Running, Returning – Akron/Family

La o lună de la inaugurarea apelului de urgenţă pentru tinerii cu tendinţe autodistructive, telefonul sună necontenit. După „epidemia” de sinucideri care a lovit recent tineretul, linia telefonică destinată copiilor şi adolescenţilor cu tendinţe suicidale a fost luată cu asalt.

Centrul de prevenire a tentativelor de suicid la copii şi adolescenţi a fost inaugurat în urmă cu aproape o lună şi se află în curtea Spitalului Alexandru Obregia, din Bucureşti.

Până când încep să circule tramvaiele

„Centrul de prevenire a tentativelor de suicid” este totuşi un termen prea bombastic.

În realitate avem de-a face cu o cameră într-o clădire cu un singur nivel, cu pereţi scorojiţi şi ţiglă veche. Înăuntru – două mese, două scaune, două telefoane şi un radio în surdină, setat pe un post cu muzică veche şi tristă. Sunt 24 de dispeceri care se perindă pe la centru. Toţi sunt voluntari, iar fiecare acoperă între patru şi opt ore pe săptămână.

La tura de noapte rămân câte două persoane. Nu pentru că riscul de sinucideri ar fi mai mare noaptea, ci pentru că persoana care acoperă intervalul 22.00-2.00 nu are cu ce pleca acasă, aşa că rămâne până la 5.00, când încep să circule tramvaiele.

Centrul, care trebuie să trăiască un an cu 20.000 de euro (sumă asigurată de Primăria Bucureşti), nu are bani să deconteze câte un bon de taxi în fiecare noapte.

Graficul cu fapte bune

E dimineaţă, iar prin curtea spitalului „Alexandru Obregia” se aud cântecele bolnavilor, cărora convenţional li se spune „nebuni”, treziţi din nopţile liniştite cu gust de Xanax.

„Bună ziua, suntem Tel Verde, cu ce vă putem ajuta?” – este mesajul de întâmpinare pentru sinucigaşii cu vârste fragede. Am dat peste doamna Gicuţa în timpul unei discuţii cu un puşti deprimat din cauza relaţiei tensionate cu părinţii.

Doamna Gicuţa este asistentă la un spital din Bucureşti. Pentru ea, lucrurile sunt clare: există alb şi negru, Dumnezeu şi Satana. Graniţa dintre bine şi rău e dreaptă ca graniţa dintre America şi Canada. Are convingerea că tensiunile familiale se topesc în faţa unor grafice precum cele din sondajele CURS.

„Uite ce te sfătuiesc eu: să faci un grafic cu faptele bune şi cu faptele rele. Le arăţi părinţilor şi spui: «Mami, uite câte fapte bune am făcut!». Fă-le un grafic şi o să vezi că n-or să te mai certe!»”.

Telefonul sună aproape necontenit. Urmează un tânăr prăbuşit în dragostea pierdută pentru o fată. El, mai impulsiv, a mai „atins-o” din când în când. Acum regretă şi spune că nu poate să mai trăiască fără ea. „Nu e chiar atât de grav, asta e viaţa. Tu ai rănit-o fizic, ea te-a rănit sentimental. Ai grijă să nu ajungi la gânduri mai rele!”, avertizează doamna Gicuţa.

Cele mai multe apeluri vin însă de la copii cu note mici la şcoala. Drama puştiului din Târgu-Jiu care s-a aruncat de pe bloc pentru că avea rezultate slabe la matematică a creat o legătură între ştiinţa cifrelor şi sinucidere.

Pesemne, puştii au început să creadă că viitorul celor cu note mici la matematică este pe marginea blocului. Doamna Flori, care tocmai a trecut peste tura de noapte, e de o duritate ieşită din comun cu cei care suspină din dragoste rănită. „Ăstora care sună pentru că au fost părăsiţi de iubite le spun să pună mâna pe carte şi să lase prostiile. Vor avea ei timp şi de îndrăgostit”.

Impresia că te „traduce” nevasta

Numărul de telefon pentru prevenirea tentativelor de suicid este destinat copiilor şi adolescenţilor, dar la el apelează şi adulţii. „O femeie de etnie rromă spunea că vrea să-şi pună capăt zilelor pentru că şi-a înşelat bărbatul şi va fi chemată în stabor, unde i se vor tăia urechile”, ne povesteşte doamna Flori.

Un „om de afaceri” mărturiseşte: „Am o valiză de datorii şi am impresia că mă «traduce» nevasta. Sunt disperat”. „Sună tot felul de oameni. Ne întreabă cu cine votăm, sună să ceară credite pentru nevoi personale. E o agitaţie perpetuă”, spune Elena Brănaru, coordonatoarea programului.

Buzăul, judeţul celor care nu renunţă

Direcţia Generală de Asistenţă Socială a realizat anul trecut un studiu pentru a vedea care este gradul de risc suicidal la copiii şi adolescenţii din România.

Cifrele sunt îngrijorătoare: 15.8 % dintre cei 2.662 de elevi chestionaţi au răspuns că s-au gândit măcar o dată în viaţă să se sinucidă, iar 5,6% chiar au încercat să termine cu viaţa. Peste 37% dintre elevi spun că au prieteni care se gândesc să se sinucidă.

Din totalul morţilor violente înregistrate anul trecut în România, 23,56 % au survenit prin sinucidere. Procentul este aproape la fel de mare ca în cazul deceselor în accidente rutiere. 2.802 persoane s-au sinucis în România în 2008, cu 97 mai multe decât în 2007.

Metoda cea mai la îndemână românilor pentru a-şi pune capăt zilelor este spânzurarea (75% din cazuri). Harghita şi Covasna sunt judeţele cu cele mai multe sinucideri la 100.000 de locuitori (28,8, respectiv 24,9), la polul opus fiind judeţul Buzău, cu 7,8 sinucideri la 100.000 de locuitori.

Statisticile pentru 2009 nu au fost definitivate, dar reprezentanţii Institutului de Medicină Legală estimează că, din cauza prăbuşirii economice, anul 2009 ar putea depăşi recordul de sinucideri în România, 3.967, înregistrate în 2000.

Serie neagră printre tineri

România a fost marcată în ultima vreme de cazurile unor copii şi adolescenţi care şi-au pus capăt vieţii. În zona împădurită de pe Dealul Melcilor din Braşov a fost găsit joi cadavrul unui adolecent. Un elev de 14 ani care s-a spânzurat. Furase telefonul mobil al unei colege, iar părinţii fetei îl ameninţau cu puşcăria. Elevul vindea ziare pentru a-şi întreţine cei nouă fraţi.

În urmă cu două săptămâni, tot la Târgu-Jiu, elevul Remus dintr-a cincea a fost găsit mort pe caldarâmul din faţa unui bloc-turn. Remus avea 11 ani şi note mici la matematică. Grigore Vlădoiu, profesorul, spune că Remus nu ştia nici tabla înmulţirii. Şi că nu se simte vinovat.

150 de pastile pentru diabet

Vasilica, fiica lui Constantin Creţan, liderul Ligii „Miron Cozma” s-a sinucis pe 19 mai, după ce a luat un 7 la teza de limba română. A înghiţit 150 de pastile pentru diabet. Vasilica avea doar 13 ani şi a murit în Spitalul Judeţean Târgu-Jiu. Constantin Creţan a făcut închisoare pentru implicarea în mineriada din 1999.

În 2007, Bogdan Costache, elev în clasa a XII-a, s-a aruncat de la etajul 10 al unui bloc din Bucureşti. Lui Bogdan i se spunea Ralph. Fusese părăsit de Corina Vasile, profesoara de limba română. „Cazul Ralph-Corina” s-a sfârşit mediatic în garsoniera OTV. Alexandru Popovici a fost înmormânat acum două zile. Slujba a avut loc în faţa bisericii din satul Sterpoaia, judeţul Gorj.

Alexandru avea 19 ani şi se sinucisese din dragoste pentru Ramona Mischie, profesoara de română. După câteva tentative de sinucidere ratate, Alex a ales să moară aşa: a pulverizat un spray insecticid într-o pungă pe care şi-a pus-o pe cap şi a strâns-o cu cureaua.

Familia lui Alexandru Popovici a descoperit în calculatorul acestuia un mesaj în care băiatul îşi motiva decizia: „Am fost dezamăgit de toate persoanele. Fiecare m-a dezamăgit în felul ei… dar numai dezamăgirea din partea unei singure persoane nu am reuşit să o pot depăşi… Sper că nu am lăsat în urmă nicio persoană care să fie suparată pe mine. Am încercat să-i mulţumesc pe toţi în ultima vreme…ca să mă simt eu mai bine…

Aceasta a fost prima şi ultima dată când am iubit.

E o femeie frumoasă, complicată şi fascinantă care locuieşte în inima şi sufletul meu. Gata …închei aici. Aveţi grijă de voi. Te iubesc… de parcă ar urma să ne stingem amândoi în aceeaşi zi….. Adio… “

„În curând o să am şi eu nevoie de consiliere”

Între timp, la Centru, orele trec, dispecerii se schimbă, iar copiii cu chef de glume la telefon încep să se retragă în camerele lor, o dată cu întoarcerea părinţilor de la muncă. Maria, o tânără masterandă la Facultatea de Asistenţă Socială, îşi aruncă în fugă geanta şi eşarfa de la gât apoi sare să prindă primul telefon. E un bărbat văduv, a cărui unică fiică a plecat de acasă cu un copil al străzii care se droghează. Stau amândoi în Herăstrău şi înnoptează numai ei ştiu pe unde. „A mai fugit o dată de acasă, dar s-a întors. Două zile a stat, apoi a plecat din nou”.

Omul ar vrea să ştie ce cuvinte să spună pentru a o face pe copilă să rămână alături de el. Dar nimeni nu găseşte cuvintele astea. Bărbatul plânge la telefon, Maria îşi prinde tâmplele cu mâna, într-un gest al dezertării. „Ce aş putea să-i spun unui astfel de om?”.

Maria are doar 23 de ani. Notează cu pixul, pe un caiet studenţesc, fiecare discuţie. Aşa funcţionează programul ăsta, cu rapoarte scrise pe caiete studenţeşti. Sunt minute de linişte în care n-ai altceva de făcut decât să te gândeşti.

Moartea şi toţi prietenii ei

În timpul ăsta, pe o stradă dintr-un oraş de provincie, o minoră formează pe telefonul mobil numărul 0800080100, în timp ce parcurge distanţa dintre şcoală şi casă. Casa ei nu e totuşi acasă. Stă la o mătuşă, de când ambii părinţi au murit într-un accident. Copila spune răspicat că vrea să termine cu viaţa: „Îmi e foarte dor de ai mei”.

Repetă fraza asta o dată, de două ori, de trei. Ascultând-o, Maria respiră prelung. Telefoniştii de la Centrul de prevenire a tentativelor de suicid nu au voie să ofteze.„Sunt sigură ca ai tăi, de acolo, de Sus, nu vor să faci asta. De fiecare dată când te încearcă gândurile astea, poţi să mă suni”, îi spune. Vocea copilei „din telefon” are ceva gutural, necopilăresc. Spune „da, aşa am să fac”, apoi mulţumeşte politicos şi închide.

Urmează câteva bip-uri şi o şaradă a unui bărbat plictisit: „Bună, sunt pe bloc şi vreau să mă arunc, ce zici?”. Apoi se aude un debuşeu isteric de râs. Maria se descarcă: „În curând o să am şi eu nevoie de consiliere”. Apoi scrie pe caietul studenţesc: „Ora 16.30: bună, sunt pe bloc şi vreau să mă arunc, ce zici?”, după care pune între două paranteze rotunde cuvântul „glumă”.

Suicidul pe unde scurte

Până să ajungă la centrul pentru prevenirea suicidului, copiii şi adolescenţii aveau o singură opţiune pentru a-şi polemiza tristeţea: emisiunea French Kiss, de la postul de radio Kiss FM. Dan Finţescu, Andreea Andrei şi Oana Radu ţin în viaţă, de mai bine de un an, emisiunea nocturnă care încearcă să pună o virgulă acolo unde alţii ar vrea să pună punct.

La radio sună şi copii care au încheiat o relaţie pentru că el i-a pus ei piedică în pauza mare, dar şi tineri care înghit pastile cu pumnul în timp ce-şi povestesc dramele. În urmă cu un an, o tânără din judeţul Cluj a încercat să-şi ia viaţa în direct.

„Lua pastile în timp ce vorbea cu noi. Suferise o decepţie în dragoste. A fost «horror». Am chemat salvarea şi am rugat-o pe fată să nu închidă telefonul. Am auzit cum cei de la salvare au intrat peste ea în casă. A fost până la urmă un caz fericit pentru că a scăpat cu viaţă. Am mai vorbit cu ea de atunci”, spune Andreea, vocea caldă a emisiunii, vocea pentru care chiar merită să trăieşti. Oana este colerică şi rezolvă cu tact, ca o dirigintă, cazurile benigne ale adolescenţei.

„Emisiunea e uneori tragi-comică, precum viaţa”, spune ea. Dan este omul care echilibrează şi dă verdictele: „Am avut un tânăr care şi-a petrecut sevrajul împreună cu noi. Când a sunat prima dată ne-a spus: «Am luat ultimele două bile (n.r. – doze de heroină) din viaţa mea. Pe una mi-o injectez acum iar pe cealaltă o arunc pe fereastră».

Am vorbit zile la rând cu el, timp în care a trecut prin toate fazele alea oribile de după renunţarea la droguri. Acum e mai bine şi s-a întors la lucru. E taximetrist”.

Just about a week ago there was a massive hype about the new call of duty modern war fare 2 (mw2). i would call my self a pretty big gamer and i was pretty hyped about it but i couldnt realy afford it to be honest (PS3 rules btw fuck xbox 360 and fuck bill gates lol ) But I was probably more hyped for back of the q at russian bar with P money and blacks. I have seen blacks and p money live at frisco’s eyes on you launch party at the old blue last sponsored by vice and Boxfresh a few months back.I already knew about p money but i didn’t really know a lot about blacks. It was the first time ive ever heard them live and they killed the set so that’s when I got into blacks. I got to the russian bar quite early. i GOT I.D’D the bouncer was like have you got any I.D but I was like “no but I’m 18″ (LOL). MY mate NIYI spoke to the bouncer and said
(NIYI) : He’s 18
(Bouncer) : Are you the dad ?
(NIYI) : I know his mum !
(Bouncer) : Are you his dad ?
(NIYI) : YEAH I AM ! Cant you see the resemblance , Look at our hats!

Matty the shop keeper done a sick set. Every tune he played was a BANGER. THE DJ after him was playing alot of good funky house and was doing quite enetertaining set. so me and my friends decided to go to the macbeth. we was there for a while. We were running late so i was anxiously running back to the Russian to see P money and blacks set.

I got back in time and i think they came on a bit late so i was pretty relieved I didn’t miss any thing even though i was like 5 minutes late. when i got back to the venue was quite full and quite a few grime heads were there aswell. I saw P money before his set wearing a og’z t shirt ( og’z is his crew which blacks is in also ) So I said hi to him and blagged a interview with him after his set. I really couldn’t wait for the set to start. spyro was banging out pure grime classics which a true grime head would appreciate and Skank it out and playing such classics such as jammer murkle man , Ghetto top 3 selected , Boyy better know duppy and Chipmunk who are you. so while i was writing away a few people came up to me and wa slike “why are you writing lyircs” and saying “dont write my bars in a rave are u serious”?. I did get the impression and also got alot of screw faces with some of the crowd probably them thinking what is this stupid “camden boy” thinking he’s cool going to a grime night with a boy better know t shirt, But like if they knew who I was they would be completely wrong because as you know I’m really passionate about the grime scene and that im a tottenham boy also were the biggest grime crew orginated from (merdian crew). Just before the set,This so called “rude boy” came up to me and was like “why are staring at me?” I said mate “im not staring at you !” im used to this shit anyway. so finally p money and blacks came on and jumped on to the mic straight away and got down to business as well and the set was actually realy sick and realy hyped and spyro on teh decks was just the icing on the cake. and a surprise guest little dee made a appearance but only sprayed a few bars p money said his infamous phrase “what did he say! ?”

P MONEY’S MOST WELL KNOWN TRACK : WHAT DID HE SAY ?

p money and blacks were actually dominating the set and you could tell they were putting 100% effort and it really showed .There were a few random guys just jumping on mic and were literallly taking the show lol. The set and the instrumentals reminded me of the Logan sama, P money and blacks kiss fm set they done a few months ago.The HIGHLIGHT of the night was when spyro put the space ship riddim.IT probably got one of the best crowd responses that night. basically the space ship riddim is probably one of the best grime instrumentals ever. I realy dont think anyone would obeject. The most notable mc’s that have made tracks over this beat are President T, Tempa T, JME, Skepta, Jammer, and NU brand flex.

The energy absorbing set i caught up with p money and walked out side the venue and got caught up in the rain and p money said to me “can u write and walk ? ” I responded saying yes. So we were walking away from the venue and the rain was just demolishing all of my notes so I asked p money a few questions.

I I think skepta  made a realy good decision  because no mc’s were putting up a front and when skepta said that he made people step up the level but now

After that un suspecting statement p money he entered a pretty fly Volkswagen with blacks already in the car and little dee driving. When p money got in the car drived away promptly into the the midnight rain. I realy enjoyed that set and it wont be forgotton. You herd it from MR.T REMIX’S blog first that p money said he’s the king of grime. I think there was alot of truth what he said with that statement and i think he could be right. leave a comment and give me your views. p.s im so pissed off i didnt interview blacks lol

Oficial, ma dau batuta. Nu mai suport “Mara”. Mai am 100 de pagini si imi vine sa arunc cartea aia cat colo. E cea mai ingrozitoare carte pe care am citit-o vreodata. Ma scoate din sarite faptul ca vorbeste numai prostii si nu se concentreaza aproape deloc pe subiect. Astept de vreo 50 de pagini sa plece odata Persida la Viena, nu se intampla. Pai cand, Doamne iarta-ma? Dar deh, trebuia sa-si scoata si Slavici numarul de pagini, nu?

Deci gata, nu o mai citesc. Am incercat sa citesc pe sarite, nu se face conexiunea. Ei, imi pare rau. Am citit rezumatul ultimelor capitole pe net, asa ca stiu cam ce se intampla. “Morometii” am auzit ca e si mai oribila decat “Mara”.

Si apropo de “decat”. In fiecare dimineata aud la Kiss Fm, “decat la Kiss Fm”. Pai cum sa zici asa? Cum sa folosesti “decat” in loc de “doar”? Mi-a zis matusa mea ca ar zice asa doar ca sa ii imite pe incultii aia care folosesc “decat” in acest mod. Pai nu-i mai imitati! Apareti si mai prosti decat ei! Fereasca Domnul Dumnezeu, ce a ajuns si lumea asta?!

Dacă nu ştiţi ce e City Quest România puteţi afla aici.

Acum că v-aţi informat, am să vă povestec cum a fost pentru noi, echipa Prime. Adică eu, Ale, Dia, Bobo şi Luci. Ne-am întâlnit la cinci jumătate, undeva în zona sensului giratoriu din Mărăşti şi am pornit spre Iuliu Small aka Iulius Mall, punctul de pornire. Am completat rapid formularele, devenind oficial echipa Prime, după care am avut timp berechet să ne bucurăm de promoţiile de iarnă de la Starbucks. La 7 fix am primit un mesaj de confirmare, primul quest şi am început să alergăm spre maşină. Mă întreb ce a gândit lumea din faţa mall-ului când 25 de indivizi au început să alerge.

Tema ediţiei -ediţie dedicată de altfel organizaţiilor- a fost Facultate de balet. Primul quest a fost atât de simplu, încât l-am rezolvat fără să ezităm, aşa că am pornit în rezolvarea celui de-al doilea task cu un avantaj de vreo 40 de minute.

În fiecare punct trebuia să ne aştepte câte unul dintre organizatori şi asta a dus la mai multe  întâmplări amuzante= am oprit un tip pe stradă, iar discuţia cu el a fost ceva de genul:

Noi: Eşti de la City Quest?

El: Poftim?

Noi: Mulţumim! La revedere!

Şi l-am lăsat pe săracul om fără să îi dăm nici o explicaţie. Am mai abordat un tip la un moment dat. Era în zona în care cătam noi. Stătea pe o bordură, lângă ceva bicleta, motocileta, skate nu mai ştiu ce. Nu era nici el the one, dar am râs pentru că nu am fost singurii care l-au întrebat.  La una din probe am primit o casetă, care urma să ne furnizeze indiciul cu care tebuia rezolvat questul. Maşina cu care eram nu avea şi casetofon, aşa că am oprit langă MC-ul din centru şi am rugat un taximetrist să ne lase să ascultăm mesajul. S-a uitat cam câş la noi nenea cu pricina, dar până la urmă părea chiar încântat că ne dă o mână de ajutor.  Atât de încântat că am ascultat de 3 ori mesajul de pe ea, iar ceilalţi taximetrişti se uitau la noi, blestemând cd playerele din dotare. Sau cel puţin asta îmi place să cred. Hahaha. Pe lângă asta, i-am terorizat pe Cezara, Cioben, Smara şi Alin cu telefoane. Au fost Google earth-ul nostru

A fost super fain. Am parcus în total peste 70 de km, am umblat prin aproape tot Clujul, ne-am pus minţiile la contribuţie şi ne-am distrat. Pe drum ne-am pierdut avantajul de timp, aşa că am luat locul 3. But it really was fun şi ne gândim serios să participăm şi la ediţii viitoare.

What a great movie. I can’t think of a better film that captures everything I love about life. That’s an overstatement, but if you’ve seen this flick, you know what I’m talking about. It just makes you feel good, and not in a cop-out, blockbuster sort of way. It was made well with one of Hollywood’s few “white knights” (ahem, Tom Hanks).

My favorite scene? In the studio towards the end, when Guy jams with Del Paxton (I hope I’m not ruining it, but if you, Constant Reader, haven’t seen this movie…well, you probably wouldn’t be reading this little blog because the universe where you live that doesn’t include That Thing You Do! is a universe where I do not and will not exist). That scene helped shape my desire to create music, to contribute something creative and artistic to this world even if only a few people heard it.

Guy loved music. That’s why he was the main character. The good guy. The one that could do no wrong. Jimmy, as Mr. White (Tom Hanks) said, was the talent. He didn’t appreciate music as much as Guy, because he had that natural ability to write a great song and yeah, it went to his head. Who wouldn’t want to be engaged to a gal like Liv Tyler, or at least a gal that was played by Liv Tyler? Seriously. Todd Rundgren was her legal guardian for Something/Anything?’s sake!

I can’t say that any aspect of this film is bad. The theme song, written by the great Mike Viola (who produced Mandy Moore’s Amanda Leigh) and Adam Schlesinger (of Fountains of Wayne fame), is a course in classic pop songwriting. Never mind Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” “That Thing You Do!” has stood the test of time.

Side Note: By the way, do you know how many times we listened to “My Heart Will Go On” in Spanish in 5th grade? I don’t know! I don’t remember! Which means that it was more than once. That was back when I was living and breathing pop music on the radio. Kiss FM (106.1 ya’ll), Hot 100 (100.3, the more “urban” Kiss FM), you know what I’m talking about, Southlake, TX. I distinctly remember that Kiss FM was playing an alternate version of “My Heart Will Go On” with actual quotes from Titanic. The same thing happened with Bruce Springsteen’s “Secret Garden” when Jerry McGuire came out. And people ate it up! I’m making an assumption here, because I ate it up and I heard it all the time.

I think my first experiences with certain emotions came from Pop radio. Heartache (is that even an emotion?) was one of them. My Mom was driving me to hockey practice. What did my heart ache about? I don’t know. But “Genie in a Bottle” was making me long for someone. It wasn’t even someone. It was just some entity, some idea. This feeling of being caught up in an interaction with a girl that went beyond the scope of cootie resistance.

Pop music in the late 1990s had created this void inside me. The music was telling me “you have to find a girl and love on her and get her to love on you…and by love on, we mean awkwardly slow dance with her at the next middle school extracurricular socializing event.” All the while, I’m thinking “Okay, just as soon as I get frosted tips, start shopping at Structure, and try out for one of the four football teams.” So Pop music is the leading cause to coupling. Interesting.

Another emotion I first felt through Pop radio was Aggression. I think it came when “Forgot About Dre” hit the airwaves. It was 7th grade. And for some reason, the song resonated with me. It wasn’t about feeling a connection with the subject matter then. Did I have any idea what it felt like to be bombarded by younger rappers trying to upstage and replace me? No. It was more about feeling cool. My parents let me get the edited version of Chronic 2001 at Wal-Mart. I don’t know why. Maybe I made a fuss? Maybe they weren’t aware of the album’s content? What I do know is that I wanted to have sex/have slightly-more-than-platonic relations with as many attractive girls as possible at that age. And by knowing a song that Eminem rapped on, I’d be in the right direction.

Side, Side Note:I had to scratch my head for a minute about the continuity here. If Chronic 2001 would have actually come out in 2001, I would have been in 9th grade, well into my post-punk/ska phase. But alas, Dr. Dre’s masterpiece came out in 1999, putting me in 7th Grade with a lot to lose and a lot to gain, workin my way up the middle school food chain. See that? I came up with that rhyme just now.

Well, I’ve run out of steam here at Minutiae Music Land. As you can tell, this was a very stream-of-conscious post, but I plan on revisiting the topic of Pop radio in the 1990s because I think it was pretty integral to my growth as a humanitarian/man of the people/songwriter/regular dude just trying to bide his time.

And by the way, in all seriousness: Dawes’ North Hills is on constant playback here at the Great Pagoda of Fun(n). And also Cory Chisel & the Wandering Sons’ Death Won’t Send a Letter. Both are very nice albums that make me hopeful for the future. And I say this, because you, Constant Reader, are here to seek out my guiding light (read: my opinion on contemporary music).
