Wow I was negative back then. I don’t think I have progressed much from that point but my mindset is a lot better now.

If you are not moving forward, then you risk moving backward. Thinking about how nothing was accomplished will not get you anywhere tomorrow. Act.

after sending out birthday invitations i’ve been asked all too many times what i want for my birthday.

truth is i’m very grateful to have who i have around for my birthday this year, as i was very prepared to have a non-celebration.

turning 20 is a scary thing. it’s the start of a new decade and a departure from youth. i have officially one month left of true teenhood.

i guess that’s why  i’ve had this strange obsession with youth and childhood lately. of being truly young.

these two books were my favourite books growing up. strangely, i’ve lost my copies of both these books. which might be a good thing because they were pretty weathered. i’ve gone through a bit of a book-rut recently, and have resorted to re-reading my harrypotters. so a return to my childhood would be much welcomed.

how much did we love lego as kids? seriously. this feature might be a little belated but i’ve had a deep appreciation for these much-hyped pieces for a long long while. from the heart brooch to the bowtie clip to the marcjacobs belts. too cool, too cute.

when i was a teenager, i was kinda fat. lol. it’s not something i’m ashamed of, rather it’s still part of who i am. which is why for much of my teenage years i wore nothing but black. to this day, i would say 50% of my wardrobe is still black. i love a good well-fitted black tee with a simple but sexy print. featured are 2 shirts from Dior Homme and Kris Van Assche (which technically are both by the same guy), but there are a million different tees which are equally cool. Passarella, House of Holland, Insight… just some of the more appreciative brands out there. i think they just have to be special. black tees can be forgettable, and it’s important that they not be.

then the kidult was born. the printed shirts from Gucci’s most recent cruise line are pretty cool. this one features a zipper pattern which i think is just amazing. it comes in a darker colourway which is equally cool but very different. the new signature Tattoo print by Gucci which is incorporated in another shirt as well as a very cool windbreaker are also very fun additions to a wardrobe.

taken from marc’s marc by marc resort line, these lightweight twill shorts come in an array of colours. i die for the khaki brown and the blue (featured above). the piping on the side is a subtly interesting detail whilst the strange material (which must be some nylon cotton hybrid) is comfortable and very sexy. i’ve refrained from buying this shorts for a while only because i have too many, but i think the brown pair would make a great addition as a fun basic piece.

haha. okay. so i’ve been a bit of a lanvin lover lately. it’s late rebirth has been nothing short of spectacular and these shoes are so fucking sexy. the beige/gold colourway is super chic and the metal toe cap is super cool. it’s a grownup sneaker for the fashion forward. i’ve tried Pierre Hardy and i have a pair and i have to say they’re REALLY uncomfortable. i’ve done about 10min in the lanvin and they seem so much better. so. haha. the suede/metallic contrast is super cool.

so obviously a wishlist is just a wishlist. there are million things i’ve wanted over the course of my life, some of them are still listed in the archives of this blog (raf simons x eastpak denim bag/ paulsmith toothbrush/ hermes planner… lol). but they’re all just wishes. along with return tickets to newyork, more leave at work, a pack of american spirits (i miss those so bad).

i’m perfectly happy with the gifts i get every year. gifts which mean something and say something about our friendships and relationships. the shirts, the dvds, the cards.

cards are the best. a nice heartfelt message from the people you care for.

and with that i end this premature coming of age entry. i cannot wait for march to be over.

Mark Sayers has written a thoughtful post on twenty and thirty somethings who don’t want to grow up. The thinking is that we are less willing become adults and take responsibility these days than we were 50 years ago.

• We don’t want to be adults because we are afraid of commitment and responsibility. By admitting that we are adults, it means that we will have to do some stuff that needs doing.
• We don’t want to be adults because we are secretly afraid of dying. We have been affected by our culture’s materialist worldview. We are afraid of being adults, because it mean that we have to admit that we are no longer young, that we are aging, and that the countdown to our death is ticking. Our culture has no answer to this problem, many of us as believers have forgotten that we do posses the answer to this problem.
• We prefer youth to adulthood because the young are pampered, they have things done for them, they have others looking out for them. By being young you expect others to meet your needs.
• We prefer youth to adulthood because the young have not learnt to delay gratification.
• We prefer youth to adulthood because the young tend to be more self-focused than adults.

I’ve come across some thinking like this before (can’t think where), where the young adults are called kidults – the get paid like and adult but seem to drift along without too much responsibility (I speak as a 30-something). I wonder what the root cause is? Perhaps due to a generation that has not had to think about global war? A generation that has grown up with everything one could need and more? A generation that cannot afford to be responsible (in the case of housing – they can’t afford them)? Perhaps, in also being a generation that has (generally) rejected God, of had God rejected for them by their parents, they do not know who they are suppose to be and are busy building an identity out of other things.

In her book Visualising Hope, Dr Sarah Dunlop found that the key values of the young people she spoke to (students) were self-expression, freedom, and fun. Perhaps if you play out these values without any balances you get a generation who are always seeking new things and never ready to take responsibility.

Fui ao shopping conferir as maravuuulhas tectec da Imaginarium. Fiquei pra morrer com esse porquinho-caixa-de-som-dos-infernos! Primeiro; a qualidade de som, pensava que se tratava de uma pegadinha. Segundo; só vendo para crer, o design é bem pequeno, bem lindo e bem-muito- foufo. Terceiro;  o controle remoto é o maior barato, nada de mexer no click will do seu iPod. Quarto; foi desenvolvido especialmente para os donos de iPod, inclusive serve como carregador. São inúmeras qualidades desse bichinho.
Já esses outros dois modelos (foto acima, as caixas quadradas nas pontas), são caixas de som dobráveis. Só vendo pra crer. São feitas de um plástico que parece papel, estou bestinha até agora com a qualidade de som.
Mesmo que você não tenha gostado de nenhuma das dicas, passa na Imaginarium. É quase impossível você sair de lá com as mãos abanando, de tanto treco legal que tem por lá. Adoro colecionar art-toys (aliás, adoro colecionar várias coisas!!!), aqueles bonequinhos fofos de plástico ou pano exclusivos e customizados (foi um dos primeiros posts do blog). As bonecas blythes também podem ser incluídas na geração de colecionáveis para “kidults”, né, embora elas sejam da déc. de 70 e só tenham sido reeditadas no início dos anos 2000.

Isso foi graças a uma fotógrafa americana que se encantou com uma delas, acabou produzindo um editorial de moda (em 1997), que repercutiu com uma empresa japonesa (+ nesta matéria aqui), e acabou se associando a ela na produção das tais ‘fofeinhas’ de olhos arregalados e testonas (ai, por que será que eu me identifico?).

E por causa do formato exótico que não deu certo pra crianças, desde 2002, viraram item fashion pra nós moçoilas. Dá pra comprar roupinhas, acessórios, customizar… Brincar de estilista. Tipo, brincar de Susi e Barbie (fui da geração dessas duas).

No site oficial e  neste aqui a gente vê 1001 produções das colecionadoras e suas Blythes em poses tãaao charmosas. 0/

Eu nao vejo a hora de ter a minha pra fazer stylings tb. Dá pra comprar de segunda mão ou novas no E-Bay e no Mercado Livre.  No Flickr também tem preciosidades de colecionadoras – encontrei 300 (TREZENTOS!!! grupos de discussão, gente: tem sobre acessórios, por países, por tamanhos, por cor, por temas, por discussão. coisa mais fofa! – alguns desativados, claro, mas vários com o povo atuante). Eu fico um teeeempão olhando (!) Minhas amigas também e até trocamos fotitas.

Ah, quem não pode comprar uma, tem a opção de adotar, ser madrinha… é tao querido. ;p

Hoy me contrataron para grabar el texto de una compañía de CRT (Customer Relations Management) y entre los términos que utilizaron (argot de marketing) apareció uno que no conocía. Por lo menos no así de aterrizado como me lo plantearon.

“Kidult”.

El diccionario urbano lo define como: “Un adulto que no quiere crecer (o por lo menos actuar como la gente de su edad) y prefiere artículos creados para el entretenimiento de niños como caricaturas, juguetes, comic books, películas de Disney, etc”.

 OK… de Pixar sí… no de Disney… sigamos

“Disfruta de golosinas como cereal para niño, sopa de letras y se viste como un adolescente o tal vez alguien más joven”.

MMMhhhhh… ok… déjen termino mis Cheerios ¿qué mas?

“Su aptitud para la paternidad depende de su capacidad para asumir responsabilidades adultas. No son necesariamente demasiado inmaduros, por lo menos no en público. No deben confundirse con los Nerds o los Geeks”.

“Se conoce también como Síndrome de Peter Pan, Joven de corazón o Corazón de niño”.
… mmhhh. No.

i think one of the phenomenons in fashion that i personally believe is rather cool is the Kidult, purely in the fashion sense. i mean… think about the converse situation. everytime you see a kid DRESSED like an adult, don’t you think “TOO COOL/CUTE!”. (i do, however, hate kids who ACT like adults. bleaughx).

so the Kidult, is basically an adult who dresses with semblances of a kid.

look at kanye (Photo Credit : The Sartorialist). the shirt is just screaming 6-year old print. yet theres a sophistication to the outfit and the overall effect is just super chic.

dressing like a kidult is cool but i guess only a certain type of guy can pull it off well. a guy who is inherently stylish yet whose taste levels are not completely questionable. it really is all about attitude. as ironic as it sounds, i believe the kidult needs to have some kind of maturity to be successful.

the above 2 runway looks are taken from D&G and Jeremy Scott. (ps i really wanted those gladiator sandals from d&g, but they didnt have my size by the time i was prepared to pay for them. haha)

jeremy scott is really one of the more kidult-ish designers out there. at an extreme of course. his clothes are quirky, dramatic and fun, but not particularly wearable. almost very couture in that sense, yet, not in the full meaning of the word.

a more well balanced designer would be marc jacobs and his diffusion marc by marc jacobs line. i’ll refrain from featuring too much of his stuff, if not this site will become almost a shrine to him, but i really do love his designs. i mean. i probably will do an entry on my favourite designers sooner or later, so i’ll refrain from going into why i love his clothes so much here.

there is just such style to all of his garments. his outfits as a whole are always really well balanced, and this is why i think marc’s clothes are the only ones i will wear a complete head to toe outfit of. haha.

i think one of the more memorable statements that i remember reading marc saying (or at least i remember it as marc), is that he’d rather a man be stylish than fashionable.

back to the idea of the Kidult, kids these days are becoming increasingly fashionable. this kid from paris looks barely 14 (Photo Credit : The Sartorialist) and yet his outfit is beyond fierce. and those shoes.

i think there is this big idea about growing up that we as individuals always fight against and often we forget that by embracing said ideas, we might end up, as elle woods would say, so much better than before. thesis, anti-thesis, synthesis, yada yada. haha.

i guess the whole idea is to not take fashion so seriously, the way we used to be when we were kids. to feel what we feel and really go with it. although as cosmo shows us (below), dressing up and looking dapper sometimes does have its allure.

Entonces eres un Kidult (kid+adult). El kidult es una nueva forma de llamar a un grupo social cuyo consumo está vinculado a referentes de la cultura popular. La verdad es que no se pasan el día enchufados a Pokemon, en cambio si ven Los Simpsons, Padre de familia, etc. Por otro lado también disfrutan jugando a las consolas. Será interesante ver como los abuelos enseñan a sus nietos jugar al Pro Evolution Soccer 20

No es tan fácil  ponerle un nombre a un estilo de vida, porque al fin y al cabo es lo que define a una persona. Actualmente cuesta dejar de ser joven, no solo por la edad de emancipación sino porque las personas sin obligaciones familiares pueden vivir en la ficción de que no están envejeciendo.

Estas personas son de clase media, media-alta con más poder económico que un adolescente para gastar en artículos de ocio puesto que tienen más libertad y proceden de una sociedad opulenta. Es gente que no tiene un psio propio porque vive con sus padres pero si que tienen un cochazo.

Il noto fenomeno ribattezzato “bamboccismo” era noto già da tempo alla comunità internazionale con il termine kidult un azzeccato neologismo frutto dell’incrocio evidente tra due parole: kid e adult. Il termine sta ad indicare la tendenza tutta contemporanea di una massa enorme di trentenni che per evidenti motivi psico-sociologici, che non staremo qui ad indagare (chi ne ha voglia?), si comportano come tredicenni. I ragazzi si attaccano alla playstation, fanno giochi di ruolo, fanno collezione di fumetti, impazziscono per i Simpson e indossano magliette con il simbolo di Superman. A volte si comportano da idioti brufolosi e non pagano la cena, come se non gli bastasse la paghetta dell’agenzia pubblicitaria di turno. Ma tant’è. Le ragazze… Le ragazze comprano costosissimi cosmetici in edizione limitata con l’effige della Barbie sulla scatoletta, si vestono come Avril Lavigne e fanno sempre gli stessi errori.

E poi, e poi c’è Hello Kitty. Il preoccupante e dilagante fenomeno nipponico a cui schiere di trentenni tutte martini, sesso e carriera non riescono a resistere. Ed Hello Kitty dilaga.

Devo ammetterlo: posseggo il righello di Hello Kitty, i trasferelli di Hello Kitty (sul cellulare, sul casco, sul motorino), l’astuccio metallico di Hello Kitty, la pochette porta-trucchi di Hello Kitty. Alla quale mi sono saggiamente fermata.

Ma è Hello Kitty a non fermarsi: esiste la Fender Stratocaster di Hello Kitty, lo scooter di Hello Kitty, la Smart di Hello Kitty, e una miriade di oggetti che la vostra mente mai avrebbe immaginato, come questo. Io rimango impalata davanti allo shop di Hello Kitty in via Appia per svariati minuti, in contemplazione del tostapane di Hello Kitty e dell’asciugacapelli di Hello Kitty.

E’ con immensa gioia che oggi ho scoperto la prossima commercializzazione del gelato di Hello Kitty. Seppure in periodo di diete e lotta alla cellulite persistente sono convinta che lo stecco di Hello Kitty sarà il vero fenomeno estivo, l’accessorio più trendy di stagione, in mano a tutte le tardo(ne) adolescenti in età da marito che lo scipperanno di mano alle loro nipotine undicenni dalle quali non si differenziano poi molto tranne che per il fatto che le più argute vi leggeranno anche un vago riferimento fallico nell’impugnatura.

FixDesign è un marchio giovane e nuovo, per chi ama i colori accesi e le stampe divertenti e si rispecchia nel genere kidult.

Alcune lettrici ci hanno scritto per chiederci quale fosse il marchio recentemente pubblicizzato sulle reti Mediaset durante il programma “Amici di Maria de Filippi” ed ecco svelato il dubbio : FixDesign si promuove come “fabbrica di idee”, producendo una linea di abbigliamento che abbraccia i più noti personaggi Disney, Sanrio e non solo : da Hello Kitty ai Sette nani e Winnie The Pooh, dalle Superchicche a Barbie, senza dimenticare Coca-Cola in un’elegante versione vintage, i Beatles e Snoopy.

Mentre son tutti distratti dalla crisi di Governo, dalle avventure dei Mastella e da altre amenita’ simili, a Roma si celebrano le esequie della scuola e della cultura italiane.

Per capire in che abisso siamo caduti a volte bastano notizie piccole piccole, come questa. Un liceo classico romano e’ stato scelto come palcoscenico per il lancio in anteprima del film “Scusa ma ti chiamo amore”, tratto dall’omonimo romanzo di Federico Moccia [*], con tanto di conferenza stampa dopo la proiezione. Non si e’ trattato di un colpo di mano, il liceo non e’ stato abusivamente occupato, anzi: la preside difende a spada tratta la scelta:

«È un film come tutti gli altri, non è la prima volta che promuoviamo iniziative di questo genere, tese a sviluppare la cultura cinematografica tra gli studenti, una volta è venuto anche Bertinotti»

Non ho ben capito il senso di quest’ultima affermazione. E’ venuto anche Bertinotti, quindi possono venire cani e porci? Mah.

Il film – come il libro – racconta la storia “d’amore” tra una liceale diciassettenne e uno di 37 anni. Alle obiezioni sulla grande differenza di eta’, Moccia ribatte:

«Quella del film potrebbe essere una coppia reale, le diciassettenni di oggi possono essere tranquillamente considerate donne.»

C’e’ qualcosa che non mi torna. Le diciassettenni possono essere considerate donne e le trentenni (e a volte, triste per me doverlo dire, le quarantenni) si baloccano con Hello Kitty?

Alt! Arriva la generazione kidult. Lo stile degli eterni bambini, della creatività, del colore e dei vezzeggiativi. Mollettine, vestitini, micette e ciondolini: gli adultescenti. Il termine, nella sua accezione anglosassone, deriva da kid (bambino) e adult (adulto) e traccia l’identikit perfetto del trentenne che continua a sentirsi teenager.

A diciassette anni sono “adulte” e a trenta si riducono cosi’?

Se l’analisi sociologica [**] non e’ il suo forte, non sembra esserlo nemmeno la matematica:

«E poi è curioso, ma se un sessantenne si mette con una trentenne allora tutto torna. Qui la differenza d’età è la stessa, ma nessuno ci fa caso.»

Ok, in matematica non andava bene, pero’ leggeva Kierkegaard. Una volta. Ora dice cose come queste:

«Se poi la qualità dei miei libri non è quella dei testi che leggevo io da ragazzo, non credo sia molto importante.»

E non e’ importante perche’ ha “avvicinato i giovani alla lettura”. Come se “la lettura” fosse un valore in se’, e non contassero nulla i contenuti di cio’ che si legge. Kierkegaard e Topolino, pari sono.

Quelli che adesso leggono Moccia [***], una volta leggevano gli Harmony, di nascosto. Ma adesso Moccia, causa incultura dilagante, e’ stato sdoganato ed e’ divenuto un fenomeno di culto, di cui non ci si deve vergognare, anzi… e poi lo invitano anche nei licei classici, vuoi mettere?

[*] Sulla pagina di Wikipedia ci sono alcune cosette interessanti: il fatto che sia “figlio d’arte”, la nota di colore che riguarda la pubblicazione del suo primo romanzo («poi la Feltrinelli, per sfinimento, decise di pubblicarlo, ma con una tiratura di poche copie»), etc.

Aaaaah, ma allora non si chiamano bimbiminkia. E’ “la generazione kidult“!

Eh beh, cosi’ e’ decisamente un’altra cosa, si si.

Chi non si ricorda Tetris? Il fortunato videogioco 2D inventato da Alexey Pajitov negli anni 80 é ora stato reiterpretato e rivisitato per un uso piú realistico ma ludico allo stesso tempo dalla Brave Space Design di Brooklyn.

Assolutamente semplice e modulare, Tetrad Shelving é dedicato a tutti i “Kidult” che desiderano personalizzare la propria casa o il proprio ufficio e divertirsi con le infinite soluzioni possibili.

La scelta dei materiali e della lavorazione poi sono un punto fondamentale per questo studio di designers americano: si passa dal noce al bamboo per un prodotto duraturo ed eco-sostenibile.

Nu Dumnezeu, nici ingerasul din dreapta, ci mogaldeata aia de copil ce tragea odata de toate barbile care le vedea.

Totusi… toti asteptam, asteptam cadoul ce niciodata nu a incetat sa apara. De fapt el este cel mereu asteptat, nu mosul. Mosul daca n-ar avea sacul plin si pometii aia rotunjiti, ar fi doar un mosneag…
