While most of my clients have heard about keywords, keyword searches from their own experience of surfing the web, many do not know about categories. Local Search and Maps rely on seaches by Categories.

Categories are the terms used by Yellow Page and Local Search providers to help customers find you. Google Maps and Yahoo Local use this as their base for searching. And so do mobile phones. There are over 2000 categories to choose from. But first you want to see how your company is currently listed. For this, it is simple, type in your phone number to see what comes up and click on the first site that shows your phone number. The phone numbers basic listing information is provided by your phone service provider.

Let’s say it is www.yellowpages.com or www.superpages.com. See how they have categorized your company. If it is correct. great. If it is wrong, fix it.

If your phone number does not appear at all – you have a bigger problem. It means your local phone company might not have provided them with the correct information or no information at all. Before calling them to get this updated, call directory assistance and ask for your company name. Make sure they have it. If not or if it is wrong – call them immediately. Although you might think print yellow pages are old – people do use them and the phone company is one of the most important sources of data – your data – for online searches. If it is wrong it print, it will be wrong online. If it is wrong online – you have lot’s of work to do to fix it.

Wait, I was getting side tracked or was I. In order to be aligned with getting found in local searches on the web, you must make sure your phone service provider knows the categories you want your company to be listed under. As a rule, they will not ask you, you need to tell them. Not just for paid advertising but their database so that when they Googles and the Yahoo Locals, and the CtyPages ask for your information – you will get seen and you will get clicks and calls.

What about Vonage customers? Sales Agents using a cell phone? No directory assistance 411 support for you. Therefore, you will not be in online yellow pages or google maps. A quick fix for you is to have your local company create a business phone number for you and forward it to your vonage or cell phone account. As a rule the cost will be around $12 a month. The result is that you will be in local 411 and your data will go around the web and around the world.

The first step comes in Search Engine Optimization after analyzing the market of any business is Key

The first step comes in Search Engine Optimization after analyzing the market of any business is Keyword Search. It is the most important task which needs utmost attention to get the keywords which really bring the traffic that will generate business and not junk traffic. Sometimes exact keywords will not give you the business even if you are ranking with them but if it will be a phrase that are particularly bringing the visitors highly targeted who want services then it will definitely generate a lead. In the keyword selection procedure you have two options that is to do primary search and secondary search. These two search options will give you more opportunity to get rankings with certain keywords in lesser time so you can start getting traffic through them as well as in a long run you are targeting more exact keywords which will take time to get rankings. Moreover the search count in the keyword search will play important part as you how many visitors will you get after spending time and money in Search Engine Optimization.
Keyword Search can be performed only by experts and it is not the game that everyone can play. You need years of experience, understanding of different businesses, requirements of targeted business and most important what visitors will think about that.
If you think like a user for any site and understand that what keywords user will try to buy any product or service then you will get the keywords which will generate business not just increase traffic.
In present situation companies mostly try to get traffic but they don’t analyze what is working for them and what not. As the main goal of SEO in present situation not just bringing traffic to the site but even now it is more pronounced to generate business. No matter how many visits you are getting per day/weekly or monthly if it is not generating business. On the other hand if you are getting very small visits but they are generating business for you then it is good because your conversion rate is high. So having conversion oriented keywords in very first step of SEO is the important task which is performed by only selective companies in the global market working in Online Marketing. And if you pay for these keywords to get ranking in top 10 will definitely give you benefits and that too in your budget if you are having SEO model that is Pay for Performance SEO means you are paying when you are getting.

This week my main task was to compile a list of twelve keywords or phrases that best link to my chos

This week my main task was to compile a list of twelve keywords or phrases that best link to my chosen e-commerce website therefore I must complete some research into the most popular searches made. Firstly I made search using the Google, search-based keyword tool in order to gather a list of keywords that best suited for my chosen website, however I was landed with a list of what I felt were irrelevant results. Below is a screenshot of the results listed for www.apple.com/itunes.

Having not been able to gain any insight as to what keywords I could use I decided to take a look at some other keyword tools that may help me on my way to assembling my list of twelve keywords for my website. I decided to use the Google Insights search tool whereby I was able to enter up to five different search terms which Google then calculated to determine the popularity of each over a period of time. Initially I searched www.apple.com/itunes in order to determine the popularity of the iTunes website itself. The results showed that it took an entire year before iTunes took off and customers became active users of the facility, however as of January 2005 results fluctuated until a sudden decline in popularity from January 2008 until recent statistics; however this may be due to the introduction of similar competitors in the music industry.

Following this I decided to make a search based on what I thought would be popular searches made by iTunes users. The terms I used were; iTunes, download music, top 10 songs and iPod Touch. The graph below clearly shows that ‘iTunes’ is the most popular search by far as its results are always increasing. Following behind is the ‘iPod touch’ as its popularity rate is continually increasing form September 2007. On the decline however are ‘download music’ and ‘top 10 songs’ which failed to take off in the first place.

As well as showing how each search term is growing in interest all over the world over a period of time, the image below shows just exactly how popular each is over ten regions, as well as including ten of the most popular searches depending on the chosen search term.

The final Google based tool I used was Google Adwords which gathered a list of the most popular keywords and phrases, the local search volume and the advertiser competition based on my e-commerce site. After looking through the results produced I found they were very repetitive but still helped to give me an insight as to what I should include in final list of twelve keywords.

As I was unsuccessful in finding many useful keywords or phrases relating to my chosen site I decided to browse the internet in search of keyword suggestion tools. The first website I came across was www.webconfs.com which enabled me to enter my website URL and a list of keywords were provided, however these were generally all iPod related but at the same time gave me a general idea as to the searches made.

Another website I found was www.webmaster-toolkit.com where I entered ‘iTunes’ into the search bar and producing a list of results showing what products and services iTunes has to offer.

Now that I have completed my research into the top keywords and phrases for my chosen website, I have chosen the following twelve keywords as I feel they best describe my chosen e-commerce website;

Multimedia players

Download music

Buy music online

Download songs

Film downloads

iPods

Top 100 songs

Store

Rentals

Podcasts

Gift Cards

Applications

My friends always ask me if there’s really any good money just doing SEO. I always answer them, it depends, especially if you’re already an SEO expert. Now they want to be an SEO expert.

My advise is, the first thing and the most basic trick in doing SEO is keyword research.

Choosing keywords for your website for optimization is quite simple. You can think of a lot of ways on how you can come up with the keywords for your website but I can only think of 3 things which are very important:

1. the relevance of the keyword to your website
2. the number of people that are looking for the things you are providing
3. and the number of competitors on the product, service, or information you are marketing

Once you have mastered these, including of course the process on how you can come up with the keywords, it will be very easy to optimize your webpage.

Advantages of SEO SEO stands for Search Engine optimization. This technique has many advantages. A r

Advantages of SEO

SEO stands for Search Engine optimization. This technique has many advantages. A recent study in this field shows that internet users rarely click on the sponsored listing. There are other people who are not aware of the fact that these links are paid for. According to study nearly 80% of the links are on the natural listing and rest, which constitutes nearly 20%, is on the paid listings.
The main advantage of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is its cost effectiveness. There is no charge levied by search engine on placing them. This particular thing is very crucial for the high volume low intent as usually these searches are very expensive in paid search.
SEO cost is very much fixed and it’s not dependent on the number of clicks. Paid search is a variable cost whereas after initial optimization cost, the cost with SEO reduces with each and every click.

Hence because of this matter there is no media cost involved although for analyzing the key phrases and to complete the websites pages optimization, resources are must.
Internet users who are interested in a specific information or content regarding any product, place etc of yours will visit only yours site referred by SEO.
SEO along with paid searches offers targeted audiences.

Disadvantages of SEO

Yes, that’s right. Search Engine Optimization does not come along with advantages only there are some disadvantages also. Search Engine indexes have billions of pages and that’s where the major challenge for SEO occur. Your website’s position in Search Engine Results Pages (known as SERPS) is dependent upon the constantly changing algorithms which are hidden and not published anywhere. So to make your web page visible enough you need to have complete knowledge about this subject and also you need to have constant monitoring and ability to respond very fast.

The biggest disadvantage of the Search Engine Optimization is that

you don’t have any control over the results

; you are just on the mercy of the constantly changing algorithm.
Some technique like black hat technique, which is predominantly less ethical, can be used by competitors that will put you in the biggest disadvantage.
As the competition is very intense so it is very hard to place yourself in the top results, if you are using some competitive phrases and this is the situation where you can use the costly pay per click method instead of SEO.

So because of minimum visibility it’s hard to make any sound business case for Search Engine Optimization.
As search engine algorithms are constantly changing therefore it is almost impossible to predict the click volumes and positions from SEO. Equally it’s very hard to predict or monitor the competitor’s actions as well.
Traditional way of advertising can help you to estimate the return on investment in better way whereas it almost impossible to predict in the case of SEO.
But it is possible to estimate the long term return from Search Engine Optimization, so keep in mind that SEO can be used for deriving long term benefits.

Search Engine Optimization is a technique to increase the rank of the website in Search Engine Resul

Search Engine Optimization is a technique to increase the rank of the website in Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). Particular keywords are highlighted in this technique for increasing the traffic of the website. Since 90% of the people using search engine only sees the first page result that why companies want to come in that slot as that would increased the business prospective.
Due to the increased use of internet the competition has become fierce. Companies are using various tactics to gain the competitive advantage and getting the company’s name displayed on the top is one such tactics. For achieving this you need a professional in SEO who can give you the required services to stay ahead of the competition. These days there are many individual who provide SEO services. Selecting a right person is very crucial.
Here are some of the tips which need to be considered while choosing the right SEO professional.
1.	Hire a SEO professional who is familiar with the type of business you are in. An experienced SEO professional can guide you better in this field of search Engine Optimization.
2.	It’s better to see previously done successful SEO campaign which is directly related to your market. This will give you an idea about the campaign.
3.	SEO works takes time to show the result. The time can vary from weeks to months. Accurate estimation of time would help you to avoid any surprises later. Ask your SEO professional to give you the estimated time.
4.	Ask SEO professional about the SEO campaign thoroughly. Ask him to give you the detailed procedure about the work. A good SEO professional would easily tell you the procedure but inexperienced professional would never able to tell you properly.
5.	Don’t pay any heed to the SEO professional claims of giving “x” amount of links for “x” amount of Dollars. Always remember in mind it’s not quantity that matter, its quality which matters the most. If professional is claiming such things then probably he is not worth for you.
6.	Ask professional to keep you informed about everyday working. This will help you to track the campaign properly and you would be able to see where it may go wrong, so that you can take pre-emptive steps.
7.	Reaching at the top of Google result page is just the half battle. Any good experienced SEO professional would help you in gaining attention and would help you to maintain that position. More important is the business that SEO campaign would bring in rather the Rank.
8.	If you don’t want to put yourself in the black list of Google then it’s better not to use Black hat techniques. Ask SEO professional not to use such technique as Google generally ban such website by not indexing it.

So by keeping the above points in mind, you would be able to select a good SEO specialist who can guide you properly in achieving your target.

Google Searches Offer Two Choices

The internet is used for finding just about everything. When you search in Google you typically have two columns of choices to click. On the left hand side is the organic listings and the right side is the sponsored listings. The type of internet marketing a website uses determines where their website is listed.

Organic Listings

The left hand side has a list of websites that fit the criteria of your entered search words. The position of each site is determined by their organic ranking. “Organic listings” is a term used to describe a search that returns results by indexing pages based on content and keyword relevancy. Listings here can be more relevant to your chosen topic and you have a larger variety of choices.

Sponsored Links or Pay per Click

The right side is reserved for the sponsored links or pay per click (PPC) sites. These websites have paid Google to list their website. They have chosen specific keywords that when searched makes their website pop up. This is basically determined by who paid the most money. They are simply paid advertisements. When a keyword search matches an advertiser’s keyword list their ad appears. Each time you click one of the sites the website owner pays Google.

Quality Content

Just creating a site and hosting it on the internet is no more good enough. To make the site success

Just creating a site and hosting it on the internet is no more good enough. To make the site successful, its design certainly does matter but not as much as the content in it. The traffic is certainly governed by the kind and the quality of the content that you have provided in it. It’s been widely observed by the web masters that, the traffic does not increase if only people happen to know the name of your site. Rather it’s more dependent on the search out come of the search engines. Thus if you work in accordance to the convenience of the search engine, then you are more likely to experience better results. Here are some tips about search engine keyword optimization.

The SEO thing is not as complex as some people make it sound like. There are tools like the Google keyword tool, you can easily find the best keywords applicable for your site and then by spreading the keywords across the pages in your site you would certainly put unavoidable bait for the search engines to find your articles and the contents of your site to be the most obvious result for the search posted by the visitor. The Google keyword tool tells you the number of times a certain key word has been used. So by making the articles in the site around those keywords and by making them informative and interesting enough, you would be able to glue the visitors to your site. Thus that certainly would mean better commerce may be expected on your site.

Also please note this is certainly not a one time activity. You need to visit and revisit your site and keep it updated with new stuff, such as relevant articles and some write ups from time to time. Doing this weekly would be a very good idea. Also the design of your site is important for it to be SEO friendly. You should not use too much of pictures rather usage of text would be solicited. That is because the crawlers would not be able to make out any sense from the pictures they only relate the keywords to the search criteria of the visitor.

Other than the following points should also be considered:
o	Find Your Niche Before Advertising Your Website.
o	Always Write For People
o	Email Marketing For Advertising Websites
o	Paid Services For Advertising Websites

Using the above suggested would be a good way to promote your site. Thus I would suggest that you start using the Google keyword tool which is also free, and take the benefit of the free marketing over the internet, for your site, the products and articles that you deal in. Hope that was a helpful tip, so just go ahead and try it out today.

To get a higher rank in the search engines you need to go through the tedious procedure of key word

To get a higher rank in the search engines you need to go through the tedious procedure of key word research. If you are looking for tips or tricks to optimize your sites visibility with SEO, I would say keyword research is the most important and effective of all the available tricks. Best search engine keyword optimization

Now different people might use different techniques to find out the niche or the key words used by the visitors to their site. One such helpful tool is there from Google. It’s free and with the added features it becomes really a cool tool to use.

Some other tips are as follows:

People normally type in some keywords or phrases in the search engine to reach the intended site. Thus this keyword tool makes a note of these keywords, which you might extract from the key word tool. It is very easy to write articles having the keywords. For example, I searched on the tool with the word “Football” and the tool gave us a result stating how many times the keyword was used in the month to find relevant topics on the net. Best search engine keyword optimization

Now when you would be using this tool as explained earlier you might get to see that the keyword has been searched millions of times in the month. That’s exactly where the niche comes in to play. What you need to do now is to turn the key word in to a phrase like “foot ball trucks” or “football winning teams”. This is going to cause the competition and the monthly searches to drop drastically. Now here what I would advise id that you should not be bothered with keywords that have monthly searches of less than or up to 500 monthly searches. And rather depend on the competition for up to 100,000 searches. Best search engine keyword optimization

Human instinct would be pushing you more towards the keywords but that’s not the correct approach to follow. With less competition it’s always easier to reach the number one position in the search engine. Though I can go on this topic for the rest of the day but I seriously hope that I have enlighten you enough that I could pass through this write up. And I am sure by now you must have realized that the keyword search has all the potential to make it or break it for you. I would advise you to think out of the box and don’t spend money unnecessarily just to find out that you are against a huge competition. Best search engine keyword optimization

Hope going forward you would be deploying the technique that I have discussed so far and get yourself a good rating on the search engine.

What is SEO? By using SEO technique you can make your webpage friendlier to search engine. The websi

What is SEO?
By using SEO technique you can make your webpage friendlier to search engine. The website would be optimized and will be visible in the Search Engine Result Pages (SEPRs).
Importance of SEO
Research suggest that
o	60% of individual searching on search engine view only first page of result.
o	Top five listings drive 90% of the traffic.
o	Having site on the first page of result can increase click rates by 3 times.
Difference between Paid search and SEO
Main Differences are
o	SEO takes time to show results whereas paid search can be launched quickly.
o	SEO focus on few important keywords. Paid search focus on the large amount of keywords.
o	Tracking the results in paid search is possible whereas it’s not possible in the case of SEO.
#1 Ranking- is it guaranteed?
No one can guarantee the number one ranking in SERPs as there are too many factors that govern this possibility which are outside your control. Google recommend to remain beware of SEOs that guarantee such results.
#1 Rank- for how long
Well algorithm of search engine changes constantly so that makes search engine ranking to fluctuate. If some specialist in SEO is maintaining your website then possibility is there that your website can remain in top.
How much time it will take to see results?
It varies from search engine to search engine. If your website is new then don’t expect any significant results from Google search unless website has been on the Google’s index for at least six months. MSN and Yahoo take three months time to show significant results. If your website is year old then you can see SEO results in a week.
SEO Copywriting and importance
SEO copywriting means writing your web contents using keywords many times, which sometimes makes writing very difficult to understand. The general idea is to increase the ranking of website by heavy usage of the keywords.
But that does not mean that it’s not important, all you need to do is to use the words in a natural way and optimize the others on page factors and links.
Selection of keywords
Generally keywords are selected by using data from properly managed paid campaign. The keywords that can generate leads or sales should be focused.
Link rental or purchase
The dirty secret of the SEO world is that many top ranker have achieved the place by using the paid links. There are links that can be bought on one time basis or monthly basis. The biggest advantage associated with it is that you can configure the link the way you want to configure to derive the fullest benefits.
How results are track?
Some of the firms employ fuzzy metrics. The visibility is the idea behind this sort of technique. For example if particular keyword move from rank 100 to 20 then according to these firms its 500% visibility. They are least bothered about the traffic these ranking would bring in. So, it is better to employ some specialist agency that can increase the traffic to your website rather than Ranking.

Summary Unless you have a specific product to sell, us small frys make our money through affiliate m

Summary

Unless you have a specific product to sell, us small frys make our money through affiliate marketing (e.g. selling/allowing ads on our website).

Advertisers like to target their ads so our goal is to choose a profitable niche market where we can be successful.

Here are the steps to choose wisely:

Create a list of things you’re passionate about. Could be hobbies, political topics, your kid’s education. As long as you can maintain your interest to research and write about the topic, it matters less whether you’re an expert.

Add keywords from sub-areas of your passion (e.g. from fishing to deep sea fishing).

Determine popularity and profitability by using keyword searches (some listed below) determine how frequently your topic is searched and the CPC (Cost per click) advertisers are willing to pay.

Search for competing websites. Don’t be discouraged by a couple of quality competitors. Maybe you can narrow your focus and get a good audience in a sub-area. Maybe there is enough money to go around.

Relax! Have fun! Remember, our goal is not to get rich quick, but make some money, have some fun and have a life.

Background

Previous post – Can you make money from a free website? Yes.

OK, I decided to do a website. As with most business ventures, the majority FAIL. Undaunted, I want to have a leg up on the competition, but not become so obsessed it’s unmanageable or no longer fun. I learned that affiliate marketing is the way to go. Google Adsense is the 800lb. Gorilla, but there are many other ways to make money which I’ll discuss in later posts. Regardless, you need a quality website, in a niche market with a good following of visitors.

Choosing a niche. To make money, the goal is to find a topic that is popular, profitable and not competitive. Good luck with that! After researching several hobbies, I decided that if even I found the perfect topic, I wouldn’t be having enough fun to keep it going – and stay employed. Instead, I’m keeping with my passion and refining based on research.

With my niche mostly determined, I decided to go for it!

Gale/Cengage has generously agreed to offer a free trial of the Burney Collection for readers of this blog at http://access.gale.com/emob. This provides us with an opportunity for an open discussion of the Burney Collection’s merits, both as a scholarly resource and as a pedagogical tool.

In preparation for the two sessions on digital text-bases, it would be interesting to hear more about how users search Burney. Search results can be overwhelming and show the need for the Library of Congress cataloguing and classification system to help categorize and make sense of the wealth of data that emerges from any given search. Thomas Mann, a Reference Librarian at the Library of Congress, has a still useful 2005 discussion on the limits of computerized searching for research at http://www.guild2910.org/searching.htm. Mann’s site might be particularly helpful in discussing computerized searching with students. His example is that the 11,000,000 results for the word “Afghanistan” are unclassified, whereas under the LC system, they are neatly parsed into “Antiquities,” “Bibliography,” “Biography,” “Boundaries,” Civilization,” and so forth. So the argument in favor of LC classification and cataloguing is clear.

On the other hand, it would be foolish to overlook the value of non-classified search results. Matthew’s p0st on machine reading makes clear the value of understanding more about what computers can do. But searching Burney isn’t necessarily clear from the outset. It would be very interesting to hear more about how individuals use search methods within ECCO, EEBO, and particularly Burney. We are grateful to Gale/Cengage for making this collective review possible.

My assumption is that you will get a better search engine ranking from higher traffic, but you will be more interested in the traffic generated from keyword searches.

Is there a way of determining how each of my visitors landed on my website, and can I extract any information from their visit to let me know who they were.

In addition to the Keyword Search, you can also browse by Tags or by the old “folder”-style organization. Oh, and you can also search the archives of Newsletter articles as well (we’ll have more on that later!).

Control the Webcrawlers You can conquer all obstacles by carefully selecting the key words you’re go

Control the Webcrawlers

You can conquer all obstacles by carefully selecting the key words you’re going to use in your title, throughout your content, and insert in the tag section. Your ultimate goal is to boost your name and site higher in the search engine ranking.

How do I optimize my search engine ranking?

Optimize your position in the major search engines:

1.) Register your site.

2.) Supply great content

3.) Select great long tailed key words

Selecting great long tailed key words begins with your title. A catchy title will attract the readers, but may remain invisible to the webcrawlers.

To make both happy, I mix my titles. One day, I’ll think outside the box and supply catchy titles, and then for the next post, I’ll use more descriptive/technical words. Today’s post is created for the former. “Long Tailed Key Words” may sound interesting for those whom are searching for information on key words, but for those whom are reading for entertainment, they may just scan the title and pass it by. Today’s plan is to attract the webcrawlers and boost this post high into the search engines.

Even though my site is registered and I have created great content for both, my objectives are clearly defined in the title itself. A past post (one of my favorite) is called “Turning Nightmares Into Pleasant Dreams”. A catchy title for the reader, but would probably get missed by the webcrawlers. Whereas, “Links: Functioning Blog/Websites” will snag the webcrawlers attention (boosting this article higher in the search engines).

In the www (world wide web), the material is massive. Out there, we’re competing against literally hundreds of thousands of others, all with similar topics. Our ultimate goal is to be noticed by a potential customer. When the potential customer types what they’re interested in purchasing into the google search, we need our name and title of our book to be on the first page of their screen.

How do we get our name/title on the screen of this potential customer?

Our goal is to stand out from the rest and encourage the webcrawlers to scoot our name and book title as high as possible in the search engines.

Carefully, select the right long tailed key words in your title and then repeat these long tailed key words several times in your post or site page. This will give you a boost higher in the search engines, and as a result…drive massive traffic to your site.

Google Keyword Tool

1.) Copy/paste your link of the page.

2.) Google keyword tool scans this page and suggests key words.

3.) Carefully check out the charts. A key word such as ‘marketing’ will receive massive clicks, but it’ll be impossible to compete against all the other bloggers who’ve also used ‘marketing’ as their key word.

4.) Now if you add a string of words or a ‘long tailed key words’, along with marketing, you will see the clicks are still massive, but suddenly (if you select strong key tailed words such as ‘internet marketing tool‘) you’re now the competitor in the race and your rounding the track, passing your competitors.

Using the Google Keyword Tool will help you conquer all obstacles and ‘win the race’. Supplying the selected key words in your title and throughout your post/page will attract the webcrawlers attention….boosting your name/title higher in the search engine ranking.

It’s time to get noticed and bring attention to yourself.

I spotted an article from the 17 July 2009 on the Times website on places where you might not expect

I spotted an article from the 17 July 2009 on the Times website on places where you might not expect obsolete technology to have held on.

For example, says the article, the NYPD spent $432,900 on typewriter maintenance last year (and nearly $1 million the year before). They use typewriters to fill out forms – for seized property mainly – and for backup in case a catastrophe takes the digital side of the force off-line.

I completely agree with this idea, it’s a very good one. I’ve got into the habit of often filling out forms on my typewriter because it’s capable of black capitals and it’s neater than I could previously manage. I also typewrite the addresses on my postal envelopes.

Other technologies in the list include tapes (audio cassettes) which are used in prisons in the US because CDs are often banned because they make such effective weapons if shattered. The story reports that cassette sales to inmates is one of the few growth areas in a physical media music industry that is in decline.

Another example is the telegram – something I admire as an event more than as a means of communication, just imagine if the Queen sent you a text on your 100th birthday? This one is very interesting from a legal perspective because in the USA if you send a telegram with some juicy piece of intellectual property to anyone, even yourself, you can use the date and time on the telegram as evidence in a copyright trial. This is a good stop gap measure while you are waiting for any formal copyright processes to be completed. It is also a useful means of extremely quick recorded message delivery, useful for contractual purposes.

One final point for me microfiche. I think microfiche is one of those products that are fun until you have to use it. I quite like, now and again, reading the newspapers from historical events and these are now generally only available on microfiche simply because of the size savings. That sort of interesting and different way to spend an afternoon in the library would very quickly lose its charm if I needed the information, and particularly if I needed it quickly. Keyword search may not be perfect but you’d miss it if it was gone.

I think that technology is only obsolete when it is no longer useful to you. Typewriters, audio cassettes and microfiche are all perfectly effective at what they do, they were replaced because the alternatives had benefits but that doesn’t mean they stopped working at the same time.

http://timesonline.typepad.com/comment/2009/07/10-places-where-old-technology-lives-on.html

The recent announcement of Digital Reef and Microsoft FAST is an important one. At first glance it might be a bit confusing since both companies provide search capabilities. Digital Reef does provide a search engine and additionally they offer capabilities that make their search smarter than other solutions and they also have features that live above the search stack.

As a result Digital Reef can be a totally turn-key solution and also work with other third party search and indexing engines in order to protect the investment that customers have already made. If an organization has already indexed tons and tons of content – then why go through the process again? In addition to their own indexing capability, Digital Reef also will leverage existing popular indexes – in this case the FAST index – and bring the Digital Reef federation, performance, scalability, archiving and similarity engine to Microsoft FAST and SharePoint customers.

Digital Reef is a search and indexing solution but it is much more – if it wasn’t then why bother building a new company? Digital Reef is Enterprise-class search and an information application with the goal of providing relevant data to its users – rapidly and efficiently.

Bad Keyword! Bad!

How to recognize what wasteful pay per click spending really is. We hear so much about getting rid of those keywords that are not performing, but are we sure we should get rid of them? There may be other causes to a lower converting keyword than it is just a “bad” keyword. First of all does the keyword relate to your business, your market, & vertical? Is it associated to an ad group that has good ads to support it? Next does the keyword have decent enough query volume to bring in any clicks at all, & if so are your competitors over bidding the keyword.

If all of those things are in check, and you believe this keyword is still bad for you, then what about the landing page that visitor’s first land on from the click. Does your landing page relate well to the keyword & the ad? Does the landing page have a clear direction to the visitor so they can follow a path or take an action? Sometimes you can have a great keyword that you’re not nurturing well enough. However, if you know for 100% certainty through analytics and testing that you have done all of the above very well, then most likely you have a keyword that should go in “time out”.

Developing creative, original, relevant and keyword-rich information for your website is a very effe

Developing creative, original, relevant and keyword-rich information for your website is a very effective way to make your site more user-friendly and to also increase the opportunities for search engine spiders to visit and crawl your site. Great content thus leads to better search engine rankings for your site. Targeted content is even better, and can often be found in information tables and/or listings. Make sure yur tables and/or lists contain valuable user information.

By now most people in the SEO world are fully aware that great site content is a big part of the game. Content is king, or so we have heard many times. Developing creative, original, relevant and keyword-rich information for your website is a very user-friendly exercise and consequently will attract many visitors to your site. Targeted content can create an even more positive impact by allowing you to access and reach out to your main market audience. User-friendly content is often spider-friendly, as well, since search engine spiders are naturally attracted to good writing, particularly if it is keyword-rich and original.

Great writing is not the only way to develop great site content, and should actually be just one of several different ways to do it. Creating relevant tables and lists for your site can also considered as great content, and will drive both users and spiders to it. This is particularly true if your tables and lists are keyword-rich, contain valuable information and are easy to digest or look at.

Information tables on your site which offer up details about ideas, products or services relevant to your company and/or industry are invariably good site content additions. Site viewers who find the information useful may refer others to your site on the basis of the tables themselves. Usually information tables contain important industry keywords, terms and/or phrases, so that makes them engine-friendly as well.

Information lists can also attract users and spiders, particularly if they are rich in keywords and industry terms or phrases. Lists containing the names, positions and companies of industry contacts, for example, can be very strong site content sources. Users searching for information on a particular person or business in your industry, for example, may stumble across your site if that person’s name and/or the business in question are included on one of your information lists. Initially that particular user may not have been trying to access your site, but there is a strong possibility that, once there, your new visitor may stay awhile and look around. After all, he or she is likely from your industry community, and as such there is a good chance that your site will be of interest, at the very least. It is a safe bet to say that such a user should be viewed as highly qualified traffic.

The bottom line is this: keep on developing great writing content for you site, but do not ignore the idea of adding informative tables, lists and other such features to your site. Also, make sure that these tables and lists are revised and updated, and that other informative tables and lists are added on an ongoing basis. That way you be assured that new, original, and very keyword-rich content is being continually added in areas other than straight descriptive writing. And when you go to bed at night you will sleep tight, confident in the knowledge that both users and spiders are continuing to visit and crawl your site, because the information there is varied, useful and industry-specific.
