My daughter has had UTI's from the time she was a small girl (she is nearing her 25th birthday). I was told it was due to bubble baths so we stopped those but thru her teens she would still have these infections (painful, frequent and bloody urination, chronic flank pain). A few years ago a CT showed Medullary Sponge Kidney. We have read what we can find about this congenital disorder. She had Postpartum Kidney stones in 2007. I have seen her have clear then dark amber urine and then clear again within hours of each other. She is currently having the aforementioned as well as night sweats, nausea, vomiting, and flank pain. Is there any routine care or follow up she should be having or what could/should be looked into?

I am a 40 yr old female with lifelong history of urinary problems. UPJ both kidneys discovered at age 14, left total and right partial blockage. Pyeloplasty and stone removal, left kidney at 14, right remained partially blocked until endopyelotomy 19 yrs later. Continued chronic pain, tons of sediment in urine. Stones hide and are only treated when "seen". I have had hydronephrosis since first discovery at 14. This specialist says there is nothing wrong. My kidneys are malformed, since birth. Mother had Spina Bifida, had bladder removed at age 14 and had PKD. I'm constantly tired, regardless of sleep; trouble sleeping, can't concentrate, eyes swollen upon awakening, feet and ankles swell constantly, my appetite is terrible and I take meds to make me want to eat. Nausea and vomiting are a regular part of my daily life, very dry skin no matter my efforts. These are many of my "regular" symptoms.

My husband was diagnosed and suspected to have kidney stones from the result of a urinalysis. He hasn't undergone abdominal ultrasound to confirm. The only sign and symptom he experienced on the day we rushed him to the hospital was sudden excruciating pain on the lower left of his back. No difficulty in urinating, nor fever present. Before this episode, he was experiencing some sort of muscle weakness at his hips, but thought that this was due to work fatigue. With these symptoms, can the suspected kidney stones be just at the early stage and still curable?

I'm a 70 year-old Caucasian male in good health other than high blood pressure. It is under control with meds, but I'm making kidney stones at an alarming rate. Every 4 to 8 months I must have kidney stones "blasted". I have had numerous test done. I understand that my oxalates and calcium are high and "whatever" controls them is low. On May 17, 2012 they blasted a 9mm stone, on Nov 2, 2011, it was a 6mm stone, before that I needed stones blasted in June 2011, April 2011 and the list goes on. My doctor has me taking 180mg of pot citrate twice a day. I am also taking meds for my blood pressure. I have adjusted my diet as suggested, but nothing seems to help. Are you able to help me rid myself of these kidney stones? I'm willing to try experimental drugs if needed.

My mom has been having kidney stones for the last year and a half which has caused her kidneys to stay dilated. She continues to have stones and infections, such as kidney and urinary tract infections. She has been suffering and her urologist can't figure out why. She keeps on having UTIs. Her problem is unilateral. The doctor states that her urine flow is backing up in her kidneys causing stones up to 11cm. They have tried to blast them and they just recur back-to-back. The stone last year caused her bladder prolapse and her UTIs are not cured with medicine. She has been diagnosed with hydronephrosis and has been told that it is a blockage but has not been given a reason for it. She is in pain and her body is swelling. Last year she had to receive emergency dialysis. She has HMO insurance and must go through red tape to get a referral. My mom is suffering and has been in and out of the hospital for pain management. Her CT does not show a stone but her KUB shows that there are stones. I am tired of her suffering. I was told that the longer her kidney continues to be dilated the more damage it can cause. I am looking for additional information to understand what's going on. What is making her stones continue to come?
