maybe i go to a ’state school’

i might have $100,000 in student loans

‘jesus’ that seems ‘depressing’ and shitty

if i had a $100,000 car, i would crash into a tree or something

seems like a ‘quick’ way to blow $100,000

it’s okay to eat fish because they have no ‘feelings’

it’s okay to ‘belittle’ me because i have no ‘feelings’

i should write down all of my ‘hopes & dreams’ down

and fill a notebook

i should take that notebook and throw it into a fire

i could watch the notebook burn with a ‘ neutral facial expression’

i could start laughing or maybe start ’sobbing’

not sure

kinda wish there was a  ‘nyquil’ for life

‘nyquil’ could let me sleep for years

until life seems less ‘fucked’

i am really good at ‘ alienating’ people

i should win  a nobel prize under the ‘alienating’ other humans category

i don’t like bearded people

i don’t like flip flops on people

i don’t like waking up

    I had an okay week. Wednsday I had a peer court trial. I’m not supposed to be saying this about peer court, but was so much fun!! The girl who sat in front of me sneezed so funny xD  Me and Ilianna made an unbreakable vow that we wouldn’t giggle or make each other laugh. We’re like zombies now.

      Thurday, I went to Valeria’s house with Dante to bake a cake for Franky, cause Thurday was his birthday. We experimented with the cake. We added tons of sprinkles and some chocolate icing to the batter, but it came out really good. We put chocolate icing on it and wrote “RIOT!” on it with Skittles.

       On Friday, we gave Franky his cake. I had a math test and I’m pretty sure I got a C+ or lower on it. I wanted to go to McDonald’s with Ilianna, Ana, Kerri, Dahlia, Adrian, and a few more people I think but my mom said no. But later, I went to watch “Where the Wild Things Are” with Kerri, Franky, Dante, and Dahlia. The movie wasn’t as good as I expected it to be. Then, we went to Applebee’s. We had like $60 all together and we bought lots of buffalo wings and fries. And water because it was free. Franky got a free sunday because it really was his birthday. This other time we went to Applebee’s, someone said it was his birthday, but it really wasn’t. It was soo funny.  The waitress was awesome Then, we walked back to the movies and started wetting ourselves with the sprinklers that were outside. And we pretended to be Wild Things. Finally, Dante’s parents gave all of us a ride home. It was so much fun

A NEW mum gave birth on the hard shoulder during rush hour traffic after she failed to get to the hospital in time.

Kerri McAuley, 31, was five days overdue when she started to get contractions in the early hours of the morning.

An hour later they were getting closer together and her husband, Michael, 33, prepared to take her to hospital.

But as they were getting ready to leave their house in Polmont, Kerri started to worry that the baby was well on its way and asked Michael to call the ambulance.

“Very scary”

She said: “The contractions got even quicker still and then I started to think that we weren’t going to make it to the hospital in time.

“It was very scary, so we phoned for an ambulance. I struggled down the stairs and got into the ambulance.”

The ambulance staff said it would be at least half an hour before the baby was born so Michael decided to follow behind in the car.

When they hit rush hour traffic the ambulance put its siren on and cut through the jam, leaving Michael behind.

The next time he saw them they were parked on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

Michael said: “I was driving towards Stirling when I saw the ambulance parked on the hard shoulder.

“I was really worried because I thought something had gone wrong – so I pulled over further down and went and chapped on the back door.

“When Colin Abercrombie, one of the ambulance staff, opened the door he said that my son had already been born.

“I couldn’t believe it.”

9lb 5oz

Just three miles into their 14-mile drive, Kerri had shouted at the paramedics that she thought the baby was coming and they pulled over near the Earlsgate roundabout on the M9.

Evan McAuley was born a healthy 9lb 5oz on May 1 and taken to Stirling Royal Infirmary for a check up.

And after getting the all clear, Kerri and her new son were allowed to go home and join Michael and their six-year-old daughter Chloe.

Kerri said: “We went from one extreme to the other. When my daughter Chloe was born she took ages to come out.

“I went into the hospital on the Sunday and she was born on the Wednesday.

“So no one expected Evan to be so quick.”

The family, who are all doting over the new arrival, said there is no way they will ever forget the drama of his birth – even though his birth certificate says he was born in hospital.

Michael said: “The card they gave us at the hospital with Evan’s birth details on it listed ‘Grangemouth motorway’ as the place of birth.

“But they wouldn’t let us have that on the birth certificate so it was changed to Stirling Royal Infirmary.

“But we’ll always know how much trouble he caused and will tell him all about it when he’s older.”

ABC News and Grand Rounds, all in one day… now where did I put that lottery ticket?

As a stay-at-home mom for the past five years and a former educator, choosing a school for my children became a full-time job! I am joking but at times, it felt that way. Who knew choosing an elementary school for my twin boys was going to be such a process, and a stressful one at that! I’m not sure if it’s because we live in the city and DPS, like most city school systems, doesn’t have the best reputation. Do moms in the suburbs research schools to this extreme or just send their kids to their neighborhood school like my mom did with us many moons ago? When talking to my mom while going through this ordeal, she thought it was absurd how much time and effort I was putting into this search. She told me when we were growing up, like most moms in our town, she threw my siblings and myself on the yellow school bus, to the school our neighborhood was districted to. No questions asked! Oh how easy life would be if it were that simple…but it’s NOT! And questions are asked…..lots of them! Many parents want to give their children the best education out there. This means different things to different people, and that’s okay. We are united because of this.

When I first began this school quest, I was guilty of seeking out DPS schools rated with “excellent” test scores. Wasn’t this the only thing that truly mattered….test scores? I mean excellent rated schools automatically meant excellent staff, excellent curriculum, excellent kids, etc. I couldn’t wait to tour these schools. And once I did, I was a bit disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, they were great schools and lots of learning was taking place but they lacked “that something.” I didn’t get the vibe as I meandered through the hallways. And it’s all about the vibe…that gut feeling that helps you make a decision.

After a lot of soul searching, touring schools, comparing lists, talking with friends, teachers, and acquaintances, asking questions, I slowly started letting go of the test score obsession and really started to focus on other things….such as school leadership, staff, community, programs, parental involvement, curriculum, class size, etc. You see, there is more to a school than just test scores, and it took me a while to learn this.

There was a time when we seriously considered moving to the suburbs so we wouldn’t have to worry about choosing a city school and, instead, have our children attend a school like the one I grew up learning in. In the end, we stayed in the city (thank goodness), and my husband and I decided to choose a school that was much different than both the schools that we went to as children. We chose public versus private because we believe in the public school system and private was not an option for us at the time. We choiced into a school rather than attend our neigborhood school. We chose a school with a very diverse student body and socioeconomic background. This has been an education in itself. We chose a school that has made a major transformation from what it was like four years ago due to a strong parent movement and an amazing principal. It’s a Beacon School and recently was two of the only schools in Denver, to seek Innovation Status. The Secretary of Education recently visited the school to see the changes that have occurred!  Every so often, I question the decision we made, but when I see how much my boys have grown both emotionally and intellectually, and see just how thrilled they are to go to school each day, I am reassured and justified in our decision. Nothing is forever and things change, but for right now my husband and I couldn’t be happier with the education they are receiving. And it’s great to be a part of a new community!

My greatest piece of advice to all of you is… do your homework…don’t be afraid to ask questions…see a school for yourself, don’t rely on friends…think of your child and his/her needs, in what kind of school environment would they flourish the most…explore this site and get the information you need… and last but not least, trust that vibe! I’m surrounded by intelligent people for most of my day, which always drives me to learn more. The two people I work directly with each day, KerriStarr and El Mol, are two of the bunch that drive me (which all started out with M.O.L. Junior years ago). A very special thanks to Cabeeb for a huge jump start on CSS, and for being my blog tech support after hours of failing to find the answer myself.

Yep. For a week and a half, I’ve been learning CSS. No Comment. I’ve also learned how to create vector images with a few tips from a very kind friend, incredible blogger and husband of a roller derby hottie, Kyle Steed .

Not that you all (or anybody) actually need daily updates on the progress of my new blog, nor do most people care all that much. I, on the other hand, do care, and this is my blog. I’ll be excited to announce when my blog is ready, so that I can decide whether or not the 5 site hits on Google Analytics, or the 4 on WordPress Stats is correct. Either way, I won’t forget any of you on my blog roll.

(**image is just a few snippets of my new blog in his/her naked state at the moment, with a lot of filler.  So if you don’t see the beginning of your name on the tiny sliver of the blog roll up there, don’t feel left out. Not that anyone one…)

Thanks to Al and Wendy for a great holiday party’s the 2008!  I am impressed with all the food that was made by my firehouse crew!  Looks like we now know we have options for cooks in the kitchen on shift!

Kerri and Randy had a wonderful day to get married.  It was not cold… it was clear and bright and beautiful.  A lot like Kerri is.

I have enjoyed SO much getting to know her and working with her throughout the process of this wedding.  She had everything ON THE BALL and her attention to detail was fun to see and photograph.
