Last night I went to The Woodsman, a cabinesque corner tavern that is very focused on food. It was all around amazing! From the service, food, and decor, to the drinks it was all great! Their menu is very northwest with many old technique dishes like potted pork en croute, and pickled herring, as well as a gorgeous seafood bar. My friend Lindsey and I had a half dozen oysters on the half shell, the potted pork en croute, the potted chicken liver with kumquat jam and toasted brioch, the Johnston county country ham plate, and a cacao bread pudding. I also got to meet and chat with one of The Woodsman owners and Stumptown founder Duane Sorenson who was an awesome guy, as well as ran into a good friend and SE hood icon Kimberly Hoeschler. Before the night was over one more treat was in store, I happened to glance up at the top self of spirits behind the bar and there I saw Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve! So ironically enough I got to try the bourbon I had blogged earlier yesterday, and it was truly very good, the best bourbon I have had easily. So all in all, The Woodsman killed it, and I will be back!

After a long day of work I met my good friend Kimberly at Whisky Soda Lounge for some food, drinks, and shop talk. She had with her a long time friend, photographer Rachel Olsson. Rachel was so great to hang out with and just happens to shoot food photography! Here is a portfolio shot of hers that I really like, I love the honesty of raw in hand cooked in pan, and the natural light feel of the shot.

I woke up this morning hung over from the Nemo party, and knew that fried food was on my list of things to do today! It wasn’t just any fried food I wanted, but something next level. My foodie friend Kimberly somewhat recently broke my cherry on Pok Pok’s fish sauce wings, and that is what I was hell bent on today. They are the most amazing chicken wings that they marinate in fish sauce and palm sugar, deep fry, then toss in caramelized Phu Quoc and garlic… and all this comes with a Vietnamese salad to cool you down. When you order these, dismiss all preconceived notions about your prior “wings” experiences, cause I guarantee these are a whole ‘nother world. The flavors are exotic and have depth, the wings are insanely tender and moist, and the outside is so crispy it boarders on surreal. Best thing for breakfast I have had in ages! Check it.
