Hola. Simplemente para empezar quisiera que sepan para qué está hecho este blog y qué es lo que encontrarás en él.
Primeramente, creé este blog pensando en mi Tesis. Tesis? perdón, tengo que presentarme primero. Mi nombre es Christian Olaya, tengo 24 años (ya casi 25), soy bachiller de Ingeniería Industrial y de Sistemas, actualmente trabajo en el área de operaciones de la empresa petrolera nacional peruana, Petroperú S.A. bajo la modalidad de una empresa tercerizadora.
Bien, retomando, el motivo número 1 es que ya tengo que hacer mi tesis, y estoy buscando un tema para presentarle a un profesor de mi Universidad y así avanzar, voy a cumplir dos años desde que egresé y ya es hora no?

Leí en un blog que para hacer una tesis tenías que elegir un tema que te guste, porque sino a la larga se convertiría en un suplicio, en cambio si es algo que te gusta y que realmente te apasiona (y eso es muy importante, que te apasione), entonces adelante!; otro aspecto importante es que el tema tiene que ser algo realizable, no tiene que necesariamente” cambiar al mundo”.

Entonces, para mí, no fue difícil elegir en qué area lo desarrollaría: me apasiona muchísimo la programación, es un gusto que no he podido satisfacer desde que salí de mi universidad. Era muy bueno programando las cosillas que nos dejaban, pero de allí sólo conseguí trabajos de planeamiento o de operaciones, más no de programación. Hay otra cosa que me atrae mucho, es la navegación por internet. A veces paso horas navegando, pero a diferencia de muchos de mis amigos, no la paso chateando, buscando imágenes, o viendo videos. La paso buscando mejras para mi navegador (Firefox porsupuesto), mejoras para mi computadora, noticias sobre sftware, informática, hacking Google, distribuciones GNU/Linux, etc, etc etc;  de esta forma he aprendido muchísimo, domino a mi compu, no ella a mí.

Bien, ese fue mi primer motivo, obtener un tema. El segundo motivo fue motivado por alguien más: la envidia. Me daba mucha envidia leer muchos blog, la mayoría buenísimos y de mucha ayuda, otros no tanto, pero eran la minoría. Aquí en mi trabajo ayudo a muchísima gente a resolver problemas, y me pregunté: por qué no? por qué no tener mi propio blog y presentar todos los trucos que sé?

Descubrí algo muy serio: la web lo tiene TODO, allí están todas las soluciones a nuestros problemas, pero lo serio no es eso, lo serio es que a las personas no les gusta leer, a otras (la mayoría), no les gusta buscar, otras no saben buscar eficientemente (y eso que con Don “G” todas nuestras búsquedas se nos hacen más fáciles).

Bien, ese fue mi segundo motivo: hacer mi propio blog sobre trucos en la web. Esto lo he querido hacer hace mucho pero desde cero, programando desde XHTML, CSS, PHP MySql, Apache y Javascript, pero el tiempo es mi mejor excusa.

Mi objetivo entonces es conseguir un tema, tengo mi preferido: He pensado programar un aplicación en PHP, no sé , a un nivel alto; por allí puedo emplear Drupal, que es otra de mis curiosidades por cumplir, y por allí, no sé, algo que pensé hacer es una ecommerce empleando drupal y modificando un módulo para implementarlo en un negocio pequeño (una micro o pequeña empresa).

Otra cosa que puedo hacer es una aplicación en C++ o C#, pero la verdad no sé por dónde empezar.

Soy todo oídos,… ehm, mejor dicho soy todo ojos, así que espero sus comentarios, con guía incluida.

De mi parte, para cumplir el Motivo2, publicaré un regalo: una licencia genuina (no pirata) de 6 meses gratuita de Kaspersky y completamente en español. Así que ayúdenme que los ayudaré.

PD. Por ahora uso Window$ porque uso mi  laptop de trabajo, pero en mi laptop personal tengo ubuntu y estoy por probar ArchLinux.

Upgraded to Windows 7 a few weeks ago. I wanted to wake bit before writing about to make sure that I’d had a chance to use it for a while and see how it worked.

Now, I’m no techie.. I’m a user. My interaction with the software is based on being a power user if you will, I use a lot of social networking stuff.. obviously. I use Microsoft Office extensively, lots of Visio, Excel and Access. I’m a reputed “power user” in these applications. Sort of the office resource for support and for producing reports, building databases, that sort of stuff. Other than that, the odd entertainment package, music applications, photo stuff, lots of photo stuff, and that about wraps up what I do.

I’m also a Mac and PC user. My wife and kids have Macs, and given the choice would use the Mac. Personally since I actually work with my computer, and the Mac has neither Visio OR Access, it’s not all that helpful. I’m also a big fan of the Windows Live stuff, not which works on a Mac. I’m not big fan of Apples closed proprietary architecture, which BTW is why Mac will never be business platform, but then again I don’t think they care.

All that aside, I was not one of those who was offended by Vista. Matter of fact, once I got used to the interfaces on the office suite I sort of liked it. I didn’t experience instability with Vista, I wasn’t doing anything that really stretched to operating system, I really didn’t have any complaints.

Why upgrade? I’m a sucker for new technology, early adopter if you will. I made it to a Windows 7 house party, saw some cool things, liked the interface a lot, but to be honest things like shaking windows and running two windows at once side by side.. not something that I’m too excited about, my learning curve on stuff like is reallllly long,

I dove into the 7 pool two weeks ago Friday. Inserted the 7 Ultimate DVD into the PC and followed  instructions. After answering the right questions and inputting the correct serial numbers the process started. Since I was upgrading Vista a complete harddrive reformat was not required; desirable, but not required.  I had backed up my media and personal data just incase, but I did it in a way that was neither efficient or easy to get back,  more later.

After watching the thing clock away and warn me not to turn off the PC for over an hour I went to bed. The next morning I was a bit distressed to see that the PC was still clocking. It had completed file loads and rebooting processes, but the final completion was hanging it up. I waited  a couple hours and when nothing had happened, against advice I turned off the PC and rebooted from the disc drive with a complete reformat. Thanks goodness I’d saved.

The second install went better than the first and actually completed. I logged on, created my account and started installing my office suite. Unfortunately  I had no keyboard, no mouse, no sound and no HP Hot Buttons.. None of the HP drivers were installed. This made the computer a bit of brick to be honest. I hooked up an old external keyboard and for some reason that worked. I made it out the HP website and found the 7 drivers, installed them and was back in business.

Sound card was fixed with Microsofts “FixIt” which to my pleasant surprise actually did fix it. I had sound.. Bad news is, my sound doesn’t last..

iTunes took a couple tries to get installed, and once installed imported my library incorrectly, giving me 4 files for every song I owned, which in my case is a lot of songs. The idea of manually removing them.. not realistic. That problem was corrected with a bit of freeware http://www.digitalvolcano.co.uk/content/index.php, an easy to use duplicate file remover that can go after media files only if desired. Thank goodness it worked.. hand selecting 12,000 files would have taken a while.

My photo back up regimen did NOT include my nested folders for some reason,, user error and that mistake cost me all of my summer of 2009 at the lake pics. My fault, but incredibly annoying none the less.

Other that Mrs Lincoln, the play was fine.

Now that I’ve been using the software, I’d give it a pretty glowing review. It’s certainly easy to understand. The snip it feature alone is cool, like that. Windows Media Player is better than iTunes.. but alas doesn’t sync with an iPod.. so the great functionality is of limited usefulness, since I’m not going open it very often.

The machine certainly boots and shuts down much faster than it did on Vista.. thanks goodness. My only continuing complaint is the sound driver still doesn’t work correctly. About once a day I lose sound and have to reboot to get it back.

My virus software, Kaspersky doesn’t seem to like Win 7. Added to the trouble Kaspersky the company doesn’t seem to like me. They have no record of the 3 year deal I bought to keep my software current and since I lost the emails with the codes.. I’m screwed. BUT, I’m using Microsoft’s new Security Essentials, free software that’s getting pretty good reviews. So far I’ve been very happy with it. It’s certainly not the resource hog that Norton or McAffee was.

I’ve had zero compatibility issues with Windows 7. Everything I run or have run in the past seems to work great.. no problems there. So all in all, I think Microsoft has a winner on the operating system.. now they need to get more from their mail and browsers to really get the home market nailed.

23 November 2009. Seorang hacker bernama Unu menuliskan dalam blognya bahwa ia baru saja “berjalan-jalan” di server Symantec. Dengan menggunakan Blind SQL Injection, Unu mengakui telah mengakses informasi sensitif seperti data pelanggan dan karyawan Symantec. Satu hal yang membuatnya terkejut adalah: password dari semua user disimpan dalam plain text.

We randomly selected 6 users, from number 100 to 105, in the table. I was outraged when I saw the result shown by sqlmap. These users passwords are stored in CLEAR TEXT !!!!!!!.

Lebih lanjut ia mengatakan, “Sungguh aneh. Perusahaan seperti Symantec yang menawarkan solusi keamanan justru tidak dapat melindungi dirinya sendiri.” Hmm, tidak dapat atau tidak mau ya?

Pada bagian akhir tulisannya, Unu menegaskan bahwa tujuan dari aksinya itu adalah untuk memberi peringatan.

Pada bulan Februari, Kaspersky telah terkena injeksi SQL. Mereka mengakui kelemahannya, dan itu membuat saya kagum. Walaupun awalnya marah pada saya, pada akhirnya mereka paham bahwa saya tidak mengambil data apapun dan tidak menggunakannya untuk kepentingan apapun. Tujuan saya, sampai saat ini, adalah mengingatkan. To call attention.

Sementara itu, sebagaimana dikutip oleh detik, Symantec menyebutkan bahwa insiden ini hanya berimbas pada pelanggan di Jepang dan Korea Selatan, tapi tidak berpengaruh pada keamanan dan penggunaan produk konsumer Norton Symantec.

Symantec tengah meng-update situs dengan standar keamanan yang sesuai, dan akan kembali online sesegera mungkin. Symantec sedang menyelidiki insiden ini dan belum ada informasi detail lainnya yang bisa disampaikan saat ini

Duh jadi bingung, kantor saya mau pakai apa ya dengan adanya kasus ini?

Kaspersky Unveils Antivirus for Mac. It is wrong to think that a Mac operating system is safe from malware.

“Since 2005, there has been a marked increase in the number of vulnerabilities in the Mac OS which can be used to conduct an attack via the Internet,” said Gun Suk Ling, managing director for Kaspersky Lab, Southeast Asia.

Recently, secure content management solutions developer Kaspersky Lab announced the release of its latest product Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Mac. It shields the Mac OS against viruses, worms and Trojan as well as similar problems on other operating systems such as Windows and Linux.

It has been observed that the introduction of Mac OS X has made known on a wide scale the usefulness of multi-platform computers, and thus created a room for Mac in corporate and home networks.

The flipside of the coin, however, is that multi-platform feature also made the Mac, like any other computers in a network, prone to malware attack.

“Just because they have not been infected in the past does not mean they are safe now,” Gun said. “For example, a Mac machine may be compromised by Trojans or key loggers without the user being alerted to the presence of the threat.”

Features

To protect the Mac against viruses, the Kaspersky Anti-Virus has a global anti-virus database of more than 20 million malicious programs for a range of platforms. There are also hourly updates to ensure users are protected against the very latest malicious programs that appear every day.

The Kaspersky Anti-Virus also enables better use of system resources by increasing the performance of user applications when the priority of the anti-virus scanner decreases, especially during intense user activity. Kaspersky Lab said its anti-virus engine “dramatically increases system scanning speed particularly on dual- and quad-core processor platforms.”

To prevent the transfer of malware from Windows and Unix virtual systems to the work environment, a protective response is added to the Kaspersky Anti-Virus for shared folders on virtual machines, which are also gaining in popularity with both corporate and home users.

With the Kaspersky Anti-Virus’ animated user-friendly interface for both novices and experienced users, the information about the protection status and any necessary user actions are presented in a graphic format that is easy to understand.

Because users hate being bothered with unnecessary requests, the Kaspersky Anti-Virus carries an automated mode, enabling the program to take decisions automatically.

In terms of compatibility, the Kaspersky Anti-Virus can work with versions of OS from 10.4.11. A Macintosh with the Intel processor, 512 MB available RAM and 80 MB available hard drive space are the other technical requirements.

After using AVG Free anti-virus for many years, we have switched all of our home PCs to Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.

AVG served us faithfully for five years. It never malfunctioned. Still, it didn’t far so well in a recent high-profile test of anti-virus products.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 can be installed on up to three home computers. It comes with (of course) anti-virus software, plus a firewall, parental controls, and the ability to run selected applications in a sandbox. It has other features that I will write about in future blog posts.

If you’re on a budget, the free version of AVG is still good, and way better than nothing. I still recommend AVG for people who simply don’t have the cash for Kaspersky or another product.

How exactly does it work? When a criminal gathers enough personally identifiable information about you, that person can take over your identity to commit a range of crimes for their own personal gain.

A variety of techniques – including old-fashioned thievery and cyber scams – can be used to get past your defenses. According to ID Theft Protect’s website, a leading resource for consumers on identity fraud, identity theft, and data privacy, the five most popular methods of identity fraud and theft are:

1. Application fraud: using stolen or counterfeit documents to open an account in your name.
2. Account ID take-over: using your personal information to take over your bank or credit accounts.
3. Mail non-receipt card fraud: stealing new or replaced bank and credit cards as they are in the process of being mailed to you by your card company.
4. Phishing e-mail fraud: posing as a legitimate institution in order to capture personal or financial information by e-mail.

• Install security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware software) and keep it up-to-date as a safety measure against online intrusions.
• Use an updated Web browser to make sure you’re taking advantage of its current safety features. Consider using an alternate browser (like Firefox or Opera) which may lower your risk of malware attacks.
• Be wary of e-mail attachments and links in both e-mail and instant messages. Use caution even when the message appears to come from a safe sender, as identity information in messages can easily be spoofed.
• Store sensitive data securely. Just as you keep sensitive paper documents under lock and key, secure sensitive online information. This can be done through file encryption software.
• Shred documents (both paper and electronic) that contain personal or financial information before discarding them. This prevents dumpster diving and, in the online world, the ability for hackers to bypass information that has not been permanently deleted from your computer.
• Protect your PII. Be cautious about giving out your personally identifiable information (PII) to anyone. Find out why the information is needed, and if it’s absolutely necessary to give out. Be careful about the details you provide about yourself online, such as on social networking sites.
• Stay alert to the latest scams. Awareness and caution are effective methods to counter fraud. Share security tips you learn with friends and family.

Update KAV versi 7 tidaklah sulit. Tidak seperti update KAV versi setelahnya(versi 8 atau 2009 keatas) yang kita diharuskan menggunakan tool yang disebut Kaspersky Updater untuk mendownload file database update-tannya. Tentang tool ini silahkan baca ini.

Untuk mengupadate KAV versi 7 kita tinggal mendownload file update database -nya langsung di kaspersky.com seperti mendownload file seperti pada umumnya tanpa repot menggunakan berbagai macam tool atau settingan yang biasanya terdiri dari 3 file arsip. Ketiga file tersebutnya adalah: av-i386&ids-cumul.zip dimana ini adalah file yang harus juga anda download jika anda baru melakukan update KAV anda untuk pertamakali. Selanjutnya file: av-i386-weekly.zip yang merupakan file update databese untuk periode mingguan pada saat anda mendownload file ini. yang terakhir adalah file: av-i386-daily.zip adalah file periode harian saat itu. Setelah kita mendapatkan 3 file hasil download tersebut ekstrak 3 file tersebut pada satu direktori atau satu folder, kemudian lakukan langkah-langkah update-nya:

• Buka setting kaspersky dari systry

• pilih menu update dan setting

• Tentukan source file update hasil download

• Hilangkan cek list(centang pada kaspersky lab’s update servers)

• Pilih Tab aditional dan cek list update distribution folder kemudian OK

• Klik kanan systry pilih update

• Tunggu proses update
