Thanksgiving is coming up! Get ready for your turkeys and whatever-else-you-people-eat on this SUPER COOL HOLIDAY. Okay, okay, that’s enough.

Aaanyways it got me thinkin’ about the whole story of pilgrims and indians sharing before the manslaughter and I thought ‘Hey! didn’t we see a few things reminiscent of this just now?’ Or more like lots of the collections I’ve managed to flip through seem to lean to either end of the spectrum: most of them have voted for their own spin on the classic, earth toned, religious and sometimes militarized pilgrim variation with laces and tulles and coats. For example:

Alexis Mabille’s Fall Couture 2009. I liked this collection, made me think of porcelain dolls in the non-creepy way. Simple, light colors with added contrast and lotsa frilly girly beautiful lace. Kinda looked like they were wearing doilies, and we all know doilies = UBER SEXYNESS

ohyeah. SEXY BABY.

All in all, the collection was good, but not great. It got a bit plain at times (this ain’t the first time we see ribbons and pastels) and something about it reminded me of Alexander McQueen’s RTW Fall ‘08

See? Lotsa lace, very feminine, only more hardcore and LOTS more poof.

As for those who went indian this season, we’ve got mucho prints, tribal themes here and there, and obviously tons of focus on the awesome accesories. Kenzo RTW Spring ‘10 has some amazing prints; a shining example for the rest.

As for accesories, well, there’s A LOT of stuff to show this season, going from Bottega Veneta’s awesome woven-like bags and wedges and Giambattista Valli’s tribal clutches to the resin, turquoise and bead necklaces of Phillippe Ferrandis and Sophia Kokosalaki’s ethnic gold creations.  There’s also a few things I’d like to highlight about my lovely little country, especially a thing called Cali Exposhow, held every year in a city called (you guessed it!) Cali.

Usually I don’t really like hate most of what I see in my national fashion shows, due to their lack of thinking-out-of-the-box-ness, less-than-amazing styling, bad materials and the overall tacky look when the ideas are actually good.

However! I pride myself on the accesories, because they can be edgy (not common, but I’ve seen ‘em), ethnic, classy, and just about anything. My favorite part is how they get to be so outlandishly colorful without being like OMFG AGATHA RUIZ DE LA PRADA YOU BLINDED ME (but I don’t mean it like that because she’s actually AWESOME).

Well I do love chocolate and coffee too but I have a soft spot for chestnuts dating back from my childhood. Chestnut translates to chata^igne or marron. I spent all my summers with my grandmother Paulette in Brive la Gaillarde in Correze. Basically in the South center of France where winters can be very cold and nutritious food such as nuts are a staple in local recipes. I like plain roasted chestnuts but it is the sugary version that has become comfort food for me. It can add up in calories so I am making low calories version with Splenda but here are my favorite French desserts with chestnut.

1. Chesnut spread

Chestnut, vanilla and sugar mashed together. Some people use it as jam, I think it works straight from the spoon (like Nutella) or mixed in with plain yogurt.

2. The legendary marron glace

Very expensive because the cooking process is very long and difficult. It is presented in individual gold wrappers as they are very fragile. They have always been a little too sweet for me.

3- Macaron a la chataigne

4- Mont Blanc

The traditional French Xmas dessert (the Xmas log) can be made with chesnuts . Either in a frozen version with vanilla and pear. Or with chocolate in the more traditional way (with biscuit and butter). Lenotre has announced the release for this Xmas of a Buche designed with Kenzo with chestnut and green tea!!! Hope I will be in Paris to taste it.

Ze heeft ook het perfecte modellenfiguur. Benen die ultraslank en lang zijn. Zoals je kunt zien op de

foto’s hieronder. Haar stijl is leuk. Ze probeert steeds wel weer iets anders uit.

Ze houdt van een stoere look met vrouwelijk touch, zoals high heels, juwelen en bont. Hopelijk nep bont.

Ik vind haar een heel mooi meisje. Een heel zacht gezicht waar ik van hou.

Ik kom erachter dat ze jonger is dan mij! Dat had ik niet verwacht. Had haar niet veel ouder geschat, maar

jonger! Ze is geboren op 30 november 1989 in Georgia. Ze staat onder contract bij Ford Models. Ook heeft

ze dit jaar voor het eerst voor Victoria Secret gelopen. Ik denk dat we nog veel meer van haar gaan horen.

Katsui graduated from Central Saint Martins College after studying at Parsons The New School for Design. Yagi graduated from Doshisha University and Central Saint Martins College.
The brand, mintdesigns was launched in 2001. They have been in Tokyo Collection since ‘03 S/S. The awards they won include the Moet et Chandon New Designer’s Award in 2005. In 2007, mintdesigns garage store opened in Shibuya PARCO. They presented their collection in the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT THIS PLAY! show. In 2008, they presented the opening show at São Paulo Fashion Week for ‘09 S/S. Both designers currently hold positions as guest professors at the Faculty of Art and Design at Osaka Seikei University. In 2009 they presented their collection at the Milano Salone TOKYO FIBER ‘09.Mint Designs turned out a dainty crop of dresses featuring details such as shimmery stripes, textured fabric and quirky graphics. One frock featured a darling print of tiny Charlie Chaplins, while another showcased circular cutouts along the sides.

After the exhibition at the Petit Palais, the Museum of Fine Arts in Paris, save the date of the Designer Frimousses dolls auction on 19 November at Drouot Montaigne, Paris’s prestigious auction house. Since 2003, fashion designers and artists have worked to create something beautiful to help children of Darfur, crafting dolls that become veritable works of art. The whole amount raised during the auction will support the vaccination programme in one of the regions most devastated by the deadly conflict there. Today, more than 4.7 million people are affected, of which 2.2 million are children. Thanks to the Designer Frimousse operation, under the aegis of Laeticia Hallyday, ambassador for UNICEF France, UNICEF carries out the fight for children vaccination every year in the region of Darfur. Vaccination, a method that is both very effective and inexpensive, would prevent these deadly diseases from a very young age (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio) and would eradicate this scourge that affects thousands of children every day. The 2008 sale raised 219,130 Euros, used directly on the ground to finance emergency : in the Darfur region, 260,000 children and 195,000 pregnant women received vaccines. Don’t forget these dolls will be sold at auction on 19 November at Drouot Montaigne:

L’édition Frimousses de Créateurs 2008 a permis d’envoyer sur le terrain 219 130 € pour financer les activités de vaccination en urgence. 260 000 enfants et 198 000 femmes enceintes recevront des vaccins. Avec un actionnariat majoritairement détenu par la famille allemande Benckiser, le groupe de parfums et cosmétiques Coty, de droit américain, aime à cultiver une stricte politique du secret. Créée en 1904 par le Français François Coty, cette société, qui réalise la moitié de son chiffre d’affaires grâce aux parfums Calvin Klein, vend les fragrances des griffes Cerruti, Chloé, Davidoff, Jil Sander, Marc Jacobs ou Lagerfeld… et des parfums de célébrités tels que Céline Dion ou David Beckham, qui font fureur aux Etats-Unis ou au Royaume-Uni.

Très implanté outre-Atlantique, le parfumeur a subi la crise de plein fouet. “En deux ans, les ventes de parfums s’y sont contractées de 18 %, malgré leur progression sur Internet”, explique au Monde Michele Scannavini, président de Coty Prestige. Ce qui a obligé le groupe à procéder à des licenciements. Les ventes ont fondu de 4 milliards à 3,7 milliards lors de l’exercice clos en juillet 2009.

M. Scannavini reste toutefois optimiste : “On commence à voir quelques signaux positifs, le grand phénomène de déstockage est presque fini et les ventes redeviennent régulières, en phase avec les ventes effectuées.” Il parie sur une amélioration des ventes, un peu par défaut, au premier semestre 2010, parce que la base de comparaison – le premier semestre 2009 – s’est révélée franchement mauvaise.

La crise, tangible surtout sur le marché américain, n’a en tout cas pas retardé ni reporté les lancements de nouveaux parfums. Le plus emblématique pour Coty sera Balenciaga Paris, en février 2010. Certains se souviennent encore des parfums mythiques de la maison comme Cristobal, Le Dix, Le Talisman ou La Fuite des heures. La licence des parfums Balenciaga est caduque “depuis quatre ans”, précise Isabelle Guichot, présidente de la maison de couture (filiale de Gucci, donc de PPR).

Artisan du renouveau de la marque, le designer Nicolas Ghesquière a renoué avec l’héritage des parfums. Après un apprentissage éclair aux rudiments de cet univers, le styliste a travaillé main dans la main avec le nez choisi par la maison, Olivier Polge. “Nicolas est arrivé avec une demi-savonnette, des souvenirs, des odeurs d’enfance comme l’encaustique et un attrait pour les fleurs fraîches”, dit-il. En huit mois, ce parfum a vu le jour : il est chypré, aux essences de vetyver, de cèdre et de patchouli, à base de violettes rehaussées d’une pointe de piment.

Odeur fétiche

Isabelle Guichot parie sur un retour sur investissement la deuxième année et des profits l’année suivante. Fabriqué en France, à Chartres, vendu cher (75 euros les 50 ml d’eau de parfum), il sera commercialisé dans un circuit très restreint, chez 15 % à 20 % des distributeurs sélectifs mondiaux. “On était très pressés, on aurait aimé le sortir plus tôt, mi-2009, mais bien nous en a pris, nous serions tombés au plein coeur de la crise”, explique la présidente de Balenciaga.

Selon Philippe Benacin, PDG d’Interparfums (Burberry, Lanvin, Van Cleef & Arpels, etc.), le marché français du parfum est estimé à 1,6 milliard d’euros en 2008. e janvier à juillet 2009, il a baissé de 1,4 %. “C’est un marché très mature, dont le potentiel de croissance ou de décroissance est faible (de + 3 % à – 2 %) “, dit-il. Un atout en période de crise. Avec une caractéristique, les consommateurs sont très attachés à leur odeur fétiche : les ventes de nouveaux parfums ne représentent que 10 % à 15 % du marché. Une compétition d’autant plus rude que les griffes sortent une trentaine de nouvelles fragrances par an sur un total de 500 nouveautés.

En France, le marché reste largement dominé par L’Oréal, Chanel et Parfums Christian Dior (LVMH). Selon une récente étude de Plimsoll sur les 329 sociétés françaises de fabrication de parfums et de produits cosmétiques, 125 ont atteint des “performances financières remarquables, avec une croissance des ventes de plus de 4 %, une marge de bénéfice moyenne de 9,2 % et un endettement inexistant”. Le cabinet d’études juge qu’en 2008, Interparfums, Jacques Bogart, Jean Paul Gaultier, Kenzo, Cartier, Christian Dior et Ted Lapidus affichent une note financière “forte”, là où Chanel, Guerlain, Mugler et Givenchy sont “bons”, tandis qu’YSL, Caron ou Nina Ricci sont “en danger” et Annick Goutal et Rochas dans une situation “préoccupante”.

Au niveau européen, le marché du parfum a très légèrement augmenté en 2008 (+0,4 %) à 10,7 milliards d’euros, selon le Colipa, l’association européenne des industriels du secteur. La France caracole en tête des ventes, devant l’Allemagne, le Royaume-Uni et l’Italie. La cible des consommateurs – largement dominée par les femmes – s’élargit aux adolescent(e)s et aux hommes. Comme dans les autres secteurs du luxe, le Colipa parie sur une croissance des pays émergents. Notamment le Brésil, qui, “d’ici à 2013, pourrait devenir un marché comparable à l’Amérique du Nord et au Japon”.

Så nu har jag gjort en första screening av de tre inredningsmagasinen som landade i brevlådan. En snabb sammanfattning ger; färg i Sköna Hem och Hus & Hem, svartvitt i Residence.

Jag tycker att det är lite grann som att fuska att inreda i bara svart och vitt; ingen kan misslyckas och ingen kan i princip få ett spännande hem heller. Och så är det fruktansvärt oinspirerande att titta på.

Men den som vågar slänga in lite färg, vågar också bjuda på sin personlighet vare sig andra delar ens passion för gult, fuschia, orange eller vad det nu månde vara. Vi är så försiktiga i Skandinavien, nog för att vi behöver allt ljus vi kan få men allt måste inte vara vitt, beige, offwhite och på sin höjd kaffe latte. Eller svart. Bara vi förflyttar oss till Storbritannien vågar sig inredningsarkitekterna på färg, textilier och mjukare former. Vi kan skratta åt deras heltäckningsmattor och faibless för blommigt men det är betydligt mer inbjudande än en vitmålad hall med tre meter i tak och en stol i betong och järn som enda dekoration i andra änden. Tycker jag.

Själv har jag börjat drömma om en soffa som riktigt sticker i ögat, som stjäl all uppmärksamhet, som inbjuder till gos, godis och bus (i tanken dvs, i praktiken vet nu att ingen annan kommer att få sitta där än jag). Just nu har vi en i fegisbeige med lite kuddar i färg men tänk att vända på ägget, att köra soffan galet rosa, varmorange eller varför inte mönstrad? Jo, det vill jag nog faktiskt göra den dag jag blir rik.

Okay, I know that Paris Fashion Week ended a couple of weeks ago, but it took me a while to look at all of the shows because (1) They are so fabulous and (2) There are so many!  The designers showing in Paris definately kept the standard of the being the best.  I was absolutely blown away by some of the shows and there were an impressive amount of collections where I loved every piece (Chanel, Tsumori Chisato, Givenchy, Rue du Mail, Valentino, Isabel Marant….to name a few).  AMAZING.  Anyway, there were many pieces that represented the trends that I’ve mentioned in the past few posts, but there were also a couple new looks that I will talk about as well.  But for the most part, for the Paris collections, anything goes!  I saw some pieces that were super structured, some that were relaxed, some pleated, some tight, bright colors, dark neturals and everything in between!  Here are some examples of what I thought were the best:

Trend: Cute Minis

Just like the rest, these are from the designers’ Spring line, but these cute little numbers are easily layered and totally in for the Fall!

Trend: Grecian Inspired Draping

This look is so flattering and serves as a great palate to add layers.

This look wasn’t as flashy or abundant on the Paris runways, but it definitely still had a presence!

These pieces are so easy to wear right now.  They are perfect with tights, a cardigan and a great belt!

Balance any outfit with this technique!  In Paris, it was mostly used with draping.

Can be tricky, but take a few pointers from Dries Van Noten; the majority of their looks were compiled of patterned layers.

New Trend: Relaxed Pants

Whereas we saw a lot of Harem cut pants on the other runways, in Paris the entire pant leg was relaxed.  But designers also used lux, flowy fabrics, to make these comfortable pieces still luxurious, chic, and ready for a night on the town.  Some are still tailored, but others remind me of a genie pant! (in a good way!)

New Trend: Tuxedo-Inspired

There were a large amount of pieces on the Paris runways that seemed to be inspired by the tuxedo.  Whether the focus is on the lapel, cumberbund, bowtie, dickey, or simply the jacket, these pieces are a great way to dress up a casual outfit.

New Trend: Textures

What’s a great way to amp up some of your pieces? Look for ones that are more than two dimensional!  Textures add a unique dynamic to your every-day outfit.  Not sure where to start?  This is a great time to get textural sweaters, a fun, textured shirt to wear under a cardigan, a furry vest, or even something as simple as a quilted accesory.
