Alright Blue!!
Ken Zi:Kill is one of the best guitarist in the world, and he is also the influence for other guitarist. He had been the adviser for some senior. Almost Zi:Kill fans will love Tusk and follow Zi:Kill member at a band called, “Craze”; but I prefer Ken better. I realize that I do love Zi:Kill’s music, because Ken composed and arranged it. The right style for me should be Ken. I try to collect his solo albums. I put some important songs on Imeem (click to listen), because Imeem is a legal place, and I would like to see people love him as I do, too. A lovely friend on Flickr told me that she loved everyone, because other people like to say the name of only one member. Oh dear, you make me smile.

Why is this Easter Day of Spring 2009?
It is the day I made it. I made it for this day. Easter is really about re-born or all things. Firstly, Jesus Christ’s resurrection; secondly, the blossom; thirdly, it is about the day that bright time and dark time have the same length, so say hello to the sun. All are bright in this day! It is Spring time. I would like to see Ken and his Zi:Kill to be just like this. I want to hear their new music, I want to see their re-union, but now, I just listen to their similar bands. I mean, American alternative rock/ punk, my most favorite genre ever. Zi:Kill is punk, too. In their time, they did not promote themselves that much. All dressed with black suit,.., oh, seems like they have their own perfect world that other people want to get into, and Hide (Hideto Matsumoto) did that. All girls in the world would be so jealous. Hide, you just touched and kissed their charming guy. Hide, you were just a guitarist that the professional (all music professors I know) could not indicate that you or Yoshiki lost the rhythms. Some said that Yoshiki lost his drums rhythm, and some said that Hide lost solo rhythms. Hide, you were with that best guitarist in the world. Right then, no girls would be jealous you, but me. Hide, you loved it as your heart, and I read a lot of Japanese says, although they were from Google translate. Hide, I know you listened to their music, and “Lucky Man” in the solo album of Ken. The right word for Hide, you are the Best Artist Wannabe. You just tried to be Salvador Dali. Or, you just want to be Ms. Hyde to be with your best band. My best band, too. All people’s lives will keep going, but not you for now.

It’s a modern retelling of the old “I killed your master!” revenge tale, and it tells it in a bold, brutally efficient way.

Tell me if you’ve heard this one before: Mobster crosses paths with young kid. Kid grows up and idolizes mobster – dresses like him, even talks like him. Their fates become inextricably entwined.

Sounds like A BRONX TALE, doesn’t it? It also summarizes the plot of Eric Won’s KEN, which is more of an action picture than Robert De Niro’s directorial debut. It’s a film that values action and movement over narrative. Gangsters talk monotonously about double-crosses and business deals gone awry. Everything they say is utterly inconsequential. The film is more concerned with elemental things like honor and revenge. It’s a modern retelling of the old “I killed your master!” revenge tale, and it tells it in a bold, brutally efficient way.

The kid is named Ken. A homeless boy with fists of fury, Ken gets into a fight one day. This scene made me wonder: Do emo kids have trouble winning fights with all that hair in their eyes? The answer is yes, because Ken nearly gets knifed. A gangster named Jack saves him at the last second and takes him under his wing. I love the transition that comes after this scene. There’s no title card telling us that 20 years have passed. Instead, Won uses cinematic language to move the story along and show how the characters have progressed.

“Cinematic language” is the movie’s greatest strength. Won has a great sense of screen space and atmosphere, especially in the action scenes. The twist at the end really took me by surprise. I’m not sure it’s completely satisfying on a dramatic level, but it has some of the same out-of-nowhere nastiness as Park Chan-Wook’s brilliant OLDBOY.

Day 77 – Ken here
(DEF v.1, ch.16, pp.530-540)

We continue with Chapter 16 and the history of the persecutions of Christians by the Roman Empire.

Jesus’ Brothers
Gibbon notes the very interesting history of Jude – the brother of Jesus. Mary was held to be a virgin her whole life, and Joseph was held to be celibate (by the Western church) his whole life. This left a problem in the New Testament with reference to Jesus’ brothers, since neither Mary or Joseph would have been able to have more children.

The Gnostics and the Orthodox had (an un-celibate) Joseph marrying a second time, thus giving Jesus step-brothers. The West (after Jerome) had Joseph being celibate his whole life, and so made all references to brothers of Jesus in the New Testament re-understood as really meaning first cousins (ex. Jude, and later Simon, and James).

A very intricate, and interesting distinction – I had no idea that the interpretation of the Bible on this point was so involved.

For an interesting story about the descendants of Jesus’ family see Descendants in Wiki Jude. Gibbon notes that this (the account of Jude) is the supposed 1st Persecution under Domitian (see above in The Story).

Quotable Gibbon: On the Rape of Virgins as a Constant Theme in Martyr Histories
Gibbon is beside himself with the increasingly lascivious, graphic, X-rated content of the histories of the Martyrs in later centuries (ex. the 400’s, 500’s). You can almost feel the exasperation and discomfort leaping off the page.

Gibbon tells the story in a footnote (DEF v.1, ch.16, p.539, fn.65) of a young man, chained naked on a bed of flowers, and assaulted repeatedly by a beautiful woman, who saved himself by biting off his own tongue (how exactly, except for the pain, did that help?). (see Jerome – the Legend of Paul the Hermit). What an imagination these monks had! – (Sorry, I know this post is getting long, but some of this is just too good to pass up).

This per Gibbon: “The monks of succeeding ages, who, in their peaceful solitudes, entertained themselves with diversifying the deaths and sufferings of the primitive martyrs, have frequently invented torments of a much more refined and ingenious nature. In particular, it has pleased them to suppose that the zeal of the Roman magistrates, disdaining every consideration of moral virtue or public decency, endeavoured to seduce those whom they were unable to vanquish, and that by their orders the most brutal violence was offered to those whom they found it impossible to seduce. It is related that pious females, who were prepared to despise death, were sometimes condemned to a more severe trial, and called upon to determine whether they set a higher value on their religion or on their chastity. The youths to whose licentious embraces they were abandoned received a solemn exhortation from the judge to exert their most strenuous efforts to maintain the honour of Venus against the impious virgin who refused to burn incense on her altars. Their violence, however, was commonly disappointed, and the seasonable interposition of some miraculous power preserved the chaste spouses of Christ from the dishonour even of an involuntary defeat. We should not indeed neglect to remark that the more ancient as well as authentic memorials of the church are seldom polluted with these extravagant and indecent fictions” (DEF v.1, ch.16, pp.538-539)

Emperor Domitian (90's CE) - an able emperor, but remembered for his Christian persecutions - Gibbon points out that these persecutions involved only a handful of people - hardly a vicious state policy of religious murder and intolerance

Persecutions: On the Small Number of Martyrs
Gibbon notes that Origen (early 200’s) considers the total number of martyrs to be inconsiderable (very few in Origen’s words “oligoi – Origen advers.Celsum 1.iii) (DEF v.1, ch.16, p.540, fn.72).

In Gibbon’s words: “The martyrs, devoted to immediate execution by the Roman magistrates, appear to have been selected from the most opposite extremes. They were either bishops and presbyters, the persons the most distinguished among the Christians by their rank and influence, and whose example might strike terror into the whole sect; or else they were the meanest and most abject among them, particularly those of the servile condition, whose lives were esteemed of little value, and whose sufferings were viewed by the ancients with too careless an indifference. The learned Origen, who, from his experience as well as readings, was intimately acquainted with the history of the Christians, declares, in the most express terms, that the number of martyrs was very inconsiderable. His authority would alone be sufficient to annihilate that formidable army of martyrs, whose relics, drawn for the most part from the catacombs of Rome, have replenished so many churches, and whose marvellous achievements have been the subject of so many volumes of holy romance. But the general assertion of Origen may be explained and confirmed by the particular testimony of his friend Dionysius, who, in the immense city of Alexandria, and under the rigorous persecution of Decius, reckons only ten men and seven women who suffered for the profession of the Christian name”. (DEF v.1, ch.16, pp.540-541).

Many Thai J-Rock fans blamed Thai artists that they copied Japanese songs. In fact, they should believe in ability of Thai people, or say just, coincident or Japanese artists copy Thai things. Although one case is true, that does not mean other million cases have to be just like the first one.

One of my friend that I met when I just had been a J-Rock fan, always told me that a Thai band called, Giwa copies his beloved Luna Sea. I was so young, and I did believe him. I believe many things flood around world wide web. Thai J-Rock fans keep post this kind of thing up. They matched short parts of some Japanese songs and Thai songs, and they said that Thai artist copies Japanese artists. Most of the parts they matched are less than 10 seconds, and it is very easy that musicians can think about the same thing. It is coincident rather that coping.

Thai people are not stupid, because they can own many copyrights they make by themselves. Thai people can work so well if a reward/award is waiting for them, such as world robot competition, or sport tournament. Naturally, Thai people do not like to step up without motivation. Thai musicians have a lot of motivation, especially pop-rock artists after 2000. Pop-Rock in Thailand have been popular again after 20-30 years. Between 2 eras, Thai people consumed much of sweet-pop songs. Many bands was founded in late 10 years, and many old bands did re-union. The boys want to be cool, especially for the sight of girls. They created a unique style of Thai Pop-Rock. Many songs may sound similar, because those kids grew up with pop songs. Some people are different, because they listen to other things, such as Thai country songs and other foreigners’ things.

I am the one who really like Thai country songs. If we do not count the style of voice and Thai instrument, many fast songs can be popular in Alternative-Rock/Pop world. Both sound very similar. Many Thai people also listen to Rock n’ Roll artist from the United States and Europe. They get the influence directly from the original rock bands, and they do not need to past J-Rock artist. Some Thai people also listen to J-Rock and do cover, but there is less percent.

Clash is another band that Thai J-Rock fans blames that they mimic “Forever Love” of X Japan in their song called, “Nangfa Naijai” (Angle in Mind). I do know both songs so well, and I cannot find that Clash really copies that songs. They are same type of music, but not the same song. Although Clash did cover of L’Arc~en~Ciel, it does not mean that they do not have brain to compose their own music. I am a Punk fan, and many Punk songs are similar. Let’s listen to sample of DecayDance things. They are similar and they are good!

Another important conflict is the song call, “Ter Mai Kir Tai” (You Have Never Died) of a Thai band called, Two (they have 2 members.). My parent keeps that albums, too. The famous guy named, Tong. He helped around many projects. Thai people know that he is really nice. Right now he is older, but he just looks the same. I do not know if this nice guy hears what some people are railing him. I pass around the websites, many Thai X Japan fans railed “Two”. Unbelievable, I saw a guy wrote, “Two-Kuy”. “Kuy” (ควย) is the rudest word in Thai Language. He blamed Thai artists who did not know what X Japan was about. The company always manages things for pop artists, and the only thing that the pop artists need to have is the great performance.

I did look through the track list of that album of “Two”, and style of X Japan songs. (It is 2 years, I was their fan, my early high school.) The melody is weird for Japanese songs, but the song composer is weird in “Two” albums. I could not say, but the news already said that. They said, Thai company has to pay for Yoshiki. I do not want to believe. It is just the late visits of Yoshiki in Thailand. So,… My early high school time, a senior guy who was a friend of “Yai” (Yai was known as a big fan of X Japan in our school.) told me about this conflict. “Two did release “Ter Mai Kir Tai” before X Japan release Say Anything”. If I can go back to that moment, I will never show the goat hand to him. I did,.., I did that hand. He ran behind me and tried to kill me. Where was my soul of Thai person? I had had it when I was a boy scout. I did respect King Rama VI. I love his firmly goal to make Thai people to love each other as one big family.

The news was unbelievable for many people. That song sound quite like Thai songs, and the lyrics can fit in so well. No matter what the reality is, but if there is no that song, many Thai people will never be fans of X Japan.

There is another conflict of Neo Universe of L’Arc en Ciel, but that is a little thing. I think it is coincident, because it is just a small part of the song. Most of Thai L’Arc en Ciel fans are still young and rich, and they do not really care to talk about the past, because they look up the new stuff, and they talked a lot. I have many friends who like this band, that is why I can say. Like, once I met Kaun with her L’Arc book in a school bus, and we just began to talk although we had never known each other. We talked a lot. It is familiar in American people, but unusual for Thai people. (I am smiling.)

The main thing I would like to say is, Thai people always look down themselves. Many foreign songs were composed after Thai songs. Whenever they sounds the same, Thai people will say that Thai copied those foreigners.

There are other cases, such as Peace Maker’s songs and Josh Groban’s, and also the hair style and dress style of Thai teenager. Although the idea cannot be Copyrights, people keeps railing that style of dressing is wrong things. This may be only one attitude in a corner of Thailand, because most people do not care (me, too). They dress up and they want to be cool.

Let’s see the side of Thailand. What the songs that Thai artists composed before the foreigner and they sound the same! I am an audience and also an artist, and I will never say that they mimic each other. Many people can think about the same thing. The one part of melody or similar style cannot prove that that artist is the copier.

Paradox is so great at their show. Almost all songs of Paradox sound more modern than Hide’s. Paradox tend to be Alternative Rock, which is really popular in Western world such the United States and the United Kingdom. Hide is more into underground alternative rock, which can be found in both LA and NY. Although Hide did a lot of underground style, those songs are not popular. Hide’s songs which are popular are something modern; such as In Motion, Tell Me, Lemoned I Scream, Ever Free, Post and Honey Blade.

TarTar, the vocalist and music composer and lyricist of Paradox. He is very talented!

Rong Rean Kong Nu is so classic, too. This song is very old, but still catching people’s hearts. If you know Thai language, you will cry since the first time you listen to it. It is strange that The Academy is… has the same stuff. The world is so coincident. I played Rong Rean Kong Nu on Harmonica, too. This song is about children who have a hard time to get to school. They lived on the mountain and their school is really faraway. They have to walk step by step. They love to go to school. This song reflect the city society that many children do not like the go to school, although they are so rich and very easy to go to school.

Oh hey! you know that Tusk Zi:Kill is a fan of AC DC (he might be a fan of Obama, too), but I am not sure about Ken. Zi:Kill did play Suffocate City of Sex Pistol. I do not know about their copyrights, because they do not blame any people who re-play their songs, too. Zi:Kill is so fun. Tusk draw “Z” during this show. (I am smiling) If you let me compare about “For those about to Rock” and “Rocket”, you can be sure that I do love Rocket. The guitarist of Zi:Kill always have a wonderful line. His solo is always optimistic and never ever boring.

Your favorite artist does not have to be the first one who create the things. We should be very happy that someone thinks the same as our favorite artists. And now, we start to listen to the new things!! Our world is not just a box that other people cannot touch. We will never look down other people just because we want to praise our heroes.

Poco a poco nos va llegando nueva información sobre la “versión extendida” del sensacional “Street Fighter IV”. La revista japonesa “Famitsu” ha publicado una serie de imágenes en las que se presentan 3 luchadores nuevos: Adón (el temible alumno de Sagat), Guy y Cody (los protagonistas del legendario “Final Fight”). En el caso de Cody desgraciadamente será igual que en “Street Fighter Alpha 3″ : un ex-presidiario (que poco creible resulta el giro a este personaje).

De momento parece que mis predicciones sobre la nueva plantilla de luchadores se van cumpliendo parcialmente (esperaba a Haggar en lugar de Guy). Lo que os puedo asegurar es que entre los próximos personajes que van a presentar seguro que, al menos,  un par de ellos procederán de “Street fighter III”.

La suma de 8 luchadores nuevos,  el aumento de modos de juego, el reajuste de personajes , las nuevas fases de bonus… todo apunta a que las mejoras serán suficientes para que “Super Street Fighter IV” sea tan exitoso como su antecesor, superando lo que era prácticamente insuperable. Lo podremos comprobar en la segunda mitad de 2010.

We continue in this chapter (Chapter 16) with a history of Christian persecutions by the empire.

Gibbon begins this section with a single page-long paragraph, a mellifluous paean of faith, proclaiming the inestimable riches and unapproachable excellence of Christianity and its author, Jesus. This marks the beginning of a wild see-sawing of arguments – first, a few paragraphs of righteously triumphant absolute blinkered orthodoxy, followed by page after page of cutting sarcasm regarding Christianity and the early church.

It makes for somewhat schizophrenic reading.

And oftentimes the doctrine-followed-by-skepticism schtik seems contrived to me – patently a sop offered to conservative churchgoers to soften the blow of devastating attacks to follow. This pattern happens more than once in this chapter.

Also there’s a little anti-Catholic (anti-Pope), and anti-semitism rearing their ugly heads in this section (and previous ones) – just instances of late 18th century English cultural values of the upper class showing up as expected.

Nero 'fiddles' while Rome burns - then persecutes the Christians - Gibbon senses something false in the whole story - the fiddling makes no sense, and the Christian persecution seems bizarre

A very roundabout way to say the Jews (once again) betrayed the Christians. A strange, and unlikely speculation about why Christians were Nero’s scapegoats.

Masada, the Jewish stronghold taken by the Romans in the 70's (under Claudius) - the men killed their wives and children first then took their own lives just before the Romans breached the wall. That ramp/road you see in the picture is the ACTUAL SIEGE RAMP built by the Romans to take the fortress almost 2000 years ago

Interestingly, Gibbon also describes in a footnote (DEF, v.1, ch.16, fn.42) Judas’ grandson Eleazar defending a mountaintop against Roman siege (during Claudius reign a few decades later) and dying to a man, after first killing their wives and sons and daughters. Odd to hear of Masada, being referenced as an unknown, strange historical interlude in a text from the later 1770’s

Vatican city - Gibbon points out - raised on the ground of Nero's gardens and circuses - the site of the deaths of the first Christian persecution - he is sometimes embarrasingly anti-catholic

I cannot believe I, like,  broke my, like, promise. I actually didn’t have a lot of, like, stuff yesterday. I, like, went to school and came home. So in my, like, grade there have been major, like, social stuff. So, this kid named… I’m gonna say but let’s call him, like, Ken. So Ken said to another girl named… Kelly that, like, he wanted to go out. She said yes but she and the rest of our grade didn’t know that Ken was going out with another girl named… Greta. So, like, Greta is loser-ish and, um, she not so, like, social. Greta doesn’t really follow all of the who’s, like, going out and stuff. Greta doesn’t know about Kelly and Kelly doesn’t know about Greta. I don’t even know why Ken is, like, going out with Greta she’s, like, really ugly. Well, I know all of this, like, stuff ’cause Ken swore me to secrecy and, like, if you know I CANNOT keep a secret so, like, I had to tell someone, like, you know? I really hope I, like, made up for the, like, missed day. I know that like no one reads my blog and stuff but still. Oh Emfrea Kingjee!
