to place His boat-like heart on its surface, just as a boatman fearfully keeps his boat on the bank of the Ganga when her huge waves meet the ocean. The very sight of this ocean destroys all sins, but a person who drinks it’s water will die. Similarly, when one faithfully chants and hears about the pastimes of Radha and Madhava one will become free from all sins and from the heart’s disease of lust, but when one tries to imitate these pastimes one will perish. This ocean of play is compared to the ocean of salt water (the first of the cosmic oceans).</div>

<p style="text-align:left;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Sri Radha &#8212; The Seven Cosmic Oceans Personified</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:left;">(1) Sri Radha is vaidagdhya sindhuH, an ocean of cleverness. This means rasa pANDitya, She is learned in the science of rasa. She even teaches rasika zekhara, the king of relishers, Sri Krishna expertise in erotic rasa. Sri Krishna Himself admits in Caitanya Caritamrta: rAdhikAra prema &#8211; guru; Ami &#8211; ziSya naTa; sadA AmA nAna nRtye nAcAye udbhaTa “Radhika’s love is the teacher and I am the dancing pupil. She always causes Me to dance different wonderful dances!” She is the teacher of arts.  Sri Rupa Goswamipada writes in Ujjvala Nilamani (rAdhA prakaraNa 21):</p>

<span style="font-style:normal;"><em>vAg yuddhe mugdhayanti gurum api ca girAM paNDitA malya gumphe &#124;<br />

<p style="text-align:left;"><em><span style="font-style:normal;"> Kundalata told Gargi: &#8220;O Devi! What more can I say about the artful expertise of Sri Radhika? She is the teacher by example of making pictures of mineral pigments (Sri Visvanath Cakravartipada writes in his Ananda candrikA commentary on this verse: AcArya na tu kadAcid api kasyacic chiSya&#8230;.evaM sarvatra jJeyam. &#8220;The word acarya here means that She did not learn this science from anyone, it was spontaneously manifest to Her.&#8221;) She is expert is cooking, She can even stifle Krishna in verbal battle. She is very learned in stringing flower garlands, She is expert in teaching the Suka and Sari parrots how to recite beautiful verses. She can defeat even the unconquerable Ajita in a game of dice, and She has a keen intelligence.&#8221; Because of Her cleverness She is compared here with the ocean of Sweet Water (the seventh of the cosmic oceans). </span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:left;"><em><span style="font-style:normal;">(2) Sri Radha is the only ocean of anurAga. anurAga means mahabhAva. anurAga is ever-fresh and ever-astonishing. Srimati thinks Krishna’s sweetness is ever fresh and She always has more taste for His sweetness, so She always relishes it. With the statement that Radharani is the only ocean of anurAga rasa is meant that when anurAga increases, it becomes mahabhAva and that when, mahabhAva increases it is called mAdana mahAbhAva. Sri Radharani is the only one who has this mAdana mahAbhAva and She is the fountainhead of all mahAbhAva, just as the ocean is the fountainhead of all the rivers and ponds. The other gopis are Her phalanx that help Her to complete Krsna&#8217;s relishing of prema rasa. Just as milk becomes thick kSIra when it is boiled down, anuraga turns into mahAbhAva when it becomes ‘thick’ (intensified). Therefore the anurAga-ocean is compared to the ocean of milk (the sixth of the cosmic oceans). </span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:left;"><em><span style="font-style:normal;">(3) Sri Radha is the ocean of vAtsalya. vAtsalya means love for the poor and the fallen. Just as Sri Radha is an inexhaustible storehouse of erotic rasa, She is also a great ocean of vAtsalya-affection. The writers of the rasa zAstra say that the vAtsalya rasa is not compatible with the madhurya rasa, but Radharani makes them compatible in some situations. For instance, She gives the greatest bliss to rasika ziromaNi Sri Krishna and Her girlfriends and maidservants when She gives this ‘motherly’ affection to Krishna while He takes His meal. Sri Radha’s vAtsalya towards Her girlfriends is also most wonderful. She is always controlled by their affection. Sri Rupa Goswamipada gives the following example in his Ujjvala Nilamani (rAdhA prakAraNa 34): </span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:left;"><em><span style="font-style:normal;"> <em>upadiza sakhi vRnde vallabendrasya sUnuM kim ayam iha sakhInAM mAm adhInAM dunoti<br />
apasaratu sazaGkaM mandirAn mAninInAM kalayati lalitAyAH kiM na zauTIrya dhATIm</em> </span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:left;"><em><span style="font-style:normal;"> Sri Radha had a quarrel with Sri Krishna, but now She regrets it (kalahAntarita bhAva). She is once more eager to meet Him, but in order to show that She is under the full control of her girlfriends, She tells Vrinda: &#8220;O sakhi Vrnde! Tell this prince of Braja that I am controlled by my girlfriends! Why does He waste His words on Me? We are proud girls it is not proper for Him to stay in our abodes! Tell Him that He better fearfully flee! Doesn&#8217;t He know the prowess of my friend Lalita?&#8221; With these words sakhI vatsalA Sri Radha pleases Her girlfriends and gives a hidden instruction to Shyamasundar to come and meet Her at the same time. Sri Radha&#8217;s vAtsalya towards Her maidservants is incomparable! The maidservants are always showered by the waves from the ocean of Her motherly affection. She always keeps them by Her side, calling them, &#8220;My Rupa Manjari, My Rati Manjari, with strong feelings of mineness. Because there is a lot of the essential part of affection in the vAtsalya-ocean, just as yoghurt is the essence of milk, this ocean can be compared the ocean of yoghurt (the fifth of the cosmic oceans). </span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:left;"><em><span style="font-style:normal;">(4) Sri Radha is the ocean of deep compassion, always showering Her devotees with the nectar stream of Her mercy. Those who have been touched by the nectar of that compassion, can testify. Sri Raghunath Das Gosvami says: karuNA vidravad dehA – “Her body melts with compassion”. Normally, a person’s heart melts with compassion, but only in Radharani’s case Her whole body melts with compassion. She always bathes in streams of ambrosial compassion, and because Krishna accepted Her mood when He became Gaura Mahaprabhu, Mahaprabhu is so merciful! Mahaprabhu does not consider who is qualified or unqualified, who is from which caste or from which asrama. He gives prema without making such distinctions! That is ‘a body melting with compassion! It is Radha’s storehouse of compassion, not Krishna’s! In Braja-lila the storehouse of Radha’s mercy remained hidden and closed, but when Mahaprabhu accepted the mood and complexion of Sri Radha, it became manifest to the world! Mahaprabhu showed the people of the world how the body can melt with compassion, because He assumed Sn Radha’s merciful mood. Because Radhika’s body melts with compassion, it can be compared to the ocean of clarified butter (the fourth of the cosmic oceans). </span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:left;"><em><span style="font-style:normal;">(5) Sri Radha is the ocean of lAvaNya. Sri Rupa Gosvami defines lAvaNya as follows in his Ujjvala Nilamani:</span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:left;"><em><span style="font-style:normal;"> <em>muktAphaleSu chAyAyAs taralatvam ivAntarA &#124;<br />
pratibhAti yad aGgeSu lAvaNyam tad ihocyate &#124;&#124;</em></span></em></p>

<p><em><span style="font-style:normal;">“The luster that gushes out of each bodily limb like the luster shining out from inside pearls, is called lAvaNya.” Srimati is the ocean of lAvaNya, or elegance. The fishlike eyes of Sri Krishna, who is called lAvaNya sAra (the essence of lAvaNya, or elegance) in Srimad Bhagavat (10.44.14), never gets tired of swimming in the ocean of Sri Radha’s lAvaNya. Indeed, His desire to swim in that ocean simply increases! Sripada Bilvamangala Thakura said in Krishna Karnamrtam (3):  lAvAnyAmRta vIci lolita dRSaM – “Krishna’s eyes billow on the waves of nectarean lAvaNya.” Sri Krishna Das Kaviraja writes in his sAraGga RaGgadA commentary on this verse: zrI rAdhAyA evA lAvanyAmRta vIcibhir lolite satRSNIkRte dRzau yasya tam “Sri Krishna’s eyes have become very thirsty after the nectar waves of Sri Radha’s lAvaNya.” Because Krishna is intoxicated by seeing Radha’s lAvaNya and Her maidservants and girlfriends are intoxicated by seeing Krishna looking at Radhika like this. The practicing devotees should also forget everything related to this world or the next world and become intoxicated by worshiping the lotus feet of that Sri Radha! The ocean of lAvaNya is compared to the ocean of wine (the third of the cosmic oceans). </span></em></p>
<p><em><span style="font-style:normal;">(6) Sri Radha is the ocean of amRta cchabi rUpa. She is the very form of glowing nectar and Her form is like a vast ocean. She is mahAbhAva personified and mahAbhAva is compared to nectar. It is the deepest possible love for Krishna, and Radha’s form reveals this beauty and tastefulness to the utmost, therefore She is the amRtacchabi rUpa sindhu. Although Sri Krishna inundates the world with a mere drop of His beauty, even He drowns in the nectar ocean of Radha’s form! Krishna says in the Caitanya Caritamrta 1.4.242-243:<br />

I came across this piece, &#8220;Hand Holding Pebble&#8221; while doing some research for an article. The hand and fountain are the creation of Christian Sandell. The location is Karuna, a SIM &#8220;devoted to HIV/AIDS education, research, and to the collection of stories by those dealing with HIV/AIDS&#8221;. The SIM, is managed by Jenaia Morane who has created a wonderful environment with her build. Information on HIV/AIDS is available and there are several excellent art and photography exhibits with contributions from Sunn Thunders and Special Jewell.<br />

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><span style="font-size:x-small;">Goddess Tara, a female Buddha and meditational deity, is arguably the most popular goddess in the Buddhist pantheon. She is considered to be the goddess of universal compassion who represents virtuous and enlightened activity.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">The word Tara itself is derived from the root &#8216;tri&#8217; (to cross), hence the implied meaning:&#8217; the one who enables living beings to cross the Ocean of Existence and Suffering&#8217;. Her compassion for living beings, her desire to save them from suffering, is said to be even stronger than a mother&#8217;s love for her children.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">The story of Tara&#8217;s origin, according to the Tara Tantra, recounts that aeons ago she was born as a king&#8217;s daughter. A spiritual and compassionate princess, she regularly gave offerings and prayers to the ordained monks and nuns. She thus developed great merit, and the monks told her that, because of her spiritual attainments, they would pray that she be reborn as a man and spread Buddhist teachings. She responded that there was no male and no female, that nothing existed in reality, and that she wished to remain in female form to serve other beings until everyone reached enlightenment, hence implying the shortfall in the monk&#8217;s knowledge in presuming only male preachers for the Buddhist religion. Thus Tara might be considered one of the earliest feminists.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">Another legend of Tara is that she was born from the compassionate tears of Avalokiteshvara (The Buddha of compassion):</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;"><em><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica;">&#8220;Homage! Tara, swift, heroic! With a glance like flashing</span></em><br />
<em><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica;">lightning, born from a blooming lotus sprung from the tears on</span></em><br />
<em><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica;">the face of the Lord of the World!&#8221;</span></em></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;"><em>&#8230; Chapter III, Tara Tantra</em></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">The above verse refers to the legend of Tara&#8217;s origin. Avalokiteshvara was looking down from his heaven on the world of suffering beings, and he wept to see that more and more of them were in pain. From the tears streaming down his face two Taras were born, a peaceful white one from the left and a fierce green one from the right. Tara is thus also often referred to as Avalokiteshvara&#8217;s consort.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">In a historical sense, Tara is associated with the two pious and virtuous wives of Tibet&#8217;s first great religious king, Songsten Gambo  (d. 649). White Tara is associated with his wife from imperial China, Wen Cheng, and Green Tara is identified with Bhrkuti, his Nepalese wife.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;"><a style="color:#cc0000;text-decoration:none;" href="http://www.exoticindiaart.com/paintings/Thangka/goddess/"><img src="http://www.exoticindiaart.com/artimages/ze32.jpg" border="0" alt="Tibetan Goddesses" hspace="10" width="288" height="400" align="RIGHT" /></a>To the Buddhists the symbolism of color is of great import. The sadhanas (ancient manuals laying down procedures for worship) are very particular in stipulating the colors of the deities visualized. This color is intended not only to unfold the nature of the deity represented but also to indicate the functions to be performed by that deity. Specifically colors are used in the paintings under a definite mystic scheme, based on the psychic experiences of the sadhaka (worshipper).</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">The most popular of all the known forms of Tara are the widely worshipped Green and White Taras. It is believed that the first artists modeled Green Tara on a young virgin, and the White Tara on a physically mature, voluptuous woman. Thus traditionally whereas the Green Tara is visualized as young girl having a mischievous and playful nature, the White Tara is represented as a mature woman, full-breasted and wise. This tradition survives to the present times.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;">Green Tara</span></h3>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">Green Tara is Tara&#8217;s most dynamic manifestation. Her color symbolizes youthful vigor and activity. The Buddhist Lord of karma (action), Amoghasiddhi, is also associated with the green color, thus signifying that they belong to the same family. This is a further affirmation of the perception that Green Tara is a goddess of action.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">She is often depicted in a posture of ease with right leg extended, signifying her readiness to spring into action. The left leg is folded in the contemplative position on the lotus pedestal, the two together thus symbolizing the integration of wisdom and art.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">Her left hand, in the gesture of granting refuge holds the stem of a blue lotus that floats over her left shoulder as a symbol of purity and power. With her right hand she makes the boon-granting gesture.<br />

<p>Hell is its absence.</p></blockquote>
<p>This is easy to understand on the surface. We don&#8217;t need to die to experience heaven or hell. If we love or feel loved, we experience Heaven. When it is absent, we experience Hell. What is hard to understand is what is meant by &#8220;love&#8221;. It is something easily misunderstood.</p>
<p>Love, or more usually translated as &#8220;loving-kindness&#8221;, means something specific in Buddhism. It is a translation of the Pali word &#8220;metta&#8221; (Sanskrit, maitri). It relates to &#8220;compassion&#8221;. This is a translation of the Sanskrit &#8220;karuna&#8221;.</p>
<p>Compassion (&#8220;karuna&#8221;) means the heartfelt desire for oneself and every other being not to suffer. Suffering here is &#8220;dukkha&#8221; &#8211; a spectrum of negative experiences.</p>
<p>Loving-kindness (&#8220;metta&#8221;) means the heartfelt desire for oneself and every other being to have joy. Joy here is not a fleeting pleasure, but something spiritually profound.</p>
<p>So Heaven is experiencing compassion and loving-kindness.</p>
<p>Hell is their absence.</p>
<p>I can, and should, begin with compassion and loving-kindness towards myself. Not in any selfish way. But it is easy to love myself, as long as I am already emotionally healthy. I can sow the seeds of a habit of giving myself compassion and loving-kindness. When I do this, I discover the secret of Buddhism: Heaven and Hell is within me. I choose happiness or unhappiness. By developing the habit of self-compassion and self-love, I discover this.</p>
<p>Now I can extend the practice to those I love already: My parents, my sisters, my partner and so on. Eventually, as I become more skillful in compassion and loving-kindness I can even extend it to my enemies.</p>

<p><span style="color:#333333;">Yep I went for the Big Telly, <a href="http://www.perfectworldproductions.com.au" target="_blank">Perfect World Productions</a> my company that produce both Tonight Live and <a href="http://www.fabulousfashiontv.com">Fabulous Fashion with Angie Mornington</a>, have a build out there, as you can see from SuperDaves pic. I figured that in the future we will be watching our productions on nothing more than a piece of plasma glass&#8230;no nobs, no arial ect&#8230;.and putting a studio in that! well not possible soooo I went for Space Age Kitch, I imagined I was a home owner in 2050 with a retro bent&#8230;who liked the old TV shows of Lost in Space and My Favorite Martian, and the Jetsons and went for that. Oh and yes I built it myself..so its not really whoa amazing..! but I did what I could with my building skills learned from years of Trial and lots of error&#8230;Keeping the prims down is verrrry tricky specially as I can&#8217;t build sculpties&#8230;(missed that trial and error completely..) I actually found the building very relaxing and therapeutic as I and my entire family have been laid flat with a nasty flu virus for an entire week, and forming a complete thought or sentence has been very difficult, so just building and tweaking has been nice.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#333333;">Inside the Telly is our multipurpose TV studio. Where both Tonight Live and Fabulous Fashion will be filmed for the duration of the SLB6 event. Fabulous Fashion will be there next week, they are taking a break this week.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#333333;">We will have freebies on offer at the studio, and there will be models wandering around from the Fabulous Fashion Show, Angie and I will be there as much as possible with other staff members to help promote our shows in world. </span></p>
<p><span style="color:#333333;">I figure there are still about 80% of the population who probably don&#8217;t know we make Television in SL, and we hope that this will help let them know they can watch their virtual world on TV from the comfort of their SL Homes or live in our Studios.</span></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>The things that i am writing here arent a fancy romantic soiree that could send tear jolts down the eyes or blows to the heart. The words and writings are totally non fabricated and incongruous. However they arent meaningless. Cuz i dont write them for a poetic or prosaic fancy rather to let my fingers type from whatever signals they get from the brain while it reminisces some of the most wonderful moments spent in time.</p>
<p>It was something that was being anticipated for about a month. And it wasnt planned as things are supposed to. The very reason it was to happen made me feel so remarkably lucky and happy. So much so that it gave me kicks days before this was to happen. When i said Ankur about the how i wished if he could come here and meet me and Karuna off came his prompt reply &#8221; I am coming Bhai&#8221;. And Ankur aint known for budging his words.</p>
<p>There are somethings that i could not wait for. And this was one of em. I canyt remember when was i this desperate last. The kicks never settled but finally the day came and with it died all the cornucopia surrounding it. We met yet again. We talked things at length and we were so happy to see each other again. We went to our favourite hangout. We sipped cold coffees and talked past. We played together and wish that we lose to one another. Ankur has always meant much more than i could describe to me.</p>
<p>The highlight of the visit was however yet to come. We were to meet our respective loves for a dinner in Delhi. Rinku joined Ankur and i went to pick up Karuna from her place. Well if the details of how that happened are shared I would probably get a divorce for over exaggeration. I will keep it simple. I was circling the same corners, asking every oder fella about a place that i wasnt supposed to get to and then kept waiting at a non descript place to meet her but incidentally she never came. <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>We met however though. It was a great respite. The very look of her made all the toil vanish. I was so ecstatic to get her along and join the folks waiting. Arriving somewhere but still finding ways was now not meant to be.</p>
<p>The candlelight dinner that we had lighted up my entire spirits. Sitting beside her and mi best pal was more than what i could have ever dreamed of. No work of joy could define it. An extremely pounding heart was a obvious anatomical gesture. I could see her wink and i could see her smile. From the nearest distance. I could see her countenance change everytime she looked at me and everytime she listened to me. I could see the joy and love. She was by my side and she was wid me on the ride. She seemed to enjoi and she looked exuberant. She laughed more than a couple of times and i knew it wasnt false. And my day was made.</p>
<p>Didnt wanted to part ways wid her. Still we had to. She gave me a parting gift. I frowned. She looked detested. I accepted. When i had a look at it I was flying for a second. I am sure no amount of weeds could have done this to anyone what her token of love did to me. It was a small and sweet Lord Ganesha&#8217;s that she gave me as a sign of protection, trust, faith,love and devotion. I sweared to God and myself that I would love and care for her in the best way i could. I think I am a nice man. I have changed and i have learned to love and there is something deep down inside me that tells that she would be more than happy all through wid me. From God i ask the strength and sense to make it happen. I half slept that night. Thoughts took me to a lot of territories and to a lot of explorations. I dreamt a lot of things wid eyes wide open. It was a night i wish was a little longer. Still i wanted the day to come soon.</p>
<p>We met again the following day. It was a tough day for her. Still she managed to come. Still she was ready to come. Made me feel better. I had a few things up my sleeve for the day. I recorded a Wish You Were Here on my Acoustica dedicated to her. She was completely mesmerized the last time i sang that to her. I couldnt help myself from givin her a live recording. And i had also compiled a list of my all time best rock ballads. I named it Timeless Love. I was so anxious and eager to give her that.</p>
<p>Together the four of us were sitting at Piccadelhi, a london themed restro pub in  Cannaught Place, Delhi. It was all perfect. The food, the lights and the moods. Super fun time that i never thought would come. The past months had been a horrific nightmare. Things were changing. I shared the gifts i bought for her, we ate wid our heart out, we laughed and clicked photographs together, we talked love and affection and we could see love in each others touch. More than the words the eyes communicated. We strolled by the Central Park, sat at the coffee days, we discussed our pasts and talked irrelevant things. I still have to figure out how she tolerates me.</p>
<p>And we have found a linking for the places we have been to. So much so that we visited the same place again and sat on the same damn chair with same old angles. It revives the memory. The dosage of happier times in the past in present makes us feel more liberated with joy. We have a few things in common. Chocolate ice creams is one of them. She is a chocolate freak. We ordered choco chips with hol melted syrupy chocolate fudge over it. Melting moments. A walk to remember thence. If only we could have stayed more. Still its good to wait. It intensifies the passions. I could see her talk and walk and frown and wink. The conversation she was havin wid Nivi made perfect sense to me. Apart from the usual ladies talk i know what else were they takin about. Someone called me &#8220;Sweet&#8221; then. I immediately thought that Nivi muss be thinking I&#8217;ve become GAY now. That was the word we associated wid &#8220;sweet&#8221; and &#8220;cute&#8221;. And Nivi could neither believe that. When i was talkin to Nivi, she popped a question &#8221; Arrun, Is it you Karuna is talking about!! Gosh what has happened to you?&#8221;. I know her amazement was more than justified. She knew how stereotyped i was back some time. All i did 24/7 was insults. And had a deep sense of achievements there off. I know i was a pain to many in the past. And i loved that.</p>
<p>Nevertheless, past is neither good nor bad. Its dead and buried. And i have always accepted this fact. I revealed to Nivi that Karuna is going to her home for a week or two. She said &#8220;Don&#8217;t tell me you are gonna miss her&#8221;. I said &#8220;I would, badly. Indeed I would&#8221;. She burst into laughter. Perhaps due to non belief or may be she never know I could be like that.</p>
<p>I bid Karuna goodbye. I knew we wouldn&#8217;t be meeting very soon. But i knew she is everything to me.</p>
<p>Apart from my usual work and the readin and guitaring I do, I had a lil more time. I thought i would write stuffs. I think what i wrote were honest connotations of my heart. Not wrapped in artistic n glittery wordsmithy. I know i am missing her. I hope we would read it sometime in future and remember the things that mattered to much to us. I hope we would smile. And love each other more. Definetely, a start of something immensely beautiful and enchanting.</p>

The balance that was decentralized, with multiple negotiators, is rapidly becoming unipolar, under the headship of the Government.</p>

<p>The LTTE, a chief stakeholder against the governmental power-concentration, is now crushed and brought under the saddle.</p>
<p>The Main Opposition in the South is crippled and bed-resting, courtsey of the Government propaganda, the taming and the converting of the media and the pro-war mentality that has been spread and substantiated. All Opposition groups, for their political survival, are now compelled to be apologetic to degrees allowed by their own consciences.</p>
<p>The Government is in the process of taking the bull by the horns. Some argue that for a stable democracy one has to have a strong central authority. But, the nature of power is to corrupt and rot at the hands of extreme centralization. Times they are a changing.</p>
<p>&#8220;Don&#8217;t speak too soon, for the wheel&#8217;s still in spin&#8221;&#8230;.</p>
<p>Between this said &#8220;stable democracy&#8221; and &#8220;hegemony&#8221; the margins are not too thick. A centralized power agent with no negotiators as to the sharing of power gives way to a hegemony and a hegemonizing process &#8212; this can be located throughout history and in varying spheres.</p>
<p>&#8220;The line is now drawn, the curse is now cast&#8221;&#8230;.</p>
<p>At the Ranaviru celebrations at Parlimentary grounds, Ministers Vinayagamurthy Muralitharan and Douglas Devananda spoke in Tamil and Sinhala. Muralitharan, a former LTTE lynchpin now joined the democratic mainframe, may have written his Sinhala speech in Tamil; the reverse of President Rajapaksha&#8217;s speeches in Tamil, that most probably are written in Sinhala. But, that&#8217;s okay &#8212;- it at least connotes a semiotic shpirit of compromise; reconciliation.</p>
<p>At the same forum, Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Patali Champika and Mr. Wimal Weerawansa made three strong speeches that were essentially Sinhala nationalist; provocative of a &#8220;Sinhala&#8221; victory over seperatist terrorism.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>My 18 2009 will go down the corridors of history as a landmark day. The<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LTTE">LTTE</a> and the Tamil resistance came to an end in Sri Lanka.</p>
<p>Or did it?</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">The Sri Lankan army had been fighting a long drawn war with the Tamil extremists since last two and a half decades.The war that has killed thousands and displaced lakhs. This war had almost taken the proportions of a civil war. The LTTE started as an umbrella organization that brought together a handful of organizations representing the marginalized Tamil civilians. Soon, LTTE came into prominence in 1976 when they came to the forefront of the Tamil rights movement in the north Sri Lanka. The movement soon turned into an armed struggle against the Government.</p>
<p>The LTTE developed a well organized military outfit that managed to give many setbacks to the Sri Lankan Army. LTTE had a strong support base among the Tamil population in the north.LTTE controlled most of the Northern Sri Lanka and the coastal regions on the east and the some parts of the west. Also, the military succese of the LTTE was attributed to the popularity of the LTTE with the local Tamil populace. Over the time LTTE turned ruthless in its aggression acts and started recruitment of child and women soldiers. Also, there have been allegations of  forcible recruitment of  soldiers. The FBI and Scotland Yard acknowledge the LTTE terror tactics as the most ruthless and well planned.  LTTE also inspired HAMAS and Al Qaeda to prepare suicide squads and recruit child soldiers.</p>
<p>IPKF and the revolt by Col. Karuna are considered to be the two major setbacks to the LTTE movement in Lanka. Col. Karuna joined the mainstream politics and returned back to Colombo last year. His joining the Government is considered the turning point for the LTTE. </p>
<p>Last year, when the government started the &#8220;all out war&#8221; against the LTTE, not one would have thought that almost after only a year, the LTTE will be dead. The Sri Lankan government recently made Karuna the minister for national integration. I believe, It was not the government but Karuna who won the war. For had it not been for the crucial inputs given by Karuna, the Sri Lanka Army would not have advanced to the depth of the dense jungles ruled by LTTE for almost two decades.</p>
<p>The LTTE is also responsible for its own demise. There are some major mistakes committed the LTTE. Firstly, V Prabhakaran could have easily settled for a political package when he was in a bargaining position with major gains under his belt. He did not want anything less than  autonomy, which was not an option. Secondly, his own men turned against him as he became aggressive in recruiting people for his ranks. LTTE also used strong arm twist tactics for collecting money from the Tamils across the globe.  This not only made it unpopular among its own people but also gave a chance to the Lankan government to portray the Tigers as terrorists rather than the representatives of the Tamil population. The last major mistake committed by the LTTE was that it failed to convey its message to the international community and the mediators (international team led by Norway).</p>
<p>LTTE died on the 18th of May 2009 with the death of its leader V Prabhakaran. But, to assume that the Tamil problem in the island neighbour will be over with the end of LTTE is a big mistake. LTTE was the representative (some might disagree) of  the Tamil population in Lanka. The end of LTTE does not end the problems of the Tamils. The Government has to offer a social and political package to the Sri Lankan Tamils otherwise it will not be long before there is another military uprising by Tamils in the country under the aegis of some other Tamil organization.</p>
<p>Prabhakaran was not wise in taking some of hi decisions which shaped the future of his country. I hope and sincerely ra that the Sri Lanka President is wise enough to take some major decisions so that this problem raging from decades is brought to a logical end.</p>

O dia começou nublado e friozinho, poréme quando se aproximou da hora do casamento <a title="Indra" href="http://http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indra">Indra</a>, a chuva, apareceu e banhou toda a fazenda enquanto do outro lado Suria, o sol, chegava todo poderoso para iluminar o grande momento.</p>

O casal, Nalini Sita e Karuna, estavam radiantes, muito nervosos e apaixonados. Houve um momento que Nalini chorou de emoção ouvindo as palavras doces com sotaque castelhano de seu esposo e eu também me emocionei. Foi um casamento simples, porém o mais bonito que já vi entre os <em>vaishnavas</em> pelo sentimento de amor mutuo que estava ali escancarado para quem quisesse ver.</p>

<p>දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාව (Tamil Diaspora) ගැන කතා කිරීමේදී ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය දෙමළුන් ගැන දීර්ඝ පූර්විකාවක් ඊට එක්වීම නොවැළැක්විය හැකිය. (විශේෂයෙන්ම මේ ලේඛකයා මින් පෙර දෙමළුන් ගැන ගැඹුරින් ලියා නැති පරිසරය තුළ)</p>
<p>උතුරු නැඟෙණහිර පළාත් සඳහා ෆෙඩරල් පාලනයක අවශ්‍යතාව දුටු එස්. ජේ. වී. චෙල්වනායගම් සේම &#8216;දෙමළ&#8217; සුළුජාතීන් උදෙසා සියයට පණහක නියෝජනයක් බලාපොරොත්තු වූ ජී. ජී. පොන්නම්බලම්ද &#8216;ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය දෙමළුන්&#8217; දුටුවේ තනි මොනොලිතික ජාතියක් හැටියටය. තමන්ගේ කියා දේශපාලන දර්ශනයක් කිසිවිටෙක නොතිබූ පිරබාහරන් චෙල්වනායගම්ගේ &#8216;දෙමළ නිදහස් සටන&#8217; හයිජැක් කළේ මේ මිත්‍යාවද සමඟය.</p>
<p>මෙය දැනුවත්ව හෝ නැතිව බැස ගන්නා ලද වැරදි නිගමනයකි. &#8216;ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය දෙමළුන්&#8217; බිඳී ගිය, හෙත්‍රෝජීනිසීය (heterogeneous) ජාතියකි. මෑත ඉතිහාසයේ කිසි දිනෙක ඔවුන් තනි ජාතියක් වූයේ නොවේ. වර්තමානයෙහි මෙහි ප්‍රධාන සංරචක කිහිපයක් හඳුනා ගත හැකිය. උප කුලක නොසළකා හැර ඇත. (උදා: කිතුණු සංස්කෘතියක වෙසෙන මන්නාරම් දෙමළු හින්දු සංස්කෘතියක වෙසෙන බහුතරයක් උතුරු දෙමළුන්ගෙන් වෙනස්ය.) මේ සංරචක සමහරවිට සංස්කෘතික වශයෙන්ද, හැමවිටම දේශපාලන වශයෙන්ද එකිනෙකට වෙනස්ය. එසේම ඔවුන්ගේ ඉතිහාසය ගැනත්, භූමියට ඇති උරුමය ගැනත්, දේශපාලන අරමුණු ගැනත් ඔවුන් අතරම මතභේද ඇත.</p>
<p>දෙමළ සංස්කෘතිය ගැන ඇති පරිපූර්ණ නොවූ දැනුමින් වුවද ලේඛකයා හඳුනා ගන්නා ප්‍රධාන සංරචක මෙසේය.</p>
<p><strong>1. Jaffna Tamils ලෙස හඳුන්වනු ලබන උතුරු පළාතේ වාර්ගික දෙමළු:</strong> පිරබාහරන් ඓන්ද්‍රීයව බද්ධ වන්නේ මේ සංරචකය සමඟය. මොවුහු භූමිය හා &#8216;දෙමළ කම&#8217; පිළිබඳව තමන්ට ඇති අයිතිය අනෙක් දෙමළුන්ට වඩා වැඩියයි කල්පනා කරති. අනෙකුත් ජන වර්ග සමඟ සංයෝජනය වීම ඉතා අල්පය.</p>
<p><strong>2. නැඟෙනහිර දෙමළු:</strong> උතුරු පළාතේ දෙමළුන්ට යම් පමණකට සමාන වෙතත් &#8216;දෙමළ කම&#8217; හා &#8216;භූමිය&#8217; පිළිබඳ ප්‍රශ්නයේදී ඊට පහළ තලයකට වැටෙන බව දෙපැත්තේම පිළිගැන්මය. අනෙකුත් ජන වර්ග, විශේෂයෙන් මුස්ලිමුන් සමඟ උතුරු දෙමළුන්ට වඩා කිට්ටු බැඳීමක් පෙන්වයි. කරුණා හා පිල්ලයාන් තම අතීත නායකයා හා බිඳීම එක්තරා මට්ටමකට මේ උතුරු-නැඟෙනහිර බෙදුමට බැර කළ හැකිය.</p>
<p><strong>3. Colombo Tamils ලෙස පොදුවේ හඳුන්වන, උතුරු නැඟෙනහිර පළාත් වලින් පිට වාසය කරන දෙමළු:</strong> අනෙකුත් ජනවර්ග හා මිශ්‍රව කටයුතු කිරීම තුළ මොවුන්ගේ වාර්ගික හුදකලාව යම් පමණකට තුනී වී ඇත. දේශපාලන වශයෙන් වාර්ගික වෙනවාට වඩා සිංහල දේශපාලන පක්ෂ සමඟ පෑහී කටයුතු කිරීමට වැඩි නැඹුරුතාවයක් දක්වයි. (දෙමළ බහුතරයක් වෙසෙන දකුණු කොළඹ ආසනයට දීර්ඝ කාලයක් මහජන චන්දයෙන් පත්වූයේ &#8216;සිංහල&#8217; නියෝජිතයන් වූ ජේ. ආර්. ජයවර්ධන හා බර්නාඩ් සොයිසාය.)</p>
<p><strong>4. ඉන්දියනු සම්භවයක් ඇති දෙමළු:</strong> &#8216;වතු&#8217; දෙමළුන්ට අමතරව සාපේක්ෂව මෑත භාගයේ මෙරටට සංක්‍රමණය වූ විශාල පිරිසක් මීට අයත්ය. මොවුන්ද උතුරු දෙමළුන් හා එක් වනවාට වඩා සිංහල දේශපාලන පක්ෂ සමඟ එක්වී කටයුතු කිරීමට නැඹුරුතාවක් දක්වයි. මොවුන්ගේ දේශපාලන නායකයන් වන තොන්ඩමන් හා චන්ද්‍රසේකර් දෙදෙනාම වර්තමාන රජයේ ඇමතිවරුන්ය. මීට අමතරව වතු දෙමළු සැලකිය යුතු විශාල පිරිසක් පසුගිය පළාත් සභා මැතිවරණයේදී එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂයට චන්දය ප්‍රකාශ කළහ. සිංහලයන් සමඟ යුද වැදීමෙන් නොව, සහයෝගයෙන් කටයුතු කිරීම මඟින් තම අයිතිවාසිකම් හා වර ප්‍රසාද දිනා ගැනීම ඔවුන්ගේ උපාය මාර්ගය බව පෙනේ. මේ සුළු ජාතියකට පෙන්විය හැකි යහපත් ප්‍රවනතාවකි.</p>
<p><strong>5. දෙමළ මව් බස (හෝ එකම බස) වූ මුස්ලිම් ජාතිකයින්:</strong> චෙල්වනායගම්ට සේම පොන්නම්බලම්ටද මොවුන්ද &#8216;දෙමළුන්&#8217; විය. මේ නිර්වචනය අදට සාධාරණ නොවිය හැකිය.</p>
<p>දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාව මේ ලැයිස්තුවට එකතු වන සයවන සංරචකය සේ සැලකිය හැකිය. සංඛ්‍යාත්මකව එය ඉහත සමහර සංරචක වලට වඩා විශාල විය හැකිය. (කැනඩාවේ පමණක් මේ වන විට ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය සම්භවයක් ඇති දෙමළුන් මිලියනයකට වඩා ඇතැයි කියැවේ.) එසේම මේ ඉතා බලගතු හඬක් ඇති සංරචකයකි. එය ඉහත මුල් සංරචක හතරින්ම බිඳී ආ අයගෙන් සමන්විත වුවත් කැපී පෙනෙන ලෙස නිරූපනය කරන්නේ උතුරු දෙමළුන්ගේ කොටි හිතවාදී දේශපාලනයයි.</p>
<p>ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ වාර්ගික අර්බූදයට සේම යුද්ධයටද දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාවේ සහභාගිත්වය අවතක්සේරු නොකළ හැකිය. නිවෙන්නට ගිය ගිනි පුපුරු වලට ගිනි පිඹිමින්, පිරබාහරන්ට මූල්‍ය ආධාර සැපයීම පමණක් නොව ඔහුගේ ව්‍යාපාරය පිළිබඳ අන්තර්ජාතික මතයක් ගොඩ නැඟීමද භාර ගනිමින් වසර තිහකට වැඩි කාලයක මේ මෙහෙවර නොවෙන්නට පිරබාහරන් මීට බොහෝ කාලයකට ඉහත සෙට්ට පෝච්චි වන්නට ඉඩ නොතිබුනාම නොවේ යැයි කීම බොරුවක් නොවනු ඇත. ගහ දන්නා පාඨකයන්ට දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාවේ ක්‍රියාන්විතයන් පුනරුච්චාරණය අර්ථ විරහිතය.</p>
<p>වර්තමානයේ ක්‍රියාත්මක වන මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂගේ &#8216;මානුෂික&#8217; කෙසේ වෙතත් &#8216;චණ්ඩි&#8217; මෙහෙයුම දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාවට අමුතුම භූමිකාවක් රඟ පෑමේ අවස්ථාව ලබා දී ඇත. ඒ අන්තර්ජාතික වැදගත්කමක් ඇති නගරයන්හි පවත්වන පෙළපාලි විරෝධතා මාර්ගයෙන් මහින්දට විරුද්ධ ප්‍රබල ජාත්‍යන්තර ජනමතයක් ගොඩ නැඟීම අරමුණු කොටය. මාධ්‍ය මඟින් ලෝකය පාලනය කරන්නාවූ හා වැඩියෙන් හයියෙන් කෑගසන්නා මාධ්‍ය පාලනය කරන්නා වූ පරිසරයක මෙය නොසළකා හැරිය යුතු නැත. කොටින්ම &#8216;චණ්ඩි-මහින්ද&#8217; නැතිව වෙනත් පාලකයකු වී නම් උතුරු නැඟෙනහිර යුද මෙහෙයුම් නතර කරන තත්වයට යන්නට පවා බලවත් හඬ නැඟීමකි ඒ. එහෙත් චණ්ඩීන් දෙදනකු අතර සටනේදී ප්‍රතිවාදියාට මොහොතක හෝ විරාමයක් දීම මාරාන්තික විය හැකි බව දන්නා චණ්ඩි-මහින්ද ඒ අවදානම ගන්නට සූදානම් බවක් තවම නොපෙනෙයි.</p>
<p>මේ ප්‍රශ්නයේදී, රටේ බොහෝ දෙනකු සේම ලේඛකයාද සිතන්නේ ඇත්තේ එකම අවසානයක් බවයි. පිරබාහරන්ට තවත් ජීවත් වීමට ඇත්තේ සීමිත දින ගණනකි. සමූලඝාතනයක් ඇතිව හෝ නැතිව LTTEය වනසා දමනු ඇත. මේ වන විටත් ලෝකයේ ප්‍රධාන නගර කිහිපයක පැල් බඳගෙන කෑගසන දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාවේ ක්‍රියාවලි වලට මේ පැහැදිළි අවසානය නතර කිරීමට ඉඩක් ඇතැයි සිතිය නොහැක්කේ ඉන්දියාව ඇතුළු බොහෝ රටවල් දැනටම ප්‍රායෝගිකව යුද්ධයෙන් යුද්ධය නතර කිරීමේ හැකියාව පිළිගෙන ඇති හෙයිනි. තමා පටන් ගත් කාර්යයෙන් සියයට අනූ නවයක් අහවර කොට ඇති මහින්ද ඉතිරි සියයට එක අවසන් කිරීමට ගත හැකි සියළුම අවදානම් ගනිතැයි උපකල්පනය කළ හැකිය.</p>
<p>ලේඛකයා එකඟ නොවන්නේ දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාව පිරබාහරන්ගෙන් ගිළිහෙන බැටනය අතට ගනීය යන සුළුතර මතයටය. ලේඛකයාගේ අදහස පිරබාහරන්ගේ අවසානය සමඟම දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාවේද පැවැත්ම අහෝසිවී යනු ඇති බවයි. එනයින් දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාව මේ ගයන්නේ ස්වකීය හංස ගීතයයි.</p>
<p>දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාව යනු කවුරුන් දැයි වටහා ගැනීමෙන් මේ නිගමනයේ නිරවද්‍යතාව වටහා ගත හැකිය.</p>
<p>දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාව ඇරඹෙන්නේ සිංහලය පමණක් රජබස වීමෙන් රට හැර යන්නට වරම් ලැබූ වෘත්තිකයන් පිරිසකගෙන් මීට ශත වර්ෂ භාගයකට පමණ ඉහතය. මොවුන් රට හැර යන්නේ රට ගැන එක්තරා අන්දමක වෛරයක් නොරිස්සුමක් සමඟය. ඔවුන් අතුරින් ඒ වෛරය ක්‍රියාවට නංවන සුළු පිරිසෙන් අයෙකි ඇන්ටන් බාලසිංහම්. නමුත් බොහෝ දෙනකුගේ මේ වෛරය කාලයාගේ ඇවෑමෙන් දියවී යයි.</p>
<p>1983 දී යුද්ධය ආරම්භ වීමෙන් පසු දෙමළුන්ගේ රට හැර යාම උග්‍ර වේ. මෙසේ යන පිරිසෙන් කොටසක් රට හැර යන්නේ තමන්ට මෙරට ලැබිය නොහැකි අධ්‍යාපනික හා රැකියා අවස්ථා ලබා ගැනීම සඳහාය. ලේඛකයා මෙහි වරදක් නොදකී. ජාතික චින්තනය ගැන දේශනා කරන නලින් ද සිල්වාද අවසානයේ තමන්ගේ පුතුන් අධ්‍යාපනය සඳහා යවන්නේ පිටරටටය. එසේනම් ඊට වඩා බෙහෙවින් අඩු අවස්ථා ලබන දෙමළුන් රට හැර යාම තේරුම් ගත හැකිය.</p>
<p>තිත්ත ඇත්ත නම් යුද්ධය මෙසේ රට හැර යන දෙමළුන්ට ආශිර්වාදයක් වීමය. දේශපාලන ඇසයිලම (political asylum) ලැබීම එක්තරා මට්ට්ටමකට දෙමළුන්ට ලැබෙන අවස්ථා ගණන වැඩි කරයි. මේ නිසා නලින් ද සිල්වාටසේම යුද්ධය තම පැවැත්ම කර ගැනීමට කුලකයක් වශයෙන් ඔවුනටද සිදුවේ. අඩු වැඩි වශයෙන් යුද්ධය වවාගෙන කන්නට දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාවට සිදුවන්නේ ඒ අනුවය. ඊට අමතරව එසේම පිරබාහරන්ගේ ත්‍රස්තවාදී ක්‍රියාද ඔවුන් විසින් සාධාරණීකරණය කළයුතු වෙයි. මේ නිසා කොළඹ යුදවාදී සිංහල &#8216;විද්වතුන්&#8217; පැටළුණු පඹගාලේම ඔවුන්ද පැටලෙති.</p>
<p>දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාව සම්බන්ධ අනෙක් ඇත්ත නම් ඔවුන්ගේ &#8216;සටන&#8217; පිරබාහරන්ගේ ටෙස්ට් මැච් එක මෙන් නොව සීමිත ඕවර් ගණනක සොෆ්ට් බෝල් ඉන්ඩෝර් මැච් එකක් වීමය. උතුරු දෙමළුන් සේ ඔව්හු පිරබාහරන් සමඟ ඓන්ද්‍රීයව බද්ධ නොවෙති. පිරබාහරන් සමඟ ඔවුන්ගේ ගනුදෙනුව &#8216;බිස්නස්&#8217; එකකි. පිරබාහරන් ඔවුන්ගේ මූල්‍යමය ආධාර බලාපොරොත්තු වේ. (කෙසේ වෙතත් දයස්පෝරාවගෙන් ලැබෙන ආධාර LTTEයේ ප්‍රධාන ආදායම් මාර්ගයක් නොවන බව හෙළිවූයේ සටන් විරාම සමයේ ඉන්දීය පර්යේෂකයන් පිරිසක් කළ අධ්‍යනයකදීය. ඔවුන්ට අනුව දයස්පෝරාවගෙන් LTTEයට ලැබුනේ ආදායමින් 10% ක් පමණය.) එසේම ජාත්‍යන්තර මට්ටමින් ප්‍රචාරක කටයුතු මෙහෙයවීමද බලපොරොත්තු වේ. මේ හැරුණු විට දෙමළ වුව දයස්පෝරාව තම සටනෙහි කොටස් කරුවන් කර ගැනීමට පිරබාහරන් වුව උනන්දුවක් නොදක්වයි. &#8220;අපි මෙහේ පු&#8230; ඉරාගෙන යුද්ධ කරනව. තමුසෙලා පිටරට වලට වෙලා සැප විඳිනවා!&#8221; යි ඔහු කවදාවත් දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාවට චෝදනා නොකරන්නේ එහෙයිනි. සටන දින්නත්, තමන්ගේ සිහින රාජ්‍යය ස්ථාපිත කළත් දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාව යළි මව් රට නොපැමිණෙන බව පිරබාහරන්ද දනී. ඔහුට ඔවුන් පෞද්ගලික බස් රථයක කොන්දොස්තර කෙනෙකුට මඟීන් (&#8220;කෑලි&#8221;) මෙන් ආදායම් මාර්ගයක් පමණකි.</p>
<p>වෙනත් වචන වලින් කිව්වොත් දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාව යනු අද වනවිට බටහිර ධනවත් රටවල කාලයක් තිස්සේ පදිංචි වී දැනට මුල් අල්ලා ඇති යළි කෙදිනකවත් මෙරට පැමිණ පදිංචි වේයැයි සිතිය නොහැකි පිරිසකි. ගුණදාස අමරසේකරගෙන් ණයට ගත් යෙදුමකින් විස්තර කරන්නේ නම් තනිකරම විජාතික පංතියකි. ශ්‍රී ලංකාව ගැන කිසිම අවබෝධයක් නැති, නමින් පමණක් දෙමළ වන ඔවුන්ගේ දෙවන හා තුන්වන පරම්පරාවන් ඊටත් වඩා විජාතිකය. (උදා: මායා අරුල්ප්‍රගාසම් හෙවත් M.I.A.) මෙවැනි පිරිසකට තමන්ට ඕනෑ ඕනෑ හැටියට බෝට්ටුව සෙළවිය හැකිය. ඔවුන්ගේ අරමුණ පිරබාහරන්ගේ අරමුණටත් වඩා ආත්මාර්ථකාමීය. පිරබාහරන් අඩු තරමින් යුද්ධයෙන් දිනීම බලාපොරොත්තු වෙයි. දෙමළ දයස්පෝරාවට වැදගත් වන්නේ තම මනෝ සංතෘප්තිය උදෙසා යුද්ධය පවත්වාගෙන යාමය. කොළඹ කේන්ද්‍ර කොටගත් යුදවාදී සිංහල මධ්‍යම පංතිය ගමේ කොල්ලන් වයින් කොට යුදබිමට යවන්නාක් සේම ඔවුන්ද තමන්ගේ දරුවන් බටහිර රටවල සැපවත් ජීවිත ගත කරද්දී උතුරේ අහිංසක තරුණයන් අවිගෙන පිරබාහරන් වෙනුවෙන් දිවිදීම අනු දනිති. තමන්ගේ වෛරය ඔවුන් පිට කරන්නේ මෙසේ දිගින් දිගට ඇදී යන යුද්ධයේ ප්‍රතිඵල තුළිනි. ක්‍රිකට් මැච් එකක ස්කෝර් එක බලන්නාක් සේ ඔවුන් යුද්ධයේ ඵල දවස ගණනේ තළු මරමින් රස විඳිනවා විය හැකිය.</p>
<p>පසුගිය මාස කිහිපය තුළ ඔවුන්ගේ විරෝධතා නිරීක්ෂණය කළ ඕනෑමකෙනෙකුට ඒවා උතුරු පළාතේ ප්‍රභා-මහින්ද ග්‍රහණයට කොටු වූ අහිංසකයන් වෙනුවෙන් කළ ඒවාද නැතොත් LTTEයේ, එනම් යුද්ධයේ පැවැත්ම සඳහා කළ ඒවාද කියා සැකයක් පැවතිය නොහැකිය. මොවුනට කිලෝමීටර් දසදහස් ගණනක් එපිටින් සිටින කාලයක ඉහත තම වර්ගයාගේ කඳුලු මහින්දට තරම්වත් වැදගත් නොවේ.</p>
<p>දැන් චන්ඩි-මහින්ද මැච් එක අවසාන කිරීමට සූදානම්ය. හැමදාමත් තරගයේ ප්‍රෙක්ෂකයන් පමණක්ව සිටි දෙමළ දයස්පෝරය දැන් තරගයේ පරාජය පිළිගෙන ප්‍රේක්ෂකාගාරයෙන් බැස ගෙදර යායුතුයැයි ලේඛකයාගේ අදහසය.</p>
