"Why are you so mean, KG?"

I usually love watching the Celtics play, but that mood changes considerably when they’re facing the Raptors. Fresh off a 116-81 pounding at the hands of the Bobcats, Toronto will look to bounce back tonight against Jose Calderon’s best friend (Mr. KG, in case you forget) in Boston. As always, check in at Raptors Republic for the best preview in the business.

As easily as the Celtics have handled us in Toronto the past couple years, the Raps have actually put up some decent battles on the parquet floor in Boston. Calderon took over a game in January ‘08 (the Celts’ championship year) before his famous encounter with Garnett early last season, and Andrea Bargnani forced overtime with a late three in an eventual 115-109 loss in the second meeting. The Celtics come into this one looking a little susceptible too, following a tight win over a Sixers team they usually pound and a near-disastrous loss to the Knicks over the weekend. Still, at 11-4 and with the Fantastic Four still in tact, they’re as good a bet as any to win the East this season.

Toronto comes in desperately in need of a bounce-back following Wednesday’s embarrassment in Charlotte. I called out Chris Bosh yesterday and stand by it — now’s the time to step up, big man. This is as tough a game as you’ll play all year, so let’s go make a statement.

Cine a fost la Paris, stie ca daca exista un paradox, este acela al coexistentei pasnice intre siluetele de viespe ale frantuzoaicelor si boulangeriile si patiseriile care iti fac cu ochiul la orice colt de strada.

Asa ca nu mica mi-a fost mirarea cand, haihuind pe Internet, am nimerit peste un blog al unei frantuzoaice cu mult peste nivelul 1 de obezitate (asta chiar este contrariant!), care spune raspicat ca stilul nu este o chestiune de marime, ci de atitudine (si aici, va jur, sunt de acord cu ea). Iar apoi, din click in click, am nimerit peste brandul Castaluna, care are modele foarte cool si un slogan care mi-a placut rau: “Moda se opreste azi la marimea 42. Cu atat mai rau pentru ea”.

Sunt totalmente contra ingrasatului, dar daca exista, militez pentru asumarea kilogramelor in plus si a placerii de a manca… cu stil . Big Baby has big dreams

Big Baby Davis is gonna become an NBA All-Star and leave on a high note — Costanza-style — to play in the NFL. That’s what he’s telling us, at least. The 6-foot-9, 500 pound Boston big man made known his plans to branch out today, according to an article on ESPN.com. Of course, he’ll have to wait a couple months or so for that broken thumb he picked up in a fight a few weeks ago to heal before he can get started on his plan to take over the sporting world.

I like Big Baby — after all, I declared my love for the Celtics in a post yesterday so I can’t really go back on it. Plus, I found this whole “incident” to be very amusing in last year’s playoffs. With his size and considering he played football in high school, he probably could make the NFL — but an NBA All-Star? I don’t see it happening. If that’s what it’s gonna take for you to hang up the sneakers and move to the gridiron, you might have to play basketball for another 142 years, big boy.

Nevertheless, I wish Davis the best in his attempt to become an NBA star and his more-reasonable goal of making it as a pro football player. Before you get too far ahead of yourself, Big Baby, remember: There’s no crying in football.

THE NBA SEASON HAS STARTED and I’m so excited that i can barely control myself.  Watching highlights every night, the fast paced action, the dunks, Kobe, Lebron, D-Wade.. damn I LOVE THIS GAME!!   My thoughts this week may be a little off, but hey, it’s the first NBA thoughts of the season and  we’re only 5 games into the seaosn… So enjoy DDISBORED’s 10 Thoughts on the NBA.. thus far…

1. The OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER aka THE BABY BOLTS lead by Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, & Russell Westbrook will make the Playoffs this year after only winning 23 games last year!!  And Durant may win MVP… stay tuned..
2. Lebron James still lacks the Killer Instinct that he needs to be great!  LeBron is 6 years in the league and against the Celtics instead of beasting through the lane down by 4 with 3 minutes left… he gives up the ball twice, Cavs Lose!  He needs to take some lessons from Kobe on how to put that dagger in and start twisting it!
3. Rudy Gay is soooooo smart for not signing a contract extension with the Memphis Grizzlies (even though it was for 50 million).  Heck, I don’t even know if I would sign with Memphis.  Gay, is a diamond in the deep rough of the NBA, just looking for a team (cough, Cleveland) to find him!!
4. The Celtics, Rajon Rondo is one of the best Point Guards in the NBA and starting a battle with the BEST point in the NBA, Chris Paul, is good for the league! Though, Rondo, may want to shut his mouth and focus on winning another championship now because KG, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, & Rasheed Wallace could all retire after this season.
5. Rookie, Brandon Jennings is a genius for not going to college last year!  I know that is an oxymoron if I’m talking about the local bartender, but the Milwaukee Bucks point guard is averaging 22 points, 2 steals, and 6 assists per game, after spending last year playing in Europe.
6. KOBE BRYANT IS STILL THE LEAGUES BEST PLAYER AND HAS BEEN SINCE 2003! ..stop kidding yourself..
7. I wish that the NBA showed more teams on TV, but I know they won’t because of ratings and such.  The only teams shown every week are: The Lakers, Cavs, Spurs, & Heat… I would love to see the Warriors, Hornets, Thunder, & Blazers every once and awhile…
8. I said this in July, but I feel like I need to say this again… THE TORONTO RAPTORS ARE GOING TO BE THE SURPRISE TEAM IN THE NBA THIS YEAR!! So, if you want to win some money… put it on the Raptors!  Chris, Hedu, Andrea, Jose, & DeMar are ready to shock some people!!
9. All NBA pregame, halftime, & postgame coverage should be handled by Charles, Kenny, and EJ from TNT! The ESPN & ABC crews just don’t compare!
10. 5 GAMES DOWN… 77 GAMES TO GO… til the PLAYOFFS!!  YESSIR!!

Forget 72-10, I’ve got the Boston Celtics going 82-0 this year. Yeah, MJ and Pip, step aside. The Rondoooo Show made it five straight to start the season last night with a 105-74 road win in Philly, giving them three wins of at least 28 points in the season’s first week, not to mention a pretty, pretty nice road victory in Cleveland on opening night.

There were some question marks surrounding Kevin Garnett’s health coming off last year’s knee sprain, but the games thus far have made it pretty clear The Big Ticket can coast — through five, he’s averaging 11.2 points and 6.8 boards per game. Expect plenty more blowouts and Doc Rivers to keep putting KG to bed as early as possible. And why not? Rasheed Wallace has adjusted to his sixth man role admirable, making 15 threes through five games and averaging 12 points in 21 minutes.

Of course, I can’t do a Celtics post without showing some love for my man Rajon Rondo. Last night’s win was the first in which he didn’t grab at least 10 assists — instead he went 5-of-7 and picked up four steals in 28 minutes. Oh yeah, and his efforts the past couple years scored him a five-year, $55 million contract extension just last week. (Attn: Jose Calderon — Please follow Rondo’s lead and be a good point guard.)

Anyway, with Cleveland’s slow start (though they’re rolling now) and the Lakers nearly getting Thunderstruck in OKC last night, I figured to give the league’s best team their due this morning.

Ahhh…. primul post ….ma simt bine ….ma intreb oare in acest timp ce face municipalitatea , cum se investesc banii pe care ii platim luna de luna …..in ce …ca nu vad nimic . Am fost duminica la gara sa duc pe cineva ….si deobicei parchez de blvd Dinicu Golescu cand ce sa vezi ….o doamna cam de 100 kg si 1.60 a venit la mine sa imi ceara banii de parcare ….5 lei / ora . Bineinteles ca nu am acceptat sa platesc aceasta suma , drept pentru care mi-a spus ca mi se va ridica masina . Dragi prieteni pe sosea nu sunt deloc marcaje care sa ma instiinteze ca acolo este o parcare doar un amart de panou pus pe un stalp la departare unde scrie P cu o sageata in sus si una in jos.Domnul Oprescu ne-a spus acum cateva saptamani ca vor exista 3 culori pentru marcaje ce vor indica : parcare cu plata , parcare de resedinta si parcare pentru interventii.

Traim in Romania si….. cu asta am spus tot.

KG's passion and sportsmanship coverted me into Celtics fan from just a follower.

By no way am I a huge basketball fan.

I followed the Celtics as a teenager when the original “Big Three” of Bird, McHale, and Parish roamed the Parquet floor of the old Garden.

I remember watching the Celtics-Lakers on Sunday afternoons.

I remember where I was when Bird clanked his three pointer against the Lakers in the ’87 Finals.

I was in Hershey Pennsylvania on an eighth grade field trip and I still remember the whole hotel in unison groan when the Celtics lost.

I remember Bird hitting his face and returning against the Pacers in the playoffs.

They were “the team” in Beantown. The Sox, Pats, and Bruins had some glorious moments, but never brought home a championship.

How times have changed in this Millennium!

The Sox finally won not once but twice. The Patriots were a Dynasty. The Bruins, well the Bruins were the Bruins.

The Celtics were coming off their worst seasons in team history in 2006-7. They suffered through an 18 game losing streak. They looked like a shell of a team.

Something had to be done to bring the Celtics back to greatness.

Lottery?

Nope (The fifth pick is like drafting Laurence Maroney when you could have had Barry Sanders!).

Big time trades?

Oh yes!

Ray Allen came from the Supersonics on draft day.

One piece in place.

Who would be next?

KG came to Boston in a blockbuster trade on July 31^st.

Boston had a new “Big Three”.

I knew KG was a great player out of Minnesota and was a high school star that jumped to the NBA as an 18 year old.

That’s about all I knew.

When KG came to Boston, he was like a little kid in a 30 something body.

He was a player that never really got close to a championship as a Timber wolf.

He was hungry.

As a follower and not a die hard fan of the Celtics, I instantly was attracted to and had great admiration for KG (I am wearing my Garnett shirt as I write this).

He had fire. He was intense. He had respect for the game and for Celtics history.

He loved and still loves to play.

You have to love the chest pounding and head butts against the hoop support.

He gets me pumped up!

He played every night at full throttle.

KG wanted a championship. Be careful what you wish for because sometimes you get what you deserve.

He got just that in 2007-8 and was the defensive player of the year.

He was and still is a beast.

However, in 2008-9, KG got hurt towards the end of the season. He missed the playoffs and the Celtics were ushered out in the second round against Orlando.

Without their inspirational and defensive leader, the Celtics weren’t the same team.

I watched the playoffs, but it wasn’t as much fun without Kevin Garnett(don’t get my wrong Ray Allen was sick against the Bulls).

“The Big Ticket” as he is called is just that. Even the casual basketball fan like myself, has to love this player’s dedication and pure will to win.

In a time of selfish and juvenile athletes(Brandon Marshall…Yep Big Baby you too.), KG is what a sportsman should be.

Shut your mouth and do your job.  Have respect for the game and understand that playing a professional sport is a privilege not a right (just ask Pac Man Jones).

I am looking forward to watching KG and the newly stocked Celtics dethrone the Lakers.

Kevin Garnett has made me a more of a Celtics fan than I have been since Larry Bird retired.

We all know that role models and heroes should be saved for members of the military, parents, and for others who have am undying passion and respect for something they do or believe in.

One notch below these true heroes, is players like Tedy Bruschi and Kevin Garnett.

These men, yes they are human beings like you and me, give their all for their sport and put their own accolades on the back burner for the achievement of a common goal (championship).

KG is the embodiment of perserverence, dedication, and professionalism.

And I am ecstatic; he has come to Boston to share his greatness(as a man and basketball player) with us.

Throw it down, big man

Step aside, LeBron — there’s a new king in town. Andrea Bargnani led Toronto with 28 points and the Raptors weathered a second-half Cavs run to take the season opener 101-91.

I’ve watched thousands of basketball games in my life but still haven’t comprehended that it’s a game of runs. Not that I counted Cleveland out after the Raps built a 20-point first half lead, but I was about ready to write the season off after a third quarter three-point barrage pulled the Cavs even. I started getting flashbacks to that hellish night in Boston last November when the Celtics overcame a big deficit and ended up pounding us, aka the Kevin Garnett “Bring It On” game. Toronto bounced back tonight though, re-extending the lead to 13 in the fourth to put it away.

Chris Bosh had 21 points and 16 boards but struggled from the field, shooting 6-of-17. Still, he stayed aggressive in the second half, getting to the line 12 times in total. Bosh, Bargnani and Rasho Nesterovic kept Shaq in check too, limiting him to 12 points and seven rebounds. The Big Diesel, actually, was brutal — his six missed shots were from a combined two feet and he spent much of the fourth quarter on the bench. In total, Shaq was a Kevin Durant-esque -25.

Other notables for the Raptors: Jose Calderon scored just five points but had 11 assists, Marco Belinelli had 10 in 19 minutes off the bench and Hedo Turkoglu had 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in his debut. DeMar DeRozan looked comfortable in his first NBA game, scoring eight points in 24 minutes.

Anyway, a fine start to the season. I’ll check back in tomorrow with some more analysis on the win.

LeBron and KG get things started tonight

And we’re back! After some time off (an especially long time for Raptors fans), the NBA tips the 2009-10 season tonight with a four-game slate highlighted by the Cavs and Celtics from Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. Washington-Dallas, Houston-Portland and the Clippers-Lakers round out the bill.
