Fountain Park is ‘thriving’ after opening ten years ago due to offering credit crunch suffering Edinburgers’ an alternate to costly nights out.

The leisure park has become one of Edinburgh’s most popular hotspots with an average daily attendance figure of 10,000 people.

Napier business guru Robert Wilkinson said, “While it is always great to see businesses doing well during the recession, we are talking about large organisations here. There are still many small companies going out of business every day in Britain. Fountain Park has the luxury of providing people with a cheap alternate to going on a big night out and that is why it continues to thrive in these hard times.”

While the majority of the businesses are now settled and successfully beating the recession, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing as long-serving cinema employee Alan Stevens, 28, remembers.

He said, “I have been here since the cinema was owned by Virgin and have seen many businesses come and go in that time. There used to be a huge nightclub on the corner we’d all go to and an Italian restaurant that closed after a few months. As much as I miss that club, it’s cool that Circus opened a casino and Nandos have a restaurant now.”

The retail complex currently boasts a 13 screen cinema, bowling, casino, gym, bingo, pubs and restaurants.

Cineworld Cinemas Operations Manager, Mark Smith said, “The cinema has gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years and we have achieved an excellent financial profit in our review of this year. In fact this is Cineworld Edinburgh’s first year ever that we have managed over a million admits.”

The popularity of Fountain Park and in particular the Cineworld cinema has led to hosting the prestigious Edinburgh International Film Festival which attracts people from all over the world into the capital. The crowning glory of Fountain Park’s history came two years ago when film stars Keira Knightly and Sienna Miller walked down the red carpet for the world premier of ‘The Edge of Love’

Giving thanks on Thanksgiving is a somewhat artificial tradition, wherein we feel compelled by our culture to be grateful. The presumption is that without Thanksgiving, we wouldn’t remember to be grateful. This is hardly a good way to lead your life, being thankful only once a year. It’s an archaic, patriarchal philosophy. But the truth is that in times of great suffering, we hardly remember to be thankful for what we have. Thanksigiving may be a poor excuse to remember what the world has given you, but that’s what a blog is for!

A Louisiana real estate agent showing a house got to the basement and found about 100 human bones in a corner.

James Kenny, a forensic investigator with the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office, says the bones found were so old that dirt had saturated the marrow inside them. He says they probably are remains of Native Americans buried long before the house was built.

Kenny says he learned that the previous residents would often find bones while mowing the lawn or doing yard work, and would put them in the basement.

Half of the split-level house is on top of a circular mound, which parish officials suggest may be an Indian burial mound.

Neither the agent nor the home’s owner would talk to The Courier of Houma.

Apparently I am.

Kenny and Luke were playing legos and I overheard Kenny say, “No, Luke, I get to be mommy because she’s the boss of the house.” 

Eric is going to love that.

Kenny had a Thanksgiving feast at school today.  The kids dressed up in their Indian gear and ate a lot of turkey, ham, muffins, popcorn and fruit.

This was one of Kenny’s homework assignments.  We had to work together to disguise our turkey so he would be safe on Thanksgiving Day.  We turned ours into a leprechaun at the end of a rainbow.  

Luke (of course) had to try on Kenny’s outfit once we got home.

…Except that I don’t save people at night. Instead, I watch Family Outing; a Korean Variety Show and laugh out loud as if I’m in my own world, in the middle of the night.

Since the Frankfurt trip, I’ve had a hard time to doze off early. Before, at 10/11pm, I’d be already lying on my bed, did some reading and within 30 minutes or so, I was already sound asleep.

But now, it’s IMPOSSIBLE to sleep that early. The earliest that I could go to bed to, would be at 2am. As usual, I’d do some reading and SUPPOSEDLY at 2.30am, I would have already asleep. But instead, I would ONLY start sleeping at 3.30/4am. When that happens during weekends, it’s ok.  Since it happens during weekdays too, the result is I have skipped quite plenty of classes these past 2 weeks.

And the worst part is, lately I’ve been dreaming a lot of being chased by a King Cobra snake. Even though there are other characters appeared in my dream, the snake just keeps chasing me.

Like such as, there was one dream. And in that dream, there were Hawe, Farah, Ejum and I. We were hanging out somewhere in Rosenheim, and then out of nowhere, the crowd was running as if there was something chasing them. We were staggering and stopped in the middle of the running crowd. Then, the view was clear. We could see exactly what was chasing them and now, it was chasing us. We ran; completely in different direction but ironically it just kept chasing me; The King Cobra snake. Screaming at the top of  my lung, I ran on the table and chairs, around the pillars, in and out of the shops and I swear I didn’t even provoke the snake but still, I was the one it was after. While I was running, I wondered why it was chasing me since Hawe or Farah or Ejum has nicer bum; especially Hawe’s; than I do. BUT WHY ME????Ok. That dream was not about the BUM. But still, WHY ME????

So, every time when I wake up, I feel so tired (because of the continuous running in the dream; as if the chasing is real) and sometimes out of breath. Sigh. And now, I’m paranoid of sleeping on my own bed or in my room. Before sleeping, I’d check behind and below my bed, have a look at the corners of the room, checking out and making sure that there is no REAL snake in my room. And EVERY NIGHT, I would recite Ayatul Kursi, which I think is a good thing though. But sometimes, I feel REALLY tired of getting chased, by a King Cobra some more. When I tell Kesayangan about this, he just laughs out loud; he thinks it’s funny and says that “It’s just a dream sayang”. I had the same thought too, at first. But if in a week, you dream of the same thing 3/4 times, I don’t think it’s that funny.

Then, I was worried about catching up in my studies due to lack of attendance to class. My notes were not organized and not complete; I didn’t have some of the latest “Skriptum”. Luckily, I have a very nice and caring German friend. She had helped me by lending me her notes and telling me where I could get the copy of the latest “Skriptum” and she would even text me, to tell whether there would be any canceled class that week.

But now, I’m worried about my brain. After reading Asma’s post on brain damaging post, I’ve jotted them down on my sticky notes and pin it on my small schwarzes Brett. Every now and then, I would fleetingly have a look  at my schwarzes Brett and automatically I’d read the sticky notes. Written perfectly on that sticky note; 6. Sleep Deprivation. Ahah. One of the habits that can damage our brain is SLEEP DEPRIVATION.

NOTE:  SLEEP DEPRIVATION. Sounds…erkkk…like me!

I know…I know…some people would say, “Why are you freaking out???The effect will only take place if you do it continuously and it will happen in a long-term though”. Oh yeah. I agree but I AM STILL FREAKING OUT. I don’t want to be stupid or be just another person in Amsterdam who has a drift after smoking weed but the difference is, even though I don’t smoke weed, I can still act like one due to my damaging brain.

I mean tempus fugit right? When you think it will affect you in a long-term, as time goes by, and then you realize it is no longer considered as “long-term” anymore. It has eventually become “short-term”.

Ughh. MUST SLEEP EARLY. MUST HAVE ENOUGH SLEEP. CANNOT BE STUPID. AND NO MORE SNAKES CHASING ME.

Sometimes I get touchy about word choice.

Guess who going to do the 5k now - Kenny.  He’s going to walk with me (after I was sick for so long, I’m not ready to run the whole thing).  We did 2.55 miles today in 47 minutes.  So, I think we’ll finish right around 55 minutes (but hopefully we’ll go faster). 

Don’t worry about waiting for us afterwards.

Our Christmas tree is up and the inside of our house is decorated for the holidays.  I didn’t take out as many decorations as usual.  I figure that less is best (or safer) this year with Luke and Mac running wild in the house.

The Ruins airs Wednesday at 10pm EST in the US and Sundays at 10pm EST.

In an extremely disappointing one-day match at the T&N Smeda Stadium, the home team thrashed the visiting Douglasdale Cricket Club within 2 hours of play. Opting to bat first, the visitors posed no threat against the fast bowlers, and one should consider whether Douglasdale is a viable opposition in such a competitive league. They could only manage a total of 41, which allowed for excellent limited-overs figures for Tim Fox(4/5) and Chris Hayward(3/8). Needing only 33 balls to pull off the 10-wicket victory, Geoff Kenny(22*) and Matt O’Shea(21*) did it in style.

O’Shea had very little good to say about the match, “Just pathetic. No disrespect to the players on the other team, but they should not be allowed in this particular league where the competition is great. While we are happy with the 4 log points and some good bowling figures, very little was achieved in terms of performance improvement”.

This was the last episode of the 13th season of South Park. That makes me sad. Wednesday nights will be forever emptier because of this. Well, not forever more. They’ll be better again in a few months when South Park is back.

In this episode, the boys go to the local water park, Pi Pi’s, where Kyle opts to stay out of the water indefinitely due to its incredibly high concentration of urine. Cartman, however, is disappointed for other reasons: the water park is filled with minorities.

Black people.

Mexicans.

This, of course, is less stated than it is sung in a beautiful song. Trey Parker is quite the composer – always has been. Indeed, Cartman predicts that the Mayans got the year of the Apocalypse wrong and that rather then 2012, it’s actually happening in 2009, since the water park has been taken over by minorities and Cartman is the “last of his kind.”

When warned that the pee content of his water park is so high that the park is on the verge of disaster, Pi Pi does nothing – to the detriment of human kind . . . well, human kind currently in attendance at his water park. With the urination of one final little girl, the water becomes 100% pee and disaster ensues. Everything goes to hell – in Cartman’s eyes, the Mayan Apocalypse.

In order to drain the pee from the park, Kyle has to hold his breath and swim through it down to an underwater release valve, but in order to do that he must first drink pee in order to avoid the bends. Since pee grosses him out so much, this is obviously a monumental task. It’s pretty hilarious listening to the other boys be honest about all the things they do related to pee that Kyle considers unacceptable:

- pee in the shower

- pee in the pool

- not wash their hands after peeing

Gross!! I’d never not wash my hands after peeing. Yeah . . . never . . .

Obviously the moment Kyle drank the pee they were all rescued, since is was discovered that the antidote to anger caused by the overexposure to pee is bananas. And yes, the part where the monkeys got angry while getting urinated on was hilarious and disgusting.

Funny enough, I loved that Kyle hated bananas so much and had to eat one after drinking the pee. Why? My wife loves most foods but HATES bananas. She finds them revolting, particularly the smell. Sometimes to be cruel when we’re at the grocery store I’ll hold a bunch of bananas behind her head and then say her name so that she turns around and finds them there. She hates that. I’m very mature.

This wasn’t a killer episode like a few of the other poignant ones this season, but it was amusing, particularly the unbearably racist sentiments that got called out and exposed for being illogical: minorities are beginning to make up the majority. Get used to it. It’s okay and that’s where things were going. We’re all immigrants – thanks White Stripes.

An interesting aside: there was a commercial for Avatar during South Park, which is interesting because last week’s episode made fun of Avatar and showed South Park being really angry that the movie was ripping off something else (I asked what that something else was but nobody knew to tell me).

I LOVE the show Glee.  It’s one of my favorite shows on television.

I like Glee so much that I actually endured half an episode of the Tyra Banks Show the other day because the cast was on.

I think the show is funny and the writing is so clever.  I laugh every time I watch.

However, while watching the episode that aired last Wednesday, Glee did something I never expected.  Glee made me cry!
Well, cry is a strong word… I’m not much of a crier… but it did get me all choked up and watery eyed.

And here’s the reason why.
Meet my brother, Kenny:

Kenny is 13 moths older than me and is my only sibling.  And Kenny has Downs Syndrome.

If you missed it, in last week’s episode of Glee, we learned that Sue Sylvester (who is very rarely nice, tries to destroy the glee club, and always delivers the most memorable lines of the show) has a softer side.  We discover this when we meet Sue’s older sister who has Downs Syndrome.

Growing up with a brother with Downs Syndrome has had a huge impact on who I am today.  In a lot of good ways and maybe even some bad ways.
We fight just like any other brother and sister, and there have been a couple of times in my life when I really didn’t want much to do with him at all, but really, Kenny is one of the best people I have ever gotten to know.  Everyone who meets him just loves him.

He is funny, smart, creative, and he thinks the world of his “baby sister.”
And Kenny is the reason I want to write.
I know when I was younger I would have loved to have someone to tell me that I wasn’t alone in the thoughts and feelings I had (and still have) when interacting with my brother.  Granted, there are some resources out there, but not a lot of good ones.

Anyway, there’s a lot more that I will be sharing about my brother as we go along.  :-)

I signed Kenny up for bible school this year at our church.  He goes for an hour and a half, once a week.  I was a little worried because his class is made up of 3-5 year olds.  Kenny’s a really smart kid (and I’m not just saying that because I’m his mom) so I was a little worried that he wouldn’t learn enough with the younger kids.  But then he sang us this song yesterday:

I think he’s doing just fine right where he’s at.
