It’s the weekend! And this weekend is going to last 7 days! FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABulous! Eid is on Sunday and so we have a wonderfully long holiday.

Aah…

So anyway, I thought I’d blog about the workout routine and diet I followed to lose weight. Here goes:

• Walking.

That’s all I did. For 3 – 4 – 5 hours every single day.

Yes, it really works. You can lose like 0.5 – 1 kg every week. Here’s the math:

• 1 hour of walking burns approximately 350 calories
• 1 pound = 3500 calories

So in order to lose 1 pound a week, you would have to burn 3500 calories. 7000 calories if you want to lose 2 pounds, which is 1 kilogram. To burn 3500 calories, you would have to burn at least 500 calories everyday + the calories you consumed during the day.

The important thing is that you keep a calorie count, or a “food journal” if you will. A quick Google search will tell you how many calories a particular food item carries. Accordingly, you can decide whether you need to walk less or more to burn 500 calories a day.

I noticed that usually, in the beginning of these diets and workouts, the effect is much greater. My theory is that in time, your body gets accustomed to it and so adjusts accordingly. So I would recommend starting strong, not easy and then topping it up a notch week after week. If you could eat 500 calories lesser every day, that would work too, for the beginning weeks. Then I guess when you reach the limit and can’t cut out any calories anymore, your weight will just remain at that, provided you don’t add heavy foodstuff to your new diet. A magazine I was reading today mentioned that cutting 250 calories out of your diet, and exercise to burn off another 250 everyday would work.

So if you consume about 700 calories in a day, you would have to burn 700 + 500 = 1200 calories. So walk for around 3.5 – 4 hours.

Also, switch to low-fat and diet substitutes. Really worth it.

It’s pretty easy. All you have to do is keep walking no matter where you are. Walk when you’re on the phone, when you’re watching TV, with a friend, while you read a book, while brushing even… The list is endless. Keep a count so you can track your progress.

I’ve tried this out two times so far, 4 years apart, and I would say that it is highly effective. It’s also a stretch-mark-free way of losing weight as it’s steady and you lose weight gradually from all over your body. After most of the body fat is gone, aerobic exercises and toning exercises could be done to convert the little remaining fat into muscle. It’s what I’m doing and it really works. Blessed was the day I stumbled upon the magic of walking to lose weight. I don’t know the name of the person, but thanks, you discoverer, you.

What happens when market rallies go on and on?  Outside of the basics, you just about always get a flurry of corporations and public entities selling shares as secondary offerings flood the market.  Between yesterday and today we have seen a deluge of secondary offerings either priced or filed from the likes of B&G Foods, Inc. (NYSE: BGS) China Marine Food Group Limited (AMEX: CMFO), Converted Organics Inc. (NASDAQ: COIN), Grand Canyon Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: LOPE), Legacy Reserves LP (NASDAQ: LGCY), OpenTable, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPEN), ParkerVision, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRKR), Quicksilver Gas Services LP (NYSE: KGS), and UDR, Inc. (NYSE: UDR).

As long as you keep seeing the DJIA, S&P, and NASDAQ hitting new intermediate highs and the market does not roll over, you can expect the floodgates for companies raising capital to continue.   Full details on each offering or filing are below.

B&G Foods, Inc. (NYSE: BGS) priced its public offering of 10,000,000 shares of common stock at $8.00 per share in a sale through Credit Suisse, Barclays Capital, and BofA Merrill Lynch.  The $80 million in gross proceeds comes to $75.6 million after all fees are deducted, or $86.9 million if the overallotment option is exercised in full.  After a 4% drop to $8.12 today, we have the market cap listed as $291 million.

China Marine Food Group Limited (AMEX: CMFO) has filed to sell up to $40,000,000.00 of any combination of  Common Stock, Preferred Stock, Depository Shares, Warrants, Rights and Units.  The company noted that it will retain a broad discretion over the use of the net proceeds under the “for general corporate purposes.”  Without the consideration of new shares, we show the market cap of this one as $116.5 million.  At $5.06, it is also at the upper end of its $1.10 to $5.83 range over the last year.

Converted Organics Inc. (NASDAQ: COIN) is selling units with stock and warrants, with public warrants under the “COINZ” ticker.  The sale of up to $44,476,350.00 in stock and warrants  is taking place through Chardan Capital Markets, LLC.

Grand Canyon Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: LOPE) priced 6,000,000 shares at $16.50 through Credit Suisse and BofA Merrill Lynch.  Of the sale, only 1,000,000 shares were sold by the company as 5,000,000 shares were unloaded by backer Endeavour Capital.  As the discount was effectively none, shares are up almost 4% at $17.15.

Legacy Reserves LP (NASDAQ: LGCY) sold 3.3 million units at $15.85 per unit through Raymond James and RBC Capital Markets.  The oil and gas partnership plans to use the funds to reduce outstanding borrowings under its revolving credit facility.  The near-$50 million compares to market cap of $509 million after a 2.8% drop to $16.40 today.

OpenTable, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPEN) filed to sell 3,790,033 Shares through BofA Merrill Lynch and others.  If the overallotment is exercised, this would come to 4,358,537 shares or a value of $116,076,558 based upon the filing figures.  Be advised, none of the funds from this go back to the company as every one of these shares are being sold by insiders and venture backers.  IAC/InterActive Corp. (NASDAQ: IACI) is selling some 750,000 as one of the backers here.

ParkerVision, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRKR) has filed to sell up to $50 million in securities in any combination of Common stock, Preferred stock, Warrants and Debt.  This company has a market cap of $127 million before the effects of any such changes, if any, from this filing.

QUICKSILVER GAS SERVICES LP (NYSE: KGS) has filed to sell any combination of Common Units, Debt Securities, Warrants, Purchase Contracts, and Units for an amount of up to $150 million.

UDR, Inc. (NYSE: UDR) has entered into an at-the-money sales agreement with Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley as sales agents and/or principals to sell up to 15,000,000 shares of common stock at prevailing market prices at the time of sale.

This is also just a snapshot of the immediate deals that were filed in the last 48 hours or which priced.  There are many other deals in the hopper for this week and next.

Hoy he alcanzado por primera vez el nivel de 5 kyu en KGS. La verdad es que he tenido mucha suerte en mis últimas partidas y, muy probablemente, estoy “overrated” (es decir que mi categoría real es bastante inferior). Poco importa en realidad, porque los rangos no son más que una ilusión con la que nuestro ego sube y baja como en una montaña rusa…

 Así que, conservando la capacidad de reírme de mi mismo, disfrutaré mientras pueda de la categoría recién adquirida. Mientras tanto sigo con la duda de cual será mi nivel en juego presencial. Espero poder descubrirlo pronto.

Hoy jugué una partida contra alguien con el que hacía tiempo que deseaba jugar “Ricky1″ el “dueño” de The Enclave, la sala más grande social. No es muy fuerte, más o menos igual que yo. Pero no ha hecho cosas estúpidas, sabía donde meterse y donde no y hemos comenzado una pelea que casi que decidía la partida. Gané la pelea, pero la he disfrutado, un buen jugador, una pena que abandonase. Quería seguir jugando más contra él, a ver si se me pega algo de juego elegante.

Hoy he jugado 4 rankeds seguidas, y las he perdido las 4. Primero he jugado contra un 6k, y la verdad que no es que él me haya ganado, sino que yo he perdido.

Yo soy negras, en primer lugar el tío montó una escalera, le fue echando piedras y luego la intento salvar. Total veo el movimiento con el que la intento salvar ( 160 G17) leo la escalera de nuevo, no pasa nada ningún tipo de fallo. Ea, a subir otra vez a la escalera hasta que llegamos al momento de la imagen.

Yo tengo que jugar G16 y todo será correcto de nuevo, pero por alguna razón mi dedo se desplaza a H17 y coloco ahí. Me quedo petrificado, lo he visto en mi cabeza, lo he leído… Y he colocado mal la piedra!? En fin, tengo que abandonar.

No pasa nada jugaré otra, errores a tutiplén de lectura otra vez, otra y otra. Perdidas las cuatro, las tengo que revisar para ver que fallos he tenido en ellas, son todos de lectura porque si soy sincero estaba un poco ofuscado. Entonces dejé de jugar y me fui a comer y echar una siesta.

Cuando me he despertado he jugado otra y la he ganado, menos mal. No hay que confiarse y tengo que leer las cosas con más cuidado, y colocar la piedrecita con más cuidado. Simplemente un poco más de atención…

There are only 27 of us so far, but players can sign up any time during the month and can participate without being BGA members, so perhaps the numbers will increase a bit.

Just last night [10th of june, 2009], Xinwen discovered this particular go-relevant website, the “Emptytriangle” by Chid0ri of KGS. It is very sensational and inspiring, as Xinwen had also decided to start to do manga of Go-related during his summer break.

One of Xinwen’s dream was to become a mangaka ever since he’s a small boy.

The Enclave es la sala social más grande de KGS. Además de tener una página web y un e-zine montan eventos cada dos por tres, él último que han hecho ha sido una partida de un 9 dan amateur ( Bigbadwolf) contra un 6p ( Younggil ). Primero jugaron la partida, una hora cada uno hasta el final, y luego comentaron la partida entera. Cuelgo aquí tanto la partida, como la revisión.

La única partida es que la gente se dedicó a manchar la partida diciendo tonterías, que si uno era amigo, que si otro se había tirado a Younggil en lo alto de un goban, ya sabéis las pamplinas del KGS. Así que la revisión está completamente manchada, lo suyo sería ( si es que alguien sabe hacerlo que me diga como ) que al meterlo en un editor .sgf se pudieran eliminar los comentarios que no fueran de Younggil o Bigbadwolf, porque básicamente la comentan entre ellos dos.
