Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson will face interim champion Gilbert Melendez in a five-round rematch at Strikeforce “Evolution” on Dec. 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

The bout, which will unify the promotion’s two lightweight titles, had been twice scheduled and cancelled due to injuries sustained by Thomson in 2009.

Thomson’s shutout decision over Melendez in June 2008 is considered one of the high points of the San Jose fighter’s career.

As a 3-to-1 underdog, the American Kickboxing Academy product established confidence with the Pride Bushido star early, and actively used lateral movement to keep Melendez at bay throughout the 25 minutes. The loss marked only the second in the highly touted Melendez’s career, and solidified what many suspected of the Thomson’s potential in the lightweight division.

In his last performance in September 2008, Thomson, 31, made quick work out of an overmatched Ashe Bowman in a non-title bout, cutting down the Lion’s Den prospect in only 74 seconds at Strikeforce’s second event at the Playboy Mansion.

Melendez earned the interim title with a second-round technical knockout of Rodrigo Damm in April 2009. The voracious 27-year-old wrestler defended the title in August when he demolished Mitsuhiro Ishida with strikes inside three rounds. Melendez also holds key victories over standouts Clay Guida and Tatsuya Kawajiri.

Thomson-Melendez II joins a previously announced roster that includes a main-event middleweight bout between Cung Le and Scott Smith, as well as the promotional debut of Muhammed Lawal against Mike Whitehead at heavyweight.

Strikeforce “Evolution” will be broadcast live on Showtime.

On le sait, les rappeurs frinçais ont des goûts en matière de cinéma. Par exemple ils vouent un culte à scarface en VF… En VF !
Bon Scarface ça reste un bon film à la base. donc l’idée leur est venue de faire pire. Toujours pire.

Ne pouvant cacher leur attrait pour jean Claude Van Damme et les petites asiats, la vraie référence improbable cinématographique du rap frinçais c’est…

Et ce grâce à une phrase toute bête qui marquera leurs esprits d’enfants à jamais.
Mais pour ça il faut résumer le film très vite.
JCVD incarne Kurt !
…Kurt… c’est déjà la loose et ça va être comme ça un peu tout le film.

Alors en gros, le mec est le frère d’un champion de box thai aux states, il est même pas champion lui même. Son reuf va en Thaïlande pour voir un peu si ils sont vraiment si fort que ça les chongs.
Autant dire que passé les premières scènes, on ne verra plus ce personnage qu’en fauteuil roulant.
Or Van Damme il aime pas trop avoir des handicapés dans sa mif (un peu douteux le message de ce film) alors il veut à son tour dérouiller le champion qui a niqué son frère. Tong Po.

(Tong Po c’est le croisement de Sagat dans Street Fighter et Karl Lagerfeld mais ça c’est déjà plus visible dans les nombreuses suites toutes géniales de cette série où il sera devenu bilingue pour mieux trafiquer de la drogue parce qu’un barbare avec deux mots de vocabulaire, même Thaïlandais, c’était pas assez marrant.)

Donc là Tong Po est encore un grand mongol en slip.
Et JCVD il peut pas le niquer comme ça.
Alors il va voir un vieux dans la montagne.
C’est ça qu’est bien en Asie du Sud Est, y a toujours des coins un peu reculés avec des vieux qui t’apprennent pleins de truc et après tu peux aller niquer le méchant.
des entraînements à base de faire la sieste sous un arbre en attendant que les noix de coco te tombent dessus, des trucs de ouf !

Et là, le ieuv, il a une nièce : Mai Li.
Et évidement y a une romance de fiottes qui naît entre JC et Mai Li
Et là ils sont tout mignon tout les deux parce qu’ils se cherchouillent, ils flirtouillent ensemble.
Bref le truc dégueulasse dont on a typiquement pas besoin dans un film de castagne.

Surtout que Tong Po c’est pas trop son truc l’amour platonique, il préfère plus tonique.
Alors il va voir Mai Li et il la viole vite fait, il a pas le temps pour ces conneries.
(D’ailleurs Mai Li aurait peut-être du lui dire “stop.”)

Et on en arrive à la scène finale fatidique, JCVD se bat contre Tong Po.
Tong Po le met par terre et dira cette phrase fatidique à JC “Tu te couches comme Mai Li.”

La phrase qui sera reprise par les rappeurs frinçais à travers les âges.
Tong Po rajoutera également “Mai Li bonne baise” mais ça les rappeurs l’ont moins reprise et c’est bien dommage.
Les X-Men, Bass Click, Nysay, Dry, Alain de l’Ombre (Green) et tant d’autres, ils feront références à cette phase mongole et quelque part ça prouve à quel point notre rap hexagonal est magnifique.
Seul Ol kainry qui n’a pas tout compris au film fera des punchlines sur Tong Po qui s’entraine sur le pilier.
Le mec il a retenu ça du film…
On sait pas pourquoi, on ne sait pas comment, on ne veut pas savoir.

JCVD comprend donc que sa pute a été dépucelée par un géant et il l’a mauvaise, alors il nique tout le monde.
Parce que bon, le mec lui rend un frère handicapé et une pute déjà utilisée et tout le monde sait à quel point il est dur de trouver une vierge de plus de 11ans en Thaïlande, demandez à Frédéric Mitterrand.
Il en a gros sur la patate contre Tong Po.
Et c’est la victoire du bien contre le jaune.

Pre-screening memories: I was old enough, when seeing Lionheart for the first time, that I can’t call it one of the most important formative movies of my childhood. True, I wasn’t a fan of martial arts films before seeing it, and afterwards I became something of a devotee of Van Damme’s, but the most vital part of the film for my developing fandom was that it reinforced the lesson, first taught by Tim Curry’s performance in the movie Clue, that following an actor from project to project would

A: Never disappoint, because if nothing else, you at least get to see a performance by someone whose work you enjoy, and

B: could possibly lead to discovering something fantastic.

Which is my circuitous way of saying that my passion for the TV show Sledge Hammer! led directly to my lifelong love of watching people kicking other people in the face. Still inconsolable two full years after Sledge Hammer’s cancellation, seeing Harrison Page show up in television ads for upcoming film ‘Lionheart’ made me determined to see the film, which was rated a forbidding R, ensuring that I wouldn’t make it to the theatres.

When I finally saw the film on video it didn’t disappoint. Not only was Harrison Page fantastic in the film, but the action was unlike anything I’d seen in the Arnold Schwarzenegger movies that dominated my childhood, or even the occasional episode of Kung Fu. After all, who needed a machine gun when you could just spin really fast and crack someone across the jaw with your heel? A lifelong fan of the genre was born, as well as a devotee of Van Damme’s ‘all downhill from here’ ouevre.

New memories: I’m frankly amazed by how good this movie was. Not having seen it in years, I’d assumed that it was going to be one of those embarrassingly Natsukashi moments (that’s how you use that word, right?) where I’d created an epic action extravaganza in my mind that never actually existed – this was certainly not the case. The action certainly wasn’t up to modern choreographic standards, but everything else about the film was far better than I’d remembered.

That’s right, what impressed me most about the film was that it worked, first and foremost, as a drama. Sounds crazy, right? Van Damme’s a pretty limited actor, especially at this fresh-faced stage of his career, before that personal and professional setbacks that would reduce him to the withered husk of ‘JCVD’, but damn if it doesn’t work in this part, as a simply good, almost naïve man struggling his way through the seamy world of underground fighting. He’s helped on this journey by the even-better-than-I-remembered-it performance of Harrison Page, who provides perhaps the most raw, vulnerable, and downright emotional performance I’ve ever seen in an action film. The way his Joshua starts out sad, defeated and desperate and gradually finds a kind of purpose and nobility in training Leon is a great character arc, and it brings him to a moment, right at the end, which is unlike anything I’ve seen in an American action film.

The other thing that amazed me about the movie (other than the fact that it’s a semi-remake of Midnight Cowboy – Who knew?) was the aspect that likely affected me most as a youngster, and that’s the utter contempt that the film shows for the upper classes who are funding the brutal no-holds-barred fights. If the film’s battles aren’t the most spectacular thing ever, their settings are absolutely stunning, and steeped in subtext. Van Damme’s first professional fight is in a parking garage beneath an office building, literally taking place in the underbelly of New York’s wealth-obsessed establishment. From there the action moves out to LA, but the satirical settings don’t stop – there’s a huge pool in a beachside mansion, a squash court, and a ring constructed from the luxury automobiles of the elite who have come to watch men beat each other nearly to death. This all leads up to the final battle which takes place well within the closed walls of the upper-class, a tennis court around the back of a palatial estate. The entire film works as an attack on the kind of people who commoditize human beings, and if the message gets a little heavy-handed at times (and it does), at least the movie was trying to say something important, unlike just about all of its brethren.

I loved Lionheart as a child. As an adult, crazy as it may seem, I respect it.

Fascinated by film at an early age, Harrison sought the Hollywood dream after serving in the military.

He began, as most starting in the business do, by snagging small roles on television, film and stage. And looking back, has amassed a resume in an astonishing amount of popular shows, including C.P.O. Sharkey, Webster, Hill Street Blues, Fame, 21 Jump Street, The Wonder Years, Quantum Leap (which earned him an Emmy nod), Melrose Place, Ally McBeal, ER, JAG, and Cold Case, to name but a few.

But it was his role in the cult classic series Sledge Hammer! (yes, the exclamation point was in the title) that cemented him into certified pop culture status. In it, he played Captain Trunk, the Pepto-Bismal-swilling, beleaguered head of a police department featuring the titular vigilante office (played by David Rasche). (Ed. note-  If you are not putting this series on your Netflix queue this very moment, we don’t want to know you.)

Harrison spoke about his time spent on the set with a young Van Damme, his fond memories of Sledge, and the wisdom he’s amassed in his four decades of Hollywood. Thanks, Harrsion, from your pals at Natsukashi.

Kickboxer: potential lawyer takes up fighting to avenge his once cocky, now disabled, brother in a Muay Thai match against a monster. From the outset (Van Damme and his brother on a boat looking like child-molesting sex tourists) you know this is vintage 80s. The songs – and dance scene – are also criminally cheesy, yet perversely enjoyable. All bad guys passed their ‘villain 101′ course: stab dog, rape girl, fight dirty, kidnap a cripple… and no martial arts film would be complete without a wise Confucius. Why not chuck a jive-talkin’ black guy who’s addicted to pussy in the mix too? Overall, the acting’s pretty bad, and the films nothing more than an excuse for Van Damme to flaunt his skills, accent, muscles, splits and gnarly dancing. You know what you’re getting with this one and although it’s not packed with fights/action you could do a lot worse with 90 minutes. Vintage Van Damme.

Score: 6/10

Josh Koscheck and Anthony Johnson have verbally agreed to fight each other at UFC 106 on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas.

Koscheck announced Tuesday on his Twitter account that he would be fighting Nov. 21 in Las Vegas in a co-main event fight.

“I got some big fight news for me,” he wrote. “I am fighting Nov 21 in Vegas. Co main event!!! Haha it’s on baby!!!!”

Following Brock Lesnar’s withdrawal from his title defense against Shane Carwin, the scheduled UFC 106 co-main event, Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin, became the main event. Reports surfaced later that the UFC was looking to bolster the card with a new co-main, and that now appears to be the case with Koscheck-Johnson.

Koscheck stopped Frank Trigg at UFC 103 in September to rebound from an upset loss to Paulo Thiago in February. Sherdog.com’s No. 5-ranked welterweight, he has 11 UFC wins and four losses. Johnson, 8-2, has won three straight in the Octagon. Most recently he stopped Yoshiyuki Yoshida on Oct. 24.

Todo mundo já ouviu falar no famoso Retroceder Nunca, Render-se Jamais (No Retreat, No Surrender) que acabou revelando Jean-Claude Van Damme, que foi o vilão da história. O que pouca gente sabe é que este é apenas o primeiro de uma série de 3 produções de porradaria pura.

O último deles ficou conhecido por aqui como Os Irmãos Kickboxers (No Retreat, No Surrender, The Blood Brothers) e é o que tem uma historinha mais elaborada. Como sabem, os filmes de luta são semelhantes aos de sacanagem num ponto: a trama é o que menos importa. O negócio é a ação!

Vai abaixo a cena final, onde os bons irmãos encaram o terrível Franco, que faria o tal de Tony Jaa pedir penico com 30 segundos de luta. Considerando que foi filmado quase 10 anos antes de Matrix, que revolucionou as coreografias de combate, até que as lutas são bem feitas. A sonoplastia é tosca, mas garante o espetáculo.

PS: Não gosto muito de postar videos com mais de 2 minutos, mas tude bem. Lembro que assisti várias vezes essa sequência quando criança. Agora dei algumas risadas.

Being familiar with the Jean Claude Van Damme oeuvre, Kickboxer is not breaking the mold of the typical revenge story martial arts movie. Seeing him doing his signature splits and aerial roundhouse kicks is still quite enjoyable.

This movie starts with a kickboxing match with Eric “The Eliminator” Sloane (Dennis Alexio) defeating another opponent. He has defeated all of the best fighters in America. After the match, a reporter tells him and his manager brother, Kurt (Van Damme) about going to the birthplace of kickboxing, Thailand.

Once in Bangkok, Eric is set up in a match with the barbaric Muay Thai warrior, Tong Po (Michel Qissi). Eric is over-estimates his opponent and he becomes paralyzed from the waist down.

Blinded by the desire for revenge, he seeks out the tutelage of a master Muay Thai teacher, Xian (Dennis Chan) in a straw hut in the middle of the jungle. Xian doesn’t think that Kurt has the chops to defeat.

As in any film of this elk, he falls in love with a girl. In this case, she is Xian’s niece, Mylee (Rochelle Ashana). The local crime boss, Freddy Li (Steve Lee) wants to destroy everything in their lives.

What can I say? The acting is not very good. It was a stretch that Kurt was American. Okay. The fight scenes were too rehearsed to taken seriously.

The only good things about the movie is the skimpy costumes, Haskell Anderson and Dennis Chan.

Judgment: The only way you could enjoy this movie is that you love S&M.
