As my annual bottle of Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle runs low, I started thinking about people’s perfume habits. In all my beauty fixations, my choice of perfume is my most consistent. I have been using Coco Mademoiselle for about 5 years now, summer and winter, and see no signs of changing. I have had dalliances into other sultry tones such as Dior Pure Poison and Flower by Kenzo, but Chanel has remained a true constant. I love how it makes me feel (I feel naked without it) and how friends and family identify that scent with me.

I have never been into changing my perfume to reflect the seasons. This might be because I am not a fan of the light floral scents or because I get so easily distracted in fashion and make up that I need to keep my scent the same! Of all beauty products, perfume is a total luxury. With luxury comes a hefty price tag which is why you should think about, and test, your scent before you buy it.

I have been making a concerted effort recently to test alternatives just to make sure that my money is being well spent (100ml of Coco Mademoiselle EDP is £78!).

Working above House of Fraser has its advantages when it comes to this. I have been tempted by the saccharine delights of Viktor & Rolf’s Flower Bomb which smells like a really naughty sweet shop.

In the words of 50 Cent, it’ll take you to the candy shop...

I will leave you with the infallible words of Coco Chanel which eloquently sum up what I have been trying to say:

“No elegance is possible without perfume. It is the unseen, unforgettable, ultimate accessory.”

So when you put it like that, it would be simply rude not to indulge. Is anyone heading through duty-free soon?!

Le Film: Un excellent “Feel Good Movie”.

Synopsis:

L’amour est partout, imprévisible, inexplicable, insurmontable. Il frappe quand il veut et souvent, ça fait pas mal de dégâts…
Pour le nouveau Premier Ministre britannique, il va prendre la jolie forme d’une jeune collaboratrice.
Pour l’écrivain au coeur brisé parti se réfugier dans le sud de la France, il surgira d’un lac.
Il s’éloigne de cette femme qui, installée dans une vie de couple ronronnante, suspecte soudain son mari de songer à une autre.
Il se cache derrière les faux-semblants de ce meilleur ami qui aurait bien voulu être autre chose que le témoin du mariage de celle qu’il aime.
Pour ce veuf et son beau-fils, pour cette jeune femme qui adore son collègue, l’amour est l’enjeu, le but, mais également la source d’innombrables complications.
En cette veille de Noël à Londres, ces vies et ces amours vont se croiser, se frôler et se confronter…

Critique:

Une excellente comédie/comédie romantique ! Richard Curtis, scénariste entre autres, de 4 mariages et un enterrement, Coup de foudre a Notting Hill et des Bridget Jones passe derrière la camera, avec un casting 5 étoiles.

Ainsi, on retrouve Hugh Grant, abonne a ce genre de films en premier ministre et plus particulièrement en sorte Tony Blair, mais aussi Liam Neeson (Taken, Star Wars), Colin Firth (Bridget Jones, Mamma Mia et l’étrange noël de Scrooge), Emma Thompson (Je suis une légende, Harry Potter -Prof Trelawney), Alan Rickman (Severus Rogue dans Harry Potter), Chiwetel Ejiofor (2012, Les fils de l’homme, Inside Man), Bill Nighy (Walkyrie, Hot Fuzz, H2G2, Pirate des caraïbes, The constant Gardner, Underworld 2 &3), Keira Knightley (Pirates des Caraibes, King Arthur, The Duchess, Domino) pour ne citer que les plus importants. Mais aussi des apparitions de Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean), Elisha Cuthbert (24 heures chrono), Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie) et Billy Bor Thornton (The Barber, Eagle Eye, A l’ombre de la haine).

Tout ces acteurs s’en donnent a cœur joie dans leurs rôles respectifs, et bien que comme on le voit, un grand nombre de personnages se croisent et se décroisent (et c’est la l’idée du scenario) celui-ci est construit de telle manière qu’on ne sent sent jamais perdu, confus et au final, les 2h15 de film (ce qui est plutôt rare pour une comédie/comédie romantique) passent toutes seules. La photographie, très axée sur le rouge est magnifique et parfaitement retranscrite par cet édition. Si certains pourront reprocher le trop bien de bien-être et de tout le monde il est beau, dégoulinant pour certains, on répondra que c’est bien le genre de ce film qui le veut et une fois de temps en temps, un « feel good movie » ca fait du bien, surtout de ce calibre-la !

Un excellent film, qui plaira a tout le monde dans la famille que ce soient des amis, votre copine, et même votre belle-mère ne pourront que passer un bon moment pendant 2h.

L’image: Un très beau transfert

Ce transfert en Blu-Ray apporte un plus indéniable sur les éditions parues sur d’autres supports et on découvre une image encore meilleur que celle vue en salle.

Si ce genre de film ne se prête en général pas a un top démo, force est de constater, qu’on prend une claque des le début du film si tant est qu’on ai vu les précédentes versions disponibles.

La colorimétrie est magnifique avec des couleurs éclatantes, d’autant plus que la période de noël est une excellente base de ce point de vu la ! Les contrastes sont particulièrement bien retranscrits, les couleurs de peau naturelles et aucune tache, grain trop présent, ou autres défauts ne viennent altérer notre expérience visuelle.

On ne dénote pas d’Edge Enhancement et emploi heureusement minimal de Noise Reduction.

Et si on ne perçoit pas d’effet 3D, et que le piqué n’est pas au couteau, il se dégage une belle sensation de détails dans l a plupart des cas et au final, il est plus que sympathique que de redécouvrir (visuellement) ce film !

Au final et pour les possesseurs de précédentes éditions, la qualité de l’image est telle qu’il serait dommage de passer a cote de cette édition, peut être pas un rachat obligatoire,  mais pour les fans du film et ceux qui ne l’auraient jamais vu, achat recommandé, surtout vu le prix demandé !

Le Son: Une piste DTS HD MA 5.1 pas tonitruante, mais bien sympathique !

Qui dit comédie/comédie romantique dit bande son principalement frontale. Qu’en est-il ici ?

Malgré l’emploi d’une piste DTS Master Audio 5.1 en VO, pas de miracles ! Les voix sont parfaitement bien retranscrites dans le mix, quelques petits effets d’ambiance viennent ponctuer certaines scènes, mais dans l’ensemble rien de folichon !

La scène arrière reste timide, ainsi que le caisson de basses. Certes les passages musicaux, d’ailleurs assez nombreux, profitent au mieux de cette nouvelle édition, mais a l’exception de ces passages et de quelques petits effets, l’activité reste principalement frontale et dialoguée. Pas de quoi casser trois pattes a un canard, mais une piste son qui reste fidèle à l’esprit du film.

Let’s face it, it’s only a matter of time until there’s a Lady Gaga movie, seeing as she already owns the face of pop music. The dilemma however is finding an actress who could accurately portray the enigma that is Lady Gaga.

The actress needs to be young, sexy, strut with serious attitude, and has to be a little weird. It crossed my mind several times that maybe the only person who fits the role is herself, but ever since 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (2005), I learned it’s not fun watching celebrities play themselves. Even some of the best actresses in the world would see the challenge of becoming Lady Gaga, and that’s why making a list of candidates was so damn hard.

1) Evan Rachel Wood

Ever since her tour-de-force performance in Thirteen (2003), Wood has secretly solidified herself as one of the most talented young actresses out there today. Not only does Wood have the talent to pull off the role, she’s also pretty weird–she dated Marilyn Manson, for crying out loud! They also semi-look alike, and I’m not going to knock Wood or any other actress for not having Lady Gaga’s honker–that’s what good makeup is for. And sex appeal? Check.

2) Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller is another talented actress who too often doesn’t receive her due. Not only is Miller talented as hell, like when she played Edie Sedgewick in Factory Girl (2006), but she also evokes sex and attitude. Rachel McAdams is talented too, but she doesn’t have the personality to pull off Lady Gaga—that’s the difference.

3) Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman is probably too cute to play Lady Gaga but her body of work shows versatility, like Alice in Closer (2004) and Evey in V for Vendetta (2005). Also, if you ever saw her role in Hotel Chevalier (2007), Wes Anderson’s short film, you know how bold and sexy she can be.

4) Keira Knightley

Ever since the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, I’ve lost complete respect for this woman. However, she has similar facial features and best of all–she’s English. And we all know how much Lady Gaga likes pretending she’s English.

5) Cate Blanchett

I know this is a stretch since Blanchett is a good 20 years older than Gaga, but in my mind, if you can play Bob Dylan like she did in I’m Not There (2007), you can play anyone. She got robbed at the Oscars, in my opinion, and with enough CGI, she could look like a 23-year old. She’s quite possibly one of the best actresses of our time, so it’s wrong to leave her out of the conversation.

Imagine having a life where pretty much everything you want is within easy reach and all you have to do is ask for it. In AMC’s re-imagined version of The Prisoner, Number 11-12 wakes up to that every day as a resident of The Village. The son of Number Two, the overseer of this residential “paradise,” and M2, his idealistic mother, this 17-year-old is among the privileged and is being groomed to one day take over his father’s duties within The Village. It sounds like the perfect situation, maybe not for 11-12, but it was one that actor Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays 11-12, could not wait to jump into.

“There had been rumors of The Prisoner floating about, and then I got a phone call from my agent telling me, ‘I think you should go out for this.’ He’s rarely wrong, so I did,” recalls Bower. “I received four pages of audition sides from one of the episodes, and as I read them something really struck home with me. There was just something quite moving about the material and this idea of family and the connection between 11-12 and his father, Two, played by Ian McKellen.

“So I was very excited about the project to begin with, and it was, I think, a rainy Tuesday afternoon when I went down to London’s South Bank next to the Thames for my audition. Whatever I did must have worked because I received another call telling me that I got the role, which was brilliant.”

While a life of privilege may sound enticing to some, especially a young person, it is rarely all that is cracked up to be. And as typically happens, no one seems to have asked 11-12 what he wants.

“With my character, it’s that classic case of, ‘I don’t want to be the prince any more. I want to be an ordinary person,” says Bower. “But then he also thinks that one day he might inherit The Village, so like most people his age, 11-12 is definitely feeling some angst towards his father. As for his relationship with his mother, M2 [Rachael Blake], it’s very distant. He loves her dearly, but he never sees her. His mother is just this entity in the house they live in, and 11-12 strives to have a much closer bond with her.

“So as you might imagine, 11-12 is quite highly strung and emotionally charged. He also has this feeling that he’s missing something in his life, but he doesn’t know what it is. Acting-wise, maintaining that high level of intensity and emotion wasn’t easy. In fact,there was one particular scene that I did with Vincent Regan [Number 909] that screws up my character in a major way. We shot it over an entire day and I had to be incredibly emotional most of that time. Again, it was tough, but it was also a challenge and one I enjoyed because it really helped me to grow as a person as well as an actor.”

Much to his surprise, a frustrated 11-12’s eyes are opened to an entirely new set of possibilities for his future, thanks to The Village’s newest resident and The Prisoner’s lead character, Number Six (Jim Caviezel). “Six’s arrival throws a bit of a spanner into the works of The Village,” notes Bower. “He comes along and forthrightly and outwardly says, ‘This isn’t all there is’ and 11-12’s reaction to that is, ‘Well, maybe he’s right.’ So his interaction with Six is one of curiosity as well as questioning and trying to understand why it is that this man is saying what he’s saying. And I think 11-12 ends up believing in and trusting Six.”

While their onscreen personas are caught up in the turmoil of what is happening to them, The Prisoner’s cast as well as crew could not have enjoyed their time together more, Bower included. “Everyone involved in this project is incredibly talented and fun,” enthuses the actor. “Working with Ian McKellen is an absolute joy and a pleasure. The same is true of working with young British stars like Hayley Atwell [Lucy/4-15] and Ruth Wilson [Number 313]. We all became good mates and helped each other out, patted one another on the back when we needed it, and laughed at each other when we didn’t need it,” he jokes. “We spent four-and-a-half months together in South Africa. Not many people can say that, apart from those who live there, and we had a really nice time.”

Bower was 14 when he decided that he wanted to become an actor, and four years later made his feature film debut in director Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. “I had just turned 18 and was at boarding school in the English countryside,” he says. “I was sneaking out at five o’clock in the morning through my house master’s backdoor and getting into a car that was waiting for me outside the school gates to take me to set. I’d then return to school around seven at night and go back to bed.

“I did that for about two weeks and then I made the decision that I should probably just leave school and not bum a free bed off them every night. So that’s what I did, and it was an incredibly terrifying experience for me, being just 18 and working alongside people like Tim Burton as well as Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman and Timothy Spall. It was also a phenomenal opportunity and it gave me such an amazing starting point that I could never have dreamt of, so I was very, very lucky.”

Besides The Prisoner, Bower can also currently be seen as Caius in the latest installment of the hugely successful teenage vampire tale The Twilight Saga: New Moon. “I was in Los Angeles not too long ago and they were casting for New Moon,” says the actor. “My American agent asked me if I would like to audition for it, and I said that I’d kill to audition for it. So I met with [director] Chris Weitz and then I got a call offering me the role of Caius, which I was really excited about.

“Caius, along with Michael Sheen’s character of Ar0, and Marcus,who is played by Chris Heyerdahl, are the leaders of an ancient Italian vampire coven known as the Volturi. We shot in Vancouver and I was there for about three weeks working with actors like Michael, Chris, Dakota Fanning [Jane], Rob Pattinson [Edward Cullen] and Kris Stewart [Bella Swan]. It was a real treasure of a role for me and another great set of actors to work with and learn from.”

The actor has a lead role alongside Keira Knightley and Colin Farrell in the upcoming film London Boulevard and has guest-starred in an episode of the new British Fantasy TV series Game of Thrones. Harry Potter fans can also look forward to enjoying Bower’s performance in the two-part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

“I play Gellert Grindelwald, who’s an old friend of Dumbledore’s [Michael Gambon],” he says. “They have this idea that they can create a utopian wizardry world, and then there’s a big fight and something awful happens,” teases the actor.

“So it was another fun project, and ‘fun’ is one of the things about this job that’s important to me. I hope I can continue doing this up until the point that it isn’t fun any more. That’s when people become jaded and become the person that they never wanted to be. I think growing as an actor and a performer is a wonderful thing to behold, and feeling like you’re learning as well. That’s especially important for young actors like myself who have chosen a different path. We haven’t gone to university, but, instead, have decided that acting is what we want to do, and as long as you’re learning while doing it, then I think that’s the main thing that will keep you happy.”

Tutti sanno che Roma pullula di personaggi famosi. Ma quello che non tutti sanno è che è altrettanto piena di persone che assomigliano a personaggi famosi.
L’altro giorno, per esempio, in metropolitana mi è capitato d’imbattermi nelle sosia di Keira Knightley e di Mary Kate Olsen.

Mary Kate (e quando dico Mary Kate intendo la copia spiccicata di Mary Kate e non anche dell’altra gemella Olsen), romana “de’ Colli Arbani”, capello biondo e sguardo furbetto, viso acneico e fisico vistosamente in sovrappeso, stava socializzando con la sua vicina di posto, una certa Nina, ragazzina fuori-sede da poco approdata nella Capitale, graziosa ma oltremodo verbosa.
Questa Nina, a quanto pare, non vedeva l’ora di informare qualcuno che di lì a poco avrebbe preso parte alla sua seconda lezione di canto.
“Cha musica canti?” chiede allora incuriosita Mary Kate.
“Tutta” risponde orgogliosa la ragazza.
“Ma moderna?” chiede ancora la controfigura brufolosa della Olsen.
“Rinascimentale” replica Nina.
“Ahhh, da chiesa!”
“No, non proprio. Considera che siamo un coro…”
E allora Nina – quasi non aspettasse altro – si accinge a mostrare il suo grosso raccoglitore ad anelli all’incredula Mary Kate, la quale, senza il minimo imbarazzo, dichiara di non aver mai sentito nominare nessuno dei testi o dei titoli contenuti lì dentro, tantomeno i rispettivi autori.
Ma ecco che, arrivati alla fermata Marconi, la bruttissima copia della Olsen numero1 è – ahimé! – costretta a scendere, quindi a congedarsi dalla povera Nina, che è rimasta abbandonata a se stessa (ma sempre con il grosso raccoglitore in mano) fino alla stazione Laurentina.

Di Keira, invece, non mi sono pervenute informazioni di rilievo. La ragazza non ha aperto bocca per tutta la durata del viaggio.
L’unica cosa che ricordo è che aveva delle enormi orecchie a sventola. E che ho molto apprezzato la sua T-shirt.

Mi piacciono i cappelli. Ho un cappellino molto fashion. Qualcuno si volta pure a guardarmi per strada quando lo indosso. E non so dire se è perché assomiglio a Keira Knightley oppure a Michael Jackson.

A guy two houses away from me is known for beating up his girlfriend time and time again. He has thrown her out of the house in the dead of night in her underwear. And no matter how many times he yells and hits her she kept going back to him until she finally had the courage to leave. Now he has a new one. I pray she will listen to those around her and get out while she can. It seems he has yet to show her his true colors.

Gisele, Vanessa Hudgens, Jessica Alba, and Keira Knightley are a hattrick plus one!

Besides avoiding hypothermia in the dead of December, I once labeled the hat as an excuse for the infamous bad hair day.  Bed-head? Baseball cap; Frizz? Beret; Balding? Yarmulke.  That headwear could actually characterize a style profile, whether Brit Keira Knightley, Brazilian bombshell Gisele Bündchen, American sweetheart Vanessa Hudgens, or American psycho Lindsay Lohan, was, in the words of my favorite cinematic villain, inconceivable!

And yet, in like fashion to the romantic hero of The Princess Bride, I find myself helplessly conceding to the splendor of the Eugenia Kim Maxine fedora.  Cover my long brunette locks with a sequin-embellished fedora?  As you wish.

It’s a must-have that surpasses time and personality, from prohibition and the Great Depression through the high notes of a young Michael Jackson–so symbolically embedded in fashion’s repertoire that it evokes contradictory illustrations, from the trenched gangster to an iconic Gene Kelly singin’ in the rain.  Eugenia Kim reaffirms the fedora’s place in the twenty-first century.

For the gifted, fortune may be the byproduct of an experimental stint gone awry.  This is what separates a genius from the masses.  Kim is indeed far from average.  Take, for instance, the following scenario:

Two months after donating to Locks of Love, the honeymoon was over.  The high of benevolence was (admittedly) selfishly wearing off.  Chia plants make it look so easy!  I moped around with some arbitrarily arranged bun and a superfluous headband, rationalizing that in drawing attention to the obnoxious peacock arrangement on my head that I’d detract attention from my pseudo-bob woes.  Irrationality comes in curious forms.

I am clearly no Eugenia Kim.  Daring to raise the drama meter, when similarly discontented with a haircut, our beloved mad hatter completely sheared off her lamentable locks and replaced her questionable cut with the legendary handmade red guinea-feathered cloche that ignited her authority in the fashion industry.  Yea, that was my next option…

Do you ever see a movie and recognize so many people in it that you wonder why you’re never heard of it before?  The was me watching ‘The Jacket’.  To be fair, I fell asleep half way through (I’ve been fighting a cold), so I really can’t tell you how the movie was.  The part I saw was disturbing…but sort of intriguing. 

The funny thing was that, before we turned the movie on, neither of us had ever even heard anything about this film.  The Direct TV synopsis mentioned Adrien Brody and Kris Kristofferson, so we expected them.  But as I watched the movie, I kept asking Jason “Hey, isn’t that….”.  This was hilareous because Jason could watch the year’s blockbuster starring the biggest star in the world and not remember what movie is was or who was in it.

It was a really strange mix of talent…some A-list, some not…but, yeah, it was stacked…..

Com a ajuda de Will Turner, um ferreiro amigo e apaixonado por Elizabeth, Sparrow decide recuperar seu navio. Porém, o navio Pérola Negra, de Barbossa, sofreu uma maldição por conta de um tesouro, fazendo que quem o navegue se torne imortal e vire zumbi à luz do luar.

O Baú da Morte

A trama de Baú da Morte gira em torno de uma dívida de sangue do Capitão Jack Sparrow para com Davy Jones, um monstro lendário que vive no navio fantasma Flying Dutchman (O Holandês Voador). Para escapar de seu credor, o Capitão Jack precisa recuperar a chave do baú enterrado, que contém o coração ainda pulsante de Davy Jones.

Mas há outros interessados em conseguir o baú, especialmente o diretor da Companhia das Índias Orientais, Lord Cutler Beckett. Ele prende Will Turner e sua noiva, Elizabeth Swann, antes do casamento deles, para que Will seja motivado a procurar Jack Sparrow e assim encontrar o baú antes de Sparrow.

No Fim do Mundo

O Lorde Cuttler Beckett (Tom Hollander), da Companhia das Índias Orientais, detém o comando do navio-fantasma Flying Dutchman. O navio, agora sob o comando do almirante James Norrington (Jack Davenport), tem por missão vagar pelos sete mares em busca de piratas e matá-los sem piedade. Na intenção de deter Beckett, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) e o capitão Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) precisam reunir os Nove Lordes Piratas da Corte da Irmandade. Porém falta um dos Lordes, o capitão Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). O trio parte para Cingapura, na intenção de conseguir o mapa que os conduzirá ao fim do mundo, o que possibilitará que Jack seja resgatado. Para isso eles tem que reunir a corte da Irmandade com os piratas Gentleman Jocard, Mistress Ching, Sao Feng, Villanueva, Ammand, Sri Sumbhajee e Capitão Chevalle.

Creepy right?

When I saw the movie Last House on the Left, I was sickened when one of the main characters was violently raped by one of the criminals. I realize that more and more people are going to the movies with more violence, more gore, more explicit language. What I don’t get is how they can get away with this and ban a commercial that is trying to take a stand against domestic violence.

This short commercial, by womensaid.org.uk, features actress Keira Knightley, and I feel is shocking enough to prove a point, but clearly does not step over any boundaries that any other commercials have broken.  See for yourself.

I want to get everyone else’s opinions on this? Do you think this commercial should have been aired? Is it “too violent”?
