Seven years ago, Nelly was one of the biggest hip hop entertainers in the world. At the time, the rapper was flexing his superstar muscle. Coming off of his chart-topping hit, “Hot In Herre,” Nelly prepared for his next single, “Dilemma.” The song featured former Destiny’s Child star, Kelly Rowland and has become her biggest single to date.

After the release of that single, Nelly and Rowland made many public appearances together. This led many to believe that the two were dating. They never directly spoke on their relationship, but it was clear that they were more than friends. Once the single fell from frequent radio play, so did their relationship.

Both artists fell out of the public eye only a few years after their collaboration. In 2008, Nelly returned with an album. On this album, his single “Body on Me,” featured Ashanti. Before long, there were rumors of a relationship between those two artists. Both Ashanti and Nelly confirmed this relationship.

A few months ago, Kelly Rowland also made her big return to the spotlight. She was featured in the video for 50 Cent’s “Baby by Me.” Rowland played to love interest of 50 Cent. Her feature in the video reintroduced Kelly Rowland to the public, now she is ready to create more music. In 2010, she plans to record a new album.

Currently, Nelly is also working on a new album, called Let’s Get It. The album will feature a collaboration with Kelly Rowland. The new song between Nelly and Kelly will be a sequel to their 2002 hit, “Dilemma.” This single will be the first single off of Nelly’s next album, which will be released during the summer of 2010.

I loves me some Kelly, but I really think she needs to go short again; she has that super cute face that’s crying out for a Halle Berry cut!! ‘Member Kels back in the day, with that slick short hairstyle? She was asked to perform a Destiny’s Child medley by Elton John himself. All proceeds from the event went to the Elton John Aids Foundation. Here’s my list of favourite songs of 2009. I will not be including songs from albums that were released in previous years that happened to top the chart this year though, including the incredible “Halo” by Beyonce, and only includes songs that were released as singles. So here we go:

1) I Want To Know What Love Is – Mariah Carey

I really love this remake of the Foreigner classic, and I think Mariah really did this song very well. She’s an amazing vocalist, and it definitely shows. I didn’t think the music video did the song justice though. I think she could have filmed it in a real arena/ stadium, and it would have looked much better. Anyway, she still looks stunning and sounds amazing!

2) 掉了(Fallen) – Amit/ A*Mei

Definitely my favourite Mandarin song of 2009! The composer Qing Feng wrote this song especially for A*mei after hearing about her plight in which she was not able to see her father for the last time because of a certain typhoon that disrupted air traffic. A truly emotional song and delivered perfectly by Amit/ A*mei! The music video is really nice too!

The talented singer from the X Factor series wows again with her new album and single. “Happy” is delivered flawlessly by Leona Lewis, displaying her powerful vocals as well as ability to emote..

It’s that time of the year when everyone starts reflecting on the year that has just flown by. 2009 was, er… hectic to say the least. A lot of challenging times and a whole lot of self-discovery. These are my most-listened to songs of 2009. Reasons as to shy the songs struck a chord with me are also noted for some songs.

The Script – Breakeven
This song kicked off my year. What I didn’t know was how rough the year would be.

Alicia Keys – Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart
“Tonight, I’m gonna find a way to make it without you”. Strongest line of the year, I promise you. You feel pain, you feel the last ounces of strength, you feel love, you feel soul. YOU FEEL. I hold Alicia up to high standards because she’s that good. Forever a believer.

I still feel like I am in New York every time I hear it. my friend, Maria, tells me it’s even better than on TV.

Lady Gaga – Speechless
Best track off the Fame Monster upon my first listen. I subsequently realized this was inspired in a very strong way by David Bowie in this “Ziggy Stardust” era. Ziggy Stardust is everything I am so of course I would like this. Like Gaga said, “you are only as good as your references”.

Whitney Houston – I Didn’t Know My Own Strength
Mama Whit is back! I don;t even have to explain this one. If you don’t get it, that’s you hey…I can’t help non-believers. The voice is not what it once was but her voice is now a voice that has been through life. I truly feel everything that the song is about. 2009 was challenging for me, “there were times I thought I wouldn’t make it through the night” but I “got to know my own strength”. this song was on my playlist from June and it still is. Inspirational stuff. I fell down, “I didn’t crumble” and I got back up…my friend Niki sure knows about that.

Dido – Don’t Believe in Love
“If I don’t believe in love then nothing is left for me”. I’m a believer.

Keri Hilson – Knock You Down
As soon as the pulsating beat started going I was hooked. Don’t know why but I think it was the whole allowing yourself to be taken down by love. Being vulnerable enough to let it take you into its arms and do with you what it pleases. This takes a large amount of strength and belief.

Black Eyed Peas – Party All The Time
While everyone else was busy having a feeling about how good the night was going to be I was loving this jam. During my school stress all I was dreaming about was that “If I could party all night and sleep all day my life would be easy”. It’s a great party-starter or, if you’re like me, use it as a daydreaming mechanism when you don;t want to study, lol.

David Guetta ft Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over
My word, I’ve BEEN waiting for Ms Rowland to do something! I was probably her only one fan still holding on. This was everything I needed it to be. For those that don’t know, David Guetta’s reference was /late 80s/early 90s/Whitney Houston/Pop Diva. Well executed.

Regina Spektor – Samson
“You are my sweetest downfall, I loved you first”. Funny thing is, I’ve never felt this emotion but I get her. Am I a fake?

Kings Of Leon – Frontier City
My goodness. Too intense. It’s about moving on and letting things because of the shortness of life and how the end/death is inescapable.. “Fly yourself away from here ’til you;re clear, before it’s going, going, gone”. A little heavy, but it is perfect for the 2009 edition of the soundtrack to my life.

Carole King – So Far Away
Talk about being almost a decade later. If you want to be my friend, you have to listen to this song and the whole album called “Tapestry”. It is everything I am.

Daniel Merriweather – Red
I think I just really liked the “I can’t do this on my own” part. Again, the year was rough.

Miley Cyrus – The Climb
Now, don’t start side-eyeing me because it’s Miley. This song is amazing. inspirational, well-written, super strong melody. If you want to know how to write a song, pay attention.

Whitney Houston – I Look To You
Same reason as to why I liked “I didn’t know my own strength”. Me and Mama Whit have had a strong relationship for a long ass time.

Dido – Never Want To Say It’s Love
One of those Grey’s Anatomy moments. Those who know will know what I’m talking about. The rest of y’all, rent a DVD or something, lol.

Cheryl Cole – Fight For This Love
I promise you, this song is so black. The beat goes hard and is so urban and soulful-esque. That’s why I love it…I don’t care much for Cheryl herself.

Lady Gaga – Just Dance
I know that I’m so 2000 and late since this was released last year but this song is her best ever. Pure pop genius. If you don’t get it, I can’t help it. My friend says Poker Face is better. Luckily for him, he’s not into arguing otherwise I would keep fighting as to why this is the best. Listen to this song in the club and then tell me it isn’t pure pop perfection. (see what I did with the alliteration there, lol…the little joys).

Feist – Let It Die
“The saddest part of broken heart is in the ending so much as start. The tragedy starts from the very first spark, losing your mind for the sake of your heart” No truer lyric has ever been written.

Keri Hilson – Turn My Swag On (Cover)
I heard this before I heard Soulja Boy’s so maybe that’s why I like it. I prefer singing to groaning.

Ok…so I was already reprimanding daddy Knowles for acting like a slut and having a lovechild with a young lady in Cali. As if that isnt bad enough, I found out that this isnt his FIRST lovechild. His first lovechild was none other than Kelly Rowland! WOW! WTF?? My thoughts exactly. LOL. Matthew Knowles seems to be the problem in this family. He’s the reason there constantly getting sued and he’s the reason there breaking up! This guys a real class act. I know this isnt really LGBT related but theres just been alot of infidelity/drama/domestic violence going on in the the public eye lately and I personally think its a sad ass mess. That is all!

It’s the end of a year and it seems to me that some of the best releases came in this last quarter. Quite a change from previous years with the summer anthems taking the top of my list. I’ve thought back to what I had on repeat on my iPod this year along with those choruses I just couldn’t get out of my head and came up with my top 10 singles of this year.

*A disclaimer* I am an unabashed, hardcore Britney fan so yes, 3 of her singles do make it on the list. And no, I did not include Black Eyed Peas or Taylor Swift–though they were fun and massively successful, they don’t make the top of my personal favorites this year. So, for what it’s worth, here are the songs that I feel pushed pop the furthest this year and quite frankly, kept me listening!

The Paradiso Girls: ‘Patron Tequila’

Hell, this was one fun summer song that deserves a nod just for the catchy line “Who wanna get effed up: I do, I do!” Hopefully they won’t be a one-hit-wonder and do something equally as catchy for 2010.

Ke$ha: ‘Tik Tok’

Starting with an intense online campaign, and coming of the heels of her successful debut on FloRida’s ‘Right Round’ single, Ke$ha’s first single from her album ‘Animal’ is one of the best party songs of the year.  Sure, she talks about getting drunk and partying and nothing too in depth, but sometimes you just want a good song to get ready for a night out of partying to–and Ke$ha doesn’t disappoint there.  2010 looks to be a great start for her; seeing her album finally debut with top-notch producers Dr. Luke and Max Martin at the healm.

David Guetta ft. Kelly Rowland: ‘When Love Takes Over’

Dance anthems don’t get much catchier than this one.  Take the well-known piano theme from Coldplay’s ‘Clocks’ and have French superstar DJ David Guetta mix it with Kelly Rowland’s powerful vocals and you have a dance club smash on your hands.  After hearing Kelly belt this one out and seeing the success she had with her previous dance hit ‘Work ,’ I’m beginning to think Ms. Rowland needs to put out a dance album of her own.

Miley Cyrus: ‘Party in the U.S.A.’

Everyone has their guilty-pleasure artist and I’m afraid Miley is mine.  Opening with a bit of a country twang and singing about being a Nashville girl at heart, Miley partied her way to the top of the charts with her first #1 single with this song.   And no, she did not just make this list because she gives a shout out to Britney in the song–it’s really a fun, carefree single!

Beyoncé: ‘Halo’

Ok, I know I’m going to get a lot of slack for this being the only Beyoncé single to make the list (possibly even more so because of a conflict with another single that placed higher on my list).  It can’t be argued that Beyoncé enjoyed an amazingly successful year with her album I Am…Sasha Fierce , perhaps more than any other artist.  There’s just something about her to me that is offputting.  However, I will say I admire how she handled the Taylor Swift/Kanye West incident, and I am still a fan of her ballads, including this one.

Lady Gaga: ‘Paparazzi’

One of the stand out tracks from her debut The Fame, ‘Paparazzi’ makes the cut in large part because of the crazy, stylized video that accompanied it.  One of the darker sounding tracks of the album, ‘Paparazzi’ is all about quintessential Gaga: the quest for fame and love and the dangers that come with it when blurring the two together.  This will always be on of my favorite Gaga tracks as I think it’s musicality is unique, even for Gaga!

I know what you’re thinking: you can’t have a tie in a top 10 chart.  However, these two tracks both being produced by Ryan Tedder and being phenomenally done, I can’t decide between the two!

Kelly Clarkson: ‘Already Gone’

Even though this song didn’t seem to catch on as well as I would have liked, it still takes the #5 position in my list.  I feel this is Ryan Tedder at his best since ‘Bleeding Love,’ and Kelly gives some of the most personal, emotional performances of her career.  It’s a very relatable song and one that I really would have loved to see more promotion for.  I think the Beyoncé/Clarkson controversy was nonsense–aside from both being Tedder ballads featuring piano, I see no real similarities.

Jordin Sparks: ‘Battlefield’

Another Tedder power pop song, Jordin blew me away with this one.  It’s really passionate and the chorus just bursts with emotion.  I love everything about this song from the opening piano to Jordin’s slight dips in the last repeats of the refrain.  Definitely a song that will mark her career.

Britney Spears: ‘If U Seek Amy’

This song makes the list cause it is classic Britney.  It’s got Max Martin behind it who wrote her first song ‘…Baby One More Time,’ it’s got controversy with the witty, ambiguous play on words, and the style is pure Britney through and through.  I thought that this was one of the more clever pop songs written in recent history and it’s just a really fun song to put on maximum volume and sing along to.  The video is also a great homage to some of her past hits borrowing elements from past videos (and who can forget them poking fun at that crazy fox news lady?!)

Britney Sears: ‘Circus’

This is probably my favorite Britney song-ever.  Where as ‘Slave 4 U’ introduced us a new, darker, sultry Britney, ‘Circus’ brought that to a completely new level.  Dr. Luke certainly crafted a sound that had not been done before and the result was, IMO, as close to pop song perfection as one can get.  Tying in the album theme and world tour, this was a well-thought-out single choice as the resulting show and album were made even more fun by the circus elements.  Coming after a period where Britney’s life really was a public circus, she declared that all eyes were on her and she was back doing what she loved to do best.  A very commanding song, a slick, thematic video make this a career highlight for Britney–it should have made it to #1 on Billboard!

Lady Gaga: ‘Bad Romance’

Crazy.Operatic.Epic.  These three words describe the latest single from do-it-yourself pop star Lady Gaga.  Wasting no time after promoting her debut album around the world, Lady Gaga announced that she would be releasing an all new album with ‘Bad Romance’ as the lead single.  It features production from RedOne who also penned her smashes ‘Poker Face’ and ‘Just Dance.’  While those were great, I feel ‘Bad Romance’ amplifies what Gaga is all about even more: theatrics and unique electro pop music.  With nonsensical lyrics, some go Gaga’s strongest vocals yet, clean production, and a wild video, I think ‘Bad Romance’ will be talked about for years.

Britney Spears: ‘3′

Yes.  ‘3′ is my number one track for 2009.  Even though I cited ‘Circus’ as my favorite Britney track, ‘3′ tops my 2009 list because of what it signifies.  It marks the return of one of the world’s most dynamic and important entertainers.  After such a tumultuous period for pop’s princess, many wrote her off as a crazy has-been.  But after staging one of 2009’s most successful world tours and experiencing multiple successes with her album Circus, Britney achieved her third career #1 with this song.  ‘3′ sees Britney teamed up with Max Martin again on another naughty romp with nods to ‘If U Seek Amy.’  But where ‘If U Seek Amy’ hides in its innocence, ‘3′ comes right out and says what’s on Britbrit’s mind.  The lyrics are fun, again in a bit of a playground chant that makes us remember the little, innocent Britney we first came to know, and the beat is quick and danceable: what we’ve come to expect from a standout Britney track.  Signifying the close of one era and the start of another, ‘3′ is proof that adult Britney can still make relevant pop tracks that make people want to listen.

This film shall forever remain infamous in horror lore thanks to the guys at New Line who finally gave us a battle between two of the most successful horror franchises of all time. The buzz started at the ending sequence of the 9^th F13 film, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, in which Jason’s mask is lying on the ground and then out of nowhere Freddy Krueger’s glove comes from underground and takes Jason’s mask. Talk about one HELL of an ending! Ten years after that epic moment and after lots of script rewrites we finally got this film on the big screen and boy is this flick aimed to please it’s loyal fans. :huge smile:

You may need to have seen a few of the previous films of both franchises to understand the plot, but here’s how the plot goes. The people of Springwood have forgotten about Freddy Krueger and put the town’s horrid past behind them. In order for Freddy to come back and start killing again, the townsfolk have to fear him, without them fearing him…he has no power. The townsfolk have done a good job concealing the town’s past and Freddy’s usual victims, the children, have never heard of him and therefore cannot fear him. There is where Freddy comes up with a genius plan, and where Jason becomes involved. Jason is dead and buried and constantly reliving his own hell in his mind. Because both Jason and Freddy are dead and confined to the afterlife, Freddy can enter Jason’s dreams. He enters Jason’s dream and acts as Jason’s mother, telling him to start killing again in order to avenge her death. Jason then wakes from his grave and the awesome carnage it took us ten years to see again comes back to life, in brutal ways! However because of the town’s past with Freddy the townsfolk automatically assume that Freddy is behind the killings and begin to fear him again. Freddy’s plan works, and he is then able to regain his power and begin killing people in their dreams again. However once our main characters Lori(Monica Keena), Will(Jason Ritter, who is John Ritter’s son), Kia(Kelly Rowland of “Destiny’s Child”), and Charlie(Chris Martquette) figure out that Jason is in town hacking up all of their friends, they devise a plan to bring Freddy into the real world and have Jason finish him off once and for all.

Wow, where do I begin? This film embodies all of the elements we loved from the F13 and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises, with a few surprises here and there. It’s always classic to watch Robert Englund so perfectly execute his role as Freddy, and I am sad to see that after 8 roles as Freddy(including this film) he is not reprising his role as Freddy Krueger anymore. I do however have faith that Jackie Earl Haley will do fine as the new Freddy Kruger, given he is a very fine actor overall. Now as for Jason…well…when I first heard the shocking news that Kane Hodder was turned down for the role of Jason, I screamed to myself “What the HELL???” Kane Hodder remains the only actor to portray Jason more than once(4 times total in parts 7, 8, 9, and 10) and is believed to be the greatest acting Jason of all time, which I concur. Because director Ronny Yu and the producers for the film wanted Jason to REALLY tower over Freddy, the 6’3½” Kane Hodder was passed up for the 6’5½” Ken Kirzinger, who had actually appeared in Friday the 13^th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan as a cook that gets in Jason’s way and gets thrown onto a table. Ironic huh? Fortunately…Ken Kirzinger was an effective Jason and I actually enjoyed his towering height and found it pretty darn awesome seeing such a huge Jason walking about the foggy forests of Crystal Lake.

I really enjoyed how this film got going right off the back and gave us some pretty sweet Jason carnage early on. Director Ronny Yu managed to incorporate pretty much every 80’s horror cliché all within the first 15-20 minutes of the film! Nice! This film really doesn’t leave out either Freddy nor Jason as far as screen-time goes and managed to mix them into the story pretty well. The majority of the film is really “about” Freddy, however I feel we get a great amount of Jason as he definitely gets more kills in this film. Speaking of the kills…they were awesome! I saw some of the greatest kills in Jason history in this film, starting with the “bed” kill at the beginning and never letting up the use of his trusty machete as well as a few other tools Jason managed to get his hands on. Pay attention to the scene where Jason crashes a rave party in the middle of a cornfield, that scene is honestly about 2 minutes of some of the greatest Jason action ever put on film! I really must congratulate Ronny Yu on making sure to throw in lots of gore and for how he constructed these kill scenes, pretty impressive for the guy who brought us the mediocre Bride of Chucky.

There is not much I did not like about this film other than some questionable CGI scenes that really did not make the film any better(the “caterpillar” scene for one…). I do feel that Ronny Yu’s direction could have been better at times but overall he nailed this film when it mattered most.

Overall, this film manages to live up to the ten years of hype and failed to let it’s loyal fans down by giving us some awesome kills, funny dialogue(thanks to Freddy of course), and of course…the epic final sequence that is literally…Freddy vs. Jason!

Kelly Rowland and Nelly were streaming live from the studio last night where they were working on Dilemma Pt. 2. Sounds good from what i hear. They look like they had a lot of fun, but, is it just me or do they seem like they’d make a cute couple?

If you don’t have her music somewhere on repeat, your not of this world…this artist is that infectious. Houston Texas own Letoya Luckett has that “it” factor. For an artist to be so down to earth and is not afraid to show personality to the fans is unheard of yet simply amazing. Letoya started out singing in the choir then received her piece of stardom as one of the founding members of the group Destiny’s Child. Later she split from that group and moved onto the next, Anjel which never really got off the ground due to production company difficulties. Even with all the music industry let down and media uproar which dug her name through the mud, Letoya Luckett obviously kept persevering now with a platinum debut album self titled Letoya and a new release titled Lady Love climbing the charts along with two clothing boutique and a few tv/movie gigs present and coming 2010. ”Not Anymore” off her latest album is my jam it reminds me of the past and empowers me to look towards the future in relationships especially with the lines “Mmm, no more settling for less i’m looking for that kind of man that’s gonna give his best ’cause I’m giving my best” (chile AMEN) c’mon do yourself a favor and get into her music both albums are in stores now!
