Hi –

I’m going to keep my post short and sweet today (primarily because I have been doing an insurmountable amount of homework this weekend)!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 6th is Election Day in the United States of America. My post is a reminder to get out there and exercise your right as a citizen to vote and elect who runs the country for the next 4 years.

Whatever your opinions or presidential preference, as women, let’s honor the work, blood, sweat and tears of feminists before us who risked their lives to make sure we could show up tomorrow!

Love you girlies and CAN’T WAIT for our glorious reunion in just 11 days!!!!! (Ismete, you will be there in spirit!).

By now you’ve probably heard that Kanye West was a special guest at this year’s Q-Tip headlined Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival. What a lovely surprise. A short Kanye set for 15 bucks? Can’t beat that.

My friends and I were some of the chosen few that knew Kanye was one of the special guests for Tip’s set (along with Monie Love, Black Thought and Busta) so we were able to physically prepare ourselves for the mayhem that would result from his strolling on stage.

What I wasn’t prepared for was the male groupiedom that took place as Ye went into the crowd to do part of a verse.

Now, I am a fan (not necessarily of Ye, but in general, I am a fan). I get busy at shows. I get hyped. When it’s a good show, I get lost in it and I don’t come back to earth ’til the show is over. If I see an artist I like out and about, I go say what’s up. Give a pound. Let ’em know I liked their last album. Whatever.

What I DON”T do, though? What I outright refuse to do, is groupie the fuck out. When Ye went into the crowd dudes lost their Goddamn minds. Just throwing bows at chicks like they were poisoned and Ye had the antidote. Remember, I’m talking about DUDES here. They were shoulder checking bitches, literally knocking them over, for what? To have their finger tips graze Kanye’s sweaty bicep? (Read that sentence again. Yes. The implication is as it seems. YES HOMO).

Gentlemen, there is nothing wrong with being a fan. Show your artists love. Buy their shit. Go to their shows. You see ‘em in the street? Go over and give ‘em dap. The artist seems cool and down for convo? Chop it up with them. Remember, they are human and a surprising amount of artists know they are human and actually appreciate talking to their supporters.

HOWEVER, under no circumstances, should you ever, EVER, knock a chick down so you can try to see your reflection in the glistening sweat of your favorite artist’s forehead. It’s not a good look.

Learn some fucking manners.
