Last weekend New Moon opened and in the process broke a bunch of box-office records or something. Clearly teenage girls like the whole vampires vs werewolves thing. Or maybe they just like hunk vs. hunk. I’m almost tempted to check out some Jacob/Edward fic, but I think I’ll refrain.

But if Twilight is the domain of teenage girls, a certain type of young man (*cough* basement nerd *cough*) goes for another vampires vs. werewolves franchise, Underworld. This has a lot, I suspect, to do with Kate Beckinsale’s vinyl onesie.

The whole vampires vs. werewolves thing isn’t new though. Check out The Wolfman Vs. The Vampire Woman in its entirety (below). That’s some classic wolf-on-vamp action, that is. Don’t say Nerd Hurdles doesn’t give you the goods.

But as corny as that film might be, it still holds but a dim candle to the cheesefest that is Underworld. Below might be my favourite scene.

I simply love the guy who plays the werewolf scientist (Erwin Leder). “Even at the cellular level, our species seemed destined to destroy each other!” Brilliant. His performance is spectacular. Flawless, you might say.

As is the work of the always wonderful Bill Nighy, playing here Viktor, the head of the vampires. He really saves the film with his onslaught of Shatnerian technique. He’s like a Shatninja who sneaks in halfway through the film to drop mad acting science on the truly atrocious Shane Brolly (who, incidentally, might be the best thing about this film).

Underworld gave us a lot to talk about. For instance werecats (personally, I’d want to turn into a Russian Fishing Cat) and Perfect Strangers. Which are sort of combined here in this fabulous video:

My passion for movies revived this week. I started to watch some TV series… Community, Lost [again], Smallville and The Good Wife.

Community is one of the best comedies produced this year, presenting a group of people from different social categories that end up in the same college. They are so different from each other, yet it seems they are meant to be friends and spend time together. Lots of funny situations and funny characters.

I’m sure you all know something about Lost, right? I just have to re-watch all the seasons till in february when the final season will be aired. Smallville is a little bit old but it has many seasons and episodes so, I just started watching it because I wanted to enjoy many hours on one Tv show.

And finally The Good Wife, it’s about the challenges that a lawyer can encounter in his/her career. It’s about a woman, mother and wife whose husband [ex-lawyer] is in prison because of a sex-tape that caused a big scandal. Because of this, his wife must struggle and fight for her image and reputation, dealing with all kinds of problems. It’s a very intensive drama and I like it.

Okay. This was just the TV series part. It was a long day today. I went to the movies with a friend to see Kate Beckinsale’s new movie “Whiteout”. I gotta admit: I love this chick. Maybe you remember her from Underworld I and II.

It was a cool movie…but the end sucked real hard. I mean all the action and mistery for just some 50 years old diamonds hidden beneath the ice? Ohh…ma bad..I never told you what the movie was about. It was about a murder that took place in a iced-deserted corner of Antartica. Kate is playing a marshall that deals with the possible murderer. Mistery, hidden personalities, dark secrets and a lot of ice and cold weather. But as I said the end of the movie was…not what I expected. Anyway, when I arrived home I wanted some more Beckinsale stuff and I’ve watched Vacancy.

First it seemed that it would be just another thriller with lots of scare the victim tactics. But after the clichee part was over [the engine of the car stops working] I realised that the movie was actually pretty good. Who though about placing some hidden cameras in the motel rooms and record all what’s happening there [murders and stuff like that]. It was a good movie.

Then I watched Vacancy II. Not the same actors but the same plot…only about the beginning of the shit. I truly had a movie day. Tommorow back to school so I should get some sleep…you know dreaming about writing a screen-play or something…zZzZzZzZzZzZzZz

Sinceramente, acho a Kate Beckinsale umas das atrizes mais bonitas de Hollywood. Mas, não esperava a vitória dela – com 50%, diga-se de passagem – essa semana. Apesar de ter achado o vestido lindo, eterno queridinho de um ombro só, não fiquei muito fã da cor. Acho que se fosse um fúcsia, de repente, ficaria perfect! Em compensação, que cabelo e make, hein? O olho preto esfumaçado esfumado (sorry, acontece!) e esse coque mais arrumadinho completaram perfeitamente o look.

The Shield was one of those acclaimed and beloved TV series that had its own audience for sure, but thanks to a spot on cable, didn’t exactly blow up into the mainstream the way it might have. But since the show has wrapped, at least, the people behind it have been moving on to even bigger things. John Hlavin, a writer for the series, has signed on to write the screenplay for the fourth Underworld film.

According to THR, Hlavin is pretty much the only person attached at this point. The director of the first two films, Len Wiseman, is so far only on board as a producer, and Kate Beckinsale– incidentally, the director’s wife– isn’t sure what she’s doing either.

Hlavin promised THR that “it’s not a prequel, and added, “It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.” Hlavin signing on probably means that things are moving forward on this film at last, so look for more news in the coming weeks.

“OMG!  Edward Cullen is so hot!  The Twilight books are like so amazing!  I would do anything to live in that world!  Did I mention how hot Edward Cullen is?”  If I just induced you to vomitus, my job is done.  Oh wait, no it’s not, because my job is to paint a picture of why the world would be better off without these “Twi-hards,” or as they should be know, “Twi-tards.”  The tween world is all abuzz with the opening of Twilight: New Moon today in theaters.  Teenage girls with their fellow obsessives, will be lining up today, ready to cut someone’s throat if they don’t get in to see the movie based on the second of Stephanie Meyer’s books.

I can get on board with the Trekkies, the Star Wars nerds, and even the Harry Potter dorks, because at least the worlds created in those sagas were imaginative and thought provoking.  This Twilight piece of shit on the other hand, is nothing more than an overly melodramatic “Romeo and Juliet” set amidst the world of teenage vampires.  Oh!  How novel!  The fact of the matter is that the world purported in “Twilight” doesn’t have anything going for it besides fairly attractive star crossed lovers.  Fuck this franchise!

The idea of vampires glowing in the daylight would be deemed universally retarded.
We wouldn’t have to endure the pussification of vampires at the hands of Stephanie Meyers.
The internet would be significantly faster without the Twi-hards refreshing every “Twilight” fan site every 30 seconds.
Hot Topic would have to file for Chapter 11 after the hit of no one buying “I Heart Edward Cullen” t-shirts anymore.
Shakespeare wouldn’t have to come back from the dead and bitch slap Stephanie Meyers for desecrating the sanctity of “Romeo and Juliet” with her unoriginal stories.
People would realize that if they want to watch vampires and werewolves fight, they should watch the Underworld movies.  They’re a lot more fun and you get Kate Beckinsale in black latex.

Do me a favor?  If you’re going to the multiplex this weekend, avoid New Moon like the plague.  And while you’re at it, avoid 2012, because god knows, that movie doesn’t deserve another fucking dollar.  If everyone in the entire world avoids going to see New Moon, maybe, just maybe, we can avoid the next 28 Twilight films that are already in pre-production.  Oh who am I kidding?  This movie is probably going to break some box office record for “most misunderstood tweens in a theater at the same time,” in addition to making buttloads of cash.  So go, you Twi-hards, stand in line for hours in your one size too big Twilight t-shirts, and have your mental orgasms as you watch your silly little movie.  Me?  I’d rather go watch Precious, a movie about an inner city black teen who gets impregnated by her father twice and is mercilessly abused by her mother.  Yeah, I’d rather watch that depressing piece of shit than New Moon.

But one has to have dreams right?

Some of those women are waaaaaaay too old to be there...for shame!

I consider this a coming of age film less for centering around kids which most coming of age films caress at the center even though this film does have teenage characters this is more of a coming of age film for the adults who populate this story it is a sobering story that shows that most of these characters in there own way need to grow up and are in the process of doing it.

The main story of annie and Glen are like two characters who populate a country song once in love and as they grow older seperate but find they need each other because the days of dreams are coming to a end and reality is hitting hardcore. I think there story will ring true with a lot of audience members as it is a story that is happening more and more in different cultures around the world.

The film just like it’s snowy scenery has a emotional coldness and stillness that adds a hovering cloud of doom and desperation that is a cloud that never leaves this film.

The True Revelation here is Kate Beckinsale I have never really seen her in a dramatic part before and she goes with full flying colors she is excellent especially in the quiet emotional moments she has as much talent as she has beauty. Not that the rest of the cast is weak it is surprising to see Amy Sedaris who I have only seen in comedies in a dramatic part for once it’s a nice change. Sam Rockwell is good but I have come so accustomed to seeing him do great in any role he has taken it’s just a given he is going to be excellent why he is not touted in the same great acting circles as Ryan Gosling and Leonardo Dicaprio is puzzling maybe because he is rarely in studio films and constantly is working in the independent film arena.

David Gordon Green continues his style as the modern equivalent to Terrence Malick as chronicler of small town American life and exposes more of the reality of the situations that characters find themselves in without overdoing it as much as mainstream cinema will allow. I mean he doesn’t make Mumblecore movie about hipsters or go with ultra realism as Kelly Richert director of old joy but he definatley has a original voice all his own when it comes to cinema he is a gifted director and this film isn’t a disappointment not as good as his previous work but a good standard 

I say rent but prepared it’s not a feel good film which makes it all the more realistic people don’t pay for being wrong or bad life just goes on nothing comes out the way you expect it too.

GRADE:  B-

Let me just start by saying that this letter is for your sake, not mine.  Yes, I am completely obsessed with you and have wasted upwards of $600 on ineffective pheromone colognes, but this is about what’s best for you.

Listen to me – do not date that teenage vampire.  I know he’s anatomically perfect and has that sexy aloof thing going, but he’s a fucking VAMPIRE.  You know, traditional enemy of humans?  And, yes, I’m aware that vampires are enemies of both humans and werewolves and that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, but in this case, the enemy of my enemy is a fucking VAMPIRE.

Do you really think you could start a family with this guy?  Have little half-human, half-vampire kids that cry cute little tears because they don’t have a pet, and then when you buy one, they immediately devour it?  I hope your name is on the mortgage application, as most lenders adhere to a pretty strict anti-vampire policy.

Have you heard stories about husbands that just disappear on their wife and kids?  Well, this guy can literally do that.  One second, you’re arguing the superiority of human composers to vampire composers, you drop a hateful special slur because you‘re losing the argument, and then his clothes drop to the kitchen floor in a puff of smoke.  A month later, you’re raking leaves in the yard and see a bat flying towards the pile.  You think it’s your husband, so you apologetically run to him, but it’s only a regular bat and it bites you right on your stupid fucking neck.

Let’s talk about the things you can’t do with this guy.  You could never go to the state fair and enjoy the fun house mirrors with him.  You could never watch a vampire movie without him criticizing every single detail of the film.  You could never eat a nice garlic shrimp at Red Lobster.  And, I don’t know about you, but that last one would be a deal-breaker for me.

As for the elephant in the room, I‘m just going to go ahead and say it: we both know it’s only a matter of time before this guy fucks Kate Beckinsale.  Guaranteed.  There’s no way you won’t find out about it, because he’ll be dropping hints all night after he gets home.  I mean, this guy was just inside of Kate Beckinsale, there’s no way he’s not talking about it.  After an hour of, “Do you remember that girl from Underworld,” and, “Do you remember that girl from Underworld: Evolution,” he’s going to drop the bomb.  It won’t take long before you’re in the bathroom with two slit wrists, which is great for him because, hey, free blood.

Не, не, не, не! Не! Цък, нъц, не ща! Пък!!! Ако се чудиш на какво се дължи този утринен изблик на крайни възмущения, любезно ще ти поясня: Тъй като ние сме медия от световна класа, сме задължени един вид да ви представяме кажи-речи всичко ново, което излиза на малък и голям екран, монитор, диск или за какъвто друг носител се сетиш. В конкретния случай става въпрос за второто и понеже беше крайно време да ме отмързи и да седна да напиша нещо, получаваш скромното ми мнение за това филмово малоумие, което, надявам се, не си имал още „щастието“ да се прецакаш да гледаш на кино.

Whiteout, драги читателю, е толкова потресаващо скучен, тъп, плосък и очевиден филм, че дори няма да мога да ти го оспойля подобаващо, просто защото сюжетът и действието са толкова мудни, че все едно гледаш филър (запълваща сцена – бел. ред.) на Дързост и Красота и всичко ти е ясно от 15-тата минута нататък. Защото, нека си го кажем честно, подобен сетинг и идея просто никога няма да успеят да ни покажат каквато и да е динамика, да не говорим за екшън или, не дай си Боже, смислен плот. Последният, апропо, се върти около Кейт Бекинсейл, която влиза в ролята на Кари Стетко – кука-шериф, самозаточила се на Южния полюс, защото партньорът й я е предал (опа, спойлер) и тя го е застреляла в мутрата. Шоцкинг! Въпросната мадама Стетко е на път да си пренесе циците на по-топло, когато все пак решава да направи малка огледна експедицийка с цел намирането на нередности, заровено съкровище или мъртво тяло, изхвърлено от самолет и наръгано с пикел в гърба. Така на целия този фон се появява мъртво тяло, изхвърлено от самолет и наръгано с пикел в гърба. Шоцкинг!!!

Оттук нататък започва стоминутният borefest, при който Кейт Бекинсейл, тук захвърлила вамприските зъби, кожените дрехи и високите обувки, и навлекла фешънска шуба с пухчета, търчи из първа, втора, трета станция, заровен под снега самолет и междустанцийни пространства, докато вали сняг и навън е много студено… уж. Проблемът, както вече разбра, е че всичко това се случва със скоростта на ледник, изкачващ баир, и е придружено с едни такива вяли разговори и реплики, че ти иде да се застреляш, заспиш или да си пуснеш нещо с повече темпо като документален филм за дърветата на National Geographic. Сцените са заснети ужасно и режисирани още по-гламаво. Няма никаква разлика дали Кейт Бекинсейл ще си взима душ или ще я преследват с катерачески пикел из руска станция. За сценарните недоумения и малоумщини пък не ми стигат думите да ги опиша. В смисъл, че американската станция на пръв поглед е като къща от роман за Хари Потър – уж средна по размери, но веднъж влезеш ли вътре, нещата изглеждат по съвсем друг начин. Лабораториите са по-големи от университетски такива, а стаята на нашата мадама е по-просторна от фоайе на банка. За сметка на това, руската станция със същите размери отвътре е разнебитено-картонена като барачката за инструменти на дядо в Шумен и очевидно построена с единствената цел да е мизерна и да вони на водка. И сериозно – стени от гипс-картон? На шибания Южен Полюс?! Русия отдавна не е толкова бедна държава, ебаси!

По някое време филмът ще те отведе то т. нар. екшън сцени, които, подобно на всичко останало, са правени през пръсти и без грам въображение. Dominic Sena, който по принцип не е чак толкова отчайващо бездарен режисьор и направил сравнително приятните (абе направо са си доста добри – бел. Ред.) Gone in 60 Seconds и Swordfish, тук имаш чувството, че просто е казал “Момчета, аз отивам за кафе, а вие си снимайте както ви дойде!”, а екипът в отговор свойски е решил да пръска изкуствен сняг там, където нещата не са се получили. А сняг не е като да няма. Така гореспоменатият “екшън” се изразява в гоненици покрай опънати въженца, докато се опитваш да различиш кой кого е изпод всичката виелица, сняг и скука. Най-ефектното нещо, забележи, е суркането на лошия тип по снега и удрянето му из подпорните колони на базата.

На другия полюс (филмов, не географски) пък са изключително фейспалмващите откъси, които са смукани не от пръсти, ами от паница свински ректуми и чифт конски ташаци, и са пълни с толкова много глупости, че ще откажеш да повярваш, че може да съществува толкова прост сценарий. Говорим си за неща като цялото времетраене, през което нашите пичове в заровения самолет с два погледа успяха да пресъздадат едно към едно въвеждащата сцена и да сътворят план за бягство изпод шест метра сняг и лед. И това са същите герои, чиято изконна гениалност ги е подтикнала да влязат ВСИЧКИТЕ до един в дълбока снежна дупка и да оставят въжето ОТВЪН, докато наоколо няма НИКОГО, който да ги спаси, ако ги затрупа сняг. Светкавично развитие на персонажи, няма спор. Джос Уидън да се засрами! В паузата между тези два типа сцени не се случва нищо различно от това Кейт Бекинсейл да се разкарва наляво-надясно и да си говори с тоя и оня като герой от роман на Робин Хоб…

Подобни простотии и некохерентни събития валят през две минути и наистина могат да те изкарат извън нерви. Ако не си заспал, разбира се, защото увисналата ми по мъртвешки ръка в кутията с пуканки определено ме караше да се съмнявам в жизнените си процеси. “По дяволите, няма ли това чудо край?” е въпросът, който със сигурност ще си зададеш няколко десетки пъти, докато накрая не ти се прииска да си прегризеш гърлото, за да не повръщаш в устата си от досада. “Плот”-”туистът” (явно тия две понятия нямат място в това безумно подобие на филм – бел. Ред.) идва като малко спасение, въпреки, че е по-очевиден от трол в детски басейн и по-малоумен от филм на Невелдайн и Тейлър. Кой би предположил, че лошите ще са двама от всичките пет героя с реплики? В смисъл, няма да е Кейт Бекинсейл (дох), нито негъра (‘щото ще е расистко) или пък агентчето (защото трябва поне още един добър герой, пък и пичът не се е климатизирал дори), така че внимавай много О_О!!! И естествено ще ми простиш този лек спойлер, защото съм длъжен да ти го кажа поради огромната вероятност да го проспиш или да изпаднеш в тежка кататония много преди да дойде.

В заключение – не гледай филма. Наистина! Ако ти се занимава с наистина малоумно кино, тази година ни предостави чудесни екземпляри и то в огромни количества, за да не се спреш точно на този.

Have you ever sat though a movie marathon of monster movies, with a werewolf?

There’s a theatre here in Brooklyn that’s running movie marathon sessions l of “monster movies”. Most people bring along sleeping bags and blankets and pillows and stuff and get really comfortable to watch these sessions.

The upcoming schedule has them playing a werewolf themed sessions.

You’ve got Silver Bullet, Teenwolf , Cursed, Wolf and an An American Werewolf in Paris on the bill for the early session.

I’ve yet to figure out if the owners of the movie house are doing this deliberately or not.
Or are aware of ‘goings on’ around Brooklyn.

New management, so possibly, they’re just naive.

Actually, now that I think about it, probably they do know what they’re doing because after next week, by the look of the upcoming schedule, they’re running vampire themed movies, like Lost Boys, Blade, Dracula, Day Watch and Night Watch in one session, I saw.

The midnight session we’re attending has, American Werewolf in London, Underworld rise of the Lycans, Twilight New Moon and Van Helsing.

I was outvoted by my friends who wanted to go to the second showing of werewolf movies, because, I quote “Hugh Jackman is hot even if the movie he’s in blows.”

I told Davey I thought he had a hair fetish for Hugh Jackman’s sideburns and said “You do realize Hugh Jackman is not a werewolf just because he’s played a character called wolverine.”

Davey told me to shut up and stop ruining his fantasy.

I questioned why any of my friends would subject themselves to the Twilight movie. As they were buying a movie marathon ticket for the full duration…luckily there are toilet breaks between movies. I might have to have one, that goes for 1 minute 80 seconds.

Again, it was Hugh Jackman to the rescue.

I was told that in order to see the three movies we wanted it would just be cheaper for us to buy full priced movie marathon tickets. I asked why we needed to see the first three movies, and was told in no uncertain terms “Classic, Kate Beckinsale in PVC – Hello, and Hugh Jackman, nuff said.”

Like that explained everything I needed to know about my easily persuaded and pervy, furball friends.

There are some ladies who always get it right.  And then there’s Kate who either always wears the same thing or mixes it up rarely, but to bad effect.  There’s nothing inherently wrong with this look but it’s very Spokesmodel category.  And that’s even without addressing the gloomy color.  At an event a few nights later, she looks younger, more creative and fun – even while she’s in black.  Diagnosis:  Fashion schizophrenia.  Prescription:  Repeat mantra “fashion should be fun” until you believe it.

So MTV ran this interesting poll, in which the fans vote for who they would desire to don the black leather cat suit for the Dark Knight follow-up. Taking top honors is Underworld beauty Kate Beckinsale. The fans chose wisely. Here’s a glimpse of the poll:

CNN’s Anderson Cooper will be host of “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute.”

CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” returns to the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Thanksgiving night, as the network celebrates its third year of honoring everyday people making a difference.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper hosts the star-studded gala, which will be seen around the world on November 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the global networks of CNN.

 

The telecast shines a spotlight on the extraordinary accomplishments of the Top 10 CNN Heroes, who were selected by a distinguished Blue Ribbon Panel. Each of this year’s honorees will receive $25,000 in recognition of their work.

The show culminates with the announcement of the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year, who will receive an additional $100,000. Voting to select the Hero of the Year is being conducted through an online poll at CNN.com/Heroes, ending November 19 (6 a.m. ET)

Performers and presenters scheduled to appear at this year’s tribute show will be announced in the coming weeks.

Last year’s show included appearances by Hugh Jackman, Salma Hayek, Cameron Diaz, Forest Whitaker, Meg Ryan, Terrence Howard, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale and Lucy Liu, with performances by Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys and John Legend.

Wow scary it’s Friday the 13th. I hope I don’t slip on a banana peel or lose my diary. That would be horrible. Even worse would be if I didn’t make the football team or get asked to the dance by that guy with the skinny jeans. Yeah… this is how you people sound when you complain about it being Friday the 13th.

To put all of you at ease with the date I’m going to post something I should have posted over a month ago. Someone sent it to me and I totally forgot to post it so I felt kind of bad. It’s a video shoot that Esquire did with my future baby momma Kate Beckinsale getting naked and rolling around on a stove in a chinchilla coat. She also wears heels in pool – how fucking wacky is that? This woman is so crazy she doesn’t care how wet her shoes get. Yeah so watch it because it’ll be the hottest thing you see today (well except for maybe these Leighton Meester pics we posted earlier) and forgive me for not posting it sooner.
