Playboy’s Miss November 1976, the lovely and talented Patti McGuire, was also Playmate of the Year in 1977, and is famous in the Playboy world for two things; first, for being being to Hef’s right/the viewer’s left on the Playboy Pinball Machine backglass, and second, for being the cover model and centerfold in the issue where Jimmy Carter was interviewed.

It is the only issue in the history of the magazine to feature an interview with a presidential candidate — and of course, after only being on the stands about a week, he won the election. So now it is the only issue with a president interviewed in its pages. In the course of his profile and interview with Robert Scheer, Carter admitted,

“I’ve looked on a lot of women with lust. I’ve committed adultery in my heart many times.”

a remark that has haunted his political career as jeers from the shadows which kind of besmirch all the awesome charity work he and his wife do with Habitat for Humanity. Yes, because he is the only person ever to have windowshopped. I think it is admirable he was open and humble about it. Excuse a dude for being honest.

Patti McGuire had some opinions about fidelity and affairs as well, but they were not quite in the same spirit of confession, self-improvement, and the difficulty of faithful loving as President Carter’s:

In discussing relationships, she admitted that she believed in a “reverse double” standard. She wanted to be free to explore casual affairs, but her man had to be faithful. Could she be more specific?

“Well, have you ever seen the original uncut version of King Kong? When Kong first meets Fay Wray, he peels off her clothes, fondles her and then sniffs his fingers. Later, when he’s climbing the Empire State Building, he reaches through a window and grabs a blonde. He sniffs her and, realizing that she is not his beloved, casually tosses her some 50 stories to her death. That’s my idea of a faithful lover.” (“Missouri Breaker,” Playboy, November 1976)

Patti married tennis star Jimmy Connors in 1978 and they are still together, so apparently he either cured her double standard or overlooks it. They have two children, according to the wiki. No word on if he ever threw anyone off a building for her, but obviously he is doing something right if they’ve been married thirty-one years.

These days, Patti travels and does public appearances with other playmates, and devotes her time to her husband and children. In the above picture, she is at the Chicago Glamourcon in 2009, posing with the famous Pinball Machine. She was recently featured on a site called goodplasticsurgery.com, who pointed out that her face still looks like her own, despite that, given her age, she has probably had light work done. I agree. She’s looking well. I think it’s because she’s lived a good, happy life. What more can any of us ask for!

I found this retro VW advert online earlier – an animated stop-motion masterpiece in 1972! It’s an absolute classic and considering how far we have come in animated technology this is quite exciting. I don’t think King Kong is going to be persuasive nowadays in selling a car but just like the Dinosaur selling Chewits advert, the image and jingle is fixed into my head. When i hear or see something i really like, i remember it forever. I was watching this VW Beetle in Aberdeen on eBay a few years ago; i was so in love with it, i was checking its status every minute, sadly i was outbid and lost it forever. I was ever so gutted but now it’s more vintage than ever and is still appealing…maybe this advert needs to be re-released! Everyone loves a bit of nostalgia.

John Guillermin’s remake of the classic RKO film, King Kong (Cooper/Schoedsack 1933), plays like a much more campier version of the original with several narrative differences. Petrox, an oil company, sets off for the Indian Ocean to locate oil. Fred Wilson (Charles Grodin) plays an oil executive who believes that there is an undiscovered island in these waters that is home to untouched crude oil. As the Petrox oil cruiser is leaving for its expedition, Jack Prescott (Jeff Bridges) sneaks aboard the ship. Prescott is a zoologist preoccupied with primates whose goal is to warn the crew of the dangers of completing their mission. He tells of the horrors experienced by previous explorers of this island. Wilson suspects him of being a spy from a rival oil company so he has him locked up. Before he is imprisoned by the ship’s crew, Prescott spots a woman floating in a life raft and convinces the ship to bring her on board. She turns out to be Dwan(Jessica Lange), a failed actress who was aboard a director’s boat when it suddenly exploded. There were no other survivors. This part of the film gets a little weird. After Prescott talks to her and her story is revealed, a montage depicting Dwan socializing with the rest of the crew and enjoying her new-found home on the Petrox ship is shown. To me this Jessica Lange montage really does nothing to add to film except hastily further the narrative and establish a classical Hollywood tone. A montage like this seemed very out of place, but I guess it was necessary to get the story moving, seeing as the film is about a giant ape and not Dwan. During this time, Prescott and Dwan begin to establish a growing romantic relationship. Eventually, the Petrox ship closes in on the island and Fred Wilson, along with Jack Prescott, Dwan and other crew members embark on a smaller boat to get to the island’s shore. Once they get there they discover a primitive tribe of natives that fear an entity known as “Kong.” The natives eventually kidnap Dwan and prepare to sacrifice her to what is revealed to be a giant ape. I must comment that the appearance of the giant ape in this film was a bit of a let down. The stop-motion effects of the original film are much more intriguing than the man-in-an-ape-suit route that Guillermin chose to take. While it was probably much cheaper to hire a man to dress up like Kong than it was to commission animation, the charm that was in the 1933 version is almost completely lost. Kong looks like a mentally-handicapped ape with a perpetual look on his face that looks like he is always stupidly surprised. Once it is discovered that Dwan has been kidnapped, the Petrox crew and Prescott lead a rescue mission to find her. In the time it takes to reach Dwan, she establishes a very compassionate relationship with the giant ape and they somewhat learn to understand each other. Dwan is eventually rescued and Fred Wilson decides to capture the ape since he had promised to deliver “the big one” to his company’s bosses back home. They eventually take him to New York City to be displayed in an exploiting showcase for the public to view. The giant ape escapes and gets a hold of Jessica Lange as she is in an empty bar with Prescott. What follows is a very pseudo-emotional climax that takes place on top of the twin towers of the World Trade Center. This image is nowhere near as iconic as the one from the original film, in which Kong is on top of the Empire State building. While the poster for Guillermin’s remake makes a decent attempt to redefine this image, it falls short. In the end, Kong is inevitably defeated and falls to his death. The film ends with a shaken-up Dwan being crowded by cameramen and reporters as Prescott is approaching her.

This film is a great example of “high concept” in that it is pre-sold remake of an RKO classic which many movie-goers are already aware of. The storyline is also very easy to sell. “Giant ape is discovered on distant, unchartered island, and is forced into captivity and breaks free in NYC.” This movie definitely capitalized on the success of Jaws (Spielberg 1975), which put “monster” movies back on the map within the New Hollywood renaissance.  This film is also considered a blockbuster due to it’s high budget and mass appealing subject matter. King Kong (Guillerman 1976) made three times it’s budget, making it a success for Paramount pictures, as opposed to other blockbusters that caused financial meltdowns for some studios. This movie also went on to inspire the King Kong ride at Universal Studios. While the franchise may be strong, this film does little to add to the name. Another aspect of this movie that makes it a blockbuster is the focus on Jack Prescott as a sort of All-American protagonist. His character definitely parallels that of Hooper’s in Jaws (Spielberg 1975). Where this character goes wrong is displayed through the insignificant relationship between Dwan and Prescott. This did nothing but bother me the entire film. The only thing I could think about was why is The Dude falling for this wacked out lunatic?? And why is the dad from Beethoven (Brian Levant 1992) in charge of an oil tanker??

Dino De Laurentiis, who was known for producing Danger: Diabolik (Bava 1968) and Barbarella (Roger Vadim 1968), is acknowledged as the producer of the film.  It is rumored that Laurentiis initially wanted Roman Polanski to direct the film. Due to it’s “epic” nature, I don’t think this movie could have been made that much better with a Polanski vibe attached to it.

King Kong (Cooper / Schoedsack 1933) is a classic film that many still love today. It has since had two remakes, one in 1976 and one in 2005. King Kong (Guillermin 1976) stars Jeff Bridges (aka The Dude from The Big Lewbowski (Coen / Coen 1998)) and Jessica Lange. Jessica Lange plays Dwan, the blond babe that King Kong inevitably falls in love with. The story is similar to the original, with a few key differences. Instead of being a film crew going to the island to film a movie, it’s a oil company going there. The oil company, Petrox, has reason to believe there is a new untapped oil source on the island. Jack Prescott, played by Jeff Bridges, is a paleontologist that stows away on the boat because he believes a giant creature lives on the island. They run into natives on the island, and they abduct  Dwan. The natives offer Dwan to King Kong, and Jack goes to rescue her. Meanwhile, the Petrox oil leader finds out the oil on the island isn’t ready yet. So, he decides they are going to abduct King Kong and use him as an attraction. On opening night, King Kong breask free and terrorizes New York City looking for Dwan. Eventually he climbs one of the towers at the World Trade Center (not the Empire State building) where he is killed.

Original? Wait isn't this a remake?!

This movie is pretty similar to the blockbuster we learned about in class. It does not have any big name stars to carry the movie. The director, John Guillmermin, had directed The Towering Inferno (Guillmermin 1974) two years before, so he knew how to do a “disaster” film. So in that sense, this movie is a typical blockbuster. Another reason why this movie is a blockbuster that the movie melds genres to make itself more marketable to everyone. When the crew is on the island exploring, it is an action/adventure film. When they are hunting King Kong on the island, it is more like a chase film. When they bring King Kong back to New York City, it turns into a monster movie. Throughout the whole thing, there is a romance between Jack and Dwan. There is a odd romance between King Kong and Dwan as well, but it’s hard to describe. At the same time there are other parts of the story that are against big corporations. And Dwan and Jack want King Kong to live peacefully, throwing a little animal rights into the film. As you can see, this film throws in a lot of different elements and styles into the story to try and appeal to a wide audience.

Also this movie exemplifies high concept perfectly. I imagine the high concept to go something like this: A remake of King Kong that takes place in modern times. How could the executives go wrong with that? I only wonder what took them so long to remake King Kong (Cooper / Schoedsack 1933). Because of the popularity of King Kong (Cooper / Schoedsack 1933), $24 million was thrown into this movie. This adds to the film being a blockbuster. But the film only made $52,614,445. Considering the immense success of Jaws (Spielberg 1975), I’m sure this was a bit of a disappointment for Paramount at the time. But it at least doubled the money it cost to make. It made enough to warrant a sequel 10 years later entitled King Kong Lives (Guillermin 1986) with half the budget of the original. Needless to say, the sequel was a flop, making only half of it’s budget at the box office.

There were lot of special effects in this movie as well. The main one being King Kong himself. I read that there was a $1.7 million, 6 1/2 ton, 40 foot tall King Kong made for the film. It was the largest mechanical creature made at the time. But it was barely used at all in the film. All of the shots it was in totals about 15 seconds. Other special effects in the film were a man in a gorilla suit, several large faces of King Kong, and the King Kong hand. There is also this sweet fight scene between King Kong and a large snake. The best effects are the animatronic King Kong faces. They are surprisingly expressive. This really made me and I’m sure other audiences, feel for the animal. This makes the film a tragedy in it’s own right.

Another thing that makes this film a blockbuster is the ride. At Universal Studios in California, they have a tram ride called the Universal Stuidos Studio Tour. There used to be a King Kong segment of the ride where riders entered 1976 New York City and encountered King Kong. While this part of the ride wasn’t implemented until 1986, it still proves that this movie was popular enough to warrant it’s own section on the famous ride. It later spawned another ride in the Universal Studios Florida called Kongfrontation.

I had only been vaguely aware of this movie because of the Universal Studios ride that has a King Kong section. I loved that part of the ride when I visited Universal Studios. I didn’t know there was a movie actually. I just assumed that it was a modern day interpretation of King Kong. I guess I wasn’t a very smart kid. But I watched movie and was surprised. I was expecting something awful, but honestly it wasn’t that bad of a film. I was highly entertained, and King Kong had some “touching” moments. But other times the effects were really cheesy. There are moments where you can tell that King Kong is actually a man in a gorilla suit. Jeff Bridges acting in this movie is surprsingly good. But I don’t think the part he played would take a whole ton of skill. Jessica Lange in this movie wasn’t that great. She was often over dramatic, but her acting when she’s trying to be kind to King Kong is pretty good. Overall, I’d recommend this film for a single watch, but I wouldn’t buy it for my collection.

When I say Peter Jackson, what do you think of? Hobbits? Giant Apes? Maybe if you’re confused, one of the long-lost Jackson 5? Whatever you may be thinking, I wonder if it matches up to the critical acclaim of his newest film alongside Neill Blomkamp, ‘District 9‘. Now I know you’re wondering what this is about, that is, if you haven’t seen the trailers; movie posters, or heard of the hype from your friends. This somewhat of a masterpiece is a unique blend of E.T, Crank and Transformers, in the sense that the film’s focal point is primarily regarding an alien race, dubbed ‘the prawns‘ hunted by humans after years of being chained to earth and the realization that they’re the good guys. Let’s not forget the intense blood splatters and giant alien powered robots, shall we?

After countless alien renditions over the years, none have the attributes which District 9 so proudly shows, with it’s irresistible to watch docu-faux start, following on through to its comic genius turned crushing storyline and the underlying essence of E.T and Blade Runner crushed up into an original crazy cocktail of consumers desires. With enough scenes to keep you on the edge of your seat, cheering inside, or flinching in fear, its to be said that District 9 is one of the more anticipated and impressive films of 2009. In fact enough excitement has been caused that fans are flustered at the thought of a sequel, which is heavily hinted throughout the film. Everything a film lover could want is encapsulated within this gem of a sci-fi, from radiating blue lightning explosions to the projectile decompresser built into the kick ass biologically powered alien robot suit, or if you’ve failed to notice, a huge, hulking alien mothership over a city. Anything else? Yes actually, a lot of historical background. Whilst District 9 may or may not have been a real event, there were events that inspired it, such as the forced removal of over 60,000 inhabitants of Distict Six, Cape Town. Not only that, the film explores varied controversial issues including xenophobia and social segregation.

In all the films glory, stars Sharlto Copley and Jason Cope have been thrown into the limelight where anyone can identify the fact that District 9 has ignited a forest fire of potential for their future careers. Throughout the film, Copley showed a tremendous ability to improvise dialogue and Cope took on more than 4 separate roles, giving grand performances of the films protagonists Wikus van de Merwe  and Chistopher Johnson. Most notably out of everything is the dedication they showed to perfecting their characters, making their performances both realistic and full of panache. After watching District 9, I was admittedly one of the fans that were hoping for a sequel, with several theories as to how they go about it already fresh in my mind as the credits started to roll, Blompkamp expressed much enthusiasm as the thought of a sequel and he stated in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes: “I haven’t thought of a story yet but if people want to see another one, I’d love to do it.” District 9 is an alien epic, worthy of a place on any collectors or conspirators shelf, a must see.

Zarzaparrilla (Smilax aspera):     Contiene saponines esteroides con el efecto anabólico  y resulta excelente para los problemas urológicos,  cólicos renales, reumas musculares y de las articulaciones, psoriasis, eccemas, inflamaciones de las articulaciones e infecciones intestinales, purifica la sangre y mejora la actividad sexual.

Espino albar (Crataegus monogyna):   Refuerza el corazón y mejora su oxigenación, regula el sistema sanguíneo reforzando los vasos,  calma y mejora el funcionamiento de los riñones y facilita la respiración.

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa):  Afecta positivamente la glándula tiroide, hipófisis, rinones y bazo, refuerza el organismo en general y eliminalos edemas.  Se aplica en casos de anemia y reumatismos.

Espino falso (Hipophae rhamnoides):  Contiene los componentes biológicos altamenteactivos,  equilibra el nivel de colesterol, de grasas y azúcares,fomenta la regeneración del organismo y previene la esclerosis. Constituye un remedio excelente para el reumatismo, la gota y las deficiencias inmunitarias.

Magnolia de China (Schizandra chinensis):  Contiene una gama de componentes queprotejen las células y el hígado, refuerzan los pulmones, los rinones,el corazón, el estómago, los intestinos.  Es un buen remedio para lasfiebres, los dolores y el estrés, relajando los músculos, mejorando la vista y aumentando el rendimiento del organismo en general.

Hibisco (Hibiscus sudantea):   Con su contenido de ácidos orgánicos,  esa provechable en disfunciones renales y en otros problemas urológicos, equilibrando el nivel de azúcares y colesterol.   Influye positivamenteen el bazo y en la calidad de la sangre.

Cardo bendito (Cnicus benedictus):    Con efecto antibiótico y antivírico,  eliminalas bacterias granpositivas, regula la fermentación y putrefacción enlos intestinos, fomenta la segregación de bilis y jugos gástricos.  Esa plicable en casos de gota, gripe, herpes-zóster y patologias del hígado.

Trebol fibrino (Menyanthes trifoliata):  Se utiliza para las disfunciones del hígado yde la vesícula biliar, para los dolores de cabeza, las fiebres, el cansancio en general y la formación de glóbulos rojos.  Contiene iodo, hierro y manganeso, con un efecto bactericida.

Cardo mariano (Silybum marianum):  Las semillas son un excelente remedio para tratar casi todas las patologias del hígado y de vesícula biliar.  Contiene mucha cantidad de azufre.  Alivia las fiebres, y regenera y protege las células del hígado.

Cardo corredor (Eryngium campestre):    Aplicable a las enfermedades de pulmón y expectorante excelente,  disminuye la integridad de cálculos renales. Tiene efectos contra-infecciosos y afrodisiacos y mejora el metabolismo en general.

Galeopsisa terciopelado (Galeopsis segetum):   Contiene una gran cantidad desílice, y es un buen remedio para las curas del pulmón, bazo y sangre. Su composición y contenido son parecidos a la sangre humana, regener ael tejido conjuntivo y tiene efectos anti-infecciosos.

Ginseng (Panaxginseng):   Tiene utilidad en estados de colapso, de anemia ycansancio.  Estimula el pulmón, el bazo, el páncreas, el SNC (SistemaNervioso Central),  mejora los sentidos y tiene un efecto anabólico.

Asimismo, contiene bio-informaciones de minerales como:  odular, calcopirita, calcio, esfalerit, ópalo, etc.
El complejo herbáceo y las bio-informaciones pueden aprovecharse para elevar el esfuerzo físico, el cuál y conjuntamente con el ejercicio, favorece el crecimiento de la masa muscular, reprimiendo el proceso catabólico y mejorando el estado de los huesos, cartílagos y piel.  En caso de insolación, sirve  como protector.  Ayuda a deshacer las grasas en procesos de regimenes alimenticios.  También ayuda a combatir el cansancio en general, el esfuerzo físico, la baja actividad sexual, la psoriasis, algunos eccemas,  los estados post-traumáticos, las atrofias musculares, los problemas de articulaciones, y las enfermedades de intestinos, riñones y vejiga.  Es un buen armonizador del sistema hormonal, así como un buen complemento en el tratamiento de patologías como sífilis, condylomas y lepra.  El efecto desintoxicante mejora la pureza de las células y de la sangre.  Los componentes de hierbas tienen un efecto positivo para los pulmones de los fumadores.

Normas para la correcta administración

Por tratarse deun preparado coloide, es necesario agitarlo 21 veces para dinamizar las partículas y homogeneizar los sedimentos, multiplicando así  su efectividad.  Se recomienda ingerir de 5 a 7 gotas al día, siempre media hora antes o después de las comidas, o antes de entrenar.  No sedeben tomar líquidos inmediatamente, pero sí con posterioridad, con la finalidad de favorecer la regeneración y ayudar a la desintoxicación del organismo.  Es posible diluir el preparado en el agua en casos deúlceras de estómago para mejorar su aceptación.  Una toma al día es la pauta preventiva,  3 tomas se corresponden con la pauta regenerativa. En los casos de embarazo, no es recomendable ningún preparado regenerativo, salvo prescripción facultativa.

Se debe reducirla pauta si se agravan los síntomas de la enfermedad, aunque es importante no interrumpir el tratamiento por tratarse de un proceso regenerativo regresivo que incluso puede activar síntomas de enfermedades pasadas.  !!!Este fenómeno sólo es una reacción regenerativa positiva!!!  Superado este estadio, se debe volver a las pautas iniciales.  Para cuadros clínicos graves,  se recomienda iniciarel tratamiento con las pautas mínimas y asesoramiento médico.

En caso de queel deportista padezca una enfermedad con síntomas eccemáticos o conalergias, debería tomar el frasco unos 2 meses antes de la exhibición, para evitar la reacción reversible en esta temporada y afectar la uniformidad de la piel.  Esto es válido para todos los preparados bio-informativos y homeopáticos.  Si no se ha llegado a pasar ninguna reacción, podemos tomar el jarabe sin límite.  En algunos casos,  será suficiente un frasco para la regeneración, aplicable durante un mes y con una semana de descanso incluida.  En casos más graves debe prolongarse el tratamiento.

¿Creemos saber el significado de banda sonora? Popularmente, se considera que la banda sonora de una película es la llamada música incidental o extradiegética, la cual se compone como música de fondo, y que sólo escucha el espectador. Pero en realidad la banda sonora es un concepto mucho más amplio porque engloba la parte de sonido completa de una película, es decir al resultado de la edición de diferentes pistas de sonido, ya sean diálogos, sonidos o música incidental.
La música de películas posee por lo general características melódicas, que llegan fácilmente al corazón del público. Por lo tanto, ya en la etapa del cine mudo, las grandes salas de proyección solían poner el acompañamiento de un piano o una pequeña orquesta para que las escenas de la película fueran más fáciles de comprender y de observar.
Gracias al avance tecnológico, en 1927 apareció el cine sonoro y con ello el descubrimiento de la banda sonora. Con ello, imagen y sonido sonaban al mismo tiempo en un mismo soporte. Este acontecimiento arruino y puso en la calle a multitud de músicos que se beneficiaban tocando en las proyecciones de cine mudo. El 6 de Octubre de 1927 se proyectaba “El cantor de jazz”, de Alan Crossland, la primera película cantada, producida por la Warner Brothers. Sin embargo, no fue hasta 1933 cuando Max Steiner compuso su música para la primera película que se filmaría con edición de banda sonora: el “clásico” del cine “King Kong”. Este fue el inicio de una nueva etapa en el cine en la que la música incidental tendría un papel relevante en la música en escena.

El músico austriaco Maximilian Raoul Walter Steiner (1888–1971), fue un niño prodigio pupilo de Gustavo Mahler. Es curioso citar el cambio que dio la vida del compositor, ya que paso de ser un vulgar camionero a ser un prestigioso compositor de Hollywood. Allí, en la cuna del cine norteamericano trabajó en alrededor de 250 películas realizadas para la Warner Bros o la RKO.
Compuso obras maestras para films de la talla de “Lo que el viento se llevó”, precursora de la inclusión del leitmotiv o tema musical dedicado a un personaje o una situación concreta, “King Kong” con varios premios póstumos, o la música adicional para “Casablanca”. Además, hay que añadir que Max Steiner estuvo nominado al Oscar en 26 ocasiones y que obtuvo 3 en total por “El delator” (1935), “La extraña pasajera” (1942) y “Desde que te fuiste” (1944).

Up. Su, nel cielo. Vola ancora alto, altissimo, la magica Pixar. La nuova Disney, lo studio che ormai è l’anima della Disney, scarta il suo ultimo regalo, il suo decimo gioiello. E ci si abbandona allo stupore, allo spettacolo, come bambini.

E non c’è critica che tenga. Stavolta quelli della Pixar ci raccontano la storia di un uomo anziano, Carl, che è rimasto vedovo, e sogna di raggiungere il Sud America per vedere quelle cascate che avrebbe tanto voluto visitare con la moglie quando questa era in vita. Mentre i palazzinari stanno costruendo dei grattacieli intorno alla sua casetta, e vorrebbero tanto disfarsene, Carl decide di spiccare il volo.

Letteralmente: grazie a migliaia di palloncini solleva la sua casetta, e veleggia verso Sud. Solo che con lui c’è un ospite non previsto. Il boy scout Russell, che pensa a Carl come alla sua prossima buona azione…

Up. Alza ancora il tiro, la Pixar. Perché stavolta, in un film al solito delicato e indicato per i più piccoli, parla addirittura della morte. Dopo che, con Wall-E, aveva parlato di ecologia e della morte del nostro pianeta. Fa addirittura morire un personaggio,

Ellie, la moglie di Carl, nel commovente prologo, che è un piccolo film nel film.

Non  ha paura di fare discorsi seri, la Pixar. Il cui segreto, ancor più dell’inconfutabile aspetto tecnico-visivo, sta nella fantasia con cui creano le loro storie: lo ripetono sempre i suoi artisti, da John Lasseter a Andrew Stanton, a Pete Docter, regista di Up.

Le loro storie sono originali sia quando raccontano mondi mai visti (Monsters & Co), che quando si rifanno all’immaginario di generi come i supereroi (Gli incredibili) o la fantascienza (Wall-E).

Up si rifà a un cinema ben preciso, quel cinema d’avventura degli anni Trenta e Quaranta, anni in cui non ancora tutti gli angoli del mondo erano noti, e si poteva fantasticare sulla natura selvaggia e su creature fantastiche e mai viste, e credere alla loro esistenza. Un po’ quello che accadeva con l’isola di King Kong. Up si rifà a questo genere di pellicola, liberando una seconda parte sfrenata, dopo una prima parte chiusa e controllata.

Ma anche rileggendo un genere riesce a creare qualcosa di originale, che stupisce a ogni inquadratura. Con alcune idee geniali, come lo stratagemma creato per far parlare i cani in modo che siano capiti dagli umani.

In Up non mancano i riferimenti alla storia del cinema, come le fattezze di Carl, ispirate ad attori storici come Spencer Tracy e Walter Matthau (in fondo, l’incontro tra Carl e Russell dà vita a un buddy movie, genere in cui Matthau eccelleva).

E il sogno di Carl, il suo andare da solo, o quasi, contro tutti, ha qualcosa del Don Chisciotte di Cervantes.

Ma la Pixar, come abbiamo capito da tempo, riesce a inserire tutto in un racconto fluido e naturale, senza appesantirlo, come si usa oggi nell’animazione, con tutte quelle citazioni forzate che altro non sono se ammiccamenti a un pubblico adulto.

Non ne hanno bisogno, alla Pixar. Così come non hanno bisogno di oggetti che escono dallo schermo fino ad arrivarci sul naso per farci apprezzare un film in 3D.

Come tutto quello che fanno, anche la loro via al cinema 3D è sobria, semplice, funzionale alla storia. È solo un’altra matita in più.

È un mezzo espressivo e non un fine. Forse solo un gradino sotto il capolavoro Wall-E, Up è un film maturo e intenso, adatto a tutti (non manca un messaggio sulla famiglia e sul valore del tempo) e commovente.

Un’opera che ci parla di morte in modo così delicato da farci amare terribilmente la vita.

Da vedere perché: Pixar. Basta la parola.

O filme que passou na sessão The Essentials de domingo passado foi o King Kong de 1933. A comentarista que fazia companhia a Robert Osborne dessa vez era a Princesa Lea – perdão: Carrie Fisher, que comentou que conheceu a atriz Fay Wray já bem velhinha e pequenininha mas ainda ativa, dirigindo seu próprio carro.

O diretor Peter Jackson iria colocar Wray para dizer a última fala do remake de 2005 se ela não tivesse falecido antes de poder gravar, mas na verdade comecei este post por outro motivo: Fisher disse que Wray era a Scream Queen, a rainha do grito – quem assistiu ao filme sabe o motivo.

E a legenda do canal TCM traduziu como “rainha da telona” – ou screen queen. Aí bateu-se-me a dúvida: o tradutor recebe um script ou tem de traduzir de ouvido?
