Read the arguments from Sports Geek and Bleacher Fan about which movies they believe are the best sports movie of all-time, and the must-buy for those seeking gifts for a sports fan on Black Friday and beyond!

This feel-good story came out in the fall of 2000 and was a big blockbuster at the box office. It stars Denzel Washington as head coach Herman Boone and co-stars Will Patton as coach Bill Yoast. It should also be noted that future stars Kate Bosworth and Ryan Gosling had small roles in this movie. Based on a true story, it takes place in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971 after the integration of an all-white high school and an all-black high school.

During my sophomore year in college my roommates and I watched this movie throughout the month of August to satisfy our craving and need for football. Being so close to high school at that time, we could all relate to the football aspect of the story.

It is quite amazing to see this team grow, from watching the players bond at camp to seeing the problems continue to exist back in the real world of high school. One of the star player’s girlfriends did not approve of his friendship with his black teammate. The white coach’s job has been taken by a black coach. Heck, it has a coach’s daughter who is very passionate about the game of football (why can’t Loyal Homer meet one of those girls?). It has the typical high school drama. It has hard hitting football. It has a great soundtrack. It has everything a guy could want in a sports movie.

For me it showcases one of my favorite pastimes… high school football. I am on the record saying I absolutely love high school football. This film showcases the growing pains and camaraderie of the players as they chase the state championship that they eventually win. T.C. Williams High actually finishes the year ranked second in the nation, behind a team from Valdosta, Georgia, which was featured on The Sports Debates a couple of months ago.

I will agree that Hollywood definitely spruces up the story of what actually happened. If you have seen the movie, you know that the Titans score a touchdown at the end to win the championship. In reality, that is not the case as they win the state championship 27-0, holding their opponent to minus five total yards, which is quite impressive. Despite the literary license, I still love this movie and certainly hope that a special someone gets it for me today!

Kate Bosworth & Diane Kruger always get it right. They don’t go too wild with their choices but still always keep it fresh, classy and not so conventional. I absolutely love their taste in style. Tell me if you enjoy it as well!

Alex esteve na festa “Homens do Ano” no Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont. Ele estava acompanhado novamente pela  Kate Borsworth.

15- Superman Returns, Bryan Singer, 2006

Il problema con i film di SuperMan è che gli si fa solo spostare-evitare-aggiustare-modificare oggetti inanimati e mai gli si lascia la libertà mollare due ceffoni. E dire che Supes nella sua carriera fumettistica non si è risparmiato in ceffoni.
Nonstante ciò (Do you know Bizarro? Mongul?…etc) nei film il suo unico grande avversario è sempre e comunque (con dovute ma anche risibili eccezioni) una pietra colorata. Non si parte benissimo.

SuperMan alla fine agisce come una gru blu e rossa. Un film in cui non fa altro che sollevare qualcosa.

I grandi avversari e sfide di SuperMan in SM Returns:

Solleva aerei, globi di metallo e donne in carriera (senza provocare upskirt)!

Naturalmente anche il gran finale del film è costituito da una scena in cui SuperMan solleva qualcosa, in questo caso una Capri di Kryptonite.

Tutto questo senza fare riferimenti all’irritantissime storie sul figlioletto di Superman (mai bambino fu più irritante) e su Lois che si spupazza Ciclope.

14- X-Men: Conflitto Finale, Brett Ratner, 2006

Mentre Bryan Singer era alle prese con il sollevatore di ferro di cui sopra, le redini del terzo e atteso film sui nostri mutanti prefe di sempre, passa nelle manone tozze di Brett Ratner. Il regista di tanti video di Mariah Carey, colui che ha rovinato la carriera di Jackie Chan in terra americana, ce la mette tutta per girare un film all’altezza dei primi due. Sfortunatamente le ambizioni del film si scontrano e si sfracellano contro una sceneggiatura orribile, attori costretti a dire a fare delle cose che li rendono stupidi (il povero Hank McCoy per esempio qui ne esce malissimo) e un regista che giustamente adesso fa i video per Miley Cirus. Si riesce nella difficile impresa di buttare in vacca tutta, TUTTA, la Saga della Fenice Nera. Il bambino “cura” Cameron Bright fa venire voglia di invadere la Polonia. Unica cosa notevole: l’inseguimento tra la nostra amata Kitty Pride (interpretata da Ellen Page) e il grande Vinnie Jones aka Jaggernaut (il Fenomeno in italiano). Infatti…

13 – La Leggenda degli Uomini Straordinari, Stephen Norrington, 2003.

Già dal titolo si capiscono un paio di cose: dagli Straordinari Gentiluomini del libro di Moore, siamo passati ai ben più ordinari Uomini Straordinari di Norrington. Per la cronaca, il nome completo di questo straordinario cretino è Stephen Norrington. Che a confronto Stephen Sommers è Otto Preminger. Ci si nasconde dietro a un “liberamente tratto” per non incappare in denunce da parte di Alan Moore . il quale ovviamente si è tenuto lontano da questa mega cazzata – e poter poi fare di testa propria. Con la simpatica conseguenza di aver rovinato uno dei racconti metaletterari più divertenti e intelligenti degli ultimi anni. Oltre ad aver aggiunto ad cazzum due personaggi come Tom Sawyer e Dorian Gray, si brancola nel buio cercando di trovare almeno una storia da raccontare. Con scarsissimi risultati. Sean Connery col toupé ai minimi storici. I soldi per gli effetti speciali devono essere finiti dopo i primi tre giorni di produzione per cui, dopo una sequenza iniziale con almeno un po’ di verve (leggi: qualche esplosione), il resto sembra brutta televisione. Una nota per coloro che hanno curato l’edizione italiana: Graphic Novel non si traduce Novella Grafica (perché io ve lo giuro, nei titoli di testa c’è scritto così…). Dovreste ridarci i soldi. O almeno la decenza di cambiare lavoro.

Before the 1920s women wore make-up but were much more reserved in their application, however when the 20s hit so did their cosmetic freedom of expression. In its rawest form, make-up from this era did not evoke much variety, but it was the stars of the silent movies such as Louse Brooks (below) that provided the inspiration for porcelain-white skin, bee-sting red lips with a highly defined cupids bow and blackened eyes. So far, it all sounds wonderful, but when you think of the ingredients of these cosmetics it is incredible what lengths the ladies would go to.

Mascara in its earliest incantation was melted wax that was applied to the lashes. The ‘kohl’ in the eye make-up consisted of either soot, lead or goose grease that was deeply smudged into the socket area to create the ‘vamp’ look. The powder to even out the skin tone was made up of rice powder in its palest form, and there was little variety in the shade of lipstick, with a red stain for all. I can’t wait to embrace all of the above (with modern products of course) however if I was to truly adhere to the era I would need to pluck my eyebrows painfully thin, drawing them in higher on my face, which just feels like a step too far!

I adore the glamour of the 20s, and cannot wait for the opportunity to relive it, if only for one night. It seems like modern women do not have the time, nor perhaps the inclination to express themselves through make-up as they once did, opting for the more natural look on a daily basis. Although of course it must be celebrated that we do now have more choice about whether we actually want to or not.

L’attrice Kate Bosworth ricorda per alcuni versi Gwineth Paltrow: bionda, elegante e filiforme. Forse per questo motivo, il frontman dei Coldplay Chris Martin nonché marito della Paltrow ha trascorso del tempo con la collega più giovane della moglie. Secondo Star Magazine la crisi tra Martin e la Paltrow ormai si sarebbe fatta seria tanto che il cantante trascorre molto tempo con l’attrice più giovane. Qualche mese fa avrebbe persino detto alla moglie che la Bosworth gli ricorderebbe la Paltrow quando era più giovane, senza contare che i due – Martin/Bosworth – sono stati visti molto affiatati di recente a un concerto degli U2. Sempre secondo Star Magazine la Paltrow sarebbe molto sospettosa dei flirt del marito che sembra aver preso coscienza del fatto che essere una pop star attira ammiratrici e quindi ne starebbe approfittando un po’ troppo.
