WHY ASK WHY?

Ah, if life or real estate really were only as simple as a Budweiser beer commercial. In sixty short seconds, we could discern the hidden meaning of existence by staring deeply into the third eye of Spuds McKenzie. Or we could routinely coax ourselves into a profound meditative trance by breathing in sync with the esoteric rhythms of those magic Clydesdale hooves as they trotted proudly down the middle of Main Street America.

But no, unfortunately, that Bud’s not for you or for any of the rest of us in the real, real estate world.

There are always more questions than answers when it comes to buying a home. Or when going through any of the other major life transitions that are lying out there in wait for us. So tell me this, intrepid fellow traveler on this remarkable journey we all car-pool in together…Are we ever going to get all our questions answered?

Nope. Forget it. Not a snowball’s chance in the proverbial big down under.

But how about this as a consolation prize? Can we get a lot of our questions answered? You bet! And if you think that constitutes “just settling”, think again, because last I checked, some is almost always better than none.

Fate, providence, kismet, divine intervention, synchronicity. karma, luck – whatever name you use for “it” in the lexicon of the daily universe you happen to stroll around in – “it” always reserves the last choice for itself. The ultimate say. The final word.The proxy vote. The consummate contingency.

The more I endeavor to understand this fascinating form of soul work known as real estate, the more convinced I am that the overriding caveat to buying a home is that no matter how many questions you have, no matter how many answers you get, there is still going to be that last little leap of faith that you have to take all by your very lonesome.

A small but oh-so-significant leap over what may feel like a giant chasm opening up under your chair at the escrow sign-off table or an infinite abyss welling up in your own gut when the moment finally arrives when, with trembling hand, you have to write the one of the biggest gut checks you’ve ever have to write in your life.

Some people are better at doing “the leap of faith” than others. Some seem to be able to draw from a deep, mysterious, hidden well of courage when the moment of truth inevitably rolls around. Others turn to jello at the first hint of full commitment. Some sink into a fast free fall or start sounding a high emotional pitch when the going gets just a little tough.

With assistance, Buyers can put themselves through a kind of mental and emotional boot camp to prepare themselves to recognize the big moment before it actually arrives. Training that teaches them some of the rudimentary tools of proper prior planning and helps them get over the hump before the hump morphs into an insurmountable mountain.

One simple piece of advice is this: In the beginning of your home search start by paying attention to all those little things you actually can control in the real estate process – recognizing that there is so much that is going to be beyond your control as you get further down the road. If you go step by step in premeditated fashion and cross a bunch of nagging requisites off the list up front, you’ll be surprised at how much energy and brainspace you can free up for the future. The idea is to save and garner and hold enough synaptic juice in reserve so it is available when you finally enter the steel cage for the wrestling match with all the tougher, more unanswerable, more uncontrollable questions that are inevitably going to arise to challenge you.

You might as well acknowledge right from the start that you aren’t going to make it through your home buying experience without experiencing plenty of existential doubts, second, third and fourth guesses, sweaty palms in the middle of the night, sudden onslaughts of decision deficit disorder and heavy bouts of fear and loathing caused by pre-buyer’s and post-buyer’s remorse. Expect more than a few visits from the dreaded what-if monster – sliding out from under your bed or rattling loudly from inside your closet in the wee hours. The what-ifs will always shake your sleep with a host of their favorite old refrains: What if I lose my job? What if the economy goes to hell? What if the roof starts to leak? What if I stretch myself too far? What if I become a slave to my mortgage?

Change is hard. But you’ve got to buck up if you are going to make it through in one piece with a modicum of grace and good humor. Customizing and reciting your own version of the serenity prayer is also good medicine.

There’s something else you can do for yourself while you are at it. Don’t jump into the car on the first day of your house hunting process, convinced that you are under some biological imperative to identify the perfect home right away. Instead, try easing slowly into the car and head out on the town without any preconceived pressure or sales hype hanging over your head. Simply decide that what you are going to do is conduct “research”. Go on a mindful exploration and an interesting informational scavenger hunt. Simply take a ride and see what you see.

Since the “market” is a hard to perceive phenomena based on an invisible matrix of how every home compares to every other home in your area, viewing a lot of places over time helps you develop a gut sense for what the market is, where it stands and how it operates and evolves cyclically through the ongoing machinations of the great Invisible Hand” that Adam Smith so clearly saw.

Re-framing your house hunting as research takes the onus off the hurry up and go buy-buy consumer addiction that our culture insufferably promotes at every turn. The research mode smoothes things out and creates a more comfortable atmosphere to ask questions and pursue answers in.

No house you look at is ever a waste of time. Banish that silly notion. The houses you look at when you are house hunting don’t all have to be perfect. In fact none of them are going to be perfect. You often gain as much from seeing and talking about what you don’t like in a house as you do from seeing lots of features and amenities that you do like.

House hunting takes place over a period of time that is different for different people. One size, one house, one style does not fit all. To own a home, first you have to be willing to own your own process. Yours – no one elses. Not your agent’s. Not your parents. Not your cubicle mate’s at work. And one of the most important things to remember is that there are no stupid questions. Never apologize to your agent, your lender, your escrow officer for asking anything.

True, some of the questions that pop into your head and jump out of your mouth may sound more like zen koans rather than the rational precepts of a more staid and linear Newtonian universe – but go ahead and ask them anyway. Honor whatever comes up for you. Check it out. Don’t leave any of those stones un-turned. They can create disturbing ripples if they get tossed away before they get checked out. The learning is in the asking and in thinking it through just as much as it is in the answers themselves.

The real estate control consortium – Central Command in Sacramento – seems to have its own trouble discerning what is important and what isn’t important when it comes to turning out well-rounded, worldly-wise Realtors who can act as worthy ombudsmen for clients going through major life transitions.

When I took my real estate first licensing test, the folks at the State Department of Real Estate (in their infinite wisdom) seemed quite concerned that I know exactly how many square feet were in an acre of land as well as the intricacies of the original Spanish Land Grant system along with the exact definition of alluvial accretion.

Now that I’ve been in the business for way more than a hundred dog years I realize how irrelevant most of those details are and how little use they are when trying to put together the jigsaw of the big picture for real people.

What follows is a sample of the kind of questions that seem much more important to me when it comes to my client’s best interests in their journey through the mysterious underbelly of a real, real estate transaction.

Some of these questions may sound odd at first, but there’s a method to my madness. In real estate, fact is always stranger than fiction and when the going gets strange, you have to be able to embrace its complexities.

Here goes:

Why is there truly no such thing as a good market or a bad market.?

Why do so many Agents/Brokers claim to be #1 in real estate at the same time?

Why do the number of lawsuits in real estate increase in direct proportion to the enactment of consumer protection laws?

Why does more real estate paperwork make it less likely that clients will read the most important things you share with them?

Why is earthquake insurance really just life insurance for your house?

Why do most appraisals come in at exactly the agreed upon purchase price of a home?

Why are some termite companies known as buyer’s termite companies while others are known as seller’s termite companies?

Why isn’t location, location, location the most important thing in real estate?

Why is the fourth dimension the most important and least acknowledged dimension of real estate?

Why doesn’t a Seller have to accept a full price offer?

Why is almost everything you read about real estate already old news?

Why is there always a catch to an as-is offer?

Why ask why? Not just because you like to blast down the brewskies. But because you are about to buy a home that holds a unique place in your life. It is a foundation for shelter, privacy, comfort and safety and the center of balance for almost everything else you do. Home is four special walls, a roof and a handful of rich dark earth that nourishes your soul at the same time it is probably the biggest single financial asset that you’ll ever own.

That’s why.

What Is SerenDestiny?

Have you ever acted on a hunch and something wonderful happened?

Have you ever thought, “I really should call that friend I haven’t talked to in years – and when you did, they said, “You won’t believe this; I was just thinking about you.”

Have you ever had an inkling to walk down this street, introduce yourself to that person, read this particular article, go to that event – and it resulted in connecting you with something you needed?

Think about it. What are hunches? Where do they come from?

Some people call hunches “intuition.” Others call them a “gut feeling.” Creative people may call this their “muse.” Religious people sometimes call them “God Winks.” Scientists tend to regard them as animal instinct. Some call these “premonitions” or a “sixth sense.”

Whatever you call hunches, good things happen when you honor them. They’re almost always right.

I’ve learned many things about hunches in my study of them including:

1. Hunches happen for a reason. A good reason.

2. Acting on hunches often results in a “stroke of luck,” good fortune, a blessed twist of fate, what some people call “kismet.”

3. Acting on hunches sets SerenDestiny in motion.

In hundreds of interviews, people from around the world have told me dramatic stories of how honoring a hunch moved their life forward – for good.

The problem is, many people are too busy to pay attention to hunches. They get an internal nudge and think, “I don’t feel like it, I don’t have time, I’ll do that later.” And later is too late.

In my presentation and upcoming book on SerenDestiny, I share the inspiring message that you have more control over your life than you think. I’d love to hear your SerenDestiny stories.

Are You Setting SerenDestiny in Motion?

Several years ago, I was discussing the concept of serendipity — the so-called happy accidents when we meet the right person at the right time and right place — with my sons.

I could tell Tom and Andrew were really intrigued. Later that night, Andrew came up and said, “I really like that concept of SerenDestiny.”

Out of the mouths of teens.

Ever since that night, I have studied this topic and interviewed hundreds of people, asking them “What is SerenDestiny?”

I’ve learned a lot, including:

1. We set SerenDestiny in motion when we act on our hunches.

2. SerenDestiny is our “best future” – it’s the life we’re meant to lead.

3. SerenDestiny gives us more control over our life than we think.

4. SerenDestiny is no accident.

5. SerenDestiny is a way to meet life more than half way.

I have been asked to share my SerenDestiny story and research this Friday, Nov. 20 at the TEDx-NASA conference in Newport News, VA.

Please welcome Monica Burns to Author Toolbox, folks! Wheeeee!

Emmy: Welcome, Monica. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to chat with us today. It’s very much appreciated.

To start off, would you mind taking us through your publication journey?

Monica: Wow! That could take a while since I’ve been writing since I was nine years old. LOL

Seriously though, I started devoting myself full-time to writing with the intent to publish in 2002 after I got pneumonia and was out of work for two months. With over 150 channels there wasn’t a thing to watch. So I entertained myself by writing and surfing the Internet where I found a supportive group of romance lovers. From there I sold to New Concepts Publishing in 2004 with my first story released in January 2005. In 2007, I sold to Samhain Publishing and in 2008, I landed two contracts with Berkley Sensation for a total of five books for publication starting January 2010.

Emmy: I admire anyone who is dedicated enough to keep plugging on in the publishing world. Was there ever a time when you considered giving up on your dream to become a published author?

Monica: Absolutely. Two times I can recall specifically. One was just before RWA National in 2004. I’d just been rejected by Red Sage Publishing for their anthology and I was devastated. I debated not going to the conference, and I almost hung up my pen right there and then. But I kept on plugging away. The second time was in 2008. I’d been working on a paranormal series that I loved, and everyone was rejecting with the exception of two publishers. One publisher suggested they’d take a look if I revised. I didn’t want to change the flavor of the books, so after some thought I passed. My agent thought I was crazy, but a few weeks later, Berkley made an offer and I accepted. A week or two after the contract offer, I explained to my agent that my gut tells me things, and I listen. She was understanding, but I know there are others who thought I was crazy. So I’m really glad I didn’t give up. See what I would have missed??? LOL

Emmy: Instinct…best to listen to it, I’d say!

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Monica: Writing is hard, but you have to work at it. The ladder upward is hard to scale, and unfortunately not everyone will make it. BUT, you don’t know whether you might be one of the ones who does scale the ladder if you don’t keep plugging away. Perseverance is critical to that first sale, not talent, not networking or anything else. Just the STORY and perseverance is what will make a first sale, whether in ePub or NY.

Emmy: How did it feel to see your book on the bookshelves?

Monica: Unfortunately, my small press books are seldom in chain stores, so I’ve yet to just stumble into a bookstore and see my book without prompting the store to order. BUT, I’m hoping that will change come January with my first Berkley book.

Emmy: What is the best part about being an author?

Monica: I can escape the real world. Just like readers who read to escape the doldrums of life, I get to escape into whatever corner of my imagination I choose. It’s sort of like traveling to a foreign country and do whatever I want.

Emmy: Would you mind telling us about your latest release?

Monica: My next release is Kismet, which is a Victorian erotic romance set in Morocco. This book is very special to me. It’s a rewrite of a book that was a cathartic writing experience. I’m delighted that Berkley loved it enough to give the rewrite a chance for me to share it with readers. Here’s the cover copy.

Emmy: Now for the more laid back questions! What would be your ideal menu at a dinner party—let’s say three courses—and where would you go to eat it? Any destination in the world. Oh, and what would you wear? (I’ve just handed you a credit card with unlimited funds so you can buy your clothes and shoes for the evening…what is your dream store/designer?)

Monica: Three courses, a lovely salad with cheese, almonds and some type of vingerette, roast pheasant under glass and some sort of French pastry. I would want to eat this meal in Maxims in Paris, France. Maxim’s has been around since the late 1800s and at one time was the ONLY place to be seen in Paris. I’m not a big fashion hound, so I can’t name designers, but I’d love to find a black dress that would show off my ample bosom while playing down my far more ample hips. *grin*

Emmy: When you have the time to read, which authors’ books are you most likely to pick up? Do you select those in the genre you write or go for something completely different? And, have any of those authors inspired you in your own writing?

Monica: When I read, there are some writers I never miss. Loretta Chase and Michelle Moran are two I can’t pass up. Same for Shiloh Walker, Angela Knight and Christine Feehan. Michelle is the only one who doesn’t write romance. She’s historical fiction, but I love, love her books, and they do have some romance in them. I also love Sabrina Jeffries and Lucy Monroe and Nalini Singh. It’s hard to pick any one author who inspired me because I’ve been writing since I was nine-years-old. If I had to say inspiration, I would have to say the classics of Dumas, Dickens, Ocrzy and Victoria Holt. Those were some great stories!

Emmy: You have a day off to spend as you wish. Anywhere in the world, unlimited funds, and the twenty-four hours are guaranteed to feel like a week. How would you spend it?

Monica: Rome. It’s where my upcoming paranormal heroes hail from, and I would want to see as many monuments I could in that 24-hours to get a feel for the city and see it through the eyes of my heroes.

intipadi.com – Teknologi virtualisasi telah membuat kehidupan riset keamanan menjadi lebih mudah. Kini cukup dengan software virtualisasi seperti VMWare, VirtualBox atau lainnya kita sudah dapat mempunyai beberapa server, client atau sistem riset secara virtual tanpa harus berkorban banyak uang membeli hardware.

Dalam tulisan ini kita akan mencoba menggunakan teknik virtualisasi untuk memvirtualkan BackTrack, sebuah distro penetrasi keamanan populer. Sebagai catatan, kami menggunakan VirtualBox diatas Windows XP.

Sedikit tentang VirtualBox dan Keuntungannya
Virtual Box memiliki kelebihan, yaitu
[1] User friendly dan mudah dikonfigurasi
[2] Tidak menuntut resource yang besar pada DDR [512mb sudah cukup baik untuk menjalankannya]
[3] Gratis dan didukung oleh Sun Microsystem [Software ini telah dibeli lisensinya oleh SUN]
dan masih banyak keuntungan lainnya. silahkan mencoba sendiri.

Kegunaan menjalankan dua OS sekaligus adalah
[1] Sebagai simulasi pentest
[2] Tidak mengakibatkan kerusakan sistem karena yang satu real dan yang satunya virtual

Tahap Persiapan
Kita membutuhkan beberapa software dan hardware sebagai berikut:
[1] VirtualBox 3.0.x, dapat didownload dari http://virtualbox.org/
[2] BackTrack 4.0 pre release (terbaru), dapat didownload dari http://remote-exploit.org/backtrack_download.html
[3] USB wireless atau bluetooth yang telah didukung, coba pakai TP-LINK model TL-WN312G.

Tahap Pembuatan Mesin Virtual Baru
[1] Klik Machine – New [CTRL + N], maka anda akan diminta untuk membuat virtual macine
[2] Klik Next dan isi name dengan backtrack, Operating system = Linux, Version = Other Linux
[3] Klik Next dan isi base memory size = setengah dari DDR anda. misalnya DDR anda adalah 1 GB maka virtual memorynya = 512
[4] Klik Next dan buat hard disk Virtual jika diperlukan
[5] Selesai – klik Finish

Tahap Setting Mesin Virtual
setelah mesin virtual terbentuk, anda mesti melakukan setting lanjutan supaya mesin virtual bisa melakukan booting dan CD-ROM (karena back|track dibooting dari cd-rom bukan?) dan mendeteksi USB wifi.
[1] Pilih mesin virtual yang telah anda buat tadi dan klik setting [CTRL + S], maka anda akan melihat setting lanjutan seperti gambar diatas.
[2] Pada General, anda bisa setting ulang pada tab Basic dimana base memory virtual dan video memory virtual dimungkinkan. pastikan CD-ROM- harddisk atau floppy[jika perlu] telah diberi tanda centang pada mode advanced.
[3] Pada harddisk ceklis enable sata control jika HD anda bertipe SATA.
[4] Pada DVD/DVD-ROM pilih Mount CD/DVD-Drive – Host atau ISO. Pilih host dan tentukan PATH CD-ROm anda atau ISO dan tentukan path dimana iso backtrack anda ditempatkan.
[5] Audio bisa enable atau disable sesuai keinginan anda. enable diceklis dan pilih host audio driver – windows direct sound.
[6] Pada USB ceklis enable USB controller dan USB 2.0 EHCI Controller lalu add USB filter. disini anda bisa memasukkan USB filter baru atau USB yang telah dijalankan windowsXP anda saat ini.
[7] Pada rempte Display berfungsi untuk membuat jaringan virtual.
[8] Klik OK .
[9] Klik Start untuk memulai BackTrack Virtual.

Ketika backtrack 4 berjalan pada first boot pilih backtrack VESA Mode karena kemampuan memory video virtual ini sangat terbatas. ketika backtrack4 selesai loading, tancapkan USB wireless ke port USB, WindowsXP akan mendeteksinya sebagai Virtual BOX usb, install the software automatically.

pada shell Backtrack yang berjalab di Virtual Box, ketik:

untuk mendeteksi seluruh perangkat berbasis USB. Dan sesuai rekomendasi USB wifi TP-LINK dengan chipset Ralink penulis terdeteksi dengan baik.

Tahap Uji Penetrasi
Untuk langkah selanjutnya setelah USB wifi terdeteksi adalah sesuai selera anda. Sebagai contoh kami melakukan scanning wifi disekitar lingkungan kami dengan Kismet.

Dengan uji coba diatas dapat disimpulkan kita dapat melakukan penetrasi keamanan dengan hardware yang terbatas, tak perlu gonta-ganti OS, dan lebih mudah.

A weird thing happened the other day, that made the world seem small and altogether too eerily referential. I was visiting with Hyperbolic Obsessive while she closed up the coffee shop she worked for, and she was showing me cool things she’d seen on the internet. (Is there any other pastime anymore?)

She mentioned a blog post she had seen, full of lovely strange ghostly enormous outdoor wall paintings (I don’t want to demean them by calling them graffiti) done by an artist called SAM3, who does the kind of work I really like–he thinks big, simple, and weird. I encourage you to check out his web site or said blog post and see them, because they’re great. (If you have an extra $150 you just don’t know what to do with, I’d be happy to help you with that problem by buying myself one of his prints.)

But as I was browsing this blog post, looking at SAM3’s work, the overall aesthetic seemed to be brushing up against some familiar pathways in my brain. I said to my favorite erstwhile barista, “You know, there are paintings like this all over Latin America; I’ve seen a couple very much like this, in fact.”

Then I started to suspect the photos were, in fact, of Latin American walls.

Then I started to suspect that I had actually walked past SAM3 on the sidewalk.

I saw this on the blog we were looking at:

That’s SAM3! In the middle of a painting! Yup. 8 months ago, the fiance (then boyfriend) and I were walking back to our hostel in Buenos Aires, after hanging out in Plaza Defensa drinking beer and watching a tango show, and I came across this guy in the middle of doing a wall painting. It looked like half-tree, half-human, and I thought that when it was finished, it would be really cool.

I never thought I would actually see it finished. Cameras, blogs, and kismet made that happen.

وَقَد مَكَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبلِهِم فَلِلَّهِ ٱلمَكرُ جَمِيعًا‌ يَعلَمُ مَا تَكسِبُ كُلُّ نَفسٍ وَسَيَعلَمُ ٱلكُفَّـرُ لِمَن عُقبَى ٱلدَّارِ (٤٢)

Those before them did (also) devise plots; but in all things the master planning is Allah’s. He knoweth the doings of every soul: and soon will the Unbelievers know who gets home in the End. (42)

People of the past did trickery with their messengers, but Allah is the master planner.

Allah knows what each soul has earned, we are not aware of the details of what we have done and what weight do they carry. But Allah Subhnawaata’ala knows the details of each persons efforts. The kuffar will know who will have a good end.

DUA AND TAQDEER

Dua of the Sahaba:

The Sahaba used to worry about their taqdeer and did not know where they were going to end, but knew without a doubt of the power of Allah Subhanawataala and used to make this dua:

“O Allah if you have written our name in the losers then please erase it from that list and place it in the people who are the winners in those with a happy end (Khush Kismet)) and if you have written our name in the winners then keep us steadfast worthy of our place on that list.”

Umar RA has been reported to cry while making this dua, in his tawaf around the Kaaba:

“O Allah, If you have written loss (badbakht) and sin for me, then please erase it because you can erase what you want and keep whatsoever you want. You have the Loh e Mahfooz , please change my badbakhti to saadat “

One should never give up hope in Allahs power.

Thus the message to us from Allah Subhanawataala is that every thing is with Allah so the basis of this is to submit to his power and oneness in our heart and with our actions all the time, this includes active tawheed as well as wijdani tawheed.

Ashok Kumar – 13th October

Ashok Kumar is one of the most celebrated Indian actors of all time. He is born on October 13, 1911 in Bengal Presidency, British India which is today’s Kolkata. He has changed the outlook of modern film acting. When majority of his counterparts still prevailed in theatrical style of acting, Ashok Kumar went one step ahead to give more realistic acting style. His two brothers Kishore and Anoop Kumar also acted in films. His younger brother Kishore Kumar was one of the most famous playback singers in Indian Film Industry. The three brothers acted in a series of comedy based movies together like, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Badhti K Naam Daari and Chalti Ka Naam Zindagi. Ashok Kumar stopped celebrating his birthday after his youngest brother Kishore Kumar died on that date in 1987. He has acted in many socially committed films like, Achhut Kanya, Izzat, Savitri and Nirmala against famous actress Devika Rani. Main Ban Ka Panchhi is one of his famous movies. He also proved his acting skills in Negative roles as well. Kismet in which he acted as a villain was the highest grossing film in India at the time of its release. His others famous movies are, Parineeta, Bahu Bagum, Ek Hi Raastha, Aarti etc.

He was also a practitioner of Homeopathy and a great painter in private life.

Kismet – это консольная программа для работы с беспроводной сетью 802.11 или проще говоря WiFi. Разработчики называют ее сниффером сетей и детектором вторжений. С ее помощью можно, к примеру найти скрытые сети или проверить уровень безопасности вашей собственной.

Установка Kismet

Наиболее удобно установить программу через терминал, со сборкой исходных кодов. В репозиториях версии обновляются с значительной задержкой, а исходники свежей версии всегда доступны на сайте разработчика. Последняя версия программы всегда доступна здесь: http://www.kismetwireless.net/download.shtml

Итак, поехали. Для начала скачаем архив с исходным кодом.

wget http://www.kismetwireless.net/code/kismet-2009-06-R1.tar.gz

Комманда wget скачает GZip-архив в вашу домашнюю папку. После чего архив необходимо распаковать.

tar -xvf kismet-2009-06-R1.tar.gz

Все файлы теперь находятся в папке kismet-2009-06-R1. Можно приступать к компилированию и установке. Запускаем скрипт configure.so, который подготовит файлы к сборке, в соответствии с системными параметрами вашего компьютера. cd kismet-2009-06-R1 ./configure

Будьте внимательны к отчету о настройке. В процессе могут выявиться неустановленные пакеты, которые придется найти и установить. К примеру, у меня требовались libncurses или libcurses:

Устанавливаются они командой

sudo apt-get install libncurses5-dev

Также мне не хватало libstdc++5, который можно скачать в виде debian пакета и поддержки C++ компилятором gcc (gcc-c++). Дополнения к GCC устанавливаются командой

sudo apt-get install build-essential

По завершении настройки программу необходимо скомпилировать и установить.

sudo make sudo make install

Kismet установлен.

Настройка Kismet.

Прежде чем использовать Kismet необходимо установить несколько параметров в конфигурационном файле /etc/kismet/kismet.conf. Откройте его любым редактором, например gedit или vim.

sudo vim /etc/kismet/kismet.conf

В списке параметров есть два, которые нужно установить обязательно это suiduser и source. Значение suiduser должно быть именем пользователя Linux, в моем случае bashtannik. А вот с source придется немного потрахаться. Именно этот момент заставляет штудировать Google, читать документации, и рвать волосы. Потому что именно настройка уникальна для каждой конфигурации компьютера. Обилие сетевых карточек и драйверов совсем не делает этот процесс легче.

Через запятую необходимо указать три параметра: тип источника, интерфейс доступа и имя, которое особой роли не играет. Подробнее про источники, то бишь сетевые карты и драйвера, можно почитать в документации к Kismet.

Первый параметр это название модуля, используемого сетевой картой. Узнать его можно с помощью программы lsmod, показывающей список модулей, используемых ядром. После ее выполнения вы увидите примерно следующее:

Результат разделен на 3 столбика: имя модуля, размер и каким устройством он используется. В моем случае, wifi карта RTL8187 использует 2 модуля: eeprom_93cx6 и mac80211. Не трудно догадаться, что mac80211 и есть название того, что мы ищем. Это подтверждает и Google, в случае сомнений. Mac80211 – это драйвер устройства WiFi.

Далее нам необходимо указать интерфейс доступа к устройству. Список сетевых интерфейсов можно получить с помощью утилиты iwconfig, вызвав ее без параметров. Результатом будет примерно следующее:

Как видно, сетевая карта висит на интерфейсе wlan0. Соответственно, параметр source должен иметь вид

source=mac80211,wlan0,kismet

где kismet – произвольно выбранное имя. Таким образом программа сконфигурирована и готова к работе.

Запуск.

Прежде чем начать использовать Kismet нужно перевести сетевую карту в режим монитора. Делается это с помощью iwconfig:

sudo iwconfig wlan0 mode moditor

где wlan0 – имя сетевого интерфейса, используемого Kismet и полученного нами ранее. Сразу все может не заработать. Ошибка

SET failed on device wlan0 ; Device or resource busy.

возникает скорее всего из-за того, что WiFi-карта используется непосредственно операционной системой. Лечится это отключением беспроводной сети из меню Gnome.

Система Kismet состоит из двух частей: сервера и клиента. Сервер используется для сбора пакетов, а клиент предоставляет GUI-интерфейс для удобного управления сервером. Запускается всё одновременно командой kismet. Сервер требует определенных привилегий суперпользователя, поэтому запускать его нужно из-под root-учетной записи. Более подробно вопрос безопасности рассматривается в документации, в разделе Suidroot & Security. Нужно подойти к этому моменту серьезно, если вы собираетесь использовать Kismet не в ознакомительных целях, а на практике.

sudo kismet

После запуска клиента программа спросит, запускать ли новый экземпляр сервера. Поскольку отдельно сервер мы нигде не запускали, ответим положительно и дождемся инициализации.

Эти параметры отвечают за конфигурацию сервера, а по сути позволяют включить протоколирование. Все файлы логов сохраняются по умолчанию в вашей домашней папке, если вы не находились в другой директории в момент запуска. Откажитесь от просмотра окна консоли и продолжите.

Программа требует указать сетевой интерфейс, служащий источником пакетов.

Введите в поле Intf название вашего интерфейса, здесь wlan0. Можно указать дополнительные параметры, например указать на необходимость открывать интерфейс заново, в случае возникновения ошибки. Подробнее описано в документации, в разделе Capture sources.

Если вы всё сделали правильно и в зоне доступа есть WiFi сеть, то результатом станут бегущие пакеты:

Использование Kismet.

Пожалуй, сбор пакетов, для дальнейшего взлома WEP/WPA ключей – самая популярная цель использования программы. Однако, возможности Kismet намного шире. На ее основе можно построить сложную систему мониторинга WiFi точек, скажем в корпоративной сети. Производить анализ загруженности того или иного сегмента. В умелых руках Kismet становится мощным инструментом администрирования. С помощью GPS программа может позиционировать WiFi-элементы, указывать расстояния до них.

В общем, не стоит представлять эту программу только как инструмент “для взлома WiFi”.

Σοκολατένιο kismet

Έχουν περάσει μέρες από τότε που περιέγραφα σε φίλο, τι σημαίνει για μένα να γράφω: «To να γράφεις είναι σαν τις σοκολάτες: “πρώτη μου αγάπη και παντοτινή” και “το πιο γλυκό κομμάτι της ζωής”». Που να φανταστώ ότι μετά από κάποιες μέρες μια σοκολάτα θα με προκαλέσει να αποδείξω την αγάπη μου προς την γραφή. Όχι οποιαδήποτε σοκολάτα. Η σοκολάτα, που ήθελε το kismet να συντροφεύει τις όμορφες στιγμές, που θα διηγούμαι σαν παραμυθία στα παιδιά, ανίψια και εγγόνια μου. Για να τις θυμάμαι, γιατί δεν ξέρουμε πως θα λειτουργεί το δόλιο το μυαλό μου σε λίγα χρόνια, τις γράφω εις τούτον εδώ το μπλόγκιον. Τις πιο όμορφες ιστορίες άλλωστε, τις γράφει η ίδια η ζωή. Και αν είναι ιστορίες αγάπης μας θυμίζουν ότι δεν είναι ευφάνταστα σενάρια παλιού κινηματογράφου αλλά ότι συμβαίνουν τριγύρω μας καθημερινά. Αρκεί να δώσουμε την σημασία που τους αρμόζει. Πως αλλιώς, αφού αγαπιούνται οι άνθρωποι.

Η σοκολάτα που με προκαλεί, όπως καταλάβατε από την παραπάνω εικόνα, είναι η Lacta. Σε συνεργασία με την OgilvyOne και τον Γιώργο Καπουτζίδη λανσάρεται ο η νέα interactive καμπάνια «Love in Action» της σοκολάτας. Επειδή είμαι καρά- ψωνάρα για τα τρυφερά κείμενα μου, κατέθεσα και εγώ μια ιστορία αγάπης στον διαγωνισμό του Love in Action. Όσοι ψαχουλέψετε στο αρχείο του μπλογκιού θα βρείτε ιστοριούλες στην κατηγορία Life happening (κάργα αυτοδιαφήμιση λέμε). Σας καλώ να μαντέψετε ποια (έτσι για χαβαλέ). Έστειλα μια 100% πραγματική ιστορία. Να ξέρετε ότι οι πλειοψηφία των ρομαντικών κειμένων έχουν εμπνευστεί από έναν καλό φίλο (μη πάει το πονηρό μυαλό σας αλλού, φίλος είναι ο άνθρωπος) . Του έταξα ότι θα τον κάνω βιβλίο, λέτε να πειράζει που κάνω μια προσπάθεια να τον κάνω μικρή ταινία;

Επ, εσύ, αόρατε, ξέρω ότι θα χαμογελάσεις μόλις δεις αυτό το κείμενο, όπως χαμογέλασα όταν κατέθεσα την ιστορία. Και ίσως τα χαμόγελα που δεν βλέπω και θα ήθελα κάποτε να δω είναι το πιο όμορφο κομμάτι τις διαδικασίας αυτής, στο να γράφω.

Στα παιδιά της OgilvyOne και τον Γιώργο Καπουτζίδη εύχομαι να διασκεδάσουν την διαδικασία της καμπάνιας όσο περισσότερο γίνεται.
