Estoy sorprendido y con sentimientos encontrados respecto a Terminator Salvation, o T4 pa’ los cuates…

Para quienes no hayan visto la historia, les cuento que está ubicada en un 2018 (es la primera cinta de las que se han hecho, que no está ambientada en la época actual: la 1 se ambientaba en 1984, la 2 en 1992, la 3 en 2003) donde, como cita T3, Skynet ya se apropió del mundo y se dedica única y exclusivamente a cazar y exterminar humanos. John Connor, interpretado por Christian “sagas” Bale, es un sujeto que ya tiene alrededor de 35 años y que es líder de un grupo de la “resistencia” o ejército salvador de la raza humana, además de que carga consigo la enorme piedra de que es considerado como el profeta que llevará al buen camino a los humanos y a la destrucción a las máquinas. Su esposa Kate Brewster (que ahora ya no es rubia) está embarazada y es la doctora de su equipo de soldados. Los terminators son rudimentarios, no tanto como en T3, pero sí son incapaces de matar a un humano con un simple balazo, tienen mala puntería, no están cubiertos por tejido humano y, eso sí, los hay de distintos tamaños: peces, motos y hasta tamaño holly-shit. El centro de la película son dos aspectos:

1. Kyle Reese, padre de John Connor, y figura que viaja al pasado en T1 para salvar a Sarah Connor de su exterminio, hace su aparición aquí como un adolescente criado entre los escombros de la guerra nuclear. John Connor se da cuenta de la importancia de que su padre viva, para que cuando viaje al pasado, sea capaz de salvar a su madre y él pueda nacer, así que hace todo por encontrarlo y protegerlo.

2. Marcus Wright, un asesino condenado a muerte que, para obtener la redención, dona su cuerpo a Skynet para experimentos científicos y termina por convertirse en el primer terminator con tejido humano, pero con sentimientos, ya que él, a diferencia del T800 interpretado por Arnold Schwarzenegger, tiene corazón y cerebro humano, además de que no es programado para exterminar. Se convierte en esta cinta en un “ayudante” de John Connor para cuidar a Kyle Reese.

La cinta, como tal, creo que ha sido mal tratada por la crítica mundial sin mucha razón. A mi juicio es una película bien lograda, aunque con sus errores, sobre todo cronológicos. No le llega a los talones a T1 o a T2, pero sin duda es mucho, pero muchísimo mejor que T3. Yo podría decir que es una cinta que tiene muy bien definido a qué público quiere conquistar: a los fans. Es como las películas basadas en cómics, las mejor logradas sin duda han sido aquellas donde los fans quedan satisfechos (como Iron Man o Batman Begins) contra aquellas donde buscan agradar a las masas (como los 4 fantásticos o Spiderman). Cosas como:

• Kyle Reese diciendo “come with me if you want to live”

• John Connor exclamando: “i’ll be back”

• La aparición de la canción “you could be mine” de Guns And Roses, que fuera tema de T2.

• Una batalla entre un humano y un terminator en una fábrica.

• La escena de una persecución entre un camión y una moto, donde la moto aparece desde un puente y cae al suelo.

• La musicalización industrial estilo T2.

• Y, por supuesto, la aparición de Arnold Schwarzenegger (aunque digital) como el T800 mientras suena de fondo el tema principal de Terminator…

Todo eso lo hace una cinta creada para los fans, la cronología está pensada incluso con ése fin (aún con sus errores a destacar)…

Pero justo aquí es donde comienzan los problemas que tiene la cinta, y si no la han visto, les pido que dejen de leer hasta aquí, o si deciden seguir, que sea bajo su propio riesgo porque mencionaré cosas torales en la historia:

El diseño del T800 con tejido humano está basado en el Schwarzenegger de 1984, por lo que se contrató al, curiosamente, fisicoculturista austriaco Roland Kickinger para que fuera el “doble de cuerpo” de Arnold y, en postproducción, se le agregó el rostro del “governator” creado digitalmente. Para los ojos no entrenados, esto puede verse bien, pero para los que ya sabemos más acerca de estos temas, no podemos dejar de reírnos de los errores que se les fueron, siendo el más evidente el color de ojos, es decir, basta ver esta imagen para darse cuenta de lo “animado” que se ve Arnold:

También es digno de preguntarse: si John Connor envía a su padre al pasado para proteger a su madre, y Kyle Reese tiene alrededor de 18 años en el 2018… ¿cuánto tiempo se supone que pasa desde que acaba T4 hasta que Reese ya es adulto y viaja en el tiempo? ¿Unos 10 años? Entonces quiere decir que, si en el 2018 ya existían los T800 con tejido humano… ¿Skynet no avanzó tecnológicamente nada en esos 10 años, o por qué mandan al mismo T800 a asesinar a Sarah Connor?, ¿El t1000 (interpretado por Robert Patrick en T2) tardó 20 años en construírse? Se me hace un poco absurdo, más bien el error fue meter a Arnold Schwarzenegger con calzador en esta cinta, cronológicamente es algo incorrecto.

Otro aspecto importante a destacar es que, aunque T3 no fue una buena cinta, sí usan elementos también de esta para la historia de la 4: los T800 funcionan con base en células nucleares; Kate Brewster sigue existiendo y es la esposa de John Connor; Sarah Connor sigue muerta y lo único que queda de ella es una foto (la que sacan en T1) y grabaciones donde ella le habla a John acerca de cómo son los terminators; los T100, esos armatostes que usa el ejército y que funcionan como el primer prototipo de exterminador, hacen una breve aparición.

Bien por el hecho de que Kyle Reese estuviera encerrado en una celda donde no pudo ver la existencia del T800, lo que explica el por qué en T1, cuando viaja al pasado, no reconoce al terminator hasta que intenta matar, literalmente, a Sarah Connor. Del mismo modo, me parece interesante el hecho de que los exterminadores no matan a TODOS los humanos, capturan a algunos, pero el problema con esto es que quien no es fan no entiende que no los matan porque los usan como esclavos, para hacer la chamba que los terminators no quieren hacer como: recoger cadáveres.

Mal por la “sorpresa” que se lleva John Connor de encontrarse con un terminator con tejido y órganos humanos… o sea, si él ya había convivido en persona con 2 exterminadores T800, ¿no era natural que los primeros experimentos de Skynet fueran con un humano-cyborg? También mal por el presupuesto ilimitado con que contaba “la resistencia”, o sea, estallan como 3 helicópteros en esta cinta y no se inmutan, ¿de dónde sacaban siquiera medios de transporte? Y pésimo por la manera tan fácil en la que John Connor entra a las instalaciones de Skynet que, se supone, estaban resguardadas por terminators malditos. Si la intención era matarlo y ya se sabía que iba a ir ahí, ¿por qué no simplemente monitorear las posibles entradas y dispararle en el momento preciso? ¡Ah! Y hay una cosa aún peor de todo lo anterior: John Connor logra escapar de una explosión nuclear con un helicóptero, ¿acaso no tenía idea del concepto del PEM (pulso electromagnético)?

Otra cosa que muchos no entienden es el por qué los terminators usan a Kyle Reese como carnada para atrapar a John Connor si se supone que Skynet no sabía que él era su padre, y la respuesta es más que sencilla: porque Marcus, el terminator-humano, tiene un cerebro que transmite lo que sus ojos ven a las computadoras de Skynet, así que cuando John Connor le muestra su interés por recuperar a Reese de las celdas resguardadas por los terminators, estos pueden intuír que es importante para él, por eso es el único de los humanos al que no se le abre la puerta cuando ha liberado a los demás.

Como dato curioso, quiero también comentar que Christian Bale originalmente fue invitado a hacer el papel de Marcus Wright, pero como bien sabemos, él es medio diva, así que insistió en que si iba a estar en esta película, sería sólo con el papel de John Connor. Los productores le concedieron su deseo, pero cuando Bale leyó el guión completo (el original), se quejó amargamente de que su papel era muy pequeño, por lo que hizo berrinche para que le dieran más protagonismo. El guión se reescribió por completo y como quedó es como lo vemos ahora en los cines. Casi casi se repite la historia después de que en 1984, James Cameron audicionó a Arnold Schwarzenegger para el papel de Kyle Reese pero cuando vio su físico, de inmediato le insistió en que mejor fuera el T800 al darse cuenta de que todo el público le creería sin problema que podría ser una máquina por dentro.

En fin, esta es mi visión de la cinta como un gran fan que soy. Crecí viendo todas las películas de Terminator, casi me las sé de memoria y me considero parte de una generación que le tiene un gran aprecio a toda la cultura que James Cameron generó, casi casi sin quererlo, en 1984. Me muero por ver qué historia se van a inventar en T5, quizá haya posibilidad de ver mi sueño dorado: el regreso de Robert Patrick en una cinta de Terminator, como el T1000. Terminator salvation, al menos, me dejó un buen sabor de boca, después de bajas expectativas que tenía cuando me enteré que McG (director de los bodrios de Charlie’s Angels 1 y 2) sería el que encabezaría la producción.

A couple nights ago I was reading some old Terminator Salvation reviews because I was up late and bored and decided I’d finally get around to writing my own critique of the movie. The reason I’m even writing this review now even though the movie came out months ago is because I didn’t have a wordpress at the time the movie came out and this is the movie I was most looking forward to this summer. I’m a huge fan of the Terminator series. T1 and especially T2 were some of the greatest sci-fi movies of our time. Even T3 wasn’t so bad, even though it completely shit on the ending of T2. So when I saw the first teaser for Terminator Salvation (I’ll call it TS from now on) during the previews for The Dark Knight, I was super excited. I was a little worried when I heard McG (directed those amazingly horrible Charlie’s Angels films) would be directing the film, but seeing Christian Bale cast as The John Connor and seeing some of the footage from the movie, I had a lot of hope that this would be the movie to bring the Terminator franchise back. Boy was I wrong…

There were so many things wrong with this movie and I want to try to hit every one of them, but before I do that I’ll talk about the things I liked first. The last 15 minutes of the movie were pretty intense and the part of the movie I liked the most. From when John Connor is lured into Skynet headquarters to the cameo by Arnie and the final battle between the T-800 and Marcus Wright, I loved it all. Seeing Arnie back in Terminator for that brief moment, even though it wasn’t really him, but a CGI rendering on another body, brought goosebumps.Also there were a lot of cute little nods to the previous movies that were pretty decent such as:

• Seeing the T-800 back in action.
• Seeing the T-800 slowly walking up the steps chasing John Connor, a nod to T1 when it was chasing Kyle Reese up the steps.
• Sarah Connar giving John Connor advice through casette tapes.
• A chase scene involving motorcyles and a truck just like in T2 except with the roles reversed.
• Kyle Reese debuting on screen with his patented “come with me if you want to live.”
• John Connor hacking into skynet with a key card similar to how he hacks into things when he was a little boy in T2.
• How John Connor got his famous scar.
• Even the famous ”I’ll be back” line was incorporated where it made sense, although it did come off cheesy in my theater.

All of these homages to the past movies showed that the film makers did atleast care about the franchise. Other things I liked were Sam Worthington’s performance as Marcus Wright. As a whole the character of Marcus Wright was a real wild card to the franchise and made a lot of sense. Anton Yelchin’s performance as Kyle Reese was really good as well, there should have been more character development for him which I’ll get to later b/c he did a great job in the short time he had on screen. The film was also wonderfully shot, and the world did look like it had been through a nuclear holocaust. Now onto what I didn’t like.

Where should I start? I think the main reason this movie was so disappointing was the fact that it had so much potential to be great. Themes were touched upon in this movie, that if expanded, could have really helped make this movie a lot better. The theme about humans being different than machines because we have a heart and that we bury our own dead and don’t make cold, calculated decisions when it comes to human life could have been expanded so much more. Those themes could have carried this movie. When John Connor is arguing with General Ashdown about having a rescue mission into Skynet because there are human prisoners, THAT should have been a poignant moment. Instead this theme is briefly touched upon and feels forced at the end when Marcus Wright gives his human heart to John Connor, and he talks about the difference between us and machines.

Another theme that should have been explored is the fact that this movie should been John Connor’s rise to become the leader of the human resistance. This is the movie that should have showed that character arc. This has been prophesized since before he was even born, yet in the movie it’s clear to me that the original screen writers weren’t planning on even touching on this fact until Christan Bale finally signed on to become John Connor. Even with the script re-writes, not enough focus was placed on John Connor. This should be HIS MOVIE. Instead Connor is portrayed as this hard-nosed tough guy who everyone follows because he’s the only one with access to a radio. That’d be great until you consider the fact that this is unbelievable because in the past two movies and mostly notably T3, the most recent movie before this one, John Connor’s is portrayed as a scared ass pussy who wants nothing to do with his pre-ordained role as a leader and a prophet. John Connor is one of the most intriguing characters in all of sci-fi as this is a man who is almost Jesus like in that he knows exactly what is going to happen in the future. He knows that he is the only man that can save the human race from extinction. He knows that he has to rise up and become the leader of the human resistance as no other man will be able to do what he can. That is why Skynet has wanted him dead in these past few movies. Yet none of this is touched upon in TS. How does a man deal with all this pressure? How does John Connor finally react knowing that this is his time to rise and its now or never? Shit, he even has a freakin’ baby coming into this world. His wife is pregnant, yet that isn’t even mentioned throughout the entire movie.  These are all plot points that could have and should have been focused in TS. This movie should have been as much a character study on the rise of John Connor and him embracing his destiny, but b/c of how he is portrayed, we don’t even give a shit about the man when’s he’s on his deathbed and in my case, we want Marcus Wright’s character to keep living instead.

This is getting long-winded, but a couple other points I wanted to briefly touch on were the lack of character development, the terrible editing, plot inconsistancies and very uninspired score. The lack of character development is huge here. The only character that gets fully developed is Marcus Wright. Kyle Reese should have had more screen time. Kate Connor played by Bryce Dallas Howard, like I mentioned earlier, is the wife of John Connor and is probably a good 7 to 8 months pregnant, but probably has 5 lines in the whole movie. Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams is a useless character and seems to be thrown in hastily to just give Marcus Wright a love interest. Common as Barnes barely says anything and no one really gives a shit about him. Did you know his brother was killed by the machines early in the movie? Didn’t think so. I could go on and on, but the main reason I see for this problem is the terrible editing. This movie abruptly cuts from scene to another with no rhyme or reason which makes the story or what you’re suppose to focus on hard to follow. It’s obvious to me that a lot of material was left on the editing floor. Rumor has it that atleast 30 minutes of footage was cut from the film. Shit if you watch the 2 trailers that came out, you will notice scenes in the trailers that aren’t in the movie. This is unexcusable. Next, are the plot inconsistencies:

• How does a huge Harvestor just sneak up on people at a gas station?
• Why does this world have no laser guns and look nothing like the blue-tinted world shown in the previous Cameron films?
• Why do the moto-terminators have seats and pedals if they are used by only machines?
• Why would Skynet introduce a wildcard such as Marcus Wright into the equation knowing that he has a human brain?
• Why and how does Skynet know about the futures of Kyle Reese and John Connor? Reese is suppose to be sent back in time to inpregnate Sarah Connor in the past, but Skynet shouldn’t know about either Reese or Connor’s importance since this is supposedly a new future. They would have no idea how important either of these two men could be, yet in this film Skynet has them marked as number 1 and 2 on the hit list.
• Why doesn’t Sknyet just kill Kyle Reese when they have him? Same with John Connor.
• We saw in T2 that Terminators can be killed by liquid metal, yet this one in TS is seemingly in destructible and gets covered in liquid metal, yet keeps on ticking.

Lastly, the score by Danny Elfman is just awful. It provide the movie with no extra energy or boost and is just plain boring. They should have the iconic Terminator theme during the beginning and end credits, but instead stuck a soundtrack on there that no one will remember.

If I’m being harsh on this movie and ranting, it’s because this was the movie I had been anticipating for almost a year. The Terminator franchise is one of the best and deserved much better than this. Because of the movie, I doubt there will be any sequels in the near future. And that is a shame.

”Divertidamente explosivo”

Não, Não e Não… ta tudo errado, não com o filme, mas com as opiniões que tenho visto por ai, opiniões nada diversificadas, o que me leva a crer que as pessoas estão indo com o que os outros falam. ‘Eu faço parte da resistência’ , da minoria que defende o filme ‘O Exterminador do Futuro : A Salvação’, desses malucos que insistem se prender ao passado e vêem de tudo, motivo para comparações.

Eu já havia dito e vou dizer de novo, ‘eu sou a única esperança que você tem’, porque eu sou o crítico mais próximo da opinião pública, aquele que aceita blockbusters numa boa, aquele que não fica melando com dramas, aquele que assiste High School Musical, Crepúsculo, Jonas Brothers e essas coisas de marica, não sou aquele nerd chato que quer procurar qualquer erro para fazer dele uma novela, por isso, ‘venha comigo se quiser viver’, porque aqui eu dou meu relato sem medo de dizer que me diverti num filme pop e o achei necessário, afinal, o que seria do cinema sem os blockbusters?!, portanto sem mais enrolações, so tenho a dizer que o Exterminador 4 é um filmão com cara de sábado no cinema.

Ta legal que em partes concordo com os caras, McG é inferior a James Cameron que dirigiu o primeiro e o segundo, Os roteiristas tropeçam em algumas cenas, Bale não convence dizendo a frase ‘I’ll be back’, (não por ser do ‘Swazazazeneger’, mas pelo contexto forçado do momento), Bale não tem um carisma legal em seus papeis, e pra piorar sempre contracena com coadjuvantes que por vez revelam-se melhores do que ele, e por fim, um filme que infelizmente se foca muito nos efeitos especiais e acaba se concentrando menos em detalhes da história, mas o filme tem suas justificativas, vindo de um diretor que recentemente dirigiu ‘As Panteras Detonando’ isso aqui ta demais, sem deixar de mencionar que depois de ‘T3’ ninguém mais quis pegar essa bagaça pra tocar pra frente de tanto medo, então dane-se ate o James Cameron que resolveu abandonar o que começou… (falo mermo).

Agora vale o ingresso por diversas qualidades, os já tão mencionados, Efeitos especiais, as grandiosas e diversas sequências de ação, o uso de elementos clássicos do primeiro e segundo filme, Os efeitos Sonoros que já tiram ‘Transformers’ das novidades, a fotografia apocalíptica super, A aparição do governador da Califórnia, sim o ‘Swazazaneguer’, os personagens estilosos e carismáticos , (não muito pelo Bale), e novamente pelas cenas de ação, que sempre começam com um ‘…’ e terminam com ‘BuUuMmM’.

Vale ressaltar que terminator salvation inicia uma nova trilogia que deve se completar brevemente, então, que venha o próximo…

PS 1 : T3 não é tão ruim quanto dizem, parece que agora virou moda falar mal do filme (so o John Connor que ta um naipe).
PS 2 : Não tenho nada contra o Christian Bale…eu acho.

I just got back from Terminator: Salvation. The quick review? I thought it was pretty good. Better than Terminator 3, probably worth seeing in theatres, but not completely stellar.

For fans of the other movies, this movie is very faithful to the previous ones. It has many little references to them, and not just in a throwaway Indy 4 kinda way. It manages to get in all the important terminator ideas, shots, and lines. The plot fits nicely with the other Terminator films as well, even with Terminator 3. In fact, it might actually improve Terminator 3 a little bit, offering a bit of legitimacy to it.

I was concerned when I first saw Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese in the previews. After seeing the movie, he did a pretty decent job of it, but I still would have cast someone else. Perhaps if there are more movies planned in the future we will see him grow further into the character from the first film. Bryce Dallas Howard is given VERY little to do as Kate Connor. Her character seems as if it was cut down in the editing process or something. Honestly, I was surprised to see Christian Bale do a kind of mediocre performance as the adult John Connor. It might have been the writing of his character, but he didn’t seem to be all that important until the very end. Even then, Bale has done much better work.

The special effects are kick ass… more kick ass than I expected. I rarely spend much time talking about special effects these days, figuring that most movies with a budget have the “good special effects” label attached to them already, but the effects in this were great. The robotic Terminators have never looked better and the Terminator makeup effects were fantastic as well. They introduce a couple new Terminator models, as they always do. They are quite cool, and quite consistent in style with the other Terminators we’ve seen so far. As many of you probably know, there is a cameo from the ol’ model 101 Arnold Terminator using CG. It looks better than The Rock at the end of The Mummy Returns, but they wisely don’t depend on this effect for very long.

Let’s briefly talk about the bad things. The script isn’t outright bad, but it doesn’t really break new ground like the first two movies do. It’s thematically consistent with the other films, but the actual story of the movie hits some pretty well worn science fiction territory. My one Terminator super nerd complaint was that they gave SkyNet a face and voice at one point in the movie, whereas I believe it should remain a faceless and unknowable enemy. Still, giving SkyNet some lines was required in order to get across a few of the plot points late in the movie, so I don’t know how else they would have done it.

I am kinda left wondering if the movie would have been better or worse had the trailer and all the promo material NOT revealed that Marcus is a Terminator. The movie is totally worth seeing, most likely in theatres, but it won’t replace T1 or T2 anytime soon. Did we really expect it to though?

With Terminator: Salvation in theaters now, are viewers going to love it or hate it? Well the truth is that this is a good movie. The cinematography is beyond belief and the action is extreme like any other Terminator movie. One thing was the acting was alright at times but sometimes just not all too good. But anyways I enjoyed the movie alot, though some dissapointments.  Watch Trailer

Quoi de mieux pour commencer ce long week end qu’une nouvelle bande annonce, de quatre minutes quand même, du film le plus attendu de cet été par… moi ?

Et voici encore une affiche et plus les affiches passent et plus on voit que le film n’est pas que centré que sur John Connor mais bien que John et Marcus ont chacun une place importante dans l’histoire, en gros on a deux héros.

Sinon la présence d’Arnold Schwarzennegger pour faire un caméo dans le fillm, serait bien confirmer. Maintenant à savoir sous quelle formecela reste un mystére?

Plus le marketing avance et donc plus on s’approche de la sortie du film ( normal quoi) et plus les affiches sont terribles. Je trouve celle la terrible, une affiche que j’aurai bien aimer avoir etant p’tiot dans ma chambre, même si rien ne m’empéche de le faire ^^.

Ah! il y à aussi la comfirmation comme quoi Linda Hamilton, la célébre sarah Connor, fera bien une participation dans le film, semblerai t’il qu’elle ferait la naratrice au début comme pour Terminator 2.

Voici un nouveau poster qui même si il est dessiner ( d’ailleur j’ai cru que c’etait un fake au début), il reste dans l’ambiance apocalyptique du film.

Voici donc un poster qui représente John Connor dans une pose guérriére. Par contre ce poster me semble assez faiblar par rapport à ce qui c’est fait avant, en fait je crois que c’est la couleur de fond que j’aime pas. On dirait un poster pour G.I Joe.

Et bien effectivement c’est un poster pour la sortie de la figurine de john connor chez Hot Toys.

Figurine trés réaliste, d’une trentaine de centimétres de haut,qui nous changera des immondices que je vous avait monter il y a quelques semaines.

Voici donc une de ces banniéres en carton que l’on trouve dans les halls de cinéma. C’est pas mal mais sans plus, j’aurai préférer une plus sombre.

Par contre pour ceux qui cherche la musique de la bande annonce c’est The day The World Went Away de Nine Inch Nails

J’attendai cette seconde bande-annonce en éspérant un truc sympa et bien c’est au dessus de ça. C’est un gros truc bien badass, une putain de tuerie.

Une bande annonce digne de ce nom ce doit dêtre regarder en HD super-méga-giga résolution et c’est par ici que ça ce passe => ICI

Earlier today a Japanese trailer leaked for Terminator Salvation. Well now Warner Bros has released the Official second domestic trailer for the film, and its an extremely different cut.
