World-class doctor, kinesiologist, and all-around great guy, Dr. Brant Larsen, just posted his completely unbiased review of my new videos at Amazon.com. He rated them 5 out of 5 stars.

Here’s what he had to say:

I’ve been waiting several years for a DVD series like this to come out. The information has completely changed my life. After all, I am one of the original participants and have been practicing the philosophies since the inception. If you want to change your life forever, buy the set. While many kinesiology systems get more and more complicated, Dr. Gustafson has made them simpler and simpler. He teaches you how to open up a dialogue with the innate intelligence that is running the body. Do you want to experience miracles daily? Do you want to stop treating problems and get down to the core of things? If you answered yes place your order.

I will admit though that XK is not for everybody. If you like to be in charge of everything and figure out every last detail it’s not for you. If you’re a left brain thinker it’s not for you. Then again, buy it anyway. You might learn something that will expand your mind and increase your results. After all, that’s what we’re after isn’t it? Getting better results.

I will be forever indebted for the information I have learned from Dr. Gustafson. The miracles and the magic it has brought to my life are astounding.

It doesn’t really matter what method you use to access the Subconscious mind, whether you use

It doesn’t really matter what method you use to access the Subconscious mind, whether you use ThetaHealing™, NLP etc, the most important thing to know is how it works. Vianna Stibal teaches that the Subconscious mind believes that every belief within it is there to serve, protect or enhance your life in a positive way. By its way of thinking there is nothing negative in it at all. It is not until the belief is communicated at the Conscious level that we realise how negative some of our beliefs really are.

Many people will ask why can’t we just remove and resolve all negative beliefs within our Subconscious mind with one command. Well, if you believe that you can then go for it. The thing to remember is that the Subconscious mind thinks that it is helping you and has no real judgement of positive or negative. So maybe if you were to make that command then there would be no result. The negative beliefs will not be apparent until they are filtered by your Conscious mind.

People will use affirmations at the conscious level to try to initiate change in their life. Affirmations target the Conscious mind in order to ultimately access the Subconscious mind. Repetition is the key to the affirmation being successful, with the affirmation needing to be repeated up to thousands of times to get into the Subconscious mind. Below is a diagram that represents the mind (courtesy of Paul Blackburn), that shows how much of our thinking is influenced by each part of our mind. The Conscious mind is approximately 10% and the Subconscious mind is a whopping 50- 60%. That explains that despite all the positive thinking, we still do behaviours and have beliefs that are not in our higest and best. E.g. Consciously we say ” I will not eat chocolate, I will not eat chocolate…”, Subconsciously we are saying “Chocolate makes me feel better, I want some now”, and before we can catch up with what is going on, we have a piece of Chocolate in our mouth. What the…Why?? Well it is obvious, 50 -60% will beat 10% any day of the week.

But what if there was a way to get any affirmation into the Subconscious mind the first time it is said, thus giving the 10% more leverage. Well there is a way and what we are talking about is ThetaHealing™. We can download beliefs and feelings into the Subconscious mind as well as remove limiting or negative beliefs in an instant. ThetaHealing™ is such a versatile technique that can make real and lasting change in a person’s life.

In ThetaHealing™ we use a basic Kinesiology Technique called “Muscle Testing” to check whether a person has a belief within their Subconscious mind. There was a ThetaHealing™ teacher that would muscle test whether a certain belief was in fact the “bottom” belief. Unfortunately there is a real flaw in this model, and that is if you give the Subconscious mind any opportunity to escape … it will! So the answer would always be “Yes, this is the bottom belief”. They would then change the “bottom” belief but the true bottom belief would be left in place, so realistically the person did not receive a full healing.

Our mind is more powerful than most people give it credit for. How many times have you become sick just before an appointment or course that was going to change your life? That was your Subconscious mind keeping you “safe”. What about people who get laryngitis just before a big presentation. Again, the person is being kept “safe”.

Whatever we say we are, we are! Have you noticed that people who say they can’t remember people’s names, can’t. People who say that they are bad with money, are. What are you feeding your Subconscious mind? Isn’t it time that we changed our mental nutrition.

Thanks for reading,

Every one needs good friends and I am no exception, but anyone with Fibromyalgia will testify having time for others is not a priority and is somewhat hard to acheive with low energy levels and the pain some days.. So anyways one of my friends has a serious problem just now and its do with the courts and is up next week for a serious charge and has fell out with only family member who could go with him.. I said I would go and support him next week, even just the thought of helping him gives my brain something else to think of…

Also another one of my pals is into Kinesiology & hypnotism “not sure of the spelling” and he offered to help me out and use me as a kind of guinea pig as he learns more about it.. I dont mind as I will do anything to get this out of my system as long as he doesnt make me do the chicken dance naked in the street lol..

Im feeling pretty normal tonight and spending some time with my son.. I think i need to make the best of my time awake and pain free..

Hi, my name is Josh, and I’m a master’s degree student in kinesiology. Sounds like I

Hi, my name is Josh, and I’m a master’s degree student in kinesiology.

Sounds like I’m in some sort of 12-step program, huh?

Most of the people who ask me what I’m studying in school have never heard of kinesiology. Every now and then someone will know that the word means “the study of movement,” or “movement science,” but that’s about it.

What is kinesiology?
I was reminded what kinesiology is recently, by Dr. Roberta Park, professor emeritus in the Department of Integrative Biology at University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Park came to San Francisco State, where I’m a student, and presented to anyone in the kinesiology department (I’m sure anyone at all would’ve been welcome) who was interested in attending.

Her presentation focused on the history of the field of kinesiology.

You see, at one time, it was called “physical education.” Someone who got their degree in kinesiology was called a “physical educator.” The field was created by physicians, in the late 1800’s, who recognized the benefits of and need for physical activity in human beings. The physicians who created kinesiology recognized a few fields that needed to be understood in order to be able to recommend and understand exercise – physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, biology, chemistry, and – yes I said it – psychology and sociology as well!

As Dr. Park points out in her paper “The Second 100 Years: Or, Can Physical Education Become the Renaissance Field of the 21st Century?,” the field originally had mostly to do with exercise – physical activity – as a field demanding mastery (or at least knowledge) of several different disciplines. The instruction of physical activity was seen as having three types of audience:

“As did many of his contemporaries, Gulick (1890,1904) (cf. Sargent, 1906)
identified three “divisions” into which all bodily exercise could be divided: educative, curative, recreative. While the three shared a number of things in common, the goal of each was different. The curative (or therapeutic) had as its object the correction of some type of disturbance of the body and was primarily the concern of the physician. The educative came closest to what most commentators meant by the term “physical education” and was the concern of all those who worked with children and youth. To this important branch was assigned responsibility for developing strength and endurance of heart, lungs, and skeletal muscles, agility, muscular control, physical judgment, self-control, and those attributes that related to the mind’s ability to exercise power over itself. The educative was therefore concerned with the cardiovascular and, particularly, the nervous system and neuromuscular functions” (Park, pg 4).

Dr. Park’s paper is incredibly important for anyone to read who wants to understand the history of the field of kinesiology, or physical education.

As she continues, she demonstrates the shift in focus in the field in the early 1900’s, moving from a discipline designed to train physical educators, to a more “clinical-academic” or “scientific” approach. This shift was consistent with other fields, that also saw the beginnings of increasing specialization at this time.

In the 60’s, as, again, in other fields, the field of kinesiology underwent still further levels of specialization. Today, as Dr. Park pointed out in her presentation, the sub-disciplines of kinesiology have become so specialized that they risk falling out from under the umbrella of kinesiology at all.

Biomechanists have become so specific in the joint angles they measure, and so painstaking in their use of technology, that they come close to losing perspective of the whole body at all, and belong more to a mechanical engineering department than to a department concerned with the human body in action.

Similarly, exercise physiologists have begun to isolate reactions to such a degree that they may as well be in the chemistry department.

Dr. Park’s conclusion is worth noting in this regard. “It is not specialization that we should fear,” she says. “It is lack of scope and perspective that enables us to ask significant questions” (Park, pg. 19).

I’d like to end here, but first, want to back up Dr. Park’s statements with some words from Claude Bernard, the great French scientist, and creator of the concept of milieu interieur – the body’s internal environment – which led to the development of the concept of homeostasis. The following has been copied directly from the Wikipedia entry on Bernard (linked to above), because it so clearly shows his clear and I believe important definition of the enterprise of science.

“In his major discourse on scientific method, An Introduction to the Study of Experimental Medicine (1865), Claude Bernard describes what makes a scientific theory good and what makes a scientist important, a true discoverer. Unlike many scientific writers of his time, Bernard writes about his own experiments and thoughts, and uses the first person.[3]

Known and Unknown. What makes a scientist important, he states, is how well he or she has penetrated into the unknown. In areas of science where the facts are known to everyone, all scientists are more or less equal—we cannot know who is great. But in the area of science that is still obscure and unknown the great are recognized: “They are marked by ideas which light up phenomena hitherto obscure and carry science forward”.[4]

Authority vs. Observation. It is through the experimental method that science is carried forward–not through uncritically accepting the authority of academic or scholastic sources. In the experimental method, observable reality is our only authority. Bernard writes with scientific fervor:

”When we meet a fact which contradicts a prevailing theory, we must accept the fact and abandon the theory, even when the theory is supported by great names and generally accepted”[5]

Induction and Deduction. Experimental science is a constant interchange between theory and fact, induction and deduction. Induction, reasoning from the particular to the general, and deduction, or reasoning from the general to the particular, are never truly separate. A general theory and our theoretical deductions from it must be tested with specific experiments designed to confirm or deny their truth; while these particular experiments may lead us to formulate new theories.

Cause and Effect. The scientist tries to determine the relation of cause and effect. This is true for all sciences: the goal is to connect a “natural phenomenon” with its “immediate cause.” We formulate hypotheses elucidating, as we see it, the relation of cause and effect for particular phenomena. We test the hypotheses. And when an hypothesis is proved, it is a scientific theory. “Before that we have only groping and empiricism” [6]

Verification and Disproof. Bernard explains what makes a theory good or bad scientifically:

“Theories are only hypotheses, verified by more or less numerous facts. Those verified by the most facts are the best, but even then they are never final, never to be absolutely believed.”[7]

Claude Bernard

When have we verified that we have found a cause? Bernard states:

Indeed, proof that a given condition always precedes or accompanies a phenomenon does not warrant concluding with certainty that a given condition is the immediate cause of that phenomenon. It must still be established that when this condition is removed, the phenomen will no longer appear…. [8]

We must always try to disprove our own theories. “We can solidly settle our ideas only by trying to destroy our own conclusions by counter-experiments” (p. 56). What is observably true is the only authority. If through experiment, you contradict your own conclusions—you must accept the contradiction–but only on one condition: that the contradiction is PROVED.

Determinism and Averages. In the study of disease, “the real and effective cause of a disease must be constant and determined, that is, unique; anything else would be a denial of science in medicine.” In fact, a “very frequent application of mathematics to biology [is] the use of averages”—that is, statistics—which may give only “apparent accuracy.” Sometimes averages do not give the kind of information needed to save lives. For example:

A great surgeon performs operations for stone by a single method; later he makes a statistical summary of deaths and recoveries, and he concludes from these statistics that the mortality law for this operation is two out of five. Well, I say that this ratio means literally nothing scientifically and gives us no certainty in performing the next operation; for we do not know whether the next case will be among the recoveries or the deaths. What really should be done, instead of gathering facts empirically, is to study them more accurately, each in its special determinism….to discover in them the cause of mortal accidents so as to master the cause and avoid the accidents.[9]

Although the application of mathematics to every aspect of science is its ultimate goal, biology is still too complex and poorly understood. Therefore, for now the goal of medical science should be to discover all the new facts possible. Qualitative analysis must always precede quantitative analysis.

Truth vs. Falsification. The “philosophic spirit,” writes Bernard, is always active in its desire for truth. It stimulates a “kind of thirst for the unknown” which ennobles and enlivens science—where, as experimenters, we need “only to stand face to face with nature” [10] The minds that are great “are never self-satisfied, but still continue to strive” [11] Among the great minds he names Joseph Priestly and Blaise Pascal.

Meanwhile, there are those whose “minds are bound and cramped” [12] They oppose discovering the unknown (which “is generally an unforeseen relation not included in theory”) because they do not want to discover anything that might disprove their own theories. Bernard calls them “despisers of their fellows” and says “the dominant idea of these despisers of their fellows is to find others’ theories faulty and try to contradict them” [13] They are deceptive, for in their experiments they report only results that make their theories seem correct and suppress results that support their rivals. In this way, they “falsify science and the facts”:

They make poor observations, because they choose among the results of their experiments only what suits their object, neglecting whatever is unrelated to it and carefully setting aside everything which might tend toward the idea they wish to combat.[14]

Discovering vs. Despising. The “despisers of their fellows” lack the “ardent desire for knowledge” that the true scientific spirit will always have—and so the progress of science will never be stopped by them. Bernard writes:

Ardent desire for knowledge, in fact, is the one motive attracting and supporting investigators in their efforts; and just this knowledge, really grasped and yet always flying before them, becomes at once their sole torment and their sole happiness….A man of science rises ever, in seeking truth; and if he never finds it in its wholeness, he discovers nevertheless very significant fragments; and these fragments of universal truth are precisely what constitutes science.[15]“

The term Comprehensive Kinesiology© came out of a discussion where Dr Ed Carlson and associates

The term Comprehensive Kinesiology© came out of a discussion where Dr Ed Carlson and associates realized that Core Health© encompasses and expands both:

AK – Applied Kinesiology
BK – Behavioral Kinesiology

and a number of other modalities as well, so he decided to describe Core Health as:

CK – Comprehensive Kinesiology.

About Muscle Testing…

Most of us have been to a seminar or demonstration where the speaker asks for a volunteer to get up on stage to muscle test the volunteer. The volunteer holds out his (her) arm perpendicular to the body and the speaker pushes down on the volunteer’s arm while making a statement.

The idea is when the statement being made is false, the person being tested will not be able to hold the arm up when the tester pushes down on the arm. And conversely, when the statement is true, the tester will not be able to push the volunteer’s arm down.

When I first saw this type of demonstration – over 30 years ago – I thought it was some kind of parlor trick, until I was the volunteer.

Applied Kinesiology was a real breakthrough at the time and is still useful today to test for physical issues. Later Behavorial Kinesiology allowed researchers to use it to identify emotional issues and correlate them to acupuncture meridians. Both systems are still widely used today and continue to be valuable additions to the toolbox for the medical profession.

Comprehensive Kinesiology expands AK and BK further by allowing to test the physical, the emotional AND energy. It’s a huge step forward with the stated objective of:

Freeing Humankind to be Excellent.

Below are a couple of videos where Dr Ed Carlson briefly discusses the history of Kinesiology and then demonstrates muscle testing (energy measuring) with a Core Health Facilitator.

Muscle Testing Made Easy with Dr Ed Carlson – Part 1

The main idea about EM (energy measuring) is that your energy knows whether the statement is true or false, even when the mind doesn’t.

And Dr Carlson discovered that this goes deeper than the conscious mind and deeper than the subconscious mind directly into the “life energy”. Accordingly, he has chosen to change the name from muscle testing to energy measuring (within the context of Core Health) because he realized that we are measuring energy rather than “testing muscles”.

Muscle Testing Made Easy with Dr Ed Carlson – Part 2

Energy Measuring Instead of Muscle Testing

Because we are measuring energy we can use those measurements to identify, adjust and correct issues that need to be addressed within the energy system. Thus, within Core Health, we use EM (energy measuring) to achieve expanded health and the optimum use of energy within the system.

So, Comprehensive Kinesiology (Core Health) allows us to uncover the original healthy core that exists within each of us by using energy measurements to guide us through the process.

Dr Carlson’s work expands upon and encompasses the research of

Dr George Goodheart – the originator of applied kinesiology in 1964 and created the International College of Applied Kinesiology in 1976

Dr John Diamond (Your Body Doesn’t Lie) in BK (Behavorial Kinesiology)

Dr David R Hawkins (Power vs Force) who discovered:

“… a means of calibrating a scale of relative truth by which intellectual positions, statements, or ideologies could be rated on a range from 1 to 1000.” – E. Whalen Editor, Bard Press, 1995

The work of Dr Bruce Lipton, “The Biology of Belief” and “The New Biology”

Comprehensive Kinesiology is a wonderful expansion beyond AK and BK because it empowers us to work within the life energy itself and make changes at the core, from the inside out. We can actually go into the system and locate energy decisions that weaken us, make news ones that enhance our life energy and lock them in permanently. This process is measurable, fast, effective and durable.

Now that’s a great idea isn’t it? I think so. In fact it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about how cool that really is.

BETTER STAY ON DIET: Mat exercises to get rid of abdomen flab are very easy to do, but care has to be taken that the back is not hurt.

Alternate-day fasting can be the right way lose weight and boost cardio-vascular health, experts from University of Illinois at Chicago have suggested.

The conclusion was reached after observing 16 obese people-12 women and four men- who ordained to a 10-week trial of not eating any food every alternate day.

The age group of the studied people was around 35-65, while their weight was more than 210 pounds each.

Also, they had kept their weight stable for the previous three months, and had body mass indexes of between 30 and 39.9. Attention was given that none was diabetic, had a history of cardiovascular disease, was taking weight-loss or lipid- or glucose-lowering medications, or smoked.

The study was divided into three different phases. The first two weeks, participants ate and exercised normally.

While, between weeks three and six, participants ate normal meals one day then would fast the next. On fast days, participants ate the equivalent of a three-course lunch prepared by UIC’s Human Nutritional Research Center. The meal provided between 20 and 25 percent of daily energy needs.

However, in the final four weeks, participants chose on their own what to eat, based on what they had learned about meal sizes and food choices.

Krista Varady, Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Nutrition, who led the UIC research team, said: “We wanted to see if they could actually do it by themselves – because what’s the point of studying this diet if you have to feed people meals prepared at metabolic kitchens all the time?” Researchers noted that weight loss ranged from 10 to 30 pounds; the researchers expected an average loss of only five pounds. To add to it, blood pressure and heart rate were lowered, along with total cholesterol and circulating fat levels.

Varady also said: “Why are some able to do it but others not? It takes about two weeks to adjust to the diet, after which people don’t feel hungry on the fast day.”

“We need to find out how long they can stay on this diet – and if they go off it, do they automatically regain the weight?” Varady added. The study was published in the November 1 issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Developed by Peter Scupham in the early ’90’s, the ReUnion Process is a unique consciousness modality. Based in love and surrender, it offers clients and facilitators alike with a sense of hope and the potential to gently untangle the shroud of limiting patterns. A ReUnion session endeavors to create a space of deep listening and compassion open to all.

This beautiful, artful prayer utilizes muscle testing (kinesiology) and hand mudras to communicate with a being’s body and spirit. The direction of each session is an unfolding mystery which may utilize visualizations, acupressure, essential oils, flower essences or physical movement. There are no specific religious, spiritual or personal belief system requirements.

I’ve often wondered how common it is for a dancer to suffer from chronic back pain during and after

I’ve often wondered how common it is for a dancer to suffer from chronic back pain during and after their dancing career. I personally had a lot of issues with low back pain while I was dancing, and I attributed much of it to the repetition of particular moves in choreography and to the fact that I have a long torso (which in my mind was not conducive to dancing ballet). Now that I’m suffering the long term effects of chronic back pain and getting older, I’m realizing that there were things I should have been doing to supplement my core strength in order to counterbalance the excessive flexion that dancing demands. It never occurred to me that dancing ballet six or more hours a day was not enough.

I knew that if I did crunches and stretched out before class that I would perform extensions and hold balances better, but I didn’t focus enough on really strengthening my abdominals, my back, and stretching out my hamstrings the way I should have. Not only that, I have since learned that aerobic or cardio training could have helped my dancing as well. An article from the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries web site states, “Aerobic fitness can increase blood flow and oxygenation to all tissues, including the muscles, bones, and ligaments of the spine. Dancers should be encouraged to cross-train year round to maintain aerobic fitness.”

Sean Fyfe is a physiotherapist working with Metis Physio Centres in London, a multi-disciplinary clinic and he works with elite dancers and theatre performers. From an article at sportsinjurybulletin.com, he says, “Dancing alone doesn’t ensure abdominal strength, good activation through glut max or activation of segmental stabilisers. In that respect, dance is no different from any other sport: its performers have to put aside the time to do specific body maintenance, in conjunction with regular screening, to give themselves the best chance of remaining injury free.”

I have begun taking yoga classes and wish I’d known the value of yoga and Pilates back when I was dancing. The mindfulness (or meditation) that comes out of practicing yoga is giving me tools that allow me to be a calmer, happier person—more capable of administering to the needs of my my family or coworkers and simply being able to breathe and be in the moment. At yogamindfulness.com, they explain that meditation doesn’t have to be something you hole up alone in a quiet room to do; it can be done just by being mindful and living in the present. Visualizing breath as it enters and leaves the body, noticing the state of your body at any moment in time, using your senses fully to take in the world around you—any of these can be a form of meditation.

Dancers are focused so much on their bodies, and I personally think it would do a world of good for them to also nurture their minds and spirits in a holistic way. We used to make fun of the modern dancers and called them “granola” people for the way they utilized breath and didn’t attempt to hide the effort in their movements. Now I see that they were really onto something that ballet dancers would do well to heed, too. Not that ballet dancers will ever want to enunciate their breathing on stage, but I think it would be great if teachers taught their students to breathe in and out with the counts during class, much like they do in yoga. With age cometh wisdom, and hindsight is always 20/20, right?

Here is a great book for dancers with information about anatomy and kinesiology.

From my experience with testing products by various methods like EAV Voll or Vega Electronic diagnos

From my experience with testing products by various methods like EAV Voll or Vega Electronic diagnostics, Skin resistance testing, Biofeedback, kinesiology, muscle testing, pendulum and other ways to test an ingredient for a person, the results with glyconutrients may be confusing.

I have been explaining this to people in my organization for years. It seems some people and their physicians who do not understand that glyconutrients are food from plants that is essential to the body become skeptical when product testing due to one simple consideration that most do not account for. You may serve your associates well to make sure all of them can pass this info on to those who have glyconutrients “tested” for them.

I have been training physicians in the most sophisticated and accurate forms of product testing for over 20 years. I have found that there are occasional limits to the accuracy of these tests. Besides allowing for the subjectivity of the person testing and the one tested, there is a very real reason some products won’t give a realistic answer in the same way other products do.

When one tests an herb, homeopathic, vitamin or food on the body the testing method may show if the body benefit from that substance or be stressed. The inaccuracy comes when an attempt is made to test ingredients that do not have a direct effect on the body or an effect from the substance or its energetic imprint. Items that are only a part of something else that affects the body often do not test accurately.

One example is a product called Oxymag from Natural Health Resources. It is a special form of Ozone bound to Magnesium.
When it is tested there is no ozone present. There is no way to test for anything except the magnesium and any negative additives if they were present. Fortunately most people need Magnesium and the product tests well. But the only accurate way to test this product is to first react the product in a vial of water and lemon juice or HCL, quickly seal the vial and then test the reacted and released nascent ozone on the person. In other words the product in its raw form does not produce and effect. It is only when combined with acids that react and create Ozone that the final product has benefit for the body and accurate testing may be achieved.

Similarly glyconutrients are only the glyco part of glycoprotein. They do not have the effect on the body that GlycoProtein does.
They may not have much effect on the body at all in fact they could even test negatively. Here’s why.

*Even if you were to be able to test several of the final glycol-proteins that still may show nothing. They do not have a direct effect on the body either. The actual result or healing or repair is made by the enabled cellular communication from one cell to another by which the body may now identify pathogens, signal for immune factors or nutrients to be brought to a cell, or a gene to express itself, etc. Other already present factors in the body are causing the results we want, not the glycos alone.

It is the body that ends up doing the work with what it has. The GPs don’t do anything themselves and the glycos alone do nothing except test similar to sugar possibly even showing a weakening effect on the body if one is diabetic or hypoglycemic or even recently ate sugar.

Those who feel they my be more esoteric and can foresee the future of what the body will do with some substance regardless of any know empirical direct effect you may also ask them to consider that a common effect of adding glyconutrients to the diet is a strong detox and immune response which releases toxins an stresses the body. Therefore the test may show a weakening effect on the body due to the fact the body will be stressed by the addition of the product.

This stress from healing processes can be moderated by drinking lots of pure water, adding fiber, other intestinal stimulants or Oxymag to speed bowel elimination, homeopathic Lymphatic Drainage remedies or massage, mild bouncing and deep breathing exercises.

Ultimately glyconutrients when added to the body is like awakening a sleeping giant of healing power. The body, before unable to identify or attack pathogens, detoxify itself and repair weakened or defective processes, now immediately has all the lights turned on to begin many processes that are long overdue. Some products may have 1 or 2 glycos but not all of the essential ones with the co-factors necessary for conversion to and utilization as glycol-proteins. This is why it is occasionally beneficial in weakened people to start with small amounts like and 1/8 to a 1/4 tsp a day and gradually increase to minimize the immune response and subsequent healing crisis with its discharges, accelerated eliminations, aches, pains, fatigue even temporary weight gain.
These actions may reassure a person that their body has found the pathogens or toxins and is making war with them, slowing the associated and accelerated aging process by ridding the body of years of stored toxin.
The body is capable of breaking down age old cysts, polyps, growths and fat .

Study more on the immune response and what physiologically goes on at the cellular level when the body heals and repairs itself and destroys viruses and other pathogens to fully understand why this would occur. Among other reactions the body makes its own toxic chemotherapy to destroy and breakdown toxins as well as releasing by-products of this toxic battle that the body has to process and eliminate or store. I hope you can get an idea of why, though necessary, this can be stressful on the body for a short period of time.

And finally, for someone using kinesiology to to say my body doesn’t need glyconutrients would be like like someone say my body doesn’t need vitamin E or Calcium or Oxygen etc. All bodies need these nutrients and already have some of them or they would be dead. So they can’t be toxic or weakening to the body. A person may be deficient in enzymes so they have allergies to certain foods but simply adding enzymes into the diet will usually begin to correct that process as well. Scientific studies have shown they can be taken up by the body and that blood levels of GlycoProtein respond to oral use of glyconutrients

Fertility issues or preconceptual guidance is part of the midwife’s role and is something I am often asked about. Apart from the usual information for someone planning a baby, actually getting pregnant can sometimes be an issue. The medical profession often do not consider it a potential problem unless you have been trying for a baby for around 18 months, and indeed it can often take longer – this must seem like forever when you aren’t getting pregnant. I do know that stress (including trying for a baby) and sub-optimal health can lead to difficulty in conceiving, so bear this in mind.

To get yourself into optimal health obviously you need to eat well, be rested. There are some very good websites, particularly the Foresight website and I suggest you work through this list.

How aware you are of your fertile period? It is usually 14 days before a period, so if you have a 28 day cycle it is day 14, but on a longer cycle it may well be later, and just to confuse things women do not always ovulate on day 14! There are various things you can use, like predictor and charting your temperature etc, but also by looking at your normal vaginal discharge (!) at your fertile period the discharge will change from a thicker creamier discharge moving towards a clear, stretch discharge like egg white. To help with conception it is best if you have sex on alternate days around this period.

Hope that something here will be helpful to you.

We are all aware of the toll stress can take on our lives. Stress can lead to serious illness. Our bodies are designed to deal effectively with stress – you’ve probably heard of the fight flight response.

The fight flight (or stress) response is a feedback loop between the hypothalamus and anterior pituitary in the brain and the adrenals (above the kidneys). This is called the HPA axis. When stress is perceived the adrenals are quickly prompted to release hormones including adrenaline and cortisol to enable the body to quickly respond to the stress. Digestion and immune function are immediately reduced so the body can take action. That’s why digestive problems and regular illness are common in highly stressed people.

The fight flight response is essential if you are in immediate danger. However in today’s fast paced society, many of us activate this response constantly – even if we’re not in real danger. Work pressures, traffic, deadlines, money problems, relationship stress, the list is endless … and the fight flight response is not designed to work continuously.

The hypothalamus, which is responsible for maintaining homeostasis (balance) in the body becomes fatigued and stops functioning efficiently. You literally become ‘out of balance’. This has a snow ball effect affecting more and more aspects of your being.

Stress is sometimes called the ‘silent killer’. You can continue to live in a stressed state quite well for some time with few health issues. Living on adrenaline becomes normal. The inevitable exhaustion is addressed with short term fixes such as more coffee, sugar hits or a glass of wine. If stress continues finally everything can seem to fall apart at once.

The many negative effects can include:
• Anxiety or panic attacks
• Mood swings
• Insomnia
• Problems with concentration and focus
• Digestion issues
• Constant colds or illnesses, or difficulty recovering from illness
• Inability to relax or enjoy life even when nothing is ‘wrong’
• Memory problems
• Ongoing overuse of the fight flight (stress) response is now recognised as a leading cause of depression

Kinesiology reduces stress and helps your body to restore homeostasis or balance.

Kinesiology helps to dissolve the stress in your system by finding the source of the stress and helping your body return to a healthy balanced state. It can also help you become more aware of the underlying factors causing your stress and help you to take positive actions to reduce the stress in your life.

Regular Kinesiology sessions are an excellent way to ensure you manage your stress levels. It is not necessary to live your life in a state of high stress and anxiety. You deserve to be happy!

On a personal note

Totally taking longer to restore balance than I expected. Still pretty tired.

On my holiday to Darwin I had a little tarot reading at the market: ‘lots of good is coming but for the rest of this year … you have to rest. You’ve pushed yourself too hard, you’ll become unwell if you don’t.’ Um, hello? Boring! Wasn’t that what I was doing on holiday? Wasn’t that enough? I’m rested! Where’s the action? I’m ready for the next thing!

Apparently not.

I’ve come to my senses and slowed right down. This month I stopped drinking alcohol and last week I even went off coffee (harder! I usually only have one a day but how I love that one.) Predictably, I became unwell. Two other friends who have also been through busy times and are now slowing down have had similar experiences.

My body wants rest. A lot of rest. I’ve tried to just go with it, cutting back where I can, getting used to the space in my life. And waiting. Just in the past couple of days a lightness is returning and with it new inspiration, new energy. But with awareness too.

I needed drive to accomplish 1400 hours of study on weekends over three years whilst working full time … and then starting my business as soon as I had my certificate … to get where I am. Without drive and determination I wouldn’t have achieved what I have.

But I can make different choices moving forwards.

So yes, I’m continuing learning my own lessons about stress and finding balance and I am making different decisions about how much capacity I actually have. However I try to practice what I preach and I can’t wait for my next Kinesiology session … tomorrow!

Core Health© – Comprehensive Kinesiology© – the energetic health expansion modality deve

Core Health© – Comprehensive Kinesiology© – the energetic health expansion modality developed by Dr Ed Carlson - is in a class by itself.

Here’s why…

I AM a living example of both denial and break through. It’s been a journey and often a struggle for 40 years.

And now I know it didn’t have to be…

I spent a long time in denial (without knowing it) trying to break through, with lots of gusto.

From my experience, break throughs only really happen when we change the energy body. Anything else is temporary. Like a drug induced euphoria, it will not last.

I have sought inner peace and growth and mastery persistently since 1971. Many times I have been on the right path only to get sidetracked – and then wake up sitting on a bench wondering which direction the bus went and why it left without me -

AGAIN…

Without healing the issues on a energetic level first, nothing can be permanent.

If our subconscious mind is filled with operating instructions that are not in alignment with our true self (like not feeling worthy, self hatred, etc…), we will simply repeat the same mistakes over and over again.

And trying to reprogram your beliefs does not change the subconscious mind without first removing the debris and junk in the subconscious.

A person can say a mantra or an affirmation a thousand times a day – or focus on changing a belief – yet the new belief will not naturalize in the consciousness unless the energy body is in alignment with the new belief.

That is the real break through.

The masters found their bliss and enlightenment – so what about the little guy? The regular person? Until recently, there was really not a method that would work for everyone.

Now there is – Core Health. It’s fast, deep, durable, measurable and transferable. And we can prove it.

Pretty cool eh?

I AM Blessings

Indian medical science is famous in the whole world. From the early ages, before prior development o

Indian medical science is famous in the whole world. From the early ages, before prior development of medical science, Indians were experts in healing the ailments and even major diseases. Thousand of herbs were recognized in India in the early ages which are used even in the modern day medicines.

Know more about herbs and famous therapies in India only at famous in India.

Acupressure

Acupressure is a therapy based on a very simple concept. We generally press with pressure our body part which is aching. For example we all give our head a massage with pressure if we suffer from a headache. There are some energy centers in the body which regulate the flow of blood and maintain its pressure. Acupressure is a therapy of releasing these centers when blocked or congested.

It is a very simple therapy which even can be done sitting on a chair. Acupressure is effective in reducing stress, increasing circulation, back pain, headaches and migraines and cramps. This therapy is successful in healing to both internal and external ailments. Asthma, constipation, insomnia, nose bleeds, sciatica, bedwetting, dizziness, fatigue and sore throats are some problems cured by Acupressure.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a therapy which is conceptually based on physical science which states that there is a physical energy force which exists everywhere and net energy in the whole world remains the same. It was a Chinese therapy which was well developed in India. In Acupuncture patient’s body is punctured with a very fine wire or needle in the specific part of the body. It is believed that the energy flows through this punctured section and heals the patient. Medically these specific areas are called as meridians. The needles used in Acupuncture may be twirled, energized electrically or warmed.

Commonly Acupuncture is used to treat ailments like allergies, arthritis and rheumatism, digestive problems, headaches and migraines, insomnia, morning sickness, labour pains etc.

Alexander Technique

Alexander Technique is a very simple method which educates us how to treat our selves. It just educates us for efficient moves and coordination of our body. Alexander Technique was developed back in the year 1890 by F.M. Alexander. He stated that “You translate everything, whether physical or mental or spiritual, into muscular tension”.

This technique is just similar to meditation and helps us to reduce tensions and anxiety. Alexander developed this technique for overcome his recurring voice problems as an actor.

It is successful in problems like chronic pain in back, neck, or joints; tension, stress, anxiety, posture and spinal problems, headaches, asthma and other breathing problems, digestive disorders.

Allopathy

Allopathy is a terms coined by Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy. It may be called as the alternate or opposite to the homeopathy. Allopathy is also referred generally as the broad category of medical practice that is sometimes called Western medicine, biomedicine, scientific medicine, or modern medicine.

In India Allopathy is often referred as the medical treatment which involves intake of drugs for curing the diseases. The dictionary defines Allopathy as “the method of treating disease by the use of agents that produce effects different from those of the disease treated (opposed to homeopathy)”.

This therapy is given using radiation, surgery and pharmaceutical medicine, which helps in quick recovery. The only problem in this therapy is that sometimes these drugs give side effects which are very harmful.

Alternative & Complementary Medicine

Alternative & Complementary medicines are a group of diverse medical and health care system, practices and products that don’t come under the conventional medicines. Alternative & Complementary therapies are becoming popular day by day and more over these therapies have a positive approach. CAM (Complementary & Alternative) therapies are spiritual, psychological, and scientific. These therapies are adopted naturally over a period of time and vary in the style of treatment they give. Alternative & Complementary therapies do not have any side effect on anybody and hence are safe.

Alternative & Complementary therapies basically are based on curing the most common problem of the day i.e. depression and tension. Every CAM therapy will definitely talk about depression and ways to come out of it.

Anthroposophical Medicine

Anthroposophical Medicines is an extension to the medical practice which is based on comprehensive view of the human being provided by spiritual science. Anthroposophical Medicines is an alternate / complimentary therapy which was founded back in the year 1920 by Rudolf Steiner. This therapy is more of like meditation and yoga but involves Homeopathic medicines, heavy metals (therapy) etc.

Actually anthroposophy is a way of schooling oneself and gaining spiritual knowledge. This therapy is quite simple based on natural sciences. It is comparable to Indian treatment of natural herbs.

Anthroposophical doctors generally restrict the use of antibiotics, antipyretics, and vaccinations.

Aromatherapy

Aroma therapy is a natural therapy done using the essential oils taken from plants, flowers, roots, seeds, etc., in healing. Aromatherapy was introduced back in the year 1920 by a French chemist René Maurice Gattefossé. But it was developed by the ancient Greeks, Romans and ancient Egyptians. Aroma means – Odour or the oils which helps in treating various ailments like stress and depression.

Aroma Essential Oils are either rubbed or massaged in the ailing part of the body. The pure essences of aromatic plants are mixed specifically to suit individual needs. These are established by a confidential consultation. These oils after a gentle massage penetrate through the skin pours and provide excessive freshness that helps reducing stress or depression.

Art Therapy

Art Therapy is a therapy of arts. This is the form of self expression using various art materials, such as paints, chalk and markers. This theory is based on physiological traits shown by different human beings. Art therapy is a therapy which uses art as an expression tool for the patient and then heals him by combining his expressions through the psychological theories.

As a mental health profession, art therapy is employed in many clinical settings with diverse populations. But is can be performed in non-clinical settings also, as in art studios and in workshops that focus on creativity development.

Astrology Therapy

Astrology is the study of the stars, the forerunner of astronomy. It is becoming very famous these days. It has been found that humans with their birth are associated with stars and planets. From their birth their behavior, gains/losses, education, health etc. gets regulated by the movements of Planets and stars.

Therefore Astrology is now a days becoming quite popular and is used as a therapy. Every planet and star has some powers and medical significance. And based on this information together collaborating with the patient’s time of birth, place and his sun sign astrologers can cure him. Even Astrology alerts people about their sickness or diseases well in advance by studying the motion of sun, planets and other stars.

Aura Therapy

Aura (Distinctive Atmosphere) Therapy is based on the belief that every substance in the universe, both living and dead tissue, emits energy and has therefore a radiation pattern. This radiation is termed as ‘aura’. Thus forms distinctly different force fields in the case of each item, in the same manner as a fingerprint. The individual auras are in contact with a universal field of spiritual energy from which they draw their power. Aura therapy can be called as a new age theory. The auras are the circles or chakkras which surround the every matter in this world and they well in advance tell us about the forthcoming sickness or the falsie energy.

Aura can be felt like the boundary of amoeba or if we close our eyes and press them after a few seconds we can see some circles through our closed eyes.

Ayurveda Therapy

Ayurveda is one of the oldest and most popular alternate therapies of curing various diseases. Ayurveda was recognized and is in use from the ages. It was used by sages and even ayurveda was described in various great Hindu epics like Ramayana. Ayurveda involves medicines made from natural herbs that don’t have any side effects. Ayurveda means science of life.

Any treatment in ayurveda involves three steps:

    * Healing illness
* Prevention of disease
* Longevity or age reversal

The basic view of Ayurveda is that living beings are combinations of three energy-elements: air (called Vayu or Vata), fire (called Pitta), and water (called Kapha). When these elements are balanced, one is healthy. Illness is defined as an imbalance of these elements; all disorders are excesses of one or more element.

Biodanza Technique

Biodanza Technique is a new therapy which means dance of life. ‘Bios’ means ‘life’ and ‘danza’ means ‘dance’, is a unique system of Human integration and growth stimulated by music, rhythm and emotions. This therapy was introduced by Rolando Toro Araneda in the year 1960. This technique is based on physiological traits of humans that vary from person to person.

Biodanza is about falling in love with life, falling in love with you, and finding the courage to look at yourself with respect and without criticism. It is about finding the pleasure in life again.

Biodanza therapy is based on five lines ‘Vivencia’, which are:

    * Vitality
* Sexuality
* Creativity
* Affectivity
* Transcendence

Body Alignment Technique

Body Alignment Technique is a young therapy but very efficient. BAT or Body Alignment Technique uses a vibration method. This vibration access the higher intelligence of the body. This therapy identifies the energy pathway and the story behind the imbalance. Body Alignment therapy help you to reconnect with your essence, and assist you to rediscover who you really are and to unblock your true potential. And this way body gets restored with free flow of energy and actually making a body empowered.

BAT was introduced back in the year 1970 by Jeff Levin in South Africa.
This therapy is based on five principles:

    * Balance
* Release
* Increase
* Relieve
* Align

Body Stress Relief Technique

Body Stress Relief Technique is an additional technique which is commonly practiced to restore the energy in the body and this way stress can be kept away. BSRT or Body Stress Relief Technique can be done anywhere. A patient is laid down and tells the practitioner about the parts of his body in which he is finding stress. After this the practitioner takes a small test to identify the actual stress by slightly touching and massaging the body parts. He checks out the responses through the body feedback. After knowing the stressed part, practitioner then selects the medians to work on. Then he applies stimuli by the means of light but with definite pressure. This way body releases the stored tension.

Bowen Technique

Bowen Technique is a medical therapy that deals with subtle muscle/nerve/connective tissue. Bowen Technique was introduced by Tom Bowen in Australia. This therapy involves working gently, non-invasive and performed through the clothing. This therapy is given with specific sequences of gentle, rolling “moves” which are done across superficial muscles, tendons and nerves. It de stresses a lot and the results are profound and lasting which can be felt in only 2 to 3 sessions.

Unlike massage or other manipulations that try to force a change, Bowen simply resets your body to heal itself. Although it only involves gentle moves but still it stimulates so powerfully that the patient is given rest and “cook” a few minutes between segments in order that he completely integrate the neurological changes.

Channeling
It is a technique of distressing oneself. Channeling is not new it is a process we all do in our sub conscious mind. This alternate technique of stress busting is very effective and easy. This therapy involves a process whereby a channel links telepathically to a communicator in a different dimension in order to bring through guidance and information. The process of channeling from a channels point of view involves preparing themselves energetically so that their personal energy complements that of the communicator. Here the channel raises their personal vibration significantly as well as altering their brainwaves to predominantly theta/alpha patterns. This channeled link then help a person to release his stress.

Channeling therapy is some what like reiki being practiced in India.

Underlying the material structure and physiology of our bodies is an energetic level. Our sensory perceptions of the material forms of our bodies and our surroundings are somewhat illusory: to our senses everything seems very solid and distinct, but actually what we are perceiving is mostly empty space with energetic connections. Our understanding from modern physics and ancient spiritual teachings is that what we term matter is interchangeable with energy and that matter is simply a more dense form of energy. Clinically we can view the material form of our bodies as a lower frequency version of our energetic nature.

Disease begins at the energetic level long before it can be detected physically, and healing usually begins at this same energetic level. When body energy is flowing correctly and in the right quantities, the chemical/structural aspects of the body come into alignment with the body energy and healing proceeds rapidly. We see this over and over in the clinic.

Our understanding is that chronic disease or pain states usually occur on an energetic level first; when these imbalanced states persist for periods of time ranging from weeks to years, a physical change occurs that reflects this. It is at this point that the Western Medicine diagnostic methods can usually identify the problem.

So many times patients have gone to Western medical doctors with various symptoms and been told that the lab tests do not show any problems. However, as time passes and the patterns become frozen into physically detectable forms, treatment becomes much more difficult. If imbalances are treated in their earlier energetic phases, balance is much easier to restore and most physical symptoms can be avoided. It is these energetic imbalances that we focus on discovering and correcting with our WholeHealth WellnessTM techniques.

Coming soon: The four predominant historical systems of Energy Medicine.

Switching in Kinesiology | It is what it is!

Trust what you are sensing – It is what it is. After years of figuring out what it means to muscle test, I finally came to the conclusion that being a good muscle tester I only needed to admit to my self: “trust what you are sensing” and go from there.
[Huib Salomons]

Switching in muscle testing – Take for example the observation of a muscle test showing a “Weak” reaction. It is common practize to make the assumption one has to test from “Strong” to “Weak”. Meaning anything other than “Strong” is “not good”. It is from this point of view, practitioners speak of “Switching”. It is from this point of view a certain Dr. Moon deviced a protocol to determine whether someone is switched or not. Other Kinesiologies also have corrections for Switching. Although they might work and correct the situation, I find these to far from the source. They do not address the problem that is showing. The problem can be of electrical (neurological), energetic, subconscious nature. The one thing I have learned from my Hypnosis classes is: look for the possibilities and do something with it!

Muscle testing is NOT Applied/Specialized Kinesiology! Muscle testing is an art. And just like driving a car you have to learn to drive it properly! Applied/Specialzed Kinesiology utilizes Muscle testing!

Switched? Find the source and act! on that – Now when you take muscle testing as I propose you to do, this is what you can do when you suddenly find a “Weak” muscle test reaction! Depending on how you started this sequence, I recommend you approach the problem directly and do a Body Scan. Because you are in a “Weak” muscle test mode, you do a Body Scan and look for any spot that makes your muscle test react “Strong”. And you take action to correct that spot or include the information held by that spot in your process of balancing.

Again a good practitioner trusts what s/he is sensing, finds the source of the problem using muscle testing and starts balancing from there!

Today was the decision day and it seems that the tissues have died and Mum has made the difficult decision to go ahead with the amputation today.

Mum is naturally very upset (an amputation is not unlike a death and there is a natural grieving process) but we know (through kinesiology) that Oliver has given his permission for this surgery and, in fact, was very clear that it was preferable to euthanasia.

Throughout this journey he has been in exceptionally good spirits. They can’t believe how calm and positive he’s been and I’ve no doubt at all that it’s largely due to all the healing he has been receiving. Mum’s had to take him to work with her so she can continue nursing him and giving him homeopathy and he’s been carted back and forth to vets and he’s become quite the little traveller!

The wonderful peacefulness that has filled him this week will undoubtedly help him with this operation and transition into a new state of being. Healing always works for the highest good and I truly believe that this will make both Oliver and Mum stronger and better for having had this experience.

Your continued prayers are welcome for this new stage of transition.

Blessings,

Surrogate testing | we can not do without

Surrogate muscle testing is a technique we – as practitioners of applied/specialized kinesiology – use to muscle test places we can not muscle test. A definition for “surrogate muscle testing” is “muscle testing in place of”.

About: Surrogate Testing

“At the seminar, Dr. Winer also discussed “surrogate testing.” For this, the practitioner does not do the muscle testing on the person to be tested directly but to another person. Two people sit beside each other, first the person to be tested and then the surrogate. The practitioner stands in front of the surrogate. The testee holds the item to be tested in one hand and places his/ her other hand on the surrogate’s hand, and then the tester tests the outstretched opposite arm of the surrogate.

I know this sounds strange, but it does work. The reason for it, as Dr. Winer explained, the energy of the testee passes through into the surrogate. If one doubts this, Dr. Winer said to have two people hold hands and …”. [ More on surrogate testing ]

Strangely enough, my fellow practitioners only refer to surrogate testing as “muscle testing long distance”. When I look at my muscle testing practice I see many ways how I use surrogate testing. So I dare state that I can not do without it. My testing has many ways of incorporating surrogate muscle testing.

I love it to find the effect of surrogate muscle testing. To show what I mean, when I trancefer a muscle test of an arm muscle (say “weak”), to a muscle test of an leg muscle. Only to find the leg muscle (first test “strong”) now testing “weak”, as if the information of the arm muscle was tranceported to the leg muscle. The mechanism I use – to make it possible – is retentionmode or pauselock.

Can you imagine the thrill I get, when I find the surrogate muscle test does not trancefer. Only to find myself succeeding in making it work using corrective work after all.

In the same way we can address the information of any part of the body – or everything at all – to other parts of the body. Giving us the edge of working, changing and checking the information as we have made our corrections. The possibilities do not only apply to the example suggested in the related article.

The Body Scan, an ultimate variation of surrogate muscle testing

As a matter of fact, the Body Scan is the ultimate expression of the surrogate muscle testing. As you will remember the Body Scan is done by focussing on specific parts of the body, followed by a manual muscle test as it is done with applied/specialized kinesiology. The items: other part of the body, locking in of the information by focussing – substitute for the pauselock or retentionmode – and using any type of muscle for muscle testing are all main ingredients that make the Body Scan a true candidate for an ultimate expression of Surrogate muscle testing.

When you have read this article with great intention you may find yourself looking for other ways and you will agree “we as muscle tester can not do without Surrogate Muscle Testing!”

Recently, I had to make small talk with a stranger. For about forty-five minutes. These sorts of social niceties are easy for some people; I find them exhausting. Fortunately for me, she did most of the talking.

It was one of those oh-my-goodness-I-don’t-live-in-Kansas-anymore kind of conversations.

I find I have these moments more and more, as my lifestyle shifts farther and farther from the mainstream. Not too long ago, some out-of-town guests paid an unannounced visit, with three kids–3, 7, and 10 years old–in tow. They live about 12 hours away, but called 15 minutes out. I’d just finished making a big skillet full of mujadara, with a side of lightly steamed green and golden zucchini. I looked at the food on the stove, then at the Man Friend. “We’re going to have to go out to dinner, aren’t we?” Yep.

When they arrived, the eldest immediately strode from the front of the house to the back, looking in every room, appraising the place in that matter-of-fact way kids have. His inspection finished, he looked puzzled: “Where’s the TV?” Hoo boy. After that, the visit was one curiosity after another. No soda or juice in the fridge. Bikes in the living room. Meditation cushions in one corner of the sleeping loft (“Is this where the dogs sleep?”). And we walked to dinner, twelve blocks away, where the mac & cheese disappointed for not being exactly like the mac & cheese they were used to.

None of this is meant to sound critical or demeaning of this particular family. What I do intend to criticize is our culture’s delineation of who’s normal and who’s not, and how we so fiercely enforce it–especially since normal is killing so many of us.

I started off ahead of the curve, thanks to my upbringing. An accident of geography and sheer economic necessity meant I was raised largely on food my mother grew or harvested on our land–raw goat’s milk, fresh vegetables, wild-picked berries. When, in my twenties, the hygienist at my dentist’s office couldn’t believe I didn’t grow up drinking fluoridated water, I had no explanation for my straight, cavity-free teeth. I hadn’t yet read about Dr. Weston Price and his theories regarding the poison that passes for modern “foods”.

At thirty, I had to start paying attention. Even with my “healthy” diet–loaded with whole grains, fruits, and vegetables–and regular exercise, I was getting sicker and fatter with each passing year. Seeing photos of myself at my brother’s wedding was such a shock that it brought tears to my eyes. Who was that overweight, ashy, puffy, tired-looking person? As bad as I sometimes felt, physically, I wasn’t prepared to see myself like that.

On the same trip home, I had what turned out to be a pivotal conversation with my aunt. She’s lived with her own health challenges, and has always been courageous and proactive in directing her own care. She told me about a visit she’d had with a kinesiologist, who diagnosed extensive food sensitivities. After a rigorous elimination diet, she was seeing dramatic improvement in her own health and well-being.

Back home, I asked my endocrinologist and polarity therapist (yep, you read that right–love her!) for a recommendation. She directed me to a Kinesiology practitioner at the local woowoo clinic, and it doesn’t feel to dramatic to say that my entire life changed after my first visit.

After giving up wheat and making some other dietary changes, my body started to change, and fast. My weight dropped like a stone. My gut was happier. My skin was healthier. My sleep improved. All from just changing my diet.

As a group, we modern humans aren’t stupid. Our wisdom is implicit in our simplest of proverbs: You are, indeed, what you eat. We know that food is medicine. The problem is, we’ve been lied to about how to use that wisdom. It is beyond the scope of this post to go into the range of all those lies, but the truth is out there, if only you are willing to look. It’s a topic I’ll be revisiting, but for now, click the logo at the top of this post to see some folks who have gotten a head start on me.

But back to my small-talking companion: She tells me she loves to cook, and thinks she’s pretty good at it. “What’s your specialty?” I ask her. She runs through a list of classic New Mexican dishes, making my mouth water: “Enchiladas–but with steak,” she emphasizes. “Posole. Green chile stew. Tamales–but they’re a lot of work.” Then she leans in closer and tells me a secret: “Anything is good with cheese. But I’ve learned that you have to pay for the good cheese.” Now we’re talking. I think about the brick of raw goat cheddar in my fridge, and my stomach rumbles. “That’s why I always buy the Kraft.”

In each of these not-in-Kansas-anymore moments, I have the same dilemma: how do I share what I’ve learned so someone else might benefit the way I have, without sounding condescending? How to indict normal without judging the person inside the normal? In this culture, we’ve made our bodies into manifestations of our every character flaw: too fat? Obviously, you’re lazy and you lack self-control. In this context, telling someone the truth about what they’re eating feels personal. How to share that we’ve all been duped?

My first step has been to simply chronicle my own journey, to write about what it means to let go of more and more “normal,” to answer questions when they come. People at work see my health improving, and they see what I eat and what I don’t. I don’t have to evangelize to communicate the great changes that are taking place for me–they’re self-evident. At this level, shouting it from the rooftops seems to put people off. I settle for small gestures, and save the shouting for the bigger picture.

My advice as a fellow traveller? Educate yourself. I’m still learning so much. Make small changes. Befriend a farmer. Eat greens. Listen to your body. Fight Back.
